After High school Joost took an audition for the school of Drama. He was rejected. But because he loved acting, and all of the things connected with it, so much, he decided that if he can't play himself, he will study to become a drama-teacher. He studied from 1986 and graduated in 1990.
In the meanwhile he also did auditions and played in a lot of small video-productions en theatre-plays. And he worked his butt off to earn money for acting-lesson. It was a busy four years. Eventually it payed off...

At the end of his study he was hired to play with one of the best and well-known theatre companies in Holland: Toneelgroep Amsterdam. With them he played Voorjaarsontwaken (writer: Frank Wedekind). Because of this play the media and casting-agents spotted him. He got good reviews and a manager (Harry Klooster) After this 'discovery' for two years he played the very first soap-bad-guy: Rien Hoogendoorn in the very first Dutch daily soap Goede tijden slechte tijden (based on The Restless Years. After two succesfull years it was enough and he played challenging roles in different Dutch series such as: 12 steden 13 ongelukken, De club, Vrouwenvleugel (which was rewarded with a viewers-prize: Televizierring). Besides that he played in a Belgium movie and in an English television-movie.

But because he was always interested in comedy he played for example in: Oppassen, Het zonnetje in huis, Mijn dochter en ik (based on Me and my Girl), Kees & Co (based on 2 point 4 Children), and of course: SamSam (based on Man about the House / Three's Company) in which he played Lex Pijnakker for six seasons (and it's still going on). Besides that he was asked to do a 'pilot' for a new German comedy, played the manager of André van Duin (very famous Dutch comedian) in his new show: André's Comedy Club and even played in Coronation Street! Of which producer Wayne Henry in an interview said: "An amazing actor" and "He's fabulous."
Always looking for challenges Joost decided to do other thing besides acting. Now he's hosting a show on SBS6 about work called: Start op zes (repeated every day) and is working on new shows.

Because of his own experience with making his acting dream come true in spite of all the rejection from the 'established' schools, he decided to reach out and give a hand to all the people who want to make their 'acting-dream' come true. He started his own acting-course company: RJB STUDIO, with which he also makes his own AV-productions.
