Catherine Cusack was born in London in 1969. She came from an Irish acting family. Her father was the late actor Cyril Cusack and his actress wife Mary. Catherine also has three actress sisters; former Casualty actress Sinead, former Heartbeat actress Niamh and actress Sorcha.

Catherine was raised in London and excelled at school. After taking her O-levels, she was accepted to study at the Royal Holloway and New Bradford College but was offered a job as stage manager at the Tricycle Theatre in London. She made her professional debut in Brendan Behan's play The Hostage before making her television debut in the BBC series Sophia and Constance.

She has worked extensively on stage in productions including Mill On The Floss, Moonlight, The Glass Menagerie, Brighton Rock, The Seagull, Bold Girls, You Never Can Tell, Poor Beast In The Rain, Agnes Of God, Veronica's Room and Nothing Sacred. On television she played Vera in The Open Window and Blue Kang in Dr Who. In 1992 she joined Coronation Street as 'nanny from hell' Carmel Finnan, a role she played for two years. Catherine then played Dawn in The Bill, Hilary Scott in The Chief and Catherine in Cadfael along with the role of Una in the film The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne. She has also worked extensively on radio and toured Dublin in Les Liaisons Dangerous. She lives in London and is single.
