Peter trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, and spent three years with both the Old Vic Company and the RSC. he has also worked with the Chichester Festival Company, Theatre Workshop and the Belt and Braces Company.

TV credits include: The Outsider, How We Used To Live, In Two Minds, Edward and Mrs Simpson, The Victoria Wood Show, First Amongst Equals, Knock Back, Lytton's Diary, and is now best known as Chief Supt Brownlow in The Bill.

He had also appeared in the films An American Werewolf in London, Agatha and Remembrance
