Geoff started acting whilst at Newcastle University, and then went into rep at Stoke-on-Trent. His first big break was playing the voice of Paul McCartney in the film Yellow Submarine, but by that time he had already appeared in The Likely Lads and Z Cars. Although he became nationally famous as Eddie Yeats, he is now as equally well known as Onslow in Keeping Up Appearances.

His other TV credits include Curry and Chips, Hogg's Back, The Mind of Mr J G Reeder, Shadows of Fear, the Play for Today The Pigeon Fancier, An Arrow for Little Audrey, Dad's Army, No Honestly, Don't Drink The Water, Mr Big, The Bright Side, Dr Who, The Flying Lady, The Man From The Pru, Making Out, Needle, Coasting, You Rang M'Lord?, I Lovett, The Tempest, Good Friday, Spender, Boon ,The Upper Hand. and currently The Royle Family (Granada for BBC2 & 1, 1998-2000) as Twiggy and Heartbeat (YTV, 2001) as Vernon Scripps.

In films, he has apeared in The Virgin Soldiers, Carry On at Your Convenience, Adolf Hitler - my Part in His Downfall, The Bofors Gun, Til Death Us Do Part, The Man Who Had Power Over Women, Revenge.
