Played: Jim McDonald (27 October 1989 - 2 December 2000)After leaving Campbell College, Belfast, Charles had originally intended to join the Merchant Navy, but a teacher at the college persuaded him to train at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.He has worked with many theatre companies: The National Theatre (Murderers); The RSC (Henry VIII, Romeo and Juliet, The Comedy of Errors and The Shepherd's Tale); English Shakespeare Company (Henry IV parts I and II, Henry V) and Hull Truck (Diary of a Hunger Striker).He also has many films and TV apperances to his credit: Assendancy, SS, I Cannot Answer That Question and Wilt on film, and Harry's Game, Four Days in May, Joyce in June, The Firm, Crown Court, The Monocled Mutineer, Upline, Bread and Valentine Falls on television.After separating from his wife, Charles now lives with Granada make-up artist Lesley Bond.
