After leaving school, Caroline attended the Contact Youth Theatre in Manchester. On television she has appeared in The Practice, The Bill, Brick Is Beautiful, Valentine Park, Poirot, Celebration and Stuck On You. On stage she appeared in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, All My Sons, A View From A Bridge, A Taste of Honey and A Midsummer Nights Dream.

Caroline has worked on several films including Melanie in the 1987 film The Magic Toyshop, Constance in the 1988 film Without A Clue, Lillie in the 1988 film The Fruit Machine and Sonya in the 1990 film The Final Warning.

She appeared on television as Maggie Troon in Hot Metal and then became a household name as Julie Jefferson in the Carla Lane comedy Bread. In 1992 she joined Coronation Street as Terry Duckworth's pregnant girlfriend Lisa Horton who married a subsequently dated bookie Des Barnes before her death in 1993.

Caroline returned to the theatre as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Kitty in Charley's Aunt and Cathy in Wuthering Heights. She also returned to the television screens in the comedy series Barbara alongside actress Gwen Taylor.
