After living in the South-West as a successful Marine Insurance Agent, he decided to move back north, and whilst staying at the Midland Hotel and looking at propertyin Tarporley, called on "Cousin Anne" - whom he hadn't seen in over after 40 years.
After finding that he had borrowed money off many of the Rovers regulars, Annie smelt a rat, and found it was all an elaborate deception. He was a simple ledger clerk whose life never amounted to much, and fell back on con tricks. He had even stolen binoculars from his Cousin Florence the year before.
Annie summarily kicked him out - but not before ensuring all
his debts were paid, thus ensuring Annie's and the Beaumonts of
Clitheroe's good names.
