Mrs Bell was moving down to Weatherfield as her husband was taking
a job with Thompson Engineering after the steelworks in Consett
were closed down. The Bells were very interested in buying No13
when Hilda Ogden put it on the
market, making an offer of £7,500 and eventually raising
it to £8,000. But when Hilda couldn't get a mortgage without
Eddie Yeats and she decided she
didn't want the social stigma of living in a council house, she
took No13 off the market, much to the Bell's annoyance.
