Bobbie stood outside Baldwin's Factory during the investigation of Ernie Bishop's murder. Later, he came to the Rovers to investigate the theft of Annie Walker's Rover, and caught most of the pub drinking after hours.

By 1982 he had been promoted from Constable to Detective Sergeant an was investigating muggings in the area - including Betty Turpin. following a tip off from Deirdre Barlow, despite her husband's reservations, he arrested Raymond Attwood for the muggings.
