Diggory arrived on the street first in the spring of 2005 winning the Presidency of the Weatherfield Traders Association. Soon we saw the renovation of the empty DIY shop on Victoria street and to Roy's particular dismay, a bakery opened up under the strict rule of Diggory Compton. He started off on the wrong foot almost immediately by nicking Sarah from the corner shop but his imperious ways as a boss had both Sarah and later Sally running from the shop. He tries to be a lothario but sadly fails at it. Could Fred's loser-in-love throne be overtaken? He's done plenty to put Fred's back up as well.

His first shock was when Keith Appleyard confirmed his baker's store had rodent's - rats and mice - dwelling in it, out of sight.

He secondly annoyed Dev Alahan, when he took in Sarah-Louise Platt, who worked at Dev's corner shop, D & S Alahan's. However, on bank holiday Monday, 30 May 2005, Diggory lost Sarah to Dev again, because Sarah found him, in her words, 'creepy'. On the same day, he was annoyed when Schmeichel the dog was found eating his stock. Chesney Brown was warned that he didn't want to see Schmeichel (who was knocked down minutes later) in his store ever again.

In summer 2005, he knocked out Fred when they decided to see who was the better of the two. Shortly after, his daughter Molly joined him in the shop though she preferred working for Kirk at the kennels, much to Diggory's consternation. Another of Diggory's staff, Liz McDonald, is finding Diggory hard to keep at arms' length.
