! Eddie met 'Herbie' whilst insulating Betty
Turpin's loft. He invited Herbie in and gave him a cup of
tea - and Herbie stole a gold carriage clock presented to Cyril
Turpin on his retirement.
Against her better nature, Betty didn't go to the police, and
even though Eddie had great difficulty tracking down Herbie and
couldn't persuade him to confess, Betty didn't press charges.
