Mrs Hargreaves
Played by: Judith
Davies
Appeared: Spring 1989
In the spring of 1989 Alec Gilroy had to pay an £8000 tax bill. To make
some money he went on a tour in the Midle East with some of his artistees. When
he was away, Bet was out almost every evening with
Paul Rigby. Alec came back earlier than expected and caught them when Paul tried
to kiss Bet (there was nothing going on).
They started to fight and Alec wanted a divorce - so Bet stopped
cooking and cleaning. The quarrel went on for weeks. After a few
days Alec, in despair cause he had no clean shirts, phoned an
agency for a housekeeper. The agency sent Mrs Hargreaves who only
lasted one afternoon, until Bet scared her off. Alec followed
Mrs Hargreaves through the pub begging her to stay, he even offered
her money if she only would stay, but she wouldn't. The next day
Alec phoned the agency and asked for her to come back, but they
slammed the phone in his ear.
