In December 1998, Roy Cropper's horizons broadened, and he decided to relocate after a bike shop offered £65,000 to buy the old Roy's Rolls.

Roy took the offer, despite Gail Platt's objections. Gail was in some financial difficulty at the time and decided to sell her share in the cafe, which was quickly snapped up by Roy's girlfriend, Hayley. Hayley then became Roy's sleeping partner in the business, and Gail continued to work at the cafe as an employee.

Steve McDonald was employed by Roy to build the new bistro-style Roy's Rolls on Victoria Street; naturally however there were some teething troubles during the building work. The new cafe did, however finally open in February 1999 and Roy and Hayley moved into the upstairs flat.

April 1999: Roy and Hayley are "married" in the cafe in a blessing ceremony.

2005: Current staff include Vera Duckworth, Frankie Baldwin, Leanne Battersby.

2009: Current staff include Anna Windass, Ken Barlow, Hayley Patterson.

2017: Hayley died several years ago. Roy continues to run the cafe with Anna Windass, sometimes with Mary Taylor and Alex (Cathy Matthews' nephew)
