Mavis's papergirl Jenny is taken to a children's home after her mother is killed. Bet has finished with Frank and Jack wonders if she'll need some help with the Rovers.

Bet offers Jack his old job back after Terry and Curly refuse to help. Jenny runs away from the children's hospital but Don, her social worker, takes her back again. Deirdre tries to persuade Mike to stop seeing Susan.

Thursday (2586, Monday 13 January 1986)
Ken is still concerned about Susan and gets even more upset when he learns that Deirdre has been to see Mike. Terry and Curly try but fail to get a drink out of Jack after getting him his job back at the Rovers.

Friday (2587, Wednesday 15 January 1986)
Jenny the papergirl goes to her mother's funeral with Don Worthington. Deirdre has a chat with Susan over her feelings for Mike and is surprised with what she has to say and Terry and Curly are still at loggerheads with Jack. Ken gives Susan an ultimatum

Cunning Ken tries to make Mike feel his age by throwing a party for Susan and Peter's 21st. At the height of the celebration, Mike secretly reveals to Susan that he's bought her a car as a present. Terry and Kevin are surprised when Curly 'unveils' his substitute date, Tina Wagstaffe.

Wednesday (2610, Monday 7 April 1986)
Mike, now the 21st is over, urges Susan to fix a wedding date. Susan approaches Ken and he tells her that he's spent so much on her birthday party that the wedding will have to wait! Gloria and Alan are beginning to like the idea of being neighbours.

Thursday (2611, Wednesday 9 April 1986)
Mike susses that Ken is prevaricating over the wedding plans because the 21st set him back financially. Mike confronts Ken, offering to fund the wedding himself. A row ensues and Susan, hurt for her Dad, refuses to listen to Mike's explanations. Much to Curly's discomfort Sally continues two timing Kevin with Terry.

Friday (2612, Monday 14 April 1986)
There is concern in the Rovers for Gloria whose boyfriend has been unexpectedly released from prison and is in the flat. Ken is still angry that Mike Baldwin has offered to pay for the wedding - Susan is on Ken's side.

Roy Turner, local shopfitter arrives to turn the Roberts' front room into a hairdressing salon. Alf is worried about the estimate, and thinks the cost will escalate. Mike tells Susan that he thinks they should call the wedding off as the whole affair is destroying her relationship with her father.

Wednesday (2615, Wednesday 23 April 1986)
Hilda's friend Ada Arrowsmith's condition has worsened to pneumonia. Susan decides that she does want to marry Mike regardless of how her father feels. They visit the Vicar and set the date for the wedding. Ada, Hilda's friend dies before she can visit her in hospital.

Thursday (2616, Monday 28 April 1986)
Hilda's inheritance from Ada Arrowsmith is delivered by Terry and Curly. It turns out to be a bureau, a table and three chairs and a cat called 'Rommel'. Mike fails to persuade Ken to change his mind about not coming to the wedding. This prompts Susan to contact her brother Peter and ask if he'll give her away.

Friday (2617, Wednesday 30 April 1986)
Jack discovers a bill of sale in Hilda's bureau and Curly's research reveals that it could be worth quite a lot of money. Peter Barlow arrives unexpectedly and clashes with Ken over his refusal to attend Susan's wedding. Hilda gets upset when 'Rommel' goes missing and Alf even more so by the effect Audrey's salon is having on his domestic life.

It is the day before Susan and Mike's wedding but the happy occasion is marred by Ken's refusal to give his daughter away. There is much excitement in the Duckworth household when Vera discover's she has won a car.

It is the day of Susan and Peter's wedding. They are just about to set off down the aisle when Ken arrives to give his daughter away. Jack and Vera Duckworth argue about the new car and Brian Tilsley is seriously thinking about a new life in Australia.

Friday (2622, Monday 19 May 1986)
Vera is presented with her prize car. Gail agrees with Brian that emigration may be the best thing for them and Kevin decides to take advantage of Hilda's absence.

Hilda tells Sally to leave but relents after meeting Sally's mother and learning the problems they have with her father. Vera still won't let Jack anywhere near her new car. Ian persuades Gail to have a trip to Blackpool with him and romance is in the air that evening.

Thursday (2626, Monday 2 June 1986)
Gail and Ian continue their affair while Gail's husband is in Edinburgh. Hilda is determined that her young lodgers don't get up to any 'funny business'.

Friday (2627, Wednesday 4 June 1986)
Gail and Ian's affair has been discovered by Gail's mother. Hilda's old-fashioned ideas drive her young lodgers to leave. Terry Duckworth's pursuit of the Rover's barmaid finally sees him in a nasty pub brawl.

The fuse box explodes in The Rovers and starts a fire in the cellar.

Bet tries to escape the fire but collapses. Kevin climbs up a ladder and smashes the window in an attempt to rescue her and she is carried to safety. Kevin is proclaimed a hero but refuses to go to hospital. The brewery tell Betty they intend to pull The Rovers down.

Friday (2632, Monday 23 June 1986)
Bet comes out of hospital and moves in with Betty. She visits the gutted pub and breaks down. She is worried about her future.

Hilda suspects that Sally and Kevin are spending their nights together and sets a trap for Sally on the stairs. Unfortunately she forgets the trap that she has devised and falls down it herself!

Wednesday (2635, Wednesday 2 July 1986)
Rita catches Gloria and Alan kissing and Kevin and Sally make the most of Hilda's sprained ankle.

Thursday (2636, Monday 7 July 1986)
Alan tries to smooth things out with Rita and tells her there is nothing between himself and Gloria, what she saw was a friendly kiss. She believes him and decides to take their relationship a step further.

Over breakfast, Jenny needles Alan about having two girlfriends. He insists he is just friends with both Rita and Gloria. When he bumps into Gloria in the hallway, he is non-committal about seeing her that evening.

At The Kabin, Mavis is talking about the flirtation between Alan and Gloria the previous night at the Graffiti Club, but Rita seems unconcerned. Mike asks Rita to tell Alan to contact him about some work he may have for him. When Jenny calls in, Rita asks her to tell Alan she needs to see him.

At No 13, Sally has agreed to cover Hilda's cleaning round while she rests her sprained ankle, but Hilda realises she is not doing it willingly. Mike visits Hilda to find out why she hasn't been around. Hilda explains about her ankle, but Mike is off before she can tell him that Sally will be covering for her. Later, Hilda tells Kevin she is having second thoughts about Sally doing her round, as her domestic skills aren't great.

Vera is busy preparing for her driving test - it's the next day. Meanwhile, Jack is annoyed with Alec when he learns the bar job he had been promised at the Graffiti Club has been given to Gloria.

Alan arrives at The Kabin to see Rita, who passes on the message that Mike might have some work for him. She's pleased when Alan invites her out for the evening. On her way to work, Gloria calls in to see Alan, but Jenny tells her he's gone out. When she doesn't see him at the Graffiti Club that night, Gloria decides to call in with fish and chips after work. He still isn't home, so she eats them with Jenny.

After their evening out, Rita invites Alan in for coffee, and he spends the night with her.

Gloria lets Rita know that she has become very close to Alan, Rita is shocked and gives Alan an ultimatum. Ivy gets drunk and gets on stage with a male stripper at the Pink Flamingo night club.

Wednesday (2640, Monday 21 July 1986)
Ivy makes Vera promise she won't tell anyone about her behaviour with the stripper. Gloria confronts Alan. She tells him she feels a fool and that she does not want to see him again.

Susan tells Mike that Rita told her she thinks Alan may be seeing another woman. Mike covers for Alan and says he doesn't know anything about it. Later, Alan tells Mike that he didn't plan to have two girlfriends on the go - it just happened. Mike warns him he will need to decide between them before long. Alan says Rita's money won't influence him.

Ivy calls at No 9 looking for some aspirin - she has a hangover, and is embarassed about her behaviour with the male stripper the previous night.

Jenny asks Gloria to put in a good word for her with Alan about her possible singing career. When Alan learns Gloria has been discussing him with Rita, he asks her not to do it again.

Jack decides to borrow Vera's car behind her back, and rings Dulcie, inviting her out for a drive. While they are embracing in the back seat, Dulcie finds a pair of men's underpants, which aren't Jack's. He wonders if Vera has had another man in the car with her, and decides to confront her with the evidence. Dulcie talks him out of it, as she doesn't want her name brought into the situation. Jack later asks Vera where she went the previous night, and doesn't believe her when she says she was at Bingo with Ivy and Shirley.

Gloria calls in at The Kabin, and breaks down in tears when Rita tells her Alan has been seeing both of them. When Alan visits Gloria later, she tells him he's a liar and a two-timer, and says she's finished with him.

Alan is trying to convince Jenny to come on holiday with himself and Rita. Jenny says she can look after herself at home, but he says they both want her to come with them. Later, she discusses the situation with Martin and decides to go.

Hilda proudly shows Kevin her invitation to the Lowthers' Ruby wedding celebration. Percy is to escort her, and Hilda decides to have a red rinse put through her hair to mark the occasion.. She remembers the night of her own 40th anniversary with Stan, when the police arrived to tell Rita that Len had been killed in a car crash.

At No 11, Alf senses something is wrong, and Audrey tells him Gail is pregnant, but isn't sure whether the father is Brian or Ian. When Audrey sees Gail, she tells her she will have to tell Brian she's pregnant, and hope everything works out. Gail collapses on the floor of the cafe, and Phyllis and Martin call Brian to take her home. As he is worried about her health, she reluctantly tells him she's expecting. Brian is thrilled about becoming a father again.

Audrey has put a colour through Hilda's hair and leaves it in for twenty minutes while she pops out to see Gail. However, it's an hour before she returns and Hilda is in a panic about her hair colour. Hilda tells Audrey to just rinse her hair and she will go home and set it herself.

Alan is happy when Rita tells him Jenny has decided to come with them. Rita then explains that she'll be sharing a room with Jenny, and Alan will be on his own. Alan gets a phone call from Bet, to check whether Gloria has turned up - no-one knows where she's gone.

Percy arrives to collect Hilda, and finds her hair has turned bright orange. A dejected Hilda says she can't possibly go to the Lowthers' looking like that. Audrey has gone out with Alf for the evening, so they can't get hold of her to fix Hilda's hair. Hilda asks Percy to ring the Lowthers and tell them she's 'undisposed'.

Bet hears from Sam that Alec has been sacked by the brewery, but when she finds out that Alec is taking her for a mug she is furious. Jenny asks Martin to help her wirte some lyrics for a school music projicet and Martin is not all that keen.

Rita hears that Jenny is keen on Martin and she's been entertaining him behind her back. Ivy advises Cheryl and Susan about the designs; she feels they would be easy to make if they're less complicated.

Sally's Uncle Tom gives her £50 as a wedding present. However, Hilda is surprised to find that Sally has a least one decent relative, that is until he begins to make advances on Hilda. Susan arranges for two children from the playground to model clothes

Monday (2683, Wednesday 17 December 1986)
Percy finds a water board man in Hilda's back yard. He thinks he's the man who stole from Emily so Percy locks him in the outside toilet. However, when the police arrive Percy finds out that he actually from the water board.

Tuesday (2684, Monday 22 December 1986)
Mike tells Susan that Mark is his son and flys off the handle and tells Sally that he can't handle her emotions as well as a child. Martin is finding it hard to enjoy dating Sally because Rita keeps breathing down his neck.

Wednesday (2685, Wednesday 24 December 1986)
Maggie apologies to Mike and he told her that he intends to keep his promise and not attempt see Mark. Maggie tells him she doesn't want Mark confused and there is no place in his life for Mike.

Thursday (2686, Monday 29 December 1986)
Sally talks Hilda into holding a party on New Years Eve, to stop Kevin going on a pub-crawl with Terry. After the contest Jenny has entered, she talks Martin into letting her drive the car. Jenny drives the car too fast and overturns it.

Friday (2687, Wednesday 31 December 1986)
As Martin lies unconscious in the hospital, Rita conforts Jenny while Jenny confesses that the accident wasn't Martin's fault but doesn't tell her that she was driving the car.
