Monday (2898, Wednesday 4 January 1989)
Ivy is upset that Don is thinking of selling the cab. She
asks Mike if Don can pay the debt back weekly, but he refuses.
Ivy decides to pay Mike out of her savings, shocking Don. She
tells him he now owes her the money. Alan is put out when the
building society wants to view No. 7 before they agree to the
loan. Alan tries to ensure Rita won't be around when the valuer
calls.
Tuesday (2899, Monday 9 January 1989)
Charlie Bracewell starts at the Rovers. Bet is surprised
at his seediness and finds out that he used to be a ventriloquist
on Alec's books. Alan manages to get Rita and Jenny out of the
house and the valuer tells Alan he could get £15,000 for
the house.
Wednesday (2900, Wednesday 11 January 1989)
Rita is curious to hear about a strange man looking around
No. 7 with Alan in her absence. She asks Alan why he wanted her
out of the way and he tells her the man was a competitor who looked
over the house to fit an alarm, as Alan wanted to suss out his
prices. Charlie takes a fancy to Betty when he learns that she
is a widow. Bet wants to warn Betty that Charlie is after her
but Alec tells her to let nature take its course.
Thursday (2901, Monday 16 January 1989)
Alan receives a cheque for £15,000 from the Building
Society and Rita is pleased he got the money for the shop. However,
in order to open an account Alan takes Len's old driving licence
as identification and opens the account in Len's name. Betty is
very pleased when Charlie springs to her defence when Jack starts
to pick on her. Aleck is given the chance to manage a 7-week tour
of the Middle East. He's elated but Bet refuses to let him go.
Friday (2902, Wednesday 18 January 1989)
Alec convinces Bet she'll be able to manage without him
and promises to take her on holiday when he returns. Megan Morgan
(aka - Tanya the Snake Dancer) arrives at the Rovers and tells
Alec that she's on the tour, he is delighted. She reminds him
of the good old days they shared, but Bet overhears and storms
out of the bar. Betty is thrilled with Charlie kisses her hand
and charms her, but when he fondles her bottom, he is surprised
to see Betty so outraged.

Monday (2903, Monday 23 January 1989)
Mavis fall in love with a dormer bungalow called 'The Willows',
but unfortunately Derek can't get away to view it because of work.
Alec can't bring himself to ask Charlie to leave and on top of
that his accountant, Bernie Greenwood, tells Alec that the Inland
Revenue are a bit unsure about his tax returns. When Sally receives
£1000 from Eddie Seddon's insurance, Sally wants to use
the money to buy a share in the garage for Kevin, but Kevin refuses.
Tuesday (2904, Wednesday 25 January 1989)
Sally decides to ask Gail about a partnership in the Garage
for Kevin. When Kevin finds out, he is furious that Sally has
talked to Gail about a partnership. He tells Sally he's sick of
Brian and he's not working at the garage. In order to make up
for her mistake Sally plans a romantic meal for Kevin. Bet's begins
to put her plan into action as she asks Charlie to make Stella
feel like a queen. Stella takes a shine to Charlie and invites
him to call on her at the White Swan. Thinking it over, Charlie
resigns and tells Alec he's going to work for Stella, pleased
that her plan worked Bet helps him pack.
Wednesday (2905, Monday 30 January 1989)
Jenny gets an offer to go to Leeds University. Mavis and
Derek go and view 'The Willows', but Derek doesn't want to commit
himself to the bungalow. Alec tells Bet the taxman doesn't think
he's been declaring all his income from the artists, but Alec
feels that he has. Ivy tries to push the Tilsley's into going
out and offers her services as a baby-sitter.
Thursday (2906, Wednesday 1 February 1989)
Carole turns up at the opening of Weatherfield Security
Systems, Alan's shop. She threatens to create a scene, calls him
a taker and introduces herself to Rita. She tells Rita that Alan
only returned to her for her money. Alan throws her out and she
slaps his face. Alec tries to fiddle the books, but the brewery
has disclosed Alec's payments on his entertainment job and the
taxman tells him that he could end up in jail for not declaring
his earnings
Friday (2907, Monday 6 February 1989)
Dawn discovers that Alan is also going by the name of Len
Fairclough. Alan finds Dawn attractive and gives her a lift home
after taking her out for a drink. Alan panics when he discovers
that the building society have been sending mail addressed to
Mr. Fairclough to No. 7. Alec considers putting everything into
Bet's name declaring himself bankrupt, but Bet talks him out of
it. Mavis discovers that Derek has offered £10,000 lower
than the asking price for the bungalow and as a result they have
lost their chance.

Monday (2908, Wednesday 8 February 1989)
Alan makes Martin work hard installing alarms and plans
to take Dawn out for lunch, but his plans change and he has to
dump his lunch date with Dawn when Jenny turns up. Dawn feels
uncomfortable with Alan and feels his life is complicated. Gail
tells Ivy that she and Brian are leading separate lives, that
their marriage is over and they don't love each other anymore.
Derek decides he no longer want to buy a house because it is too
expensive.
Tuesday (2909, Monday 13 February 1989)
Brian tells Don his marriage is finished because of his
nights out with his mates and women. Ivy begs Brian to reconsider
and work at his marriage, so Brian asks Gail for a fresh start,
but his idea of a happy ending is shattered when Gail tells him
she doesn't love him and wants a divorce. Vera decides that she
wants No. 9 stone clad.
Wednesday (2910, Wednesday 15 February 1989)
Gail wants Nicky to have a father but doesn't want Brian.
She wishes she had never married him again. Brian tells Don that
Gail wants a divorce and that he refuses to give Nicky up. Gail
tells Brian she knew when they married again that it would never
work. Brian tells her to get out if she wants to go and that he
is not letting her take Nicky away from him, that she's a rotten
mother. Later when Brian leaves a disco with a girl, she is bothered
by some youths, he tries to help her and is stabbed.
Thursday (2911, Monday 20 February 1989)
The police tell Gail that Brian has died as a result of
being stabbed. Audrey rushes to comfort her and goes with to help
her identify the body. Alf breaks the news to the Brennans and
Ivy collapses. Gail and Ivy unite in the grief and try to help
Nicky understand where Brian has gone. Alan asks Dawn out, telling
her Rita is just his landlady, but Dawn doesn't believe he is
a free agent.
Friday (2912, Wednesday 22 February 1989)
Vera loves the stone cladding on her house but is upset
that everyone else doesn't share in her excitement. Wally asks
Alec to take the tour immediately and Bet tells him to go for
the money, and that she will cope. Gail tells Don she'll bury
Brian as she sees fit and that it's nothing to do with Ivy. Ivy
feels that it was Gail who killed Brian, by driving him out of
the house. Ivy asks Gail not to deny her a Catholic burial, and
accuses Gail of killing Brian. Gail tells Ivy, Brian was out with
another woman when he was killed. After seeing a social worker
about Jason drinking, the social worker tells Sandra its against
the law for Jason to be left on his own whilst she works at the
Rovers.

Monday (2913, Monday 27 February 1989)
Gail, Nicky, Audrey, Ivy, Don, Kevin, Sally and Phyllis
bury Brian. Gail remains composed while Ivy breakdown as Brian
is buried as a Protestant. Ivy ignores Gail and refuses to maker
her peace with her. She goes home rather than the funeral tea.
Don talks Ivy into seeing Gail, but Ivy rows with Gail, but tells
her that her conscience is clear. Ivy says she'll never forgive
Gail, and that as far as she is concerned Gail is dead too. Alan
tells Dawn her respects her and fancies her. She tells him their
relationship is strictly business.
Tuesday (2914, Wednesday 1 March 1989)
Having buried Brian, Gail decides it's time to start clearing
out Brian's things. Alan invites Dawn and Martin to lunch and
decides to also invite Dawn to join him on business in Preston.
Ivy goes to confession about her anger toward Gail. She tells
the priest she hates Gail for not giving Brian a proper burial.
He takes her into the vestry and assures her Brian is safe and
advises her to make peace with Gail. She apologies to Gail for
her selfishness and they embrace. They agree to look forward and
not back.
Wednesday (2915, Monday 6 March 1989)
With Brian now gone, Tom Casely looks round the garage
with a view to buying it. He offers Gail £18,000 cash to
Gail, but Kevin is annoyed that Gail didn't offer him first refusal
on the garage. Jenny celebrates her 18th birthday and is surprised
when Mike gives her £30 to buy herself a present. Mavis
invites Emily to join the dinner party, which Percy assumes he
is also invited. Emily is annoyed that she's just making up the
numbers at the Wilton's dinner party and Percy is upset when he
discovers that he has not been invited.
Thursday (2916, Wednesday 8 March 1989)
Martin assures Rita that Dawn is not interested in Alan.
Unfortunately Rita is unconvinced and searches Alan's office.
She finds letters form the building society, but when Alan returns
to the office she doesn't let on, while over at the Rovers, Bet
is interviewing barmaids. Kevin realises he can't raise the money
to buy the garage, which causes Gail to sell to Tom. With their
dinner party in full swing, Derek ties to impress Arthur. He and
Mavis are both disappointed when Arthur has little appetite and
spends the evening talking to Emily.
Friday (2917, Monday 13 March 1989)
Jenny begins the preparations for her 18th birthday party
with Joanne at the Belstaff Hotel. Arthur takes Emily out to lunch
and has her hair done especially, but when Rita and Alan don't
show at the hotel she phones home. Rita goes to the building society
and discovers Alan would have needed the deeds to No. 7 to mortgage
it. Rita discovers that Alan has photocopied the deeds and tackles
him about his fraud, but Alan struggles to keep calm. Rita tells
Alan she's contacted the building society and he's finished. Rita
answer the phone just as jenny is calling from the Belstaff Hotel,
but Alan pushes her away, hitting her. Jenny hears Rita's screams
and gets Martin to drive her home. Alan beats Rita around the
room before smothering her face with a cushion. Jenny arrives
home to find Rita unconscious. Alan rust out of the house, but
Martin chases after him and unfortunately Alan gets away. Tom
tells Kevin that he'd like him to stay on at the garage as manager.

Monday (2918, Wednesday 15 March 1989)
Rita is rushed to hospital, while a WPC stands guard outside
No. 7. Richardson takes up the search for Alan as Rita finally
awakes in hospital. Jenny can not believe what has happened and
is shocked that Alan tried to kill Rita. The Police find Alan's
car abandoned in Openshaw. Alan phones Jenny, but she accuses
him of being a murderer. He tells her she's his only hope of escape
and begs her to help him. Emily is annoyed when Percy gossips
in the Rovers about her relationship with Arthur and Bet takes
Tina on at the Rovers.
Tuesday (2919, Monday 20 March 1989)
Richardson tells Jenny to contact him as soon as Alan contacts
her. Alan phones Jenny and asks her to meet him at Gately station
with his passport. She begs him to tell her why he did it. Emily
decides it will be all right for Arthur to be a friend. She offers
Arthur a home-cooked meal and He tells her he's pleased they can
be friends, but Emily worries that Arthur wants to be more than
just friends. Rita is distraught and wants Alan to go to prison
and Tina starts at the Rovers.
Wednesday (2920, Wednesday 22 March 1989)
Bet discovers that the till is down, but when she tells
Jack, he thinks she is accusing him of stealing and resigns. Jenny
tells Martin, Alan has been in contact with her. She asks him
to drive her to Gately to see him. Against his better judgement
Martin drives Jenny to meet Alan, but the police follows them.
Jenny gives Alan his passport and some money, but the police give
chase and catch him. He refuses to believe Jenny didn't shop him
and is carted off in a police van. Rita tells Jenny she's frightened
of Alan and is glad he's been caught, but Jenny can't shake the
feeling that her life is ruined. Emily is tired of Percy running
her life and tells him should look for somewhere else to live.
Thursday (2921, Monday 27 March 1989)
Rita returns home from the hospital and starts to clear
out all of Alan's things. Jenny worries that Rita will want her
to go, as she is Alan's daughter. Bet discovers that the till
is up and asks Jack to return to the Rovers, but he tells Bet
that he will think about it. Vera discovers Jack's eyesight is
going and he's been short-changing at the Rovers. He tells her
he's falling to pieces and getting old. Derek tells Mavis that
Arthur still sees his wife and often spends the weekend with her.
Friday (2922, Wednesday 29 March 1989)
Percy tries to please Emily, fearing that she will throw
him out. Emily however, is pleased when Arthur asks her out at
the weekend. Mavis tells Emily that Arthur is still seeing his
wife. Emily tells her she's in-titled to some happiness and throws
her out for gossiping. Jack decides to go to the optician and
is convinced he needs glasses.

Monday (2923, Monday 3 April 1989)
Kevin is forced to work on Sunday because he has to do
all the work at the garage. Tom introduces Kevin to his son Mark,
the new mechanic. Arthur calls off his date with Emily to take
Barbara out to Tatton Park where he bumps into Percy who decides
it is for the best, not to tell Emily. Shirley plans a party for
Curly to celebrate their year together. However, he is too busy
revising to notice.
Tuesday (2924, Wednesday 5 April 1989)
Curly sits his exam after spending the night on the sofa.
Shirley packs her bags and tells Curly she's going home
they're poles apart and there's no point in going on. She wants
fun in her life, but Curly begs her not to go, unfortunately it
doesn't do any good. Emily plans a cosy meal for Arthur. He tells
her that he spent the day with Babs, thinking Percy has told her.
He tells her he's getting back with Babs. Emily finds it strange
that Percy didn't mention anything.
Wednesday (2925, Monday 10 April 1989)
When Mark arrives late for work Kevin lays into him and
makes him work into his lunch hour, but the later Kevin fires
Mark for being inefficient. Curly hangs round the factory, waiting
for Shirley, but she doesn't want to talk to him and gets Mike
to see him off. Curly finally tells Shirley they have to talk,
but she just wants to get on with her life. Derek and Mavis view
a semi in Kingsley Road and she is annoyed when he puts in a low
offer on the house. Jenny gets a letter form Alan and decides
to go to Risley to visit him.
Thursday (2926, Wednesday 12 April 1989)
Tom tells Kevin he went too far sacking Mark. Kevin refuses
to take Mark back and threatens to leave himself. Kevin misses
Mark's cheek and gives him his job back. Rita is upset that jenny
is visiting Alan. She fears he'll turn her against her. Alan asks
Jenny to get Rita to play down what happened, but Jenny is disgusted
that Alan showed no concern for her. Derek plans to take up jogging
to help him through his pension medical.
Friday (2927, Monday 17 April 1989)
Curly locks himself in the flat and Audrey fears he may
be suicidal. He plays Shirley's tapes loud and Alf is annoyed
as it drives the customers off. Percy volunteers to follow Curly's
every movement to make sure he doesn't kill himself. He follows
him in the supermarket and arouses suspicion by hiding in the
aisles. Bet begins to miss Alec, but Paul Rigby invites Bet to
a night club, telling her Alec asked him to keep an eye on her.

Monday (2928, Wednesday 19 April 1989)
Mavis doesn't want to give up the Kabin but Derek tell
her he'll need her soothing touch at home. Mavis confides in Rita
that she'll be leaving the Kabin because Derek wants her at home
and Rita, obviously surprised, accused Derek of ruining Mavis'
life. Alf grows tired of Curly stuck in the flat owing him money,
so when Martin tricks Curly into letting him in the flat, he turns
on Curly telling him that he is pathetic. Betty fears that Bet
is playing with fire going out with Paul, but Bet assures her
he's just a mate.
Tuesday (2929, Monday 24 April 1989)
Rita and Mavis are being a little bit cool to each other
causing Mavis to accuse Rita of being snide and small minded about
her move. Stella tries to find out how Bet is coping. Bet tells
her Paul has been looking after her. Stella invites her out for
a girl's night. Mavis accuses Rita of being snide and small-minded
over her move. Ray Griffiths tells Derek his blood pressure and
heart rate is too high. Ray is worried his ability to cope with
stress, but Derek is moved from sales to dispatch and is furious.
He refuses to take the insult lying down. Alma moves builders
into the flat. She confides in Gail, telling her she's having
sell her house because of the divorce and is moving into the flat
over the café.
Wednesday (2930, Wednesday 26 April 1989)
Bet is annoyed after Paul tries it on with her in the back
of a taxi. He apologises and she agrees to go out with him again.
Bet tells Betty what happened and assures her that she can handle
him. Betty is still worried about her and her reputation. Nicky
gets into a bit of trouble at school for bullying, but to make
matters worse Alma is annoyed to discover that Gail has been looking
after Nicky all afternoon. Derek tries to see DP but DP doesn't
want to see him. Derek sends DP a memo saying transfer to dispatch
is unacceptable and he's having to reconsider his position.
Thursday (2931, Monday 1 May 1989)
Alec returns 3 weeks early and discovers that Bet has gone
to the cinema. Betty tries desperately to get in contact with
Bet, but to no luck. Bet and Paul return at midnight and Bet is
thrilled to see Alec, but he thinks she's been unfaithful and
throws Paul out. Gail is still upset that Nicky continues to think
Brian is still alive. She feels that he's becoming a handful.
Nicky thinks Gail is responsible for Brian's absence and attacks
her. She tells him Brian is never returning and begs him to love
her. Derek tries to contact DP at home, telling DP he'd love to
work in dispatch but DP refuses to take him back. Alf finally
gets to Curly and demands £80 in rent from him.
Friday (2932, Wednesday 3 May 1989)
Curly offers Alf £5, which is all that he has. Alf
however doesn't accept and throws Curly out. Vera takes Curly
in because of his friendship to Terry. After Nicky disappears
from the house Gail begins her search for him. Audrey makes Gail
contact the police whilst she and Ivy search the streets. Nicky
goes to the garage to see Brian, but Mark takes him home where
Gail tries to make him see that Brian won't be coming back. Alec
is adamant that Bet has been unfaithful. However to prove him
wrong Bet lays on a romantic meal for Alec. Unfortunately thinks
don't go the way she planned and Alec tells her he's convinced
she's been unfaithful and that he wants a divorce.

Monday (2933, Monday 8 May 1989)
After Mavis found out that Derek has lost his job she confronts
him saying, that she knows about his unemployment and Derek promises
her everything will be all right. Bet gets herself a solicitor,
but Alec is horrified, thinking that she'd admit to adultery and
beg forgiveness. Bet's solicitor advises her to stay on at the
Rovers, but she wants to divorce Alec on the grounds of unreasonable
behaviour and his relationship with Megan and her 12 budgies.
With growing anger Alec tells Bet she's not dependable and gives
her the sack from the 'Rovers'. Vera his making a fuss of Curly,
but Jack tells Curly that he cans stay but has to pay £10
a week.
Tuesday (2934, Wednesday 10 May 1989)
Bet refuses to move out of the Rovers, but Alec insists
she doesn't work behind the bar. Betty is shocked to hear Alec
has sacked her. Following his solicitor's advice, Alec makes the
first move to be nice to Bet, but fears she has had lunch with
another man. Although Bet had lunch with Rita, she decides not
to correct his mistake, causing Alec to call Betty in as a witness.
Alma tells Gail she can cope without her at the café is
she wants to give up work, but Gail tells Ivy she's returning
to work, that Nicky doesn't want to be tied to her apron strings.
Ivy offers her money to stay at home, but Gail refuses, saying
she's a mother but she also has her own life to lead. Mavis tires
to stall the sale of the house, by giving Mr Goodman, the solicitor,
the run around. Finally Derek agrees to pull out of the house
buying after he breaks down in the Kabin.
Wednesday (2935, Monday 15 May 1989)
Gail returns to work to find that Alma has cut down on
the quantity of food and put the prices up. Gail thinks it's ridiculous
to charge 40p for a cup of tea. Don suggests Ivy gives p her job
to look after the children but she likes work too much, but it
is Audrey who is annoyed when she finds out that Ivy offered Gail
financial help. Stella asks Alec why he's saying Bet and Paul
are having an affair. She tells him Bet's too old for Paul, but
when Alec tells her he found them together in the pub after midnight,
Stella refuses to leave before she has seen Bet.
Thursday (2936, Wednesday 17 May 1989)
Alec wants Bet to move out, but she refuses to leave her
home, which causes more problems when Alec finds out that she
refuses to wash, and iron his clothes or cook his food. Gail is
upset by Alma's attitude, wanting to get rid of the old poor customers.
Alma puts Christine and Phyllis on half time as they're over staffed
and Gail walks out when Alma keeps putting her down. Don assures
Ivy hat he doesn't want to use the dog, Harry's Luck, for gambling,
but she is adamant that the dog must go. However, Don plans to
race Harry's Luck and offers Alf half a share. When Harry Slinger
turns up to pay Don the £40 for the dog, he refuses to give
him up, telling Ivy she'll be a gold mine.
Friday (2937, Monday 22 May 1989)
Alec finds it hard coping with the staff without Bet's
management, which Bet herself finds funny watching Alec going
under. To make matters worse Alec is forced to wear a Hawaiian
shirt as it is the only one that is clean, but he decides the
best thing to do is to contact the Home Care agency for a housekeeper.
Don gets Audrey to persuade Alf to have a share in Lucky. Audrey
fancies herself as an owner's wife. Alma sorts out her divorce,
leaving Phyllis and Christine on their own in the café,
but when Percy complains about the food at the café, Alma
throws him out and closes the café as she can't cope.

Monday (2938, Wednesday 24 May 1989)
The agency refuses to supply anymore housekeepers for Alec.
Meanwhile Bet packs and leaves the Rovers, accusing Alec of moving
his tart into the pub. She tells him she's going to fight him
for every penny she can't get, but first she starts looking for
a job. When Phyllis accuses Percy of being awkward Alma fires
her for creating a fuss. Finally Alma asks Gail to return to the
café as she's not cut out to run the place and she offer
her a partnership. The Brennan's and Roberts go to the races,
but things change really quickly when Lucky loses her race.
Tuesday (2939, Monday 29 May 1989)
Megan has designs on Alec and the Rovers, but Alec urges
Megan not to be so intimate with him as Bet might cite her in
the divorce. When Betty discovers that Bet has left the Rovers
and has stayed the night at Rita's, she walks out. Bet gives Alf
£20 and tells him she's moving into the shop flat, without
giving him a chance to say no. Mavis puts Derek onto a job advertised
in the paper and Derek decides to make an appointment for the
job. Finally, Don decides to get rid of Lucky, as he hasn't got
the time to look after her.
Wednesday (2940, Wednesday 31 May 1989)
Alec asks the staff to rally round in Bet and Betty's absence.
He refuses to let Bet into the house to get her clothes. However
waiting in the wings is Jack and Vera, who long to be the landlords
of the Rovers. So in anticipation The Duckworths decide to get
No. 9 valuated, which causes Vera a lot of excitement, as she
can't wait to be landlady of the Rovers. Bet in the meantime gets
a job as a barmaid at the Flying Horse. Audrey asks Ivy to take
Lucky on with her, cutting the men out, which Ivy readily aggress
to. Jack goes to the Brewery and sees Nigel Ridley and tells him
Bet has left Alec and swears his loyalty to the brewery. Derek
is given the sales position at Chuckles Novelties, selling false
noses and jumping frogs.
Thursday (2941, Monday 5 June 1989)
Derek starts work, but is upset when no one seems to show
an interest in the novelties. Mavis is evasive to Rita over what
he's doing and becomes extremely embarrassed when Derek forces
Rita to stock his novelties at the Kabin. Audrey puts pressure
on Alf to get Bet out the flat and Nigel calls at the Rovers on
a survey. He tells Alec he knows all about his marital problems
and is surprised to see Megan flaunt herself around in front of
him. Alec fears that Bet has shopped him to the brewery and swears
vengeance. Gail is pleased when mike gives her advice over a partnership
in the café. Mike impresses Alma when he tells Gail she'd
be a fool not to buy into the café.

Megan begins to get very annoyed when Alec keeps her from
the bar. Alec goes to the Flying Horse to visit Bet, but when
Marge tell him that Bet was sacked because she was unsuitable,
Alec lays into her telling her that Bet is a lady not a trollop
like herself. Alec tells Bet he believes that she was not unfaithful.
After which they are reconciled and she tells him he can stay
the night with her.

Bet refuses to return to the Rovers until Megan has left.
Alec tells Megan she must leave and she accuses him of using her,
but she agrees to take financial compensation and leaves. Jack
and Vera however, are flabbergasted to discover Bet is back. Bet
returns to the Rovers, she doesn't like the way she and Alec are
being polite to each other, but Alec has a peace offering in the
form of a delayed honeymoon. Deirdre tells Ken how stupid her
committees are getting and they were thinking of inviting Batman
and Prince Charles to open an abattoir but rejected them both.
Gail returns to working in the café.
Friday (2944, Wednesday 14 June 1989)
Jack discovers the Gilroy's are going on holiday at short
notice. He realises he'll be in charge and plans to show the brewery
how well he can run a pub. Meanwhile, Bet is buying new clothes
for the holiday. As the Gilroy's leave for Spain, Jack is shocked
to discover that Betty has returned to take charge. Phyllis is
shocked when Gail tells her she can't return to the café,
because they can't afford to pay her. Phyllis breaks down, feeling
useless. Alma discovers the Roberts are Mike's friends and befriends
them. Ken buys a trilby in order to question Deirdre about Council
business. He knows about he closure of a day nursery and she tells
him he can't print anything about he nursery as she's involved
on the committee.

Curly decides to try his luck and asks Tina out but she
rejects him. Tina urges Curly to go the banger racing so that
she can watch Mark. Alma lays on a romantic meal, Mike toasts
her with champagne and they both feed each other oysters. However,
the evening is ruined when Alma gets sick, so Mike decides it
may be best to leave and get an early night. Deirdre decides to
stick it out instead of resigning. She attends a Planning Committee
meeting, but Councillor Rafferty asks that Deirdre leave the meeting,
calling her a mole. The committee backs him so Deirdre leaves,
under protest. Committee secretary, Wendy Crozier, informs Ken
that Deirdre left the meeting and gives him a copy of the minutes.
Tuesday (2946, Wednesday 21 June 1989)
Deirdre discovers someone from the Planning Committee is
the mole when Ken knows about her leaving the meeting. Deirdre
is then shunned by all her Council friends and breaks down and
Ken promises to vindicate her. Alma feels she can't face Mike,
but is thrilled when he taker her out. She tries to encourage
him to talk about her feelings. Mark tells Tina she's too old
from him and then flirts with martin and is hurt when he tells
her she's too brassy. Sally decides to tell Kevin she intends
to have a time trial in the banger.
Wednesday (2947, Monday 26 June 1989)

she's serious about going out with him. Tina then accuses Jack

with Alma. She tells him she's interested in buying a flat in
Weatherfield Quay and asks for his help. Ken tells Deirdre he
wishes the could start again. When she promises not to tell anyone,
Ken tells her his mole is Wendy Crozier.
Thursday (2953, Monday 17 July 1989)
Jack tells Vera he's taking the night off to join a snooker
competition at the Legion and she lets him borrow the Nova. Jack
then takes Tina to an expensive restaurant where she gets him
to buy a bottle of champagne. Jack tries to seduce Tina in the
car but she refuses to let him touch her, she thanks him for the
meal and leaves. Vera discovers from Curly that Jack wasn't at
the Legion, just as the Jack discovers that the Nova has run out
of petrol and he doesn't have any money left to fill it up. Rafferty
tells Deirdre he's suspected of being the mole. He tells her he's
not carrying the can for Ken. She realises he might have to resign.
Deirdre then refuses to go holiday with Ken when he refuses to
clear Rafferty's name.
Friday (2954, Wednesday 19 July 1989)
Jack convinces Vera that Curly was mistaken about not seeing
him. Martin then tells Vera about Jack running out of petrol miles
away from the Legion, which convinces her that Jack is a liar
and must have another woman. Tina is starting to get upset as
Jack starts leering at her. Ken refuses to tell Reynolds that
Wendy is the mole as she'll be sacked. Deirdre tells Ken she won't
tell Reynolds about Wendy if he promises never to see her again.
Ken refuses, saying the Recorder feeds the family and has to be
kept going. Deirdre then tells Reynolds that Rafferty is not the
mole but that she doesn't know who is. She tells Wendy to stay
away from Ken or his next headline will be her dismissal from
the Town Hall. While Ken is having a meeting with Maurice Jones
on a property development project, Rafterty bursts in to the meeting
and goes for Ken.

Tina considers moving to another pub as jack continues
to pester her. Jack tells her he doesn't care if Vera finds out
about them, while Vera breaks down over Jack's other woman. Mike
takes Dawn for lunch and she asks him to help her talk to Rita
and make peace with her. Dawn tells Rita she feels partly responsible
about what happened to her and Rita tells her she bears no grudge.
Mike tells Dawn he wants to buy one of the Dockland flats. Unfortunately
Alma sees them together and is very upset and finally the Barlow's
go on holiday.
Tuesday (2956, Wednesday 26 July 1989)
Mickey Lee calls on Don and tells him his dog sired the
pups and he wants two of them. Ivy refuses to let Mickey take
the pups. Don sells Lucky and the pups to Mickey for £800.
He gives the money to Ivy as the last of the money he owes her
for bailing him out and she is thrilled. Tina threatens to hit
Jack if he continues to pester her. When Vera tells Jack no woman
would be interested in him he tells her he took Tina out. Vera
tackles Tina about her going out with Jack. Tina tell her it was
for a joke, causing Vera to go wild. She throws a pint at Tine,
who ducks, but Alec isn't so lucky. Mike admits to Alma that he
took Dawn out. Alma tells him she love him but he tells her he's
not after love. Alma breaks down over being rejected by Mike.
Mike assures Dawn he's free and single so she agrees to go out
with him.
Wednesday (2957, Monday 31 July 1989)
Kevin feels that Sally is taking her test too soon, but
Mark gets roped into giving Sally last minute lessons in the car.
Mark tells Sally that his car needs a new cylinder head so she
won't be able to use it for her test. Vera attacks jack's trousers
with scissors, slicing them up. The Brennan's and Tilsley's have
a picnic, but Nicky proves to be a handful. Nicky misses his Dad
and is rude to Don. Ivy feels it's Gail's fault that Nicky is
playing up.
Thursday (2958, Wednesday 2 August 1989)
Sally is upset as Mark and Kevin are too busy to work on
the car. Audrey takes Alf's Volvo so Sally can use it for her
test. She doesn't tell Alf who thinks the car has been stolen.
Alf reports the theft to the police. The police stop Sally during
her driving test and ask her about the car. Sally then passes
her test when Audrey explains the car is hers and then insists
that she can now drive the banger. Dawn finds out hat Maurice
owns pockets of land all over Weatherfield, which interests Mike
considerably. Mike tells Maurice he knows that he owns a lot of
land and Maurice tells Mike he want to build houses on the factory
site. Mike is stunned to discover Maurice owns the land behind
the factory.
Friday (2959, Monday 7 August 1989)
Vera worries that Jack is going to be sacked. He returns
to the Rovers wearing Don's trousers, which don't fit him. Nicky
causes trouble at the café by kicking the fruit machine.
Gail is impressed when martin takes Nicky of for the day to play
golf and Nicky himself, has a great time. Maurice shows Mike a
map of his plans and Mike agrees with Maurice about bringing in
a valuer to assess a price. Dawn finds out that Maurice has bought
the Community Centre and Mike tells him this means the price will
have to go up.

Ivy is suspicious when Mike puts a ban on overtime at the
factory, but when a valuer looks at the factory, Mike tells the
workers he is an insurance agent. Emily takes a phone call from
a man confirming that Mike wants to cancel buying the new sewing
machines. She then interrupts Mike and Dawn's romantic evening,
accusing Mike of running the factory down with a view to selling
it. He asks her to keep the news from the girls, but she refuses
to lie for him. Gail worries that Nicky is bothering Martin too
much, but Martin tells her he doesn't mind and invites him to
join them at the banger racing. Sally is annoyed when Kevin and
Mark refuse to let her near the banger at the race track. Kevin
however, comes 5th in the race and Sally is furious to discover
there was a ladies race which Kevin hadn't told her about. In
her revenge, Sally drives the trailer home leaving Kevin and Mark
stranded.
Tuesday (2961, Monday 14 August 1989)
Mike asks Emily not to tell the workforce about the offer
on the factory, but decides to sell the factory if his accountant
advises it. Emily is upset when the workers accuse her of keeping
them in the dark over Mike's plans and she tells Deirdre about
the factory sale. Deirdre makes Ken promise not to print any more
council exposes and tells Ken about Mike's plans to sell the factory.
Don tackles Mike about his mysterious plans and Ivy is upset when
they start to argue. Alma plans another date with Terry and asks
Audrey to make up the foursome again. Curly fails to get a job
and The Barlows return from Holiday.
Wednesday (2962, Wednesday 16 August 1989)
Audrey gets Alf to go to a function so she can go out with
Alma and the men. While Alma and Terry enjoy their date, Audrey
worries about getting home before Alf. Emily pushes Mike to speak
to the worker. He tells them their jobs are safe as he and Maurice
haggle over the price of the factory. Deirdre is cool towards
Wendy when she bumps into her at the Town Hall, but Deirdre guesses
that Ken has been talking to Wendy again when he knows all about
Maurice's plans. Gail has trouble settling Nicky down for the
night and is forced to ask Martin to help. Gail is worn out after
coping with Nicky and Martin comforts her with a kiss, which becomes
passionate.
Thursday (2963, Monday 21 August 1989)
Deirdre is summoned to the Town Hall where Reynolds accuses
her of telling Ken about Maurice's plans. Deirdre fights back
telling him that Wendy is the mole much to Ken's surprise. Audrey
decides its too dangerous seeing Dave Sparks and tells Alma she's
going on no more dates. Jenny gets her 'A' level results, failing
biology, which causes her to rethink her future and Martin takes
Nicky swimming, even though he and Gail are embarrassed by their
passionate kiss.
Friday (2964, Wednesday 23 August 1989)
Audrey is horrified when Dave turns up at the shop selling
diet food. He doesn't let on to Alf that he knows Audrey which
comes as a huge relief to her. Rita throws a party to celebrate
jenny's exam results, but Martin leaves the party early to call
on Gail. He tells her he wants a relationship with her, but Gail
tells him that it won't be that easy. Ken accuses Deirdre of putting
Wendy's job on the line. However, he tells Wendy that he will
stand by her whatever happens.

Sally is determined to drive the banger and persuades Mark
to take her on some practice runs in the car. Gail is dismayed
when Alma gets Martin to stand in at the café whilst she
goes shopping. Martin however, enjoys working with Gail after
hours and turns up at the house kisses her and tells her that
he wants her. Mike and Maurice complete the sale and Mike tells
Emily he no longer owns the factory. Mike then tells the workers
he has sold the factory. Vera is pleased that they will have a
new boss, but Ivy is unhappy about the sale and fears she will
lose her job.
Tuesday (2966, Wednesday 30 August 1989)
Gail and Martin spend the night together and in the morning
he leaves early causing Gail to feel as though she were a one
night stand. The factory girls find the gates are locked and Maurice
tells them the factory is closed and that he is knocking it down.
Ivy tries to contact Mike, but Mike has moved out of his flat
and into No. 6 Quebec House, Weatherfield Docks. He tells Ivy
and Vera that he sold the factory and that now the blame and responsibility
lies with Maurice. Kevin watches Sally practising with Mark on
the race trace. She gets fed up waiting for Mark when he chats
a girl up and drives the car on her own, it goes out of control
and crashes.
Wednesday (2967, Monday 4 September 1989)
Kevin blames Mark for Sally' accident as she recovers in
hospital with a broken ankle. Sally however insists that the car
was faulty before the crash. Ken accuses Deirdre of spending too
much time at the Town Hall and letting Tracy down. He then goes
on to inform her that Wendy has been sacked for gross misconduct.
Ken apologies to Wendy for Deirdre's behaviour and offers her
a job at the Recorder. Gail fears that Martin thinks upon her
as a conquest, but Martin convinces Gail that he's serious about
her and they decide to keep their relationship a secret. Martin
then stands Jenny up to take Nicky to the park.
Thursday (2968, Wednesday 6 September 1989)
Jenny is jealous that Martin is spending all his time with
Gail. Mark discovers that the differential on the banger had seized
and Sally returns home on crutches. Deirdre is annoyed to find
Wendy at the Recorder office and is furious that Ken is having
anything to do with Wendy.
Friday (2969, Monday 11 September 1989)
Sally returns to the shop, but Elsie Seddon calls and is
annoyed to see her working. Ken tries to explain to Deirdre why
he has offered Wendy a job. Deirdre doesn't want to hear it, but
Tracy tells her she is being unreasonable. Martin takes Gail for
a romantic day in the country and Nicky tells Ivy that Martin
spends the nights with Gail.

someone is moving in on his territory and tackles his competitor,
but Bernie Bagshaw seems unperturbed about trespassing. Vera and
Ivy go after the same job at Brown's textiles.
Tuesday (2971, Monday 18 September 1989)
Derek becomes obsessed with his rival when he finds Bernie
trying to sell his wares in the Kabin and fights him off. Gail
is upset when Martin tells her Don has guessed their secret, but
Gail doesn't care what people think about her. Audrey is stunned
when Ivy tells her about Gail and Martin's affair. However, Audrey
is happy is Gail is happy, but Ivy fears she is the only one to
oppose Gail's affair. Emily gets the keys to the factory off Percy
to get her personal effects out of her office, while Vera and
Josie enter the factory and take material and the clocking in
clock as a momento. Ivy and Vera demand compensation from Mike,
but he tells them its nothing to do with him.
Wednesday (2972, Wednesday 20 September 1989)
The bulldozers move in and start to demolish the factory
and the Community Centre. Gail surprises Audrey and Ivy by cornering
them and telling them her affair with Martin is nothing to do
with either of them. Gail accuses ivy of blaming her for Brian's
death and Ivy thinks her carrying on will have a bad effect on
the children. After Gail's outburst Ivy belts Martin round the
head in the Rovers. Kevin and Sally don't like Elsie living with
them as she keeps hinting about babies and The police tell Rita
that Alan's trial is coming up. Jenny makes arrangements to go
to Manchester Poly rather than Brighton as she feels Rita needs
her.
Thursday (2973, Monday 25 September 1989)
Vera urges Ken to do a story on Mike selling his workers,
in addition to joining the factory girls for a trip down to the
Department of Employment looking for compensation. They are told
Maurice is responsible for their redundancy payments. Ken interviews
Mike over the factory sell off and Mike is happy to pose for a
photo, sucking a cigar. Gail is furious to hear that Ivy hit Martin
and she tells Ivy to keep away from her and the children.
Friday (2974, Wednesday 27 September 1989)
Emily goes on to the building site and when she is told
that Jones is not there she says she'll wait. When he finally
arrives he tries to fob her off, but he does finally talk to her
and refuses to take responsibility for redundancy money and the
girls are disappointed and they come to a decision to implement
stage two. Jenny is still worried about her dad and both Audrey
then Alf drop round to warn her that the trial will not be plain
sailing. Audrey takes Ivy's side against Gail and Martin but Gail
says their relationship will go on.

Gail is cross with Martin for answering her phone but they

but the Gazette does. Martin and Gail go public and meet in the
Rovers and bump into Ivy. She doesn't take Vera's comments well.
The factory girls take it in turns to guard the building site
and Martin seems to have brought over his slippers.
Tuesday (2976, Wednesday 4 October 1989)
The Gazette jumps on board and backs the girls in their
fight with the factory and Jones accuses Deirdre of being a left
wing busy body. Maurice threatens to break the Recorder if Ken
doesn't get Deirdre off his back. Ken refuses and advises Deirdre
to try the D of E. Gail fears that Martin is becoming over-enthusiastic
about their affair. However, she decides to move Martin in Sarah
Louise's room for appearances sake just when Nicky comes down
with the mumps.
Wednesday (2977, Monday 9 October 1989)
Ken celebrates his 50th birthday, but Wendy feels sorry
for Ken as Deirdre forgets his birthday. She lays on a meal for
him. Deirdre on the other hand makes Ken a surprise birthday meal
but he doesn't return. Ken and Wendy get to know each other better
and when he kisses her she doesn't stop him, but when Ken returns
home to find the table laid for his surprise party, however, Deirdre
has gone to bed. Martin tries to persuade Gail to attend the Webster's
party but she fears she'll feel too old, but in the end she is
persuaded to go. Martin gets drunk at the party and declares his
love for Gail loudly in the Street, in front of Ivy. The factory
girls celebrate because Maurice offers to pay the redundancies.
Thursday (2978, Wednesday 11 October 1989)
Ken tells Deirdre that he had to work late and she accepts
his apology. Wendy suggests that she leaves the Recorder, but
Ken tells her there's no need because he wants to be with her
and she readily aggrees. In the end Wendy decides to leave the
Recorder and when Ken breaks the news to Deirdre, she is delighted.
Martin comes down with the mumps and Rita fears the trial.
Friday (2979, Monday 16 October 1989)
Gail can't work as she has to look after Nicky and Martin.
Rita is horrified that Martin won't be able to give evidence against
Alan because of his mumps. He is too sick to go home and is stuck
at Gail's. Ivy worries about Nicky's health and calls round as
she things Martin and Gail have split. She is furious to find
Martin at the house. Rita finally breaks down at the thought of
sending Jenny's Dad to prison, while Ken and Wendy make love in
the afternoon.

Crichton worries that Rita will crumble on the stand, but

Alan pleads guilty to the charges of deception and actual bodily
harm. Rita and Jenny are relieved they won't have to give evidence
as Alan has pleaded guilty. Jenny however, is upset when Alan
gets 2 years, but Rita is furious it won't be longer. She is stunned
to learn that he's served enough of his time and has been released
to walk free from the court. Gail goes back to the café
as Ivy looks after the children. She refuses to look after Martin,
which makes it hard for Martin to have Ivy in the house. Mike
shows Audrey round his new flat. She loves it and arranges to
bring Alf to dinner.
Wednesday (2981, Friday 20
October 1989)
Rita fears that Alan will come after her and locks herself
in the house, but when Rita opens the door, thinking it is someone
else, she is surprised to see Alan. Ivy is forced to involve Martin
in her nursing when Nicky demands to play with him. Martin reassures
Ivy that he won't try to step into Brian's shoes. She is impressed
by the way he handles Nicky. Deirdre surprises Ken with a picnic
at the Recorder office but he's arranged to see Wendy and has
to get rid of her. The Roberts are entertained by Mike and Dawn.
Audrey wants to buy one of the dockland flats but Alf isn't interested.
Thursday (2982, Monday 23 October 1989)
Rita is paralysed with shock at seeing Alan. He enters
the house despite her telling him to go away. Alan tells Rita
he wants to see Jenny, but she is out. Rita is in tears as his
presence threatens her. Alan has a row with Rita and calls her
vindictive. Bet arrives to see Rita and Alan leaves via the back
door. Rita breaks down and is comforted by Bet. Alan tells Jenny
he wants to stay around her and needs her love. Jenny then tells
Rita that she's being over dramatic about Alan's visit. Audrey
tells Dawn she'll persuade Alf to buy a flat, but Alf refuses
to buy a dockland flat. Alf is horrified to discover Audrey knows
how much money he has in the building society. Curly lands the
job of assistant manager (trainee) at Bettabuy Supermarket.
Friday (2983, Wednesday 25 October 1989)
Mavis is upset when Alan calls at the Kabin and has to
pretend Derek is upstairs. Alan asks Mike to go into business
with him, putting money up for a security business. Mike tells
him he's not interested. Alan gets nasty when he discovers Dawn
is Mike's girlfriend. Jenny is then upset to hear Mike talking
to Rita about Alan's nastiness and tells them they have got Alan
all wrong. Curly starts work at Bettabuy and is taught the ropes
by Reg Holdsworth, while Kimberley Taylor falls for Curly. However,
Curly is dismayed when Jack asks him to get Vera a job at the
supermarket. Alf is shocked when Audrey calls in an estate agent
to have the house valued. It is valued at £25,000, Alf is
confident that the asking price won't be offered and No. 11 goes
up for sale.

Monday (2984, Friday 27 October 1989)
Curly enjoys his new found authority. He is shocked when
Vera sees Reg for a job and uses Curly as a reference. Reg gives
Vera the job and Curly fears she'll be no good and he'll be responsible.
Alan moves into a bedsit at 31 Redford Street and tries to interest
Maurice in backing an alarm business. However, Maurice is not
interested. Dawn tells Audrey the docklands are starting a new
phase. Audrey is keen to buy one of the flats. She shows the McDonalds
round the house and Alf is horrified when they agree to buy it.
Tuesday (2985, Monday 30 October 1989)
Alf has a dizzy turn at the thought of selling No. 11 and
goes to the doctor. The doctor advises Alf to go on a diet and
tells him buying a new flat will do him good as he could walk
to work. Alf accuses Dawn of pushing Audrey into buying a flat.
She flees after he gives her a mouthful. Vera starts work at Bettabuy
under Curly's management. Vera gets into trouble at work when
she breaks the store detectives cover. Curly has to get Vera to
tone down her make-up. She turns on him for siding with Renee
the store detectective against her. Alan is forced to take a labouring
job at the building site. Rita decides to hibernate at home and
is horrified to see Alan working on the building site opposite
her house.
Wednesday (2986, Wednesday 1 November 1989)
Audrey asks Dawn to hang on to the flat until she's convinced
Alf. Rita gets a letter from Alan wanting settlement for the videos.
Audrey is upset as Alf stalls over the house buying, He says he's
definitely not buying the flat. The McDonalds are annoyed when
Alf cancels the sale but Audrey tells them to take no notice.
Rita tells Alan she's not going to give him any money. Vera tells
Curly that Kimberley fancies him. Audrey tells Alf she's leaving
No. 11 with or without him and someone breaks into the Kabin at
night.
Thursday (2987, Friday 3 November 1989)
Audrey sleeps in the spare room, but Alf tells Audrey she
can have the dockland flat even though it will mean a bigger mortgage.
She tells him she'll settle for semi and they kiss and make up.
Mavis and Rita call in the police over the Kabin break-in, Rita
is puzzled as the alarm had been turned off. Rita tells the police
she's certain Alan did it and he is taken in for questioning.
Jenny can't believe that Rita set the police on Alan and Alan
maintains he didn't break into the Kabin. Alan spends the night
in the cells and Jenny accuses Rita of wanting Alan to be guilty.
Jim McDonald is pleased when Audrey tells him he can have No.
11 and Curly feels he can't ask Kimberley for a date as he's her
boss.
Friday (2988, Monday 6 November 1989)
Jenny accuses Rita of being vindictive. Alan is released
from the police station when the police find the Kabin intruder.
Jenny is thrilled and Alan tells Rita she owes him an apology
over the Kabin break-in and threatens her. Vera pushes Curly to
take Kimberley out but he isn't keen, but Curly is forced into
asking Kimberley for a date with Vera matchmaking. Eddie Ramsden
makes a play for Tina but she isn't interested, but when Eddie
bothers Tina, Kevin defends her. A scuffle ensues and Eddie is
thrown out.

Monday (2989, Wednesday 8 November 1989)
The site workers give Tina the run around. Alec asks her
to be nice to them as he doesn't want to lose their custom. Eddie
apologies to Tina. When Kevin arrives the site workers turn on
him and a fight starts. Kevin is thrown across a table and Curly
is thumped in the eye. Vera invites Kimberley to tea as a surprise
for Curly. Jack tells her about Curly's past with Shirley and
Jenny tells Rita she's being obsessed with Alan.
Tuesday (2990, Friday 10 November 1989)
Rita breaks down when she feels Mavis is patronising her
over Alan. Alan breaks into No. 7 and places the tin holding the
deeds on the table so Rita will know he's been in. Rita calls
the police in when she sees the tin on the table. She becomes
hysterical and tries to prove Alan broke into the house to scare
her. They think she's been drinking. Jenny is furious that Rita
brought the police in, she leaves No. 7 and moves into Halls of
Residence. Rita begs her to stay but jenny washes her hand of
her. Alec blames Tina for the fight in the Rovers. Alec bans Kevin
and Mark from the rovers, as he fears the site workers. To sort
out the aggro, Alec and Maurice agree to hold a five-a side. Alec
then realises he barred most of his team, while Curly is sporting
a black eye.
Wednesday (2991, Monday 13 November 1989)
Maurice gets Alec to put a £25 bet on the football
match. Alec tries to get Kevin and Mark to play but they refuse
to return to the Rovers. However when jack offers Kevin and Mike
free drinks to return to the Rovers, which they happily do. Mike
gets bored with not working and Dawn is pleased when her brother
Robert files in from Spain. Dawn fears Robert and Mike won't get
on and tries to keep them apart. Mike lays on a meal for Robert.
Dawn realises it was a mistake as Robert's success gets Mike annoyed,
as Robert thinks Mike is a failure. Mavis worries when Rita doesn't
arrive at work and Tina enjoys Eddie Following her around.
Thursday (2992, Wednesday 15 November 1989)
Mavis grows worried about Rita's whereabouts. Jenny feels
she's just gone on holiday. Alec refuses to buy strips for the
lads. However, Alec does have a Rover's strip printed very cheaply.
He is one man down on the team and Gazza the Giant is roped in.
Alec is so confident he ups the bet with Maurice to £50.
Robert apologies to Mike for his rudeness. Mike fears he could
do better than Robert any day. Robert tells him about a deal he's
doing in Alcazar.
Friday (2993, Friday 17 November 1989)
Jenny rows with Mavis for bringing the police into Rita's
disappearance and Deirdre helps Mavis out at the Kabin. However,
Mavis is convinced that Alan has murdered Rita and insists on
going back to the police. Derek however, refuses to go with her
so Deirdre agrees to go with her. Ken fears that Mike will cause
trouble, but Wendy doesn't see what he's worried about. Eddie
and Tina have their first date and Alan gives Jenny £50
to help her out.

Tuesday (2995, Wednesday 22 November 1989)
Mavis and Deirdre persuade Chrichton to make enquiries
about Rita's disappearance. Chrichton asks Mavis to identify a
woman at the mortuary who might be Rita. Tina manages to get Jack
to swap his night off with her so she can go out with Eddie, but
Tina is upset when Eddie stands her up.
Wednesday (2996, Friday 24 November 1989)
Mavis goes to the mortuary and is relieved that the woman
is not Rita. The police search No. 7 for clues to Rita's whereabouts,
jenny begins to feel scared and so the police take Alan in for
questioning. Maurice is annoyed that the police keep taking Alan
off and Alan feels he's being victimised. Eddie tells Tina his
mother was ill but she refuses to believe him. Tina is then touched
to see Eddie babysitting with his baby brother Jamie. Audrey is
thrilled when the Robert's offer is accepted on a semi in Hillside
Crescent and Ken worries when he hears Mike will be returning
in the morning.
Friday (2997, Monday 27 November
1989)
Mike returns from Spain, he is very pleased with himself.
Dawn is furious when Mike tells her he's bought the petrol station
in Alcazar, which Robert was planning to buy. Wendy tells ken
she's had enough of secrecy and want to know who and what he wants.
She tells him not to call her until he's made a decision. When
Mike mentions to Deirdre he saw Ken at the airport, Ken tells
Deirdre he was doing an airport passenger survey. Alan is taken
in for questioning again and the Police interrogate him. He swears
he doesn't know where Rita is, but Maurice sacks Alan as he doesn't
want any trouble from the police. Mrs Ramsden tells Tina that
Jamie is Eddie's son.

Monday (2998, Wednesday 29 November 1989)
The crime squad arrives at No. 7 and the they search Alan's
bedsit. Ken tries to see Wendy but she's had enough and tells
him to tell Deirdre about the affair. Ken is furious when Mike
jokes to Deirdre that Ken has a girlfriend. Ken tells him to stay
away from Deirdre. Wendy calls at the Kabin to see Deirdre. She
is annoyed as Deirdre is obviously in the dark about the affair.
Tina refuses to speak to Eddie and tells him to go back to his
wife. Eddie swears to Tina that he's not married. Mike gleefully
tells Robert he bought the petrol station from under his nose
for £150,000. He offers it to Robert for £250,000.
Robert shatters him by telling him he's not interested in the
land and reveals Mike bought the land off him and its useless.
He suggests Mike stays in his own league in future.
Tuesday (2999, Friday 1 December 1989)
Mike tries to stop the Spanish deal but the sale has already
gone through. Maurice accuses Dawn of being in league with Robert
to fleece him of all his money. She is upset and packs her stuff,
leaving him. Dawn begs Robert boy the land back off Mike but he
refuses. Ken asks Wendy for more time before he tells Deirdre
about them. Maurice tells Deirdre Ken is never in the Recorder
office and rumour has it that the paper is sinking. Deirdre asks
Ken if he's having an affair. He is defensive and make her break
down and apologise for doubting him. Eddie explains to Tina that
he is not married to Jamie's mother and is a one parent family,
which seems to put Tina's mind at ease. Maurice refuses to take
Alan back on at the site. Eddie has to stop Alan from Hitting
Maurice. The residents turn on Alan in the Rovers. He threatens
them with a broke bottle as they advance on him. The break up
when they discover the police are digging up the building site,
looking for Rita's body.
Wednesday (3000, Monday 4 December 1989)
Deirdre confides in Emily that she and Ken are having problems
in their marriage. Alec receives a phone call from Cyril Partridge
in Blackpool who has Rita Littlewood staying with him. Bet gets
Alec to driver her to Blackpool. The Gilroy's arrive at the Strand
to find Rita singing in the bar. She stuns Bet by asking her how
Len is coping on his own. Vera receives a cheque for £1,123
redundancy money. She takes the day off as a celebration and buys
a new dress and a suit for Jack, so they can have a big night
out.
Thursday (3001, Wednesday 6 December 1989)
Rita has a breakdown and has returned back to 1978. Bet
is concerned for Rita's sanity and stops Alec contacting the police.
Alan tells Jenny that Rita has ruined his life, while Alec returns
home and tells the police that Rita is in Blackpool. Bet pretends
to be ill to lure Rita to the hospital, but once there Rita seems
to disappear. The Roberts move out of No. 11, but when they arrive
at Hillside Crescent they re told they can't move in as the chain
has broken down. Distraught they return to No. 11, but are too
late as the McDonald's are already moving in. Jim is furious to
find the back yard full of Alf's junk and the Roberts have no
choice but to book into a hotel. Audrey becomes more upset when
the Duckworth's see them there.
Friday (3002, Friday 8 December 1989)
Crichton calls off the search for Rita, while Bet waits
at the hotel for Rita to return. Alec tells Jenny that Rita is
alive and insists that he tells Alan. Alan is outraged to discover
that Rita is in Blackpool and gets the hotel address off Alec.
Alan drives to the Strand hotel in Blackpool to take Rita home.
When he arrives he finds Bet in her room and demands to know where
Rita is. He bumps into Rita outside, she remembers everything
when she sees him and tries to run away from him. She dashes through
the traffic, he follows and his hit by a tram and killed instantly.
Bet runs to Rita and comforts her. The Robert's solicitor tells
them there nothing he can do; they're homeless. Alf moves Audrey
into the shop flat despite her protests.

Monday (3003, Monday 11 December 1989)
Jenny identifies Alan's body, but she feels that Alan was
hounded to death. Bet offers to pay for Alan's funeral, but Jenny
refuses her help, telling her she blames all the residents for
Alan's death. Curly surprises Reg by handing in his staff assessments
early. Reg is not happy with the glowing assessments and tells
Curly to make them more dodgy. Audrey is still depressed about
the house situation and Jim threatens Alf, telling him that he
needs to clear his rubbish away.
Tuesday (3004, Wednesday 13 December 1989)
Jenny is determined to give Alan a proper funeral. She
leans on Martin for support and Martin stands Gail up to help
Jenny. Jenny packs and returns to the Halls of residence, she
doesn't want anything more to do with Rita. Meanwhile Rita recovers
in hospital and looks forward to the future. Curly hands in his
reassessments, he is appalled to discover they're going to be
used to shed staff, including Vera. Vera is sacked and is convinced
Renee Dodds is behind it all. Alf has the rubbish cleared from
the yard and Audrey locks herself in the bathroom with a bottle
of whisky to drown her sorrows.
Wednesday (3005, Friday 15 December 1989)
Renee congratulates Curly for getting rid of Vera. Kimberley
overhears this and is upset that Curly had a hand in Vera's dismissal.
Curly finds Reg and Renee in a compromising position in the storeroom.
Using that information, Curly secures Vera's. Curly is however
horrified when Vera discovers that it was his assessment that
got her sacked in the first place. Rita realises Jenny blames
her for Alan's death when she returns to find Jenny has move out.
Alan is buried and Martin, Sally and Kevin go along to support
Jenny, but they soon discover that they are the only mourners.
The lack of response to Alan's funeral really upsets Jenny. After
the funeral Jenny is very emotional and asks Martin to stay the
night with her.
Thursday (3006, Monday 18 December 1989)
Gail is cool towards Martin after he has spent the night
on Jenny's floor, but at 1am Jenny phones Martin and Gail is furious
when he leaves. Ken and Tracy, whilst Christmas Shopping, bump
into Wendy. Tracey later tells Deirdre about the meeting. Deirdre
then challenges Ken on why he didn't mention bumping into Wendy.
He tells her thought Wendy was a bad subject. Alma, terry, Gail
and Martin have the café Christmas party at a night club.
However, when Alma sees Mike drunk at the club, she rushes to
grab his keys off of him before he has a chance to drive. The
Duckworth's tell Curly that he is no longer welcome at No. 9
Friday (3007, Wednesday 20 December 1989)
Nicky keeps asking about Martin. Gail tells Martin they
are finished and to collect his things but when he turns up at
the house Nicky appears wanting him to read him a story. Martin
refuses to accompany Jenny to see her solicitor and Martin and
Gail make up. Curly has difficulty in finding digs, so he reveals
to Vera the subterfuge had had to resort to in order for her to
keep her job and Liz gets a cool reception from Audrey.

Monday (3008, Friday 22 December 1989)
Derek is off to his office party and a very drunken Derek,
dressed as Santa Claus, gets locked in the Novelty Warehouse.
Sally invites Jenny for Christmas, but she refuses. When Rita
phones her she puts the phone down on her. Vera and Jack forgive
Curly and jack invites him for a drink at the Legion. On the way
back, Jack is convinced that he has seen Santa Claus on the roof.
A sing-a-long in the Rovers is being led by Percy, but a tight
lipped Mavis is fuming as Derek is still missing. Ken finally
arrives home and reveals to Deirdre he is having an affair with
Wendy Crozier and Mike asks Alma to spend Christmas with him but
she refuses.
Tuesday (3009, Monday 25 December 1989)
Deirdre refuses to talk about the affair on Christmas Day,
she tries to make the day as pleasant as possible for Tracy, but
Tracy tells parents that she will go out so that they can talk.
Ken tells Deirdre he was forced into Wendy's arms because she
was so busy a the Council. He then throws the affair she had with
Mike back in her face, but she refuses to be blamed. Deirdre refuses
to talk to Ken any more and tells him to decide whether he's leaving
or staying. Rita worries about Jenny spending Christmas on her
own, but Jenny refuses to see Rita. Martin and Gail entertain
the Brennan's and the Roberts and Martin gives Gail a gold bracelet.
Ivy is then upset when she finds a photo of Brian tucked away
in a drawer. Jack swears to never drink again after seeing Santa,
but he is relieved when to discover it was Derek on the warehouse
roof. However, the news isn't all good when Derek opens an envelope
from work only to discover he's been fired. Alma and Mike both
have a quiet Christmas but when Mike invites Alma for a meal on
Boxing Day he is pleased that she accepts.
Wednesday (3010, Wednesday 27 December 1989)
Alma refuses to listen to Audrey's warning and looks forward
to being with Mike again. Mike entertains Alma. He tells her about
the Spanish deal and that he's nearly broke. She feels sorry for
him and assures him she's not put off him knowing he's got nothing.
Deirdre accuses Ken of using Wendy as a way of getting back at
her over Mike. She tells him she feels nothing but contempt for
him. Ken asks Deirdre to give him time to finish with Wendy but
she refuses. Alf is furious when the McDonald twins kick a football
through the shop window.
Thursday (3011, Friday 29 December 1989)
Alf and Jim argue over the cost of the window replacement.
Alf is reluctant to claim on the insurance, so he gives Jim a
glazier's bill for £145 as they sing and ring in the New
Year together. Derek and Mavis cover up for his job loss. He tells
everyone he's changing jobs as he's bored of Novelties. Ken tells
Wendy that Deirdre knows about their affair. Deirdre is upset
when Tracy tell her she knows Ken is with Wendy instead of working.
Deirdre tries to explain the situation to Tracy and they comfort
each other. Wendy tells Ken he's welcome to move in with her but
he's worried about telling Tracy. Wendy tells Ken she's not prepared
to share him with Deirdre. Deirdre sees the New Year in with tears
as Ken returns from having spent the day and evening with Wendy.
Bet worries about Alec as he becomes mournful, but Alec feels
that he wants to find Sandra and make up for the last 20 years.
Friday (3012, Monday 1 January 1990)
As the residents see in the New Year, Deirdre realises
Ken has spent the day with Wendy. She throws him out. Jim agrees
to pay the excess on the new window with Alf claiming the rest
on the insurance. Steve and Andy donate their Christmas money.
Alf and Jim make up as the twins send a JCB crashing into the
shop, smashing the window. Alec tells Bet he wants to find his
daughter.
