Friday 2 March

It's Friday night and time for this week's episode of Coronation Street which I promise is void of mentions of foot and mouth disease, snow and any of the other depressing things happening in this country at the moment!

Tonight's show opens at the Grimshaws, the boys and Dennis are sat around the table. Eileen reminds them that Candice is coming for tea that night much to the amusement of Jason and Dennis. She tells them to behave. Todd doesn't look happy.

Emma looks worried as she prepares for the inquest into the Freshco' siege. She tells Curly that she fears an unlawful killing verdict. Curly reassures her and the men from her force have sent her some flowers.

Ken is still fuming over Mike's day with Adam. Peter arrives with a photo they found at Susan's flat. He gives it to Ken; it is a lovely photo of Susan and Adam. Ken sombrely looks at it and says that the one thing she would have wanted was not to get Mike Baldwin involved with Adam.

Karen has stayed the night at the flat with Steve unbeknown to Vik. Steve offers to make breakfast while Karen gets dressed. Vik comes in, Steve dodges a confrontation and says that he is making breakfast and Vik should go and have a shower. Vik agrees and goes into the bathroom as Karen comes out of the bedroom and makes her exit.

Linda is outside the factory. She tells Jimmy that they are going to an inquest and not a court hearing. Emma and Curly on the other side of the street get good luck messages from Alma and Ken.

In the Kabin, Norris finishes serving an elderly customer. He waits until he has gone and comments that he didn't wear age well. He says that some people do age well. He says he's nearly sixty and he has the same waist size that he had ten years ago. Fred comes in and reminds them of the champagne reception for Emma in the Rovers that evening.

Ken looks at the photo that Peter gave him. He admits that he is scared of losing Adam. He says that a judge will look in favour of Mike's job and all his money of his job (pushing trolleys). Peter says that Susan was "well off" and has left Adam all her money in a trust fund. The news that money isn't going to play apart of the custody decision pleases Ken.

In the Rovers at lunchtime, Alma and Mike meet at the bar. Alma asks if it's true that Adam is living with him. Mike says that after the court hearing that he will. Curly and Emma walk in. Curly orders two brandys and says that the inquest heard that Emma is innocent and that it was a lawful killing. She has been commended for her bravery. When Mike congratulates her Emma says that he should go and ask Linda's family what they think as she saw the look of hate from them all after the verdict.

Ken and Adam return from shopping. Adam is worried about Mike, he says that he likes both him and Ken and asks why they can't get along. Ken says that the problem is that he doesn't want Adam to live with Mike but Mike does.

In the Kabin, Norris continues to drop hints about his sixtieth birthday. He shows Alma a nice sixtieth birthday card he has picked out of the stock. Alma says she doesn't know anyone with a birthday coming up!

On the phone at the factory, Mike is getting angry with the caller who hangs up. Linda and the two Sykes brothers return from the hearing. Jimmy is unhappy with the verdict and Ryan can't believe that the person who shot his brother was a woman.

Ken tells Deirdre about the trustfund that Susan had set up before she died. Adam comes off the phone; he was speaking to one of his friends in Glasgow. He says that their team has a cup game tomorrow. Deirdre feels sorry for him as he can't play for his team.

At the Grimshaws, Candice arrives for her tea. After which Todd asks her to see her again tomorrow but Candice is unsure and says that she had arranged to meet "a friend".

Back at the Rovers, Norris continues to drop hints about his birthday saying that March 5th is a very significant date. It was on this day that Stalin died in 1953. Earlier on, Rita had said to Vera and Emily that she was planning a surprise party.

Steve and Karen leave the Rovers and head for the flat. Vik has forgotten something and returns to the flat, He opens the door to find the couple laid on the floor kissing!

The Sykes brothers and Linda leave the factory. Jimmy sees Curly and Emma across the street. Ryan says that an injustice has been done and that he will get his revenge. Despite Linda telling him that she's not worth it, Ryan says that she won't be laughing for very long...

Sunday 4 March

Today is my uncle's fifty-first birthday. So happy birthday Uncle Steve(!). Hope you had a good day, have a great year!

And over in Weatherfield events are delivered courtesy of ITV Television and as ever thanks to Cadbury's Fruit and Nut for the sponsorship.

Written by Peter Mills, directed by Philip Wood.

Outside Underworld Mike climbs out of Linda's car displaying the almost bald back of his head. Linda runs up the steps to allow the waiting Ryan into work as he is doing some overtime. Linda tells him that the previous day was difficult and if he does not want to work. Linda also wants a word on another subject but does not get the chance. Mike heads in the direction of the Barlows - he wants to see Adam.

Candice runs into Sarah outside the Kabin. The former has completed her paper round and now asks Sarah about this evening - can she come round and get ready before seeing Todd - Darren is being told that Candice will be at her house. Sarah reckons it is two timing - but Candice would do the same for her.

Steve emerges from the Kabin and catches site of Vik on the other side of the road. They eye each other suspiciously. Steve crosses the road and the two exchange words. Steve tries to convince Vik he did nothing wrong - he did not see Karen until after she split with Vik. Vik may believe this but he remains extremely unhappy and storms off.

At the Barlows Ken and Deirdre are sharing breakfast when Adam comes downstairs and she asks him if he has any plans. Ken has some plans - there is a needle match between Weatherfield Town and Newtown Wanderers - a bit of a needle match. Adam agrees - but he is not going to change his allegiance and refuses to wear a scarf. Deirdre says she is not into football - she merely cheers the team scoring the goals. Ken observes that Adam grows up he can expect women to regularly change their allegiances!

Along at the Watts Curly is refusing to go away. It appears he is going on loan elsewhere for two weeks and is reluctant to leave Emma. She won't hear of it and he needs the experience on his CV. Norman has arranged for Alma to pop in on Emma. He observes that the McCartneys hardly spent a night apart in their whole relationship. Emma is hardly impressed but admits they play for different bands so it is not so easy.

Back at the Barlows Mike arrives and asks Adam about his plans for the day. How would he like to see Manchester United play Leeds United? After some discussion Ken gives way fairly gracefully and Adam departs with Mike, after Dreary puts in a word - after all it is Premier League.

Karen gets off the bus and walks straight into Vik and apologises. He refuses the apology so Karen tells him to get a life and get his nose out of hers. Vik bans Karen from the flat.

Sam and David are working on the babe magnet when Sarah emerges with the baby - they are heading to the Red Rec for a walk. Sam pays Sarah some attention and David gets uppity simply to draw Sam's attention back to him. Clear sibling rivalry for Sam's attention. David knows he has won and points this out to Sarah!

At the Rovers plans are being made for Norris's sixtieth party. Curly overhears and offers his house for the party to the planners. Emma accepts the idea. All agreed. Curly thanks Alma for looking after Emma. Edna recalls a 60th birthday party where they even invited the boss. Sadly he thought the woman concerned was 55 and had to make her retire! How does this woman enjoy life???

At the bar Bobbi is buying a drink for Vik from Geena and brings her up to date on the latest Karen gossip. According to Geena Karen has got more front than Blackpool and Bobbi agrees that the same is true of Steve - a match made in Grimsby!! LOL

Emma is seeing Curly off on his trip - observed by Ryan who is clearing rubbish out of Underworld. Emma and Curly kiss and he departs having promised to phone every night. Emma looks around and Ryan starts thinking of the damage she has caused his family.

Deirdre has made some tea for Ken and tells him to cheer up. After all what did Ken expect? Ken is not happy with the way Mike continues to interfere. Dreary got Dev to video the match so Adam and Ken can watch it with all the replays. Deirdre tries to re-assure Ken - but he is worried that they are always bickering. Dreary tells him that he is an unexploded bomb. He reckons she supports Baldwin all the time.

Linda sees Ryan finish his work. She offers him a lift - she still wants to talk to him - but he departs rapidly.

Todd asks Sarah what to get from the video shop. Sarah tells him to get a Brad Pitt video. Sarah also tells Todd that Candice is "popular" but her message does not appear to get through.

Ryan reaches the end of the Street and stands by Audreh's watching Emma's front door. Steve and Vik wander past - still bickering. But Vik ends the conversation by telling Steve that he is welcome to her. Ryan observes Alma being welcomed by Emma.

Candice is sitting on the sofa at the Platts having her hair done. David reckons it will take a miracle for her to look good. Candice reckons she is in for a good evening as Todd's family will be out. Sarah tells Candice off for two-timing the boys but David listens to every word. (David is still reading Harry Potter by the way). Sam comes in and Sarah is particularly nice to him.

Ken is telling Peter about Mike's appearance earlier in the day. Peter is reminded that Mike has seduced his wife, married his daughter and is taking his grandson away. Peter tells Ken that he has to move away.

Candice is being particularly nice to Todd. She wants to be a model and they swap compliments. Eileen's great and Dennis is not bad either. Candice asks about his other girl friends and having established there are none she kisses him.

David lets Darren in - he wants to know where Candice is. David spills all the beans about Todd at number 11. Darren departs and Sarah decides to beat the living daylights out of David. As she does Sam comes in and pulls them apart. He gives Sarah a hefty telling off.

Candice and Todd are snogging when there is a knock at the door. Darren tells Todd that they have been going out for a year. She is just a slag, according to Darren and Todd should having nothing more to do with her. Darren departs and Todd looks at Candice. "Say nice things do I? - Well here's one - you're dumped" and hands her her coat and she has to leave.

Steve and Karen observe events and she relays the flat ban. The two are obviously getting on well.

Mike returns Adam to the family home. Adam is told to thank Mike and Mike gives a final present - a brochure? signed by David Beckham. Adam thanks Mike again and the latter departs. Peter calls him a slimy scumbag. Ken has decided - he is going to move to Scotland - away from Baldwin.

And out on the Street in an almost silent scene we see Ryan watch Emma as she opens the front door, puts out a milk bottle, look around and then close the door. He has no fond thoughts for her.

Great writing tonight - Ken's comment to Adam about women, Geena and Bobbi discussing Karen and Steve, David (twice) with Sam and telling Darren about Candice. Wonderful stuff.

See you all next week.

Monday 5 March

Peter asks Ken if he has told Adam about moving to Glasgow. He says he hasn't. Adam comes in and says how he misses his old school and friends.

Emma finds a load of rubbish dumped in her backyard.

Candice wants to take revenge on David for telling about her two boyfriends.

Ken tells Deidre that he intends to move to Scotland. She is very reluctant to go. She says it would be ok for Adam, but there is nothing for them to do there.

Norris hopes to celebrate his birthday at the Rovers, he doesn't know about the surprise party. He asks Emily to join him, but she says she has a meeting to go to that night.

Deidre and Ken row about moving to Scotland, and she storms out to go to work.

Fred tells Ashley they need a good offer to promote meat. (Does he not read the papers?!).

Rita gives Norris a birthday card. When he invites her out for a drink, she says she is looking after Rosie and Sophie. When he goes out, Rita and Anthony plan the surprise for Norris like a military operation.

Deidre tries to confront Mike about the feuding he and Ken are having over Adam. He is not willing to compromise. Deidre bursts into tears talking to Dev.

Candice tells one of the boyfriends {sorry I don't know their names, nor am I that interested!), that she is dumping the other one. He accepts it.

Norris goes to the Rovers and notices it is very quiet with hardly anyone there. He takes it as a personal snub that others have thought of better things to do than join him. He is annoyed and decides to leave and jumps on a bus pursued by Anthony.

Ken returns from work. Deidre is already in and asks him if he has had any second thoughts about moving to Scotland. He agreed he should have talked it through with her before deciding to go. She is furious that he is prepared to go without her.

Everyone is preparing for the party. Meanwhile Norris and Anthony are getting drunk in an out of town pub. Anthony tries to persuade Norris to come back to the Rovers. Norris doesn't want to.

Deidre starts packing to move out. She thinks that Ken and Mike are manipulating Adam for their own selfish ends.

The party are worried what has happened to Norris. Anthony tells Norris about the surprise party. They are both drunk.

Ken tells Peter that Deidre has left. Peter doesn't think it matters. Ken is devistated. Ken tells Adam that Peter had made a mistake telling him that they are going to Scotland. He says they are not going in the near future.

Norris and Anthony come back to the Street drunk and singing as everyone else is leaving the party. Rita is annoyed.

Dev sees Deidre in the street sitting on a bench, and she explains she has left Ken. He invites her back.

Wednesday 7 March

Adam doesn't want to go to school. Ken tries to assure him he'll settle in and it's a good school. But they're making fun of his accent and Peter said he could go to his old school. Ken gets cross and tells him to get ready now! Blanche tells Ken off. It's not Adam's fault that Deirdre's left him. She wonders what the court will make of it. He of course blames Deirdre, he didn't want her to go.

She's at Dev's where he's made her breakfast. She assure him she'll be gone by dinnertime. She thinks she's made her point to Ken but she can't face going back there. She breaks down. When she stops crying, Dev insists she has the day off.

Anthony goes to the café for a full English. Norris follows shortly after. This is a hangover cure for the two miscreants. They haven't seen Rita yet, though Norris did ring to say he'd be late. He could feel the icy blast down the phone. They agree to go to see her together.

Fred breezes into Ashley's shop. Has he had any marketing ideas yet? Boris suggests game: ostrich, impala, wildebeest. Ash thinks it's a butcher's shop not jungle book. It's popular down south but round here folk turn their nose up at herbs in sausage. Blanche comes in and they ask if she'd like to try some ostrich today. No I would not!

Emma is in the Kabin when Ryan comes in. He walks out again and we can see him behind the door. Charlie enters and the girls agree to meet up tonight. The two neer-do-wells arrive. Anthony says it was his fault. Norris says it was him. They lost all sense of time as they were male bonding. Anthony gets told off for not following his instructions and then Rita tells Norris what a lot of time and effort everyone put in. He won't be getting so much as a card next year. Norris slinks off into the back and Rita and Anthony restrain laughing out loud.

Over at the Rovers, Alma joins Ken and hears the full story of Mike's misdeeds. Ken explains that it's all been a huge strain and Deirdre doesn't see things from his point of view. Alma suggests he find her and sort it out before Mike finds out. He'll think all his birthdays have come at once. Geena tells Toyah that Dev is putty in Deirdre's hands.

Fred is still trying to come up with an idea. Elliot's is associated with sausages and pies. Ah ha! The Weatherfield Sausage Trail! All the butchers make their best sausage. People buy a ticket and go from one to the next tasting them. They can have street entertainers, face-painting, music. Ash pours cold water on it, but Fred's off on a fact-finding mission, ie sounding out the other butchers.

Interval

Ken goes to the shop, where Dev tells him Deirdre has the day off but is staying with him. Ken has a go at him for putting his nose in. (He still blames the whole mess on Dev in the first place).

Steve and Karen are at the Rovers. Vik scowls at them through the wall of a booth, and is not impressed when Steve comes round to ask if he'll go out tonight so he can be alone with Karen. Vik thinks Steve stole his girlfriend and is rubbing his nose in it. Emma and Charlie arrive and Ryan hears that Emma will be in the house alone tonight.

Deirdre is mooching round the flat when Mike arrives to see Dev. She asks him in. He apologises for the way he behaved yesterday.

Elliot father and son are having a heated discussion. Ash says he's altered Fred's recipe with his own touches but Fred hasn't noticed. Boris intervenes to calm them down. Fred thinks they should make something special. Ash says they should make a solid traditional banger. At this stage, Fred thinks they're entering together, but Boris points out that they both have different shops, surely they should be competing against each other.

Emma and Charlie go home and we see Ryan watching from behind the hairdressers.

Deirdre has told Mike the whole story. He doesn't want to come between her and Ken, he just wants what's best for Adam. (This line is wearing a bit thin. Neither of them seem to be considering his feelings). Deirdre is sick of the points scoring. Can't Mike deal with it in a sensible mature way. You take him to a football match so Ken has to take him to Scotland (oops!). Mike is off. He can't do that! I won't let him! Deirdre explains that like Mike, Ken is terrified of losing Adam and she can see both points of view. At this point, Ken arrives. He's come to apologise. She looks stunned but lets him in. He of course is not impressed to see Mike. Deirdre tries to explain that Mike was there to see Dev. They start in at each other and Ken discovers that Deirdre told Mike about Scotland, so now he has a go at her. First you desert me and stay with a man who's caused my family a great deal of upset. I swallow my pride to come and see you and I find you colluding with Baldwin. He won't listen to her explanations. He had come to tell her that he wasn't going to Scotland without her. But that's changed now. Maybe Deirdre wants to start up her affair again? He won't stop fighting for what he believes in and she and Baldwin can go to Hell.

We see Ryan holding a brick. He throws it through Emma's window. She looks out the door but there's no-one there.

Friday 9 March

Tonight's show opens in the household of the Watts. After a brick was hurled through the window on Wednesday night it seems that Emma has got the only DIY expert in the Greater Manchester area (Danny) around to measure up for a new window. Charlie Ramsden comes across and asks Emma what happened, Emma tells her and when Charlie asks if she has rung Curly and told him Emma says she hasn't as it would only mean he'd come straight back home.

At the Breakfast table, Adam is worrying about school, Ken reassures him as he goes and gets ready. Blanche comes in, Deirdre of course has moved out to Dev's. Blanche tries to reassure Ken that Deirdre is not "consorting with the enemy" and she says that her daughter is right - Adam SHOULD be with his rightful father.

At Dev's house (formerly Duggie Ferguson's I believe?) Geena and Dev have just got up and are in the kitchen. As the two play in the kitchen, Deirdre interrupts them. She quickly apologises and goes to open the shop on Dev's recommendation. As Dev goes back to Geena she looks bemused.

Danny asks Emma if she has reported the incident to her station. Emma asks what the point would be as they probably wouldn't catch whomever did it.

Linda and Mike are sat on the car. Mike is once again heading off to the solicitors. Linda wishes him luck and gets out to go to the factory. Fred Elliott appears and asks Mike if he can have a lift to the Butcher's Guild meeting, Mike agrees. Duggie then appears and reminds the two in the car that the brewery rep is coming to the Rovers this morning. Mike says he will miss it but Fred agrees to come. Duggie is unhappy that all three of them won't be there.

In the cafe, Geena appears and orders a bacon sandwich from Vera. Audrey also stood at the counter teases Geena about keeping her energy up to satisfy Dev. Geena can't take a joke after what happened that morning, cancels her order and leaves.

Across at a table, Emma questions Linda about the window breakage. Linda says that she wouldn't do it and if she had decided to take revenge than Emma would be in hospital..

Fred drops into the butchers shop where Ashley and Boris are discussing the upcoming sausage contest. After an innuendo loaded discussion about sausages it emerges that Ashley will be going it alone in the contest and not along with Fred as Fred wanted.

Back at the Rovers, Duggie has had to meet the brewery rep on his own. Toyah asks him what he is going to do and Duggie says he doesn't know yet.

Dev appears and gives a bunch of flowers to Geena to apologise for "this morning". Geena is still not too impressed and tells him she'll see him later.

Fred appears and orders his usual only to be given a stern word from Duggie. He says he is tired of being played for a mug and running the place for two partners who do no work and drink the profits. Duggie walks out leaving just Fred in charge.

Ryan is drinking at the bar when big sister walks in and asks him if he broke Emma's window. He says he didn't but I doubt Linda believed him. She warns him to stay away from Emma.

Fred complains to Audrey about Ashley refusing to be a team with him. Audrey says that it's a rite of passage for Ashley and that he wants to do it on his own. Fred reluctantly agrees with her.

Geena tells Linda about her problems with Deirdre living in the same house as her and Dev. Linda has other things on her mind though. Geena asks how Linda feels about it all and she says that she is happy for Mike.

At Ken's house, the solicitor is discussing the situation with him and Peter. He asks if Mrs Rachid (Deirdre) will be at the hearing. Despite Ken and Peter's looks of reservations, Ken says that she will.

Mike returns to the Rovers and greets Linda. His meeting with his solicitor has gone well and he is confident that they will win custody of Adam. He says he will stop by Adam later and reassure him (oh oh..) Linda orders the drinks while Mike nips to the loo. Alma (who unbeknown to Linda knows about her and Mark Baldwin's fling) has her jibe at Linda saying that she's acting quite the dutiful wife. Linda doesn't rise to the bait though and says she's only trying to be supportive to Mike.

In the Corner Shop, Geena having just finished work goes in to see Dev. She says that she wants to go back to her flat that night as she doesn't want to bump into Deirdre at his again. He says that if they go out clubbing then Deirdre will be in bed long before they get home. He says that Deirdre won't be staying there for long.

Back at the Rovers, Maria's brother and his mates (I don't think his name has ever been mentioned or if it has then I've missed it?) comes in and orders a pint. Fred who is in charge, refuses to serve him as he doesn't look old enough (I've seen boys get served in pubs around here that look twelve but that's another story! - Phil). When they have gone, Toyah says that Fred should have asked for ID. Fred says that he didn't like the look of them.

Deirdre returns to Ken's to pick some more clothes. As she turns to go back out, Ken walks in. He apologies for what has happened and asks her to come back home. She agrees and the two hug. Ken then puts his foot in it and says that he couldn't face the hearing without her. Deirdre blows up when she hears this and says he only wants her back for that. And so she storms back out again..

Emma and Charlie are having a girly night in with a bottle of wine. The two laugh off the brick attack and say that they must do it again.

Mike turns up at Ken's. The two argue and Adam appears from upstairs asking what is going on. The old men reassure Adam and say that they are talking about his wellbeing.

At Dev's, Dev and Geena are snogging in the hallway when.. Deirdre appears from the kitchen! She is upset about her row with Ken and goes for a brandy with Dev leaving Geena looking bemused in the hall.

Back at the girly night in, Emma is putting out the rubbish. Charlie asks her where the corkscrew is. When Charlie goes back inside, Emma hears a noise from the alley at the back of the houses. She goes to the gates and looks out to see what it was. There is nothing there so she goes back into the house. The show finishes with a sinister looking Ryan looking into the yard from the alleyway!

Sunday 11 March

ITV say episode 5000 - who are we to argue? 40 years, 5000 episodes - a lot of water and a lot of story lines. Two of these dominate tonight's one hour long episode - the future of Adam and Emma's relationship with the Sykes family. A couple of others get a look in.

The sponsor is Cadbury's WispaBite.

Much of the programme was concerned with the hearing in court of an application for a residence order by Mike Baldwin - essentially seeking the Court to confirm that Adam should live with his father. Much of the hearing covered ground we have all heard before so coverage here of the arguments and cross chat will be limited.

Written by Susan Wilkins, directed by John Anderson

Blanche is trying to encourage Adam to eat, when he refuses she lectures - she is only trying to be helpful to be sure. Adam wishes she would shut up. Adam is unhappy at school - he has covered all the work and he knows all the answers - he is bored. He wants to attend the court hearing but is not allowed.

Emma has a massive hangover and Charlie is helping recovery. Matt and Ash watched the football. Emma is astounded by Charlie's ability to recover - she reckons that 10 year's teaching has prepared her. They agree to a game of badminton at lunchtime.

Mike is having a whisky and he and Linda discuss the court hearing.

Dreary is washing up at Dev's. He suggests she speaks to Ken. She refuses. Geena wanders in and out whilst Dev is trying to convince Deirdre to go to court. Deirdre does not know if their relationship can recover.

Side story - the Platts. Martin arrives to find Sam present and David is more interested in helping fix Sam's car rather than buy a CD with Martin. Sam weighs in on Martin's side and Sarah tells him to go with Martin.

Outside the Court Mike sounds off at the social worker and Linda tries to get him to calm down. Linda then goes to talk to the social worker and she puts in a few careful words about how she believes that Adam is being bullied at the comprehensive. Mike wants Adam to go back to a private school. Linda went to a tough school and would not want this visited on a sensitive person.

At the shop Deirdre is ignoring the customer, principally Ryan. Dev finally tells her to go the Court - he will manage. Emma wants some headache tablets and as she comes in Ryan sees her and dashes out.

Back at the Rovers, Ashley is researching sausages when Max comes in looking like death warmed up. She is not pregnant again this month and she feels time is passing her by. Behind the bar Toyah was updating Duggie on the events when Fred was left in charge. Toyah being friendly with Duggie - all seems a bit odd.

Outside the court the social worker asks for peace - but it fails. Deirdre arrives and turns up to support Ken. The social worked is confused. Peter wishes them luck. In court Mike states his case for allowing Adam to live with him. History is retold. Mike would normally have primary care under the law but he wants to make sure Adam has the best life possible.

Emma and Charlie return from badminton. They run into Max who finds out she was left out of the drinks the previous evening and she departs unhappy. Emma stands up for her. Emma and Charlie agree to meet later.

Adam returns home and runs into Blanche. She offers to make him a sandwich and whilst her back is turned he opens her purse and removes a note. He runs out and Blanche immediately spots the missing money - a cheeky little beggar.

Mike is admitting to his mistakes and says he is not sure why Susan kept him out of his life. Mike loses his cool slightly over Susan's abortion. Ken leaps to his feet and objects but the judge presiding tells him to keep his views to himself.

Fred finds Ashley and Boris having a lunchtime drink and discussing business strategy and Fred after a long rant about sausage making departs. Duggie reckons Fred thinks that running a pub is a hobby. Duggie then notes Ryan downing a whisky chaser followed by a pint in one and tells him to take it easy - Ryan tells him that it is his own funeral.

Blanche is outside the corner shop asking Dev if he has seen Adam - no he hasn't but then he sees Adam leaving in a Streetcars taxi. Blanche considers Dev useless for not stopping him.

Back in the Court Mike is telling his side of the story - emphasising how unhappy Susan was with Mike. Mike wanted to control her. Baldwin is quite wound up. Under cross examination Ken has to admit that he did not know of his grandchild and that he and Susan were estranged. This seems to impact the judge as the lack of contact is discussed. ken admits that some deceptions are a necessity. Mike and Ken start shouting across the court. The judge notes the frayed tempers and adjourns the court.

Ryan breaks a window and lets himself into Curly's house. He closes the curtain and thinking there is no-one in helps himself to a vodka. With a wrench he sets about destroying the sofa. he is making a good job of this when the phone rings and he walks to the other side of room and tears it out of the socket. Emma comes downstairs drying her hair and she recognises him immediately. Emma asks if he is going to shoot her with a spanner. Ryan becomes extremely threatening and tells her she is going to regret killing his brother.

Outside the court the shouting match continues. Mike reckons that the social worker is against him. Ken asks if Linda will have an affair with Adam when he is old enough - in front of everyone. At this point Adam wanders into view. Peter approaches him and Adam wants to know what is going on. Adam asks why Ken and Mike hate each other. Ken tries to explain that they do not hate each other - but they are two very different individuals with a very different outlook on life and events. Mike agrees!! They all try and tell Adam that he can say what he wants - he has been confused. Mike says that Adam has the right to a say. Ken agrees. Deirdre reckons that Ken and Mike need their heads knocking together and Linda agrees with that. Adam goes off to talk to the social worker.

Ryan is downing the vodka and Emma starts getting him to talk. Emma reckons she can get Curly to buy another sofa. Ryan saw her at the inquest and later drinking champagne - she got away with it. Ryan accuses them of all being bent. Ryan does not accept that Dean had a gun - it was real and he used it. He simply does not believe the evidence. Dean did not deserve to die.

At the Rovers Fred explains the events of the other evening. Duggie wants the till filled with money. Duggie says the business strategy needs looking at. As this is the second time today that Fred has heard those words he is not amused. Geena is upset with Dev over Deirdre - he offers to take her away but she is not so easily won over.

Mike is explaining to Linda how he had only told Ken about the affair so that she would know she was forgiven. Ken thanks Deirdre for coming - he is glad of her support.

Ryan is telling Emma about Dean and drinking vodka. He puts the bottle down and she tries to jump him but he is stronger and looks as though he is about to beat her with the wrench. He starts breaking various pots and damaging the place. Ryan is convinced that if Dean had just been allowed to leave there would have been no problem. Ryan sees Dean's face each time he closes his eyes. Emma did not want to kill Dean and she sees him every night. But Emma sees the gun being pointed at her. She wishes there been another way, but there wasn't.

At the Platts Martin arrives to collect David who is very dirty and working on the car parts. Sam says David must go to town.

The court resumes and the social worker has to give evidence. The killer statement is that compromise is unlikely and that Adam has decided he would prefer to be with Mike - but he is reluctant to say - because he does not want to hurt anyone's feelings. Mike suddenly realises he is going to win.

The judge has to announce a decision - normally the child's views should take precedence unless he is unable to make a clear decision. The judge feels that on balance the father should take care of Adam - Michael Vernon Baldwin is the winner. Mike solicitor asks for thanks in the form of his cheque. Peter finds out that Ken has lost. Mike tires an olive branch but Ken rejects it. Deirdre says she is so sorry.

Charlie knocks at Emma's front door. She calls through the letter box. The knocking stops and Emma asks Ryan how he is going to get out. Ryan tells her to shut up - can he find a way out - things got out of hand with Dean - does he want that? Emma tells Ryan to go. At which point Charlie arrives through the back door and he makes a run for it.

Mike and Linda are supping champagne - there will need to be some changes at the flat as he is moving in. Linda is taking the credit on the basis of her chat with the social worker. Mike accepts that the past is a different world and she is forgiven for everything. However something is bothering Linda - she hides her feelings but something is bothering her.

At the Barlows alcohol is being consumed in defeat. Deirdre believes that Adam should be with his father but does not feel that Linda should be involved. Peter wants to fight on - but Ken is not so sure. Adam must not know how or why his mother died. Adam is packing and acknowledges he has upset everyone - they tell him not but their faces do not hide the defeat they feel.

Martin and David return - Sam has gone, much to David's disappointment. Martin is upset - Gail says that David has found a new friend and Martin says they could all do with one of those.

Charlie is trying to re-assure Emma. Emma is not planning to report the events - she reckons that it is simply a kid with a grievance. Emma believes it is over and asks for a cup of tea. She is stunned and starts crying.

At the Barlows Ken tells Adam that he is not angry. Adam feels it would not be fair if he lived with them - they are semi-retired, short of money and in a small house. Adam has been ski-ing regularly and Linda wants to learn and he reckons it will be better for him with his parents. Adam then tells Mike he really likes him. And shortly after Ken tells Adam that he loves him back. Adam hopes that one day Ken and Mike can be friends.

Outside in the Street Linda takes Adam's bags and Mike offers another olive branch. Ken refuses. Peter watches unhappy. Deirdre seeks to console Ken. Ken has let Susan down completely.

And that was that.

Monday 12 March

Blanche gets up (in curlers - LOL!) to find Deidre sleeping on the couch, which gives Blanche a shock. She tells Deidre that Ken and her ought to sort themselves out.

Charlie tells Emma that she ought to tell the cops about the threats.

Ken thanks Deidre for staying. He hopes she will come back. Meanwhile Peter and Ken start talking about the custody order and Deidre walks out.

Fred congratulates Mike for winning custody. Mike says it is when Adam accepts him as a father is what counts. Mike then sees Dev and thanks him, because it was with him that it all started.

Gina talks to Deidre in the shop. She thinks she and Ken are back together. Deidre says she may not be, but will move out anyway. Dev says she doesn't have to. Gina is annoyed.

Fred is trying to butter up Ashley to team up together for the sausage competition. Edna comes in and upsets Fred. He calls her a prophet of dome. She storms out.

Dev tries to put the male point of view to Deidre in an attempt to help patch things up with Ken and Deidre.

A police car turns up outside Emma's place. Linda asks Ryan if he knows what it is all about.

Alma sarcasticlly congratulates Mike in the pub.

Charlie tells Matt about Emma. He is surprised that Curly hasn't come back. Charlie explains that Emma doesn't want to do anything about it.

Mike gives a progress report on Adam to Ken. Ken thinks he is rubbing salt in the wounds.

Linda comes round to Emma to apologise to her on behalf of her brother. She wants to know what Emma is going to do about it. Linda said he had work in the factory to take his mind of the shooting incident. She says he is immature. Linda asks if she is going to press charges. Emma says she will let it go, but if he steps out of line again, she'll be straight round the nick.

Alma invites Ken for a pint. She sympathises with him. Ken thinks he is too worn out to fight any more. She thinks the first thing he should do was to invite Deidre to dinner.

When Adam comes home from school, Mike asks him what the boys were shouting to him. He says something about haggis and Loch Ness Monster. Mike hopes he answered back. Adam is upset about the school. He doesn't like it. He says Linda says he could go to a different school.

Ken invites Deidre to dinner, she accepts. Dev gives him a bottle of wine on the house.

Duggie wants to get things organised better with the partnership between Fred and Mike. He organises a meeting for them to talk about things.

Ken and Deidre get on very well over dinner. Ken apologises for being tied up with Adam. He says to lose Adam was bad enough, but to lose her as well is devistating. He is so happy when she agrees to come back. He then ruins it all by saying that they will be able to appeal against the decision as they are back together. This, of course, upsets Deidre and walks out!

Wednesday 14 March

Deirdre is very angry and roaring through Dev's flat like a hurricane. He assures her that Ken will see things differently in time but she doesn't think he'll ever accept that Mike has rights to see his son. She thought he was insincere at their dinner the other night.

Ken is talking the situation over with Peter. He wonders if Deirdre will come back and doesn't think she supports Ken. Blanche tries to defend her and they all start arguing.

Fred and Ash are doing a sausage taste test in the café. Their verdict: over-processed supermarket rubbish. We hear that more applications arrived this morning.

Linda is talking to Ryan about her discussion with Emma. If he stays away from her, she won't press charges. Ryan doesn't believe it, but Linda point out he'd already be nicked if she didn't mean it. Meanwhile, Emma is updating Charlie. She thinks she should do something. Emma is more sympathetic to Ryan's feelings. (I wonder if he'll ever appreciate this).

Deirdre collects paperwork from the shop to work on at Dev's. She's spotted laughing and smiling by Ken and Peter. They're walking down the street and see Adam at the Health Centre, where Mike's taken him for a routine check-up. They wave at him but don't want to go and talk to him with Mike being there. Adam looks hurt. Duggie accosts Mike and is very angry that he isn't taking the Rovers seriously.

Fred is in the Rovers trying to persuade Audrey to judge the competition. She'll be renowned through Weatherfield as a woman of taste and quality. She doesn't want to be associated with sausages but Fred points out that all her constituents buy them and the Gazette are running a feature... with a top photographer. Now she's interested.

At the bar, Geena talks to Ryan but gets little response and he wanders off. She asks Linda about Adam, who says he's plain sailing after her brothers. Alma assures Ken that Deirdre will be back. Peter thinks he won't miss her but Alma rider over that one. She's a good wife and a loyal friend. Peter disagrees and cites how she was laughing this morning. How long has she been giving Dev the eye? Her face lights up at the sight of him. Alma tells him to talk sense but Ken is taking all this in and clearly moving to Peter's point of view.

Dr. Mathew talks to Adam about the shock of the accident. Has he lost weight? Sleeping well? Not really, he lies awake and thinks of his mum. He likes being with Mike and Linda but Grandad's upset. He's been great and he like Deirdre. (He's very aware of the conflict between Mike and Ken). Mathew assures Adam that Ken won't blame him for choosing Mike but Adam relates the incident outside. He doesn't think Ken wants to speak to him when he's with Mike. The doctor assures him that that's their problem and it will settle down soon. (Let's hope he goes and knocks their heads together).

Blanche arrives at Dev's You're floating around in this showhouse with your dream man while your marriage is falling on its face (overriding Deirdre's protests that she's not married). She thinks Deirdre should be grateful that Ken still wants her and run home as fast as she can. (Her view of course is that a woman needs a man and Deirdre's getting too old to find another one). Ken needs emotional support and Deirdre left because she can't be bothered to give it to him. Deirdre says she needs emotional support too but Blanche says she hasn't got a dead daughter and a grandson snatched away. Deirdre has tried but Ken puts his own interests first regardless of others. She's not going back. In fact, her and Ken are finished.

Interval

Blanche plays the age card again. Men don't grown on trees and any still unattached at this stage are somewhat suspect. Even Dev prefers a younger model. Deirdre is not here because of Dev. It's because Ken ignores her. He doesn't listen and everything he does is to prove something to the court. He just wants to beat Mike and he won't use her to do it. Blanche leaves.

Mike arrives in the Rovers. He still won't have a meeting with Duggie and cites family responsibilities.

Edna wonders why she wasn't chosen as a sausage judge. Fred needs pillars of the community. There'll be another two judges with Audrey. Toyah finds all this banging on about sausages disgusting. Can't they talk about something else? Fred says she wouldn't know good food if it flashed its big brown eyes at her over the top of a five-barred gate.

Alma turns up at Ken's. Is he aright? She thinks he shouldn't listen to Peter. Ken knows Deirdre hasn't left him for another man, but because all his relationships fail. People arrive and then go. What about Adam and Peter? Adam's with Mike and Peter will leave soon. Deirdre knows that. Alma says he's upset. Ken thinks she doesn't want an empty shell of a man and he doesn't' blame her.

Adam has come back from school .He doesn't like it but really enjoyed his old one. Mike tells Linda he wants to send him somewhere else. How about Oakfield Grammar? Isnt't it great, discussing your son's education?

Fred enrols Dr. Mathew as another judge. Toyah suggest a real sausage lover would be someone fat and greasy (looking at Fred). Duggie arrives with the books. Ryan bumps into Emma. He tries to apologise, for the other day too, but she tells him to forget it. Fred doesn't really want to do the books. What about next week? The sausage contest is his top priority now. Duggie gets angry, then stops. He's had enough. He has the whole burden of running the Rovers and wants the partnership dissolved.

Back at Ken's, he's reflecting on his children. He gave away Susan, Peter and Daniel. He only has a relationship with Tracey. And Susan thought so little of him she didn't tell him he had a grandson. Alma says she was only secretive because he and Mike were in the same town. And now he's let her down as Mike has Adam which she didn't want. Alma says it's only temporary but Ken is in full self-pitying flow and doesn't think he'd be any good to Adam anyway. Alma says that as a teenager, Ken will be the one he turns to during conflicts with Mike.

Blanche returns. She takes in the situation and we can see she's thinking that Alma is jumping in now Ken is free.

Dev is getting ready to leave the flat. But Geena calls on the mobile to cancel (food-poisoning/stomach bug, classic excuse). We guess she's not happy at Deirdre still being there. She however is delighted and jumps into the kitchen to start cooking a meal. She seems more than happy to be in a domestic situation with Dev.

Friday 16 March

In the corner shop, Dev has to answer an emergency plea from the branch of the Desai shop in Swinton. He leaves Deirdre to man the fort but as he goes to leave, Peter Barlow comes in. He takes offence to Deirdre's remark about cooking dinner for Dev that evening. He says it was all a ploy by Dev and Deirdre all along, Dev asks Peter to leave. Peter throws forty pounds at Dev and tells him he is leaving the flat.

In the Caf, Sam is spending his lunch hour with the Platts. Gail notices how happy the children are now that Sam is around.

In the Rovers, Fred asks Duggie if it is true that Duggie wants out of the partnership. Duggie says it is and that he will buy Mike and Fred out (where has he got the money from? - Phil.) Instead Duggie suggests he could sell his share..

At the bar, in front of Vik, Steve and Karen share a bit of tonsil-hockey. Eileen tells Vik to ignore them.

At the Shop, Deirdre is having her lunch when Blanche comes in. Blanche says that Ken is ready to throw her out.

Mike tells Linda that he has found a nice boarding school for Adam. It has it's own swimming pool!

Ken meets with the welfare officer. Ken though has had a change of heart and no longer seems to care. When the officer has gone, Peter demands to know why he has changed from the man he knew when he arrived. Ken says that he has lost his daughter, grandson and new his partner but Peter says that he is not bothering anymore and that he has let his family down. When Peter leaves, Alma comes in and to try and perk Ken up, takes him out.

At the Platt house, David is searching for some cleaner to clean the car which is going in for it's M.O.T. Sam thanks Gail for letting him stay and for the meals, Gail says he is welcome any time he wants.

Ken and Alma arrive in a country pub. They have walked to it and are soaking wet from the storm outside. Ken orders some drinks and the two get talking. Ken tells Alma about what happened with Adam and Mike. He says that he got talking to Mike during the siege at Freshcos and that Mike said that Linda had slept with Mark. Alma says that Mark told her the same thing (these seem to be the only two characters apart from Mike, Linda and Mark so I am betting it will come out soon - Phil.) Ken says that the whole thing wouldn't have happened if Mike hadn't bullied Susan.

At Dev's, Dev is on the phone while Deirdre prepares a casserole for dinner. He says that it is gorgeous. The two sit down for dinner, Deirdre asks Dev about Geena, Dev says that she is just jealous.

Back at the pub, Ken and Alma have had a meal. Ken says he has enjoyed the meal, Alma says that he should be doing this to Deirdre but Ken says that Deirdre let him down when he needed her the most. Alma thinks that Ken doesn't have the full picture. Ken asks about Alma and Frank, Alma reluctantly reveals that Frank has returned to Shropshire and she says he prefers to be on his own.

At the Rovers, Edna gets Molly to offer her the job as cleaner at the Medical Centre. Edna agrees but only on a trial period to see if she likes working there!!

At the country pub, Ken and Alma say their goodbyes with a hug..

At Dev's, the meal has finished and the wine is out. Dev asks Deirdre what she sees in a man, Dev says that the whole procedure of man and woman is very complicated, he runs through the list of things that the man isn't supposed to do. This list that Dev comes out with makes Deirdre laugh. The two retire into the sitting room (with Everloving by Moby on the stereo poppickers!!). Dev tells Deirdre that he frequently has this dream of his dream wife only she doesn't have a face. Deirdre tells Dev that he is really special and then leans forward and kisses him!! Dev resists her advcances though and soul-destroyingly to Deirdre, starts to clear the room up as the show ends.

Sunday 18 March

Late this week - an over filled filling in my tooth has been giving me paid all week and I could not face the update last night. A visit to the dentist this morning has I hope put things right and I can now bring you all up to date.

We are still an updater short for Monday evenings - anyone fancy taking on the mantle please?

This evening's episode was sponsored by Cadbury's Roses.

Written by Peter Whalley, directed by Tony Prescott

Dev finds Deirdre in his flat feeling pretty stupid after grabbing Dev. She apologises and says she will move out. Dev tells her not to go but she is determined. She walks to work as she needs the fresh air.

Jason is discussing his next event with Dennis. Eileen arrives downstairs, moans at Dennis for not making her any tea and then complains to Jason about the lack of rent - Dennis reckons Jason will do well in Lancaster. She is not enamoured with his sporting activities - the most he can achieve is to get to the front of the dole queue.

At the Quays Mike is going to deliver Adam to Ken for the day. Mike does not want Adam discussing schooling with Ken and despite Linda telling him to say nothing he still gives Adam an earful. I wonder when Adam will get the measure of Mike and hit him again?

At the butchers Martin and Ken exchange pleasantries and Martin asks for a single chop. Outside Ken meets Alma and invites her around this evening for a drink to make up for their previous excursion.

Along the Street Sam has finished rebuilding his car and Kev is checking it over prior to an MOT. Sarah and Candice look on - Sarah makes it clear that she fancies a journey in the babe magnet.

Dev arrives at the shop and finds Dreary still looking for a flat. Dreary tells Dev that she feels that he is trying to sweep her off her feet - it is simply the way he looks at her - he apologises - and she knows he does not mean it - it is the way he is - but they agree to be friends. Dev is not willing to rent her the flat upstairs. Blanche arrives and informs Dreary that Ken is heartbroken. Blanche tells Dreary that she should come home to number one - go in the front room and pretend it is a flat. Blanche feels she will end up feeling very lonely like she used to feel before Ken and Dreary took her in.

At number one Adam is being dropped off. Mike reminds Ken of the collection time quite needlessly in a pointed fashion. Blanche returns and tells Ken and Mike about Deirdre looking for a flat - Ken should get down the end of the road and drag her back by her hair. Blanche observes to Mike that Ken is as pig-headed as Dreary. "Worse I should say" says Mike ;-)). Blanche rushes to greet Adam who is bemused at the welcome.

Mike and Fred meet at the bar of the Rovers and they want a word before meeting Duggie - ownership of the pub is again up for discussion (and just when and how did Linda get out of being the bar manager? I remember the appointment but the scriptwriters appear to have omitted her removal). Edna the cleaner wanders past and tells Fred that young Ashley's competition sausages are just great - and will he please ensure that he passes on the message because Ash particularly wanted to know her views.

Vik finds Eileen and Dennis in the Rovers - he wants to find some paperwork. Vik departs and Dennis and Eileen start thinking he needs a new girlfriend. Bobbi is at the bar and is unhappy as she is off to spend the evening alone. Geena and Eileen start thinking.

Fred, Duggie and Mike gather to talk business and Duggie wants out because he is tired of having to carry the can. Duggie wants the same as he paid - 20k - 10k each. Mike offers 12k - 6k each. Duggie considers this an insult and storms out. Fred tries to call him back but Mike tells him to let Duggie go - he is bound to be back.

After the interval Fred and Mike discuss the purchase. Fred does not want to go to far. Fred is prepared to pay the 20k. Duggie returns almost immediately - he is prepared to take a loss - but not that much. Mike points out that pubs are closing in the town. Mike reckons that 14k is reasonable. Duggie agrees to think about it. Mike reckons that they will settle at 15k, maybe 14.5k.

Dev arrives to a friendly greeting from Geena and she asks him if Bobbi will be suitable for Vik, after asking if Dreary has gone. Dev does not tell Geena about Dreary attacking him and they start discussing Bobbi and Vik.

Kev has gone over Sam's car and it has passed the MOT. Candice and Sarah have bought a present for the car - something which David rubbishes but Candice, Sarah and David all want a ride. Martin has been observing this and he is unhappy with the time the boy has been spending with Sam.

Geena pops into the back on her break and she discusses how busy they have been with Duggie. Neither of them are aware of any local pubs closing as Mike and Fred inferred and she agrees that if anything in recent weeks there have been good days and bad days. Duggie is of the same opinion and he is clearly hatching a plan. (Hint - if Mike and Fred are happy to buy a third for 14k then, theoretically they should be prepared to sell for 28k and yet the total is worth more than 42k - so can Duggie make a profit?).

Peter and Ken are with Adam in the kitchen. Adam has seen some of the sights of Weatherfield. Adam does not look overly happy with his day as Mike is knocking on the front door.

Dennis and Eileen are sitting in front of the tv when Jason returns - he has won his race and Dennis is ecstatic and wants to go out to celebrate. Eileen refuses to say much more than simple "well done". She has other things on her mind - she tells Dennis of the intention to get Bobbi and Vik together - some people need to have their lives guided - after all where would Dennis be without some guidance to his life - still living in a caravan? (Where are the Battersbys by the way have they left the Street).

At the Rovers Dev arrives - when is he meeting Geena? Later she says. Has Dreary gone she asks? No says Dev - someone else got there first - and he refuses to explain why she cannot have the flat over the shop (I suspect to force her to return to Ken personally). As Dev departs he tells Vik, who arrives with Eileen to be careful, although he will not say why. Eileen buys Vik a drink. They sit down. Vik cannot understand what he is doing there and Bobbi has not yet arrived.

Fred arrives to buy Ash a drink and he does not want to fall out with Ash. Edna wanders over and tells Ash herself how good the sausages were. Ash tells Fred he is jealous - and he wants to win fair and square.

Alma has arrived and Ken offers a drink. She accepts and he opens a bottle of *red* wine. Ken is aware that Dreary is looking for a flat - things are obviously over between him and Mrs Rachid. Ken reminds Alma that things could have been so different - she could have been with him and not Mike - when they nearly spent the rest of their lives together. He asks if she ever thought about it - perhaps they still could be.

At the Rovers Eileen asks Vik if he has ever fancied Bobbi. Bobbi arrives at the bar and Geena tells her that she can expect an approach from Vik. If she does not want a drink she should go now. Vik arrives and asks Bobbi if she would like a drink. Because you have been told to buy me one? she asks. He responds no, he has fancied her for a long time but did not think he had a chance - and he actually sounds as if he means it. She is flattered and smiles delightfully, accepting the drink. Big smiles all round.

Duggie wanders out and tells Fred that he may be right - it is quiet. Fred stammers over his answer. Duggie wants to get in a professional valuer and he will pay - Mike and Fred might well be right - losing money hand over fist is no fun. If the valuer agrees then they have got a deal.

Back at the Barlows Ken has his arm along the back of the sofa behind Alma. Ken snuggles up closed and they kiss when Peter arrives and they split. Peter leaves them to it. Ken is sure he will not gossip - Alma is not so sure.

And that was that.

Monday 19 March

Vik is unusually cheerful when Steve tells him that Karen is in the bathroom.

Ken tells Peter that Alma is an old friend, and he asks Peter not to tell anyone about them kissing last night. Peter says he is not out to make trouble.

Sarah is late for school. Sam offers to drive her in.

Fred tells Mike that Duggie is having a valuer in. He is not happpy.

In the corner shop Eileen asks Steve if Bobbie stayed overnight with Vik.

Duggie tells Mike and Fred that the valuer came in early. He says that the offer was a bit low, but acceptable. Duggie wants to tie up some loose ends to make sure it is all legal.

Adam is miserable. His old school are going on a ski trip and he can't go.

Curly comes home and surprises Emma.

Sarah tells Candice that she got a lift, she is thrilled.

Blanche is unhappy staying with Ken and Peter. Blanche is trying to persuade Deidre to return before it is too late.

Ken confirms to Alma that Peter won't be saying anything.

Mike and Fred are suspicious about the valuer.

Linda tells Mike that Adam is unhappy. He says there is nothing he can do.

Blanche tells Curly that Charlie stayed with Emma while he was away. Blanche thinks if a policewoman needs someone to stay with her, there is not much hope for other single women.

Ashley refuses to serve Fred sausages until the end of the competition. Fred enlists the help of David to buy the sausages. David drives a high bargain, and refuses to do it for less than a quid.

Fred tries again to buy the sausages. Ashley says he will sell them, becuase Fred would not guess the ingredients. He says they come from Saltzburg.

Alma chats to Deidre about the breakup of her and Ken. Deidre says she doesn't want to break up a long term relationship. She thinks she may have made her point. Alma suggests she goes round to talk to him again. Deidre tells Dev that she is going round to Ken with the intention of patching things up.

Duggie, Fred and Mike have a meeting. Mike is suspicious of why Duggie has made enquiries. Duggie confesses that the pub trade has changed. Theme pubs etc. They think that if Duggie is out, because he is has done his homework, they ought to be out as well. They will put the pub back on the market.

Curly confronts Emma why Charlie stayed. Also why Danny had to repair a window. She tells him what happened. Curly is annoyed.

Gina and Dev getting on well being alone in the house. Dev gets a phone call that they are short in one of the shops and he has to go out.

Deidre comes round to Ken. She says she has had time to think, and maybe they are being silly. Ken is very hesitant. He says he will think about it.

Wednesday 21 March

Geena meets Dev in the kitchen. She has a go at him for letting Deirdre still be there, who then walks into the fight. She apologises for her return, and is upset that Ken doesn't want her. She thinks she got what she deserved.

Alma meets Ken in the street. He tells her that Deirdre turned up last night and tried for a reconciliation. He's had enough of her games and it's not just about the two of them now. He's all smiles and acting as if he and Deirdre are over and he's already a couple with Alma. She's a bit unsure and asks to meet him later to discuss it properly.

David is in the garage, pestering Sam for rides in the car. He thinks Martin's car is dead boring. Why doesn't Sam come for tea, he's fed up of being the only lad.

Steve drops off Karen who sees Bobbi. She says she's taking her time over Vik. Ryan arrives and tells Karen Liam is missing her in prison.

Curly and Emma are arguing about Ryan. He's all for challenging him in the street but she drags him away and tells him no to do anything. She's sick of talking about it.

Duggie sees Toyah in the café and comments about her two jobs. She knows they're selling up and asks for plenty of notice. Adam is also there with Mike and Linda. He's low because the rest of his class are skiing now. Mike thinks all he needs do is buy him some computer games but Linda's experience with her brothers means she knows he needs to be up and about.

Fred is short-staffed at Freshco and asks for Boris to help out. Ash suspects he wants him to help with Fred's sausage recipe.

We hear crashes above the shop. Dev says he has workmen in. David bumps into Sarah and asks for money. She's doing shopping for sandwiches. He makes her drop the basket and swipes a book from her bag in the confusion.

Dev goes into the Rovers and gets a big beam from Geena. She's got tickets for a gig in town tonight as an apology for this morning. But he says he has a family do and is obligated to go. She's not impressed. That means she will be in the flat tonight so Bobbi suggests they go round to Vik's instead. Curly meets Mat and talks to him about the Ryan incident. Mat starts talking about the break-in and it's clear Curly only knew about the window til now.

The book David pinched is Sarah's diary. He finds an entry about Sexy Sam and how he touched her knee while changing gear.

Curly storms up the street and attacks Ryan. Mat and Karen hold him back and Emma arrives (out of nowhere). He's very upset that everyone else knows the full story except him, her husband. Is that the way their marriage is going to be?

Interval

David goes to the garage and asks Sam if he's seeing Sarah now. Sam tells David Sarah's diary is private but then reads it. He tells David it's just a crush and sometimes girls make stuff up. He assures him there's nothing in it and he should put the diary back and forget about it.

Ken and Alma are back in the county pub. Alma tells him she persuaded Deirdre to meet him last night and that Deirdre is desperate for them to get back together. Ken thinks Alma is incredible, she's putting Deirdre's feelings ahead of her own happiness (what arrogance!). She thinks Ken and Deirdre were meant to be together. Ken though sees it as Alma who was there for him and he won't walk away while he thinks there's a chance of a future for them.

Curly is angry at Emma. Whey didn't she report Ryan's break-in? Emma tries to explain but Curly wants him behind bars. She thinks he can't handle the fact that she sorted it out herself. He's trying to act the hard man and she doesn't lie it.

Mike breezes into the Rovers and tells Linda he's booked a fortnight in Florida. She points out that Adam has only just started at his new school. It's only for 2 weeks and then he'll be back here with no friends. What he really wants is to go back to school in Glasgow.

Vik asks Steve to be out of the flat tonight as Bobbi is really up for it. But Steve had already planned to be in and thinks she's having him on. He refuses.

Ryan has another go at Karen. Liam is inside and she's putting it about. Karen tells him again that she's finished with Liam. He's a loser and she's well rid.

Curly has calmed down. He tells Emma he loves her and was so angry when he heard what Ryan did. She knows that, but she wants him to show more understanding. She reminds him of the night with Dean. Curly thought he was getting through to him. She knows she had to shoot him, but with Ryan there were no guns and she could leave it as it stands. She promises to report him if anything happens in future. They agree: no more secrets.

Alma and Ken leave the pub. She tells him that Deirdre was standing up for what she thought was right? Ken wonders why Alma is pushing him back to Deirdre? Alma can't deny she still has feelings for Ken but she believes in his heart he really wants Deirdre.

Mike and Linda are still discussing Adam when he arrive. School was alright. How would he like to go to Orlando? Huge smiles. Linda thinks the lads should go alone, it will give them a better chance to bond. Mike finally agrees. We know she really wants to keep an eye on Ryan.

It's the Platts teatime. David pops the diary back into Sarah's bag without her noticing. Sam is there too and David makes a comment about not wanting to accidentally touch someone's leg. Sam makes an excuse and leaves. Sarah suspects.

Duggie tells Fred he has someone interested in the pub. Boris tells Ash he didn't crack under Fred's interrogation. Bobbi arrives ready for her date. Vik tells her Steve is in the flat so they go to the one above the shop instead.

Ken meets Deirdre outside the shop. He tells her he was a bit hasty last night. He wants to try and put things right. She can't see how as they'll never agree on this point. But he remembers what they've been through before. Surely this can't be any worse. Please come home.

Vik and Bobbi hear some noises and enter the flat. Someone calls out to them from the shower. Is that you Dev? Thanks for last night, you were amazing. The two look at each other horrified. Vik says what we're all thinking: it looks like Dev has a bit on the side.

Friday 23 March

It's the Grimshaw house then to start with, (I've been getting into Grange Hill recently when I've come home from work and the next time Coronation Street needs some younger stars, the producers could do no wrong then to poach a few of them from the BBC instead of the pair they've got here..) Jason has got a letter saying that he has been invited to a training camp in Lanzarote. The downside is that it will cost 500 to go and surprise surprise.. neither he or mother Eileen have 500 going spare..

Deirdre who has moved back in with Ken leaves no.1 to go to work. Peter appears and wonders why Deirdre is back. Ken says that it is time he and Deirdre put their troubles behind them. Peter says he'll be out of the way soon. A car pulls up, it's Mike with the news that he is taking Adam to Orlando for a holiday.. Ken quips that Mike is buying into the boy but Mike says that if he gets the boy to smile through him spending money then that's what he'll do.

At the Butchers, Maxine drops in and complains to Ashley that he missed her "most fertile time of the month!"

At the corner shop, Emma tells Curly that she feels guilty for getting the Ramsdens involved in her troubles and suggests that they invite them to Sunday lunch. Curly agrees and in the end agrees to cook! Dev comes in and teases Deirdre about her not coming back to Dev's last night. Deirdre tells him that her and Ken are back together. Dev is (unsurprisingly) very pleased and says they will arrange something for her to pick up her clothes that are still at Dev's.

Mike, Fred and Duggie meet together in the Rovers for the first time in ages. A representitive has come to look at the pubs and to possibly buy Mike and Fred's shares. Fred and Mike ask for more details about the man and assure him that The Rovers is a goldmine which raises a wry smile from Duggie.

In the shop, Todd tells Jason to ask his dad (an electrician) for the 500 he needs. Jason says that all the money his dad makes is spent on beer and says he should go and look for work to raise some money.

Back at the Rovers, the potential buyer likes what he sees and tells Mike and Fred that they will hear from him soon.

In the shop, Ken tells Deirdre about Mike taking Adam on holiday. Deirdre says it's a good idea and that him and Adam will have the chance to get to know one another. Ken thanks Dev for taking care of Deirdre who suggests that Deirdre should leave a nightbag at his just in case!

In the Rovers, the mystery about Dev and another woman hasn't been solved and Bobbi tells Vik that unless he tries to find out whats been happening then she'll tell Geena.

In the factory, Adam shows Mike some of the clothes that he has bought on a shopping trip with Linda. Adam suggests that they make a schedule for the trip. Ken comes in and compliments Adam's new gear. Ken points out to Mike that Adam seems excited about the trip. He reminds Mike that money isn't the way to win him through but Mike says that Adam deserves it after what he has been through. Ken says that it is important to know when to draw the line to which Mike agrees. Ken tells Mike not to let him down and Mike says he just wants Adam to be happy..

Emma invites the Ramsdens around to Sunday lunch. Charlie says that if there is food there than Matt will be around! Maxine comes in and bumps into Curly, on his way to the bar. She sits down and when Emma asks where Ashley is she says that she wouldn't recognise him if she fell over him. Emma invites her around to Sunday lunch which raises a smile which goes as soon as Emma says Matt and Charlie will be there too!

Ken and Peter return from Peter's flat-hunting expedition without much luck. Peter says that he and Ken should be the ones getting a flat but Ken says that he and Deirdre belong together and that he would appreciate it if Peter didn't mention what he saw between him and Alma.

Dev comes out of the shop, grabs some flowers and turns the corner towards his flat. Bobbi has seen what is going on and looks around the corner to see what he is doing. She sees Dev presenting the flowers to whomever is in the flat..

Ashley, Fred and Boris come into the Rovers, it seems that Boris has been forced to spend the afternoon with Fred. Ashley questions Boris's loyalty but Boris says he had to do it because Fred pays his wages. Ashley asks what Fred's sausage mixture is like (ho-ho), and Boris assures Ashley that it isn't as good as theirs (ho-ho) (God this storyline is awful.. - Phil.)

Bobbi returns into the Rovers and tells Geena that Dev is cheating on her. (Although she still assuming this..)

Eileen, Todd and Jason sit around the TV. Jason still hasn't found the 500 for his trip to Lanzarote. Eileen says that if she had the money she'd give it to him. Todd and Jason though say that the only thing she's interested in is her boyfriends..

Geena bangs on Dev's flat door. A fed-up Dev answers the door and tries to get the near-hysterical Geena to calm down. Dev suggests that she comes in and sees the "woman" for herself. The woman appears behind Dev (and it's her from <insert one of many programmes from the last few years here>!!) and asks what us going on. Geena sees her and gives Dev a right hand across his cheek before storming off into the night..

Review by Phil Spink

Sunday 25 March

Almost forgot about the hour advance in our clocks last night - however the new video recorder seems to have coped with it, without being told - clever that. Anyway despite the bad news in our house this week we also had some good news - and sadly both are embargoed for a few weeks. So on with the show:

Mothers' Day episode of Coronation Street, sponsored by Cadbury's.

Written by Julie Geary and Directed by Graham Wetherell.

There are a number of themes this evening and so I will handle this way.

Jason still wants to go to Lanzarote on a training course. Eileen does not have the money and is giving him no support. She does not want him to waste his life. Dennis reckons she should show some encouragement. Later Dennis offers to make his money from the bike available. Eileen reckons the boy's own father should help (not a chance).

Ashley is trying various recipes for sausages and Max wants him back in bed - sadly not. Curly is cooking for Emma, Ash, Max, Matt and Charlie. He refuses to let her help. When they arrive Ash tells them he has been making sausages. Sadly Curly has not turned the oven up and the meat is undercooked. Nut roast all round. Ash departs to get his sausages - they must have meat for Sunday lunch. Later we witness the great sausage tasting. There is general agreement on the best one but Ashley is unhappy. He is upset and admits in the kitchen to Max that the best one is vegetarian made specially for her.

Martin has David for the day so Sam is not getting any help - although Martin's activity plans are unexciting. Gail, Audrey and Sarah (and baby, Bethany, who has two alter egos already) declare the Platt household man free. Audrey makes it clear that she would fancy like to get Sam to tweak her points! Sam pops in later when he has finished and Audrey is disappointed to note that his intentions towards Gail have been entirely honourable. Sarah is cooking lasagne and invites Sam to stay - but he has to see his mother (obviously relations are on the mend). Sarah is disappointed when he departs.

David is bored and tells Martin about the contents of Sarah's diary and her feelings towards Sam. Sam told him not tell people about the diary - Martin checks this and believes it is confirmation that Sam is playing around with Sarah. Martin rushes to Platt household and accuses Sarah. She denies everything (and of course nothing happened). David arrives quoting the diary but is sent back upstairs. Martin goes off to find Sam.

Martin, Gail, Sarah, Sam and Audrey shout at each other. Sarah simply says it was her diary and it is private. Sam calls them all disgusting and departs.

Dev meets Geena and Bobbi in the Street but she refuses to listen to his explanations over the occupant of the flat over the shop. Later at the back of the Rovers Toyah is trying to prevent him getting to Geena and he asks Geena to call off her minders. Toyah relents and Geena has to listen to Dev. She reminds him that she had a warning from Natalie about his treatment of women. He denies cheating on her and he admits that Sunita Parekh is occupying the flat. He grabs and drags down the Street. Vik notices the commotion and the three of them go to the flat together.

In the flat introductions are undertaken. (Sunita is an escapee from the Blue Line and Dinner Ladies). Sunita is supposed to be going to India for an arranged marriage but she does not want to go and Dev, who employs her has helped to hide her. Explanations over Vik cannot believe that Dev is a hero - and he should not expect help when the machetes come out. Sunita knows it is going to turn nasty. Dev warns Vik to keep his mouth shut tight and his eyes open.

Later Geena comes into the shop and tells Dev that it is all over. He lies too well - he kept a secret and she cannot trust him because of that.

At the Rovers Mike is trying to get an upgrade on his flight (sadly few charter companies have anything other than cattle class). Mike, Fred and Duggie are waiting visitors. Various bods are turning up to buy the Rovers and when they arrive Mike asks for 18k each instead of 14.5k. There is some debate in the backroom but eventually Duggie nods at one of the solicitors and the deal is agreed. Then the papers are signed and Duggie is revealed as the majority investor in Hamilton-Griffith.

Fred is disappointed to realise that he has been done - after all they each paid 20k and they are only getting 18k. Mike threatens action and perhaps thinking that there are more important things in life (and he admits he took his eye off the ball) accepts that Duggie has been clever and with a smile departs to collect Adam from Ken's. Mike, Adam and Linda are off to Florida for a holiday - theme park madness for a few days. Sharp practice - but nothing illegal. Fred calls Duggie a shark and charlatan. Toyah reckons the three of them have been rubbish bosses and tells Duggie who tells her in return that he is the new boss.

And I should be back next week, I hope.

Monday 26 March

Duggie tells Toyah that his Dad was a publican. He tells her everything will be ok provided she behaves herself.

Martin offers to take Sarah and Martin to school. Neither wants to go with him. Gail says it is his fault that Sarah cried herself to sleep last night. She is certain there is nothing in it. Martin is not so sure. Sarah tells her mum to agree with him.

Vik bangs on Dev's shop door. First thought it was the father of Sunita.

Jason is desparately looking for work. Dennis tells him they are already overstaffed in the garage.

Martin not to go near Sam again. She says she doesn't want to see him again. Gail is convinced it was just a crush.

Duggie tells the girls in the pub, that they now have only one boss. He appoints Gina as boss in his absence.

Dev tells Sunita to speak to her mum and dad. She says she has already tried to no avail.

Vik tells Bobbie in the pub that Sunita is just a whinging girl. He says there is no problem.

Duggie invites Fred for a drink to show no hard feelings. Fred says he won't spend another penny in pub, and says the final of the sausage competition will no longer take place in the Rovers.

Ken apologises to Alma for messing her around. He thanks her for her advice.

Jason asks Dennis if he can lend him money. He says he can't.

Sam comes into the cafe and Martin starts accusing him again in front of Kevin. They start fighting. Sam gets the better of Martin.

Deidre says she is going over to one of Dev's shops that Sunita hasn't turned up. Dev tells her that she is off because of personal problems.

Kevin and Martin talk about Sam. Kevin thinks Sam is ok.

Gina thought Dev was going to tell Deidre about Sunita. He thinks that she is ok from her parents, but she believes otherwise.

Audrey wants to know Alma and Ken were talking about. She says they were having a friendly chat. She says she hasn't been so close to Ken for years.

Candice is surprised that Sarah doesn't want to speak about Sam anymore.

Jason says he is going to start cleaning cars to raise money.

Gail and Sally talk about Sam. Gail says she wants to believe it is just a crush. Sally agrees that is all it probably is.

Duggie joins Linda in the cafe. She warns him that Mike maybe spending time in the theme park, but he hates being taken for a ride.

Bobbie and Gina go round to chat to Sunita. They tell her that Dev thinks there is nothing to worry about. She says he would, because he is a bloke. Sunita tells them that she was previously with a boyfriend, she thought he was the one, but he changed and she left him. This is why she is worried about getting married, particularly as she would have to live in India.

Sarah is burning the pages from her diary. Gail comforts her. Sarah thinks that Martin thinks that she is a slag. She is trying to show Sarah both points of view. Gail says that he is trying to protect her. Sarah says she thinks Gail wants happy families, but Sarah says it can't be.

Wednesday 28 March

David asks Sam to watch the football with him but gets turned down. Todd reminds Dennis to ask Kevin about washing cards. He then asks Vik who agrees to let him do the taxis at Streetcars for a tenner. Candice asks David where Sarah is. He says she's embarrassed because it came out she made the whole Sam story up. They exchange insults.

Norris asks Linda if she and Mike will be completing their census forms. She looks blank. Fred hasn't heard of it either. He tells Norris the final of the sausage trail will now be held in Roy's Rolls, though it's clear Roy doesn't know this yet.

Vik jokes again about Sunita's family attacking Dev. He can't make him understand how serious this is. Deirdre overhears and wants to know what's going on. She's the one who's having to find cover for the Swinton shop. She wonders how she'll handle hordes of angry relatives on the doorstep but says she can keep a secret. (I wonder).

Gail bumps into Sam and apologises. She knows there was nothing going on and is sorry she didn't believe him earlier. Sam accepts this but think it's better for him to keep his distance and will be moving the car from their garage.

At the Rovers, Toyah asks Duggie to cut her hours. She needs to revise for her exams. Tyrone and Maria discuss their savings. They're not planning on having a flash wedding but are still way too short. Peter buys Duggie a drink for putting one over on Baldwin. How much was it? Well, he'll be having one less exotic holiday this year.

Candice and Sarah are in the café. She has a go at her for not telling the truth about Sam. Sarah defends herself: there's nothing going on in her life and she's reduced to making it up. Martin enters, but all he can say is: shouldn't you be at school?

Todd has done a great job of the taxis but is somewhat deflated to hear the four he's done are the whole fleet. He asks Kevin if he'll let him wash customers' cars, an extra service, but Kevin thinks there's no room for it and turns him down. Martin's offer of a lift to the girls at the bus-stop is also rejected.

An Indian couple arrive in the shop asking for Dev. They're looking for their daughter and ask to wait. Deirdre looks concerned. (Oh dear!)

Interval

Vik tries to arrange a date with Bobbi but she's busy.

Dev arrives at the shop and denies all knowledge. They believe him and go. Deirdre is not happy. They were very worried. Dev says it's an act and Sunita told him they would behave that way. But this is a mother. She has a right to know her daughter's safe, just like Mike and his son.

Martin was supposed to be at David's match but he's over at the house. He's worried about Sarah and doesn't know how to make it up. (Maybe believing her? I remember Martin as being very understanding with the kids. I can't believe he doesn't see it was just a crush and had no foundation. Personality transplant fairy ahoy?) He still thinks Sam was up to something and blames Gail for not noticing. Too busy with her new job. First Glen and now this.

Dev tells the latest to Sunita. She thinks her parents must have a clue and it would be better to move. But the wedding is set for Sunday and after that it will be too late. Dev persuades her to stay a few more days.

Maria and Tyrone have moved their financial discussion to the café. They agree to start walking more to save money on petrol, but it will only make a small difference. Maria wants a proper wedding. Fred breezes in and invites Roy to hold the sausage contest there. Roy isn't keen. Maybe if it was for charity....Fred offers to send some sausages and chops to the local food run and Roy is won over. Far too easy.

Martin runs after Sarah, who's been ignoring him. He half apologises, ie Sarah will understand how he feels when an older man is sniffing round Bethany. Sarah puts him straight. Just because he doesn't have a life doesn't mean he can stick his nose in hers. He's humiliated her and they'd all be a lot happier if he'd gone off with Rebecca.

Round at Dev's flat the girls are massing. Linda arrives out of the blue with a bottle of wine. Sunita tells her the story.

Todd has been washing car windows in the street and has made £6. Dennis encourages him to go into town tomorrow but he's disillusioned. He'll never make it at this rate. Dennis offers him £300 if he makes up the rest....and doesn't tell his mum.

The girls night is in full swing. Linda didn't think arranged marriages still happened. Sunita's brother married an English girl and it was a disaster. Her parents were keen for her to do it the traditional way and it sounded OK at first. But then she got scared. Linda wouldn't have minded. If her parents had found her a rich husband it would have saved her the trouble of chasing Mike. OK, if you could marry anyone, who would it be? Geena would have Roy Keane. She thinks Leonardo de Caprio has a face like a brussel sprout. Sunita doesn't want much. Just someone talk, dark and handsome, successful and romantic. Sound like anyone we know?

Phil, Duggie's old evicted lodger, goes into the Rovers to talk to Toyah. He thinks he can sue Duggie for defamation of character, and sees Toyah as his star witness, as she knows the whole story. She's not sure and while they're discussing it, Duggie sees him and throws him out of his pub. Phil sees the whole story. Toyah won't help him now and bite the hand that feeds her. We're left wondering whether she will.

Friday 30 March

Events in Weatherfield are courtesy of ITV Television and are sponsored by Cadburys' Roses.

Written by Nick Doughty, directed by David Kester.

Sunita is in bed when Dev arrives. She is getting worn down by being shut away. She likes Geena and congratulates Dev on his choice. Dev tells Sunita to stop worrying. However little can re-assure her and she is worried by the number of people who know where she is. Outside the flat another person parks up.

Sam arrives at the Platt's garage as he is going to move his car. David asks what is going on but Sam says it is for the best. Martin wanders past and exchanges glances with Gail.

Duggie has a new shift rota for the Rovers - he has given Toyah more shifts rather than less. Toyah knows Duggie is getting revenge for hew talking to Phil. She has no choice but to agree to the shifts.

Tyrone and Ryan bump into each other. Tyrone has received a letter saying he has won a prize. Ryan knows it is a con. Ryan notes the absence of a stereo in Tyrone's car and comments on it.

In the Street Sarah meets Sam - they will see each other around.

Ash finds Boris at Fred's shop. Ash needs help to improve the recipe and Fred is expecting to be crowned as King of the Sausage. Boris is not going to be released.

Deirdre has made some food for Sunita without mentioning names but the mystery parker (see above) is now a mystery shopper and when challenged by Dev he departs - but he must have overhead Dreary and knows that there is a woman around.

Gail is bringing Audrey up to date on events with Martin etc. Audrey does not understand Martin but Gail reckons that Martin is feeling guilty because he is not spending enough time with the children. Anyway Gail reckon that the job is nothing to do with it - it makes her feel good. Gail then turns to Sarah and says she is glad that she has patched things up with Sam. Outside the hair salon Fred reminds Councillor Audrey in her new role of sausage trail judge of who her real friends are - important when making her decision.

Toyah has explained to Roy that she has to do less shifts and while he is unhappy he accepts the necessity of agreeing. Peter overhears in the background that the Rovers is short of staff. Matt arrives and orders a most unhealthy lunch. Roy remonstrates with him - they are Fred's sausages but Matt reckons it is merely redressing the balance as he has already had some of Ash's. Duggie wanders in and Peter asks him for a job - he starts tonight on trial.

In the Rovers Gail and Nurse Mollie are having a drink. Mollie invites Gail for a couple of drinks later in the day but Martin overhears and asks who is minding the children this evening. Gail points out that Sarah is old enough now - and if Martin is so concerned perhaps he would care to look after them. Gail departs.

Geena is not happy with Peter's appointment to the staff, but Duggie reckons they should be grateful instead of carping.

The mystery parker/shopper watches the blinds in the flat twitch and we are into the break.

After the break our mystery man introduces himself to Dev as Sunita's brother. The brother asks who is in the flat and then tries to break down the door. Dev explains that a stock take is in process upstairs and Deirdre comes downstairs and Mr Parekh finds that Dev appears to have been telling the truth. Sunita's brother does not want the police involved - it is a family matter.

In the Rovers Duggie is showing Peter where the stocks are kept. Toyah soon susses that he has not done much bar work. Relations between bar staff are fairly frosty.

Ryan arrives and shows Tyrone a stereo system - for 20. Ryan assures everyone they are bankrupt stock. Tyrone reckons he can sell them for 40. Tyrone can sniff good profits and agrees to look at buying them all from Ryan and selling them on through the garage.

Over at the Platt's, Gail is folding the laundry. The children are upstairs and are capable of looking after themselves. Gail almost immediately starts shouting at Martin over one of his sharp comments. The children start sneaking downstairs as they argue. David tells them both off - they promised it would be better once they had separated but it is worse than when they were together (how true).

Along at the Rovers Peter is downing a sneaky whisky. Duggie is first customer and asks for a pint which Peter lifts from below the bar - he knew what Duggie would want and had prepared in advance. Deirdre comes in and is surprised to find Peter behind the bar. She tells Duggie that he is a fool to employ Peter.

Vik wanders in and finds Matt is keen on gambling, he has just won 30. Vik and Matt start discussing poker, Peter joins in and Duggie overhears - a game is on in the backroom.

Back at the Platt's David has threatened to leave home to get away from all the shouting and he storms upstairs. Sarah looks from Gail to Martin and decides to go upstairs to see if David is alright and she will leave them to their arguments. Martin and Gail calm down and Martin acknowledges they are right and he apologises. She invites him round for Sunday lunch and in exchange she stays in, rather than going out.

Mollie is on her own getting a drink when Mr Parekh asks Geena if she or Mollie have seen Sunita - showing them a picture. Geena lies, although she is unhappy with it.

In the backroom the betting is for small stakes. Peter thinks he is winning but Vik has a better hand. Toyah comes in asking for help and Peter has to go out and help.

At the flat Dev and Geena tell Sunita that her brother is asking around for her. Sunita reckons that her brother will not give up. Dev says she only has to remain hidden for a further 48 hours and the plane will have gone. Dev wants to phone her parents but Sunita will not let him. Geena is clearly in two minds over the whole thing.

A rather standard episode moving the storylines along.

Gail and Martin are almost in the same situation that Dreary and Ken were some years ago - you can almost imagine that one day they will be back together. Sadly it has not been played up in the same way as Ken/Dreary/Mike.

And the Sunita story strikes me as a little superficial - and I am not sure that I like Sunita that much - why does Dev get all the disturbed women - the original ex-girlfriend, Natalie's sister, Dreary and Sunita. The only normal one is Geena!

Oh well.
