Monday 1 November

Written By Peter Whalley Directed by Dominc Leclerc

More flowers are delivered to the factory. John races across the road to confront the delivery man but he doesn't know who ordered them, he just takes them where he's told. John takes note of the flower company and grabs the bouquet and runs back home just in time to catch Katy and Chesney creeping down the stairs. They beseech John not to tell on them but Fiz comes downstairs and the jig is up. More pleading. Fiz doesn't really seem bothered altogether and tells Chesney to get Katy some breakfast. John pretends that he's up because he heard them, (up, showered, dressed). She goes back upstairs to get ready for work and the kids go into the kitchen, leaving John to grimace at the flowers on the sofa where he'd stashed them under a jacket.

Ashley comes into the kitchen. The little ones ask why Daddy was sleeping on the sofa and he pretends Daddy had indigestion. He asks Claire to meet him at dinnertime to talk. She doesn't seem inclined. She hurries the boys along.

Steve and Becky are trying to figure out where they can get 20 grand. Michelle arrives to collect some of Ciaran's knives. It's only then that Becky remembers that Ciaran has left a note resigning and Steve is none too pleased. Back to the matter at hand, Becky warns Steve that Kylie could take off with Max if they mess her around but he's got no idea where they're going to get all the money from and hope she'll take a bit less. Michelle comes back through from the kitchen so they clam up.

Fiz sees Katy out the door and tells her excitedly that she's got her 20 week scan later. Unfortunately, Owen comes along just then, realizes Katy has spent the night with Chesney and blows his top. He yells at Fiz because she seems to approve of it all. Katy runs off to school and Fiz suggests Owen come to their house so they can all talk sensibly. When Fiz agrees that Chesney and Katy will both be there, he agrees. Somehow I don't think it's going to go all that well.

Down the road, Tyrone comes out to go to work, container of butties in hand (why doesn't he just walk across the road home for his dinner?) He and Molly discuss briefly a surprise party for Jack and he jogs across the cobbles as Kevin arrives. Tyrone immediately starts bragging about the baby's newest accomplishments, totally besotted but it most certainly makes Kevin uncomfortable.

John is on the phone to the florist but they don't know who ordered the flowers either. Chesney comes down and apologizes and assures a distracted John that his relationship with Katy is a real one, it's not just a one nighter. Yeah, right, John just dismisses it and after Chesney leaves, makes a call to Charlotte to try to get her to agree to see him.

Nick is talking empire-building in the bar. He has dreams and she is having nightmares! Ciaran arrives and agrees he's going to be happier working for them. Leanne sends him off to make the coffee. "I knew there was a catch" he jokes. Leanne tells Nick they need to have a nice looking woman behind the bar for the punters to flirt with. Nick assumes she'll do the work but no way, she says, she's got a life! She's got an idea who she can ask but won't say until she has approached her.

Tyrone passes Kevin a mug of tea and they watch Pam arrive at Number 9. Pam calls over a cheery hello in response to Ty's greeting as Kevin just scowls at the world. Tyrone witters on about the Christening on Thursday. Inside Number 9, Molly says she didn't have a choice about having Kevin as godfather since Tyrone insisted. She gets stroppy with Auntie Pam about the whole mess but Pam assures her she'll be there for her, no matter what happens. In a classic Phrase of Doom, Molly states Nothing is Going to Happen... virtually assuring something will!

John is leaving yet another message for Charlotte and he's outside the school this time, promising to come in and find her if she doesn't come out. Meanwhile, Fiz is sitting in the clinic alone waiting for her scan. When it's her turn, she asks can she go later as she's waiting for her husband to get there. No problem. Her husband is meeting with an impatient Charlotte outside the school. He accuses her of sending the flowers as nobody else knows where they buried Colin. She says she has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. He is strung out and hollering but she insists she doesn't know what he's talking about or why and orders him to leave her alone.

After the break, Ciaran is suggesting various menu items to Nick and Leanne. Michelle arrives with the knives and his P45s along with a nasty note from Liz. Leanne offers Michelle the bar job. She's tempted but declines. She doesn't want to work behind another bar if she's going to change jobs. She leaves and Leanne isn't too worried, she'll find someone else.

Fiz is on the table and the scan is beginning. John still isn't there but comes in, out of breath, just as the heartbeat is sounding. He seems fascinated and yes, even touched about the baby. He says wistfully that this makes everything else unimportant.

In the pub, Jack sees Ashley and greets him. Ashley seems to be needing someone to pour his heart out to. He says straight away he's having trouble with Claire. Never really been close, these two so you can see how upset Ashley is. Ashley admits to Jack that he was faking the heart trouble and he regrets it. Jack advises her to eat humble pie and suck up as much as he can to earn forgiveness. Kylie has arrived, holding all the cards, and Becky greets her nervously, saying that Steve is getting the money. Kylie sits down with a smug expression on her face which is just asking to be smacked off!

Leanne approaches Cheryl outside the kebab shop and asks her to come work at the bar. She promises good tips and even promises to share shifts with her so they each have some family time. Cheryl says she'll think about it.

Owen has told Liz about finding Katy at Chesney's. He's going to get through to Katy one way or another. Kylie and Becky chat quietly. Kylie isn't sure she believes Becky and demands Steve bring the money in 10 minutes.

Fiz and John are back home. He picks up the post and she goes to make sandwiches for lunch. She tells John about the meeting with Owen after work. John is dismayed.

Ashley has returned home to see Claire, having closed the shop. She starts right in on him for drinking and closing the shop. He says he's talked to Jack and is following his advice to come talk to her. She turns her back on him and starts the Hoover up again. No result there, I'm afraid.

Cheryl comes in to the bar. She is there to find out more details, like pay and does she get a job contract. Nick assures both her and Ciaran they'll have contracts.

Tyrone tells Molly he's been talking to Jack and Jack doesn't want Terry at his funeral because he doesn't think of him as his son anymore. Kevin comes along so they change the subject, pretending Molly has only come to bring the baby to see Tyrone. More proud daddy talk from Tyrone who can't imagine life without baby Jack now. Kevin looks guilty.

Steve comes into the pub and tells Becky and Kylie that he's maxed out all his credit cards and got all the cash he can but it's only just over 10 grand. Forget it, Kylie says and tells them the deal is off. She leaves with Becky hard on her heels, promising that she'll find the money. She runs back in to talk to Steve and begs him to find the money somehow. Kylie isn't going to bargain with them. Steve sighs and says he'll try. She runs back to her sister and assures her that Steve will get the money. She's dubious. Steve comes over and says he'll get a loan from the bank against the pub and cab firm. She insists he's only got an hour or two and that's it. She goes off to the cafe.

Fiz takes her scan photo and is ready to go to work for the afternoon. He's distracted again, having opened a letter that came earlier. She tells him to let Chesney know to be at home for the meeting with Owen. Yeah. John is off in La La land again. Fiz leaves and he opens the letter which has a note that's made from letters cut out of magazines straggled across the page. "I know what you did". Oh honestly, in this day and age of the computer, people are still cutting out letters from magazines for these kinds of notes?

Stay tuned for part 2.

It hardly seems a week since the last update, time goes quickly rounder here. Events in Weatherfield tonight are from the pen of Peter Whalley and were directed by Dominic LeClerc.

Apart from a brief view of a very panic struck John Stape hiding the anonymous letter received at the end of the last episode matters really commence in the cab office where Steve is trying to convince LLoyd to break their agreed rules and let him use the money in the cab account for his immediate personal need which he will make good later with a bank loan (ambitious - have you tried to get a bank loan recently, my company has a significant overdraft facility which our state owned bankers are withdrawing despite having significant amounts of security and there being no risk in it and a huge profit margin for them - and the Government owns them - it is laughable). Steve tells Lloyd it is to buy Max - it is twenty grand for Kylie to get her out their lives. Steve talks Lloyd into the ground and he agrees to Steve using the money.

At the cafe Kylie is telling Roy that she will settle her debts later when she has some cash - until then can he add her meal onto what she already owes. Later Steve and Becky turn up with a pink bag. Steve tells Kylie that she must not throw the money around and keep the whole thing confidential. They eventually agree to hand over half. Max to be delivered later and the rest of the cash will be delivered later. Becky distracts Roy whilst half the money is paid over and shortly after Kylie settles her debt with Roy. Kylie goes and Becky and Steve snog.

Katy arrives in the cafe and tells Chesney that her father (Owen) is on the warpath.

At the garage Kev tells a busy Ty that he is popping home for a few minutes. Kev heads to Molly and says he is trying not to get involved but he finds it hard to deal with Ty talking about and he sees Molly pushing the pram. Kev wants a DNA test to find out who the father is. Kev wants to know but Molly only wants Ty to be the father - so there will be no DNA test. It is not going to happen. She does not want Kev the christening - Kev storms off.

Rosie is asking Sophie about the planned party - apparently it will be a small one. Later the discussions - but Rosie tries to talk them round and the doorbell goes - it is Jason and she announces that they are a couple now. In the Rovers Jason and Rosie discuss the party and Rosie decides that she will ensure that Sophie gets the best party ever.

John wants to talk to Charlotte but as he departs he is caught by Fiz - they have to show a combined front to Owen. John returns indoors to tidy up. Later Chesney tries to convince Fiz and John that they should not let Owen in the house. John suggests that Chesney apologises. They bicker and outside Owen and Katy bicker as well. Inside Owen gives them a talking to. He says that he does not want his daughter misbehaving. John goes off on a rant saying that everyone ignores him and everyone tells him to shut up and clearly the letter writing campaign is starting to make him unbalanced. Fiz and Owen cannot understand why he is ranting. Owen accepts that they did not know Katy was there. Owen tells all of them that he does not want Katy seeing Chesney again. Owen asks Fiz and John if they will back him up. John says that they will accept that Chesney does not see her in the house - but outside they have no control. There will be no more sneaking around. Katy and Owen depart and Chesney is unhappy at the lack of support, he makes it clear that he is going to carry on seeing Katy.

Carla is trying to convince Michelle to work for her. Michelle reckons they will argue. Carla leaves and tells Michelle that she will eventually make the right decision.

Owen tells Liz that he intends to keep his daughter under control. [Look sunshine, I have had four teenage daughters and quite frankly keeping them under control was never an option, the odds are against you and given that this is d#2 you really should know better by now].

And then Ciaran walks into the Rovers and that puts a huge smile on Michelle's face. He has come for a drink with the girl of his dreams and it would seem that things are finally working out between the two of them. When Liz sees him she orders him out of the pub. Michelle takes offence and if he is going she is going as well. So Michelle tells Liz she is going. Michelle and Liz exchange insults and Liz tells them never to return. Michelle grabs Ciaran and they go off together - as a couple.

Becky lets Liz know that Kylie is coming round with Max. Becky mopes in the bar watching the door open and close. Eventually Kylie and Max and Dimitri arrive and Kylie makes it clear that she wants the money. Steve hands it over and Kylie tells Max that Becky will be looking after him. She dumps Max's things and Kylie and Dimitri depart. Becky cuddles Max.

John arrives at Charlottes and accuses her of sending the poison pen letter ("I saw what you did"). But it cannot be her - she received one as well. So someone must have seen them. They discuss possibilities - Norris, Fiz but both are discounted. John cannot work out what the blackmailer wants - and indeed what is going to happen next?

And did we learn anything tonight:
Don't upset a barmaid who has another job offer - she will walk out showing all of her much enhanced assets
That Owen is really simple - controlling a teenage daughter is not possible.
That John and Charlotte have a problem - but who is it? Answers on a postcard please.
And handing over twenty k for a child is not going to be a good long term solution - my official prediction.

See you all next week.

Thursday 4 November

Breakfast time, and Chesney is aggrieved that Fiz let Owen so much as cross the threshold. Katie is his girlfriend and he's not giving her up for anyone, especially not her head case dad. Chesney storms out and seconds later the post comes through the letterbox. John, who has been sitting at the table, leaps up and picks it all up, stopping to stare, momentarily, at a buff envelope addressed in the same way as before. "Any death threats?" call Fiz, from the kitchen. John jumps. "From Owen," she explains. John tells her it's just bills, but looks visibly shaken.

In the Webster's house, Kevin is polishing his shoes for the christening but telling Sally he's not really up to it and he's got a lot on. She brushes his gripes aside. It's Sophie's birthday, and Sally gives her a card with a lot of money in it. Sian points out she can now afford ‘them boots' while Kevin thinks a sensible winter coat would be a good idea. Rosie gives her a fancy box containing sexy underwear (much to Kevin's horror!) and Sian gives her a silver heart on a chain. Sophie gives her a thank-you kiss, while Kevin and Sally look away, embarrassed.

Over at Tyrone and Molly's, she's clearing away the breakfast things as Ty makes a fuss of the baby, telling him about the forthcoming christening and how godparents are there to provide extra backup, and how he couldn't do better than Kevin and Sally Webster.

In the back room of the pub, Steve is moaning to Becky about losing Ciaran and Michelle and Becky's about to take Max to the park. Steve says they ought to start looking for a nursery, and Becky tells him she's already on it.

John steps out of the bookies and starts to look at the contents of the letter that arrived this morning when Fiz rushes up to him. He jumps guiltily. "You look like you've seen a ghost," she says. He tells her it's just his wage slip.

Michelle passes Carla and stops to talk. Carla says she's heard about Michelle's fall out with Liz. "Er..about that job…." says Michelle. Carla tells her she's already filled it, with a fantastic woman who's brilliant, funny, sharp as a whip. Michelle looks crestfallen until Carla asks if she's ok to start tomorrow. Michelle stares at her. "I don't know what to say!" she says, delighted. Carla tells her to say yes this time.

As Kevin irons his shirt, Sally is putting the finishing touches to the wrapped christening present. She says it's funny how she and Molly are friends now whereas not long ago they were hardly on speaking terms. She says that she and Kevin are going to be good godparents and baby Jack will want for nothing. Sophie and Sian come downstairs and Sally realises the time, and how they need to hurry up. Sophie starts to tie Kevin's tie for him, and Sally remarks how she's not their little baby any more. "I am Dad, course I am," says Sophie. Sian says she wishes her dad could see this.

Most of the residents of Coronation Street are arriving at the church for the christening. Molly keeps looking down the path and Tyrone tells her to relax, Kevin's not going to miss Jack's christening. Pam mutters to Bill that it's just a sham, he agrees but says they've just got to get through the day. Big Jack asks Ashley if Claire is coming. He says he tried to convince her but she wouldn't have it. "Everything's falling apart Jack," says Ash. Jack tells him he's sure he can sort it. Just then Kevin and Sally come hurrying up the path and go into the church. Once inside, Tyrone tries to hand the baby to Kevin, who just stands there looking shocked. "Take him Kevin, he won't bite," says Sally. Kevin takes him and they walk to the pew.

The vicar arrives and starts the service by calling Molly, Tyrone and the godparents forward. Every time a response is called for the others all say their part, but Kevin remains silent. Sally looks concerned and nudges and mutters to him.

Becky is in the cafe telling Roy and Hayley about the situation with Max. Well, she's telling them her version, which is that Social Services are fine about it, the adoption wasn't an issue, they only want what's best for Max. Hayley is relieved and Roy thinks she has a more positive outlook. Roy asks how Max is taking it, and Becky tells him he thinks his mum has gone on holiday, she may be back for the odd visit, but has gone to start a new life in Cyprus. Roy isn't happy that Kylie has abandoned her child, but feels that there couldn't be a better person to entrust Max's future to.

The christening party is now in the pub, and Sally is moaning to Molly about Rosie's choice of boyfriend, Jason Grimshaw. Molly thinks that Jason is all right, but Sally says that, as a mother, Molly will soon come to realise that ‘all right' isn't good enough. Just then Claire arrives in response to a message from big Jack. "Ashley tells me you've split up," he says, "I can't tell you how sorry I am." "Not as sorry as I am," responds Claire. Jack urges her to go and speak to Ashley who's sitting alone, so she does, but tells him there's no promises. A miserable looking Kevin goes to the bar to get another drink and is quickly joined by Pam who tells him to pull himself together. Tyrone comes up and pushes a pint towards Kevin, telling him the day would mean nothing but for him and Sally.

Carla is round at Peter's, giving him a progress report on her life. She's eating better, having reintroduced herself to her kitchen. She tells him she's off the wine and he tells her she's doing brilliantly. Carla tells him that when she's tempted, she breaks into song. "Okay….." says Peter. Just then the door opens and in bursts Leanne and Ciaran, who is bearing a tray of Lancashire Tapas. "What are you doing here?" asks Leanne. Carla tells her she came to see if she would like to join her for lunch.

Claire and Ashley are sitting side by side straight faced and solemn. She's still angry at his deception and he tells her he wasn't thinking straight. "And now you are?" she queries. Then she tells him that she's moving to France with the boys whether he likes it or not.

Molly stops Kevin as he comes out of the gents and asks what he thinks he's playing at. He tells her this is not the time or the place. "Oh, and the church was?" asks Molly, irate. Kevin asks if she's any idea how hard it was for him. He tells her to get a DNA test. "What harm can it do?" he says. Molly is adamant however. "You chose not to be Jack's father when you walked away, now I'm choosing to believe that Tyrone is," she says, "it's as simple as that."

Kirk is standing in a group with Dev and Sunita and John. Kirk says it's great that they're all there in the Rovers, they all know each other. "What does that mean?" John wants to know. "I haven't a clue," says Kirk, "but we've all had our rubbish times but we can share the good as well." Just then, John gets a text message from Charlotte, telling him to meet her round the back.

Sophie and Sian get off the bus and head towards the Webster's door, talking about who is coming to the party tomorrow. Rosie and Jason are across the Street, and Jason comments that they seem comfortable with each other and asks if it's ok for men to go to the party tomorrow. "Why wouldn't it be?" asks Rosie.

In a back alley, Charlotte tells John that the situation is dangerous for both of them. John pulls out the note he got - "A lesson must be learnt before understanding dawns" it reads. "Our friend has become creative," says Charlotte, who is very frightened of going back to an empty house. "Why don't you just show yourself!" shouts Charlotte, "tell us what it is you want!" John tells her they need to stick together, and she flings herself at him, hugging him.

Back in the pub, people are leaving. Sally tells Kevin she's just going to pop to the loo and then they should be leaving as well. She hands Kevin the baby and goes off. Kevin quickly pulls the dummy out of baby Jack's mouth, just as Molly comes and takes him. When she's gone, Kevin wraps it in a paper napkin and stuffs it into his pocket.

Friday 5 November

Good morning/afternoon/evening. We open this Friday episode with Carla pulling over her car in order to taunt Liz, who is sweeping the pavement outside the Rovers. Of course, Carla could have driven to the factory and still taunted Liz just by raising her voice a bit . . . She tells Liz that Michelle works for her now and that Ciaran was wasted at the pub anyway. She mentions how good his mini-hotpot is, which raises the spines on Liz's back.

At the factory they're moaning about Carla's late arrival, despite the fact that she's been parked just up the road for a good few minutes. Carla manages to get the car up to a decent speed so she can swing it swiftly into the parking spot outside the factory. Michelle and Carla break the news that Michelle is now management. Two Mrs Connors. Sally looks very annoyed at the news.

Kevin opens the garage and phones the DNA lab at the same time. Who says men can't multitask. He asks them to send the results by courier. He doesn't realise Tyrone's overheard and claims a debtor is sending his cheque by courier.

Fiz has overslept. John offers to do the laundry and as he's checking the pockets he finds a receipt from a florist in Chesney's clothes.

Peter's buying fireworks from Rita. Apparently they're having family fireworks round at Ken and Deirdre's. Have you seen the size of that yard? No enough room to spin a Catherine wheel. They'll have to go and stand over at the salon in order to be the minimum safe distance! Rita heard Leanne mention fittings and wonders if it was for her wedding dress, but Peter says it's fittings for the new bar. He reckons if Leanne had to choose between the wedding and the bar at the moment, the bar would win. As Peter leaves, Rosie comes in chatting on her phone. She asks Rita for some mini-sparklers. She plans to put them in cocktails for Sophie's party. Non-alcoholic cocktails, she hastens to add. She tells Rita not to think of coming round to check up on them like she did last time. "You nearly burnt down the kitchen."

"First Peter. Now Nick. It's like we're being targeted," says Steve. Betty can't see what he's worrying about. It'll be a different crowd at the new bar. Steve reckons it'll be like a morgue in the Rovers with all the young ones at the new bar. Betty staunchly defends oldies, telling him they're apparently the new consumers. Steve breaks the news to her that there's hotpot on the menu. Betty's a bit more worried now. She doesn't think an appeal to the licensing authorities or a petition will do any good. "Rats!" says Steve. It's not an exclamation we've heard him use before, but it serves a useful plot purpose because it gives Betty an idea. All Steve has to do is ring the council's environmental health people and tell them about the rat she saw coming out of Nick Tilsley's new bar. Steve says he's the boss and has to keep his hands clean, so she'd better make the phone call. "You know that pay rise we were talking about . . ." Betty says. "Consider it done," says Steve. "Ditto," Betty says.

Jack wants to know whether Molly just organised the christening because of him. She assures him she wasn't. He admires her confidence with baby Jack and says: "You're as good a wife as you are a mother." An embarrassed Molly asks if he's seen baby Jack's blue dummy.

Janice has gone to visit Leanne in the bar. She wonders if Leanne is doing the right thing. She tells Nick and Leanne that Michelle's gone to work for Carla. She doesn't think it'll last. She goes off "to tease the new girl," and Nick tells Leanne he's sorry for Michelle after working with Janice.

John wonders when Peter's going for his lunch. Peter suggests they both go and close up the shop. Charlotte comes in and Peter goes off on his own. John shows her the florist receipt. He thinks maybe Chesney saw or heard something. Charlotte points out Chesney was having his party in the cafe when they got rid of Colin's body, but John thinks he might have snuck back. He's sure Chesney hates him and he plans to find out the truth. He's going to question him, though Charlotte thinks it's too risky.

There are desperate cries at the Websters' where the power has just gone off. Sophie's worried about the food in the oven. "Never mind that. What about my hair?" asks Rosie. Sophie races across the cobbles screaming "Dad! Dad!" He agrees to go over and see to it.

In the factory, Carla and Michelle are getting on well, though Carla's going out and wants to leave a rather surprised Michelle in charge of the factory. Carla shows her the list of machinists who volunteered to do overtime tonight and wants Michelle to remind them of that before they go skiving off. Carla will be back to lock up.

Sally's acted in a supervisory capacity before and thinks she should have had the job, not Michelle. Michelle comes out to remind them of the overtime. Sean's jaw drops. Janice teases her by taking drinks orders. Michelle picks up a pair of knickers and when Janice points out she's never stitched them and has no idea what she's looking for, Michelle says she wears them. "That's not what I heard," Janice tells her. "And I heard you've never taken yours off," Michelle retaliates. "Still, no demand, no supply, eh? Want to carry on?" Janice looks back at her work.

A courier arrives at the garage and Tyrone signs for what he thinks is the cheque. He's about to open the envelope when Molly comes over the road.

Kevin's trying to fix the electrics as fast as he can.

John asks for some time off and heads down the street.

Kevin finishes fixing the fuse and tells the girls they could have done it. Rosie can't hear him because she's drying her hair.

He races back to the garage and finds a courier envelope on top of a car. Tyrone calls him to come into the office. He and Molly both look quite stern. It turns out they're having an argument about whether the baby has her eyebrows or Tyrone's. Kevin gives Tyrone a blast about leaving the envelope where anyone could get it. And he shouts at Molly that it's not a safe place to bring the baby. Then he shoves the envelope in a drawer.

At the factory, Sean has a date and no plans to do overtime. "Michelle won't mind. She's my mate."

John's at home when Chesney arrives. He waves the receipt in front of him. Chesney says he doesn't care if John found it. "I'm not ashamed of nowt." Fiz arrives home and interrupts them. Chesney tells them he bought some flowers for Katy. "Go on then. Have a laugh!" John does. He laughs like a maniac and Chesney races upstairs.

Sophie and Sian organise a playlist for the party while Rosie, her hair in big curlers, makes some kind of secret arrangement by phone. Sally wants to make sure it's not going to be a wild party and Sophie explains it'll be Chesney, Katy and some of the choir girls. Rosie's surprised they haven't invited Emily. Sally tells Rosie she wants her there to keep an eye on things.

Fiz and John listen to the fireworks (presumably those undermining the foundations of the Barlow home) and Fiz speculates on what it will be likes to have their baby by next year's celebrations. Fiz likes to see him in a better mood. He promises he'll apologist to Chesney tomorrow. The phone goes but there's apparently nobody there.

Nick and Leanne are out in the street looking up but they're looking at the new signs for The Joinery, not the fireworks. The electrician switches it on. There's a moment when Nick has his arm across her shoulders and they almost hug. Leanne pulls away and says she'd better go over to the Barlows' place. She's about to leave when a man from the council arrives to investigate reports of vermin. Nick shows him inside with good grace but Leanne is fuming.

At the garage, Kevin lets Tyrone go home early and even offers to put away Tyrone's tools. He goes into the office and picks up the envelope, removing the report. It's impossible to tell from his face what it says.

The End ... so we'll have to wait for the second episode to find out!

Kevin is looking in shock at his letter but he is interrupted by the arrival of Sally. She wants to know if he'll come to the pub with her and Gail so that Sophie and Sian can enjoy the party. Kevin is confused and Sally criticises him for never listening. He snaps at her then apologises as he's had a hard day.

Nick is visited by a health and safety inspector who refuses to divulge who reported the bar. Nick assures him that there is nothing wrong with the place but the inspector says that he will be the judge of that.

As Sally and Gail talk about whether it was wise to leave a party of teenagers alone, Kevin looks deep in thought. Tyrone calls over and offers to buy everyone a drink. Kevin snaps at Sally when she agrees to a drink that he has just spent all day with Tyrone.

Carla is on the phone to a client but when she comes off she demands to know where Sean has gone. Janice replies that he has gone home so Carla calls on Michelle to track him down.

Leanne and Peter are talking about how much Simon enjoyed the fireworks. They agree to go for a drink.

Fiz and John are watching a murder mystery while Chesney gets ready for the party. Fiz advises him to keep away from Katy. A panicked John answers the phone when it rings but it's just Julie. When he sits back down Chesney informs him that he had a weird silent phone call earlier today.

Sean is in the Rovers waiting on a supposedly gorgeous date to turn up. The date does arrive but is very different to how he advertised himself on the internet. Sean looks seriously sour.

Leanne and Peter come in and Leanne acts coldly to Steve, clearly thinking that he called the health inspector. Steve appears not to know what she is talking about.

Michelle comes in and finds Sean with his date. She warns him to get back to work otherwise he will find himself sacked. Sean tells her she has changed. She storms out but as his date annoys him, Sean decides that overtime is a better alternative.

Kevin makes his excuses at the pub and heads out. Sally orders him to check on the party.

Rosie arrives at the party dressed as appropriately as ever. She informs Sophie's church friends that they top heavy flesh hanging from her chest is called a cleavage. As Rosie worries that the party is boring, her rollerskating chav friends and a drag king burst in. Sophie and Sian look worried.

Sean arrives at work and tells Michelle that it wasn't because he was scared of her, he just wanted to avoid the date. Carla comments that she is impressed as Michelle hammers on the window and orders everyone back to work.

Molly is sleeping on the settee but is awoken by the arrival of Kevin who wastes no time in telling her that he has done a DNA test which says that he is baby Jack's father.

Molly is horrified by what Kevin has done and says he has betrayed the child's trust. He reminds her that it is his child too and he is not going anywhere until they have decided what they are going to do.

The party has got out of control as the teens down shots and play a risqué pass the balloon game. Sophie and Sian enjoy a prolonged kiss, much to the shock of their choir friends...and the church pastor who has walked in to give Sophie her present.

He very quickly walks back out, looking ashen faced.

Fiz is at the kitchen window and screams that someone is outside watching her in the back yard. John hurtles out but whoever was there was too quick…

Molly tells Kevin that knowing that this baby is his is going to kill her every time Tyrone picks him up. Kevin tells her it'll be the same for him. As Molly breaks down and weeps that she wants Jack to be Tyrone's, Kevin looks guilty and leaves. On the staircase, Jack Senior looks tearful. He has overheard everything.

Nick arrives in the Rovers and jubilantly tells Leanne that they passed the inspection. She agrees to go over and have a look at the new light fittings.

Kevin comes back in and Sally asks how the party was going. He yells that it was fine and she says there is no need to bite off her head.

But the party is anything but fine. Teens are vomiting and snogging outside (though thankfully not at the same time) as heavy music blasts from the Webster household.

Jack comes through and Molly asks how long he has been awake. He tells her not long and there is an air of awkwardness, but he chooses not to confront Molly over what he has heard.

Sally and Kevin arrive home to find the place in disarray. They are raging and Kevin yells for Sophie to get it all sorted. Rosie finds the whole thing hilarious.

Leanne and Nick arrive at the bar to find water pouring from the ceiling.

Sally is telling off a drunken Sophie but she doesn't seem to care. She is in a world of her own. Sally warns her that she'll care in the morning when she has a nasty hangover.

Leanne tells Nick that it could have been worse as he surveys the damage. He moans that the whole venture has been cursed from day one.

Tyrone arrives home and takes Jack from Molly as she looks sad. Tyrone grins at Jack and says how much he loves his son. Jack agrees and says with an air of sadness that he knows he does. Jack goes to bed and outside the room, looks very troubled. Is he going to come clean to Tyrone? Outside, an equally troubled Kevin is deep in thought. Everything has changed now... but can the paternity of baby Jack remain secret?

Monday 8 November

Written By Martin Allen Directed by Tony Prescott

Tonight we say goodbye to Jack Duckworth but in this first part, we will celebrate his birthday.

Tyrone is still doing last minute invites for Jack's surprise birthday party at dinnertime in the Rovers. He and Molly giggle over the surprise as Jack arrives downstairs to a chorus of Happy Birthday and pressies. What do you get for someone who isn't going to live to see his next birthday, though? A record player and old records, favourites of Jack's from his youth, that's what. Ah memories! What a lovely gift and Jack is well chuffed and touched.

Sally has spent time apologizing to the mothers of some of Sophie's church friends for the drunken debacle of the night before. She's narked at the state of the carpet and she's narked at Kevin because he didn't check on the party. He says he did after the "emergency call out" and things were fine then. She reminds him of Jack's party at dinnertime. He's not keen but she insists. Two hungover teenagers slope down the stairs and slump on the sofa. Sally wastes no time scolding them roundly. They're suffering and they blame Rosie who points out that Sophie didn't insist on Rosie's friends leaving. Too drunk, Sophie moans. Kevin orders them to clean up the mess and Sally adds her two cents.

Nick is complaining about the bar which was flooded the day before. Audrey can't see what the problem is, the insurance will surely cover the costs of repairs and he can get someone in to fix it all. He whinges and moans his way to the bar. Audrey figures it doesn't matter if they have to open a day or two late but he just whines some more about everything happening to him. Me, Me, Me. Audrey gets fed up and tells him to just quit it all then. She basically tells him to grow up and be a man only not in those words. She's much more polite and flattering about it.

When Nick arrives, Leanne has already got the workforce to hand and sorted out the insurance claims, too. Nick is gobsmacked and asks Owen how he knew how to fix the electrics. (Duh) Owen raises an eyebrow and says it's easy when you know what you're doing. (Builder, you see, not a whining businessman). Nick is impressed and pleased that they should be able to open as planned.

The factory bees are arriving for work and settling in. Sean seems to have got lucky with a plasterer on bonfire night.

Ashley arrives at the betting shop to ask Peter if he's heard about Jack Duckworth's party. He didn't, apparently, but will make a point to be there. John arrives a bit late, looking rough and says he didn't sleep well. Peter warns him that a new baby will really teach him about sleep deprivation. Ashley agrees and tells him to be thankful it isn't going to be twins. Peter suggests that waking up in the middle of the night is a sign of depression and if there's something on his mind... (like keeping a secret?) Ashley leaves and the phone rings. John takes the call and there's no answer.

Leanne is showing Cheryl how to use the debit/credit card reader which doesn't seem to be a chip and pin one. I thought all new ones would be? Owen is running around and Chris is watching Cheryl from across the room, making a disparaging remark about trusting Cheryl with money. He is ignored. Nick is still grinning stupidly and watching Leanne with admiring eyes.

Outside, Sophie is fretting about the pastor seeing them snog and Sian is trying to distract her. Rosie comes over and apologizes that things got out of hand. Surely they had a good time? Sian ruefully smiles but Sophie is too upset and admits she's worried what the pastor will say. Rosie just thinks it's a joke and urges them to either confront the pastor or give up the church and start living. Apparently there is a prayer meeting later so they'll soon find out!

Jack is listening to one of the records and looking very reflective (and maybe a little troubled?). Tyrone looks in on him and invites him for a drink. He asks Tyrone to sit down first. He asks Tyrone if he's happy. Of course, Tyrone says, aside from losing Jack and says that he and Molly have got over the rocky patch. Jack wants to go to his grave knowing that they will be happy. He doesn't say anything more and then hugs Tyrone, whispering that he'd swop him for Terry any day and they go off to the pub for that drink.

And looky ho, in the pub, Sean is serving pints, helping out on his dinner break i guess. The factory girls wonder why Carla has been on the orange juice and they gossip that maybe Carla is pregnant.

In the cafe, Cheryl and Lloyd discuss Chris again as he's been underfoot at the bar. Lloyd suggests that maybe they can get him barred and guess who walks in just then? He overheard that last bit and asks who they're getting barred. They don't answer.

Jack comes into the pub and everyone jumps up from behind the bar and out of the booths to surprise him. It worked, I don't think he guessed. Everyone raises a glass as he has his first pint.

Nick and Leanne are still scurrying around. She's distracted and he follows her into the office. She admits she's supposed to have a wedding dress fitting but will probably have to miss it. He offers to drive her. The workmen can carry on without their supervision. She allows it.

Jack is opening cards and accepting gifts and "many happy returns" wishes. (gulp) Everyone jokes and Jack is surrounded by all his old friends, including Connie, Rita, Emily, Audrey and Ken. Kevin tries to corner Molly but she puts him off. Claire hands a card to Jack who asks if she and Ashley have patched things up. She sighs that they've tried. Not hard enough, Jack declares!

In the betting shop, John runs to get the phone and again, nobody is on the other end. John shouts down the phone. Peter scolds him for shouting in front of punters when it's only a wrong number. Get a grip! John makes a call to Charlotte and says he needs to see her.

In the pub, Jack is surrounded by friends and memories and stories. The Peacocks exchange a few awkward words about the children. Sean brings out a little cake with a big 7 and 4 on it. Everyone applauds as Jack blows out the candles and is urged to make a speech. He thanks everyone for their friendship and mentions Vera. He thanks Connie and then thanks Ty and Molly for being like his son and daughter. His voice is catching and I don't mind telling you, my eyes are filling up already. Kevin looks glum as Jack talks about the baby and then everyone toasts Ty, Molly and the baby.

Sophie tells Sian they have to be up front about it all. The Pastor has arrived, unexpectedly. The prayer meeting was that evening but he seems to want to take this up privately. He wants to have a chat about the other night. Sophie apologizes about things getting out of hand but that's not really what he wants to talk about.

In the bridal shop, Leanne shows off her dress for Nick. It takes his breath away. She goes back in to take it off and he swallows a lump in his throat. He runs out and gets in his car and drives off.

Back to the pub, Ashley and Claire chat about Jack and Vera always managing to work out their differences but the conversation soon sinks into accusations again. It ends with Claire stalking off.

In a booth, Jack is sitting with Molly. She thanks him for the nice words he said about them. Jack admits he's been down in the dumps and didn't know whether to mention it. He admits he overheard her and Kevin and he knows Kevin's the father. What's going to happen, Molly? He shakes his head sadly.

Mollie tells Jack it was a mistake. He tells her that Ty is the very best of men. Jack says that despite everything - he and Vera always cared for each other. Jack tells Molly that if she has any doubts she must leave Weatherfield and move away. She promises Jack she will do the right thing.

At the bridal shop Leanne cannot understand why Nick has vanished. She returns to the Street on the bus. She meets Carla and then Peter who is going to the Rovers to wish Jack happy birthday.

And John is on Charlotte's doorstep. They are sympathising with each other over the stalker and John goes in. They carry on discussing what the stalker wants - there have been no demands - and then Charlotte points out that they have each other and she asks him for a kiss which he rejects.

The pastor is telling Sophie and Sian about sin in abandoning God and these impulses should not be acted upon. Sian challenges the pastor and she says they are all equal - these are challenges from God. Sian tells the pastor that the world has moved on. Later at home Sophie and Sian discuss what they have been told. Sian cannot take it seriously - but Sophie is upset by it all.

Owen and Chris are working in the Joinery when Nick comes in and tells them to knock off.

There is a big party in the Rovers and Ty returns. A drunk Kev tells Ty that children need looking after. Kev drops his glass and Sal tries to take Kev home as he is making a show of himself. Owen and Chris join the group in the Rovers. Jack gets up and departs quietly - he gets a kiss out of Carla as he leaves - and Jack notes that they are together. There are questions as to why they are celebrating his 74th birthday - but we know.

Outside Jack looks around, taking in the Street, the tram rumbling past, the cobbles, his history for the last thirty years and we recall the answer to the question about a drunk Vera - amorous, very amorous.

After the break we rejoin Peter and Carla in the smoking area at the back of the Rovers. They start discussing the song for the first dance of the wedding. They hum, whistle and sign "Fly me to the Moon".

Along the ginnel in the Dobbs backyard jack is looking at his pigeons and can hear the happy singing.

Leanne storms into the Joinery and wants to know why Nick left. He explains he is not simply jealous of Peter - he wants her.

In the Rovers a somewhat the worse for wear Ashley leads them all in singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" for Jack. At one side Audrey tells Ken that she hopes Ash and Claire will sort out their differences. Ken tells her that they are all sorry about the earlier events.

Along the Street, Jack is sat listening to the records bought earlier.

Kev and Sal have returned home - but have been thrown out of the Indian as Kev was clearly drunk. Sal asks if he aspires to be Jack Duckworth and Kev slumping down on the sofa goes to sleep says maybe.

At the Doobs Jack is saying "I'm tired Vera, so tired." And then we hear Vera's voice "Put your paper down and come with me".

And your reporter must now, as then when I first heard it stop for a little sob. She has returned.

She tells him off and he asks if she is waiting for him. There is a bus in a minute and of course she is waiting for him. He pulls her closer and they share one last dance around the living room. The music grows louder and the words "As I leave you there" are heard several times as we see the two arms around each other moving slowly in circles from above and we know, that sadly the legend which was Jack Duckworth is no longer with us.

Take a break, have a cry, we shall not see his like again, the ducking, the diving, the rowing, the making up, the scams, the good times, the not quite such good times and the really bad times, the Duck Eggs had them all. Wish them well.

But our time tonight is not yet over.

In the Rovers Ty. Molly, Connie and baby Jack head off home, expecting to see Jack asleep at home.

Peter leaves Carla wondering where Leanne has got to. She is in the Joinery arguing with Nick over her reasons for resigning. They bicker and she wants to make a success of the bar and she also wants to marry Peter. Nick says goodnight Miss Battersby in response to her saying goodnight Mr Tilsley.

Ty, Molly, Connie and baby Jack arrive home and for a moment they chatter and look at Jack sleeping. Connie looks more closely and tries to wake Jack - and she is first to realise that he has gone. Connie goes to call an ambulance. Tyrone seems pole-axed, he starts crying and then kneeling down by Jack says "Goodnight Dad".

At which point the titles roll.

A hugely moving episode and all credit to the management for persuading Vera to return tonight. We all know they are destined to be together for ever.

I will be back next week as events start to really warm up.

Thursday 11 November

Connie puts some toast down in front of Tyrone, but he's not hungry. He's angry that Jack has gone too soon, they still had lots to do and talk about.

Owen and Cheryl's ex, Chris, arrive at the Joinery. Nick offers them a brew, the first since they arrived on Monday. Leanne arrives, but Nick is short with her and walks out.

Molly wanders round to the garage and tells Kevin that Jack passed away.

Back at the Joinery, Nick gives Owen a couple of VIP tickets for their opening night. Leanne asks again if she can have a word, but he snaps at her and walks off.

Emily is in the Kabin, selling poppies and chatting to Rita when Connie comes in and breaks the new about Jack.

Molly and Kevin are talking in the office. Kevin says that Jack was weird with him at the do, maybe he felt weird. Molly tells him that wasn't the reason, it was because he heard Kevin telling her that the baby is his. "It hurt like you wouldn't believe, but he still didn't judge me, I didn't deserve his kindness," she says. "He didn't say owt to anyone?" Kevin is worried. Molly is scornful, everything always has to be about Kevin. She tells him he can relax, Jack kept it to himself because he was a lovely, decent man.

Owen and Chris are in the cafe, Owen says he's going to go and see Liz and tell her about the tickets, he's sure she'll want to check out the competition. Chris isn't so sure, he thinks Liz will take the tickets and shove them where the sun don't shine. In the end Owen hands the tickets over to him, telling him to look on it as an early Christmas bonus.

Tyrone is cuddling the baby when Connie brings Rita back to the house. Rita tells Ty how sorry she is, and Connie puts the kettle on. Just then there's a knock on the door, it's the postman. Molly goes to the door and brings back a large brown envelope. She takes out a large, portrait sized photo of Jack holding baby Jack, and bursts into tears. Rita remarks how lovely it was that Jack spent his last days with his dearest friends, knowing what it meant to see Tyrone and Molly happy and settled with their lovely baby. Molly cries even more.

Leanne comes back into The Joinery with sandwiches she's bought for lunch. With his back to her, Nick mutters that he'll get something later, he's busy. "Too busy to even look at me?" snaps Leanne, going on to say that working together is going to be awful if he's going to be like that, it's going to be like Fawlty Towers there. She storms into the office and he follows her. He knows they're business partners, and that's all they'll ever be, but he doesn't trust himself. "Nick, we've been through all this, please don't," she says. He says he knows he mustn't let his feelings get in the way of a great business.

Steve calls round to see Tyrone and Connie makes him a cuppa. He sits down in the armchair and asks if Ty and Molly would like to come to the pub in the evening and have a few drinks on the house. Connie remarks that it was Jack's second home. Tyrone agrees, adding, "I don't know how long I can go on looking at that chair where it all happened." Steve nearly chokes on his tea!

In the bookies, Peter is talking to Ciaran about Jack while John reads a text message on his phone. Peter even has Jack's last betting slip, which won him the princely sum of £7.32.

Emily goes into the cafe and sells Anna a poppy, remarking how Gary is a soldier now. Anna says she worries about him all the time. Just then Emily comes over rather weak and wobbly and Anna sits her down and offers her a cup of tea and a bun. Just then Sophie and Sian come in and tell Emily that they've fallen out with the pastor as he's told them that their relationship is a sin. "Can you believe it?" says Sian, outraged. Emily is clearly not in the mood for debate and struggles to her feet and leaves, saying she can't deal with it right now.

Tyrone and Molly go into the Rovers, and Steve and Betty are delighted to see them. Claire and Ashley, Fizz and John also pass on their condolences. Steve tells them he's been on the phone to the brewery and they're going to have a barrel of beer named after Jack.

Out in the Street, Leanne asks Peter if he'll come to their opening night. It's an important night for her and she wants him there, also, she wants to prove to him that she trusts him as far as alcohol is concerned. He tells her he'd do anything for her, and kisses her, and they walk into the pub.

Once inside, Peter hugs Tyrone and gives him the money from the bet. He'd had three to one on Meet Thy Maker!

Ashley remarks to Claire that he's glad they've come out together as a couple. She sniffs and says she's just there to pay her respects to Jack. "We can't carry on like this," says Ashley. "Who says we're going to carry on at all?" says Claire, adding that she doesn't want to talk about it right now.

Emily is talking to Rita, saying she fears that she's upset Sophie. Rita is sure that when Emily gets her head round it she'll be able to deal with Sophie and Sian with the utmost wisdom and compassion.

Back at the Webster's, Sophie tells Sian that she thought Emily would understand. Sian points out that she's a different generation.

In the pub, Tyrone explains that it was Jack who was leaving gifts for people. "So he paid for the church roof to be fixed?" asks Emily. "And he put the tickets through my door?" asks Sally. "And the time I got champagne and flowers?" says Rita. Molly admits it was all Jack. Then she sees Kevin come out of the gents and leaves the table and goes over. Kevin says he feels like a hypocrite, pretending to be Ty's best mate, when all the time…… "How do you think I feel?" says Molly, and marches out of the door. Kevin follows, and outside, Molly tells him that she lied to Jack, telling him she loved Tyrone because that's what he wanted to hear. She's not sure how much longer she can go on living like that.

Friday 12 November

Molly's been talking to the funeral director's and sent the man away, saying Tyrone was at work. She doesn't think Tyrone's ready to make decisions. "You can't even put a notice in the paper until you've decided on a time and a date for the service." Tyrone points out that Wednesday's bowls, Tuesday morning's the allotment committee, Tuesday afternoon's dominoes and they're all going to want to be there. Molly reassures him that they will be.

Peter can't understand what Leanne's doing still at home. She's nervous about tonight. He doesn't like her choice of clothing and fetches a little black dress from her wardrobe, suggesting she wear it, flash her engagement ring a lot and the disappointment will drive the blokes to drink.

Tyrone's grumpy that Kevin hasn't come round to see him in private. Molly says he can fester or go round there to see Kevin.

Ken's in the cafe and tells Anna he's babysitting so won't be at the bar opening. She wonders about the pressure on Peter. Liz told her it will break Peter. She doesn't want to go somewhere where you have to hold your glass down every ten minutes while a tram clatters overhead.

Fiz and John are also in the cafe but John seems very distracted. He says numbers will never move a man to tears or spur him on to war. Fiz points out that he likes a 99 in the summer . . .

Nick and Ciaran are busy in the bar when a very glam Leanne arrives. She's organised for the Gazette to send someone tonight. Ciaran's thrilled to hear Peter will be there too, but Nick turns aside.

Peter's rushing home to change when Carla tries to stop him. He says he'll talk to her later.

Tyrone's gone to see Kevin who claims he's been really busy. They're a little awkward with each other.

At The Joinery, Nick's giving a team talk. He says the bar has to come across as a home from home, but a bit plusher, a bit friendlier and a bit sexier. He says Leanne epitomizes the atmosphere they want.

Sally's made a beef stew for Tyrone and Molly. Tyrone invites them inside but Kevin tries to refuse. Tyrone says it will give them a lift having people in.

Chesney lugs a big carton into the house, kicking a brown envelope on the floor as he does so.

Things are getting going at the new bar. Julie and Janice head that way, watched with amusement by Carla and Michelle as Janice trips and Julie discovers Janice's stash of smuggled booze. Janice says she knows what the prices will be like. Peter sweeps Leanne off her feet to carry her over the threshold and into The Joinery. Nick doesn't look too happy about it. Ciaran carries Michelle the same way. "Don't even think about it!" Carla warns Nick.

Tyrone's detailing all the decisions that have to be made to Sally and Kevin, though Molly'd hoped they could forget about the funeral for one day. She points out that Jack has a son and a grandson so Tyrone shouldn't have all this pushed on to him. Tyrone counters that it's an honour to do it. Sally says that despite all Jack's relatives, Tyrone was the only one who ever made Jack's life happier. She says Jack would tell him that sausages rolls or vol-au-vents, oak coffin or paper, he should just get the list and stick a pin in it. "Cause you've done the only thing that really mattered - you let him die at peace with himself." A guilty Molly looks at Kevin.

Peter talks to Carla, asking about her family. She looks with longing at the glasses of bubbly being passed around. Peter says he's got other things to live for now. He goes off to rescue Leanne, who is trapped by Rosie Webster. Behind him, Carla picks a glass of champagne from a tray . . .

Fiz arrives home, laden with shopping and surprised to see John's not there. She picks up the post as she talks to Chesney. She opens an envelope and freezes, unaware of Chesney's market gossip.

Peter and Leanne chat cheerfully about the guests and wonder what Blanche would have said. Chris tells Cheryl he gives the bar six months. Carla is on her own nearby. She swipes another glass from another tray. Ken arrives to speak to Peter. Peter thinks he's come to grumble but Ken raises a glass to Leanne on behalf of the family.

Cheryl talks to a guest who turns out to be the gossip columnist from the Gazette. When Nick's called away to schmooze the columnist, Chris steps in to chat with Maria.

Back at the Dobbs' place, Sally's talking about modern marriage. She warns Molly she'll end up doing the bulk of the childrearing. Tyrone disputes this. Kevin helps Molly to clear the table and when chat turns to the fact that baby Jack snores, Molly suggests Tyrone take Sally upstairs to hear it properly.

Peter thanks his dad for coming. Michelle's trying to persuade Ciaran to have a drink. Peter answers the phone but can't hear who's calling. "Just calm down and tell me what happened, from the beginning," he tells the caller. Nick and Leanne chat with the columnist. Peter says he'll be there as quick as he can and leaves without a word to Leanne.

Ches goes out and Fiz shows John the anonymous letter she's received. "Your husband needs detention. I need justice," it says. John dismisses it as a crank letter. "I've done my time. My conscience is clear," he tells her.

Molly has told off Kevin for staying away. Kevin's stressed by Tyrone and Sally stressing Jack's peaceful death but Molly tells him that's their burden and they have to hide it instead of acting out of character. "Folk get suspicious." She urges him to forget about the DNA results. He can do that by being a man, like Jack was. "It hurt, but he took our secret to the grave." She says they have to do the same.

The columnist leaves and Leanne thinks they'll get a four-star review but she can't find Peter to tell him. Ciaran and Michelle assure her that Peter wasn't drinking.

He wasn't, but Carla was. She's at the police station after being arrested for drink-driving. Peter can't understand it. "How could you?" Carla tells him it doesn't matter. She's in a temper.

The End of the first episode.
Margaret Carr Here we go with episode two in which both Peter and Leanne get pro positions...but only one will remain faithful…And the most obvious secret in soapland is revealed as John's stalker is unmasked. But you already had guessed this one, surely…

Kevin is asking Molly how she thinks he can forget that baby Jack is his. She tells him that he will have to pull off an Oscar performance as the only alternative is destroying everyone's lives and is that really worth it so that he can play daddy every other weekend? He asks Molly if she really hates him so much before saying that he has so much love to give and nowhere to give it (conveniently forgetting that he has an already made family that I'm sure could benefit from it!) Molly tells him firmly that he must always act as if Jack is his best friend's son...as that's all he can ever be. Sally and Tyrone come back in with baby Jack and as they both coo over him, Molly and Kevin exchange a significant look. Kevin appears to accept what Molly has said.

Peter has got Carla back to her flat and he reiterates to her that she could have hurt someone. She laughs that it wouldn't have been worth getting done for anyway as she'd only had three glasses of wine. But from the way she is acting, one can only question what size the glasses were. As she gets snappy, Peter asks her again what happened and why it seems she is so angry at him. She looks troubled before telling him he has a party to get back to.

The party at the Joinery continues as Michelle and Ciaran tease Nick over Carla. Nick assures them that nothing is going on between them as Leanne looks over awkwardly.

John tells Fiz he has cracked the note...it's a dig about the Rosie ‘business' Fiz reminds him that that doesn't make it much better as that dark cloud haunts her still to this day but she agrees that it was a long time ago and someone obviously has too much time on their hands. John pretends to throw the note out but slips it into his back pocket.

Rosie is suggesting to Nick and Leanne that they should have a ‘No Over 39s' policy in here as all the oldies can go to the Rovers. Jason agrees and Nick and Leanne struggle to hide their amusement at the gormless pair. As Jordan and Peter, sorry Rosie and Jason, stumble away for a drunken grope, Nick asks Leanne where Peter is and if he has his priorities right. As the final guests leave, they are jubilant and Nick cracks open the champagne. As they drink, there is sexual tension in the air as the exchange heated glances.

Peter is urging Carla to think positive and suggests she uses a designated driver like Hayley for her work meetings. She tells him to stop trying to fix everything before admitting that there was only one big sorrow that she wanted to drown... him. He has got under her skin and this is no schoolgirl crush. As Peter looks stunned, Carla gets up and flees to another room.

Nick is asking Leanne that if Peter is so busy helping alcoholic mates, who is there to prop her up. Leanne asks him the same question and he replies that the thought of seeing her everyday props him up. He goes on to say that he wishes he could turn back time and change the way he behaved when he had the chance. Leanne interrupts him by thrusting a very forceful and wet kiss on him. He does nothing to resist and soon the pair are in a passionate clinch…

Carla comes back through and is surprised to find Peter still there. He tells her he is really flattered and she is absolutely gorgeous. If he didn't love Leanne he would have bitten her arm off. He puts his arm around her and she leans in for a kiss. Peter pushes her away and apologises for giving mixed signals but assures her that their friendship can get past this.

Rosie is not impressed to discover that she has misplaced her mobile phone so she and Jason hotfoot it back to the Joinery. A sheepish looking Leanne answers and she and Nick help the couple find the phone. After they leave, Leanne screeches to Nick that they have made a terrible mistake.

Pam has sensed that there is something wrong with Molly. Molly closes the door before telling her that Kevin has carried out a DNA test and is Jack's father. Pam asks if anyone else knows and Molly tearfully admits that Jack Senior did before his death as if he didn't have enough on his plate.

Peter is trying to persuade Carla that their friendship can survive this but Carla argues that every time she looks at him they will both know she fancies him. Peter assures her that those feelings will fade and the pair agree to just mutually support each other as friends from now on. But judging from the look on Carla's face, that may be easier said than done.

Leanne is panicking and blaming the champagne for their ill advised ‘bonk'. Nick tells her that they didn't bonk, they made love. She accuses him of planning it but he says he didn't force her to do anything, in fact she wanted it as much as he did.

Fiz and John run across the street towards the chippy, watched by a hooded figure.

Nick chases Leanne outside and cries that he loves her. She spins around and says all he is to her is an eye opener that she really loves Peter. After he says that she was singing from a different hymn sheet half an hour ago, she slaps him hard and tearfully orders him never to come near her again.

As a rejected Nick slinks off, the hooded figure posts a letter addressed to Mrs Stape through John's letterbox. As the figure turns, the culprit is revealed to the audience as Charlotte. (what a shocker!)

Pam is telling Molly that she made a mistake a long time ago and the only important thing now is that she loves Tyrone and Jack. Molly assures her that she does. She goes on to say that sometimes she wants desperately to tell Tyrone so he can hate her as much as she hates herself. Molly orders Molly to phone her anytime she feels like that and she'll talk her out of it in seconds.

Peter climbs in to bed. Leanne is lying crying but she pretends to be alive when Peter asks if she is awake. Peter lies on his back and looks deep in thought. It's clear that neither of the troubled couple is going to get much sleep tonight…

Monday 15 November

Written By Jayne Hollinson Directed by John Anderson

It's the morning after the night before. Nick is sitting in the kitchen, thoughtful. Gail asks how it all went and apologizes for not being there as she was with David who is worried about his test results that are still not back (yet Kevin got the DNA results in 24 hours!) Gail notes that Nick doesn't look like it was a big success but Nick lets her think it's just a hangover.

Leanne most definitely does look hungover. She listens in on Peter and Simon having a silly conversation over breakfast and retreats back into the bedroom in tears over what she's done. Hiding under the duvet isn't going to make it go away!

At the Stapes', Fiz is upset about the anonymous letter. John is trying to get her to forget it but she thinks it might have been Sally and wants to confront her. John points out it might not be her and he doesn't want to upset people after they've finally settled in and people have accepted him. Oh, he's so slick, isn't he? He tries to convince her that whoever is doing it is going to get bored after awhile and she calls him her hero for rising above it all (I may be sick!). Ches comes down and is ready for the off and hands them another letter that was put through the letterbox last night (that was Charlotte, you recall). It's a sympathy card addressed to Mrs. Stape and, in similar cut out letters, inside it says "You are in my thoughts". Nasty! John pretends it's a real sympathy card delivered in error to their house instead of the Dobbs'.

Becky and Steve have Amy and Max in the cafe for a treat and passes his mobile to the kids to say Happy Birthday to Grandad Jim. Steve tells Jim that they're looking after Max for awhile. "Amy's cousin on Becky's side"... wouldn't "Becky's nephew" have been easier to say? They're going to see Jim later! (Yay!) Eddie and Roy are debating the proper type of alcohol with which to douse the traditional Christmas cake. Roy insists brandy is proper and Eddie prefers the kick of sherry. Anna tells Hayley they've had a letter from Gary and she reads from it to them. It's warm and dusty there, they are playing footy, watching telly, the lads are a laugh, etc. Michelle comes in for a coffee and takes a call from Carla who's going to be late. Michelle is annoyed that she has to open up the factory and carry on on her own. Be careful what you wish for, Michelle, you're supposed to be an assistant manager trainee, I thought. Isn't this what you do?

Peter brings a mug of caffeine into Leanne. He apologizes for deserting her last night and says it was because of his friend Carl. She is upset and wishes he had stayed. She had nobody to celebrate with (oh yes she did!) She is planning to sleep a bit more and says she's not feeling well. Simon gives her his teddy and they leave her to cry over the bear.

Connie arrives at Number 9 and admires all the cards. Tyrone is trying to organize the funeral. Connie offers some good advice on hymns. Molly is distracted and runs out to check on the baby but Tyrone just thinks she's upset over Jack's death. Well, she is, of course, but we know there's more to it than that. Connie thinks Molly needs a bit of space. Connie asks Tyrone if he has called Terry yet. Not yet, no. Tyrone is dreading telling Terry that Jack didn't want his own son at the funeral. Connie offers to call instead but Tyrone mans up and says he can do it. Connie says it would be ok if he doesn't prevent Terry from coming if he feels it's the right thing to do.

Over at the Webster abode, Kevin is deep in troubled thoughts while the girls are fussing over Emily's reaction to them and how the pastor has rejected them too. Rosie is freaking out over her buttered toast and Kevin is grumpy with the lot of them.

In the Joinery, the lunchtime rush is on and there's no Leanne. Nick assures Ciaran Leanne will be in later but he's annoyed and worried. He tries calling again and leaving a snarky message about her letting the business down.

After the break, we're in the factory. The girls are chatting and Michelle is on the phone and she's realizing she's got an order wrong. She hurries out to tell the workers that they have to take the trim off the pieces she already told them to put on. Janice has a field day criticizing and they all tell her they can't because it leaves needle holes in the fabric. That and Janice's needling her makes her more annoyed and embarrassed and she tells them they'll have to start over. They can always use the trimmed ones for a different order later, Hayley points out. Carla arrives and scolds them all back to work. Michelle doesn't tell her about the mistake.

Charlotte arrives at the bookies, telling John she's off work on stress leave. John says they've had another letter and a card. She's acting all frantic and says she's had a similar card. She says she can't take much more and asks him to come round that night because he's the only one she can talk to. (which is her real motivation!) He puts her off, saying it's probably better they keep their distance. Fiz and the baby come first.

The factory bees have come into the Joinery for lunch. Snobby Nick says they're fully booked (not wanting the lowlife in his posh bar, no doubt). That doesn't put them off, Janice says they'll just eat at the bar though they've all already complained about the high prices and small portions.

Peter's buying flowers for Leanne but sees Carla approach. Carla apologizes for coming on to him the night before. She's not looking forward to having to take the bus if she loses her license from the drink driving charges. She tries to joke it away but Peter knows she wants to drink and she should come to meetings. She tries to avoid that particular (in her mind) Hell. They agree they're still mates and he says of course she can still check in if she needs it.

In the pub, Anna is reading Gary's letter out for Becky, much to Eddie's annoyance. Becky is happy for her. Becky asks after the adoption process. They're waiting to see if there's a child for them. Becky graciously congratulates them.

Molly brings the baby across the road to see if Ty has rung Terry. She tells Kevin about Jack not wanting Terry at the funeral. Tyrone finally goes into the office to make the call while Molly and Kevin exchange awkward words. On the phone, Tyrone has told Terry who immediately asks after a will. It seems that Terry doesn't want to come anyway and has made an excuse to Tyrone before he can even be told he's not welcome. "You're right. It's not like he won't know you're not there" Tyrone repeats down the phone so we know what Terry's saying. Tyrone puts down the phone angrily. It's Terry's attitude that ticks him off, isn't it? Pathetic excuses, and he didn't even care about his own father. Kevin reassures him that Ty was a better son to Jack and he'll be a smashing dad to his own Jack.

In the bar, Ciaran is on at Nick about where Leanne is and he's thinking that the boss no-showing is a premonition of disaster for the bar and his job. Nick testily says he'll sort it and stalks out.

Kevin arrives home. Sophie is saying that they're going to go to choir practice tonight. Rosie figures they should just stop believing and there's an argument until Kevin barks that he would like to have a bit of peace!

Nick is ringing Leanne's buzzer and she hollers down the intercom for him to leave. He insists on coming up so she lets him in.

Anna and Eddie are walking home and see an army officer at their door. Anne starts to moan. Becky sees this and when she goes into the pub, she looks shocked, telling Steve what she's seen. Steve says they always feared the visit of the uniformed officer when their dad was in the army. Said dad is right behind them. "That's very touching, so it is!" and we're off on the Jim McDonald drinking game (how many catch phrases will he use tonight!) He's gleefully welcomed with big hugs.

Nick and Leanne are arguing. She resigned, he refuses it. He tries to persuade her to think of the business, not to walk away from all her hard work. She accuses him, "You know what I'm walking away from!"

Over at the Windass's, the officer assures them that Gary's alive, just been injured.

Peter arrives home with the flowers and hears Nick and Leanne arguing but they haven't given anything away. Nick hollers "How are you going to explain this to Peter?" Peter comes in and wants to know what they're talking about. Stay tuned for part 2 to see how they get out of this one.

Peter arrives back at the flat asking for an explanation. Nick says Leanne wants to quit - Leanne back up his story. Peter tells Nick off and tells him to apologise - which he does and then departs. Leanne tells Peter he should not interfere. He hands over the flowers.

At the Windass residence we are told that Gary is being treated at Camp Bastion, with relatively minor injuries - he should make a full recovery. There were three losses, including Luke Quinn. Anna is upset.

The Webster household is discussing how to remember Jack. Sally is sure it will be a celebration of his life. Sophie and Sian do not want to go to the church - just to the crematorium. Kevin is clearly unhappy and tells them they should not be so self centred. Meanwhile Rosie is reading the newspaper (yes it is hard to remember that she once learned to read) and sees the headline "Bonkers Botox Boffin banged to rights" and she heads for the phone to let Jason know that some guy has been arrested. Sally tells Sophie they will support her 100%.

In the Rovers back room Jim McDonald, so he is, receives presents from Steve - including a new mobile phone. Liz is at a brewery function. Becky and Max arrive and Jim pronounces him a bonny wee man, so he is.

Back at the Windass residence, Anna is looking for passports to go to Afghanistan. Eddie comforts her and tells her that Gary is coming home - and he will be safe.

Peter is walking along the Street when Carla stops her car. She is going to miss the car when she loses her licence - which seems inevitable. She will have to find another form of excitement and Peter jokingly suggests one of Dev's kebabs and she suggests that "Karl" would accept an invitation to dinner but he knocks her back saying he is heading to a support meeting. She suggests skipping the meeting, but he won't. Michelle approaches them and Peter departs. Carla wants to finish some paperwork and tells Michelle she will see her tomorrow. Michelle is not impressed.

At the Joinery we see Leanne is back at work and tells Nick to get in the office as they need to sort out the books. Leanne tells Nick that it will not happen again. The business has a future - they do not. Carla is watching events.

After the break Leanne joins Carla and orders a bottle of Shiraz which she takes out with Carla. Michelle comes in and Carla tells her she has to go and talk to Leanne which they do on the other side of the bar. Carla keeps turning down top ups. Leanne starts complaining about "Karl" - the latter is getting far more attention than she is - she sounds jealous. Leanne asks if they can go back to the flat - and Leanne does not even stop to pay for the wine.

Steve and Jim discuss the quality of beer and Jack Duckworth and say a few words in his honour.

The Croppers and the Windass discuss Gary and his return. Roy confirms that any time which Anna needs to take off will be covered by full pay so that they can look after Gary. Roy wishes he had belief in the power of prayer, Eddie concurs but does not believe God is listening in relation to the events in the war zone.

Sophie and Sian turn up for choir practice - the pastor stops the practice and they insist on hearing what he has to say in public - as they hold hands. Sophie gives the pastor a piece of her mind. Sophie says they cannot live by his rule. She also says that he only hears what he wants to hear from God.

Michelle and Ciaran discuss events at the Factory and he reassures her that she can manage Janice. She cheers up and they kiss.

Leanne tells Carla that women like them are not supposed to be on their own. Carla demurs so Leanne asks Carla if there is anyone - she does not deny the answer and it is no-one Leanne knows and he is not married but he is spoken for. And they never fall for the good guys - Carla says Trevor was a good buy - but as Leanne points out she binned him (no pun intended). Leanne says they like it messy, messy, messy. Leanne says she has had one too many and it is alright with Peter, but Carla does not believe her - she can tell Carla. Leanne should not have taken the job - Nick has been brilliant, too brilliant and then Carla guesses that Leanne has slept with Nick. Leanne cries.

Becky is telling Steve that Max has been messed up by her sister and he really must stay with them.

Roy comes in and wants to say a few words. Becky rings the bell. Roy reports on Gary's incident and that three members of the unit died in action and he asks those present to join in a few moments silence. Jim stands and remembers fallen comrades past and present.

Back at the flat Leanne is telling Carla what happened, how she believed she could control it. But she did not realise what Nick was feeling, and Leanne was testing herself. She has told Nick it was a one-off but he does not believe it. Leanne is not going to quit - she has nearly killed herself trying to get the bar up and running. Leanne says she cannot run away - she has to get through it. Carla says she will be there for her. Peter arrives and Carla uses it to leave - she has had one drink all night and Leanne confirms that is the reason she is in a state. Carla hugs her and leaves with a closing shot on Leanne.

Well is it a good idea to tell your best friend who happens to have a thing for your fiance that you have just slept with the ex-husband? On the whole it is probably not the wisest move in the world.

See you all next week.

Thursday 18 November

Tyrone is getting stressed out, looking for a suitable tie to wear to the funeral. There's a knock on the door and Connie goes to answer it. It's Rita and Emily, bearing flowers and tissues. As Molly puts the kettle on, Pam asks quietly how she's holding on. "Ok I think," says Molly. Pam says she should be thinking about what Jack said. "I'm thinking about Tyrone, he needs me, that's all that matters," says Molly.

Over at the Websters, Kevin ponders that the day isn't going to be easy for Ty. Sally points out that he's got his family to focus on, his future, that'll pull him through.

Simon rushes up to Ken in the Street and tells him he's going to be his daddy's best man. Ken wonders what's happened to Ciaran. Peter hastily says that Simon's going to be his assistant. Peter tells Ken he's going to Jack's funeral so they'll meet there later. Leanne tells Peter she's feeling better now she's had some fresh air. "I bet you're glad you're done with mornings after," she says.

A horrified John opens the door to find Charlotte standing there. As she barges past him he splutters that Fiz has only popped out for some black tights, and he demands to know what she wants. She wants to sleep at night, she wants the peace of mind that he apparently has, she wants to know who is sending the letters. Just then the front door starts to open and, thinking it's Fiz, he hustles her out the back. It is, however, Chesney and his girlfriend. They thought John would be at the funeral. He tells them it's not for another hour yet, and they beg him not to tell Owen. As they head off upstairs he says he'll pretend he hasn't seen them. Once the coast is clear, he hauls Charlotte out of the kitchen and rushes her towards the door. "Quickly!" he snaps. On her way past the small table by the stairs, Charlotte picks up a bunch of keys lying there, and puts them into her pocket unnoticed by John who shoves her out into the street and slams the door. Outside, we see Charlotte grin as she folds her hand round the stolen keys that have a picture of Schmeichel on the key ring. Chesney's keys.

Peter is walking along carrying a large winning post wreath for Jack's funeral, and sees Carla getting out of her car outside the factory. She tells him she's been to the solicitor and the outlook isn't great, she'll probably need a taxi home from the hearing. She says he's the only one she can talk to. He tells her he can't stop, he's a coffin bearer at the funeral, but promises to call on her at home, later. As he goes to walk away she tells him she's been thinking about the support group he goes to, she might come with him next time. As they finish their conversation, Michelle comes out of the factory door and watches them.

Peter walks away and Michelle says she was wondering where Carla had got to. "More paperwork was it?" she asks, with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. Carla tells her it was, actually, and then apologises for the night before, saying she got waylaid with Leanne. "I understand, Leanne wanted a chat, Peter just now.... I'm only the employee," says Michelle. Carla tells her they've got all morning to talk, but then adds that she'll be knocking off early! As she walks towards the factory door, Carla then gets a phone call from a very worried Leanne. She tells her that everything she said the night before about her and Nick was rubbish, it was the drink talking and Carla should just forget it. Carla assures her she will.

Ty is in the backyard working on his speech for the funeral. Rita comes out and he tells her there's so much he wants to say but he can't write it all down, writing isn't his thing. She tells him to rip it up and use what's in his head and his heart. Just then Molly comes out to say that the cars have arrived.

Chesney and his girlfriend come out of the house, Chesney obviously wondering what's happened to his keys. Across the road, Charlotte watches from the Kabin doorway.

The funeral party come out of Tyrone and Molly's house - Connie, Pam, Rita, Emily and of course Ty and Molly. As he's stopped by the sight of the coffin, Molly tells Ty that Jack isn't in there, he's with Vera. The funeral cars are parked up, with their drivers standing beside. Other Street residents are lined up along the kerbs Claire, Ashley, Kirk, Sian, Sophie, Sally, Kevin, Rosie, Ken, all silent, it's very moving. As they drive off Jim MacDonald is outside the Rovers with Sean, and he starts clapping, a round of applause. The other residents join in as the funeral cortege moves off down the Street.

Next we see the coffin being carried into the crematorium to the strains of Cat Stevens ‘Father and Son' in the background. Tyrone puts a photo of Jack in front of the coffin and the service begins. Sitting amongst the congregation, Ashley wipes away a tear. Claire sees this and goes and sits beside him. They smile wanly at each other.

Back at The Joinery, Leanne has worked out the rota. Nick is irritated that she's made sure they never work alone together. She tells him it's for the best. He can't understand how she can still want to marry Peter when she's so afraid that she can't trust herself alone with Nick.

The funeral service continues, with Tyrone standing up to give a speech about Jack. He begins reading from his notes, but then screws them up and speaks from the heart. When he's finished he goes over to the coffin and breaks down in tears, and Kevin goes up and puts his arm round him and leads him back to his seat.

Anna and Eddie have arrived at the military hospital to see Gary, who is sitting on a bed amongst other wounded soldiers.

The mourners have gone back to the Rovers, where there's a lavish spread waiting for them.

Jim MacDonald is at the bar drowning his sorrows, regretting the fact that he ever let Liz go. Becky and Steve tell him he just has to move on.

Fiz and John arrive home and Chesney and Kat jump up off the sofa, Kat hastily doing up her buttons. They were apparently just talking! A row breaks out, and Kat leaves. Chesney says he's tired of being told what to do, he's 16 and earns his own money - he's moving out!

Back in the Rovers, Claire tells Ashley that during the funeral she suddenly realised how much Ashley means to her. He's more important than a French pipe-dream. He tells her he was put on this earth to make her happy and if that means moving to France - bring it on! They hug.

Peter goes round to see Carla as he promised, to find her dressed only in a towel. She says she just got out the shower, but her hair is dry. Then she admits it was about an hour ago. "What kept you? I might have got hypothermia!" she jokes. He tells her to get dressed, but she moves seductively towards him. "This can't happen," he tells her. "I know you want me Peter," she breathes. "I want Leanne more," he says, "that's why I'm marrying her." Carla tells him Leanne doesn't deserve him, but stops short of telling him why.

In the Rovers, Kevin is giving a speech about Jack and they all raise their glasses. Tyrone takes Molly to one side and tells her he wants them to have another baby! (For goodness sake, the poor girl has only just given birth to the one they have!) Molly looks horrified as Tyrone hugs her.

Friday 19 November

Hello, and welcome to Friday's first episode.

Molly and Tyrone talk, but while he wants to talk about having another baby, she wants to talk about anything but. Eventually Tyrone gets in that he wants to talk about trying for another baby. "I don't know that I'm ready - OK!" snaps Molly. "I'm knackered with the one I've got." Tyrone thinks that if they're going to have two they might as well get them out of the way. Molly takes baby Jack from his arms and sweeps off to feed him, cutting the conversation dead.

Sophie and Sian are going to test drive a different pastor today. Kevin asks them about it and they say they're going to find a church who will accept them as a couple. "Have a good gay . . . day," says Sally. She's woken in a really good mood, she tells Kevin when the girls have gone. She's remembering how different she felt at this time last year. Sally's thinking of taking Kevin off for a romantic date.

In the cafe, Chesney and Katie talk about getting their own place. If she got a part-time job she could move in with him. She says she'll tell her dad.

Peter can't understand why Leanne's doing a cooked breakfast when it's not the weekend. She doesn't want to be predictable and boring, she says. Leanne's finally decided to get into organising the wedding - after all, it's only a month away. She's thinking of Carla as a bridesmaid. Peter's a bit doubtful, which Leanne can't understand.

Ty's still going on. "The more you pressurize me, the less likely I am to be up for it," Molly explains as she cleans. She tells him to go off to work.

Katie and Chesney are at the builders' yard. "I thought I banned you from seeing each other," says Owen. Chesney suggests they go somewhere and sit down. Owen immediately assumes Katie is pregnant. He's seen those documentaries. "We're moving in together," she says. Owen tells her she's not. She argues that he's just jealous of her having a relationship and Chesney assures him he'll take care of Katie. "Let's go look for a place," she says and takes Chesney away. Owen storms back upstairs and shouts at Eileen for no reason that she can see.

Fiz arrives home to find a packet through the door. It's a DVD and she puts it into the player. We don't see what it is but she's immediately on the phone telling John to come how now. "Someone's been in our house!"

Eileen counts out her own wages. "This is in the wrong order!" Owen tells her, waving some paperwork. "It's in date order," she says. "I want it in invoice order, Eileen! How many times!!???" he shouts, storming out. "Right then," says Eileen, counting herself out a bonus.

Kevin tells Tyrone he thought he did a wicked day yesterday. Everything was just right. Tyrone says he just wishes he was as successful with Molly and explains that she doesn't want to talk about it. Kevin explains that Molly will be all babied out at the moment and the thought of going through it all again will be a bit scary. "You sound just like her," says an annoyed Tyrone.

Peter greets Owen outside. He mentions he noticed Jim didn't stick around for long yesterday.

Fiz is showing John the DVD, which shows the house and ginnel, then the doorway at Underworld.

"Hiya Mum babe!" says Rosie as Sally arrives home while she's exercising on the sofa (yes, true!). Sally tells her she's going on a romantic tryst tonight. Rosie is shocked until Sally tells her it's with Kevin. She says they're going to The Joinery. Sally looks hurt when Rosie suggests that's a bit young for them. Rosie suggests giving Sally a makeover.

Emily puts out the milk bottles just as Sophie and Sian walk past. She apologises for seeming short the other day. "I've always had a rather literal view of the Scriptures, I'm afraid." Sophie says she tries to be a good person. "I didn't make me gay. God made me gay," she says. "The Bible says . . ." begins Emily. ". . .don't eat shellfish," finishes Sophie. "Have you ever had prawns? Exactly. So don't tell me how to live my life." Eileen protests that she'd never do that. "I do love you Sophie and I try my best to be here for you." Sophie thanks her but doesn't continue the conversation.

Carla's on the red wine in The Joinery, teasing Leanne about her wedding planning. Michelle comes over and asks Carla what's wrong. She's been in a weird mood all day. Carla tells her she always falls for the wrong guys. Michelle thinks she's a dark horse. Peter arrives and greets Carla. She pointedly asks Ciaran for another bottle of wine. She and Michelle go to sit at a table. Carla says she hasn't actually fallen for someone, she's just been thinking back.

Tyrone appears to be trying to fix a car in the dark. He sees Molly pushing Jack's pram and calls her over. "Kev, don't you think we should have another baby?" Kevin's staying out of it. Molly is appalled. "You sound like a four-year-old. Stop banging on like I'm some sort of harridan who's put my foot down," she says. She says she's not sure but she's not ruling it out. "You just want more sex," she says. Now it's Tyrone who doesn't want to talk about it. But Molly says he started it. He storms away. Molly explains to Kevin that Tyrone seems obsessed. Kevin understands.

Becky meets Anna and Eddie and they tell her that Gary's in a hospital in Birmingham and says he's all right. Anna weeps. "He should be home in a couple of weeks," she says. Becky takes her by the purse strap and drags the two of them off to the Rovers for a free drink.

Kevin tells Molly she should only do what she wants to do.

In The Joinery, Carla's well away and asks for another bottle, saying Michelle's got a right thirst for it. Nick orders it for her and borrows Leanne from Peter for a few minutes. He takes her into the office, saying there are some forms for her to sign but it's a lie. "I'm jealous when you're with him" he says. "Nick, don't do this to me. I can't cope with it," Leanne says, pushing him away.

Rosie's singing as she works on her mother's make-up. she's actually made quite a good job. Sophie and Sian come in. They quite like the new pastor. Sophie's a bit tearful.

Fiz is furious. She can't understand why someone would film where she lives and where she works. "I feel violated." She's going to ring the police.

Outside the Rovers, Owen intercepts a florist delivery van bringing flowers for Liz. He says he'll take them for her, but when he reads the card and sees it's from Jim suggesting they meet at the Flying Horse tonight he heads off in the opposite direction.

Molly goes into the pub and Kevin is there. "Sorry about earlier," she says. Kevin asks what she's going to do. On one level it would solve a lot of problems, she says. But no matter how many kids she has with Tyrone, Jack will always be Kevin's."

In a booth, Sean notices Eileen's new handbag. "So what did you do then - rob a bank?" "No, me boss," she tells him. "He's so vile to me I deserve a little bonus now and then."

Molly tells Kevin that before Jack Duckworth died he told her it wouldn't be right to string Tyrone along. Kevin says he's losing track of what's right. "This feels right - us, me and you." Kevin's shocked. He loves Sally. Molly says he was so nice to her today and she can't fight it - she's not over him. "All these feelings . . . they're still there. I'm still in love with you."

Oooh!
The End

Straight in to episode two (he says as if this update isn't even slightly late)

Sally is ready to go and is dressed up to the nines. But there's one thing missing and that's Kevin. He is busy sitting with his former harlot Molly who is pleading with him to see that there is so much they could have together. She says that Sally is over her cancer and doesn't need him anymore but he tells her that he loves Sally before leaving.

Fiz is searching for the phonebook so that she can ring Weatherfield police station. John tries to talk her out of calling the police and reminds her he could end up in jail. Fiz retorts that they have the safety of their baby to think of and finds the book. As she dials the number, John hangs up and says he'll take the tape to the police station himself.

Sally comes round to Tyrone's looking for Kevin. Molly looks awkward when she sees her. After Sally leaves, Molly insists that she takes Jack from Tyrone.

Fiz is having Hayley and Roy round as she doesn't feel safe alone. She tells them about what has been going on.

Carla joins peter for a cigarette outside. He is cold with her when she asks if he will accompany her to court. He eventually softens and agrees to go.

Sally finds Kevin back at home. He takes a look at her and tells her that she looks amazing and always does. She smiles at him.

Molly is holding Jack as Tyrone asks her what's wrong. She is about to deliver some form of revelation when Jack vomits on her shoulder.

Peter tells Leanne that Simon has a Christmas concert next week before leaving. Carla watches from afar before heading over to Nick and hinting that Leanne's heart doesn't really lie with Peter. She knowingly says that the first love never dies, leaving Nick looking thoughtful (I know, wonders never cease)

John is showing Charlotte the DVD that has been left. He watches her reaction closely and says that it must be someone who knew their every move who is behind this. Her or him. And he knows that it wasn't him.

Owen finds Jim drinking in the Flying Horse and dumps the flowers he sent Liz, telling him he can keep them. Jim looks amused and realises that Liz never asked him to return them. Owen tells him to stay away but Jim merely mocks him.

Charlotte is aghast that John is accusing her again. He suggests that she has been sending letters to herself. Suddenly her phone rings and she answers. She panics and pretends that it is the stalker ringing her. She has her phone hidden in her pocket. John apologises and decides that he must be wrong.

Kevin and Sally are all smiles as they enjoy a meal.

Nick watches Leanne, making her feel uncomfortable. She tries to avoid him.

John is still saying sorry to Charlotte. She says that she is as scared as him and it's worse for her as there is no one to protect her. John pulls her into a hug.

Jim comes into the Rovers to see Owen drinking there. He smugly tells Steve what Owen did by intercepting Liz's flowers. Owen looks angry.

Molly keeps texting Kevin and eventually he is forced to leave Sally in the lurch. He promises to be very quick.

John gets home and Fiz is eager to know what the police have said. He assures her that they are looking into it but she looks skeptical. Meanwhile. Roy is examining the notes and trying to get to the bottom of it.

Kevin and Molly meet up and she tells him that she has been thinking they should move away together. He tells her that there is no chance, he loves Sally and she had better get used to it. If she leaves Tyrone, she will be alone.

Owen is asking Steve what he would do in his position. Jim keeps appearing and disappearing in Liz's life but Owen wants to be constant. Steve agrees that Jim can be a handful.

Tyrone fusses over Molly when she gets home and she tries to hide her tears. As Tyrone puts jack to bed, Molly bursts into tears.

Nick and Leanne close up for the night. She tells him to back off as he stares at her and says that she wants to put it behind them. He makes her look him in the eye, and amazingly, rather than being repulsed, she ends up back in his arms, kissing him.

Monday 22 November

Written By Jan McVerry Directed by Kay Patrick

The girls are bickering over breakfast at Chez Webster, with the usual sisterly insults thrown around. Kevin is grumpy and silent and Sophie reckons he's still ticked at having had to go on a breakdown during his date with his wife and then the person that called wasn't even there anymore. (When he was actually with Molly).

Molly is off in Never Never land while dealing with that adorable baby. Ty offers his help if she needs a break and she rudely says she can cope just fine thanks. He figures she's angry because he wants another baby. He suggests they have the afternoon off to go out for a drive. He wants to scatter Jack and Vera's ashes in Blackpool. This takes Molly up short and she wonders if he's up to it. He seems to be, as it has to be done sometime. He'll be ok as long as he has his family with him.

Chesney picks up the morning post. It's John's birthday and Chesney urges him to open the cards that have arrived. John's not bothered and Fiz snaps his head off so he goes off in a strop. Fiz is really angry that the police haven't got back to them. John promises to follow up. His phone rings and it's Charlotte in a panic who says there's someone in her house so he runs off, saying there's an emergency at work, a burst pipe.

Carla is leaving another message for Peter. It's her day in court and she is reminding him that he was going to go with her. Michelle comes in and Carla hangs up the phone quickly. She sets Michelle to a dusty stock room job. Michelle is not impressed.

Graeme is back at work in the butchery and is in fine form, with the usual "offal" jokes. Claire and the kiddies come in and Josh tries to order sausage in French. Ashley looks uncomfortable and Claire decides to leave it there and takes the kids off. Graeme thinks Claire is teaching the kids French just for a holiday. Ashley doesn't tell him any different.

Outside, Nick is returning from an morning run and encounters Leanne. It's all smiles and giggles now. Cheryl runs up and asks for some time off to take Russ to the dentist. They agree and Cheryl and Russ leave again. There's more flirting and puppy eyes. Bleurgh. Nick watches her strut away.

John arrived at Charlotte's and has checked all the rooms. Nobody there. She admits they must have gone and offers him a cuppa while he's there. She brings out a birthday cake with a candle.

Jason has changed the locks on Number 5. Owen comes across and takes the time to insult Chesney to Fiz because Chesney and Katy want to move out. Fiz is in no mood and tells him to Do One! He tries to shove the door open and she tells him off good and proper, not having any of his bullying. Don't mess around with Fiz when she's angry. She's still Cilla's daughter and she's hormonal on top of it. Peter comes across the road shouting and all, looking for John who never showed up. She finds out there was no leak or other problem. Peter is huffy because he needs to be somewhere (court). She screams at both of them and slams the door in their faces. Inside she grabs the phone to ring John.

Who is standing there with Charlotte who's trying to fob a piece of posh Patisserie cake off on him. He finds it awfully convenient she'd had a "break in" on the same day she'd got him a cake. She tries spoon feeding him but he backs away and says he's got to go. She hands him a book for as his gift, quite a good one and he's impressed. She gives him the rest of the cake in a box. He gives up and leaves.

Fiz finally makes it in to work and is on her last nerve. She tells the girls she just didn't sleep well. Hayley thinks it's really the problems with the flowers at the factory and everything else and Fiz realizes that Roy thinks whoever is doing all this might actually be after her personally. Oh Great! Michelle comes out from the office but only wants to know if Fiz has seen Carla as there's an appointment in the book and Carla's nowhere to be found.

Carla's in her flat almost ready to leave for court. No Peter. She's clearly nervous as she tries his number again and gets voice mail.

Nick and Leanne are just about to have a tryst in the office at the bar but hear Ciaran come in before they're completely disrobed. Leanne throws a glass of cold water over Nick and he jumps out of the office, pretending he's spilled it on himself to explain why his shirt is undone. Leanne sorts out her dress and when she comes out, she scolds Nick for not having a spare clean shirt on the premises.

Peter is outside Carla's flat when she emerges to take her to the court hearing.

Tyrone asks Kevin for a few hours off to go to Blackpool. No problem. Kevin tells Ty to go pick up Connie and he'll call Molly and tell her when he's on his way. (that didn't really make sense to me. Why didn't Tyrone just take Molly with him?)

Izzy tells Hayley that she's heard from Gary but just by text. Owen arrives just then and mentions that Fiz gobbed off at him this morning about Katy and Chesney's flat. Doesn't seem like Izzy thinks it's a good idea either. She and Hayley both think Owen barging in like an angry bull is only counter-productive.

Molly is over at the garage waiting for Tyrone and thought Kevin had called her to talk over more serious things. They don't get too far because Sophie comes up to coo over the baby and is allowed to take the push chair for a walk around the block while they're waiting for Tyrone.

Michelle is moaning in the Joinery and Ciaran is providing a lovely broad shoulder for her to gripe about Carla being missing again. She'd had to put up with a snotty client who made a fool of her in front of everyone when she mispronounced something. Ciaran is suitably supportive.

In the butcher shop, Sally is asking for New Zealand lamb for a recipe. Ashley only has Welsh but assures her it will just fine. He tells Sally that he and Claire are working things out. Graeme is wibbling on about something or other as usual.

Molly is trying to convince Kevin that they could get on just fine after they leave their spouses. She would be a great step mom to his girls. Kevin doesn't have time for this conversation. She thinks everyone would get used to it and he doesn't want to know. He's not showing any signs of being persuaded. She is convinced he wants to be with her deep down. Tyrone drives up with Connie and they take off, planning to catch Sophie and the baby on Tile Street.

Claire comes back to the shop and she realizes that Ashley hasn't told Graeme that he's going to move to France and sell the shop. She puts the Closed sign up and they tell him the bad news. He's heartbroken.

Fiz jumps when someone knocks at the door but it turns out to be an elderly woman.

Carla and Peter arrive back at the flat. She's had a fine, a 12 month ban and lost 6 points off her license. She's bitter and insulting to one and all. He sighs and gives her the cards for a cab and a the alcohol support group. She figures he's had enough of her. Just enough of her ear bashing, he says and he turns and leaves.

Back at Number 5, Fiz has been feeding the woman cups of tea when John finally gets home, much to her consternation. The woman is introduced as Joy Fishwick, Colin's mother. Seems she's not heard from Colin for months. She tracked down this address from one of the teaching pals in Rochdale. John makes out he's not seen Colin for ages, too. His smile is frozen on and his eye are starting to widen in panic.

Tvor

Good evening welcome to another slice of action from Weatherfield,

written by Julie Jones and directed by Kay Patrick.

Colin Fishwick's mother is at the Stape residence. She is worried because Colin did not even phone her on her birthday. She wants to know if they have any idea where he might be - his mobile is completely dead and no-one has any idea of his whereabouts. In the kitchen Fiz wants to know why John was not at work this morning and why Peter was looking for him - he dodges. Anyway Mrs Fishwick reveals that her heart is on its last legs - she may only have a matter of months and she wants to see him before her time is up. She and her son have had their ups and downs - but she wants to make it up. Fiz says that she thought Colin was working in a bookshop in town.

At the Webster residence Sally, Sophie and Sian and cooking and Rosie is on the phone to Jason - whilst Kev is off out and will have his later - he wants some peace and quiet.

Chesney and Katie ask Jason how much he wants for rent on the flat. Jason wants £350 and Rosie tells them about all the other bills. Jason has some students interested. Katie and Rosie bicker before Katie storms off when Rosie makes it quite clear that they are way out of their league in considering the flat.

At the butchers Graeme tells Ashley how much he will miss him (little does he know that we know what we know now) once he has moved to France. Ashley has been like a father to him - but Ashley breaks the moment deliberately and they get on with the cleaning. They discuss painting the shop to appeal to a potential buyer - but the market is not good at the moment.

Along at the Joinery Nick is ordering Leanne into the back when Peter arrives and kisses Leanne. Nick is unhappy. Carla arrives and has a large glass of red whilst Peter has an orange juice. Nick asks Carla how her new gopher (Michelle) is working out. Carla reckons she is doing a good job.

Across to the Rovers booth where Fiz is still trying to get to the bottom of John's whereabouts this morning. As he says it was something and nothing. Apparently there was no leak at work. John creates a story about Leanne having demanded help in the flat because of a leaking pipe and Peter complaining because he was not at work. John says he had to do it because Leanne is his boss. They talk about Mrs Fishwick and the missing Colin. Anyway John reminds Fiz that she is not on particularly good terms with Cilla and they only know one side of the Fishwick story. Fiz still reckons it is sad. Anyway she is sorry the visit has ruined John's birthday and they head off to get a take away.

Ashley and Claire discuss Graeme being out of work. Claire reckons it will be the making of Graeme once he is free of being a butcher. Ashley goes to get another drink and Claire asks for a Croque Monsieur but Ashley says they will have no truck with foreign stuff here. As Ashley observes it is a ham and cheese toastie - but to Claire it will taste far better if ordered in French!

Waiting outside the Stape's is Mrs Fishwick. She tells them the story of Colin getting beaten up at the bookshop, leaving him in a terrible state. No-one has seen him since the beating. Mrs Fishwick almost collapses and Fiz tells John to summon an ambulance.

After the break they all go indoors and get her sat down - she needs her puffer and Fiz finds it in her bag. This brings some relief and a cup of tea seems in order. She is quite distressed and she wants to know what happened to her Colin.

Molly and Ty are in the Rovers. He tells her how important it is to live very day of your life - today has made him realise this. [Molly listen to what he is saying and act on it]. Or perhaps not, Kevin comes in and sees them together. They threw the ashes off the North Pier in Blackpool. Sally asks Ty if he knows what is wrong with Kev who is standing morosely at the bar. Ty doesn't know and Molly is not saying. Sally reckons she will drag it out of him eventually, she always does.

Jason and Rosie are in the Joinery and Jason is complaining about the olives - Rosie says they are not meant to be liked - but Jason wants some proper food. They bicker - as if they are the next Jack and Vera ... you know it is not really meant - this looks like a natural partnership, it has taken ages to come together and yet somehow just seems to work, well done to the two concerned (although Rosie does seem to have developed a taste for less revealing clothing which has some drawbacks!).

Carla observes Nick and Leanne avoiding each other. She then guesses that Leanne and Nick have had a rematch and Leanne says nothing admitting her guilt. Peter returns and wants to know what the girls are talking about!

In the Rovers Molly gives Kev a piece of her mind and scattering the ashes has upset her.

John rings for a taxi. Colin Fishwick did a moonflight flit from his B&B and she had to settle the bill. John dissuades her from ringing the police. Apparently he has been on the wacky baccy in the past and it might be a woman - she will let sleeping dogs lie. She has lost touch with her son before - although a complete dead end like this has not happened before. [Lovely line - a complete "dead" end - and beautifully delivered].

At the kebab shop Graeme is recounting his discussion with Ashley to Tina. Graeme suggests that he gets a bank loan and he can then offer to buy the butchers. Graeme reckons he could be a master butcher and Tina turns down the role of his assistant.

Chesney and Katie discuss the situation and acknowledge that for all her abrasiveness, Rosie has a point, they have not a hope in hell of affording a flat and they need to look for something less expensive. As if to prove their need Owen comes storming into the kebab shop and tells Katie to go home and do her homework. She responds by saying he cannot talk to her like that and in fact she has already completed her homework. Owen and Katie argue and he threatens to drag her out of the place.

Rosie suggest to Nick that they can improve the Joinery by having cage fighters above the bar - and she even suggest that Jason (who is tucking into a huge plate of food) would happily be one of them. Somehow I think Nick wants something classier than that!

Peter departs to put Simon to bed and he kisses Leanne and goes. Carla departs leaving Nick and Leanne together. Outside Carla apologises for her attitude and offers her thanks for his company earlier in the day. Carla refuses to do buses and may get herself a young fanciable chauffeur. Carla points out that she has had more come backs than Tom Jones (did he ever go away) and she strides off into the night.

Ashley and Claire are trying to learn some French - but it is not going well. Tina and Graeme join them. Claire is playing them French tapes during the night. Graeme has had a brainwave - he would like to buy it. Ashley is not so sure.

Fiz and John discuss Mrs Fishwick's visit - and Fiz is upset by the news that Colin has never been seen again. Fiz reckons that all the odd events are down to Colin - but John doubts Colin can be responsible. Fiz tells John he will have to track down Colin and make him stop.

And that's my lot for this week. Julie Jones has managed to work some wonderful lines into this episode - foreshadowing the impending doom ass well as the dead-end which is Colin.

I will be back before long. Anne will no doubt be along shortly.

Thursday 25 November

Fiz is sitting with a cold cuppa when John comes downstairs. She tells him they're going through all this stress and hassle just so that he could spend a few weeks teaching. He points out it was supposed to be for the next 30 years, and give them security. Fiz doesn't think they're very secure now, and the list of people who've been dragged into it all just goes on and on. Colin Fishwick is stalking them, he brought that mad mare Charlotte into their lives, Brian from school was dragged into the charade, then Julie, Chesney....and now Colin Fishwick's mother! Fiz thought she was going to drop dead on their floor last night!

Gail is crossing the Street when she sees Anna, who tells her that Gary is coming home today. Gail passes on good wishes. The next person she sees is Graeme, who looks around guiltily. "Does Tina not want you talking to me?" she asks. He tells her it's a gray area, and asks how David is. She tells him that he's got an appointment with the neurologist later so they'll finally get a diagnosis, she'll let him know what happens.

Michelle walks into the office as Carla, who has been trying to speak to Peter, hastily hangs up the phone. Michelle looks at her suspiciously and Carla mumbles something about call centres and her broadband playing up. (Though why the boss should have to explain a phone call to an employee is somewhat beyond me!) After a quick reminder that what Michelle hears in the office must remain confidential, Carla hands Michelle her car keys and asks her to take some samples to a customer. "In your car?" says Michelle in disbelief. Carla asks if she'd rather take the bus. Michelle says the car is fine, so Carla goes off to check stock. While she's out of the room, Michelle picks up the phone and presses the redial button. Of course, it rings Peter's phone. He answers it, seeing Carla's number, and doesn't waiting to check who is on the line. "I've told you to stop ringing me like this," he says. Michelle hangs up, looking disgusted.

Kevin comes out of Roy's Rolls and bumps into Pam. She's really angry with him, and then he tells her that Molly wants them to get back together, but it's the last thing he wants. "Well, you'd best do something about it then, if it's not what you want!" snaps Pam. She tells him he didn't give a toss about his wife and family when he took advantage of a vulnerable, silly girl. He led her on and then dropped her like a stone. Kevin protests that his wife got cancer and no one knows how much he wanted the baby to be Tyrone's. Pam says that baby is Tyrone's, it's his name on the birth certificate. She says she's going to tell Molly to stop wasting her time on a disgusting, selfish, waste of skin like him.

Eddie pulls up at the kerb in his taxi and out gets Gary. His mum comes out to greet him, and Kirk and Izzy who are passing, come over and ask how he is, and tell him how sorry they were to hear about Quinny. Anna hustles him inside.

Fiz marches into the bookies. She's just been talking to the police, she went to withdraw their statement in case it unearthed Colin Fishwick. The police, however, didn't know what she was talking about. John confesses that he never reported it, because he didn't want them to find Colin. Fiz points out that the lies never stop. John promises that they will. "Oh, where have I heard that before!" snaps Fiz.

Pam goes to see Molly and tells her that she spoke to Kevin who wants her to back off. Pam doesn't know what's going on in Molly's head. Molly tells her that she wants to be with Kevin and their baby, and she's convinced it's what he wants too.

David, accompanied by Gail and Audrey, goes to the doctor's office for his results. It would seem that he has idiopathic epilepsy. They can't pinpoint a specific cause, but it could have been the cause of the accident. When they step out of the office, they find Graeme waiting outside, he wants to know what's been said. David tells him he's now officially epileptic. Graeme thinks it's great news, although David doesn't. Graeme thinks no jury in the land would convict him if the doctor has said he's prone to blackouts. The two of them go off for a pint together.

John is visiting Charlotte and tells her about Colin's mother. Charlotte thinks she might find things out, there's always a trail, they could have missed something. John can't see that Joy Fishwick could be a problem. Charlotte then wonders if Mrs Fishwick could be the stalker. "She's a sick old lady!" says John. Charlotte says she might be pretending. Charlotte thinks she's dangerous, and then muses that as she has a weak heart, something like a paper bag bursting behind her could be enough to finish her off. John thinks that's a sick idea.

Michelle goes into The Joinery and orders a tonic water, she's not drinking because Carla has entrusted her with the car, giving her more responsibility. She then calls Ciaran over and they sit down. She tells him about the call to Peter that Carla lied about. She thinks there's something going on, but Ciaran won't have it. Not Peter and Carla, no way. Michelle reminds him that Peter's a bigamist, a man who likes living on the edge, but still Ciaran won't have it. Just then Peter comes in to see Leanne!

In the Windass house, Gary sits and stares morosely at the tv. Anna and Eddie worry about him in the kitchen, and then Anna goes out and offers him food. Gary points out that she's done nothing but force food down his throat since he got home, and he's fine. Anna tells him it might help to talk about it, and Eddie points out that he's a hero. Gary refutes this, saying it's Quinny who was the hero, if it wasn't for him Gary wouldn't be here now, and that's what he's going to tell him mum and dad tomorrow. He and Gary promised each other that if anything happened to either of them they would go to the other's parents and tell them what really happened, not just the official version. Anna and Eddie wonder if Gary is up to it, but he snaps at them and hobbles out of the room.

Leanne and Peter join Michelle and Ciaran at their table, and make jokes about Ciaran's best man speech. Then Ciaran tells them that Carla has handed her car keys over to Michelle and wonders why. "I can't imagine what's behind it," says Michelle. Peter says he thinks she's been through a lot, and that changes people. Just then Nick comes over to call Ciaran to the kitchen, they've had some food orders, and Michelle says she has to go and pick Carla up, she's working late. Nick asks Peter if he minds if Leanne stays till closing time. Peter says it's up to her.

Pam and Molly are in the pub. Pam warns Molly that if she goes ahead with this silly fantasy of running off with Kevin, she'll fall out with all her friends and family. Molly tells Pam she hasn't seen the way Kevin looks at Jack, and the way he looks at her. "No," says Pam, "but I have seen the way he looks at Sally." Molly says that even if that's so, nothing will change the way she feels about Tyrone. Pam reminds her that not long ago she was the happiest bride in Manchester, and she went back to Tyrone because she said she loved him. Everything was fine until Kevin turned her head. She tells her that no child could wish for a better father than Tyrone, and if she gives it a go with Ty, in six months she'll be so glad she did, and she thinks the idea of another baby is wonderful. "You fell in love with Tyrone once," she says, "and I think when you start trying for that baby it'll happen all over again."

John is having an attack of conscience. He tells Charlotte he's messed up her life with his selfishness, and so many other people's lives. He tells her she should just walk away from him right now. Charlotte reminds him there's a stalker. "You might let me walk away, but they won't." She tells him they need each other to get through this. She snuggles into his shoulder. "Charlotte and John against the world!"

On their own at the table, Ciaran asks Peter if he's had any second thoughts about his wedding, or any final flings. Peter says he hasn't. Ciaran asks again and Peter asks why he's asking. Ciaran explains that Michelle heard Carla on the phone to him earlier. "So you and Michelle think I'm having an affair with Carla?" says Peter, with an edge to his voice. Ciaran says he told Michelle there would be an innocent explanation. Peter tells him that he's not having an affair with Carla or anyone else, and angrily picks up his jacket and leaves. Leanne sees him go and wonders what's up. Ciaran tells her he was just late picking up Simon.

Lolling all over John on the sofa, Charlotte has fallen asleep. John extricates himself and heads for the front door, only to find it locked, with no sign of the key. (Great if there's a fire!) He starts hunting through cupboards and drawers for the key and comes across Chesney's keyring, easily identifiable by the picture on the key ring of Chesney and Schmeichel. Then he finds a piece of newspaper with certain letters cut out. Frowning he looks over at the sleeping Charlotte on the sofa. The penny has dropped!

Friday 26 November

Friday morning and Fiz comes down to breakfast. John hastily covers the keys on the table. He tells Fiz he'll be in the bookies' all day. As soon as she's gone he looks at the keys.

Izzy's in the Kabin when Owen comes in. They talk about Katie. Izzy warns him that he should be careful not to drive Katie away. Tina comes in really annoyed that David's not being prosecuted for hitting Graeme.

Michelle speculates about why Carla's ringing Peter. Ciaran tells her there could be lots of reasons and says she should put it out of her head. She arrives at the factory to discover the machinists locked out in the cold. "If it were one of us who were late we'd have our wages docked," Fiz points out. Michelle's surprised that Carla's not there.

Tyrone's still trying to talk to Molly about having another baby. He expects to be given the brush-off but she says she now thinks maybe they should. "Don't go broadcasting it," she says. Sally calls around. She's wondering whether Molly wants to go shopping since she's got the day off. Rosie will be going to.

Gail's indulging in a bit of "I knew it," despite doubting David. She thinks David's life will be blighted by the epilepsy diagnosis. "Poor lad. Still, at least it means he can come home!" Nick seems less than interested.

Anna's in the kitchen serving Gary. He's had a sleepless night but says he has to see Quinny's mum and dad. He just wants her to leave him alone.

Fiz takes the cake order. Janice is still on her diet but says to get her a custard slice and she'll only eat half. In the office, Carla tells Michelle she slept through the alarm. Michelle thinks she needs a new fella but Carla says she doesn't need a man.

As Fiz intercepts the postie and takes delivery of something for number 5, Nick meets Leanne and tells her the house is empty. He invites her in and after a quick look around to see if anyone's watching she follows him.

Fiz calls in to see John. A photo of Fiz has arrived and on the back is the message "The final journey." Fiz thinks it means a stalker is going to kill her. John assures her he's going to find Colin and give him one last warning. If the notes don't stop then he'll go to the police, no matter what it means for him. When she goes, John asks Peter for some more time off.

Katie's in the cafe when Owen comes in. He says he wants a chat. She tries to duck out when he's not looking but he stops her.

Leanne and Nick come downstairs just in time as Gail and David arrive home. Nick says they've been working from home. Leanne says she left her bag upstairs when she went to the loo and Nick rushes up to get it.

Owen wants to talk to Katie about Chesney. He asks if they're serious. He tells her he can't understand why they have to rush into sleeping together. He asks if they're taking precautions and an appalled Katie says they are. He says he wants to see the two of them together.

Molly and Sally are about to head off to the shops. Rosie's apparently gone to ask Jason for some money because Kevin wouldn't give her any.

Carla sees Peter in the street and calls across to him, watched by a very suspicious Michelle.

Carla tells Peter she hasn't told anyone about the conviction. Michelle thinks it's part of her job to drive Carla around. Peter asks about the drinking and Carla says it's back under control, which is where it's staying. Michelle, sitting in a parked car, watches them talk.

Tina and Graeme are in the pub when David and Nick come in. Michelle warns him not to come anywhere near them. Michelle hustles Graeme out of there. Nick tells David he's glad they dropped the case but not glad about the epilepsy.

In a booth, Janice moans about Michelle being parachuted into management. Owen comes in and asks Fiz if he can have a word.

Tina takes Graeme into the Kabin and tells Rita that David's now decided he's got epilepsy. Graeme tries to defend David but Tina thinks it's all an act.

The machinists head back towards the factory. As they leave the pub, Gary comes in and Izzy asks the others to make an excuse for her being late back. Gary tells her he's going to see Quinny's parents but he's not looking forward to it. Izzy suggests a drink tonight to help him get over it.

In the street, Michelle decides to confront Peter, even though he'll probably say it's none of her business. "I keep seeing you having cosy little chats with Carla. What's going on?" Peter wonders if she's been talking to Ciaran. "We've already had all this," he says. Michelle says it's what she's seen with her own eyes - Peter and Carla looking as if they're sharing secrets. Peter says there's nothing going on but refuses to tell her what he and Carla have been talking about.

John leaves the shop and says he'll be back as soon as he can.

From the balcony outside the yard office, Owen watches as Katie and Chesney talk about Owen's wish to speak to them together. Chesney doesn't want to see him but doesn't want Owen to think he's scared, either.

John arrives at Charlotte's place with the photo. Doesn't this woman ever work any more? Did I miss her getting sacked? He tells her to look at the back but says she doesn't really need to because she wrote it. He tells her he found the keys and the magazine clippings used to make the nasty messages. Charlotte pauses, then admits it. She says John knew that already because they're both game players. She agrees it's time to move on. "Sit down. I'll get you something to drink." John thinks she's mad but he sits down.

In the yard office, Katie and Chesney sit on the sofa and Ches stuffs crisps into his mouth as Owen asks if they want to be treated like adults. "Are you going to listen to me?" Owen demands. He says being an adult is about keeping promises and not expecting everything to be handed to them on a plate. They've been looking for a place together and have discovered it's too expensive, so he's willing to agree that Katie can stay at Chesney's place "but in return I expect a bit of respect and good manners and a smile on your face instead of looking as if you've just bitten into a slice of lemon." Katie and Chesney check he really does mean it, then thank him and skedaddle before he can change his mind.

Charlotte and John drink wine - at least they would, but John puts his down. He asks if she realises what a state Fiz is in. It's not a game. He doesn't want to see or hear Charlotte again. Charlotte says he should leave Fiz. They can't be happy. "She's as thick as a plank. John, you deserve someone better." She suggests he ring Fiz and tell her it's over and stay there. John's angry now. He says it all has to stop. He doesn't want to see another letter or photo. "Or what?" asks Charlotte. She points out he can't follow up his threats. He can't go to the police and he can't tell Fiz what really happened to Colin. "What we need is a solution which will suit both of us," she says. Otherwise whichever person is not happy can make trouble for the other.

Gary's ready to go out. He won't talk to Anna about what he's going to say to Quinny's family. She says she's proud of him. "Well don't be, because I'm just lucky. That's all I am," he says.

Charlotte tells John she doesn't have anyone to come home to. John says he loves Fiz and Charlotte should find someone of her own. He's very agitated and she's very calm. Charlotte says the answer is to share John with Fiz. "You can be John when you're with her and Colin when you're with me. Half the time with her; half the time with me. That's it. That's the answer!"

The end for now.
The second episode is coming up.

Margaret Carr

We pick up where we left off as Charlotte is taking John through a potential schedule of when he can spend time with her. He cuts her off and asks how on earth she expects he could get away with that. Before she can answer he tells her that he feels nothing for her and he will always love Fiz. If she drops him in it, she will go to prison too and he storms out, leaving her looking upset.

Gary is looking troubled in the Rovers. He calls the taxi company and cancels his taxi.

Izzy has popped round to see Anna. They both ask each other if Gary has said anything to each of them but they come to the realisation that he's just not opening up to anyone at the moment.

Ashley and Claire are heading home to get the house ready for potential buyers. Graeme wishes them luck but then retracts it as he doesn't want them to go.

Molly is heading out for drinks with Sally and Rosie. Tyrone tells her not to worry and to take as much time to herself as she wants.

Fiz tells John that Katy is stopping over and Owen has given his consent. He greets her but his mind is clearly elsewhere. Chesney asks Fiz what's wrong with him and she doesn't know.

Nick and Leanne are flirting at the bar and make a joke of almost being caught by Gail.

Molly, Sally and Rosie are in The Joinery. Rosie is commenting how she would never have a baby until her body started to go south. She asks Molly outright if Jack was planned or an accident and Molly carefully says that he wasn't planned as such but now that he's here it's like he was. Sally says that he's got a wonderful father too, leaving Molly looking sheepish.

Michelle is telling Ciaran that Carla and Peter were talking closely again earlier. He says that they should keep out of their business as it could all be innocent.

Izzy finds Gary in the pub and he admits to her that he didn't go and see Quinny's parents. She asks if he wants to talk about it and he replies that he doesn't and he never will.

Sally is asking Molly how she thinks jack will turn out and Molly replies that she doesn't care so long as he is happy.

Peter comes into the Joinery and asks Leanne why she couldn't make it to Simon's concert. She looks crestfallen and says she forgot. Peter assures her that there was no harm done, he and Simon were just a bit worried. After he goes, Nick tries to offer words of support to Leanne but she tells him to get away from her.

Katy and Chesney are nipping back to Owen's to ‘pick up some things they have forgotten' while he's out (that's their story anyway) When they're gone, John apologises to Fiz for his earlier mood and heads out to buy some wine.

Gary arrives home and lies to Anna that he went to see Quinny's parents but tells her he doesn't want to talk about it.

Tyrone and jack arrive at Kevin's for a lad's night in.

Graeme has visited David who is worrying about when he will have another seizure. Both Gail and Graeme assure him that once the medication starts it will be okay but he is doubtful.

Sally is buying more drinks in and Molly phones Tyrone to say she will be late. She hears jack crying in the background but Tyrone assures her that Kevin is going to see to him. Molly looks horrified.

Ashley and Claire seem uplifted by the visitor's reaction to the house. They are excited at the chance of a brand new start.

Leanne takes Nick into the office and tells him in no uncertain terms that their seedy little affair has to stop. He tells her he loves her but she responds that if he can't let go she will leave the Joinery.

John sees Charlotte on the Street and drags her round the corner, demanding to know what she wants.

Nick comes home in a bad mood. David teases him and asks if a lady has given him the brush off. Nick grabs him and warns him to shut up but Gail comes between them.

Charlotte is telling John that she can destroy his marriage and she has come round to give him a last chance to accept her offer. They can be flexible so Fiz need never find out and john reluctantly gives in. Charlotte is elated and orders him to be with her on Monday. He says he will try but Charlotte warns him that if he doesn't then she will assume he has backed out of the deal and take action. Before he goes, she demands a hug and he reluctantly embraces her as she smiles happily.

Kevin gives Tyrone a wad of cash to buy something for jack. Tyrone is shocked and says it's too much but Kevin insists that he put it in a fund to jack. Tyrone jokes that he might need to have his wallet out again soon as he and Molly plan to try for another.

John gets home and tells Fiz that Colin has been on the phone and they have arranged to meet on Monday to talk about what's been going on. Fiz is shocked when he tells her it's in Doncaster so it will have to be overnight. He may have lied successfully this time but how long will he be able to keep his double life with Charlotte a secret?

Leanne comes home and cuddles into a sleeping Peter. He wakes up and she sobs that she is sorry and she will try to be a better person from now on. Peter thinks she's talking about missing the concert but we as an audience know better...

So what have we learned tonight?
-Facts we've discovered about Charlotte: She's good for nothing when she's not teaching, she doesn't have a heart, she plays badminton on a Tuesday and she's ever so slightly bonkers.
-Gary's jukebox choice is Girls on Film by Duran Duran
-People in wheelchairs are already sitting down.
-All men find shopping boring
-Rosie doesn't want a baby until she's 31 (which is apparently the age when women lose their looks)
-Jason has the mentality of a lad, not a man
-Webster is a more upper class name than Grimshaw
-Wine on a Friday night is Stape tradition. Just like lies and ‘popping out to the shop' aka meeting other people in secret.

Dubious Awards
Hypocrite of the night: "David's the most suspicious beggar on a planet" He's like a truth telling choirboy in comparison to you, Nick the Weasel. Parental fail of the evening: "I was trying to turn you both into lovely young ladies." Sally about Rosie and Sophie.
In the closet award: "Here's to men!" Tyrone. After the way women treat you, you might be better off.
Most promising plot line: "It's like I've got a bomb strapped to me." If only, David
The 'Don't speak too soon' Award: "You're not going to be a junkie, David!" I wouldn't be too sure, Gail. He's been everything else.
Realisation that's years too late: "Nobody knows when I'm going to explode next!" And that's different to the norm, how David?
Biggest sign of impending doom: "I couldn't be happier if I tried!" Ashley

Until next time!

Just one part tonight, and a bit more of a summary for you this time instead of a scene by scene account.

Leanne tells Carla that she's broken it off with Nick. She reckons she just got pre wedding jitters. Carla wants to talk about it (probably to convince her to keep on with Nick) and isn't happy when Leanne is convinced she's doing the right thing and thanks her for her support. That seems to have shut the door firmly on Carla's plans. Nick isn't about to accept Leanne's decision to dump him, trying to persuade her he knows her own mind better than she does. She is insistent even if he threatens to tell Peter the truth. But he'd never do that. He tells her he loves her and she backs away, uncomfortable. But later, Nick presses her yet again, sweet talking and caressing and she gives in again to her feelings and they start snogging and groping each other again.

After hearing Leanne planned to put a halt to her fling with Nick, Carla goes on a rampage in the factory, full of vile and being horrible to her workers, taking her bad mood out on them in the worst of terms. She insults and hollers and orders everyone, Izzy seems to get the worst of it today. Michelle tries to confront her for bullying but nobody backs her up for fear of losing her job. Michelle may know what is up but isn't saying. Carla tries to get Peter to come see her as she's at her wits' end. He finally promises to meet her later at her flat after John gets back. Michelle is then later to drive Carla back to her flat. Nobody knows yet, see, about the license suspension. But, before she's fully away, she sees Peter drive up and go into the flat. Uh oh.

Carla's unhappy because her court case was listed in the newspaper. Michelle comes back to the flat and confronts them both. Finally, Carla admits that she's lost her license and has been drinking too much. Peter has been a support because he's been there. Immediately, she's sympathetic and believes the whole story offers her support as well. Carla is ... you guessed it, uncomfortable, and embarrassed, but possibly grateful that Michelle is offering her friendship. Peter tries to reassure Carla before he goes, that having Michelle on her side is a good thing. Carla knows he's distancing himself from her again and is holding back tears.

Tyrone has had a midday visit with his baby. He absolutely dotes on that baby! He jokes that they'll be Jack and Vera in 30 years which goes over like a stone. He wonders what they can do with the 100 quid Kevin and Sally gave them. She is uncomfortable. Later, Sally finds out about the money from Tyrone and has to pretend she knew all about it. Hmmm... Molly confronts Kevin later about the money but Sally comes out after work so Molly thanks her for the money and goes home. Sally scolds Kevin for the gift that she knew nothing about. She points out that he didn't have a problem refusing Rosie when she'd asked for cash.

Becky wants to take the kids to Lapland as a holiday but he reminds her that they're totally skint. She doesn't get it at first until he persists in telling her how skint they really are. Later she apologizes. Gary gets impatient with the fruit machine and after he bashes it in a fury, a piece of wood comes down off the ceiling, shocking everyone. Becky and Steve defuse the situation and Gary apologizes for his quick temper (post traumatic stress, clearly)

John promises Fiz to sort out "Colin", threatening him with the police. It'll all be over tonight. But really, he's supposed to be meeting Charlotte as part of her "sharing with Fiz" plan. When he's there later, she's even got a steak dinner she's prepared for them. She's acting like they're lovers on an assignation and he's just... uncomfortable. I'm sensing a theme here! She plays it all domestic, spoonfeeds him a taste of her Bernaise sauce. He's clearly not there in spirit but she plies herself with wine and calls him Colin as part of the game. He keeps saying they have to stop this but she insists she's the one in control. He sighs unhappily, glancing at his watch while she goes on about a hard to handle student that she got her revenge on by "losing" his course work, thereby ruining his chances at a place in university. John is horrified.

But as the afternoon goes on, Charlotte puts away more and more wine. John finally tries to leave. She objects and insists he stays but he has to pull her off him and he gets angry, pushing her up against the wall. This only thrills her more. She's delusional this one. He pulls away, probably shocked himself at his anger, and leaves her to sing a few bars from a love song to herself. When John gets home, he lies that he has convinced Colin not to bother them again. He hands back Chesney's keys and says Colin is going back to Canada tomorrow and that's an end to it! (I'm surprised he's not stinking of Charlotte's perfume. She looks like the type). Fiz figures they should tell Colin's mother that he's ok. He nearly chokes on his beer but she convinces him it's a good idea.

In the pub, Graeme relates the news that David has been diagnosed with epilepsy and Tina bitterly gripes that David will wriggle out of the charges as per. Later in the pub, they are sitting with Izzy and Gary. Gail and David are in for a drink too and Gail says David's case was dropped due to his medical diagnosis. David looks over at his former mates sadly. He approaches them, much to Tina's chagrin. His company is accepted by the other three. Gary reminds Tina that life is too short to hold grudges and that gives her pause to stop and think. David and Graeme publicly make friends and give each other a manly hug, happily. Nick joins his mother later for a drink. He makes conversation with Izzy who tells him how awful Carla had been that day. It's like she's got no feelings at all. Carla, the one with no feelings, is crying in her flat and sobbing into the phone. When she hears Peter's voicemail she throws the phone across the room and breaks down.
