Friday 1 April

Hello,

We start this Friday episode with Bethany at the hospital telling her mother a dramatic story about the nurse not buzzing her into the ward. She's exaggerating everything. Harry's going home today, though Sarah thinks it's too soon.

In the cafe, Audrey tells Ken that David came out to Kylie this morning. It's April 1st! Kate asks Sophie if she'll give her an opinion on her wedding dress. Ken tries to give Audrey a little educational talk about the origin of the April Fool. Audrey has to go and pick up Sarah.

Anna tries to persuade Izzy to stop using the marijuana. Izzy says there's a legal spray available on prescription and she's going to ask her doctor if she can get that.

Michelle's been talking to Steve - he was on the phone while playing golf. Liz is going out and asks Michelle if she's OK to cover the bar. But Michelle's going to a tasting at the bistro to help her client decide on a wedding menu. The client is Will. Liz thinks it very strange that any bride would let the man choose what food to have.

Bethany is at David's where Kylie's blowing up balloons and not believing Bethany's stories about the nurse and the door buzzer. Bethany can't believe the only person free to pick up Sarah is Audrey. "It's like nobody gives one!" She asks where Gail is. Apparently she's gone into town to buy some new slippers.

Sharif and Yasmeen sit comfortably drinking tea. There's a knock at the door. It's the environmental health inspector from the council. He's been told Sharif keeps chickens and wants to see them. "Is this an April Fool?" No, Sharif, it's not.

Liz tells Erica that Michelle thinks Steve's having too much fun. And about Michelle planning the wedding for an old friend. Ever-eavesdropping Sean points out they're not just old friends, but he was Michelle's first love. They went out for eight whole months when they were both 14.

Audrey's at the hospital, where Sarah is very anxious that her grandmother drive carefully. Sarah thinks the rest of her family are ashamed of Harry, but she's not. If Harry had been the son of a barrister instead of Callum, they'd all be here.

The health inspector tells the Nazirs that the hens met all the standards for care. "That arrangement out there is the Four Seasons of poultry hospitality; the Hilton of hen-based habitation." They joke about his name, Peter Parker (Spiderman) and Yasmeen says she knows who reported their chickens. "There will be consequences."

Amy arrives home from school to find Ken writing a card for Sarah. Amy tells him she thinks Steve's abandoned her. "He's using Uncle Andy's broken leg as an excuse." Ken tells her Michelle hopes Steve will be home soon. Amy worries that Michelle will meet someone else while Steve's still in Spain.

Izzy's been to the doctor and has been refused the cannabis spray. It would be different if she had MS. Gary asks "What do we do now?" He says they're in this together.

Liz gets Erica to cover so she can attend the brewery do. She thinks Michelle looks a bit too dressed up for a tasting session. Michelle says she's being paranoid. Will arrives and tells Michelle she looks gorgeous and flirts a bit with Erica. Liz tells Erica it's as plain as the nose on her face that Michelle likes Will.

There's a rather thin cheer as Sarah arrives home - Gail's still not back and Nick's taken Carla to the cinema.

Sean tells Leanne that Billy's busy tonight wallpapering for a parishioner. Michelle wants to know why he told Liz about her history with Will. Sean doesn't understand why that's a problem. Michelle introduces Will to Leanne.

Audrey loves the name "Harry Platt." Ken arrives with his card for Sarah. She's less than enthusiastic and she won't let Ken hold the baby. "You can see him from there!"

Back in the bistro, Sean finds out that Billy's been delayed. Michelle and Will talk about her marriage and she tells him she and Steve have decided to "grind it out." They discuss the idea of marriage and he asks whether she's worried about Spanish women but she says she's more worried about the expats. Will says Saskia gets plenty of attention from her colleagues. Michelle has to remind him that he's supposed to be tasting the food so he can decide on the menu. "You decide." Michelle tells him he's just being lazy and hasn't changed a bit.

Erica has to talk Liz out of going over there and interrupting the tasting session. She says Michelle's done nothing wrong. She looked good and that's not a crime. Liz is persuaded to go to the brewery function but she gives Erica instructions to text her if Will and Michelle come back together.

Amy admits she's not been at hockey practice. She was in detention. All she did was yawn in class. Ken's fuming. He's going to have words with the head teacher. April Fool! Amy is gleeful that she caught out Ken and she doesn't care that it's well past morning.

Sophie seems nervous as she waits and when Kate comes in wearing her gown, Sophie can barely speak. She manages to say that Kate looks really good and then can barely look at her.

Will can't work out how he's supposed to make a decision based on having one spoonful of each of the desserts. He asks Michelle when Steve's coming home. He can tell she misses him. "I love him," says Michelle. Will mentions Liam and Michelle's eyes fill with tears. But it's not talking about her dead brother that's upset her, it's talking about Steve.

The end of the first episode.

Margaret Carr

Hi everyone. Since last providing an update I have been on a mega trip to Australia and New Zealand. I have to say it does rain a lot in Australia - certainly in Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, Uluru and Sydney. Our readers living in those two countries have some gorgeous scenery and lovely cities. Maybe one day we will visit some of it again. The Remarkables are remarkable and I loved the hot springs in Rotarua as well as the rail cruising.

My thanks to my colleagues who have so ably filled the gap whilst I have been away - they will be even happier when my globe trotting comes to end having spent all of the kids' inheritance (which is much closer than it was before).

Anyway on with the update. This episode was number 8873, it was written by Jan McVerry and directed by Duncan Foster. The copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We open in the Bistro with Michelle holding her head in her hands and telling Will not to be nice to her. He asks why she went to Spain - are she and Steve over? She says not - but Steve would seem to prefer to being there than here. Will asks if Steve is trying to slope out of the marriage and he sounds like a bit of div (well we know he is - but then he is Michelle's div). She denies he is a div - he is complicated, chaotic and then she admits he has been a bit of a div over the years - other women, money, stuff with his dad, his dog - it has not been easy and she admits Steve suffers from depression and then it all seemed to make sense. Now the medication has kicked in he is playing golf, chilling and the worst of the debts have been paid off. He is having a blast - beach, bunker, bar where he is the life and soul, despite it being his brother's place. Meanwhile she is stuck in Weatherfield keeping all the balls in the air, on her own. And she cannot say a word because he is "ill". Michelle is choking back the tears as a Leanne bounces up to the table to ask if they have decided on their puddings. More samples are ordered.

At Izzy's Gary is wiping up. Izzy is singing Jake to sleep. Izzy emerges and is in pain. Gary offers to get more skunk but Izzy says that he must not with Anna on his back and she cannot take the risks of social services and the police. Gary says Anna would not report her. Izzy says he has been brilliant but she has managed the pain for years - although this is worse she has to stick with it. She asks Gary to lock the door on the way out. She goes to bed. Gary shows his anger at being unable to be more helpful.

Back at the Bistro Leanne warns Will and Michelle that they are getting daggers from the kitchen - the sous chef was hoping to eat the samples she places in front of them. Michelle asks Will what floats Saskia's boat in terms of either classic elegance or something rough and ready? Michelle observes that Saskia has excellent taste and Will notes she can speak three languages. Her dad is a lawyer and her mum pays the ironing lady to spray the sheets with scented water! Michelle says that Will is kind, caring, generous, a self-made man. He is a catch.

Sophie is on the phone to Sal wanting help with the wedding dress. Call ended Sophie tells Kate to be grateful when she arrives as Sophie is fed up hearing about keeping plates spinning! Kate had not realised she had lost weight and is now worried she is getting the lollipop head look! Sophie tells Kate she is stunning and that it is simply nerves. Kate responds that she has dreams about not turning up - Caz sobbing, Johnny in bits and Aidan wanting to string her up! Sophie tells her it is just a nightmare - but Kate wonders why the nightmare is not Caz failing to turn up. Sophie knows that Kate loves Caz. Throughout this it is obvious that Sophie is struggling to keep her own desires under control as they drink wine. Sophie asks if Kate loves Caz and Kate says she does and Caz feels the same about her. They eye each other nervously.

In the Rovers Audrey is telling Ken that she had hoped for better things for a bright girl like Sarah - a rotten father for her baby. Ken says he has been called that and worse in his time. And look at us now they chuckle - pictures of respectability. Freddie comes in and Audrey offers to get a drink. He joins them. Audrey gets the drinks but Ken seems less keen. Mary is praising Erica for putting a spring in his step. Mary hopes it will not put an end to their girls' nights out. A bunch of noisy young male adults come in - not the usual Rovers customers!

David is coming through the Platt's front door and Kylie comes downstairs. Prince Harry is having his first bath at home courtesy of Grandma Gail. Sarah in the kitchen reveals he has made a mess all over his baby-gro (Sarah that is what they do!). Sarah sends David and Kylie to the Rovers - she and Gail can look after the children.

As Sally walks home along the Street the Nazirs call her - "councilor Metcalfe". They report that they have had a visit from Environmental Health. Sally plays dumb. Sally says she has been spinning plates all day and she has no time for riddles. Apparently they were given her name - although Sally thought it was all confidential. Sally says public office holders have to be above board. So if the hen house is substandard she has to report it. Luckily the inspector says it is the Rolls-Royce of coops and the Nazirs cannot thank her enough. Somehow Sally does not seem overjoyed!

The seven lairy lads in the Rovers are getting one of their number to down a pint in one. And Erica is serving another round with chasers g this time so it is grappa suggests Erica. One of them tells Mary it is a stag night. David and Kylie discuss the evils of either a noisy pub or returning home to a screaming Harry. A glass breaks at Ken's table and one the lairy kids warns Ken about his tone of voice. There is a barbed discussion over replacing Audrey's drink. The kids walk away - but Freddie says they are not done and he tells them to stay still. Erica tries to calm things down. Freddie tells one of the lairy lads that he does not want Freddie hitting him tonight. Ken and Audrey look worried and at that dramatic point we will take a commercial break.

Still in the Rovers we can now see Freddie surrounded by the kids. Freddie adds that it is bad for his arthritis. Kylie chimes in alongside Freddie. Soon they are all laughing and Freddie offers to make them his special which he picked up in Guadalupe. Shane has apparently been holder of the kitty since 2006(!). One of the lads offers a hand to Audrey and says "My bad" (oh really must we - the worst phrase in the world). Anyway friendly relations now seem to exist.

Along at the Bistro Will is telling Leanne that his missus is high-maintenance, food is good but the venue may be too small. Leanne assures him that they are expanding into catering so that is not a problem. Meanwhile Michelle is being summoned back to the Rovers. Shin of beef and chocolate mousse. Will says he will go back with her and have a pint.

Back at the Rovers Audrey congratulates Freddie on his Kissinger like skills. Michelle gets stuck in behind the bar and Will offers to collect glasses. The lairy lot, plus Mary are singing "Wonderwall".

Across the road councilor Metcalfe is pinning up the wedding dress (in Kate's flat) which now contains Kate whilst she talks about motions and paragraphs and so on. Sal has had a handful of nuts and a cappuccino on the run. Kate observes that she has a lot on her plate and Sophie is dismissive behind Sally. Sally then tells Kate not to lose any more weight. If Kate brings it in on Monday early Sally will take it in. Kate calls her amazing but Sally responds that she is just an ordinary Weatherfield girl. Anyway Sally has scheduled some me-time - a life hack she recommends to Kate. Both girls have a brief laugh behind her back. Caz phones Kate and she is worried about seeing the dress (do people actually use phones where they can see the caller in some form - I have never done that), she throws on a cardigan and yep there is Caz on the phone. (How do you do it? Honestly never done it). Sophie departs and leaves Kate and Caz to chat. Caz sounds jealous that Sophie has seen the wedding dress.

Back in the Rovers they are toasting Harry Platt as Will takes a photo. Kylie says that she enjoyed being whizzed through the traffic on the back of Freddie's motorbike. Audrey believes they are the work of the devil. Freddie reckons he is a smooth ride - and Ken looks ever more discomforted! Lairy loudmouths plus Mary depart. Erica drags Mary back. Michelle delivers a drink to Erica - well and truly earned. Michelle asks Erica to walk Mary home. Will offers to help clear up. Kylie and David head home to screaming Prince Harry - but diddy doting uncle Dave will sit with him to give Sarah some rest.

At the Platt's the baby is making some noises and Sarah is looking completely worn out.

Michelle and Will have finished clearing up. He fancies a scotch. He wonders how she copes with the late nights - but it is not late for her. He is normally in bed at 10 up at 6 and at the gym at 6:30. She pours two whiskies and Liz wanders into the bar. Liz gives them the evils and says "don't mind me I only live here". Michelle's good humour disappears.

Gary returns to Izzy's and she has not slept as her ribs have been throbbing - nothing eases the pain. He was worried about her - but does that give him the right to turn up without warning and scaring her? Well it has stopped her thinking about her ribs. Gary tells her he is moving in until the problem is sorted. She says it is her home and if she needs a carer she will pay for one. Gary says he messed up buying skunk and he wants to put things right. Izzy says he is a good dad and a good mate. As he leaves she tells him she is glad that he has her back.

Michelle goes into the back room at the Rovers where Liz asks her straight out wanting the truth - is 'Chelle sleeping with her ex? Michelle responds that she loves Steve - she reminds Liz that when he was ill, she did everything - fed him, held him and cried with him, she worked flat out to pay for the stupid sports car and all his other stupid spending sprees. Michelle suggests getting Steve on the phone and reminding him of the wedding vows because she thinks Steve is the one who has forgotten them and he has forgotten his daughter and forgotten his wife. Liz wants to know when she got so bitter. Michelle calls Liz's darling son a selfish pig with a very short memory and she can see where he gets it. This furious attack astounds Liz. And then finally Michelle denies getting it on with Will. Michelle thinks she must be mad she spits out at Liz. In the dark bar Michelle dissolves into tears, sobbing her heart out.

Roll credits

As I wrote the above the news broke that we had lost Victoria Wood at the age of 62. As far as I know she never appeared on the Street itself but she has worked with many who have. She was born in Prestwich so not far from the Street's home and no doubt shared that wicked observation of people and happenings. She did of course produce one wonderful skit as Ena Sharples (easily found on line) - with some careful knowledge of the plot lines. May she rest in peace.

Monday 4 April

Written by Julie Jones Directed by Brett Fallis

Tracy is already feeling the pain of a restaurant owner partner. Robert stayed very late after work the night before. She understands but thought they could have a chat but won't say what about, in particular. He offers her a try of a new special at the restaurant at lunchtime and off he goes.

Michelle has no time for a brew though Liz has offered. She runs down the list of all the things she has to do. Liz offers to take one off the list, she can take Amy to music club. She tries to reassure Michelle that Steve will be back soon but Michelle is losing all patience. She reckons he thinks he has nothing to come back for. She hollers for Amy and then tells Liz it's upsetting that he can't even come home for Amy's sake.

Sally has Tim and Craig set to the task of tearing down the back garden fence. Sophie comes through to find out if she can borrow a power hose of Tim's to valet at the garage. While they are discussing this, Craig takes a big crash at the fence with the sledgehammer and Yasmeen comes running out, horrified. She only needed the fence mending, not rebuilding from the ground up. Sally argues that the fence is in bad shape and needs replacing. They can go halves if she wants. Tim decides to give up, sending Craig for the hose while Sally goes in to do some housework.

In the bistro, Tracy has arrived. Robert sends Leanne to get a sample of that special and he sits down with Tracy. He apologizes for being distracted. She understands, and he says that if he can make the Bistro work, the world's their oyster. After Leanne sets a plate down, Robert tells Tracy she's got his undivided attention but just as she's about to bring up something she wants to talk about, something life changing, Carla swans in and interrupts with some things for Robert to look over for the wedding. Robert makes small talk with Carla as he peruses it. Turns out Nick has gone to Devon to look at some restaurants. Tracy decides this isn't a good time after all and leaves.

In the community centre, Cathy has brought lunch to Yasmeen who complains to her about Sally's recent interfering, the chickens first and now the fence.

Amy and Liz are at the music club. Amy is talking about a famous violinist that she admires. A gray haired man and a lad have also entered. The man smiles at Liz who gives him back a weak smile.

Jason is in the pub. He talks to Sean about Sean's two jobs, assuming he's Minted which doesn't appear to be true at all. Michelle notices Will sitting in a booth. He must have come to check up on her but she's uncomfortable with it and asks him to leave just as Liz and her disapproval come in. Liz then gives Michelle the third degree about Will sniffing around.

Yasmeen brings the empty container back to the cafe and lets loose with a proper rant about Sally who is, naturally, coming in the door and hears all of it. Sally calls Yasmeen jealous and they proceed to try to out-pillar-of-the-community each other. It nearly comes to handbags at 20 paces but for the arrival of Tim and Craig to restrain them. They're nearly nose to nose! Brilliant!

Beth is visiting Tracy in the shop nattering about the flowers. Beth notices Tracy taking her frustrations out on a bouquet. She admits she's frustrated with Robert but it's not his fault. It might be a problem that won't go away, however and Beth is keen to know what's up. Tracy admits she might be pregnant. Tracy thinks it could be good for them but she hasn't done the test yet. Beth thinks she should do it right away but she wanted to do it when Robert was around. Beth advises her to insist Robert takes some time out and be supportive.

Amy and Liz have returned from the music club. Amy muses that she'd like to write a song about a dead dog or a dead slug. Liz thinks a nicer song might be in order. The man from the music club and the lad drive up, ask out the window if there's another session of the club tomorrow. He drives off when he finds out, smiling at Liz before turning to the road.

Andy tells Steph he's going to see Michael who's been miserable and lonely. Steph isn't too happy but Andy reminds her that she has family around where Michael has nobody.

Sophie is busy washing a car. Kate comes out and they banter, with Sophie suggesting a bit of help would make the job go quicker. It seems like Kate is going to help as Beth returns with a bag of lace (via her stop at the florist shop). Kate teases her about being late and then reveals that Aidan is gone for the day so she could have wrangled more time off out of it. Beth flounces back inside the factory.

Michelle is sitting in the back, looking at her wedding photo. Sean comes in and sits down, offering a sympathetic shoulder. She tells him it was nice to catch up with an old friend. Sean wonders if Michelle isn't just hankering after lost youth. She seems a bit bitter that Steve is living the good life but admits she still loves him. Sean says when he wants to be good, he fills the fridge with healthy food, removing all temptation. She knows whereof he speaks.

Jason is in Sally's back garden. The fence is now gone and the rain is coming down. Yasmeen comes out and offers him a feast of curry. He can't resist so he leaves the job to go wash his hands. The line where the fence is going to go is marked off with little posts and string. We see Yasmeen reach down for one of the posts when Jason goes inside.

Andy tells Steph he is going to Brighton tonight. Carla is conferring with Robert. He sees Tracy is calling and doesn't take it. Carla reckons they've got everything covered. He tells her they made a mistake and nobody got hurt, regretting it's awkward between them now. Each of them is happy and he compliments her. She and Nick will be happy. Tracy comes in and wants to speak to Robert and needs to speak to him now. He goes into the back with her.

Kate and Sophie are finishing up the cars. Kate seems to have needed the distraction and admitted the wedding is stressing her out. Kate says Caz wasn't happy that Sophie saw the dress first and that she and Sophie are just mates. Sophie offers Kate a drink for a thank you and it's accepted.

Will comes to the pub at Michelle's request. She sits with him and tells him she has to back out of planning his wedding. She explains that she's taken on too much but he doesn't think that's the real reason. She then admits that she enjoyed spending time with him. Too much. And he admits he feels the same way. When Sean passes near, she goes back to business and hands him all the work she's done so far. She tells him it's for the best. He leaves.

Tracy shouts at Robert for flirting with Carla. He insists he doesn't cheat. She reminds him he cheated with her on Joni. He tells her he wants to be with her and doesn't understand why she can't be happy and appreciate what she's got. He then hollers that he's sick and tired of her going on about Carla. Tracy accuses him of loving Carla being around all the time. She then reveals she knows he slept with Carla knowing how Tracy felt about her. He looks stunned.

Things may be heating up in the Bistro kitchen but it's certainly not from the cooking. As Tracy confronts Robert about Carla, Leanne comes bustling through and Robert announces he has to go. Never mind there may be customers to cook for, he's the boss now so presumably the food will magically appear by itself since there's no one else in the kitchen. Leanne goes out to the bar where she tells Carla that Tracy's just gone stomping out of the back door after yet another row with Robert.

Kate's having a drink with Sophie in the Rovers and Sean's trying to give her ideas for her hen night. She tells him burlesque dancing isn't really her thing – she'd much rather just have a few quiet drinks there. On the other side of the bar, Liz is having it out with Michelle. She's heard that Will called round again and she's not happy about it. Michelle tells her it won't happen again as Saskia's decided to organise her own wedding.

Meanwhile Robert and Tracy have gone back to number one to continue their argument. Robert points out he didn't cheat on Tracy since they weren't together when he slept with Carla but Tracy wants to know why of all the slappers in all the world it had to be her. Robert insists it was just one of those things and he regretted it as soon as it happened. But that's not good enough for Tracy. Robert asks what he can do to make it up to her.

Back in the Bistro Carla and Leanne are still talking about Tracy. Carla says it must be a nightmare for Leanne having that face gurning at her from across the bar. Leanne shrugs and says it's water off a duck's back. Carla asks casually if she knows what the row was about but Leanne says sorry she's not much use on the gossip front. She adds that she's glad that she and Carla are on better terms again. They start to talk about the wedding and Carla asks Leanne if she has any top tips on how to be Mrs Tilsley. Leanne says she's better able to give advice on how not to do it.

Across the street a row is erupting in the back gardens. Jason is putting up a new fence between the Metcalfes' and the Nazirs' and Sally is convinced it's in the wrong place and she's lost a foot off her back garden. Yasmeen is looking rather smug so perhaps Sally has a point.

At the Barlows' Tracy and Robert are still rowing. Tracy says she remembers the day she found out, she felt like someone had ripped her heart out. Robert's expression changes – how did Tracy find out? Tracy tries to brush this off this detail but Robert wants to know. They're interrupted by Amy coming home. Tracy's glad of the distraction but Robert sends Amy back to the Rovers – he knows Tracy's hiding something and he wants to get to the bottom of it.

Meanwhile the row is continuing in Sally's back garden. She's convinced Jason's got his measurements wrong. Tim comes back and agrees the garden does look a couple of inches smaller. Sally says it's at least a foot and she's going to take the matter to the powers that be. Yasmeen continues looking smug.

Robert finally gets Tracy to admit she overheard him and Carla arguing the night the Bistro was robbed. He can't understand why she sat on the news for so long. Tracy says it was too painful and she tried to block it out but Robert knows her better than that – Tracy would want revenge. The only reason she would keep quiet is if there was something in it for her.

Tracy finally comes clean to Robert and admits she used her knowledge to "persuade" Carla to leave Weatherfield and get Nick to sell the Bistro to Robert but he's horrified to think that Tracy put Carla's life at risk and then blackmailed her. Tracy is shocked by Robert's reaction, to her mind he should be thanking her. Robert can't believe what he's just heard and tells Tracy she's something else.

Back in the Bistro Carla and Leanne are continuing to bond over a bottle of wine and their shared relationship with Nick. Leanne tells Carla that she seems to have found a way to help Nick when he's stressed. Carla makes Nick happy and Leanne's glad about that.

Sally's sounding off to Tim about Yasmeen. He thinks she's overreacting but Sally tells him it's a slippery slope. First she moves a garden fence but next she'll be building a three-storey monstrosity that blocks out the light. Tim's had enough of her ranting and takes himself off to the Rovers while Sally gets on the phone to speak to councilor Stevens on the planning board.

When Tim arrives in the Rovers he finds Sophie trying to persuade Kate to go out for the evening but Kate gets a call from Caz. As Kate leaves, Saskia and Will arrive. Saskia's in a state. What will she do now Michelle can no longer organise the wedding? Michelle asks Sean to take them through to the back. As soon as they've gone, Liz turns on her daughter-in-law. Michelle has lied to her and she wants to know why.

We return to number one where Tracy's trying to convince Robert that she loves him to bits and everything she's done was for him. She tells him she'd never hurt him. "That's reassuring, given your history," he replies sarcastically. He says that every time she does something he finds a way to forgive her but this time … Tracy insists she loves him but Robert says it's a sick, twisted sort of love and it's not what he wants. Tracy replies that she loves him, Amy loves him and if they had a baby together that child would love him as well. "I think I might be pregnant," she says. Robert thinks it's very convenient she's telling him this now so Tracy pulls a pregnancy testing kit out of her bag.

Michelle's got problems. She can't find an available wedding planner to take over and Liz is giving her the third degree about her and Will. Meanwhile Sean is trying to keep the happy couple entertained in the back room with the help of a packet of gypsy creams. This gives him an idea – why doesn't he take over the wedding? After all, how hard can it be? Just one look at his sock drawer would show Michelle how good he is at organising things. This is enough to convince her and she gives him the job.

Sophie is walking down the street with Tim and he's giving her relationship advice. He knows what it's like to fall for someone who isn't available. He can see where things are going with Kate and tells Sophie to get out there and meet someone else because she's a lovely girl. Sophie wonders when Tim got so good at talking about feelings. He doesn't want her telling anyone or it will blow his street cred.

Back at the Barlows' Tracy's still working on winning Robert round about her possible pregnancy. He downs his drink in one and shouts at her to take the test. Tracy hurries off upstairs.

We return to the Rovers where Sean has just told Saskia and Will the good news that he is now in charge of their wedding. Saskia seems quite happy with the arrangement and goes off to the ladies. Will takes Michelle's hand and says they'll be in touch. "With Sean," replies Michelle firmly. As soon as they've gone she wonders if she's done the right thing. "What could possibly go wrong?" asks Sean ….

Tracy comes downstairs looking downcast – she's not pregnant. Robert looks relieved but Tracy's furious – would it really have been so terrible if she had been pregnant? Robert clearly thinks so. He's disgusted with Tracy's behaviour but she's just as angry with him for sleeping with the person she hates most in the world. She reminds him that she forgave him for doing it and used what happened to try and make him happy. But Robert says she shouldn't pretend she did it for him – she loved having power over Carla and Nick. He adds that he's had a lucky escape today. Tracy grabs Robert's arms and begs him not to go. "I love you'" she says with desperation in her voice. "Well I don't want your sort of love," replies Robert before walking out.

Wednesday 6 April

A desperate Tracy is trying to phone Robert, but he's not picking up. Amy comes in, looking for her sheet music, but is greeted with annoyance by Tracy. Ken comes down and is pleased to see her though. Amy tries joking with her mum about Robert but Tracy isn't amused and tells her to get out. When she's gone, Ken asks Tracy how bad it is. "As bad as it gets," says Tracy with a sad face.

Sally is about to leave the house, Tim offers to cook her something nice for dinner to cheer her up. "What you?" she says, surprised and then rushes off.

Michelle has had a phone call – the florist that was booked to provide the flowers for Will and Saskia's wedding has canceled. Liz thinks maybe someone up there is trying to tell her something. She's playing with fire. Michelle points out that Sean is now doing most of the work, and asks Liz to try and think of a replacement florist. "But don't say Tracy!" she says.

Tracy, meanwhile, is out in the Street when she spots Robert and rushes over. She asks why he hasn't replied to her messages. He tells her he has nothing more to say to her. "What if I had been pregnant?" she asks. He replies that she wasn't, and he has nothing more to say to her. She tries to grab him as Ken comes out of the Kabin and he asks Ken to call his daughter off, as he dodges round Tracy and starts to walk away. She calls out to him that she's not going to give up. "You're wasting your time," says Robert and walks off.

Carla has come out of the factory and sees this little scene, and when Tracy has gone she walks over and asks Ken what the bust-up has been about. Ken says he hasn't the foggiest.

In the factory, the girls are talking to Kate about her hen night, and Sean says that he's offered his wedding planner services free of charge. Just then Kate gets a phone call, and after a moment or two remarks, "oh that's a shame."

Over in the bistro, Robert tells Leanne that she works hard and he'd like to give her a pay rise. She's pleased about that.

Michelle has gone against her own advice and is in Tracy's shop looking at the flowers, but Tracy is in a sour and tetchy mood, so Michelle says she'll think about it and let her know. As she walks out, Beth walks in and wants to know what happened. Tracy tells her that she's not pregnant and Robert has dumped her. "Why?" asks Beth, but Tracy tells her not to ask. Beth asks if she wants him back and Tracy tells her she does, but he's not interested. Just then Carla comes in and Beth makes a quick getaway back to work. Tracy then tells Carla that she and Robert had a massive bust up and she has told him everything. "And I mean everything!" she says, adding that she's going to tell Nick exactly what Carla did behind his back.

Carla rushes over to the bistro to see Robert. She tells him that Tracy told her they'd broken up. Robert tells Carla that after learning what Tracy did, what was he expected to do? He's cross because she used blackmail to get what she wanted. "The woman is evil," he says.

Kate goes to the garage and asks Sophie if she'll go to lunch with her, telling that Caz can't make it back until later. As they start to walk out together, behind them Caz gets out of a taxi and isn't pleased with what she's seeing.

Back in the bistro, Carla is explaining to Robert that if Tracy tells Nick what happened between them it will be the end for him and her. Robert asks if she wants him to get back with Tracy so that she and Nick can live happily ever after. "Sorry love, it doesn't work like that," he says.

Kate and Sophie are in the Rovers, looking at the lunch menu when Caz walks in. Kate jumps up and hugs her, as Caz explains that she managed to move things around and get there early. Sophie says she'll go and leave them to it, she's sure they must have loads to talk about, but Caz urges her to stay.

Carla is still trying to talk Robert into getting back with Tracy, saying he must have felt a lot for her, he came back for her. He tells her she's wasting her time, but Carla says Tracy makes him feel alive, she gets under his skin, she's not evil, she did what she did because she's crazy about him. She then tells him that this might be the last chance of happiness for both of them.

In the pub, Kate is obviously really pleased to see Caz and they start talking about the hen night. Sophie says she's got lots of work to do, so she leaves.

Beth sees Robert outside the bistro and rushes over to tell him that Tracy was really excited about having his baby and now she's really upset. He reminds her that it's none of her business, but as she leaves she tells him that he and Tracy were good together.

Liz is taking Amy to her music club at the community centre. As they get to the door they meet a boy of about Amy's age with a gray haired man. The kids go in and the man invites Liz to go for a coffee.

Tim is just getting a roast chicken out of the oven when he gets a call from Sally to say she's got to go to another meeting of the drainage committee. He's fed up and says it won't keep, but she hangs up.

In the cafe, Liz and the gray haired guy are chatting about how the kids got into music. "You must be a very proud mother," he says, and Liz doesn't correct him.

A very glum Tracy is sitting at the kitchen table when the door opens and Robert walks in.

Liz and Amy get back to the Rovers and Amy asks Liz how the coffee was. "You got on OK with Chris then?" says Amy, and then goes on to ask if she fancies him. Liz laughs, but tells her it's none of her business.

Tracy tells Robert that she just wanted everything to be perfect. He tells her not to ever do it again. "Does that mean you forgive me?" she asks, and he says he's still hacked off with her, and she promises she will never do anything like it again.

Tim is dozing in the chair when Sally comes back. He's not happy, and tells her he spent all day planning the meal, he wanted it to be something special.

Sophie is just leaving work when Caz comes along. She asks if Sophie has had a hard day. "All that worming your way in with Kate must really take it out of you." Sophie says she doesn't know what she's talking about. Caz warns her to keep her distance.

Robert and Tracy are walking down the Street when Carla comes out of the factory, sees them and smiles. "She won't be smirking when Nick finds out what she did," sneers Tracy. Robert stops and glares at her. "You just don't get it, do you?" he says, and tells her she's got to stop this obsession she has with Carla, and with ruining people's lives, and he warns her that if she tells Nick he really will walk.

Anne Logan.

Friday 8 April

Hello,

We start with Aidan talking to Eva about how the factory is going to need extra staff. He offers her her job back. Eva doesn't think she can take orders from someone she's involved with but she says Yes.

Around the tea table they're all gleefully giving Kate a hard time about her hen night, though gleeful is the exact opposite of what Kate seems to be.

in the bistro, Tracy's sorting out a floral display and promising Robert that he's her number-one priority. She was going to cook but Robert has to work. In fact, they're so short-staffed he offers Tracy a job for the night. In her new "putting Robert first" personality she says Yes.

Sally and Beth meet Tim in the street. He and Sally are going out to dinner with some council person tonight but Tim resents her telling him what subjects to talk about. Beth's a bit startled by this but Sally points out she's simply given Tim an "aide memoire." She wants to know if he's still grumpy about the other night when he cooked for her. Sally insists she had no way of knowing he was cooking something special and accuses Tim of being prone to "hyper bole" [pronounced just like that]. She tells him he has to be there at six in an ironed shirt and on his best behaviour. She tells Beth that Tim respects her career. Beth thinks he's mad if he's giving up the chance to be out with his mates. "That why I am a community figure you're not," sniffs Sally, in best Annie Walker mode.

Kate's in Packing, discussing marriage with Kirky, who tells her that he and Beth are like two halves of a panto horse. Aidan asks her if she's all right with Eva coming back to work there. She is. Then why has she had the hump all morning, he wants to know. Kate tells him it's nothing for him to worry about.

Sally's at the garage talking to Sophie, telling her Kate seems upset. Sophie asks why she being told all this stuff about Kate. Kevin interrupts with a work question and Sophie takes the chance to ask whether Sally's spoken to Tim. Sally immediately thinks it's about the other day when she was late home. She knows she occasionally takes Tim for granted but the first six months for a councilor are make or break time. She tells Sophie she's grown into a beautiful and capable young woman and strokes her hair. Sophie's embarrassed and shrugs out of the stroking. Sally sees Caz coming and tells Sophie, "Oh, and for the record I realise you and Kate are just friends but Caz doesn't hold a candle to you."

As the decorations go up in the Rovers, Mary mentions that she's never ever been invited to a hen do. Erica promises to invite Mary to hers but Liz says she's done with all that. Michelle asks if that means Chris is a non-starter. Liz says she thought Chris was the child's grandfather but he's not, he's the father.

Aidan tells Kate to go home early and get ready for tonight. She protests that she doesn't want special treatment but Sean presents her with her hen-do sash. As she leaves she tries to stomp past Sophie saying she has to speak to Caz. Sophie points out Caz and Kate tells her she has to speak to her. "Not here."

Back in the factory, Sally asks if she can go home early, too - she's got an important meeting later. No. He says she could only go home if she was sick. Sally suddenly has quite a lot of symptoms. Aidan says OK, she can go. But she's to go straight to bed. And she shouldn't worry. He'll cancel her meeting for her. "Or you can stay and I'll pretend you didn't just try to mug me off."

Kate starts by telling Caz she's still amazed that someone like Caz would want to marry her. But she wants to postpone the wedding. She still wants to marry Caz but she's not sure she's ready yet. "Since when?" asks Caz. Did she decide a week ago? A month ago? Ten minutes ago outside the factory? Kate insists Sophie has nothing to do with her decision but Caz storms out anyway, muttering threats against Sophie.

Amy asks Tracy about cooking for Robert. Tracy isn't interested and says she's concentrating, but Amy says she's not. When she concentrates her eyes go squinty and her forehead looks like one of those wrinkly dogs. "When did you become so mean?" Tracy asks. Amy smirks. "Learnt from the best!" She asks if Tracy wants to hear some gossip about Liz but Tracy says No.

In the Rovers, the unlikely alliance of Erica and Mary discuss the perfect hen do.

Sophie sits with Tim, though she reminds him he's got an important meal to go to. He says the meal's not as important as talking to her. She tells him she thinks Kate's having second thoughts about the hen do. Tim advises her to take a step back. Chris arrives with a large bunch of flowers and offers to buy Mary a drink. Michelle comes in and says Kate's just called and canceled. Sophie gets up and leaves.

Kate sits on her sofa and tries to call Caz, to no avail. Outside, Sophie stares up at the house.

Sally leaves a message for Tim telling him to come home and all will be forgiven. Tim offers Kevin a drink and ignores his phone. Chris is there and the conversation turns to the after-school music club. Chris thinks it's wonderful. "I wouldn't have met Amy's beautiful Mum, otherwise." Wait! Is he looking at Liz? You betcha! When he goes to the loo, Liz explains to Erica and Mary that he made the assumption she was Amy's mother and then it got too awkward to change. He returns and she agrees to go out with him.

Sophie goes into the flat and finds Kate in tears on the sofa. Kate says Sophie is ruining everything but Sophie just takes her into her arms.

Before Chris and Liz leave, they discuss who should look after Amy. Michelle agrees to "babysit" her. Then she goes to serve Caz, who has just come in.

Aidan and Michelle talk to Caz, who tells them the wedding is off. She blames Sophie and says she thinks something is going on between Sophie and Kate.

Sally's at the bistro and tells the power couple she's meeting that Tim is still at work. She asks Gerald to tell her about the new Freshco warehouse. Behind them, Tracy arrives at work and wants to know whether she's front of house or helping in the kitchen. Neither. She's the pot washer tonight.

In the flat, Sophie tells Kate to stop beating herself up and to be honest. She's telling her that as a mate. Someone comes in. Caz?

Another week so time for another Friday night part 2 update. This is episode 8878 and it comes from the pen of Ella Greenhill whilst on set activities were directed by Brett Fallis. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Action opens with Caz shouting the odds at Kate (and Sophie) for copping off with Sophie with the latter two claiming they never planned for it to happen and Kate denying that Sophie is her girlfriend - which leads to Sophie having a hurt look on her face.

Along at the Bistro Sally is lambasting Tim's voice mail for letting her down. She makes his apologies to her dining companions - the planning officer, Gerald, and his wife, Anne. He has two businesses - transportation and glass. When asked if she likes scallops Sally confirms that she loves potatoes. (Oh come on - Sally is not that gauche).

Kate is trying to explain matters to Caz and that Sophie was helping her through it adds Caz who says she had come back to apologise for thinking that Kate was cheating on her and she now feels very stupid. Caz and Kate both tell Sophie to leave. Kate tells Caz that Sophie came onto her - she did not want Sophie there.

In the Rovers Tim and Kevin are chatting - they hope Luke will cheer up when Maria returns on Monday. Kev tells Tim to go and apologise, but Tim says he has done nowt wrong. Kev observes happy wife, happy life. Kev reminds him that husbands do not get their way! Tim orders another pint - but Kev says that Sally has suffered enough. Tim is not scared of Sally - but Michelle is. Even Kev says that Sal has a pretty loud mouth. Tim reckons that some of Sally's nagging has rubbed off on Kev and he gets up and goes. Tim reckons she will be glad if he turns up no matter what he is wearing. Kev says Tim is braver than he is.

Liz is getting on well with Chris, who thinks she is Amy's mum. Amy uses this to her advantage to get £35 out of Liz rather than troubling Auntie Tracy. Having fleeced Liz she departs.

Outside Tim sees Sophie and asks her what is the matter - she points out he should be in the Bistro and he says she is a terrible liar. Tim takes her home and comforts her.

Kate is still trying to explain to Caz. Kate says it was just a kiss and it would have gone no further. Caz calls her a liar which makes Kate go on the offensive about never seeing Caz because she is away so much. Caz reaches a decision - forget Kate kissed Sophie, forget the wedding and forget us.

Sophie is telling Tim that Kate kissed her back. Sophie says that Kate says she is confused. Tim thinks Kate is confused and Sophie is making it worse. After Maddie Sophie thought she would be on her own with some cats. She feels like she is betraying Maddie. Tim points out in reversed circumstances Sophie would want Maddie to be happy - so Sophie needs to be happy as well. Tim then says that he can see her as a crazy cat lady! He warns her to stay clear of Kate - she should find someone who makes her as happy as Maddie did.

At the Bistro the diners are disconcerted by pots and pans falling over in the kitchen. Sally asks Robert what is happening - there are new staff finding their feet! Sally says the noise is spoiling the starters! Tracy emerges from the kitchen and asks if there are any more pots which need making sparkly - she would do anything for Robert. And she returns to pot washing!

Caz is loading her bags into a taxi - being back at base is preferable to being near Kate. Caz swings round and accidentally hits Kate which Sophie sees and rushes over. Caz and Sophie argue with the former accusing Sophie of stealing her girlfriend. Caz calls her a silly little girl and tells Sophie that Kate has told her that Sophie came onto her and she calls Sophie pathetic, jumps in the taxi and it drives away.

After the break Kate and Sophie have a slanging match in the Square, oops sorry Street; Sophie points out that Kate kissed her back which the latter denies. "Whatever Kate"! They storm off in opposite directions.

Sally enjoys being busy she admits to Gerald and Anne. Her public, her team at Underworld which sells mainly to luxury boutiques. There is another outbreak of pots scattering in the kitchen. Sally hates to be vulgar but points out that Tracy only got the job because she is sleeping with the owner! The previous owner ran the place so much better. Sally admits it is important to know a lot about local businesses and what they are doing! She is an integral part of the community and Tim has two businesses and does fun runs(!). Apparently he pursues glassware at antique fairs - and we see Tim approaching the table and he overhears Sally extolling his sitting in a bath of baked beans for charity. Sal calls him a knight in a designer suit. He remains standing in earshot looking just ever so slightly "dis-shevelled". Anne says that next time they must do this at their house in Bowden. Apparently Sal loves Bowden and she and Tim were thinking of moving there but he could not bear to leave the Street, neither of them could bear to leave the community. Tim remains stock still standing in silence shocked at these salient sentences which Sally speaks. She adds that they have a conservatory to give some extra space. Anne bemoans only having five bedrooms which can be so cramped. Sal and Tim could afford more but they would so miss those lovely cobbles. Tim finally turns on his heel and departs. Sal swallows some wine to calm herself (presumably before the next round of lies).

In the Rovers Aidan and Michelle are discussing Kate's canceled wedding. Mary buts in saying that being apart does not help - the smell of a person, the sensual touch of their skin on yours. Simply says Mary Kate and Caz have not seen enough of each other. Aidan concedes it all happened quickly. Mary puts herself forward as a possible confidant as she is a woman of the world. Michelle says she will pass the offer on! Michelle tells Aidan he has to talk to Kate. Aidan then opens his mouth and puts his feet in it by asking when do any long distance relations work - it is just two people clinging to a relationship that does not really exist. Michelle looks very sad.

Sal returns home and asks why Tim did not answer her calls. She asks if it was because she was late for his silly chicken? He clarifies that it was a roast chicken with a honey and mustard glaze. But he is not that childish. She continues the argument. Then she tells him he works in antique glass. He knows this as he heard her! He claims to have ironed his shirt and popped in but she did not notice because she was gassing about how successful they both were. Tim reminds her of her wedding vows to stop trying to change him - it meant a lot to him. But she did not mean it. She accuses him of going off at a tangent as usual. She denies trying to change him, it is about him letting her down. He retaliates that he has been comforting her daughter with tea and a cheese barm. But not as good as impressing Gerald and Anne!

Kate is on the phone to Johnny confirming she will cancel the venue and that he will lose the deposit. Aidan comes in and they discuss events. Kate tells him that Caz is the one who is canceling the wedding. Aidan hugs her.

Tim has brought Sal up to date about Sophie's unrequited love. Tim says being an agony aunt is not his forte. Sally wonders why he is going to bed - and he points out that she has not apologised for all she said - so she does. Tim wants her to tell snooty friends the truth about his job. She says it is just a little fib - which made him sound like Alan Sugar. She denies he is an embarrassment. Embellishment cannot do harm can it? He responds that listening to her guff about her perfect man "Timothy" is somewhat opposite to the reality; she answers that it could be if he tried and he points out that she is simply unbelievable! Sally believes that if she impresses she can make a difference. He points out that she is not Barack Obama but a local councilor. She needs to think of the little people. He changes his mind and goes to the Rovers. The door closes, the door opens, Tim picks up his wallet and then goes, not a word is said. [PS No doubt the reunion will be spectacular!].

In the Rovers Kev heads home for a Freshco finest pie as Liz and Chris return to consume a good whisky in the back. Mary observes it will be a private nightcap and it is nice to be in love to Michelle who responds that she is married. A disconsolate Tim wanders in and Michelle takes one look at his face and offers a pint.

Tracy is still cleaning pans! Robert comes in and gives her a cuddle and says he appreciates her efforts this evening. He should her hands are all pruney! Tracy says that she is used to getting her own way and wondered if he had noticed. She goes onto say that in future it will be about the two of us. He suggests she goes home and he will bring some shepherd's pie - she thinks that jumping to dessert would be better. And they snog.

Tim asks Michelle for some dry roasted. No nuts, no scampi crunchies as the delivery did not happen. Sophie arrives for a glass of wine. Sophie asks if Sally was mad over Tim missing dinner. Tim says she was fine, she is a right laid-back lady! Mary seems surprised. She says Sally is as laid-back as a rock-hopper penguin. An aggressive penguin! Sophie tells Tim she has been really stupid. She has got it all so wrong.

Meanwhile Aidan is hearing Kate's side and now understands why Sophie was stressed. Kate admits that Sophie did not take advantage - Kate wanted to kiss her and she knew exactly what she was doing. Kate says she has a lot of making up to do. Aidan wonders if getting caught was not such a bad thing? He suggests that perhaps Kate does not want to be with Caz.

Closing shot of Kate pondering this monumental thought.

Roll titles.

Some positives:
Great move by Tim - goes into the pub and still supports Sal; we know they will work it out
Aidan - great big brother act
Mary - I am now seeing her as Blanche's replacement - the right word at the right time
Steve - come on lad get your s*** together and get back with Michelle
Robert - I have a feeling you will not know what hit you - Tracy does not clean pans for everyone you know
Caz - you got that right gal.
See you next week.

Monday 11 April

A quick summary today...

Sarah is starting the sleepless nights you get with a new baby and David is not in the least sympathetic. At least Bethany offered to take the baby out for a walk to give her a break but Sarah still doesn't really want to let the baby out of her sight in case anything happens. She also wants to have the baby christened, for protection against the evil world so she really is going over the top with this over protective thing and Billy knows that part of her problem is the shadow of Callum.

Everyone's talking about a new reality show about washing up. I can't think of anything that would make me watch that.

Fiz and Tyrone need to clear some old stuff, toys and things, out of the house. Turns out that Tyrone still has an old toaster belonging to Jack and Vera! Cathy hasn't quite shed the habit of trying to acquire junk but she also gave him the idea that scrap metal would be worth money.

Maria's home after months away! Luke is picking her up at the airport. Luke can't seem to get on the internet at Number 9 to check her flight. Surely he has data on his phone to check the flight terminal but he asked Kirk instead. He should know never to trust Kirk, even with welcome home gifts since Kirk then stole his exact idea and bought Liam an I Love Weatherfield tshirt before Luke could give Liam the one he bought! And oh, Ozzie makes an appearance in Maria's honour (albeit with Kirk walking him). But Maria's phone is ringing and she's very furtive about answering it and looking guilty when Luke asks if there's anything to declare. Why is that?

Izzy's still struggling and doesn't feel like she has a choice. Gary will get her more pot but it'll be their secret. Like secrets never ever come out on a soap!

Chesney and Sinead are back on screen, we haven't really seen them for awhile. He's missing his little boy and feeling a bit blue. But Sinead has a chance to do another modeling job so she's decided to do it for the extra money to send Ches to Portugal.

Nick is back from Devon and is ready for the leisure life, hanging out in track suits (sorry, leisure wear) and sleeping hours on end. He has no plans to do a thing! He's hanging around various businesses and gazing at the photos on his phone of the restaurants he looked at while away and discussing them with all and sundry. One of the ones he looked at was taken off the market and he was sorely disappointed. People were teasing him all day about his leisure wear and then, when the bullies spotted Bethany with the baby they had another go but this time, Uncle Nick defended her and went ballistic. We end the show with his temper exploding and Bully Lauren's bag and contents all over the cobbles.

Written by Simon Crowther and directed by Tim Finn

It looks like Nick has made things ten times worse for Bethany. He walks off leaving her to face the music. The bullies pick up the contents of the bag that Nick smashed on the pavement and tell Bethany it was an assault and that Nick and she are now both in big trouble.

Outside the gym Gary's speaking to his dealer. He asks him to send him a text next time rather than going in to look for him. They shake hands. Meanwhile, inside, Sharif is watching them on the CCTV. When Gary comes back in he asks what it was about. Gary dismisses it as nothing but as soon as he's gone, Sharif replays the footage.

At Platt Towers Bethany's sitting on the sofa with a maniacal expression on her face but Sarah's too busy working out how many hours she hasn't slept for to notice. Gail's equally distracted as she witters on about the properties Nick went to see in Devon.

Maria's popped round to the salon to see Audrey and tell her all about Cyprus but she keeps being interrupted by calls on her mobile. We can see from the screen it's someone called Pablo. Finally she goes outside to speak to him. Maria says not tonight because Luke will go spare when he founds out what they've been up to. Maria tells Pablo she loves him too before she hangs up. Meanwhile, Audrey has been peering at her suspiciously through the blinds.

In the kebab shop Gemma's having a bit of fun with Chesney. She asks who in the street he'd fancy if he wasn't with Sinead. Eventually he settles on Kylie and asks Gemma the same question. "Jason!" she declares without a moment's hesitation.

Sarah's finally had a nap and is eating meal with Gail and Bethany. She tells them she's arranged Harry's christening. Gail's delighted until she discovers it will probably be next week. What about the food? What will Harry wear? What will Gail wear? And why the sudden rush? Bethany and Gail exchange concerned glances.

Fiz arrives home with the children to discover that Ty has turned their back room into a scrap metal yard. She's lost for words.

Back at the Platts' Gail's started on the washing up and is asking Sarah about godparents. She assumes Sarah will want David and Kylie and us shocked when Sarah says she'd rather ask somebody else. David comes in at that moment so Bethany comes straight out with the news, including the fact that Sarah doesn't want him and Kylie to be godparents. David doesn't seem at all bothered but Gail gets herself totally worked up. Nick wouldn't be at all suitable she reasons as he's never had children. What if Sarah is killed in a car crash? A row erupts and they wake the baby.

Meanwhile outside the salon Audrey sees Nick, followed by Maria. She asks Maria who she was on the phone to but Maria isn't giving anything away. Audrey turns back to Nick and notices he looks a bit down. He tells her that he missed out on the property in Devon so she takes him off for a cup of tea to cheer him up.

Back at the Platts' Gail is even more upset to discover that, along with Nick, Sarah wants Todd to be a godfather. Gail's view is that Todd made a fool of Sarah but she tries to explain that what happened with Billy brought them closer together. The icing on the cake comes when Sarah tells her mother she'd going to ask Carla to be the godmother. Gail thinks David should feel snubbed but he genuinely doesn't mind and tells his mother to give it a rest for once in her life. "Will you learn when to shut up?" he asks.

Nick's in the salon with Audrey who's asking about Devon although not really paying attention. His phone rings and it's Sarah who has something to say to him. It must be important as she wants him to go round to the house. Nick looks worried.

Round at the Platts' Sarah asks Nick if he'll be Harry's godfather. He seems a bit taken aback. He's off to Devon, after all, but Sarah insists it's just a token gesture so he agrees but like everyone else is surprised to hear it's happening so soon. Gail asks if Sarah's going to invite Callum's mother. No way, Sarah tells her. Gail thinks it's extremely mean-spirited of her.

The pile of scrap is building up in Fiz and Ty's living room and poor Fiz is wondering where it's going to end. Ty's convinced he's going to make their fortune and tells her that every millionaire has to start somewhere.

In the kebab shop Gemma and Ches are having a laugh. She promises not to tell Kylie that he fancies her if he'll put in a good word with Jason about her. They link fingers and declare a "pinky promise" just as Sinead walks through the door. She looks really annoyed especially when the two of them can't keep a straight face and refuse to tell her what it was about.

We return to the Platts' where Bethany's having a whispered conversation with Nick in the kitchen. She's shocked at the way he lashed out at the bullies and is convinced they're going to retaliate and she'll be on the receiving end. She tells Nick he acted like a psychopath. "Don't EVER call me that!" says Nick, angrily.

In the gym Sharif's is sharing his suspicions about Gary with Zee. He's convinced he's dealing in steroids. Zee finds it hard to believe and asks why his grandfather doesn't simply ask Gary straight out. But Sharif wants to get some evidence.

Back at the Platts' Sarah's just returned with the news that Carla's agreed to be godmother when there's a knock at the door. It's Bethany's chief bully with her mother in tow. She's heard about what Nick did and has come to confront him for assaulting her daughter. A big scene erupts with everyone arguing about who did what and to whom. Gail's confused, Bethany's scared, Nick's worried and David is angry and tosses them out of the house.

Across the street, Maria opens the door to a man who we must assume to be the mysterious Pablo. He's clutching a laptop and wants her to have a Skype call with his parents. Maria's in a right state, she told him not to go round there, what if Luke finds out? Pablo asks if she's ashamed. She says not but she's clearly very worried about something and promises to meet him tomorrow so they can call his parents then. Audrey comes along just in time to see Pablo kissing Maria. Admittedly it's only on the cheek but Audrey looks shocked.

Sinead is having a drink with Ches in the Rovers. He's trying to convince her there's nothing going on between him but Sinead is most put out. She had something to tell him but she's not sure she wants to now. But she has second thoughts and shares her good news – Aidan's asked her to do some more modeling. Ches doesn't look too delighted until she tells him she thought they could use the extra money to go to Portugal to see Joseph. Ches's face lights up – he can't wait to phone Katie.

At another table David is having a drink with Nick. He wants to find out more about what went on with the bullies. Nick tries to make out it was no big deal, he lost his temper but that was the end of it. David knows there was more to it than that but Nick tells him to change the subject.

Wednesday 13 April

David sees Nick in the Street and asks him how he's been feeling. Nick is curt and tetchy. David wonders if he thinks it could be a recurrence of his brain injury. "No I don't," snaps Nick, and tells David to go and perm someone's hair.

Luke has stopped by at the salon and asks Maria if she'd like to go for lunch later. She's hesitant and says she's agreed to meet an old friend at lunch time. Luke wonders who it is, and Maria is again hesitant before she tells him it's Anastasia, and suggests they do lunch another time.

Kylie and David are tired, and when Audrey comments they blame baby Harry for crying all night.

In the gym, Sharif is fitting a new security camera, but Dev is moaning about the cost. Sharif reckons it will be a deterrent against any bad behaviour – and stares meaningfully at Gary when he says it.

Fiz and Tyrone are in the Kabin, Ty wants to put a card in the window advertising his services for collecting scrap metal, he thinks it would be a way of earning extra cash.

Maria is on the phone in the back room of the salon. She's talking with someone about the things they did while she was away, and then arranges to meet them later in town. Audrey and Kylie both hear this, and when she hangs up Audrey asks who the mystery man is, saying she saw her with him the other day. Maria won't say, she just says that Audrey doesn't need to worry about her.

Zeedan tells Sharif that these security cameras are a very expensive way to snoop on Gary. Sharif says Gary seems to be obsessed with the sharps bin, and he wonders why. Zeedan tells him he's 100% wrong, Gary is OK. Sharif is sure Gary is dealing, and wants somewhere to stash his evidence.

Luke arrives at the salon with a huge bouquet of flowers for Maria, but she's already left for town. Kylie tells him that Maria has gone to the Cafe Bianco in town, and suggests Luke goes to surprise her there.

Kathy is round with Fiz and Ty, and Ty has filled the living room up with all sorts of scrap that he found in a skip. Kathy thinks it's wonderful, but Fiz isn't happy and tells him it'll have to go in the yard.

Luke arrives at the cafe and finds Maria sitting at the table with a young man. "That's a funny looking Anastasia," he says.

Luke demands to know what is going on. Maria tells him she can explain, it's not what it looks like, and she begs him not to kick off and asks him to sit down. Luke however, says he's fine standing. The young man, who judging by his accent is obviously foreign, asks Maria who this is. She tells him it's Luke, her boyfriend. Luke asks who the guy is, and Maria tells him it is Pablo – her husband!

Back at the gym, Sharif reckons he can prove to Zeedan that Gary is a dealer. "We'll set him up," he says, "and then you can prove me wrong."

Back at the cafe, Luke has sat down and a coffee is put in front of him, but he's not happy, because Maria has still not told him what is going on. Eventually she tells him that Pablo is a hairdresser at the salon where she worked in Cyprus, and he's gay.

Zeedan sees Gary in the cafe and joins him. He quietly asks him if he can get him any steroids to improve his gym performance. Gary tells him he shouldn't take those, he'll get hooked and they have bad side effects. "They're for mugs mate," says Gary. Zeedan leaves, telling him not to say anything.

Maria explains to Luke that Pablo is gay and has a boyfriend here. He's from Argentina so marrying Maria meant he could come over here to be with his boyfriend. Luke is furious and demands to know why she didn't tell him. She says it didn't seem that important. Luke reckons they are out of their minds, and gets up a leaves.

Zeedan goes back to the gym and tells Sharif that Gary passed the test with flying colours, he's not dealing steroids. Gary however, has followed Zeedan back to the gym and hears this. "So that was some kind of sting?" he asks. Zeedan assures him that it was Sharif who thought he was dealing. Sharif says he's sure something was going on with Gary and that Dane fellow. Gary rants and says he could probably take him to some sort of tribunal over this.

David is having another chat with Nick in the bistro. Nick is still sure that his brain injury symptoms have not come back, he's just stressed with everything that's going on. David suggests Nick sees the doctor but Nick tells him to leave it.

Luke goes into the bistro and tells Steph and Kirk that Maria has married a gay bloke, she married him to get him a green card. (I'm sure it's not that easy, is it?) Just then the door opens and Maria and Pablo come in. Maria begs Luke to hear her out.

Tyrone gets back home with Rita's old washing machine, followed by Rita and Norris bearing other metal items. Fiz is a whole lot more enthusiastic now.

Back in the bistro, Maria and Pablo are sitting with Luke, Steph and Kirk. Steph and Kirk can't understand why she married him, and Steph is quite shirty with her. Pablo tells Luke that Maria has done a kind and generous thing and he should be happy. Luke isn't happy and wants to know when Maria was going to tell him. She says she was waiting for the right moment.

Erica sees Gary outside the gym and tells him she knows he's getting stuff for Izzy and to be careful, he doesn't want to lose his job. She warns him not to do anything daft that could affect him or the gym.

Luke is walking off down the Street when Maria chases after him. She says she knows she's been daft, but he says she's been more than daft, she's broken the law. He shakes his head. "I don't know who you are any more." He walks away.

Anne Logan.

Friday 15 April

Good morning (pretend it is),

We begin with Izzy and Gary companionably tidying up Izzy's flat. Gary finds her stash but Izzy points out it's got a child-proof lock on the container. Gary doesn't think there's enough there to see her through the weekend so he says he'll buy some more cannabis.

Tyrone's still collecting stuff. Now he's got a typewriter. Luke and Fiz talk about Maria. Tyrone says he's confident that by Sunday he'll have raised 300 pounds, but he doesn't seem confident underneath.

The bearded dope dealer Dane is at the gym looking for Gary. Sharif is very skeptical about him but Dev points out the bloke's done nothing wrong. He tells Sharif to think about the publicity if the guy's innocent. Sharif's thinking about a different sort of publicity. He doesn't want word to get out that they turned a blind eye to shady goings on. and how come the guy was dressed as a baker last time and is in a tracksuit this time. Dev decides to tackle the problem head on. "Yoh!" he tells the bloke before trying to get involved in some sporting talk. The young bloke tells Dev he's strictly a five-a-side guy. There follows a very awkward conversation where everything Dev says seems to have some other connotation.

My favourite line of the week comes from Mary, as she Norris and Anna discuss Maria and ponder heartbreak. Norris points out how much peanut brittle Mary went through after Brendan broke her heart and mentions her elastic waistband as a sign he's telling the truth. "You're no David Gandy yourself!" she snaps.

Sinead's caught a chill, probably by standing in front of a wind machine on her photo shoot. She's finding it hard to get warm.

Audrey's doing the hair for a production of The Wizard of Oz. This seems a bit random but it means there's a lion costume in the salon. Maria's moping around and says Luke's not answering her calls.

Kev and Ty tease Luke about Maria. He says she's got a head like a sieve and a heart like a lion (please note the careful build-up here) and when she sees injustice she has to tackle it.

Todd shows Sarah a hand-tied bouquet he's just done with the help of the internet. She asks him to be godfather to Harry. She's also asking Nick. She says Harry needs all the good guys on his side.

In the salon, Audrey tried to throw Pablo out of the salon.

Dev admires Dane's trainers and he says he has to be fast on his feet in his job. "And what job would that be?" asks Dev, as if Dane's going to spit out "drug dealer" (like those immigration forms which ask "Are you now or have you ever been involved in terrorism?"). In answer, Dane throws open his jacket to reveal a T-shirt that says "Kershaw's Quality Bakers - The Terminator." It seems Dane is the Don of the Doughnuts. Dane decides he can't wait any longer and goes out, leaving Dev to tell Sharif with glee, "He really IS a baker!"

On his way out, Dane meets Gary and hands over the drugs in exchange for cash. That's when the police cars arrive.

The police ask their names and Gary tries to get Dev and Sharif to go back into the gym.

Pablo gets Luke to the salon and asks him to give Maria a chance. She gave Pablo a chance - she just didn't think through the effects. "Please, she looks so ugly when she cries." Maria tells Pablo to go off to London to be with his man. After all, that's what this was all about. She turns the sign to Closed and takes a swig of the Argentine liquor Pablo's brought with him.

Norris huffs and tuts at the pile of old bikes outside Tyrone's. Mary takes a closer look at the pile. It seems she's looking for the old cast iron street signs - they've all disappeared.

Sarah doesn't appear to be coping, with Harry crying so much that only Todd picking him up with quiet him. Sarah sits at the bus stop looking as if she hasn't slept in a week.

Norris stomps to the garage and calls Tyrone Jed Clampett (look it up, you young ones) and says he's gone too far this time. He demands to know what's happened to the Edwardian street signs and when Ty denies knowing anything, Norris accuses him of lying.

Poor Sinead feels so unwell she doesn't think she can get as far as the front door, let alone Portugal. She tells Chesney he'll have to go to see Joseph on his own.

Maria's still drinking and going on about injustice. Pablo's gone and Luke tells her it's not her problem any more. He tells her he's still angry inside. "I'm done," he says and walks out. Maria spots the lion suit.

Anna and Izzy see Jake playing with a container and Izzy panics that he's got hold of the cannabis. "It's only biscuits," Anna says. "What did you think it was?"

A check of the Police National Computer reveals nothing on Dane. Though we all know that when they check Gary they'll see he's got a record. Dane turns out his pockets - nothing. When it's Gary's turn, however, the policewoman discovers the baggie in his top pocket. He's arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis.

Anna's angry with Izzy. Izzy doesn't deserve a child like Jake. Izzy gets a call from Erica to say Gary's been arrested. Anna demands to know what for.

Maria's in the lion suit and leaving the salon at speed. David follows. "Film it for me!" shouts Audrey. Maria races to the garage and tells Luke she embarrassed him and now she's embarrassing herself. "I do daft things sometimes and I don't think of the consequences. Please take me back." She's down on her knees. Luke takes her face in his hands and looks into her eyes.

Dev says that Gary's been caught dealing drugs, though Erica points out he's been arrested for possessing, not dealing. Anna races up just as the police car pulls away with Gary in the back. Trailing behind is a weeping Izzy, trying to wheel along with Jake in tow.

More in the next episode.
The end of this one.

Still catching up from the backlog caused by my recent holiday. Sorry we are a bit behind here in update towers - we do try and get these out as quickly as we can - but time is not always on our side.

This update is for episode 8883. It was written by Ben Tagoe. Direction was undertaken by Tim Finn. The copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Action commences in the Street with Anna hoping Izzy is pleased with herself and Mary wondering what all the fuss is about; Erica suggests getting off the Street as Sharif, Dev and Zeedan are all at the bottom of the steps to the gym. Anna asks Zeedan to fetch Kev. Izzy is cuddling Jake. Sharif is concerned that they have had a drug dealer arrested on the premises which is not good for their reputation. Erica is still trying to get everyone indoors - although how Izzy will make it up the steps I have to work out.

Maria cannot wait to get the play suit off. Luke tells her the point was made loud and clear. And she is forgiven. She thought he would milk it forever - well it is a big deal. And now she has proved it. She still has to keep making it up to him though! They snog.

At home Tyrone remarks to Fiz that he cannot believe he was accused of stealing the signs.Fiz thinks she will go round and put the old man Norris straight. Ty wants to let it go and have a brew. Now Fiz thinks Ty has something to hide. She thinks he has been very enthusiastic about the scrap metal business. It turns out she is pulling his leg. And how much are the signs worth? They laugh!

Sarah is planning a perfect christening (this is the Street - what could possibly go wrong; oh yes Callum turning up). Kylie recalls Lily's less than perfect christening (David confronted Kylie over the parentage of the baby). Sarah suggests Kylie invite Freddie to the christening. Kylie agrees. She lets Billy in who wants a word.

Inside the gym Erica is dispensing tea - Anna will go to the police station once Kevin arrives and Gary is not going to be out in a hurry. Dev and Sharif admit their suspicions and surveillance and Sharif was the one who called the police. Anna is insistent that Gary is not a drug dealer. She dumps the cup of tea back on the desk and departs with Kev who has just arrived. Zeedan is less than impressed by Sharif's actions.

Billy appears to have got his dates mixed up and cannot make the christening happen on the agreed Monday and wants to defer it - but Sarah is insistent that she wants it then and not a few days later.

Sinead feels that she is dying and Craig is trying to work out if she has a cold or a fever! Chesney has to leave her to go to the sun - but feels bad about it. He tells her he has canceled the hotel and will stay at Linda's with Katy and Joseph. She looks very concerned about him being near his ex but says that there is no point in wasting money.

Erica is explaining to Sharif and Dev that Izzy uses the drugs for pain relief. Erica explains aspirin simply does not cut it and Izzy had told her in confidence. Did Erica know that Gary was doing his buying in the gym? She didn't. Sharif is concerned that Gary has let them both down.

Fiz lets Norris and Mary in as they are on a contrition mission. Norris admits he may have been mistaken earlier. He has contacted the council and is now aware that the street signs have been taken down for cleaning. After prompting from Mary he apologises. Mary would have dragged him over sooner but she was involved in a drugs bust. And she sits down for a gossip about Gary. The headlines will read "Weatherfield's Ginger Escobar"! Norris has something else to say as well. As a peace offering he has some scrap to offer.

Luke and Maria are getting dressed. He is glad she is back. He has to go to the shops and when he returns she can take him for a drink in the Rovers. She still has some making up to do. She can think of better things than a drink in the Rovers.

Izzy minus Jake arrives at the police station. She tells the desk officer that the drugs were not his. The response is that it is not that simple. She waves drugs under his nose and says they should arrest her.

After the break the action has moved to an interview room where Izzy is telling two officers about her need for pain relief. She says they should arrest her and let Gary go. But he was arrested in possession of an illegal substance (and they now know with intent to supply - so she has made it worse for him). Izzy snaps at the male officer when he suggests that Jake should have been a primary consideration. He terminates the interview.

Kevin and Anna arrive at the front desk. They will have to wait until he is released, if he is released. The officer implies that Gary is not permitted a phone call. Kev thanks the desk officer ironically for his (lack of) help. Anna and Kev take seats to wait.

Ty and Mary are moving a large fridge. It joins the rest of the scrap in Ty's yard. And now Ty should have enough for his licence and will soon be Weatherfield's newest cabbie. Fiz thanks Mr Cole for his kindness. Fiz reckons it calls for a little celebration. Ty suggests a date night - and after some discussion about wasting money Fiz agrees.

Gary emerges and sits down - he now has to wait for Izzy. Izzy thought she could get Gary out - but she has made it worse by saying that the drugs were for her - which makes him a dealer. he now has a charge for supplying drugs. Gary is not leaving until they release Izzy.

Fiz bustles into Chesney's to bid him farewell and to give Joseph a hug from her. Craig delivers a chicken soup to Sinead. Not homemade - but never mind. Sinead refuses a hug as she does not want her germs going to the sun to infect Joseph. Craig goes to see Chesney off and Fiz wants the truth out of Sinead. She admits to being worried about Chesney being with Katy in the sunshine. She has noticed that even Gemma puts a smile on Chesney's face. At home he is Mr Misery. She reassures Sinead who does not sound reassured.

Kylie and Sarah are eating, Harry is quiet and Sarah is waiting for her phone to ring. Billy arrives and bears good news. They are good to go for Monday. Sarah hugs him in relief. He goes and now they can eat their dinner. Kylie was afraid for Billy's life if the outcome had been different. Sarah does not take the joke well.

Izzy eventually emerges from the depths of the police station. She is being released with a caution. They tell Izzy about Gary being charged as a dealer. And slowly it dawns on Izzy that she has made it all much worse. They all head for home.

Fiz thanks Luke and Maria for babysitting at short notice. Ty and Fiz promise not to be late back. Once they are gone Luke says she has something to discuss with Maria and makes her sit down. He has missed her so much and then she returns with a husband - it has made him realise that he would be gutted if he ever lost her. She says he will never lose her. He gets down on one knee, brings out a little box, opens it up and says he knows he will have to wait until she is divorced - but then will Maria Connor marry him? She asks if that was the reason for the shopping trip? And then before he can change his mind she says yes and takes the ring and puts in on her finger. It was just that she was surprised. They hug and kiss.

Anna says Jake is lucky that he does not have an idea about the absolute mess going on around him. Anna assumes Izzy will knock the drugs on the head. She responds that Gary does not need to be involved. Izzy reckons the rules are wrong - but as Kev points out they are just doing their job. However Gary is still facing a prison sentence. Izzy says that if they interfere with Jake again she will be the one calling the police. She adds that the weed makes it easier to look after Jake.

Kylie reckons that Sarah should look forward to when Harry wants a cuddle and is making her laugh. Sarah would welcome an end to the screaming. Kylie says it will not matter who the father is. Sarah hopes she is right. Sarah is still hoping for the perfect christening. It will be the start of things improving. Kylie agrees - think positive. Forget the past adds Sarah, starting on Monday. She almost smiles.

Roll credits.

I somehow doubt Monday will go smoothly - happy to be proven wrong.
In most places in the UK these days they are reluctant to press charges over possession - but dealing is more serious; it is illegal but that may change.
And it could be a while before Maria is free to marry Luke, anyone want to guess how long it will be?

See you next week.

Monday 18 April

Written by Damon Rochfort Directed by Jo Johnson

The milk truck rattles along as Sarah wheels Harry back home, talking to him about his big day and how the Christening will be a fresh start.

Across the street, Liz has gone to pick up Amy to take her to school, wanting to do her share. They mention Michelle's birthday on Friday so that we don't forget. After questioning Amy about her friend Sam's dad, though, it feels like that was the real reason Liz wanted to put in an appearance at the school, to see the debonair Chris. Amy wasn't fooled.

Inside, Sarah has brought Harry in. Max offers to take the pram into the back yard and Kylie offers up a Christening card. She takes the baby and gets David to make tea. Sarah witters on about how the Christening is the right thing to do. Gail remembers feeling the same way when she had Nick Christened but in answer to David's question as to why he and Sarah didn't get to have their day, Gail recalls that Grandma Ivy was a religious fanatic by that time and she didn't want to give her the satisfaction! I love little throwback lines to the past, like that. Sarah comments about telling the devil to bog off, making Kylie take notice. Then David sees a birthday card on the table and everyone then realizes they all forgot Gail's birthday. The card is from her father. Apologies all around but Gail's happy enough to have everyone around. After she goes into her room, David tells the others they'll have to organize something but Sarah begs off as she's busy, then she picks up the baby and goes upstairs. David's comment to Kylie about Sarah seeming to be chirpy only makes Kylie look thoughtful.

Kirk and Beth see Gary and Izzy coming out of the Kabin. Izzy wonders if she should tell Carla and Johnny about the incident. Beth makes her usual sarky remarks but Kirk pipes up that he never judges, he loved Breaking Bad after all. (television program about a drug dealer). Izzy reminds them that Gary did it for her and she takes the blame. The next laugh comes from Kirk to recalls that the teachers always thought he was stoned in school but he couldn't help it, this is his natural expression! They go inside just as Zeedan comes along in time for Gary to be hostile. Izzy warns Gary not to have a go at Sharif either. Gary goes stomping down the street.

Today is apparently supposed to be Kate's wedding day. Carla's on the phone to her and she's obviously feeling pretty down. After she hangs up, she tells Nick she's going to learn to make a frittata. Nick is on the phone on hold with the various menu options irritating him more and more. He's trying to set up a bank account for little Harry. One more electronic instruction and Nick fires the phone across the room with a shout, startling Carla but she doesn't worry about him.

In the gym, Gary has arrived and Sharif is not happy to see him. Gary insists, he's the partner, not the employee and he's staying.

In the salon, Maria is getting instructions from Audrey who's going to be out at the Christening. Nick drops in and seeing Maria, congratulates her. There's a little look between them that remind us long time watchers that they used to be an item. Nick is genuinely happy for her and she's pleased to hear it. Nick offers Audrey a lift to the church and says, when she asks, that there's room for Ken. He's then dismayed when she asks about Gail's birthday and can Robert do up a cake because he, too, forgot. He goes off, promising to sort something out.

Sophie teases Luke about the engagement, with the gay husband and everything. Luke is not amused. Sophie sees Kate and Johnny heading to the factory but Kate brushes off Sophie's greeting and rushes inside.

Gary comes into the cafe for a sandwich and it's very clear that Anna is still very angry. He defends Izzy's pain but she's not giving in so he leaves in anger.

Nick suggests to David that Sally might be willing to organize Gail's party. Sarah comes down, excited but she and Nick end up trading sarky insults with David playing peacemaker. Sarah agrees to go in on a present if they get one but then turns her attention back to the big day and runs upstairs again. Nick is further sarcastic, considering that Harry could burst into flames under the holy water considering who his father is. At least Sarah didn't overhear that little gem. Gail comes out as Nick leaves and is disappointed Nick didn't stay to say Happy Birthday.

In the factory, Izzy being arrested is the talk of the day. Sally insists she can't be associated with even the mere whiff of drugs and Izzy finally speaks up and asks them to give it a rest. Carla comes out and sends them all to dinner except Izzy, they want a word. Nick comes in to ask Sally about organizing the party. Sally is more than happy to help. Carla tells Izzy they have to take it seriously and advises her to tell Johnny the truth and it will be ok. Carla leaves to get ready for the Christening and Izzy rolls into the office.

After the break, he's talking to her and worried about her being stoned while working with machinery. She insists that cannabis doesn't get her stoned, it just helps with the pain and it's very difficult to get prescribed medically. She begs for her job. Johnny isn't sure what he's going to do but promises to think about it and will let her know at the end of the day.

In the church, everyone is waiting for Nick and Carla and making small talk with Billy. David is being his usual sarky self and Sarah is getting irritated at the latecomers who finally come in, Carla taking the blame. Audrey and Ken come in along with them. Let's get started, shall we? Everyone gets seated while Kylie tells David she thinks Sarah has built up the Christening into something much bigger than it should be. Almost like an exorcism.

Outside the factory, Izzy and her friends are discussing Izzy's potential job loss. Izzy's getting tired of talking about it, let's change the subject. They scatter. Sophie comes over to talk to Kate who feels bad for falling out with Sophie. Sophie offers to be there if she wants to talk but Kate figures that's what got them into trouble in the first place.

Sally is with Maria and Luke in the cafe, complaining a bit about organizing Gail's party. She leaves and Maria then asks Luke to move in with her and Liam. He's chuffed!! Izzy is talking to Anna who's trying to be sympathetic but can't agree with the drugs. Izzy points out that she's doing it for Jake and rakes up what Anna did to save Gary, her son. I don't think Anna was too pleased to be reminded.

Billy starts the service, asking Sarah and the godparents to the altar. Audrey is pleased to see Freddie who has arrived late, though Ken's face is in a knot. Billy starts his talk but Sarah snaps at David who is making remarks. Harry starts to fuss and cry and doesn't seem inclined to settle, which flusters Sarah.

Liz is dancing around an empty pub, cleaning and singing to "I Feel Like A Woman" when Chris, Amy and Sam come in the door. She's a bit embarrassed but Chris seems admiring of her. He picked up the kids from school so he could take the opportunity to ask Liz out on another date. Sam says he's hungry so Liz and Chris hand the kids some money to go to the cafe. They run out leaving the adults to talk. Liz has agreed to the date.

Gary is helping clients in the gym and getting the silent treatment from Sharif. Sharif then tells him he's been talking to his solicitor about the possibility of breaking the partnership contract if Gary gets sent down. Sharif can't even look him in the eye. Gary tells him Izzy might lose her job and this could end up putting both of Jake's parents out of work and here Sharif thinks of himself as a family man. Ouch.

Back to the church, the service is continuing with a crying baby. Sarah is flustered and getting as upset as Harry. Nick isn't too happy with the crying baby either but Sarah ends up shoving the baby into his arms and running out, crying that it isn't working and it was all meant to make it ok.

Billy goes to find Sarah who's sobbing in the vestry. She tries to explain why she's upset, and says she'd hoped that the christening would make things right. Blissfully unaware of the truth Billy tells her that she mustn't think about what Callum did and that the sins of the father have nothing to do with Harry.

Meanwhile in the church the baby's crying is pushing Nick close to breaking point. Kylie tells David he should go and check on Sarah as she could be saying anything to Billy. However, he's saved the trouble as Sarah reappears. She apologises for her outburst and puts it down to lack of sleep.

Back on the street Sally goes into the salon to enlist Maria's help with organising Gail's birthday party. After Sally leaves, Luke comes in to talk to Maria. Ty and Fiz need all the money they can get at the moment so how is he going to break it to them that he's planning to move out?

In the Rovers, Liz is in full-on flirt mode with Sam's father, Chris discussing where she likes to go on dates. Anna brings Amy and Sam back from their music practice. Chris buys her a drink for her trouble then kisses Liz on the cheek and says he'll see her tomorrow night. But just as Liz's love life is looking up, Michelle laments the fact that hers is going the other way. Liz suggests she should Skype Steve. "What, so he can show me his tan line?" scowls Michelle.

Over at the factory Jenny's cleaning Johnny's desk. She starts talking to him about Izzy and the cannabis. Johnny admits he's in a quandary – health and safety rules are very clear on matter of drug use at work but he's sympathetic to Izzy's plight. Jenny says he's a fair man and she knows he'll do what's right. As Jenny leaves she has a quiet word with Izzy who's waiting to go in and speak to Johnny. She advises her to tell him that she only ever touches the stuff when she gets home after work. Izzy looks surprised but thanks her.

The christening party, minus Gail and Sarah who are 'sorting out the kids', arrive at the Bistro. Sally's been organising everything although there's no sign of the buffet. Nick is getting increasingly agitated and when Audrey asks him where the food is he bites her head off. David tells him to chill out and Carla comes over to see what's going on. She mentions that Nick nearly lost it on the phone earlier when he couldn't get through to someone. David looks at his brother in concern.

Johnny is speaking to Izzy in the factory. Following Jenny's advice he tells Izzy that provided she doesn't use drugs before or during work she can keep her job. A very relieved Izzy thanks Johnny and promises he won't regret it.

Sarah goes into the house to find that Gail has got both the babies off to sleep. Gail thinks she won't bother going over to the Bistro so Sarah has to tell her that she thinks the boys have a little surprise arranged for her. She gives her mother a birthday present – a pair of ear-plugs – and says sorry for being so awful when Gail has been so kind by letting them stay with her. Gail hugs her daughter and all is forgiven.

Izzy comes out of the factory where Alya is waiting for her. She apologises for the fact that it was her grandfather who blew the whistle but Izzy is quite happy as she still has her job. Jenny walks past and Izzy thanks her for her advice. Gary is next to come along. He tells Izzy how Sharif wants him out of the gym. Izzy tells him that she went to speak to Anna earlier and she hopes she managed to get through to her. They go off together to pick up Jake.

Back at the Bistro Sally's in a flap because the cake hasn't arrived, Audrey's fussing because the guest of honour isn't there, Ken is getting irritated by Freddy who not only ate the last vol-au-vent but seems able to make Audrey laugh at the drop of a hat and Nick is heading towards another meltdown. Carla asks if he's OK and he tells her he's just got a bit of a headache. Sensing he's upset Carla dispatches Bethany to go and fetch Gail and Sarah. Her ability to take charge seems to calm Nick down and he tells he loves her.

Will turns up at the Rovers to see Michelle. He claims there's a problem with the wedding. Saskia's invited another fifty people and he's worried the venue won't be big enough. He wants Michelle to go with him to take another look at it. She tells him he needs to speak to Sean but Will say's Sean's hopeless. Finally, against her better judgment, she tells him to call her tomorrow.

Luke and Maria go round to see Fiz and Ty and break the news that they're moving in together. It turns out they needn't have worried as Fiz and Ty are delighted for them.

Gail's finally turned up for her party and Sally's cake has arrived. Everyone cheers as the cake is uncovered. Unfortunately there's been a bit of a mix up on the order form and the dietary requirements have been included in the message which reads: Happy Birthday Gail No Nuts. Sally's mortified but everyone else has a good laugh. Audrey proposes a toast and starts to make a speech. For some reason this upsets Nick who suddenly tells Carla he's going to check on Sarah and slips away. Audrey continues and, fueled by one too many glasses of Prosecco, gets quite emotional, telling everyone that Gail has made a far better job of being a mother than she ever did.

David has followed Nick outside. Nick tells David he's right, the symptoms of his brain injury are coming back. David says he'll have to go back and see the specialist but Nick's scared. As he reminds David, he hit Leanne before. What if it gets worse again? It's already destroyed his marriage to Leanne – suppose it does the same to him and Carla?

Wednesday 20 April

Liz and Amy are discussing Michelle's upcoming 40th birthday, when she walks into the room. They ask if she has any plans, and she says she hasn't, and doesn't want them making any plans either, definitely no surprise parties! She then takes Amy off to school, and when she's gone Liz's phone rings. She picks it up. "Steve?" she says, and grins.

Jason and Todd go into the Kabin. Rita asks Jason if he'll have a look at a pipe that was dripping outside all night and keeping her away. He says he'll go round later. As they walk away from the shop they talk about Jason's business which is doing well he says, because Pat is drumming up business. Todd wonders how many arms he had to twist to get it. "Metaphorically speaking, of course," he adds.

Carla sees Michelle walking down the Street and rushes over to her. Noticing how glum Michelle seems to be, Carla says she doesn't know why she doesn't go back to Spain and celebrate her birthday with Steve. "Why should I?" asks Michelle, adding that she's more confused that miserable. "Confused about what?" asks Carla, but Michelle tells her it's nothing, it's just the birthday, but at least Will will take the edge off it. Carla starts to put two and two together but Michelle assures her that she just means his wedding plans, nothing has happened between the two of them. "Well if you want my advice you'll keep it that way," says Carla.

In the gym, Alya tells her grandfather that Gary is an asset to the place, he shouldn't be trying to get rid of him. Sharif tells her that he knows Gary is an asset, but he can't just ignore what he did. Alya agrees, it's a difficult decision, just like Gary had to make a difficult decision when Izzy needed his help. "Imagine if it was Gran," says Alya, "in constant pain and needed your help. You'd do it." She agrees that it was wrong in the eyes of the law, but as a man, Gary did the right thing. "Isn't that the sort of man you'd want to be partners with? He's the kind of man Dad wanted as a friend, I know that much," she says.

Nick and David are in the cafe, talking about Nick's growing temper problem. David is sure he's not going to hurt anyone, but Nick's not so sure, he can't control it.

Phelan is talking to Jason about the Freshco's job. Jason is doubtful that they can do it as they're only a two man band, but Pat tells him they just take on a part of it as a sub-contractor and hire extra people when necessary. While they're talking, Jason's phone rings. He glances at it, sees that it's his dad calling and so he doesn't answer it, saying he'll call him later. Jason goes off to get tools, when Todd comes along. He remarks to Pat that it must be hard for him, working for someone else. Pat says that working for Jason is fine. "Just as long as you remember who the boss is," says Todd.

Michelle is all dressed up in a short, tight dress with a smart jacket, she's off to see Will. Sean is concerned and tells her to take care. Stepping out of the Rovers, she finds Will waiting beside his car. He holds the door open and she gets in.

Michelle and Will are walking round the beautiful place that is to be Will's wedding venue. He senses that she's far from happy and asks her what's up. She tells him that this is not the place to discuss it, but eventually tells him that Steve can't even be bothered to come back for her birthday.

In the gym, Sharif tells Gary that he trusts him, but in future whatever he does must be done away from there. Gary thanks him, and when Sharif has moved away, turns to Dev and thanks him for putting a good word in for him. Dev tells him that it was actually Alya who spoke up for him, and Gary is dumbfounded.

Back at the builder's yard, Pat tells Jason that he was only banging on about the Freshco job because he thinks Jason has a cracking little business there and deserves to make some serious money. Then he adds that a mate of his is in security and has the keys to the Freshco site, they could go round and check it out, get ahead of the game. Jason isn't so sure, he's got to go round and fix Rita's drip. Pat is horrified and tells him he has to get his business head on. All he's suggesting is they go round, check it out and then do their sums. Eventually Jason agrees and Pat says he'll organise it.

Michelle and Will are still at the venue, discussing the wedding plans. Now it's his turn to seem distracted and she asks if anything is wrong. "We need to talk," he says, "about you and me." He tells her he still has feelings for her, but she tells him she's married, and he's here looking at the wedding venue for his marriage to Saskia. He says his head is all over the place, but he has feelings for her and knows she feels the same. Michelle looks at him and then jumps up. "I can't do this, I've got to go," she says, and rushes out.

David arrives home to find Bethany eating toast, and moans at her about the amount of his bread that she's eating. Then he tells her not to upset Nick at all.

Johnny and Kate come out of the factory and stop to chat to Sophie. Just then Kate gets a phone call. Then she tells them that Caz has had an accident during training, they're bringing her home.

Gary sees Alya outside her house and thanks her for putting a good word in with Sharif. She says she knows he did what he did for the right reasons, and he's a good person.

Todd is in the cafe with Eileen and asks her if he can move back home. She's not keen, she tells him the place is a madhouse and she wants to make sure she and Pat have some space.

Rita comes in and moans to Todd about Jason, he hasn't come to fix her drip. Todd offers to go round and see if he can do something.

Carla is in the pub talking to Sean, and worrying about Michelle. Then Liz asks Sean if he's heard from Michelle, and, swearing him to secrecy, tells him that Steve is coming back for Michelle's party. "Can you imagine her face when she sees him?" she says.

Outside the pub, Will's car pulls up with Michelle in it. He says it wasn't easy for him to say what he said, he wants her and he knows that she wants him. Michelle, looking tortured, gets out of the car and he drives off.

Anne Logan

Friday 22 April

We start in the cafe, where Luke and Cathy discuss the merits of brown or red sauce. Cathy congratulates him on his engagement. She's a bit worries because Alex is half an hour later.

Luke sees Bethany at a table and goes to sit with her. It seems she's still being bullied but nobody at home listens to her or cares about her, she says.

A huge bunch of flowers has been delivered for Michelle's 40th birthday and she's thrilled that Steve's remembered. Of course, they're not from Steve. Michelle stomps out in a temper and Liz reads the binned card - the flowers are from Will. Anna admires the flowers and Liz tells her they're from someone whose wedding Michelle arranged. When Liz is alone she calls Steve. "I hope your phone is switched off because you are on that plane! You need to get your sorry backside home sharpish!"

Sally and Tim bicker as they leave the house. Tim believes Sally doesn't think he's good enough for her. Sally denies it but with the next breath is ordering him about again, telling him to get the leaflets delivered right away. The Freshco development public meeting is tonight. Sophie's grumpy because Caz has had an accident and Kate wants her to stay with her to recuperate.

That's exactly what Johnny and Kate are talking about. Caz has nowhere else to go and Kate still loves her. But she's putting bedding on the sofa so it seems clear that's where Caz will sleep. Johnny tells her Caz is welcome to stay but warns her not to get her hopes up.

Rita's definitely against Freshco. She tells Todd her business will definitely suffer and warns him that Freshco sells flowers. Phelan comes in and joins in the conversation, saying he and Jason might get some work. Todd puts him straight. It's Jason's business, not Pat's. Rita suggests Pat could have a word with Sally. She might be a new councilor but she's already on the planning committee. It's a hung council so her independent vote is important. Phelan seems very interested.

Michelle and Carla talk about aging and Michelle says she's only had a Happy Birthday text from Steve. At least Will cares. Carla tells her off, saying that she an Steve have something that's important and real. If that's so, asks Michelle, why isn't he here?

Yasmeen's busy making sure everybody knows about the meeting and asks Anna to hand leaflets to cafe customers. Freshco has a cafeteria. Alex comes in, claiming he didn't hear his alarm. It's clear he's hung over.

In the pub's yard, Will comes to see Michelle. He's got a cupcake with a candle in it. He asks if she meant what she said yesterday but Michelle doesn't know. "Please, Will, I don't want to do this. Not now." Will asks if she's going to celebrate and suggests she come over to his place. He'll cook dinner. Saskia's gone back to Switzerland. They step apart as they hear Liz coming. Michelle blows out the candle and Will leaves.

Bethany's surrounded by bullies near the school bus stop. They're hounding her down the street when her knight in shining armour appears - Luke driving a convertible. "Sorry I'm late, Beth," he says and a grateful Bethany gets into the car, leaving her tormenters with open mouths.

In the pub, Tim chats to Michelle about the driver who's gone to the airport to pick up Steve. Dang. It was meant to be a surprise that he's coming home for a surprise party. Michelle is suddenly very happy.

Phelan approaches Sally outside her house, using flattery to persuade her to have a drink with him in the Bistro - his treat.

As Caz gets out of the car, she snaps at Sophie who seems to just happen to be nearby. Kate explains that Caz hurt herself in a parachute jump. Johnny suggests quietly to Sophie that she back off for a bit.

Michelle happily watches the decorations go up in the pub. Tim, who's helping with this rather than deliver leaflets, gets a phone call. It seems the driver can't find Steve anywhere at the airport. Michelle's now very grumpy and stomps out.

Sally tells Phelan the Freshco planning application is not a simple issue. She's going to be guided by what the public thinks. Phelan takes an interest in where and when the public meeting is being held. She moans about Tim not delivering the leaflets about it and Phelan tells her he'll get it sorted. "Leave them with me."

In the pub, Tim mentions what tiring work it is blowing up balloons, though he's had free drinks already. Carla can't work out why they're still bothering with the party preparations but Liz has more faith in Steve and tells Tim to keep going. Michelle's all dressed up and says she's going out. Carla can't stop her.

In the cafe, Bethany's bought Luke a thank-you coffee. She talks gleefully about the look on Laura's face.

Alex looks at cat videos instead of working (as you do) and when Cathy takes him by the arm he flinches. He pulls up his sleeve to reveal a new tattoo. It looks like Cliff Richard. Cathy thinks it's Christopher Biggins and Alex says it's John Lennon.

Phelan puts Sally's leaflets in the bin. He sees Yasmeen leaving the Tardis community centre, where there was once just room for Fred and Ashley and some sides of beef and where now there's room for public meetings. Phelan makes conversation and discovers Yasmeen is going home for a while before coming back to put out the chairs.

Michelle arrives at a big house and knocks on the door. Will opens it.

Ooh!

The end of the first episode.
Margaret Carr

Good afternoon. Time for another update and this is episode 8888. It was written by Chris Fewtrell and directed by Jo Johnson. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. Margaret did have the wrong date on her last update - it was 22 April (and not May).

We open with Phelan the current no good guy on the Street emerging from the builders' yard and then forcing entry into the Community Centre.

Over at the Rovers a party is about to happen. Sean, Maria, Eva and Aidan arrive but Tim reports that the party is off. Steve is apparently not returning for Michelle's 40th and even Eva thinks he is trying to wreck his marriage. They are unhappy at losing the party and Michelle has gone out dressed up to the nines.

We find Michelle in a nice warm room displaying her curvaceous assets to Will who is pouring more excellent (white - for those in the know) wine into her glass following the speedy consumption of the first glass. She says she is not sure why she is there. He says enjoying her birthday with an old mate, nice dinner and enjoy the company.

At Roy's Alex and Cathy are discussing his tattoo which he eventually admits that his mother does not know about. Apparently the new boyfriend is keeping her occupied and he has some new friends - and he promises not to be late for work again tomorrow, he is to take it steady this evening. He always takes it steady but sometimes the world goes wobbly.

Caz is picking at a plateful of food and not speaking. She tells Kate that she is not really hungry. Kate says she needs to eat to recover more quickly. Caz says that getting her out of the place is all that concerns Kate. Caz says she will not hand around making things difficult for her and Sophie. Kate re-iterates that it was only one, one-sided kiss. Caz is not convinced. She has not waked up the aisle and is stuck on the sofa with a fractured ankle being spoon fed by her ex. Caz is in a state! She blames Sophie for all of it. Caz says that if Kate really thought anything of her she would not be talking to Sophie at all and she would have binned Sophie off of her own volition, not under pressure from Caz. Kate agrees to tell Sophie to stay away.

In the Rovers Alex is showing off the tattoo of John Lennon. Cathy arrives and she wants him to go home but he insists on buying Aidan and Tim the next round. Tim promises to look after him.

Phelan is peering out of the door. He leaves but as he walks down the Street Todd spots him and they exchange a brief conversation.

Will and Michelle are now sitting on the same sofa with Lis Stansfield singing gently in the background. Will reminds her that this is "their" song. She laughs in recognition of "All around the World". Mark Underwood's bonfire party. Their first snog. Will started wriggling and making weird noises. He had sat on a baked potato. Anyway he has to go and poach some salmon. If not they will need a takeaway and he does not want to be the one responsible for ruining her lovely figure. She admits she did not come for the food. And she did not come for the wine either. She wanted to be with someone who cares. He moves a lot closer and they snog each other quite comprehensively.*

Back at the Rovers Tim is throwing nuts and eating them as they come down. Alex has a go. Again Cathy wants him to go home and says she will have to go with him. Apparently Alex's mum's new boyfriend is loaded and has been handing over lots of dosh. Cathy says it should not be wasted on beer and taxis. She drags him off to catch a Wayfarer. Maria and Aidan are going to head into town. Sean is working because Liz has got one of her heads**. And at this moment Steve staggers through the front door carrying a stuffed donkey and says "Buenos tardes, amigos" and asks for the birthday girl. No-one wants to tell him as Sean stands there open-mouthed.

After the break we find Luther Vandross is singing "Never Too Much" as the passionate clinch between 'Chelle and Will continues. She tells him she is 40 years old and she knows what she is doing. (To be fair to Kym she is only 39 but usually looks much younger). And although it is not her flat she leads him upstairs.

Phelan is eating an apple and from across the Street watches as Yasmeen approaches the open door of the Community Centre. Phelan leaves the yard. Inside the centre it has been trashed - all the tables upturned and books everywhere. Spray paint on white surfaces and it is completely wrecked. Phelan enters and expresses surprise. He suggests it might be kids. He denies seeing anything as he was in the office doing some quotes with Johnny Cash turned up to 11. But he did see three lads hanging around earlier, hiding under hoods. Sal arrives to find the wreckage of the community centre, she is worried about the planned meeting. Phelan and Jason will put it right the former says at a mate's rate. Phelan tells Yasmeen to go and have a rest he will resecure the door and tell people the meeting will be re-organised. Phelan says they all have to do something for the local community!

Aidan is in the back room waiting for a catch up with Steve when Sean pokes his head round the door. But Liz has collared him first and is reading him the Riot Act. Apparently his taxi was late and his phone was flat. Sean observes that if Michelle does anything daft it will be Steve's own fault. Sean refuses to say more, although he obviously knows what Michelle was doing.

Now Terence Trent D'Arby is singing - "Sign Your Name" - and Will and Michelle are still snogging - but clothed - this time on the bed when she looks up and see photos of Will and his intended. And she comes to her senses and pushes him away. She knows she was happy and so was he. She has albums of photos too. And she knows she should not be there. She says she will never be ready to be with Will. She still has something worth fighting for at home. Will says that Steve does not deserve her. She makes it clear - she loves Steve. Will tries to stop her leaving but she insists.

On the Street Sophie runs into Kate who is just going to the Corner Shop. Kate tells her uncertainly she is not welcome and Soph does not get it. Caz blames Sophie for the accident and Kate wants to salvage things so they cannot be mates. Sophie does not take it well. Kate stalks away.

Tim and Todd are playing darts. Sal arrives and he asks about the meeting - apparently he failed to deliver the leaflets he promised to deliver. Apparently the banners for 'Chelle's birthday were more important than supporting his wife. Sal relays that she got Pat Phelan to deliver the leaflets and he was very helpful. But there was no meeting due to the vandalism at the Community Centre. Todd listens carefully as Sal explains that Pat Phelan was also there. Todd's mind goes into overdrive. Sal orders Tim home. They walk across the Street gently bickering as Sal insists her pyjamas are staying on tonight and they spot Sophie sitting on Maxeem's bench. Sal joins Sophie who is having a little think. Sal's guessed it is about Kate and Sophie confirms that they cannot be friends any longer because of not upsetting Caz. Sally is sympathetic. Sally is reminded of her own silly kiss with Kev and how they all made up and says Sophie may be able to do the same.

Phelan is locking the yard when Todd asks how come he is so late and Phelan responds that he has been busy in the community centre. Phelan tells him there are some dodgy people about round here. Todd says that he knows his enemies. Phelan says that the things he does are for the good of the business and his brother Jason. Todd says that Jason and Eileen might be fooled but he is not. Todd assures Pat Phelan that one of these days he will slip up and Todd will be right there. Pat reminds him of Michael saying the same thing and tells Todd to mind how he goes.

Michelle enters the back room and is surprised to find Steve. He has had a rough day and was a bit worried about her. She just gives him a huge hug and tells him to forget the present - she has missed him so much. She says he seemed happy in Spain and he agrees it was nice - but what good is a sunset without you? Or doing something daft and not being able to laugh about it with you? More than half of him was missing Michelle. "Listen Michelle you are the best of me, I am never going to let you go again" says Steve. They hug and then over Steve's shoulder Michelle is in tears realising that she almost made a huge mistake.

Roll credits

* No doubt millions of us were shouting "Don't do this at our screens" at this point. In the words of another soap "He ain't wurf it 'Chelle, put him down you don't know where he has been". And then we remembered the white wine - intercourse only follows red wine on Corrie for some reason. And we know Michelle loves Steve - she forgave him for Becky after all and hasn't she gone on to some great parts since leaving?

** It is not clear if this was a change to the original script or was unchanged. We still have a period to go before she leaves the Street and I think this was probably as written.

Steve's absence was extended to allow some paternal leave following the birth of a baby. Let us hope that they can find a partner for him to replace Lloyd that will provide some of the lighter comedy moments we have been missing.

Stuart Blackburn remains the credited Producer for this episode - but we must be close to the point at which this changes.

See you next week.

Monday 25 April

Written by John Kerr Directed by Tessa Hoffe

While Jason is packing the van, Phelan and Eileen are canoodling on the doorstep and talking about a deal he's going to try to wangle later. Steve comes along, having been to the shop. This is the first time Eileen has seen him since he's been back and they hug affectionately. Steve continues off and Jason and Phelan get to business. Todd stops off on the way to work, asking about the community center clean up job. Phelan says he doesn't know who could have done the damage other than some kids.

Steve comes into the back room and hands Aidan the jug of milk he's brought back from Dev's and remarks that Dev wasn't too pleased to hear Steve has quit smoking. Aidan asks what he's going to do with the spare money he's saved. Booze? Steve has noticed that Amy is giggling on the phone with someone and is told Sam is her boyfriend, Aidan thinks. Steve is surprised to hear his mother has a new fella too, Sam's dad, Chris. He's got a lot to catch up on. Michelle comes through and it's obvious she's tired and agrees she is wrecked. She didn't sleep well. Steve thinks it's because she got used to sleeping alone and isn't used to sharing. She's not saying but we know what's weighing heavy on her mind.

Cathy is confirming on the phone with Roy that she'll clean out the freezer. She hands up and serves Kate, asking after Caz. She's told that Caz isn't a very patient patient. She leaves just as Alex has arrived, hung over. He asks for some money and is scolded for spending all his money on booze and tattoos. She sets him to cleaning the freezer for a tenner. At another table, Rana gets up and puts on her jacket to get to work, musing that a life of leisure would greatly appeal. Maybe she needs a rich husband, she jokes to Zeedan. Before she can get out the door, Yasmeen comes in and tells Rana that the first aid session that she'd be hosting tonight is still on. The work to clear things up will be done by then. Zeedan is pleased everything will be sorted then teases Rana by telling his gran that she had been saying she wanted to do more with her time. Great. Rana pastes on a smile and they set a time for 5 p.m., roping Zeedan in as her assistant.

Steve offers to help Michelle finish setting up but she's cool with him and breaks out of a cuddle. Steve is a bit shocked that she's not as happy to have him back as he thought but she points out that things don't stay the same with him gone months on end. It doesn't matter that Andy needed him, she needed him too (doesn't Andy have friends that could have helped?) She throws up her hands and goes to make a phone call.

Aidan sees Eva on the street. Eva is just returning from the dentist. The two of them flirt and kiss. Aidan breaks away and heads to work as Jason comes up. He and Eva have a talk. Jason is pleased she's found someone. He takes a call from Phelan who says he's got a meeting for a new job later which pleases him.

Maria comes into the pub to give Michelle a belated birthday card, hand made from Liam. It's covered in glitter and she's very pleased. Maria asks if everything is ok, since she missed her party the night before. Michelle is circumspect but insists she's fine. I think Maria is skeptical but she leaves it at that and leaves.

In the cafe, Sean is wittering on about Michelle missing her birthday party but Billy is lost in thought. He lets Sean think his mind is on one of his flock. He expresses a bit of annoyance at Sean's gossiping and doesn't want to give him any information about what is on his mind. Sean is then put out when Billy jumps up and decides he has to leave and take care of something. What's going on?

Sean and Phelan have nearly finished the work for Yasmeen who is very grateful. Todd drops over to see them and suggests the offenders might have been caught on CCTV. There isn't any for the community center but the builders' yard has it, maybe something is on the recordings there. Good idea! Todd ushers Jason over to the yard for a quick look before he has to go to a meeting. Pat comes out of the community center behind them, having heard the conversation, and looking none too pleased, but not nervous either.

After the break, we're in the office looking up the recordings. Phelan has arrived to chivvy Jason along as their meeting is in 20 minutes but also thinks it's a good idea to check the CCTV. Of course he does. There's no video for the date in question. Phelan then goes to the connection and sees that the camera is unplugged. He accuses Jason of using the connection to charge his phone and forgetting to plug the camera back in. Jason doesn't think he did but doesn't argue the point too far. It's probably something he's done in the past. Todd's face seems to say "Well, now, there's a coincidence. Why am I not surprised?" He and Phelan exchange looks. Phelan's remark about Todd playing with his pansies is called homophobic, jokingly, as well as a scurrilous remark about Phelan's ugly looks all being part of the package that his mother is hooked up with, a "real winner this time" but not in a good way. Phelan warns Todd trying to turn Jason and Eileen against him. It won't work. There's a vague threat in there, as well.

Steve buys Eileen a drink. He admits he missed her and gets filled in on her breakup with Michael and new relationship, hoping she's happy. He thinks Phelan is more her type, bald. She likes bald guys, he says. They exchange a bit more banter which is a lovely thing to hear. I've missed it.

In the factory, Sean tells Eva that he and Billy have had a sort-of row after Billy got annoyed with him for gossiping. He's not sure what to do though is advised by Kate and Eva to apologize if only for keeping the peace.

The meeting is over. Jason and Phelan are rejoicing. It was a good meeting, they've got one of the contracts for the Fresco's development. There will be lots of work over the next few months and will need to take someone on. Yasmeen comes over to pay them and thank them for their help. Her payment includes a little bonus. Jason and Phelan head to the pub but Todd declines the invitation.

Cathy serves lunch to Aidan. Alex is making plans to meet a friend. He's done with the freezer but not quite done with the cupboards. Cathy insists he finish the job. His friends will wait.

Eileen and Steve chat about Tim and how he's getting on with the business. There's more banter before she turns to leave.

Zeedan is helping set up tables at Yasmeen's instruction. Rana arrives a bit early. Yasmeen leaves them so she can go home and get changed. Rana points out they have 20 minutes and pulls him into a storage cupboard for a snog.

Jason and Phelan are in the pub catching up with Steve. He's lost weight but not got a tan because he doesn't like the sun so much. They go to a booth and the door opens. Will walks in and asks for Michelle. Neither one, of course, has no idea who the other is. Steve tells him Michelle is upstairs and Will insists that someone get her but won't say what it's about, telling Steve it's none of his business. Steve's hackles start to rise as Sean arrives and takes in the situation. He intervenes and tells Steve that Will is one of Michelle's clients. He introduces Steve as Michelle's husband. Steve goes to get Michelle. Will thanks Sean for the catch but Sean coolly tells him he only did it because Steve and Michelle are his friends, not for his sake.

Michelle is in the kitchen trying to get hold of Carla but she's not available. Steve finds her and tells her Will is looking for her. She pastes on a smile for her "client" and heads out into the bar.

Phelan isn't going to stay for another pint, preferring to get a bottle of wine for he and Eileen. Steve and Michelle come out from the back. Steve begs off and goes over to Streetcars to talk to Tim and leaves her with a kiss. She's a bit defensive. Will has to tell her something but she insists that she loves her husband and he's about to get married. She's shocked when he tells her he's broken up with Saskia and the wedding is off.

In a booth, Sean and Billy are having a drink. Sean apologizes and witters on again about the wedding planning business. Billy is further annoyed at him for being petty minded and self obsessed.

Eileen is about to settle down to a newspaper and a cup of tea but there's a knock on the door. She sighs and goes to the door but is stopped short when she sees two police officers asking for Jason. They need to speak to him about his father and need to come inside. What's going on there?

Written by Jayne Hollinson and directed by Tessa Hoffe

The first scene opens in the Rovers where Will is telling Michelle that he's broken off his engagement to Saskia.

We move across the room where Billy's trying to reassure Sean that he doesn't want to break up with him. He's sorry if he's been a bit off but he claims it's just because he's feeling a bit stressed. The question is, why?

Meanwhile back over by the bar Will is devastated to hear that Michelle's decided she loves Steve after all and has no intention of leaving him. Will tells her he's given up everything to be with her. Michelle says she never asked Will to leave Saskia but agrees that she did use him.

Jason's enjoying a pint when Eileen comes looking for him. She asks him to come home. They need to talk and it's important.

Over at the community centre everyone has started to arrive for the first aid talk but there's no sign of Rana. Yasmeen tries calling her mobile and there's the sound of ringing coming from inside the store room. Zeedan and Rana emerge looking somewhat flustered and claim they were getting equipment ready. Yasmeen has some fun at their expense then suggests Zee might want to wipe the lipstick off his neck before they start, unless it's supposed to look like imaginary blood.

Eileen and Jason arrive home where she breaks the news about his father. She explains that they believe Tony had a heart attack but they'll need to do a post mortem. Jason is in complete shock.

In Roy's Rolls, Alex has finished his chores so Cathy gives him some money. She invites him to stay for tea but Alex has other plans. She gives him a hug and reminds him that he doesn't need to have a drink in order to enjoy himself.

We return to the Grimshaws' where Todd has now arrived. As if the news wasn't bad enough Jason learns that his father may have lain dead for several days before they found him. Todd tries offering some words of comfort but Jason is beating himself up about the fact that his dad had left a phone message asking if they could meet up. Jason says he never got round to calling him back. They're interrupted by a knock on the door – it's Phelan who's in high spirits and in celebratory mood. Eileen tells him what's happened and he immediately switches into concerned mode. Jason takes himself upstairs. Todd watches while Phelan gives Eileen a comforting hug – Todd can see straight through Phelan and doesn't trust him for a moment.

In the Rovers Michelle is filling in Carla about Will. Although nothing actually happened and she knows she loves Steve Michelle admits she was really tempted and now feels very guilty.

Back at the Grimshaws' Sean and Billy have now arrived. They're discussing Tony when Jason comes downstairs. Shock has now turned into denial and he wonders if the police got it wrong. Maybe it was one of his mates they found in his flat and not his dad. He wants to see the body. Now. Eileen says she'll go with him. Phelan offers to drive them but Eileen says they'll get a taxi. The moment they've gone Todd tells Phelan he should go as this is a family matter. But Phelan makes it clear he isn't going anywhere.

Michelle is still having a heart to heart with Carla. She's feeling so guilty about what nearly happened that she feels she needs to tell Steve but Carla advises her not to go there. She says that sometimes when you love someone it's better not to tell them everything. And she, of all people, knows what she's talking about.

Tim arrives for his shift at Street Cars where we're treated to a fun scene with Steve. They are showing signs of becoming new best mates as they bond over the comfy chair and a packet of lemon puff biscuits. Tim mentions how miserable Michelle's been looking in recent weeks so Steve resolves to cheer her up by booking a table at the Bistro and buying the biggest bunch of flowers he can find.

As the class ends at the community centre Rana admits she quite enjoyed it in the end. Yasmeen asks if she's referring to the first aid or what she was getting up to beforehand then laughs as she catches Zee's expression. Rana gives Zee a kiss and suggests they could go back to his place and get up to even more but Zee's not keen – he says he respects her too much for that. Rana doesn't seem too impressed – she seems like the sort of girl who's more than happy to be disrespected.

Michelle calls into Streetcars looking for Steve. Tim tells her he's had to pop out so Michelle leaves him a message – please can he go home as she needs to talk to him.

Eileen and Jason arrive back home from seeing Tony. Eileen says she ought to go and tell Liz and Jason flies off the handle – why should she care given how she treated Tony? Billy tries to reassure Eileen that Jason isn't angry with her and then says he'd better get off and give them all some peace.

Outside in the street Sean apologises to Billy for sulking earlier and Billy says sorry for snapping at him. As Sean is telling Billy how proud he is of him they're interrupted by Billy's phone. He glances at the screen and cancels the call, telling Sean it can wait. As they walk off up the street arm in arm, Billy's clearly worried about something.

Someone else who's worried about something is Michelle who is sitting at the table waiting for Steve to come home so she can talk to him. But when he arrives he presents her with an enormous bouquet of flowers. She starts to cry as she tells him how much she missed him while he was away. She seems on the point of telling him about Will but before she can get the words out, Steve asks if she's going to leave him. He hopes not he says because he really, really loves her. Michelle says of course not, through her tears, and tells him that's all she wanted to say – that she loves him too and really, really missed him.

We return to Eileen's where she's still in shock over Tony. Todd offers to stay over but, quick as a flash, Phelan tells him there's no need as he's going to stay. He hands Todd his jacket to emphasize the point. After Todd has gone Phelan asks Eileen about Tony. She tells him they met when Tony was seventeen. As she reminisces she says you could never really trust Tony but it didn't stop you wanting to. Phelan replies that some men are like that. Eileen says that she's going to miss Tony, even though it annoys her to admit it.

Jason comes into the room at that moment and he's been doing some thinking. He reasons that if it hadn't been for Liz his dad would never have left in the first place, he'd have been there with his family when he had his heart attack and they could have saved him. Eileen gently tells him that he doesn't know that and she still thinks they need to tell Liz. "I'll tell her alright," says Jason, angrily. "My dad would still be alive if it wasn't for her. This is all her fault."

Wednesday 27 April

Jason is upset because he never called his dad back when he missed his call the other day, and he's beating himself up about it while Eileen tries to get him to eat something for breakfast. He then blames Liz for driving his dad away and causing the two of them to drift apart. He tells Eileen he hates Liz's guts. Just at that moment Todd walks through the door with suitcases. "Where are you going?" asks a startled Eileen. "Nowhere," says Todd, "I'm moving back in!"

In the cafe, Eva and Anna are discussing Tony's death from a heart attack and how upset Jason is. When Eva has gone, Cathy apologises to Anna for the fact that Alex hasn't shown up, she doesn't know where he is and he's not answering his phone. She starts to worry and says she's going round if he doesn't show up soon. Tracy comes into the cafe and Anna breaks the news about Tony. Tracy seems visibly shocked.

Todd is telling his mother that at a time like this he feels they should all be together, and starts pulling things out of his suitcase. Eileen tries to stop him, saying she already has a full house, but Todd reckons that family comes before fancy man – and looks at Pat. Then Jason speaks up and says he'd like Todd there, he's right, they should all be together, so Eileen agrees. Then Jason jumps up and tells Pat they must get off to work. Eileen doesn't want him to go, she says he's in no fit state, but Jason says he doesn't want to sit about all day getting angry. Pat however, overrules him, he says his head is all over the place and he needs time to himself.

Eva and Sean are outside the factory and see Billy walking down the other side of the Street. She asks if Sean had a word with Billy – has he gone off him? Sean says he was overreacting, Billy just had a lot on his mind.

Billy arrives at Eileen's front door, he's come to see Jason. She's just off to break the bad news to Liz.

In the cafe, Cathy is just about to go and look for Alex when he walks in, saying he's got a bad headache and would like a bacon sarnie before he can work. Further questioning from Cathy establishes that Alex seems to have a hangover, some of his mates went round last night.

Eileen is in the back room of the pub with Liz, where she tells her about Tony. Liz is incredulous, she thought he was as fit as a fiddle. She asks how Jason is, and Eileen tells her how cut-up he is. They talk about Tony for a while and agree that while he was many things, he was never boring.

Billy is making tea, but Jason pulls a beer out of the fridge. He then asks Billy why God let this happen. Billy starts to say that he hasn't got any answers, but then his phone rings. He looks at it and puts it back in his pocket, but he's lost his thread and stumbles on for a moment, and then his phone rings again. Jason then says he can't bear being stuck in the house, and turns round and walks out.

Nick is walking past the salon when David rushes out and asks if he'd like a free haircut, they've had a cancellation. Nick doesn't need a haircut and tells David that's a novel way of running a salon. David explains that Nick has a wedding coming up, and obviously has a lot on his mind. David is worried about him. Nick eventually agrees to come back later for a haircut.

Eileen meets Jason out in the Street and asks where he's going. "Pub," says Jason, "I need a drink." Eileen points out that there are beers in the fridge, she doesn't want him to go in the pub and take his anger out on Liz, she's really upset. Jason reckons that it's all a big act with Liz, so Eileen begs him not to make any trouble.

A gray haired man, who turns out to be George Duggan, arrives at the yard, and he's obviously an old business associate of Pat's, but he seems to be in charge of the Freshco contract. He asks if this is Pat's business, and Pat sort of sidesteps the question. Just then Jason arrives. Pat asks what he's doing there, and Jason retorts that as he's the owner, why shouldn't he be there?

Sean arrives back home for lunch to find Billy sitting alone in the living room. Billy says he just wanted to shut himself away for a bit, and starts to put his jacket on. Sean tells him not to rush off, and asks if he'd like a sandwich, but Billy doesn't. Sean asks where Jason is, and Billy tells him he walked out in disgust. The last thing Jason wanted was a phoney vicar spouting platitudes. Just then his phone rings again, but Billy shuts if off, saying he doesn't want to talk to anyone.

Back at the yard, Pat is urging Jason to go home, but Jason refuses, and tells Pat he's starting to do his head in. Pat nods towards the client and says there's a lot riding on it and takes a sander off him, saying he's in no fit state to use power tools. Jason eventually goes off and Pat walks over Mr Duggan, telling him that Jason is more of a sleeping partner, Pat holds the reins. Jason by this time is shifting bags of cement, and Mr Duggan tells him to cheer up – it may never happen. Jason glares at him. "It already has!" he snaps. As the guy walks off, answering his phone, Pat tells Jason that this man is their ticket to the big time, they should roll out the red carpet, brown nose if necessary. He urges Jason to go home, or go and get drunk. Jason tells him his mum has stopped him going to the pub, she's scared what he'll say to Liz, but Pat urges him to go to the pub and give Liz a piece of his mind. As Jason walks off, Pat mutters to himself - "Wind 'em up, watch 'em go!"

As Jason walks past the florist's, Tracy calls out to him and tells him how sorry she was to hear about Tony, and how, if things had worked out differently, they might still have been together. Then she asks when the funeral is, and hands him a business card. "When you get round to it, you know where we are," she says.

Alya goes home to find Zeedan in the kitchen. He tells her that Rana has seemed a bit off last night, and now isn't answering his calls. He says that he wants her to know he respects her, not that he doesn't fancy her. "Oh!" says Alya, suddenly understanding what he means. "Well maybe it just wasn't meant to be," she says. He says he's never met anyone like her. "She's a one-off," agrees Alya.

Jason walks into the pub and asks Liz for lager and whisky. Liz tells him she's sorry about his dad, it was a shock. "Like you care!" snaps Jason, "you wanted him gone and now he's gone for good!" She says she wanted her pub back, but not what happened to him. Jason tells her she conned Tony into thinking there was a way back for them both, but all along she had no intentions – it was all a big act. "You got your revenge, I lost my dad," he says. Liz tells him she loved his dad, but Jason says she didn't, she made him leave. He starts bringing out a string of insults when Eileen comes in behind him and stops him. Then Jason tells Liz to stick her drink, he doesn't want to stay and look at the bitch that ruined his life. He turns and slams out of the door. Eileen tells Liz she's so sorry, and then rushes after him. "Jason, It's not true and it's not fair. Your dad cheated on Liz!" she shouts as he strides off down the Street. "He cheated on everyone," she mutters quietly.

Eva is coming up the Street and looks across towards the ginnel where she sees Billy hand the young lad a wad of cash. "You've got what you came for, now leave me alone," he says, as the boy runs off. Eva then stops Billy and asks if he's all right. "Is someone bothering you?" she asks. Billy looks embarrassed, then jokes that people think he's a cash point, and hurries off.

Nick has arrived at the salon, where David asks if he's looking forward to the wedding, and wonders if it's stressful. Nick tells him he's going to see the doctor next week to get checked out.

Jason has arrived home, quickly followed by Eileen and Pat. Eileen tells Pat what Jason did in the Rovers, but Jason says Liz deserved it. Pat says he's spent half and hour trying to talk George Duggan round about the Freshco job. Jason shouts that they all need to stop giving him a hard time, and storms out of the room. Eileen is shocked and scared, but Pat says he'll be fine. "How do you know?" asks Eileen. "He's got me now, both of you have," says Pat.

Friday 29 April

Hello,

We open with Phelan, Jason and Todd getting set to go and start cleaning out Tony's flat. But first, Jason apologises to Eileen and they take a moment to talk to Eva and Aidan, who've come over to offer condolences.

In the cafe, Alex has cleaned the cooker, freezer and cupboards. Zeedan and Alya come in for coffee.

In the Kabin, Rita and Audrey go through some photos Emily's posted online. Ken comes in and Audrey makes an awkward excuse and leaves. Rita teases Ken about Audrey but he says he's come in for a paper, not relationship counseling.

As they leave the cafe, Zeedan and Alya discuss the future - he's going to be a famous chef and she'll be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company (She must be moving to the USA). They meet Rana, who apologises for not being in touch and says her phone went wrong. When can she see Zeedan? Once Rana's gone, Alya calls Zeedan a mug.

Tony's flat has stuff piled everywhere. Phelan picks up the post that's accumulated and starts going through it. Todd snatches it from him. Jason is very emotional. When he moves his Dad's toolbag from the sofa he breaks down.

At the factory, Eva tells the machinists about Jason. She and Sean discuss kindness and she tells Sean about how kind Billy is - she saw him give 20 pounds to some homeless kid.

Jason turns on the CD player and discovers Tony had been listening to some Rod Stewart. He smiles as he sees a pile of used teabags by the sink. Phelan tries to cross-examine Todd about Tony and Todd gets annoyed. Jason goes to find something for Tony to wear on his last journey.

Cathy serves lunch to Sean and Billy. Sean's a bit annoyed that Billy's not answered his text messages. He reckons he sends them out like prayers - with no guarantee he'll get a personal response. He asks Billy about the money he gave a homeless person.

In the street, Kylie and David discuss the smoothie he's drinking - it's called Berry Heaven. Kylie takes it to have a sip but Nick comes charging around the corner in his jogging gear and spills it all down the front of her white shirt. She's furious and has to go home to change. Nick seems a bit stunned and out of it and snaps at David.

Jason discovers Tony kept a photo of him as a child. It's the only picture of Jason in the place. He's confused by what clothes to choose and rushes out of the bedroom saying, "I can't do this!"

I've never noticed the "Jason's Construction" sign on the yard before. Jason's in there in tears.

David rings Nick's doorbell but there's no answer. He calls Nick and leaves a message for him to call when he's back from the doctor's.

Sean makes Jason promise to behave.

Kylie tells Audrey about Nick's aggression and David defends him, saying he'd just run 10km. Ken comes in and asks Audrey out for a drink.

Todd's on the phone to Jason. Phelan tells Eileen there's a lot to sort out. He says Jason gave him a chance so the least he can do is make sure the business keeps going while Jason deals with Tony's death.

Zeedan sees Rana apparently flirting with doctor outside the medical centre and introduces himself as her boyfriend. The doctor shakes his hand and goes back to the medical centre.

Billy's got a take-out drink from the cafe. He's on the phone telling someone he's not getting any more money. When he steps around the corner he bumps straight into Kylie and spills his drink all over her shirt.

In the cafe, Alex is stressed out because he doesn't want to move to Scotland with his mother.

Eileen's still thanking Phelan for his help. He says anyone would have done the same. He tells her he's being evicted from his digs because the landlord needs the room for his daughter. Eileen tells him of course he must move in with her. He protests but, of course, we all know this is what he really wants. Eileen goes to check on Jason and Phelan phones his landlord to break the news that he'll be moving out.

Nick's being referred back to his consultant. He hasn't told Carla yet, he tells David.

Jason tells Eva about seeing the pile of teabags - Jason does just the same with his teabags, only because he doesn't live alone they don't get piled up into such a big tower.

In the pub, Sean tells Todd and Billy and Aidan what a grand job Eva's doing with Jason. She's been talking with him for nearly an hour. That changes suddenly, though, when Eva says she understands and Jason snaps that nobody understands. He gets aggressive, Aidan steps in and the next thing you know, the two of them are facing off.

The end.

Welcome to another update. This is episode 8893 and I am going for a fast update this week. It was written by Joe Turner and the director was Tessa Hoffe. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We open in the Rovers with Aidan and Jason tussling with Billy, Todd and Eva trying to separate them. Pat wades in and is slightly more successful in separating them. He tells Aidan that Tony (Jason's father) has died whilst Todd holds onto Jason. Johnny arrives and wants to know what is happening. Pat gives Aidan a warning as to his future behaviour but does not let go of Aidan, so Johnny hits him from behind. Sean asks everyone if that is the end of it. Billy leaps in front of Pat Phelan before he can turn on Johnny. Billy tells Pat to fight him and not the Connors. Pat says he cannot smash a vicar and Billy offers to remove his collar. Having gained control Billy orders Pat and Johnny into different corners of the bar. Once calm has descended Bill apologises to Sean. "Sorry nothing" says Sean behind the bar "That was amazing."

Along at Roy's Rolls Kathy is getting Alex to tell his story again. Alex does not like haggis and Nessa wants to go and live in Scotland with Uncle Frank (the new boyfriend). Alex says she is selling the house, although Kathy says she can be unreliable. Kathy is going to phone Nessa and Alex needs a drink. Whilst she is getting her mobile Alex slips out of the cafe.

At the Nazir's house Alya comes in with Zeedan sitting on the sofa. Alya wants to know if Zeedan has been dumped. She then carries on pulling his leg about getting ready for his date and he just sits there distressed. He reports that he caught Rana flirting with another guy right in front of him. Now ALya is downcast as well.

Aidan and Eva are in the back room of the Rovers and are calming down after the fisticuffs. He tells Eva to sit tight and he goes to check on Johnny, who is in the bar telling Kate and Caz that he thought Billy was really going to thump him. Johnny wants to know what had got into Aidan or Pat would not have been holding him by the throat. Aidan says he was trying to calm Jason down who had been kicking off. Johnny tells Aidan that he should not get involved. Aidan points out that he got stuck in pretty quickly - Johnny responds that was to sort out the mess Aidan was in. Eileen, Pat, Todd and Jason are sat at another tables with Todd remarking about not wanting to meet Billy down a dark alley. Pat did not believe Billy was capable of it. Todd says that Jason needs to watch his temper which gets a half hearted acknowledgement. Todd also says that Jason owes Pat one and Jason agrees.

At the Bistro Nick cannot get out of "work" mode and he is drinking fizzy water as he sits with Carla who points out that he no longer works there. Carla wonders if she has offended him by having a drink - he says he will have one if she insists. She calms Nick down who is getting worked up. Carla thought they were going to have their first row! Carla loves him and wants to grow old with him, till death do them part. Nick jokes about in sickness and in health but as Carla observes they are both fit as fiddles. Nick does not disagree.

Audrey is doing Jenny's hair and the latter asks if it is a date Audrey is going on. Audrey denies that - just two friends meeting. Just a man and a woman in a pub enjoying a drink together - and no need to make fun of it. Any more than Jenny getting her hair done to sit down and watch a box set at home! Freddie arrives looking for Kylie. He has been at the Bank sorting out his wife's affairs. Apparently it was all very complicated. He offers Kylie a drink after work - and she asks if this is a date - leading to chuckles all round. Freddie says she can call it whatever she likes. David pulls a face and Kylie responds that as a married woman she will have to check with her husband. David says that of course she can gallivant off with her fancy man! Jenny is thinking of persuading RIta to go to the pictures. Audrey repeats that she is NOT going on a date. David expresses the view that Ken may not take kindly to there being four of them (Kylie, Freddie and Audrey with Ken) at this "date".

Over in the Rovers Sean is proud of the toughest vicar in town and Liz is wearing another amazing top! Liz says she is very grateful for Billy maintaining the peace earlier. Men are so difficult, stubborn, butting heads and rattling antlers. Sean points out that they are both male! Liz is advised by Sean to be very careful what she says next. She says they are "GOOD men". Billy reckons he could have handled it better and Sean thinks he is too modest. Liz has to offer Billy another free drink to show her appreciation.

Johnny and Pat are still staring at each other. Caz reckons if it kicks off she could be handy with her crutches! Aidan reckons avoiding the entire Grimshaw family for a while would make sense. It will calm down, although both Aidan and Johnny remain fairly jumpy.

At the Grimshaw table Todd observes there is a lot to be done at Tony's flat. A dozen unopened boxes. Pat suggests doing it next week. Jason is unsure and Eileen says that there is no rush. Jason tells them that he wants to be on his own. They let him go and hope he will be alright on his own. Todd does not think he will kick off again. Todd buys another round. Pat and Johnny resume the staring competition.

After the break we are still in the Rovers where in the light of how good Pat has been in the last few days Eileen tells Todd that he is moving in with them. Todd thinks it might be a bit fast and Pat tells him off for talking to his mother like that. Pat decides to go for a walk as he does not want any trouble and eyeing Johnny in the booth he departs. Johnny denies to his family and Caz that he was watching Pat who does not scare him. Rana wanders in. Aidan reckons that Johnny should apologise. Freddie could not name his wife's first pet so could not get details of his wife's savings accounts! He was well known to the bank staff so they found a way around the restrictions. Ken arrives and is not overjoyed to be joining Freddie and Kylie as well as Audrey. Freddie insists on buying a round. Rana leaves again.

Zeedan is getting an earful for breaking the agreement to meet Rana in the Rovers. Zeedan felt he had been made to look a fool in front of the doctor (talk about over-reaction). She does not like his jealousy so he tells her to get out and go away. Rana does not understand his reaction. Zeedan says he not like other guys. It is over. He opens the door and tells her to go. She apologises for being a friendly person, but Zeedan is adamant.

Back at the Rovers Freddie is getting a half for Ken who is telling Audrey that he was hoping to have a quiet drink with just her! So was Audrey but she took pity on the recently bereaved Freddie who needs a bit of company - a point Ken understands. Ken is all smiles as Freddie and Kylie return.

Sean tells Billy that he is proud of him, breaking up fights and helping the homeless. They hug and Billy leaves. Sean asks if he go early - but Liz turns him down.

Todd is trying to tell Eileen that she barely knows Pat and he is not an entirely savoury character. Eileen says she is always a blind impulsive woman who throws herself at the first man who smiles at her! Eileen reckons Pat has been very good support in the last few days and she is judging him on that. Todd says he does not trust him but Eileen is not for turning. Todd says she does not know Pat at all. Eileen says that if Todd does not like Pat then he will have to revert to being semi-detached member of the family. Silence descends.

At the gym Zeedan is giving a punch bag a right going over when Alya comes in, Rana has been crying on her shoulder. Zeedan remarks that ALya called her a game player and thought Rana would wrap him around her little finger - she is proud of him. She does not get too close as he is sweaty.

Eva is reporting on Tony's final meal - half eaten in the flat. They all announce their final meals - Johnny would have hotpot! As he goes Aidan reminds him to apologise to Pat.

On the dark Street Billy meets the homeless guy again. Billy tells him that money is not going to solve his problem - but the lad reckon Billy owed him. Billy says he cannot do it any more and needs to get home.

Jason is set on Maxeem's bench when Alya comes around the corner. She almost walks past and then turns and says she knows a lot of people will say something similar but if he wants to talk about losing a father then she knows exactly how he feels and is happy to talk to him, when he wants to talk. Jason remains silent and lets her go. Pat does sit down next to him and says he does not need to talk but is willing to listen.

At Victoria Court Carla thinks they are going to watch a slim but Nick is kitted up to go for a run. Carla thinks he has had a run already today. She is worried as she heard him on the phone but he denies it was anything important. He says he is trying to arrange something for the woman he loves without his fiancee asking too many questions. This makes Carla laugh. She asks if the two women are the same person. He confirms they are. She tells him to run like the wind, to the top of a mountain and to pluck her a star. And she tells him to be careful and not have an accident. They kiss and he runs off.

Jason and Pat are still sat sitting. Jason knows Tony was not there when he was growing up - but he was out there somewhere. And now he has gone. Eileen and Todd emerge from the Rovers in the background. Pat puts a comforting arm around Jason, which to Eileen proves that he is a good man. Pat says he will double check the yard and Eileen takes Jason home holding his hand.

Nick is running like a man possessed and he stops to look at the "Nick's Bistro" sign. Then runs towards David's front door.

At the bus stop Pat and Johnny's paths cross. Johnny asks if Pat is OK. He says he is sorry and got the wrong end of the stick. Johnny says no hard feelings and puts his hand out. Pat says you do not hit a man when his back is turned. They bicker over the rights and wrongs whilst Jenny who was approaching stops and waits behind a corner watching. Johnny wants to call it quits. Pat is not in forgiving mood and the ugly scene developing is broken by Jenny bouncing up and saying there are no cabs available. Johnny suggests to Pat they continue the discussion another day. Pat will hold him to that. Jenny suggests to Johnny they could go for a drink - but he is going indoors. Jenny will see him at work.

Cathy finds Alex propping up the Rovers' bar. It turns out that Nessa has lost her mind and her heart to a Scotsman and she is heading for the Highlands. So will Alex be leaving for Inverness? Cathy suggests that he comes and stays with Cathy and Roy for a while (has Cathy still got her own house and allotment?). Alex will buy them both large drinks.

Nick is telling David that he has rung the hospital and will see a consultant on Monday. But he has not told Carla as they would be unfair. David thinks she ought to know - but Nick sees no point in telling her about a probable false alarm. Nick loves her and he remembers how his problems broke his marriage to Leanne. If the news from the consultant is bad then Nick will call the wedding off. And they stand looking at each other.

Roll credits.

As I remarked last week Stuart Blackburn remains the credited Producer for this episode - but we must be close to the point at which this changes.

Roy is due back from his agreed absence in the near future and Carla leaves at the end of the month. And BGT is on so the schedules will soon be disrupted.

See you next week.
