2016

Wednesday 1 June

Sinead is sitting at the breakfast table, looking somewhat dejected. Chesney comes downstairs, he wonders if she's avoiding him, but she assures him that she isn't. He says he wouldn't blame her, he stopped her from modeling so they could spend the day together, and then went to work himself. He's not surprised she hit the bottle. She stammers that she was with Fiz and got carried away. Chesney doesn't mind, he just thinks it's not like her.

In the cafe, Cathy and Roy tell Anna and Fiz about their engagement. Anna then gets a text message from Gary reminding her about Izzy's hearing today. Just then the cafe phone rings and Roy answers it. "Hello Mother," he says.

Out in the Street, Norris is studying his roof with the aid of some binoculars. He tells Mary that it looks like the ridge tiles are going as well. Phelan comes over and says he and Jason would be happy to help out if he changes his mind. Norris looks down his nose and tells Pat that the building trade has enough rogue operators without hiring a suspected killer as well. As Pat moves away, Mary tells Norris not to cut his nose off to spite his face.

Jason, meanwhile, has arrived back in the Street. Pat goes over to where he's standing with Todd, and reminds him that the police can't touch him without hard evidence. He then says he has to go and pick some stuff up, and leaves. Todd then starts to ask Jason what he said to the police, but Jason sees Sarah across the road and runs over to her. He's convinced that David has murdered Callum and asks her why he did it. Sarah tries to push past him, telling him to leave her out of it. "I might go down for a murder I didn't do," shouts Jason, "do you really want that on your conscience?" Sarah tells him to leave her alone, and hurries away. Todd then tells Jason to calm down, the police may be watching his every move and it won't look good if they find he's been going round threatening people. "Keep a low profile and leave Sarah to me," he says.

Back in the cafe, Roy is only just finishing the phone call with his mother. He tells Cathy and Anna that she claims to have had another bad turn and wants him to go and look after her again. Anna thinks she's just swinging the lead but Cathy says that he must go.

In the factory, a very embarrassed Sinead goes into the office and tells Aidan that her machine has lost power. Then she goes on to apologise for what happened. He tells her to forget it, he has, and asks how things are with her and Chesney. She tells him they're ok now. Just then Eva comes in and stands behind her, arms folded, looking stern. Sinead then hurries back to her machine. "What was that all about?" asks Eva. Aidan mutters something about Sinead's machine. Eva thinks it looked like more than that, and insists he tells her all.

In the Kabin, Norris is wittering on to Mary about the tiles on his roof, as (such a coincidence!) a customer comes in. He overhears their conversation and chips in, introducing himself as Alistair Burton and saying he's in the building trade himself, mainly involved in the restoration of period houses. Norris asks what brings him to their area and he tells them that he's doing up an Edwardian summer house in the country and, as many of the houses round there still have the original Edwardian slates on the roofs, he's on the lookout for anyone wanting to sell theirs. He tells Norris he then buys them from the owner, if they're agreeable. The amount they get buys them a new roof, and they usually have some money left over in the bank. "So, if you know of anyone with the original slates to sell....." he says, and Norris's eyes light up!

Todd finds Sarah in the cafe and sits down with her. He apologises for Jason's behaviour, but can't think why David would have suggested it was him. Sarah looks sad, and distracted and Todd asks her what's wrong. "It's June 1st," she says, "the only day our son lived. He would have been twelve." Todd nods, and then Sarah gets very angry. "And all you can think about is seeking me out trying to find out if my brother is a killer!" she shouts, getting up from the table. He tries to stop her but she shouts at him to get out of her way and leaves the cafe.

Norris and the customer from the shop are outside looking at the slates on Norris's roof. He says he'll give him a good price. "How do I know I can trust you?" asks Norris. Alistair says he doesn't, so if he's in doubt he should stay out. Then he takes a phone call, saying it's an important client, and Norris can hear him talking about Bramwell Manor. When he's finished on the phone, he hands Norris a business card, telling him that if he changes his mind he should contact him.

Sarah stands in the Street, holding baby Harry, watching the forensic team go in and out of through the tent in front of Gail's bedroom. Billy comes along and starts to talk to her about lunch, but Sarah sees a young man walking along in the distance. She hands the baby over to Billy and rushes after him. She runs around the corner shouting, "Callum! Callum!" but there is no one there.

Billy hurries after Sarah, carrying the baby and pushing the pram. He asks her what's going on. "Did you see someone?" asks Sarah, "a guy?" Billy doesn't know what she's talking about, and Todd comes out and stands in the doorway of the florist, watching. Sarah puts the baby in the pram and hurries away, as Todd comes over. "Is everything all right?" he asks Billy. Billy says he's not sure, and walks away, puzzled.

In the Kabin, Norris is on the phone to Alistair and, in his best posh accent, says he'll look the figures over and give him a call back. He then tells Mary that he's been offered a very good price for his old slates. Mary, meanwhile, has been looking up Bramwell Manor on the internet, it seems it's a stately home, owned by the Duke of Gloucester. Norris is extremely impressed then, but Mary warns him that if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Fiz is in the Kabin, looking at the greetings cards, when Chesney comes in. They start to talk about Sinead, and how she was worse for wear. Chesney says he's surprised Fiz didn't stop her, but Fiz says Sinead was only with her for about an hour. Chesney is confused. "She said she was with you all evening," he says. Fiz then tries to backtrack, saying that maybe it was more than an hour. "Well was it or wasn't it?" asks Chesney. Fiz says she can't really remember, and hurries away.

Outside, Roy puts on his driving gloves and gets into his car. Then he sits there.

Pat and Jason are in the Kabin, and Pat tells Norris he's heard that he's thinking of hiring a roofer from outside the area. "Thank you, Mary," mutters Norris. Jason tells him it all sounds a bit dodgy. Phelan tells him to be careful, there are a lot of scammers out there. Norris tells him it takes one to know one, and as they leave he picks up the phone and looks at the business card.

Eva and Aidan are in the pub when Sinead and Chesney walk in. "Aye up, your number one fan," says Eva, nodding in their direction. Aidan tells her to give it a rest. Chesney looks round and sees that there is no where to sit, unless they join them, so he goes over and asks if they can sit down. "Are you not having a hair of the dog, Sinead?" asks Eva, adding that she heard that she was three sheets to the wind. "Where did you hear that?" asks Chesney. "Talk of the town, this one!" smirks Eva, as Sinead glances at Aidan.

Anna and Cathy are in the cafe when Roy comes back in and tells them he's decided that Anna was right, he cannot be held ransom to the whims of his mother, especially when there is nothing wrong with her, so he's decided to stay at home until he's needed for a really urgent matter. Anna goes off home, and Cathy remarks that Roy must have got a fair way there, he left six hours ago. He confesses that he never actually set off, he's been doing some shopping. Then he pulls out a small box and hands it to her. "I got you this," he says. She opens it to find a ring inside, and she's delighted. She gets him to put it on her, and she hugs him.

Billy is in the pub when Todd comes in and sits down with him. He asks if he thinks Sarah has been acting weird lately. Billy says that she has been through it a bit. Todd asks if Sarah has said anything about Jason. Billy says that he couldn't say, even if she had, confidentiality and all that. Todd asks if that means he couldn't tell the police either. Billy says that's where it gets tricky, he'd have to speak to his bishop. They talk some more about the situation, and Todd asks if Billy has any idea who might have killed Callum. Billy doesn't, but wonders if there was some sort of cruelty going on between him and Sarah. Then Todd suggests that maybe Callum was hurting Sarah and David walked in on them and stopped him. Billy looks shocked and says it's too much speculation and won't discuss it any more.

Chesney and Sinead are still sitting with Aidan and Eva. Aidan tries to make conversation by asking Chesney how the kebab business is going. "You have to watch your back these days," says Eva, "you never know what's going on behind it!" Chesney asks if he's missing something here, and eventually it all comes out. Eva tells him that Sinead was in Underworld last night, trying to get into Aidan's trousers. Aidan jumps up and hustles Eva out, saying it was nothing like that. When they've gone, Chesney gets annoyed and tells Sinead he knew she was lying but he didn't think it was that bad. Then he storms out of the pub.

Todd calls on Sarah, and finds that she's still looking extremely tense. He says he's worried about his brother, and then asks when was the last time she saw Callum. Sarah stares at him and then asks if he believes in ghosts. Todd is puzzled. "What's that got to do with it?" he asks. "What if some people do see the dead?" asks Sarah, seeming very nervous and tearful. Todd asks if she thinks she's seen a ghost. "Who was it, was it Callum?" he asks. Sarah starts shouting. "Callum! Callum! That's all anyone talks about!" Then she runs and opens the door, shouting at him to get out. She pushes him out and then slams the door and slides down the inside to the floor, where she sits, weeping loudly.

Friday 3 June

Sarah's on the balcony of Nick's flat in her dressing gown. Down below she sees Phelan walking along.

He's stopped by Yasmeen, who checks that he'll be working on her orangery today. Of course he will. As they continue on, Sharif asks Yasmeen if they should go away for a few days. She thinks that's an excellent idea.

Sarah goes back inside the flat where Bethany is being showered with gifts for her birthday. Sarah appears to have made a huge effort for her daughter's 16th and has put some money in a card. Bethany's getting lots of text messages from people who want to come to the party. She tells the family it's because everyone is interested in her now Callum's body's been found. I'm glad she explained that because otherwise I was going to point out that during the bullying storyline she was portrayed as a swotty type with no friends to help her face up to the bullies. Gail tells her there's to be no mention of Callum's name today. Gail's surprisingly relaxed for a woman who's discovered she's been sleeping on top of a rotting corpse for months.

Jason's not doing or saying a lot in the front room. Todd can't get through to him and he refuses to go to work to help Phelan face that scary Yasmeen woman. He'd rather stay slumped on the sofa.

Sinead's still trying to persuade Chesney that the drunken lunge at Aidan was an accident, a mistake, not something she ever wants to repeat. She tells him he always seems to put everyone else first. A startled Beth and Kirk hear all this from the stairs and when Chesney slams out of the front door, they race down and Beth confronts Sinead. "You snogged the boss?"

Steve's got his right arm in a sling as a result of some sort of barrel-moving accident and at breakfast he tells Michelle and Amy how difficult it is trying to do things with his left. Suddenly there's a specter at the table - Tracy's come in to try to persuade Amy to move back into No 1. Michelle tells her she can't just keep walking in. Tracy tells her she shouldn't keep leaving the back door unlocked then. Amy refuses to go: "You spoil everything."

Sarah sits burping a very cute baby, listening to Gail witter on about people thinking the family is cursed. Beth comes in with a package which was left at the house for her - a policeman's handed it over. She thinks it's probably from a boy at school but Sarah seems terrified and urges her not to open it. Bethany does, though, revealing a pendant.

Zeedan eats cereal on the sofa at lunchtime. It's his day off, which he thinks means lounging around doing not much. Yasmeen, however, thinks it means he's available to clean the house from top to bottom and feed the hens because Alya's out and she and Sharif are off to Newcastle for a few days to catch up with cousins. Yasmeen's not even finished telling him this and Zeedan's already sent Rana a text saying they have the house to themselves tonight and she should come round. Yasmeen gets a bit anxious because she can't hear any hammering noises from the direction of the proposed orangery. Maybe she should stay to keep an eye on things. Zeedan says he'll be there. "You're one of the things I need to keep an eye on," Yasmeen points out.

Rana's in the pub when she gets the text and goes off to buy some sexy lingerie. Amy's bored and doesn't like Steve's suggestion of helping her mother in the shop. She says Tracy always wrecks things. Michelle tells Amy the two of them can do something together later.

Norris watches anxiously as some blokes put ladders up to his roof in order to remove the original tiles he's sold to that nice Alistair.

Sharif and Yasmeen walk along the street, with Sharif talking about how the murder will make house prices drop in the street. They meet Phelan and Yasmeen almost accuses him of slacking on the job but even she can't criticise him for taking a lunch break. She tells him he'll have to work twice as hard if Jason's not there, too.

Mary has made tea and hands her Camilla mug to the posh tile buyer.

Todd goes home to find Jason still moping. Jason thinks he's going to prison but Todd says he won't let that happen. "All you've got to do is trust me." (Like that's worked so well in the past, eh?)

Bethany's gone bowling and Sarah's anxious because she's had no text message confirming Bethany's arrived. A text arrives then, but Sarah worries that "he" has Bethany's phone and has sent the message. She tells Gail she doesn't mean a specific "he" - just general weirdoes. Gail thinks Sarah should get some fresh air and go to get some more soft drinks for the party.

The slates are all off Norris's roof and on a truck. The new slates will be arriving in ten minutes so Alistair goes to the truck to get Norris's cash. Norris sees Pat nearby and asks him if he wants to eat his words. Then there's the roar of the truck departing with Norris's slates and Norris's money.

Sarah's nearby when a flash white souped-up car (just like Callum's old one) roars up and Gemma gets out of it. We can't see the driver and nor can Sarah and she demands to know who it was. Gemma says it was just some bloke she copped off with last night.

Steve listens at the door as Amy and Michelle bond over some wedding favours. Amy tells Michelle she liked it an home when Robert was there because her mum was always much nicer when he was around. Michelle explains that everyone makes mistakes and maybe Tracy really misses Robert. Amy says she does miss her mum. That's enough for Steve, who swings open the door and suggests Amy go back to Tracy's if she misses her. Bad move. Now Amy's furious that he was listening and feels as if she's been set up.

Kirk takes Chesney to the pub because that's what Beth's ordered him to do. Gemma's at the bar shoving snack food down her throat and Beth and Sinead are at a table. Chesney recognises he's been set up.

Norris is annoyed but Mary's even more annoyed that Alistair's gone off with her Camilla mug. She's had that since 2005. Phelan appears and promises he's not going to gloat. He agrees to put Norris's roof right. He'll cover it tonight and reslate tomorrow - all at mates' rates.

Rana arrives to see Zeedan and notices how clean the house is. It seems Yasmeen did it before she left rather than trust Zeedan to do it.

Sarah's been anxiously waiting for Bethany and rushes to greet her in the street. Bethany's really annoyed that Sarah's sent her a text every five minutes to check on her and now has waited for her in the street as if she was a little kid. Todd finds a weepy Sarah sitting on the steps of Victoria Court. Now he's worried about her as well as about Jason. She cries as she tells him she can't talk to anyone. It's too late for that. She says she thought she saw Callum. "But it can't be him because I saw him and he was, he was definitely dead." "You saw him die>" asks a puzzled Todd. Sarah hastily says that's not what she said. "Sarah, tell me what happened," Todd says.

Amy sits on the stairs and sends a "miss you" text to her mother. There's a knock on the door. It's Will. He asks for Michelle but Amy says she's busy and offers to take a message. He insists, so Amy lets him in to wait.

Sarah tells Todd that Callum won't go away. "He's out there all the time and he's trying to get me to say what happened because then I'll be punished." Todd tells her to tell him and promises he'll keep her secret. She says it's her fault Callum is dead and Todd takes this to mean only one thing. "You killed him?"

The end.

Good evening. A busy week this week as there was a visit to London, a play, a meal and lots of soap as we had some displacement. Timings become a bit odd over the next couple of weeks as the football takes over.

This is episode 8919 and I bring this courtesy of ITV and would remind you that the copyright remains with ITV Studios to whom many thanks. Writer tonight was Susan Oudot and the director was Peter Rose.

We open on the steps of the gym where Sarah is telling Todd that it was all her fault. She is close to final breakdown and Todd ends up thinking that she killed Callum.

In the back room of the Rovers Amy is giving Will the third degree - is he friends with Michelle? Friends with Steve? How does he know Michelle - she really is turning into Blanche and she knows information is key. He asks her to get Michelle who eventually comes into the room and reminds Amy she should not let strange men in by the back door (oddly I assume this is the same door used by the customers to access the smoking area). Amy is sent to put her pyjamas on - but it is far too early. Michelle is too busy to see Will and tells him he has to go - but they come across Sean in the hallway.

At Carla's flat Audrey and Gail are watching a bunch of 16 year olds' party. Bethany is not very keen on the "My Little Pony" paper cups and apparently Carla only ever had four glasses (and she kept them all full of wine all of the time). Gail eyes up one of the young lads - Bethany is not amused.

At the Rovers Gemma is at the bar with a drink when Jason arrives. He asks if she wants a drink but she goes off on one and tells him to go nowhere near her or talk to her. She then calls him a murderer. He tells her off for mourning that piece of lowlife - she responds that Callum is worth ten of Jason. The latter calls him a drug dealing bully who would sell his own mother down the river. Jason is not sorry that he is dead and calls him scum. Gemma flips and pours her drink over Jason. They continue to argue but Billy arrives and pulls Jason back and then removes him from the bar.

Todd is still trying to get the events out of Sarah - without achieving much progress. Just before she spills the beans David appears as he is wondering why she is not at her daughter's birthday party. Todd explains that they were talking about Billy (their son not the vicar) who only lived one day - 12 years ago. Sarah recovers slightly and heads off to the party with David.

Michelle emerges into the hallway and Sean from the bar and he wants to know what was going on earlier. She tells him that this is none of his business - Will wanted to talk but she is too busy. She tells him there is nothing to know - and that it does not concern Steve. He warns her not to throw away what she and Steve have. In a surprise shot we see Amy eavesdropping from the top of the stairs.

Zeedan and Rana are kissing on the sofa. She stands up and starts leading him towards the stairs. he stops her - she says it is what she wants. He tells her it is not what he wants and she knows that. He does not want sex before marriage. She had interpreted the empty house as the signal. Alya arrives and asks if is alright? Rana said she was going anyway. Alya is surprised. Rana says "see ya" and goes.

Sinead is telling Chesney she is so sorry. Chesney wants to know what happens the next time she is feeling jealous. She tells him to go and kiss someone, anyone to make them even. She does not really mean it of course - but he gets up and goes out and does not stop when she calls him back.

Michelle is deep in thought when Steve appears through the door - right arm in a large blue sling. He suggests they take Amy out for a pizza and talk to her calmly about moving back to Tracy's. And perhaps devise a mothering contract where Tracy agrees to stop being a rubbish mum who sets fire to blocks of flats. 'Chelle does not laugh. She has a rant about not sorting out this dysfunctional family. Amy arrives as Steve does and asks Michelle if they have rowed. She asks Michelle if she is going to dump her dad. And does she wish Will was her boyfriend? Michelle is stunned at these questions and she does not want Will as her boyfriend. Amy should not be asking questions like that and then Amy reveals she overheard Sean's concerns earlier. Amy gets told off for listening to private conversations. Michelle loves Steve and that is the end of it. (Not by the look on Amy's face it isn't).

Gemma is waving at a wasp in the back yard of the Rovers when Chesney comes around the corner (which makes me ask that if they are both there who is running the kebab shop?). According to a TV poll Chesney reveals that our favourite bug is the bumble bee (amazing chat up line that). Gemma prefers the ladybird. He says she looks a bit sad and she tells him he needs to practice his chat up lines as they are rubbish. He replies that Sinead kissed someone. And he knows it did not mean anything. Gemma says that everyone does stupid stuff. He responds that Sinead said he should kiss someone to make it even. But he does not want to kiss anyone else. Gemma calls him a gentleman and a scholar - although she is not sure how that last bit works. He is deffo a top bloke. Face it Ches - you are not the down and dirty type she adds. But if he ever wants to act the bad boy she is there for him. Now steady tiger - just a kiss! No tongues though. She purses her lips - but being a gentleman Ches leans forward and kisses her on the cheek. Gemma tells Ches that if he loves Sinead then he needs to show her that he means it, otherwise there is no point.

Todd is using Maxeem's bench when Billy arrives. Billy tells Todd that he has take Jason home and he could do with a sympathetic ear from his brother. Todd tells Billy about his discussion with Sarah. He asked if Sarah was covering for David - in confidence he tells Billy that Sarah was not covering for anyone - Todd now believes Sarah killed Callum. Billy is stunned (but of course is aware of Sarah's problems with Callum from months ago).

After the break we are back at the birthday party Audrey is recounting a war birthday with a grated potato and powered egg cake which was apparently delicious (recipe anyone?). Bethany's friends are making a mess but when David complains Gail and Audrey both tell him as he did far worse. Sarah is sat in a corner in deep despair. David will post her a mother of the year badge. Audrey says they need to get through this flamin' party (Beth is not charmed by this comment). Gail says that Sarah is also having to deal with Callum's body being buried under our house. David retorts that it is his house and the last thing he wanted was a body buried under it. (For clarity Beth's birthday is 4 June and Billy was born on 31/5 and died on 2/6 - so why plan her party for the day of his death?). David asks what Todd was really after before. She sticks to the story that they were discussing Billy. David does not believe here.

Zeedan is clearing the table. Alya wants to know if Zeedan has changed his mind - he wants to have sex - but he wants to wait. She knows she should not have slept with Jason - but she had no feelings for him whilst Zeedan does have feelings for Rana. Alya says that if Rana will not wait then maybe she is not the right one for him.

Chesney returns to a crying Sinead. He tells there is only one person he wants to kiss - and that of course is Sinead. He holds out a bunch of flowers and of course she finally cottons on. He admits to thinking about kissing someone else - and he knows she is sorry. From now on total honesty. She agrees and he tells her he loves her. And she loves him too. They kiss and hug.

At the Rovers Steve is leaning on the bar when Michelle emerges to apologise and admit she is a miserable cow and does not deserve Steve. He says that she is his miserable cow. She agrees they need to talk about Amy. Michelle agrees that Amy needs to go home and that a girl needs a mum. Amy appears around the corner with her ears burning. Steve tells her she needs to be with her mum - and Amy instantly asks if Michelle is moving out? Michelle says she is going to be living there. But she is not actually Amy's mum and we do not need to talk about it now. Amy turns away. (Actually Amy does want Michelle as her mum - well actually anyone who is not Tracy!). Steve wonders what is wrong with Amy and Michelle suggests hormones.

Todd and Billy are dissecting their discussions with Sarah in EIleen's lounge. Todd thought Billy had said Sarah was frightened of Callum; but Billy explains that he thought Callum had attacked, probably raped, Sarah. But now Billy thinks that perhaps she was trying to tell him that she had killed Callum. So now both of them think that Sarah might have done it - but before Billy can answer Jason bursts in. Todd tries to explain why he did not take Jason's call earlier. Jason carries on being angry. Todd explains he was with Sarah - but says no more. Jason goes and Billy remarks that they may have to say something if Jason is innocent.

Amy is on the stairs at the Rovers and stops Michelle as she wants to talk about her boyfriend Sam. Amy is not sure about going out with Sam and Michelle says she is young yet. Amy asks if it changes when you are older. Michelle tells her that she loves Steve, they are together and they will stay together. Amy is glad because she wants to stay there with them (wise girl). Amy has spotted that Steve does not know Will. She asks Michelle if Steve would like Will really? Amy is only bringing up Will because she wants to stay at the Rovers (she has not quite got blackmail yet - Michelle does not seem to grasp the hint). Amy then repeats that she wants to stay and then gets up and goes upstairs. Now Michelle has got it!

Norris (who really should listen to Mary) offers to buy good guy and all round hero Pat Phelan a drink. Pat turns him down saying he is having an early night. Pat wanders around the corner to find Bob skulking in a corner. He is identical to "Alastair" who removed the tiles earlier. Bob remarks that Pat has had a busy day selling that silly old fool back his own slates. Bob hands over a wad of cash. Bob suggests that Pat is being a little silly doing it on his own doorstep. Pat remarks that he has bigger fish to fry as far as the Street is concerned.

Rana enters into the house ahead of Zeedan. He found her phone down the side of the sofa. Zeedan wants to talk but Rana has nothing to say. He admits he wants her as she looks amazing and she wants him as well. To Zeedan his faith is more important than connecting with her she says. He says he cannot throw away everything in which he believes. Rana replies in that case he has to be prepared to throw "us" away instead. He calls it stupid and asks her not to go. She does not want to go - but they are different people with different ways of seeing things. Bye Zee.

Sarah is on Maxeem's bench. We see Todd and Billy emerge and the former tells the latter that Sarah could never kill anyone in cold blood. If she did she was the victim in some way. And Todd will not let Sarah take the rap. But of course that leaves Jason on the hook. Todd acknowledges Billy's comment - he is caught between a rock and a hard place. They are both staring at Sarah across the Street. Billy says Sarah must have been forced out of desperation to do what she did. Todd says that if it can be proven then she will get off. But stuffing a body down a manhole is unlikely to be evidence of self defense. But Todd cannot let his brother go down for something he did not do. Billy does not know what he can say to make it any easier. Billy tells Todd that he must do the right thing! They both watch Sarah stand up and walk away.

Roll credits.

Stuart Blackburn being credited as Producer. Kate Oates is now in place in real time and has indicated that the current stories will play out over the summer with her new lines coming during the Autumn. There has been some night filming in the last few days according to social media reports so presumably something major will happen in about 6 weeks or so from now.

Worth checking out on line are pictures from Catherine's (Eva) wedding.

Steve's sling - not damage done lifting a barrel as alleged in the script! Online reports mention falling off a scooter whilst playing with the children. His wife told him to do the cooking and cleaning one handed! But it explains why he disappeared almost immediately after he returned as he needed surgery to put it right!

See you next week.

Monday 6 June

Written by Ellen Taylor Directed by Gill Wilkinson

Amy wants chocolate spread for breakfast and the answer is no. Steve tries to persuade Amy to go back to her mother's for tea because Michelle is busy. Amy and Michelle exchange pointed looks and Michelle concedes that she can make time to fix Amy something for her tea. Steve tries to talk Amy into going home, Amy stoutly refuses so Michelle backs her up. Steve goes into the kitchen whereupon Amy, sounding very much like her mother, tells Michelle that she needs to get "him" off her back or she'll tell Steve about Will. Michelle is cowed.

Sarah is hungover after the birthday party. Kylie feeds her stomach remedy in the cafe and Bethany tells Sarah some of the embarrassing things Sarah did and said. Sarah looks pretty rough.

Todd and Jason are sitting at the breakfast table, both looking quiet. Eileen takes a photo of them because they aren't eating everything in sight. Jason goes to work because he needs the distraction. Billy comes through, having spent the night. Eileen offers him a brew and goes into the kitchen. Billy urges Todd to do the right thing and tell the police about Sarah's confession but Todd looks very conflicted. He knows he has to do something.

Gary has given Jake his breakfast while Izzy folds laundry. He's making plans to go to the court with Izzy and wonders if pleading not guilty is the right thing. Gary finds out she hasn't told her bosses that the court case is coming up. She promises to tell them today.

Eva greets Simon and Leanne who have returned from Portsmouth. Leanne wonders what she's missed. Er. Yes, Eva says she'll fill her in later. I hope she's got lots of time. Zeedan comes across and gives Leanne a hug and asks how they got on, telling them Yasmeen is bearing up as well (they wanted to be away on the actual anniversary of Kal's death, you may recall). Leanne asks how things are at the Bistro and how the wedding went. Zeedan realizes she doesn't know yet. Eva takes them upstairs, promising the full story later.

Billy accompanies Todd to the bus stop. He's on his way to the police. Billy thinks it's the right thing to do. Billy is also conflicted. God thinks truth is best but also wants the "afflicted" to be protected. Todd thinks protecting the afflicted in this case (Sarah) could mean his brother goes to jail for something he hasn't done. Sarah, Bethany and Kylie come out of the cafe at that point. Kylie sends Bethany to the bus just arriving but she's missed it, though Sarah notes Todd on the bus as it pulls away. Kylie chides Bethany and warns her not to skip doing her work in the library while Sarah watches the bus go by. She turns and waves weakly at Billy.

Amy comes into the pub. She's walked out of school and tells her father she's depressed which he doesn't think is very funny. She's full of attitude and notes he took time off when he was depressed so why can't she? She swipes some pop from behind the bar and goes to the back room, leaving Steve and Michelle floundering in the backwash of that attitude. Michelle tells Steve she'll deal with it and promises to be firm.

Eva's filled Leanne in on the wedding disaster and related gossip. Leanne reckons she can almost believe Robert and Carla's fling and definitely believes Tracy blackmailing folk but finds it hard to believe that Robert would go along with it and take the Bistro away from Nick. Eva says Robert didn't know about it. Leanne starts to get ready to go find Nick. Simon comes out of his room and, exhibiting a complete change of personality, offers to make lunch for them. He's been getting interested in cooking, he's smiling and totally pleasant. What happened? Leanne takes off to see Nick.

Michelle tells Amy she has to behave. She's not repentant but then comments that she hates men. Turns out Sam dumped her, assuming she would be as bad as her mother. He did it in front of everyone. Amy reckons she probably is just like her mother. Michelle doesn't exactly inspire confidence when she says that's not *quite* true. Amy accuses her and everyone else of lying, adding that she heard Michelle's conversation with Sean yesterday. Steve comes in to scold Amy but she tells him she's got a good reason for being cheeky but won't say what.

Billy comes to check on Sarah who brushes him off, saying she's just hungover. He thinks she might find the comfort and peace of church helpful and then hugs her, promising to be there for her. She's pleased. He leaves, rather awkwardly.

Steve insists Amy tell him what she's trying to say or else she needs to act her age. Michelle starts to say that Amy is just upset but Amy interrupts and says she promised not to say anything about Sam. Michelle glares and insists she wasn't going to reveal what their private conversation was about because *she* doesn't tell secrets. Amy mentions the name Will but Michelle lies that it's another boy in school, then leans close to Amy and hisses that she's doing a good impression of her mother right now. Amy flounces off and slams the door. Steve has no clue what's going on. Michelle lies again that Amy had an argument with some of the boys in class. Steve takes it that it's just teenage girl drama.

Todd has gone to the police and tells the female detective that Tony Stewart killed Callum.

After the break, he's being interviewed by the two detectives, telling them that Tony confessed the night it happened. He then describes how Tony told him he'd killed Callum and torched the car and strings out the story a little, inventing the whole conversation. The detective looks highly skeptical and comments how convenient this information is now that Jason is a suspect. Todd agrees he's willing to sign a statement and didn't come forward before because he's a coward.

Leanne has gone to see Nick who looks very casual and pale. Nick is feeling at rock bottom and doesn't think he's going to bounce back. Leanne wonders if he could buy back the business, thinking Robert is a reasonable man. Nick reckons Robert has what he always wanted and isn't going to give it up.

Johnny slips out of the Metcalfe residence and he seems to be holding a bottle. He hurries away down the road toward the factory. Sophie has taken a phone call from Sally who seems to be in London visiting Rosie. She walks across to Number 4, talking about blazers while Craig brings a couple of large boxes into the house. Sophie hangs up the phone and knocks on the door. She hears Tim and Craig inside but they don't answer the door straight away. When Tim does, he nips out and keeps the door closed behind him, not wanting to let her in. He offers to find the blazer Sally wants dry cleaned and looks a bit mystified when Sophie describes it as a summery one with a peplum. Of course she knew Tim wouldn't have a clue! She asks about seeing Craig inside. Tim lies that he's helping Craig with his practical science homework.

In the factory, Johnny is seen drinking from a brown bottle which he hides quickly when Izzy knocks on the door of the office. She has come in to tell him about the court case next week, for assaulting an officer. Johnny sighs and sits down, asking what happened. When told, he admits he's in a difficult position and ends up suspending her on full pay until the court case then her job will still be there when she's done. She thanks him profusely.

Craig has the windows of the conservatory covered in paper. Sophie tries to come in through the back but Tim stops her. She notes that she can smell beer but he brushes that off, saying they're preparing a surprise for Sally. They're making a beer cake, moist and distinctive. Sophie is dubious but as he's not letting her in, she can do no more.

Michelle finds Amy out in the back in the smoking area and apologizes for what she said. Amy is upset and doesn't want everyone to hate her. Michelle assures her nobody hates her and insists she loves Steve, too. She tells Amy, when questioned, that Will was a childhood boyfriend. She was upset when they had broken up and seeing him again stirred up old feelings. She tells Amy that Will understands that she loves Steve now and she has no feelings for Will. Still, Steve wouldn't be too happy to find out she was seeing her ex boyfriend while he was away. He'd be upset for no reason. They make up just as Steve comes outside and smiles though raises an eyebrow overhearing Amy and Michelle agreeing he doesn't have to know about Sam.

In the Bistro, Robert is advising customers on menu items when Nick and Leanne come in. Nick contradicts Robert's wine recommendations. They go to the bar. Leanne tries to find out why Robert went through with the sale. Nick is sarcastic about Robert taking over even if he didn't know about the blackmail. Robert is not willing to sell Nick back his share. He didn't do anything wrong but will think about it. Nick doesn't look like he believes it.

Eileen has fixed Jason a mug of hot Vimto, one of his childhood comfort things. Billy knocks on the door and comes in, looking for Todd who comes in behind him. Todd tells them he had to tell the police who really killed Callum. He apologizes to Jason for not telling before and tells them that it was Tony.

Michelle sets the table and tells Steve that Amy's staying on for her tea. They share a kiss and look like things are getting back to normal but peace is not to be. The door opens and Saskia and Will burst through. Saskia is spitting mad with Will looking kind of sheepish behind her, trying to explain but Saskia tells Steve that Michelle and Will were having an affair while she was planning their wedding. Michelle looks shocked and Steve looks puzzled.

Written by Simon Crowther and directed by Gill Wilkinson

Saskia is a woman scorned and she's going to make sure Steve knows all about what she thinks went on between Will and Michelle. Michelle's keen to set the record straight but telling Saskia that Will professed his undying love for her doesn't exactly go down well with Steve.

While this is going on Todd is trying to convince Eileen and Jason that Tony confessed to him that he murdered Callum. Billy can't believe what he's hearing.

Back at the Rovers the slanging match continues. Will and Saskia finally leave. Michelle sobs that she and Will never went all the way but this piece of information doesn't do anything to appease Steve. Michelle reminds him of what he did with Becky but, as far as Steve is concerned, this is different because they're married now and he's taking the moral high ground.

Back at Eileen's nobody's keen to believe Todd's story about Tony. Jason announces he's going out. While Billy sits in silence Eileen warns Todd this had better not be one of his stupid games because the truth will come out. And if the police think he's lying he'll be in big trouble.

Sarah, Kylie and David are back at home looking at the mess left behind following the police's investigation. Sarah wants to know what makes David so sure they're going to survive this.

In the cab office, Steve is taking marriage advice from Tim when Will appears through the door. He's come to tell Steve that Michelle was telling the truth when she said they never went to bed. He corrects himself and admits they did lie ON the bed but they didn't close the deal. Tim covers his ears – too much information. Steve is jumping up and down like a kangaroo – he'd wallop Will but for the fact his arm's in a sling. So Tim steps in and he and Will wrestle on the floor like two small boys in a playground while Steve shouts encouragement from the side lines.

Jason's propping up the bar in the Rovers and talking to Sean about Tony's so-called confession when Todd comes in. Todd has another go at convincing Jason he's telling the truth. He reminds Jason that he didn't see Tony for thirty years so he didn't really know what he was like. Jason snarls at him to shut up. They sit down with their drinks and Todd keeps going with his story. Meanwhile Billy comes in and overhears them talking. Jason is still trying to work out what really happened. He can't understand why Tony would have trusted Todd with his confession. He tells his brother that his dad may not have been perfect but he wouldn't have done something like this and he's going to prove it.

Michelle's moping over the lunch table when Sean comes through for a chat but everything he says only makes her feel worse. Maria joins them so Sean decides to leave her to it.

Outside in the street Billy sees Todd stop to talk to David. Todd tells David that Tony told him the truth the night that Callum disappeared and that he's been to talk to the police. David looks understandably surprised. Todd says he knows for a fact that his brother didn't do it and he thinks David also know he's innocent.

Phelan and Eileen are discussing the same subject. He wonders whether Todd could actually be telling the truth but Eileen points out that Todd doesn't tell the truth. She's sure Jason didn't do it so Phelan says that begs the question, who would she rather took the blame? Eileen tells him there's something going on that they don't know.

Back in the cab office Tim's feeling a bit fragile after his tussle with Will. He says he doesn't fancy going in the Rovers so asks Steve if he's heard of the Bucket and Sponge. He says it's the best pub in the area.

David gets home and demands to know from Sarah what she's told Todd. Sarah insists she hasn't said anything but she's getting upset so Kylie tells him to back off. He tells them about his encounter with Todd. Sarah thinks it's a good thing but how can it be, Kylie asks, since they know that Tony is innocent? David starts to go through the logic of how Tony could have done it and says he certainly would have had a good reason. But Kylie says the police aren't daft and they're going to think it's exactly what this looks like – a lie. David says right now it's the only thing they've got.

Steve's round at his new bessie mate Tim's, trying out his home brew. He's not sure he likes the idea – after all he owns a pub – but when he tastes how good it is, any reservations are soon forgotten.

Michelle also seems to have acquired a new best friend in Maria who is having a drink with her in the Rovers and listening to all her woes about Steve.

Nick is at another table with Leanne when Robert comes in with a proposition. He offers Nick the job of co-manager with Leanne. When she hears that this would involve her taking a cut in her pay, Leanne tells Robert she quits and she and Nick march out.

As Michelle continues to talk, Maria advises her that she's the victim, not Steve, and says she needs to be telling all this to him.

Back at Tim's Steve receives a text message from Michelle but he chooses to keep testing the beer rather than agree to her request to go home and talk. Tim tells him the Bucket and Sponge isn't going to sort out his problems and he gets Craig to call last orders. Tim and Steve leave and we see Craig sneak a couple of bottles under his jacket.

Round at Eileen's Billy confronts Todd about lying to the police. Billy thinks he needs to go and tell them the truth until Todd points out what this would entail – telling them that Sarah did it, Todd lied and then Billy kept his mouth shut until now. Billy starts to leave and Todd shouts after him that he'll deny everything. At that moment Sean comes home and picks up that all is not well. Todd goes upstairs and Sean asks Billy if he thinks he's telling the truth about Tony. He looks confused when Billy gives him short shrift and slams out of the house.

Steve arrives home, ready for a fight while all Michelle wants to do is to try and get him to understand her side of the story. But Steve's not about to forgive anything, and continues to take the moral high ground. Michelle sobs that Will was showering her with attention while she didn't know if Steve was ever coming back. She leaves the room crying that Steve's not the victim here, she is.

Wednesday 8 June

Billy calls round to apologise to Sean. He asks if they can go and have lunch later, just the two of them. Sean says he doesn't know, he'll text him later. Just then Jason arrives with the police, they want to ask Todd some questions.

Over in the back room of the pub, Michelle is looking miserable. Eva, who is sitting with the laptop open in front of her, remarks that at least she's not sleeping on the sofa. Michelle says she offered but Steve said there was no need. At that moment Steve comes in. "What are you doing, looking for men on there?" he asks. Michelle tells him there's no need for that. There's an awkward pause, then Eva gets up saying that she'll get in the shower before Aidan who takes ages, but Steve goes off moodily as Aidan comes into the room. "All this over one stupid mistake," says Michelle. "What now?" asks Aidan, but Michelle doesn't know. Steve won't even look at her, let alone talk to her.

The police are still questioning Todd. The detective wants to know why he didn't tell them about Tony immediately. Todd says he didn't want to be implicated. She suggests that maybe Tony was a father-figure to Todd as he doesn't see his own dad, and then suggests that maybe the three of them were in it together, they wanted revenge on Callum. "Are you serious?" asks Todd.

Jason and Eileen are in the cafe. She asks him if he's considered that Todd might not be lying. Jason gets angry and tells her she just doesn't want to believe that Todd is a liar. She protests that's not true, if anyone knows what he's capable off, it's her, and she knows what his dad was capable of too. Jason says that she never saw Tony for years, he spent every day with him. Eileen tells him that there are things about his dad he didn't know, such as thieving and fighting. Jason reckons that doesn't make him a murderer. Eileen tells Jason that Tony loved him, and when he said he would get Callum back, she believed him. "Are you now telling me you didn't?" she asks.

Steph and Andy come into the Bistro laughing and carrying a gas-filled balloon with 'Happy birthday' on it. They're surprised to see Zeedan behind the bar. He tells them that Robert is driving him nuts in the kitchen. Just then Robert comes out and snaps at him to get his backside back into the kitchen. "We're short staffed, remember?" Zeedan asks whose fault that is? Steph then chips in and points out that Andy is back from Brighton and it's his birthday. Robert just grunts and heads back into the kitchen. Zeedan tells Steph and Andy that the place is dry without Leanne, but Andy is sure she'll be back. "I doubt it," says Steph. Then Robert comes out of the kitchen again and snaps at them all to get back to work, telling Zeedan that the soup he's made is terrible. "Did you even taste it?" he asks. Zeedan points out that it's Ramadan. "Brilliant!" snaps Robert, "a chef that can't taste food!" but then he immediately apologises and says he was out of order. Zeedan says he's taking his break.

Steve is in the taxi office with Tim, still grumbling about Michelle. "All I can see when I look at her is that creep with his hands all over her," he says. Tim tells her that if he's going to get back with Michelle he has to get this stuff out of his head. "How though?" grunts Steve.

Todd sees Billy in the Street and tells him that the detective was picking holes in his story, but that Eileen seems to be starting to believe that Tony did it. If anyone can convince Jason, it's her. "And you think that's good news?" asks Billy. Todd says that the more people that think it was Tony, the better. "You are letting Jason believe that his father, who he is still grieving for, murdered someone," says Billy. Jason points out that he's trying to clear his brother's name. Todd says that they agreed, this is the only solution. "I didn't agree," says Billy, "I was railroaded!" He goes on to say that the longer this goes on, he's risking everything. "Right," says Todd, "what are you going to do?" He adds that if he tells the police he lied, that'll land Sarah right in the middle of it all. "Can you let that happen?" he asks. Billy retorts that now he's covering up a murder. "Stay away from me," he says, and walks on.

Sophie sees Leanne standing staring at the Bistro and asks if she's missing work. "Sort of," says Leanne. Sophie tells her she should make the most of being a lady of leisure. Leanne says it's hard to enjoy being jobless when you're skint.

Todd is standing outside the florist shop when he sees Billy's brother, Lee, heading off down the ginnel.

Beth gets home for lunch to find Craig, who seemed to have an upset tummy, still lying on the sofa, obviously suffering and starts to panic that he's seriously ill, when he finally confesses that he's hungover.

Sean and Billy are in the Bistro having lunch. Sean asks why Billy bit his head off, and he tells him it's just pressure of work. Sean seems to accept this.

Behind the bar, Steph tells Robert that if he keeps speaking to Zeedan the way he did earlier, Zeedan won't be there much longer.

Todd wanders down the ginnel and finds Lee lying on his back, unconscious, on some black bin bags, with what appears to be vomit around his mouth. "Stay with me mate," he says, pulling out his phone.

Back in the Bistro, Billy apologises again to Sean, who says that there's obviously something going on and he, in turn, should have been a bit more understanding. They're just about to order when Billy's phone rings, and Sean urges him to answer it. Of course it's Todd, so Billy jumps up from the table, saying, "I'm coming!" and rushes out, telling Sean it's work and he has to go.

Back at Kirk's house, Beth is very annoyed with Craig, and tells Kirk not to mollycoddle him. Craig says that if he'd known it would feel like this he would never have tried it. Beth demands to know exactly what it was that Craig has been drinking. Kirk protests that he's nearly 18, and she likes a drink. Beth doesn't want Craig to do the same stupid things she did, and Craig eventually blurts out that it was beer. Of course, then she wants to know where he got it from and Craig confesses it was Tim.

Eva and Aidan are in the pub when a very unhappy Eileen comes in. Eva asks if she really thinks that Tony could have killed Callum and Eileen says yes, she thinks he could. Jason has just come in, heard this, and turns round and goes out again.

Outside, Todd and Billy have managed to get a semi-conscious Lee out of the ginnel and into Billy's car. Todd goes round to the passenger door. "I'm coming with you," he says. "No way!" says Billy, but Todd asks who else will help him. "Sean?" he says, "he doesn't know Lee exists."

Steve goes back to the pub, where Eva tells him that he and Michelle need to talk. Eva says she's happy to mediate, but Aidan hurries her back to work. Steve tells Michelle that it's bad enough being made a fool of, without everyone else getting involved.

Beth marches out into the Street and sees Tim. She asks him who he thinks he is, pouring hooch down her Craig's neck. Tim looks blank and says that Craig asked for beer but he said no. "Oh, so he's a thief as well as a drunk?" says Beth, adding that it was Tim's home brew that Craig got drunk on so if Tim didn't give it to him he must've nicked it. Meanwhile, Sophie has come over. "Oh, so that's what you've been up to?" she says. Tim says it wasn't a secret. Beth threatens to tell Sally when she gets back at the weekend, so Sophie goes into the house and comes out with some bottles of beer in a bag. She offers them to Beth on the condition she doesn't tell Sally. Kirk is delighted, and Beth is grudgingly pleased, and goes off. Sophie then advises Tim to close his little brewery before Sally gets back.

Zeedan goes to see Leanne and tells her that Robert is banging about like a polar bear with PMS and begs her to go back. She thanks him for missing her, but says her Bistro days are over.

Michelle corners Steve in the living room and tells him they've got to talk it over. He says she wasn't so keen to talk when he first came back, and now he knows why – because she kissed him, wanted him, got on his bed. She hopes they can get over this, that he'll forgive her. He shouts that he doesn't want a wife he has to forgive, and then Amy comes in and asks them to stop shouting. "Why are you being so horrible to each other?" she asks. Steve tells her that he's her dad and he's not going anywhere, that's all she needs to know.

Billy and Todd arrive back in the Street and get out of the car. Billy thanks Todd for saving his brother, and they talk about families. Todd points out that's why he's doing what he's doing for Jason, although he does understand what all the Tony stuff must be doing to Billy. They hug, and Todd says that Billy is a good mate and doesn't want him to hate him. Billy says he doesn't hate him, but has to sort all this stuff out. As they pull apart we see Sean in the background, watching them. Billy says that it doesn't matter what he says or does, the ultimate justice will come from God.

Sunday 12 June

This is episode 8923. It was transmitted in the UK at 19:30 as an hour long episode, but the update is split into two just to prevent overloading you! It was written by Chris Fewtrell and it was directed by Gill Wilkinson. The copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Billy knocks on the Grimshaw front door, which is opened by Todd. Billy is between services and he wants to see Sean. Gone to work and he seemed a bit off Todd answers. Billy admits he has been neglectful recently. Todd asks if Lee is better. Billy says better - but he knew the money he was giving him was going straight into his arm. No easy options where brothers are concerned concurs Todd. Billy says everything is such a mess and despite what people think he has not got the answers! Todd says that actually Billy's boss is supposed to have the answers.

Tim and Craig are walking down the Street. The former wants the latter to help bottle the ale which has been brewed whilst Sally has been away. And then they need to get the conservatory cleared up before she gets back. Craig has to help as payback for what he was up to and that he should be glad he does not have an offender's tag on his leg.

Michelle is looking at flags but Steve does not want to decorate the pub to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday. Steve does not feel like putting up bunting at the moment as he has nothing to celebrate. Michelle denies the blame as they have all made mistakes. Steve reckons her actions were in a different league to a mistake. Michelle said she felt guilty. What was he doing floating on a lilo in Spain. This argument is conducted in front of Amy poor lass. Amy says she knew it - they are going to split up! She adds that it is bad enough coming from one broken home and now they are going to make it two. She storms out before they can talk to her. Steve insists on going to reassure Amy rather than talking to Michelle as she comes first at the moment more than ever. Michelle is not happy.

Sean is sweeping the pavement as Billy wanders up. Billy says that he understands why Sean is unhappy - but his job is very like being a doctor on call. Billy still refuses to tell Sean why he had to dash off from their date and he has to respect his parishioner's confidences. But Sean would like some respect too. Billy offers to get lunch after his next service, but Sean does not want to be stood up again. And then Sean tells Billy that he is dumped. Sean slams the Rovers door as he goes inside. Billy does not realise that Sean saw him with Todd.

Inside Sean locks the front door and Michelle asks what is bothering him. Sean says that once he meets a partner the countdown is to the eventual disappointment and heartache. Sean tells her that he has converted the fine upstanding vicar into a love rat. Michelle says that Billy would not cheat on Sean (well dear you should know). Michelle cannot believe that Sean saw him hugging or cuddling Todd. Which was it she asks - Sean is not sure it makes any difference. Michelle closes off by adding that sometimes there is smoke without a fire (this from a woman who recently cavorted on a strange man's bed). After all she knows that better than anyone. Michelle says he will have to talk to Billy and find out what is going on. Sean admits he has dumped Billy. Undump him and fast says Michelle. She sends him out for a couple of hours and says they will manage.

Leanne carrying two cups of Roy's finest sits down at a table where Nick has his head buried in his hands. He has been looking at the jobs vacant section of the paper (Excuse me do such things still exist - I thought it was all done on that internet webby thingie?). Leanne assures him there is nothing in the paper for people of their talents. He just wants him mind occupied at the moment. Leanne tells him to clear his head and move on (or pull his socks up). he has been looking at his phone not to play Angry Birds but at Carla's number - should he call or delete (oh please call and go). Leanne tells him to delete it. He admits he still loves her. Leanne tells him to focus on the future and instantly he perks up and invites her to lunch. She is intrigued.

Izzy is sitting tapping her cup when Gary and Jake return after half an hour. She did not fancy watching tv so had enjoyed the quiet. She wants to go out as it is a nice day. She wants some fresh air and a laugh. Jake is keen to go to the playground and they could take Jack (Kev's almost forgotten son) as well. Izzy knows that they need to make it up with Anna.

Billy emerges from the Kabin to find Sean sat on a car bonnet waiting for him. Sean says he is putting the relationship before his job. Billy says he cannot break the confidentiality - but Sean interrupts and tells Billy that he saw him with Todd, not a parishioner. Billy says it is not what Sean thinks. Billy can explain - but not now. He will as soon as he can get back from the service. Sean wants a one word answer - is there anything going on between Billy and Todd? Billy declines to answer and Sean therefore assumes he is guilty (bit like the treatment the police gave Cliff Richard). Sean tells Billy to go to his parishioners and walks away.

Back at the Rovers Michelle is talking to her bestest ever friend - the girl in whom she confides everything and who has been with her throughout all her troubles - Maria. No I did not realise they knew each other either!! Anyway according to Michelle Steve is merely bothered about having the moral high ground (no I think he wants to know that you love him, just like you want to know that he loves you). Michelle does not see how they can solve it until he talks to her. She says they have not been able to talk properly since Amy moved in. At this moment Steve carrying Rover (long time no see) walks in the door with Amy. Michelle says that Steve is hiding behind Amy - which both Steve and Amy over hear. Steve thinks Michelle means that she wants Amy to move out - which Michelle denies. Amy storms through the bar. Steve and Michelle argue again. Michelle makes it clear that she loves having Amy with them and will go and talk to her. Steve tells he to leave it as she has caused enough trouble.

Billy is thanking his parishioners for attending the service when Marion Logan, whom he does not know comes out of the church. She tells him her name is Marion and she has spent a lot of time praying and that her son died recently - not quite true - they found the body recently. He was murdered and it has been in the paper. Billy starts to catch on and Marion admits her son's name is Callum Logan. Billy admits to knowing about it. The body has been released and she would like him buried at this church please and would Billy be prepared to conduct the service?

Time for a break.

Marion admits that they "lost" Callum at about the age of 12 - he changed. Awkward age, wrong crowd - who knows? He never came back to them. It broke his dad's heart. She cries and then recovers. Anyway he is at peace now, she wishes she was. She wants to know what happened and who put him down that wretched hole. Billy is sure the police will solve it - but Marion is not. She says that the police think Callum got his just desserts. She will be in touch over the funeral arrangements (that should take 2 - 3 weeks based on my experience). She departs and Billy is now in even more anguish than before.

Todd finds Sean sitting on the sofa and asks why he is not at work. Sean is hardly talking to Todd and asks if Billy stayed long when he called earlier. Todd is surprised by Sean being so aggressive and is even more surprised when Sean says that adultery on a Sunday is a bit much for Billy. Sean reveals that he saw them canoodling the other night. Todd denies it but Sean is not having it. Sean says that Billy has run out on him to be with Todd. Todd finally gets around to putting Sean straight and that they had taken Lee to the hospital - you know Lee his brother. Sean knows nothing about a brother.

Izzy and Gary are at Kev's making peace with Anna. Izzy insists on apologising. She wants a fresh start if Anna will agree. Anna does not like what she did - but will not bear a grudge and is willing to give it a go. Gary is nudged by Izzy and he says he is willing to try and make it better. Kev acknowledges that there has finally been an outbreak of common sense. Jack and Jake want to go to the Red Rec so everyone is going.

Tracy finds Amy and Eccles (do dogs get to appear on Sunday evenings only? Is it in their contracts?) in the yard. Amy tells Tracy that Eccles loves her. Amy tells Tracy that she is not wanted at the Rovers. She also tells Tracy that Steve and Michelle are constantly arguing and Amy thinks she is to blame that they cannot talk properly because of what Michelle said. Tracy assures her that Amy can never be in the way anywhere - Amy says she was always in Tracy's way! Amy recalls Tracy palming her off on Aunty Emily (come back Emily you are missed) or being sent to her room! Amy's recall is perfect - if Rob or Robert were around she would get packed off. Tracy denies it. Amy reckons she has spent most of her life in her bedroom! Tracy entices her to return to her home where she is wanted. Tough - Amy still hates Tracy for what she did and she roughly pushes Tracy away when the latter tries to hug her! And what Michelle has said does not change that. Amy goes.

Along in the conservatory Craig and Tim are looking at the bottles of ale. Tim even has tasting notes - a summer ale with a hint of pepper! Craig notes that it is fizzier than the last lot - Tim merely says it is lively! Sophie appears and asserts that her mum will be pretty lively when she sees this mess, pointing at boxes and bottles. Tim knows she will be back much later and it will all be sorted by then. And anyway says Tim she will be happy because she has a council jolly tomorrow. She left a message this morning and Tim has to go with her. Apparently it is something to do with the Queen and Sally has to go. At this point a couple of bottles blow their corks and brown liquid gushes towards the ceiling. See - I said it was livelier says Tim as they mop up.

Nick unexpectedly leads Leanne into the Bistro. Robert is not pleased to see them. Nick says he has come to his local restaurant for a Sunday lunch - just being sensible. Robert tells them to enjoy the meal and oddly Nick tells Leanne table two! Robert tells Andy to keep an eye on them (that is his job as waiter - what else would he do?).

Billy arrives at Sean's and thanks him for a hearing. They agree that it is not deserved. Billy says he should have been straight from the start and Sean cannot pass the opportunity for observing that they would not have got far if Billy was straight! Billy gives Sean the innocent explanation for what he observed. Todd has told Sean everything already. Sean is disappointed that Billy could not be honest with him. Sean says he does not keep anything back - even if it is boring. Billy says it has been a nightmare - Sarah has been through such an ordeal. Sean asks how come Sarah is involved and Billy realises that Todd has not told Sean "everything".

Steve, arm still in a sling, is telling Michelle to move that crate. They start to argue when Tracy strides in on the warpath. She wants to know what has been said to Amy. We see Amy appear in the doorway behind Michelle who is denying saying anything. Tracy says she did say that Amy was not welcome. Tracy asks if Steve is happy standing behind the next to that callous mare (Michelle)? Steve says that no one can accuse him of being happy. Tracy suggests they keep their marital problems behind closed doors, instead of affecting Amy? Michelle tells Tracy that is rich coming from Tracy. Amy continues to listen. Tracy calls Michelle lucky to have Amy but too selfish to appreciate it. Michelle says she will talk to Amy. Tracy says over her dead body and Steve wants to know which dead body!

In the Bistro Nick is pretending to be Carla and knocking back the wine like there is no tomorrow. Nick tells Leanne that this side of the bar he can fill his boots. He makes a nasty comment about the food to the next door table. Nick is following Leanne's advice - and he plans to change Robert's life for the worse if he cannot change his own. He remarks on the wholesale price of the wine he is pouring and the £13 mark up (so it is probably £14 on the wine list). Apparently the table next to him has a bottle with an £18 mark up.

Sean is trying to get it straight - two secrets were kept. Bethany being bullied and Lee's existence. Sean checks there are no more secrets and that Billy is a real vicar. Billy agrees that not telling Sean about Lee was wrong. Billy says that the link to Sarah is complicated. So there is no point in Billy telling a bear of little brain like Sean then? Sean asks a hard question - why could Billy talk to Todd - but not to Sean?

Tracy is telling Steve she should not have allowed Amy to move in with them. Steve supports Amy - her choice to escape from the traveling circus of Tracy's life. Perhaps she wanted stability - Tracy observes that is unlikely in a pub with a bloke that's off his rocker and the latest barmaid dragged into his bed. Michelle rushes into the bar from behind to report that Amy has gone. She has packed her stuff and run away adds Michelle.

And that is the end of the first half. As someone famous said: "I'll be back."

Part 2

We are in the middle of the football (Euro 2016) displacement season at the moment and consequently there was no Corrie last Friday - instead we get one long episode on Sunday evening. Margaret has kindly delivered the first half and I am picking up from the second advert break.

This episode was written by Chris Fewtrell and directed by Gill Wilkinson. Stuart Blackburn remains the credited producer - I gather that there has been a change over on set, so the change will appear in a few weeks. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios to whom many thanks.

So after the break we resume with Steve in the ginnel looking for Amy. He shouts but there is no response. Michelle sees the bus and rushes to the bus stop where Amy is at the back of queue and Michelle tells her to stop. Amy tells her this is what Michelle wants. The driver asks if Amy is getting on or not. Amy says she is. Michelle says she is not. Amy tells Michelle that she is not her mother and cannot tell her what to do. [Poor Amy]. Michelle says she will either call Steve and Tracy or the police and stop the bus - either way Amy is going nowhere. She tells the driver to drive on. He does. Amy remains petulant, Michelle calls off the search.

At Eileen's Billy tells Sean that he does not want things to end like this. Sean says it has to if Billy cannot tell the truth. Billy wants to - but is bound by confidentiality for his flock. Sean is sick of the secrets and lies. Sean knows he has to be second to Billy's calling - but he will not play second fiddle to another man. Billy assures him that is not the case. Sean threatens to ask Sarah if Billy cannot tell him something. Billy says he will tell Sean, providing he does not tell anyone. He agrees.

At the Bistro Nick has had a lot to drink and with a langoustine in each hand he pretends to be a ventriloquist asking for a "gottle of gear". Andy thinks he might have had enough to drink.

Back at the bus stop Michelle is talking to Amy. She tells Amy that she and Steve love her and Steve loves Amy more than Michelle. Apparently Scarlet at school says her mum and dad are not very happy at the moment and are only staying together because of Scarlet. She asks Michelle if that is what they are doing for her - Michelle does not reply.

Nick is still playing with the langoustine (which apparently come on a lorry from Scotland). The langoustines and Nick are in agreement that if Andy gets them another beer they will button it. Leanne emerges from the toilet and Robert asks her to sort Nick out. "Your restaurant, your problem" she tells him. Robert is desperate but Leanne is not budging - if Robert does the right thing by Nick she will come back. He does not budge.

In the conservatory the bottles of beer are popping their corks and beer is shooting up into the sky. Tim admits to some cheeky shortcuts and is mopping the floor madly. Sophie arrives and ducks as another cork flies past. Tim is not worried as Sal is not due back until tonight. Sophie reveals that she has just arrived outside.

Sal is asking the cab driver to wait and meets Yasmeen. Sal is wearing a glorious new tailored suit white with large flowers in blue and red. a magnificent creation, with a fascinator atop her head. She is attending a special lunchtime meal for the Queen's 90th birthday and so has treated herself to a new outfit. (That fascinator looks identical to the one Audrey had the other day!). It starts at 3 and she is attending in place of the Chairman of Ways and Means. Bottles continue to explore and Craig is sent outside to delay her. He arrives outside and is lost for words but Yasmeen has the opportunity to reveal the orangery she is having constructed when there is another fusillade of popping corks and both Yasmeen and Sally hurry indoors. Craig does a runner and Sally cannot believe the state of her conservatory as Tim assures it is worse than it looks. Yasmeen observes it looks like a pool bar and Tim assures Sal he will soon have it cleaned up. She wants to know why Tim is not ready for the Patron's lunch. Tim says that it is tomorrow as her text message said when he read it this morning. Yes but she sent the text message yesterday! At length Sal tells him how important this event is and how she has spent a small fortune on the outfit and how she wants to make a splash. Tim assures her she will. He picks up a bucket of beer and another bottle explodes and he accidentally tips the entire bucket over Sally. She glares at him from under her sodden hair.

Billy has told Sean all about Bethany being bullied at school. Sarah needed guidance so asked for help via Todd - so as Billy had helped her in confidence he could not tell Sean. And ask Sean to keep the confidence - not even letting anything slip to Sarah. Sean does not understand why Billy lied about Lee. Something which Billy cannot explain. Sean insists on no more lies. Billy is looking at him anxiously.

Amy returns to the Rovers with Michelle and Amy apologises. Tracy loses not a moment in tearing into Steve and Michelle for being poor parents. Michelle is looking troubled.

Billy wanted to talk about Lee - but he was ashamed he could not find the answers. They walk along the Street in bright sunshine. Billy is worried about being seen as a gay vicar with a junkie brother. For people to believe they need certainties and he needs to be able to demonstrate those certainties. He regards himself as an abject failure who cannot command the respect of his parishioners and doubts that Sean can respect him either. Sean does respect him, but Billy rejects it saying that he is not worthy of it. He calls Sean a good man who has meant the world to him. Sean says he is not going anywhere. Billy says it is too late and Sean deserves so much better. Billy thinks they should call it quits and despite Sean's refusal Billy says it is too late to go back, it is an end and he walks away. Sean is heart broken.

After another break we are at the Red Rec with Kev, Anna, Gary, Izzy, Jake and Jack. Kev challenges young fit Gary to a race across the adventure playground as he was always good on the monkey bars. Gary reminds him that he has been running a gym and did the real thing whilst in the army. Gary gives Kev a 10 second handicap. The prize is an ice cream. Gary has to go first. Anna and Izzy have a chance for a chat and the latter asks Anna that if the worst happens tomorrow then can Anna help with Jake please? Anna reassures her that she will help. they go to watch the "race".

Nick is nursing a hangover and Leanne is making coffee. He asks if he made a fool of himself. He did! Nick cannot get over being fooled so easily or so often. Nick does not know how he can be so naive and gullible. Leanne tells him he is a terrific guy and she believes that. They hug.

Sophie and Tim are cleaning up the conservatory, Sally arrives in bathrobe and towel around her head. She was looking for to lunch; Tim observes there is some boiled ham in the fridge. She could not go to sit next to the Lady Mayoress reeking of ale. Tim observes that the Mayor does. Sally reveals he is now teetotal - Sophie says he should be after appearing on the news unable to say statistically right four times! Sal is annoyed at being humiliated in front of Yasmeen - who will tell the whole Street. She tells Tim to clear the place out. Once he has gone Sophie offers her mother some sage advice - Tim just got carried away - like her and this council business. Sally says that service to the community cannot be compared to home brewing but Sophie points out that one means a lot to Sally and the other means a lot to Tim. Sophie adds that Sally has been busy with the council and she should be glad Tim has a hobby to keep himself busy. Sal is, but she does not want it in the house. So Sophie suggests that they get a garden shed. Sal retorts that a dog house is all he should get. Sophie rethinks it and suggests a summer house which will be more impressive than an orangery! They both stare out the window. Sophie tells her to imagine a few climbers outside it - and no-one round here has got one!

At the Red Rec Kev is consuming the largest ice cream imaginable. He is also relishing his victory - Gary lost a trainer - but is all good humoured and Anna and Kev are happy for once. Izzy refuses to plead guilty - Gary tries to convince her that she would get a suspended sentence - but she is doing it for the future.

Billy is now with Todd at Eileen's and Billy explains the cover story and that it is all over between him and Sean. Billy reveals that he finished with Sean. Todd is sorry. Billy reveals that Todd had not helped but Billy admits that he has fallen for someone else and gives Todd a meaningful look. Todd calls him mad - Billy considers it inappropriate and ridiculous. Billy had had to be honest with Sean. Billy says Todd has no reason to feel the same way and Todd makes it clear that he does not want any part of it and hopes that Billy has not told Sean about his feelings. Billy says he has not and will not. Todd tells Billy to get out before Sean returns. Billy leaves but both are in a complete turmoil.

Steve finds Amy in the back room at the Rovers. She is reading "Little Women". Steve makes a joke and Amy laughs and then asks Steve to explain "High dudgeon". Steve says it means "Hacked off" - like Amy had been earlier. She apologises and Steve gives her a hug and tells her that it is between him and Michelle. Steve says things will get better now - Michelle knocks the door and asks Steve for a word. He goes out into the hallway - she has packed a bag. Steve says "So you are just going to walk out and on me and Amy". Michelle thinks they need some space. Steve asks if she is going to Will. Steve had a right to be upset and now he is delivering a kicking he feels she deserves. She does not want to be his punchbag. Michelle knows she cannot stay there. The fact that he asked if she was going to Will's proves she is right to go. Michelle says they cannot limp on the way they have been. Steve says they are not gong to be a couple - but Michelle wants to be with Steve - the way they used to be without all the digs. She has to go and she leaves. Steve gets the closing shot.

Roll credits

I think it would have been really nice for Sean and Billy to have been partners rolling on down the long years. I know it is rare on the Street but I had hoped it could work.

I am sure Steve and Michelle will make up - but there will be at least one pretty bad bump in the road. the storyline has been much disrupted by Steve's unplanned absence I suspect so it would not have been such a shock.

And does anyone believe the police will actually pin the blame on Tony?

See you next week.

Monday 13 June

Written by Simon Crowther Directed by Jo Johnson

This morning, Todd is playing solitaire on the table while Phelan, dressed in Eileen's robe is looking over his shoulder and talking about patience (another name for the card game) being a virtue. Jason comes downstairs while talking on the phone. Turns out there was a viewing for Tony's flat the night before and the police interrupted and went through it with a fine tooth comb, putting off the buyers. Todd tries to brush it off as just doing their job but Jason's really angry and reckons the Platts are still the ones involved. He doesn't believe Tony could possibly have done it. He accuses Todd of protecting the Platts. Phelan tries to calm Jason down and reckons the police will find out the truth in the end.

Michelle is talking to Maria in the cafe about storming out on Steve, something she regrets now. She's staying in Carla's flat. She takes a call from the removal people. Carla has arranged to have most of her stuff moved out except the bed which she's leaving in case she wants to rent the flat. (Which makes no sense to me. Leave the appliances, yes, but just the bed? Never mind) Michelle is going to have to box up the stuff, including the telly and the dishes! She can't just waltz back in since she's stormed out. It isn't done that way. Izzy is ready for her court and is still riled up. Anna scolds her and tries to make her realize she has to play it cool. Izzy agrees but she doesn't look very happy about it.

In the corner shop, Erica thinks Steve will take Michelle back but Steve is highly affronted because Michelle stormed out! He's determined not to have her back. Dev arrives and he's bought an expensive jacket and is now regretting it. But he's going to try it on again just in case. Steve gets ready to leave but Audrey comes in and asks about Michelle.

The factory girls are talking about Izzy's trial. Sean flops down. He wasn't able to get the day off. The girls aren't surprised since love sickness isn't really an illness, though he protests that it is. He's feeling very down that Billy has dumped him.

Gary is in the shop talking to Erica about Izzy when Dev comes out to show off his jacket again, still talking about possibly taking it back. Erica wants to go to the court hearing. Gary says Izzy is feeling nervous. They continue to discuss Izzy and her quick temper while Dev witters on about the jacket. Kevin comes in and Dev tries to garner his opinion. Kevin doesn't have one and leaves again. Erica scolds Dev for carrying on a conversation that wasn't relevant to the one that was of more importance.

Michelle is in the pub talking to Steve about Carla clearing out the flat. She's hoping to get a few things, like a plate, fork, knife and spoon? Carla is also leaving the sofa, by the way. Steve allows her to take the older stuff and when she comes back out to find out if she can take one or two more things, he says she can take some bed linen and a pillow as well. Maria is talking to Aidan about Michelle's predicament and asking if he knows anything. He doesn't. Maria reckons the split won't last. Aidan is barely listening.

Erica arrives at the court room and joins Anna and Gary. Anna is surprised to see her and is then appalled that Erica was the one that obtained the cannabis for Izzy who rolls up and into the dock just then.

In the salon, Audrey is chattering about Dev's wardrobe. Jason comes in and starts to give Kylie the third degree about covering for David who killed Callum. He's furious that his father's good name is being besmirched. Audrey ushers him out and his ranting about them all paying when the truth comes out hits home with Kylie.

The police officer is testifying about what happened, with Izzy interrupting. He continues and tells them he had a broken metatarsal in his foot after she rode over it.

In the factory, Kate is trying to get some people interested in a belly dancing class. Sean is distracted and isn't really in the mood for work. Alya suggests he try to win Billy back and he starts to think maybe he's given up too easily. He jumps up but they remind him he still has to finish his work day.

Steve is looking glum. Kevin is trying to convince him to take Michelle back. Kevin points out Michelle made a mistake and she'll not make it again. Maria comes in and Steve starts in on her, thinking she's there to put Michelle's case forward. That's not why she's there. Apparently Michelle has found a big spider and needs him to come sort it. Sounds like a ruse to me! Kevin offers to go but Maria tells him Michelle wants Steve to do it. Steve agrees to go over later. Jason is drinking at the bar and David strides in and tells Jason to lay off harassing his family, calling Tony a murdering scumbag in the process. Naturally, Jason takes exception and they start tussling. Kevin and Aidan pull them apart, David is ushered out the door and Jason is taken into the back room.

Izzy explains her condition and how the pain takes over her life. It's a degenerative condition that's going to get worse. She's in pain most of the time and doesn't sleep much but she hides it most of the time. She tells them she's a single parent, too.

Steve is urging Jason to trust the police. Jason insists Tony didn't do it but Steve suggests that Tony just might have been capable. Tony swore revenge for Jason's beating. Aidan comes in and says there's a police officer looking for Jason.

Izzy tells the court she had no choice and the drugs don't get her high, they make the pain manageable so she can take care of Jake and live her life, get some sleep. She tells them that on the night in question, she was desperate and would still rather go through all the legal problems than be in constant agony. The drugs are not recreational, they are essential.

The police are going through the builders' yard and taking out tools and things. They ask if there are any of Tony's tools in his possession. He tells them they should be searching at Number 8. Todd and David both take note of the police talking to Jason.

Dev comes across the road triumphantly in a different jacket, he'd exchanged the other one. Kevin looks up and says he preferred the first one. Doh.

The prosecution barrister is having her turn at Izzy, explaining that she lied about the dealer. Izzy takes umbrage, she lied so she could try to get away to Gary's court hearing. Her words and actions are twisted and Izzy gets more and more wound up, defiantly shouting that she doesn't regret what she did and would do it again. She'll do whatever it takes to get it again until the law is changed or they lock her up and throw away the key and God help her if they do. Anna and Gary hang their heads. The judge tries to calm things down. The solicitor has made her point.

Kylie is assuring David that she washed the wrench with hot soapy water and put it back in Tony's toolbag. She doesn't think they'll find any biological evidence. David advises her that they just have to keep smiling, they're almost there.

Jason is sitting in the living room with a bag of tools at his feet. He opens it but shuts it again when he hears Phelan come in. He tells Phelan that they are Tony's tools and he'd lied to the police when they asked. He now wonders if maybe Tony did do it. Phelan doesn't know if he did or he didn't but the truth could be in that bag.

Tvor

Written by Mark Burt and directed by Jo Johnson

Jason stares at Tony's bag of tools and asks Phelan what he should do. Phelan tells him he's always believed honesty is the best policy (ha!) and this could clear his dad's name. Jason looks thoughtful. He asks Phelan to look after the bag while he goes to check something out.

In the courtroom Izzy's lawyer gives her a talking to – she needs to calm down and just answer the questions but it's probably a bit late for that. Gary gives Izzy a reassuring wink.

We see Phelan "looking after" the toolbag. This involves covering it under a pile of breeze blocks and a tarpaulin.

Jason goes to the florist's to confront Todd. Nothing makes sense to him and he wants his brother to look him straight in the eye and tell him that he's telling the truth about Tony's confession. Todd's sticking to his story but they're interrupted by Jason's phone. It's Eileen to tell him that the police have come back.

Sarah is in the cafe with Billy, seeking his advice. She wants to know if she should go to Callum's funeral as she needs closure. Billy looks awkward. Given the circumstances, he tells her, he thinks this would be a terrible idea and advises her to look to the future rather than dwelling on the past.

Round at Eileen's she's giving the police a piece of her mind. This whole affair has nothing to do with her son she tells them but Phelan takes her out so that the police can talk to Jason.

Maria and Kate arrive at the gym where they've signed up for belly dancing classes. When the teacher turns up Maria can't help noticing that Kate looks more than a little interested in her.

Back in the courtroom, Izzy's lawyer is making his closing statement. He sounds very convincing as he tells them that any verdict other than not guilty would be as cruel and merciless as the condition that afflicts her daily life. Erica whispers that he nailed it but Gary, who's had more than his fair share of courtrooms, says they shouldn't get ahead of themselves.

Steve arrives at Carla's flat, armed with a jar and a tennis racquet, ready to deal with the spider. But he's put out when he discovers it was all a ploy by Michelle to get him to go round and talk to her.

The police are talking to Jason. They've read the doctor's report of Jason's injuries from when Callum attacked him. The policewoman observes that his dad can't have been too happy about it. She goes over the facts again, reminding Jason that Tony had a motive, access to the murder scene and the type of weapon that was used. Jason's ears prick up at this. He's told it was something blunt and heavy, the kind off thing a builder with a grudge would have to hand. Jason looks concerned as the policewoman tells him that now they'll go through all the tools they've collected.

Billy is still talking to Sarah as they walk down the street. She hurries off as Sean appears. He asks Billy if he's OK and says that a problem shared is a problem halved then suggests going for a drink. Billy makes an excuse so Sean asks about tomorrow. Billy keeps making excuses. Sean looks sad and says he knows he's the one who pushed Billy away. He begs for one more chance but Billy tells him he really needs to go. Meanwhile Todd has been watching all this from across the street.

We return to the courtroom where the judge gives his verdict. Although he has every sympathy with Izzy's plight he also notes that she appears to have shown no remorse for her actions, despite being given ample opportunity to do so and she's found guilty on both counts of possessing cannabis and assault. Sentencing is going to be adjourned. In the meantime she's being released on bail.

Sean bursts into the florist's - he needs Todd's help. He begs him to talk to Billy about taking him back. Todd reminds him that only last week he accused the two of them of having an affair. Sean is desperate, he needs Todd to do this for him as a mate. Todd advises that the worst thing Sean can do is put pressure on Billy and that he should back off.

The police are still talking to Jason. They want to know why Tony left in such a hurry. Jason tells them about Liz but the police describe a different version of what might have happened. One where a father was seeking revenge for a crime committed against his son … Jason still insists his father couldn't be guilty of murder but he's showing signs of doubt in his expression as the police leave and tell him they'll be in touch.

Kate and Maria are leaving the gym with the belly dancing teacher just as Caz arrives on her crutches. The girls are aching all over but they've clearly had fun. Caz looks more than a little put out, especially when she sees the attractive-looking teacher, not to mention the friendly way Maria is hugging Kate. As Kate and Caz walk off together, Kate tells Caz she can't live in a bubble any longer – they should both be allowed to have their own friends.

Steve and Michelle are finally talking and they seem to be making progress. That is until Steve says he thought Michelle left the other night out of spite, just to get back at him for staying in Spain. She can't believe he thinks she'd be so petty, the arguing resumes and Steve walks out.

Back at home, Gary and Anna listen to Izzy who's on the phone to her lawyer. She she's clearly in a positive frame of mind, despite the outcome of her court case. But Gary is furious and he tells Izzy that she lives in cloud cuckoo land and only hears what she wants to hear. He points out she could be going to prison and all because she couldn't keep her mouth shut.

Eileen and Phelan arrive home. He sends her off to the kitchen so he can have a quiet word with Jason. He tells him that the tools are hidden in a safe place and then points out to Jason that he's effectively withholding evidence which, in turn, makes Phelan an accessory. Jason promises he'd never grass him up. Phelan replies that the thought had never occurred to him but that this ups the ante. Jason says he owes him one. "One?" asks Phelan ….

Tuesday 14 June

Because of holidays and the schedules being messed around because of football matches, I have been dug out from the retirement home to report on the first part of tonight's double bill.

Sean is mulling over a bowl of soup and Billy and Todd walk in. Billy has come in to pick up some of his belongings that he had left behind. Sean insists on bringing the stuff through, while Billy and Todd have a brief discussion about the upcoming funeral. As Billy leaves he bumps into Martin and Kylie who happen to be passing. He wanted to make sure that Sarah wouldn't be coming to the funeral as she is a bit fragile. Next to 'appear' on the Street is Gemma, who cannot believe that Kylie won't be there either. Kylie explains it wouldn't be right. Gemma says she needs moral support, but Kylie suggests that she remembers 'the good times' and things will be fine.

In the cafe, Cathy is opening the post. There is a card from Nessa who says she will be away on the engagement party because she will be in Bali. Alex overhears the conversation and asks who is going to Bali and where it is. Cathy and Roy explain to him. Cathy thinks he would be upset, but he says he is happy where he is.

Back in the Street, David and Kylie walk off to be shouted at by one of Callum's former friends. He threatens them if they have anything to do with the death. Kylie thinks they ought to have to speak to Max again as Callum was his father. If he does want to go, then Kylie says she will have to take him.

Phelan brings Jason over a cup of tea at the workshop. Jason says he feels awful, and Phelan suggests he goes back to bed. Jason agrees saying that he can't do much work without his tools. Phelan says that Yasmeen's windows are due to arrive that afternoon. They could both do that.

Back at the cafe, Gemma is cradling a cup of tea and Alex tries to take it away. She says she hasn't finished with it and Alex apologies. He asks her if she is a Goth because she is dressed in black and white. Gemma explains she is going to a funeral.

Cathy confides in Mary that she thinks Alex is mixing with the wrong people. Mary says her mother said the same about her. She would have a fit if she knew she was belly dancing this evening. Mary explains that it is to achieve cardiovascular fitness and suggests that Cathy joins them, but she declines.

David queries with Sarah about whether she is going to Callum's funeral. He tells her to keep away, and Gail agrees with him. Bethany then comes in and asks her mum for help with revision. Sarah is in no mood to help, and suggests she asks someone else. Gail offers. Max comes down and Kylie asks him if he wants to go. He asks what happens and David intervenes by saying that you go to church, sing a few hymns and put a box in the ground. Max decides he doesn't want to go, but Kylie tries to persuade him otherwise. Max asks if he could say goodbye another way.

Tim is lounging in the garden. Sally comes out and wonders what he is doing. He says he is having a day off but researching new squeegees! Then she asks him to start building the summerhouse. He is reluctant to start, but as Yasmeen and family come out, she says in a loud voice, to thank him for building it in one day. Quietly she tells him to make sure it is built by the time she gets home from work, even if he has to engage some extra help. She tells him the instructions say that it should take two men three hours to complete.

Gail praises Bethany to Sarah, but Sarah is not interested. She reluctantly wishes her good luck in her school exams. As soon as Gail leaves the room, Sarah rings for a taxi to take her to the Church.

Max brings home a plant from school, obviously to commemorate his father. David queries whether he can plant it on the Red Rec without permission. Gail tells Max to go upstairs while she explains to David and Kylie that Sarah has gone. She doesn't know for certain where.

David storms into the flower shop and sees Todd. He explains that Sarah has gone to the funeral. He says "we" have got to do something. David is worried she may say something at the funeral. Todd says he will go and get her. (Presumably he just shuts the shop - no sign of Tracy!)

Cathy tells Roy that she doesn't like the look of Alex's friend Jordan. She thinks he is shifty. However, Roy leaps to his defense by saying that he is quite capable of making up his own decisions. Jordan suggests to Alex to do something but when Alex suggests he is working then Jordan suggests he pulls a 'sickie'.

At the church, Billy is laying out the order of service for the funeral on the pews. Marion. Callum's mother comes in and gives Billy something, and says she wants to thank him. Billy insists that there is no need to thank him. Then Billy sees Lee coming into the church and goes over to him.

Jason and Phelan are bringing the windows into the yard. Phelan suggests that Jason needs a "nice bit of skirt" to take his mind off things, but Jason disagrees. Phelan suggests that Jason relaxes in the yard and he will go to the merchants to get the rest of the stuff. Phelan asks for the bank card with the PIN number, but Jason refuses saying that he never gives out the PIN number. Jason says they will go together. Phelan gets a phone call, and walks out of hearing range of Jason and tells his mate that there are a lot of windows in the yard which could be stolen.

Over in the church, Lee explains to Billy that he discharged himself from hospital, as there are too many sick people there! Billy tells him to go, but Lee says he needs a few quid and he would never ask again. Billy says he can't give him any more money. Lee says he will just have to suffer on his own.

In the cafe, Cathy tells Alex that he must get back to work. She thinks he doesn't look too well, but he says he is okay. However, he then asks if he can have the afternoon off, she thinks he is glum because his mother is going away. She says he was okay in the morning and chatting to his friend. Alex says he puts on a front sometimes. She says as it has quietened down in the cafe, take the afternoon off and have some time to himself.

Tim has recruited Craig to help him in the garden. They are going to build the summerhouse. Craig asks for the instructions, and Tim calls over to Sharif and jokes about instructions!

Kylie helps Max to put up the plant on the Red Rec. They have a 'heart to heart' where Max confesses that he didn't like Callum. Kylie explains that he was his Dad, but Max says that David is his Dad. Then he asks whether Callum deserved to die, to which Kylie says that nobody deserves to die.

The coffin is brought into church. The police are also in attendance. Marion sobs. Billy starts the service and sees Sarah sitting down. He turns around and walks out.

That is my part of this one hour episode done. I will now go back to retirement at the home for aged writers !!!

Martin

Yet another strange double episode. I wonder if the writers tear their hair out when the normal broadcast schedule is disrupted like this Martin has kindly delivered the first half and I am picking up from the second advert break.

This episode, number 8926, was written by Ben Tagoe and directed by Jo Johnson. This update was written whilst England were playing Wales. Copyright remains with ITV Studios to whom many thanks.

So we join the action in church with everyone wondering where and why Billy has rushed out the back. Wales have scored, Bale inevitably. We should have played Forster, Hart let that one in. Todd arrives and sits down with Sarah. Sent by David, Todd wants to know what Sarah is doing. She needs to see Callum buried. Todd then realises Billy is missing. Sarah said he went out. Billy leaves Sarah and walks through to find Billy. The various hard men sitting around are threatening to go and get Billy.

Pat is detaining Jason in the Rovers saying that they only need to unload the van and move the windows to Yasmeen's. (Idiots - why did they not arrange delivery of the windows to the work site - that would be the normal arrangement as it is otherwise double handling). Pat says Jason has been stressed and needs to take life easier. He tells Jason to listen to the voice of wisdom - his. Jason expresses sympathy for Izzy's case yesterday but Pat points out that if you break the law then you have to face the music. Pat claims he has had to think about potential consequences himself recently. A cutaway shot shows some scallies grabbing the windows (which seem to be magically light) and putting them rapidly into a white van). Two jump into the passenger door and we hear a voice instructing the getaway driver to "Go!".

Todd finds Billy "upstairs" sitting in a corner on the floor. He tells Billy that there are people waiting. Billy responds by asking what kind of vicar am I? Burying a man, protecting his killer and with dead man's mother in the congregation. Todd points out that there is a dead man who needs a service and Billy needs to get on with it. Billy says he needs to do it or there will be a riot, he needs to focus. Todd gives him a talking to. Billy is crying but agrees.

Tim and Craig have of course constructed a dog's breakfast instead of a (tiny) summer house. Sharif is watching amused. He suggests they take it down and start again. Tim refuses. Vardy came on at half time as Hodgson panics and now he has scored, so it is 1-1. Tim implies that Sally will be very angry if not finished by the time she returns. Sharif suggests sometimes you go back to make progress - Tim does not understand and Craig decides it is time he departs as he has to cook tea - he promised. Craig reckons a few minor adjustments and Tim will be fine (it is a truly ramshackle construction - the first puff from a piggy would send it all over Weatherfield). Craig does a runner.

At the church Todd returns downstairs and rejoins Sarah, Billy returns to the lectern. He apologises for the delay and then commences with a description of Callum. He then launches into prayer and we have shots of the police, the sobbing mother and Gemma and of course of a very disturbed looking Sarah. The service continues.

Pat and Jason return to the yard to find the gate unlocked and open and that the windows have been removed. Jason is sure he locked the gate - well pretty sure (he didn't Pat took a phone call and Jason left it unlocked). Hodgson panics and takes off the excellent Lallana and brings on Marcus Rashford. Jason calls himself an idiot and Pat agrees. Pat talks him out of phoning the police as insurers will not pay up anyway and Jason does not report the loss. Pat tells him to look on the bright side - at least he has some cash (from Tony) to make good the loss. [Is this the second or third time Pat has made money out of Jason plus the cash he made out of Norris?].

Bethany is sat looking depressed in Roy's Rolls and Craig asks if he can join her and asks about her exams. She went but left half way through. Craig says that she cannot leave in the middle of exam. Bethany responds that her mother does not care - so why should she? Apparently Sarah has been really weird recently and with Callum's funeral today she has been even worse. Craig tries to pep her up - exams are important. Roy delivers Craig's order and he offers Bethany the chocolate as his mother always says it makes you feel better when you are fed up. Bethany is worried about the calories.

The funeral is finished and Todd rates it eight out of ten; Billy has never had a rating for a funeral before, he loses two points for punctuality. The police officers continue to watch the congregation as it waits to go to the graveside. Both Todd and Billy try to convince Sarah to return home. Billy says he will see her later. Injury time and Sturridge puts it in the back of the net off the keeper's foot. For the first time in the game we are leading. We see ne'er do well Lee hanging around in the woodlands watching what is happening as Billy gives Sarah a re-assuring hug. Callum's mum, Marion, thanks Billy for a lovely service. She also thanks Sarah for coming to the service. Marion says she realises she is not wanted because of the pain that Callum caused but she would like to see Harry sometimes. Todd says it is for discussion later and hurries Sarah away - she does not even say a word. Marion adds to Sarah's pain by pointing out that a part of Callum lives on in Harry and Max. Todd now frog marches Sarah away with Lee watching all of this.

After the break we are in the Metcalfe back garden. The building is lopsided the roof is not secure and Sally arrives home asking if this is some kind of joke. Tim jumps and says he can explain it. Apparently there were bits missing and the instructions were dodgy. Yasmeen has appeared to study a piece of art - the leaning shed of Weatherfield. Sally orders Tim inside.

Kate leads the girls out of the belly dancing session in the gym - Eva, Maria and Mary. Apparently Mary has been outstanding. Eva confuses Harlem and harem which is where Mary would star. We hear from Mary's mother as Mary recounts that the "Kids from Fame" were an advert for Satan himself in their house. Aunt Petunia was excommunicated for showing a bit too much leg during a rendition of "Relax"! Well she was sent to Coventry. Aunt Petunia had always been a reliable source of Woolies pic'n'mix! Maria and Kate have no idea what she is talking about. Eva has to get to work and Caz will be waiting for Kate in the Rovers. Caz can join the belly dancing massive when her ankle improves. Kate's face implies otherwise.

Yasmeen arrives at Eileen's to know if her windows have arrived. Technically they have responds Pat but there is a hitch. They have been nicked. Jason admits to failing to lock the yard. Yasmeen says he was careless. Pat says that it has been like chaperoning his grandad for the last few weeks looking meaningfully at Jason, whom he calls an airhead. Jason is not amused. Jason says he will order new windows at his expense. There will be a few days delay for which he apologises. Yasmeen says it is the fault of people with low morals. Yasmeen goes and Pat claims his comment was just a joke - but Jason points out that the customer needs to have confidence in him. No laughs at his expense and he heads off to the Rovers. Pat offers to buy a pint to apologise but Jason does not want it.

Alex returns with his mate, Jordan, and sees Gemma sitting at the bus stop so asks how the funeral went. She answers that it is not one of the best days of her life. He gets his phone out and shows Gemma a recording of him driving. Cathy appears behind him and as he is bragging that he is better than Lewis Hamilton she gets wind of what has been going on. He reckons he is an OK driver if he takes it nice and steady. Cathy coughs and Alex knows she has him bang to rights.

Eileen returns home and asks after Jason. This gives Pat the opportunity to tell her "his" story that Jason made it clear that he was not welcome. Windows nicked, Jason failed to lock up and Eileen does not understand why that is Pat's problem. Pat claims to have been really hurt. Eileen will point out a few things to Jason.

Sarah returns home safely and she says she found it strange to imagine him in that box and if he was good then he was not really dead. David doubts that he had spent much time in church before today! And Marion also said he was alive and living through Harry and Max. Sarah says she has to go and see Billy. Then she wanders towards the kitchen like a zombie and Todd confirms that she has been odd at the funeral and since. He adds that Marion wants to see Harry. And the police were there too. Sarah returns insisting she needs to speak to Billy when Bethany arrives and pushes her way out. Bethany wants to know if she is alright. Kylie calls her pre-occupied. Bethany lies to Gail saying the exam went well. David adds that now that Callum is buried perhaps they could all start getting back to normal.

Sean finds Billy stood at the Rovers bar. Billy is looking like death warmed up and Sean jokes that the funeral was hours ago. Billy asks him to stay as he could do with the company. Sean says that they are over but if Billy is in trouble then he is still there for him as a friend or whatever. Billy does not deserve that as he has been awful to Sean. Sean agrees but says that he still cares about Billy. Sean remarks that they were happy. Billy agrees. It was just simpler a few months ago. Sean asks that if things go back to normal perhaps they could try again, with a fresh start? Behind Sean we see Todd wander into the Rovers - he sees them talking and at the end of the scene he leaves again. Meanwhile Billy suggests that he and Sean go and talk at his place and Sean agrees and holds Billy's hand.

Eva needs to get the girlies a drink (Caz has joined the others). Maria could murder a glass of wine. Eva says they should be good and have a round of water. Mary notices that they are in a pub and not at a village well. Mary orders a dubonnet and lemonade. And so they all have alcohol. Mary asks if Caz will soon be able to join them belly dancing. Caz says they can count her in as it sounds like a right laugh. Maria asks Jason if he fancies some belly dancing but he will leave it thanks. Jason is not in the joking mood. Sophie comes in and see all the girls laughing together.

Cathy cannot believe that Alex has been driving and apparently it is not the first time. Alex has no licence - and he claims it was just a laugh. Cathy has been worried sick about him today after the lies he told earlier. Cathy agrees. She is tired of being on his case all the time. She offers a deal. Alex has to promise to no more illegal driving. And she will try to stop giving him a hard time. They shake hands in agreement. Jordan appears at the cafe door. Cathy tells him to leave because he is a bad influence on Alex. Alex then asks why Cathy keeps treating him like a kid and goes off upstairs.

Eileen finds Jason in a booth and says that Pat has told her what happened and it is all just a misunderstanding. Pat has been bending over backwards to help Jason recently. Eileen asks him to forget about today. Jason admits to over-reacting. Eileen will call Pat so that he can join them for a drink.

At one end of the bar the five girls are laughing and joking. At the other end Sophie is saying that Caz gets under her skin to Luke who defends Caz as not being that bad. He tells her to stay out the way if she annoys Sophie that much. But Sophie can't - she is always "there".

Sarah arrives looking for Billy - but he left a while ago with Sean. They are not at Billy's as Sarah has been there and she is desperate to see Billy. Eva tells Sarah to have a seat. Lee comes in and looks around the edge of the booth at Sarah. He asks if anyone is sitting opposite Sarah. Then he asks if Sarah minds if he joins her? With no answer he sits down. He asks if her name is Sarah (so he did overhear some of the earlier conversations). He tells her that he is Lee - Billy's brother. He claims that Billy has talked about her loads and it is nice to finally meet her. Sarah is mute throughout this one-sided conversation. They shake hands. He knows Billy has said he will look after Sarah - well he has also asked Lee to keep an eye on her as well.

Roll credits.

I found it a bit odd that the inevitable shouting match between Sally and Tim did not happen.

No sign of either Michelle or Steve.

Did Johnny and Jenny go to Devon with Carla?

No doubt the police will arrest someone else for murdering Callum before long!

See you next week - although with the current episode shuffling I am not entirely sure when that will be!

Sunday 19 June

Before I start with this update, I would like to mention that I am writing this under great suffering. I have a plaster on my right thumb, because of a broken thumbnail. I hope by the time you get to read this, it has healed. However, I just thought you would like to know what great extremes we go to, to get these reports to you!

Right on with the story.

David and Kylie are concerned about Sarah staring out of the window. She seems a bit jumpy they think. However, David is not too concerned because Callum has been buried and now everybody thinks Tony was responsible. Gail comes into the room and wonders what a lot of pictures are on the table for. Sarah says she is making a scrapbook for Harry.

Kylie says they are offering a special Sunday Lunch at the pub, 3 courses for £12 (approx US $17). She thinks it will make a change and they can take the kids.

Billy is sitting alone and reading a bible. Todd comes in and is surprised that he is there, being a Sunday. Billy explains that even vicars get a day off occasionally. Billy tells Todd that he is back together with Sean. Sean comes in and is very exuberant, saying that he cannot believe that Billy has a Sunday off. Sean says that he wants to spend the day with Billy but then remembers he is supposed to be working in the afternoon. He thinks he will pull a 'sickie' but Billy tells him not to and he should go into work. Billy said he will read him gossip from the Sunday papers.

A depressed Alex starts a shift in the cafe. He tells Cathy that he has texted Jordan but not heard back. Roy considers Cathy is fretting; he is 28.

Caz comes into the cafe and gives Maria a present, a book 'Oliver and the Lonely Bear'. She says Liam is going to love it.

Beth is in the Corner Shop being indecisive. Norris is getting frustrated, but she says she is having a 'duvet day', lying around with sweets, bottle of pop and a DVD. She persuades Norris to ask what DVD she is watching, and she tells him 'Dirty Grandpa', about a grandpa who is dirty !!! Norris says he hasn't seen it. Beth says it is a sweet film. Kirk comes in to inform her that he has just checked the calendar and it is the school reunion day at the Bistro. Beth doesn't think she can be bothered. Norris says if she hated school all those years ago, she is going to hate it now. However, Kirk manages to persuade her to go.

In the cafe Cathy tells Anna that she is sorry to hear about Izzy. Sophie asks if she is back home. Anna says she is, awaiting sentencing.

Sarah is in Dev's shop and Lee comes up from behind her. She jolts. Dev asks if she is okay, and she says she is and introduces Lee as Billy's brother. She says she wants to see Billy. Lee tells her that he is coming over to his place and offers to take her there. She hesitates at first, but agrees to go with him.

Beth and Kirk go into the Bistro. They are soon spotted by a guy who says Beth was the best kisser in year 9 ! She introduces Dom to Kirk and says he is the "luckiest man on earth" ! Beth asks him if another classmate, 'Lindsey the louse' is here, who fancied herself. He confirms that she is there, and Beth says she had better not come near her (I think it is pretty obvious what the storyline is going to be here!). He goes off to take a call on his mobile.

Sally thanks Phelan for putting together her summerhouse. Tim boasts to Yasmeen, and she says sarcastically she can't wait to see it. Sally thinks she is just jealous.

Anna and Cathy are on the bench in the Street chatting about their kids, Izzy, Garry and Alex. They conclude that bringing up kids is a minefield.

At the school reunion, Beth bumps into Lindsey. They insult each other! Beth believes Lindsey is on her own, but she says on the contrary, and introduces her husband Dom (oh what a surprise!).

Sarah goes into Lee's flat (where, how is he living?). She notes Billy is not there, but he says that he is on his way over. She says she needs to speak to him as she has a lot of questions for him. Lee asks her what are the questions, but she just says it was stuff they were talking about. He steals her mobile phone from her bag.

Cathy and Anna go back into the cafe. Cathy goes over an apologises to Alex. He wants to go out, but she makes him promise that he will be in back in time for his tea.

Over at the Rovers Eva congratulates Billy and Sean for getting back together again. Lee rings Billy on Sarah's mobile. He tells him that he has Sarah and he has two hours to get him £1000. Lee warns him not to call the police and nobody will get hurt. He rings off.

Lee goes back into the room with Sarah, and she spots he has her phone. He explains that he has run out of credit on his one. He refuses to give it back to her and locks the door. Sean notices Billy is visibly shaken and he tells Sean that Lee is in trouble, and is going off to see him. As he leaves the pub Todd comes in, and Billy pushes him back out and enlists his help.

Gemma is at the bus stop. Alex comes by and asks where she is going. She says to the Cemetery to say a proper goodbye to Callum. She says she's just missed a bus, and it is a Sunday Service (less buses around), so Alex tells her to wait there.

Beth, Kirk, Lindsey and Dom are sitting around a table drinking. Beth politely asks if they are still living around Weatherfield. Lindsey says she isn't, they live a few miles from Gatwick Airport which is convenient as she has to go abroad for work. She is big in stretch covers!! Lindsey and Beth continually have digs at each other.

Caz is outside the garage having a row with somebody on the phone. She is overheard by Luke.

Billy and Todd seem to have met up with David, Kylie and the kids. They are going to try and find Lee. Kylie takes the kids home but the others carry on. Billy says he doesn't know where Lee is. Billy thinks he is in one of three places and they decide to split up to try and find him. Max asks Kylie if Aunty Sarah will be okay. She assures him that she is.

Sally is walking down the street and gets a call from Paul, from the Council. He is coming round in about an hour. Sally sees Yasmeen working outside her house and can't wait to tell her that a Council Official and his wife are coming over. Sally says she is going to buy a new top from a nearby shop.

Sarah is getting quite concerned. She is unconvinced that Lee is Billy's brother. Sarah trying to find out the truth asks Lee if Billy has ever mentioned Callum Lee says he knows Callum, however he is less than convincing. She asks him if he is really dead. Lee tries to bluff it, and suggests Billy is with him now, and that they will both be over.

Poor Sarah, she is virtually at cracking point. Is she going to confess all to Billy? What will happen to Lee - is he really Billy's brother? Watch this space!

PS My thumb is still sore !!!!!!!!

We're back for the second part of Sunday's episode.

Gemma is still at the bus stop when Alex rocks up in Roy's Woody! I doubt very much he has permission so did he steal the keys without Roy seeing? Naughty boy! Off they go to the cemetery.

Sean is fretting in the pub about Billy running after Lee. Eva reckons he'll be ok. Luke joins Maria, Caz and Kate in a booth. He asks Caz how her ankle is and is told she's still in pain. Caz's phone rings and she isn't inclined to answer it until Kate insists. She takes it outside, watched by a suspicious Luke. He tells Kate he heard Caz threaten someone on the phone earlier. The other two women don't think it's anything much, Maria thinks Caz is soft "as marg", not aggressive at all. Hmm. Doesn't look as if Luke believes that and Kate looks a bit uncomfortable, too.

Outside, Yasmeen greets Tim and suggests he should christen his new shed with a party. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon. He thinks that's a champion idea. She encourages him. Big stick. Big pot!

At the reunion, Beth ends up having to tell Lindsay the truth, that she and Kirk work in a factory. She makes a not very nice remark about Kirk's low level of intelligence which upsets him and he heads for the toilet so he doesn't hear Beth tell Lindsay that she loves Kirk to the bone and he's a wonderful man. She had Lindsay pegged, too. Beth and Kirk are indeed happy and I doubt very much if Lindsay and Dom are. Steph congratulates Beth on her style.

The lads are chugging ale with Tim. Surprisingly, Ken Barlow is one of them! We've got Freddie, Kevin, Dev, Tim and Ken, quite a motley mix. Ken is even chugging it back straight out of the bottle like the others. Weird. Yasmeen calls over the fence to see how things are going. Tim hurries over and apologizes for inviting her earlier, he'd forgotten it was Ramadan. Not to worry, Yasmeen offers them some spare deck chairs for their comfort. She even urges them to turn up the music. Freddie expresses an admiration for Yasmeen while she's inside and the others tease him. She brings out the folding chairs, followed by Sharif who knows she's up to something.

Sarah is starting to rave about Callum, how clever he is for letting everyone think he was dead. Lee is confused and I think, starting to realize things have got out of control. He paces back and forth as she's ranting and then he tells her she's got to do what he says or he'll call Callum. She glares at him and the phone he's trying to pass her to make that call and then grabs it and fires the phone against the wall, screaming. Lee grabs her from behind around the waist, just like Callum did on *that night* and she completely freaks out. She's struggling, he's not letting go, they fall to the ground with him holding her down. She's crying and hollering Kylie's name. It's just like a rerun for her. He gets off her, leaving her doubled over crying on the ground.

At the cemetery, Bethany is talking to Callum's grave, now covered in flowers. She's remember the good times but Alex is starting to realize he should be home for his tea and getting worried about being late. She gets irritated with him for interrupting her, then says her goodbyes and wants to go home.

Sarah tells Lee she has to go, she can't see Callum. He's anxious that they wait for Billy. She tries to leave and he fights her again. The noise of the fight and her screaming alerts David out in the hallway that he's in the right place. He bursts in and hauls Lee off his sister. As he leads Sarah off, Lee is telling them that Sarah's off her head. She proves it by gasping to David that Callum's not dead and is on his way over so they have to get away right now. He looks at her, horrified.

After the break, she's explaining that she never saw David hide the body and the body they found was too decomposed for proper identification. David is trying to persuade her but she's rattling on. He can't and Lee even admits he only said it to wind her up. Billy and Todd arrive and Todd is shocked when Sarah tells him her "news". It's very clear she's in a very bad state. Todd and David lead her out while Billy and Lee have it out. Billy shouts that he never wants to see Lee again. Lee throws God in Billy's face but Billy admits he's only human, not perfect and Lee is making things too difficult for him. He wants to love him but ...Lee insists he doesn't want Billy's love and throws his brother out. The brothers are on opposite sides of the door, in a state, the pair of them. Billy then turns tearfully and leaves the building.

Cathy is now worried again because she thought Alex would be back by now. Roy suggests it's a bit early for tea and she can't really keep that close an eye on Alex who walks in just then, out of breath. He doesn't say where he's been but wants to go for a shower. When they have their backs turned, while Roy mentions retrieving something from the boot of the car later, Alex slips the keys back in a drawer behind them. That answers the question of from where he nicked the keys.

Luke and Maria comes out of the corner shop. She's wittering on about a client but he's not really paying attention, his mind on the mystery of Caz and her accident. He goes over what he heard. Caz wanted someone to change their story. Maria won't hear anything against Caz who bought Liam a rare book. She doesn't think Caz is a compulsive liar or anything. He isn't so sure but he's putting the matter to rest for now.

David arrives home with Sarah and sends her upstairs. He doesn't tell Gail where they were and pretends they've had a row. He asks Gail if she'd vacate the premises so they can sort things out. Gail admits she's been worried about Sarah. David assures her that he'll do his best to help. She hopes he knows what he's doing and agrees to go. Gail leaves and Sarah comes downstairs. David insists that Callum is dead. Lee is a junkie and isn't reliable. He calmly tells her that everyone is convinced that Tony killed Callum. She starts to get agitated because she didn't see what he did with the body. David insists he has no reason to lie, no reason to make up that he buried the body under their mother's bedroom but even though she can't explain why he'd say that, she's utterly convinced. A real powerhouse performance by Tina O'Brien tonight!

Caz is apparently still on the phone. Eva joins Kate who doesn't think anything's wrong. Caz arrives back just behind Gail who comes in. She makes excuses that she had taken another call from a long winded friend. She tells Kate everything was ok.

Back at Number8, David has filled Kylie in on Sarah's delusions. Kylie is really worried and wants to know the whole story. David tell her that Sarah was at Lee's. When she asks if Sarah is all right, he comments when was the last time she was all right? Kylie can't get her head around it all and David is getting genuinely upset at the state his sister's in. He feels like he's lost her. They can't tell her anything because she just won't believe it. He worries she's going mad.

Phelan finds a glum Kirk standing on the street. Kirk then sits on the bench and Norris comes past from the cafe. He tells Norris that the reunion didn't go all that well. Norris isn't surprised. These things never do. He notices Kirk is upset about something. Kirk brushes it off and Norris walks on but we can tell Kirk is very preoccupied.

In the pub, Gail admits to Sean that kids are a worry. Billy and Todd come in, Todd still trying to calm Billy and make him feel less guilty about how his brother has turned out. Todd urges him to take a deep breath and put a smile on his face for Sean, telling him he's a good man and this is not his fault. They approach the bar as Sean comes back with Gail's crisps. Billy tells Sean things didn't go well but will tell him later, admitting they had words. Sean hugs Billy while Todd looks on. Is he starting to have reciprocal feelings for Billy after all?

Sally has returned from the shops just as her council friends are getting out of their car. She hurries across the road and quickly changes into the new jacket she's bought. She greets them, and when complemented on her top, pretends she's had it for years. She ushers them inside but can hear the music floating through the house. In the back, she finds Yasmeen joking with Freddie over the fence and the men with beer. They are introduced to Paul and Helena from the council. They are all a bit tipsy and make a joke, handing the newly arrived couple a beer each. Sally apologizes for Tim, pretending the men are charity cases but Paul and Helena both try the beer and pronounce it gorgeous! Sally changes her tune immediately and says she's not a party animal. But Paul and Helena were in their day, bragging about all the clubs they used to go to. Sally tries to backtrack and pretends she wasn't that much into the clubs (though she was. I remember when she and Kevin were first dating!) Dev offers them a seat. Yasmeen is dismayed that Sally has recovered and it wasn't the disaster she'd hoped it would be. she goes back inside with a sharp word at Sharif.

Roy finds his car parked in front of the cafe, crookedly. He retrieves what he needed from the trunk. Sophie comes along and comments on the bad parking job, something that's mystifying Roy.

Sarah is staring at the telly, tearfully, but not really watching. Kylie recommends they take her to a doctor. David wants what's best for her but worries that she'd end up telling the secret and stitch them all up. Kylie insists that Sarah is ill but David worries.

Thursday 23 June

Thanks to football continuing to play havoc with the tv schedules, this week saw a gap of several days followed by a double Thursday night episode. My secret suspicion is that it's all part of a ploy to keep the updaters on their toes! However, be that as it may, we seem to be on top of things and so, without further ado, I bring you the first half of this hour long episode:

Written by Ellen Taylor and directed by Audrey Cooke

Kylie and David come downstairs to find Sarah frantically writing a list of things to do. She's in a complete state, convinced that the house isn't secure. She announces she's going out and instructs Kylie and David to lock all the doors and look after the baby until she gets back. Kylie tells David Sarah's lost the plot and she needs proper help.

Round at the builder's yard it's business as usual as far as Phelan's concerned but Jason can't concentrate on anything. Phelan promises that Tony's tools will stay hidden as long as he wants them to be.

Meanwhile, Norris is tucking into his breakfast. "I say, look at that!" he declares as he dips a soldier into a perfect boiled egg. But there's nobody with him to share the moment and his sense of loneliness is palpable.

Back at Platt Towers David is about to go and look for Sarah. His plan is to talk to her but Kylie insists they have to do more than that and they need to talk to Gail at the very least. Gail comes downstairs but David says nothing other than confirming that he and Sarah have made up with each other and he walks out as Bethany arrives. Bethany asks where her mum is and Kylie tells her she's not very well. Gail hopes she hasn't got her tickly cough. Kylie explains it's a lot more than that – Sarah has lost the plot.

In the cafe, Cathy's discussing having highlights in her hair, Robert's buying a custard slice and Kirk's moping over his breakfast. Meanwhile Roy is confused – he's received a letter with a speeding ticket. Cathy's sure it must be a mistake but Roy says it has his registration number on. As they're looking at the letter Alex comes in and Roy looks at him in concern as the penny drops.

Outside in the street Robert catches up with Leanne. He's desperate for her to come back and work at the Bistro and offers her a 25% pay rise. She doesn't want to know so he increases it to 30%. But even at that price she's still not interested.

Sarah turns up at the builder's yard, looking for Jason. She's wearing a hoodie and looking crazier by the minute. Jason's not there so Phelan asks if he can help. She urgently needs number 8 securing she tells him – locks changing and windows made safe. In fact, she says, he could board them up. Sarah hands over £100 and asks if he can come now. Phelan agrees to do it for £200 just as David arrives. David explains Sarah's been a bit stressed and Phelan replies they were just chatting. He catches Sarah's eye as David leads her away.

Beth arrives at the cafe looking for Kirk but, despite all her attempts to say sorry, he's still refusing to talk to her and he walks out.

Roy is clutching his letter. He turns to Alex and asks him if he's been driving his car. Alex replies why would he, since he's not allowed to drive. Roy apologises for asking but Alex looks very guilty.

We return to number 8 where Kylie is explaining that Sarah needs proper medical help. Gail and Bethany are convinced it's no more than the baby blues but then David and Sarah arrive back. After Sarah has taken Harry upstairs David asks Kylie what she's said. She tells him that the others need to know the truth. He tries to dismiss it but Gail says there's something they're not telling her and she needs to know what.

Billy arrives at the florist's to talk to Todd. He tells him that Lee's disappeared. Now that his anger has died down he wants to do something. Todd tells him you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. He says Billy's done his best so there should be no more of this self-hating-vicar stuff. Billy asks after Sarah then says he'll try and call in to see her after his church council meeting. He'll try and explain about Lee and maybe undo some of the damage he's done.

Over in Underworld Kirk is still not talking to Beth. The girls ask her what's being going on so she explains what happened at the reunion and how Kirk still won't accept her apology. Alya says she needs to try again as they're a solid couple.

Kylie's trying to get Gail and Bethany to understand that Sarah's really sick. She tells them Sarah still thinks Callum's alive and he's coming to get them. There's only one thing for it, Gail decides – she'll have to go and tell Nick. Her logic is that he's got mental problems so he'll know what to do.

In the Kabin Jason's trying to put up a shelf for Norris but his drilling's upsetting Norris who's worried it'll put off the customers. Norris notices the shelf's not straight and claims to have eyes like a spirit level. "And a tongue like a rasp," quips Rita.

Nick and Audrey have joined the discussion about Sarah. Bethany refuses to believe her mother's ill and Audrey puts it down to the baby blues.

Meanwhile Phelan's putting the finishing touches to the new door locks at number 8 but it's not enough for Sarah who wants the windows boarding up and a chain on the door. Todd comes along and asks what's going on. Sarah tells him Callum's coming and Phelan's ears prick up. Todd tries to talk some sense into Sarah but she doesn't want to know and warns him that Callum's coming after him too. Sarah disappears inside the house and Todd calls David, telling him to come home.

Simon comes home from school with a letter about a football camp trip. Leanne promised he could go if he saw a counselor and started to behave. Simon's kept his side of the bargain. The only problem is it cost £500 which Leanne doesn't have. She promises to try and sort something out and a delighted Simon gives her a hug.

In the factory Beth's still trying to say sorry to Kirk but he doesn't want to know. Fiz suggests Beth should try a more physical approach by showing Kirk how sorry she is in the bedroom.

Cathy arrives at the cafe trying to show off her new hairdo but Roy's far too busy on the phone trying to sort out the speeding ticket to notice. Alex listens in the background as Roy tries to explain it was a mistake since he wasn't driving the car at the time it happened. He's advised to take it up with the police. Cathy looks panic stricken as Roy starts to dial their number. "It was me!" calls out Alex. Cathy persuades Roy to hang up before telling Alex to explain himself.

Back at the Platt family conference everyone except Bethany has accepted that Sarah is ill. David's phone rings. He answers it and then announces they all need to go home. Now.

Alex is trying to explain his behaviour to Cathy and Roy. Roy tells him his reason for taking the car is no excuse and he reels off all the offences Alex committed. Cathy lays down the law and tells Alex he can forget about having driving lessons. But Roy isn't impressed – he hardly deems it sufficient punishment for breaking the law on four counts. As far as he's concerned a crime has to be dealt with as a crime and he tells them he'll have to report it.

The Platts arrive en masse at number 8 to find Todd waiting and Sarah barricaded inside the house. As family bang on the doors and windows, Sarah picks up the crying baby and we hear what she can hear – voices repeating her name her name over and over …

Karen

Roy is on the phone to the police station, about to report a 'traffic violation', when Cathy grabs the phone and hangs up. Her argument is that Alex didn't steal the car, he borrowed it, since he returned it. She tells him to tell the police that she was driving, she'll take the points on her licence and it won't affect him at all. "Lie you mean?" says Roy, horrified, adding that he couldn't possibly do that. They then start arguing which upsets Alex so much that he turns around and leaves.

Over in the Kabin, Norris is adamant that the shelves Jason have put up are not quite straight, they're a millimetre out. Kirk comes in and is trying to decide which boiled sweets to buy. Norris asks how the school reunion went, but Kirk doesn't want to talk about it. Alya is in the shop and she comes over, she tells Kirk she doesn't blame him for being angry, but that Beth is really sorry. "What for?" asks Norris, pricking up his ears. Kirk ignores the question, pays for his sweets, and leaves. As soon as he's gone, Norris starts questioning Alya and offers her a price reduction and free sweets if she tells. She accepts, and then tells him that Beth dissed Kirk to her school mates. "What did she say?" asks Norris, but Alya just thanks him for the sweets, and leaves!

Outside in the Street, Todd is shouting through the letterbox to Sarah, while a crowd of locals gathers outside, wondering what is going on. Jason comes over and asks if they need any help, but Sarah shouts through the glass door for them to go away or Callum will see them. "Callum?" says Jason, puzzled. Gail tells him to go away, it's private, and Audrey turns to the crowd and asks if they haven't got better things to do.

Leanne is in Dev's shop, having to put some groceries back because she hasn't got enough money. Robert comes in and Leanne asks him if the offer of some shifts still stands. He's a bit surprised but says yes. She asks if the 30 percent payrise still stands too. He says he thought they said 25, so she says ok. Just then they hear all the commotion and go outside.

Todd and David are trying to break the door down with their shoulders, to no avail. Bethany goes up to the door and asks Sarah to let her in. Sarah tells her no, it's not safe, but, at David's urging, Bethany tells her she's scared and wants to be with her. Sarah takes down the pile of charges and opens the door. At that point Nick and David rush forward and burst in, with Nick putting his arms around her and telling her everything's ok. "You liar!" says Sarah to Bethany, who weeps.

Outside, Jason asks Todd what's the matter with Sarah. Todd tells him that she thinks Callum is alive and coming to get her. "What's going to happen to her now?" asks Jason, but Todd doesn't know.

Inside the house, Sarah is still adamant that Callum is coming, he's on his way. Gail and Audrey tell her that he's dead, but Sarah says that's what he wants them to think. As they try to reason with her, David steps to one side and quietly calls for an ambulance.

Alex goes into the kebab shop, and tells Gemma he's messed up big time.

Fiz and Alya are in the factory when Beth comes in with a little carrier bag, she's been out buying sexy underwear, and shows them.

Back in the kebab shop, Alex tells Gemma that Roy is really angry and wants to tell the police. Gemma thinks he should turn himself in, she thinks if he seems upset they'll let him off, and she offers to go with him.

Back at the Platt's, Kylie manages to persuade Sarah to hand over the baby, and as she does so the ambulance crew arrive. The family tell them briefly what happened to Callum and how he was the father of the baby. Sarah is still adamant that Callum is coming, and then starts to accuse the family of being in on it too.

In the cafe, Cathy is trying to get hold of Alex, but he's not answering his phone. She's cross with Roy and tells him Alex was really upset. Roy's sorry, but points out that it's his own fault. He's still thinking of calling the police, it's the correct course of action. "Yes," says Cathy, "for a stranger, but he's family!" Roy insists he needs to learn he can't break the law and get away with it. Cathy asks if he would do the same thing if it was her, and Roy admits that he would. Cathy is furious!

The female paramedic assures Sarah that no one is going to harm her, and they'll take her to hospital where she'll be safe. Sarah eventually agrees to go with them, sobbing.

Out in the Street, Billy comes along with a large bunch of flowers, and stops short when he sees Sarah getting into the ambulance.

Cathy is just about to go out looking for Alex when he and Gemma come through the door. They explain that they've been to the police station where Alex handed himself in. "Don't worry, they let me off with a caution," he tells them. Roy is impressed, he tells Alex it was a very courageous thing to do and tells him that if he gets a provisional licence, he can use Woody for his driving lessons.

Back at the Platt's, Gail is getting some things together for Sarah, while a shocked looking Bethany wonders what is going to happen to her mum. Nick assures her that she's in good hands and will be fine. Audrey rues the day 'that man' ever came into their lives, and Nick blames whatever sick, twisted person put him under the garage.

Over in the pub, Jason wants to know why Phelan offered to do the work for Sarah. He says he was just trying to humour her. "We're not charging for it you know," says Jason. "Of course not," says Phelan, pulling a tenner out of his pocket to pay for the drinks.

Billy comes into the pub and says he saw Sarah taken off in an ambulance. "What about the baby?" asks Rita. Norris remarks that he's probably better off without her, which makes Billy furious. "What that girl needs is compassion, understanding and forgiveness, not the ill informed judgement of small-minded people!" snaps Billy, and walks out.

Outside in the back yard, a very upset Billy stands in a position of prayer, when Sean comes out. He tells Sean he tried to help Sarah, and Sean says he knows and hugs him.

Back in the pub, Norris is moaning that a vicar should never lose his temper, when Billy comes back in and apologises.

Kirk comes in and orders a pint, and then Beth comes in right behind him. He tells her he doesn't want to talk, but she flutters her eyelashes and asks who said anything about talking? She suggest they go home and make up, and shows him the contents of her carrier bag. Norris peeks in and then asks if that's all she thinks of her husband? That he can be bought with a bit of cheap polyester? Kirk thinks Norris is right, he can't be bought. Beth is annoyed and tells him not to bother coming home. "I won't," says Kirk as she storms off. However, once she's gone, Kirk starts wondering where he's going to stay. Rita points out that Norris has a spare room.

Roy and Cathy are shutting up the cafe. Roy tells her he was impressed with Alex, and he's relieved that he doesn't have to take the matter further. Cathy doesn't answer. Roy then says he's sorry if she thinks he was inflexible.....Cathy throws down her tea towel. "Inflexible isn't the word Roy," she says, "cold is the word! I thought you were a kind man, it was one of the things I loved most about you!" And with that she storms off up to the flat.

Kirk is at the house with Norris who tells him he can stay in Emily's room, just for tonight. Kirk sits down and asks if he can put the tv on. Norris tells him there's nothing worth watching and suggests they play game. He gets out the draughts and they sit down at the table.

Kylie is rocking baby Harry in his cradle when David comes downstairs and tells her she was right about Sarah, he should have done something sooner, and, no matter what she tells the doctors they must say she's delusional. Kylie is tearful and says she doesn't care anymore, it's what she'd done to her. David points out that she was trying to save Sarah's life. Kylie wonders if she should go and hand herself in, but David urges her to stay strong for them, the kids and for Sarah.

Anne Logan.

Friday 24 June

Hello, let's get cracking with this Friday episode.

Leanne sees Nick in the street and asks after Sarah. He says she's in the mother-and-baby unit but she's really struggling. He says it puts what he's been going through into perspective. He says he's meeting his counselor and asks Leanne to go to the meeting with him. He could do with her input in deciding what to do next. Leanne agrees, but with the look of a rabbit trapped in the headlights.

Kylie is exhausted. David tells her Harry's probably better off in the unit with Sarah. What's really worrying Kylie is that everything will come out. David tells her that she's too important for the children - if it comes down to it, he'll take the rap. He reckons he'll be out in five years.

Beth's hanging out the washing in the yard when she hears Norris and Kirk next door. Kirky's hanging out the washing over there. When Norris tells Kirk he'll make him a proper breakfast she drags the steps over to the wall and climbs up to tell Kirk it's time he came home. Kirk digs in his heels probably because of the way she commands, rather than asks.

Sarah seems quite blissed out on some drug or other. She tells Gail she feels so much better after a good rest. She asks for reassurance that she's safe there. The doctor comes in and tells them that though it's clear Sarah's been having psychotic episodes but she's also got a new baby, lacks sleep and has been under a lot of stress with the finding of Callum's body under the house. The plan is to medicate her anxiety and do a lot of talking.

Leanne's trying to talk to Nick on the phone when Steph races up (you won't see the word "Steph" without the word "races" immediately after it in this episode) and gabbles to her about what a madhouse it is at work. Leanne waves her away so she can finish the conversation, telling Nick she was just talking to Rita. He wants her to see the counselor with him at lunchtime.

As they stroll along the street, Tim tells Steve he has to sort things out with Michelle. Steve says he'll talk to her but when they meet Michelle and Maria it's clear that he can't.

Leanne enters the Bistro to be confronted by chaos, with Zeedan going on about running out of steaks, Andy forgetting what table settings he's layout out. Robert's disorganised and Steph races around trying to do six things at once. So it doesn't go down well when Leanne says she can't work the lunch sitting. She negotiates a half hour break and Robert makes her promise it won't be longer.

Max questions David about Sarah and then the police arrive and ask David to go down to the station. David tries to say they can talk to him in the house but he leaves with them after hugging Max and Kylie as if he's not going to hug them again for five years.

In the builder's yard, where Phelan sits behind the computer at the desk and Jason and Todd stand, Todd tells Jason he should go and see Sarah. They were both victims of Callum and Sarah's still suffering. Phelan says he'll look after things at the yard. Todd leaves and Phelan tells Jason he doesn't have to go to the hospital if he doesn't want to.

In the cafe, Roy asks Cathy how long this awkwardness between them will last. She's annoyed that he would shop a member of her family and he can't understand why she doesn't see that his moral code meant he had to do it. "Three days," she tells him. That's how long the awkwardness will last.

Leanne arrives and sits at a table with Nick. Nick says he's got some ideas to run past her. His phone chirps - the counselor is running late.

At the police station, the police show David pictures of him in the carpark at the Dog & Gun and ask what he was doing there on the night Callum was killed.

David says he was looking for Callum at the pub but he never showed up.

Todd and Jason go to see Sarah. She's lying back, apparently still medicated. Gail and Bethany take Harry out of the room. Jason sits with Sarah, holds her hand and tells her how sorry he is.

More bad news in the cafe - the counselor's now stuck in traffic. He'll be another half an hour. Leanne gets a text.

Roy and Cathy talk about principles. They can both see both sides of the question. Cathy thinks maybe she can cut the awkwardness down to one day. Though Roy warns her honestly that it could happen again.

The Bistro is out of control. They're short-staffed as Steph races off to the cafe where she's left her phone. Andy explains to Robert that she's bidding for a pair of shoes in an online sale.

Beth knocks on Norris's door as Steph races past on her way to the cafe. Beth tells Kirk he might as well have his dirty laundry because she's not washing it. And she tips it all over Norris's front step. Norris says he can use the washing machine there, and his cheese on toast is ready.

David is tired and wants to go home. The detective tells him he can go at any time. There are no lights showing on the recording system so I doubt they can use anything he says anyway!

Steve and Tim sit in the pub. Steve says the problem is that every time he looks at Michelle he sees Will. He can't get Will out of his head. Time explains he had that problem when he found out Sally had snogged Kevin. He talks about the stress of never being able to look at Sally without seeing Kevin, the distress of knowing your best mate and your wife had kissed... He over-eggs it and Steven has to calm him down, telling him Sally chose him. When it comes down to it, he's the one Sally married and that has to mean something. There's a lightbulb moment as Steve suddenly realises the parallels. He looks at Tim suspiciously but Tim appears completely innocent.

Steph races back into the Bistro. Robert snaps at her but he's more worried about whether she saw Leanne while she was out.

Michelle and Maria lunch at the Bistro. Michelle's thinking of going back on the cruise ships. She thinks it would help if she went away for a few months.

Jason's worried about Sarah. He asks Todd if he thinks Sarah had anything to do with Callum's death. Todd asks why Tony would confess to murder if Sarah did it.

Cathy forgives Roy.

Robert charges into the cafe and demands to do what Leanne is doing. He blurts out that she's supposed to be the Bistro manager, much to Nick's surprise.

Jason asks Phelan where he stashed Tony's tool bag. Phelan replies that it's somewhere safe and Jason orders him to go and get it. He's going to take it to the police station and get this thing sorted. It's time they found out the truth.

David phones Kylie from the police station. He thinks he'll be a couple of hours yet. "David, be careful," Kylie says. "I want you home. I need you here." David asks if that's Lily he can hear crying. "I love you. Bye," he says, and hangs up on Kylie.

The End
Margaret Carr

Good evening. After being shunted hither and thither in recent weeks I am doing my normal end of week update tonight. I have been on jury service this week but not served on a jury. Hints are that a case awaits on Monday. It has of course been a strange week when a majority of residents voted by a narrow margin to leave the EU. The political and financial ramifications will take some time to become clear.

This is episode 8930. It was written by Mark Wadlow and it was directed by Audrey Cooke. Copyright remains the property of ITV as usual to whom many thanks.

We open with Pat Phelan carrying Tony's tool bag from its hiding place back to the builders' yard. He offers to make it disappear again - but Jason seems unsure what he really wants.

At the Bistro Nick and Leanne are arguing over the latter's lack of clarity at having returned to working at the Bistro - she is after all in need of the money - Nick OTOH has had the amount Robert paid him. Leanne says she is on Nick's side, but she cannot afford to not work there. She will join Nick if he sets up something new - but until then she is living in the real world (of Weatherfield). Nick reluctantly acknowledges her position and tells her to get to work then.

The policewoman - the only one allowed to speak - returns to questioning David as they are still trying to identify Callum's movements on the night he died (bit late for that now). She asks about the text sent to Gemma from David's house. "Just leaving now". So David what time did he leave? David is unsure could be 9 or 9:30. David says Callum left the house never to be seen again. The police officer then says they are assuming Callum sent the text. David asks who else could have sent it? She points out the other text was sent several days later from Callum's phone by which time he was under the sealed floor. David denies all knowledge of the text and who might have sent it. The police officer thinks the sender and the killer might be the same person. David nods.

Kylie is looking at the post. It includes a letter for Sarah from Bethany's school. Kylie phones David and leaves a message hoping that there are no problems. Bethany arrives and can report that Sarah is OK. Bethany wants Sarah and Harry home. Bethany has brought her bags as she has come to stay at Gail's suggestion. Kylie says she can stay as long as she likes. (With the annex decommissioned where will they all sleep?). Gail is at the salon with Audrey. David has been gone hours Kylie tells her. She decides she needs to go to the station and wait for him and can Bethany look after the children please? Bethany agrees and Kylie heads out, reassuring Max as she goes. Bethany snaffles the letter from school.

Jason and Pat are discussing how the former will admit that the tools have suddenly turned up to the police - but Jason has no idea. Pat tells him NOT to open the bag as he will not want his fingerprints on them (and we have to assume that Pat has not handled any of the tools too!). Jason wants to know where they were hidden but Pat refuses to tell. Jason will tell the police an unknown mate of Tony's dropped them off. So Jason heads to the police station.

In the Bistro Robert is talking menu options with a couple of punters. They are bringing a group half of whom are vegetarians! Robert, despite being this ace chef cannot explain a panna cotta. Leanne arrives and Robert hands over the customer chat to Zeedan (in the job about five minutes), so that he can talk to her. The young red-headed daughter cheers up immediately! Robert remarks to Leanne that it is nice of her to turn up. Is she working shifts or half shifts or flexitime, or zero hours? They argue about whether or not it is Robert's business where she has been. Is she spying for Nick? On the lunchtime specials she responds? Leanne says that she will not be dragged into the argument between him and Nick. She will do the job because she needs the money with no ulterior motive. Robert admits that he does want her to work for him and backs away. Zeedan calls him a wuss.

Tim is on the switch when Steve arrives and it turns out he signing the latter up for a dating site online. In fact three. "Cupid's Arrow", "Love Quest" and "Gagging 4" - although the last one is made up! Tim says that Steve and Michelle are dead so Steve has got to get back in the game. Steve does not want to be signed up for any dating websites. Steve's phone beeps. Apparently three people are looking at his profile. Turns out one of them is half a mile away. But Steve refuses to text her - he meant what he said about not being ready. Tim says he should admit that he still loves Michelle, in which case stop messing her about and tell her. Steve acknowledges he is right.

Michelle is once again with her bestie Maria. The cruise company has just been agreeing final details and want an answer by the end of the day. Maria says she cannot make a decision this big so quickly. So Michelle tells her that the cruise starts in Jamaica and then will head around the Caribbean. Maria asks if she merely has to belt out a few Carpenters numbers each night (now that is my sort of cruise). Michelle claims that you have to be good. Maria urges her to give Steve another chance first, just talk to him. Michelle says that it is like banging her head against a brick wall. Maria continues trying to persuade her when Michelle's phone beeps - it is Steve.

The scene shifts to Norris and Kirk playing draughts (or checkers as some may know it). Kirk is providing a running commentary on his overwhelming success - he is leading 9-0 and within seconds he makes it 10-0. He tells Norris that Beth loves commentaries and is a mad rugby league fan, she even shouts at the telly. Norris thought Beth shouted at Kirk - so how long is he going to punish Beth? Norris likes it at the Cole Arena - bit like staying at his Nan's, next to the pickled onion factory! Kirk celebrates his victory. Norris cannot believe it as he had deployed his double-end corner move and he has still lost! Kirk wants another sherry. He is getting a taste for it and thinks it should be done in cans plus he wants another game. Norris is bored with draughts and suggests another game. He dives into the big freaky sideboard. Kirk admits he is missing Beth. Norris makes reference to his biggest mistake - marrying the formidable Angela, who could eat Beth for breakfast. Thinking about her gives Norris nightmares. Kirk likes being married. Norris extracts Boggle to play.

Kylie marches into the police station and says she has information in the Callum Logan case - and they are interviewing her husband David Platt. The desk officer asks her to take a seat.

After the break we resume with Jason arriving at the police station and asks to see the detective as he has evidence for the Callum Logan case - Tony's tools to prove his innocence. Upstairs David is being interviewed about the texts - was it David who sent them - they will get the truth. The interview is interrupted and David is left to think. The detective takes Jason upstairs and leaves Kylie sitting there.

Gail is looking after the children and comforts Bethany. Bethany says she is not coping and reveals that she has done something stupid handing over the letter. The look on Gail's face says it is bad.

Signaling the next step Steve is on the cab switch and cannot delete the app and messages which keep arriving from the dating sites. And yes he tells Tim he has got Michelle coming over. His phone beeps frequently. Michelle arrives and Tim makes himself scarce. Steve wants to talk to her - but his phone beeps. Michelle says she is finding it hard - some progress and then it goes backward. The phone beeps again with stupid texts as Steve calls them. Then Omar comes on the radio and he is at the wrong address. Whilst Steve is trying to sort out Omar his phone beeps again and Michelle glances at the phone where "Love Quest" on Friday 24 June at 16:00 is showing that Steve has received five messages. (Well done to the props team to getting the display details just right). Michelle looks at Steve and tells him that it is over and to forget it. They should not waste any more time. Steve has no idea why she is walking out of the door.

Gail does not understand. She knew Bethany had missed some lessons - but GCSEs? Bethany says she sat down in the exam, wrote down her name, looked at the questions, knew a lot of the answers but simply froze. She could not stop thinking about Sarah and the night she walked out. The letter is about one exam but Bethany adds that she messed up a load of exams. Gail is not stressed observing that they might have expected this to happen. Bethany promises that she is not going to mess about any more. She wants to make Sarah and Gail proud. Bethany begs Gail not to tell Sarah at the moment and she does not want anyone else to know for now. Gail promises to keep the secret and tells Bethany it is not her fault, nor is it the end of the world.

David emerges from the police station and into Kylie's arms. She makes it clear that she would not let David go down for something he has not done. She tells him that Jason has been in with a tool bag. David and Kylie leave the police station.

Zeedan is now expecting the party in on 24th and the redhead asks if he will be working - possibly he replies. He gives her a card and she asks for his personal number as well. Her mother drags her out. Leanne is enjoying this exchange and tells Zeedan that someone has the hots for him. Robert reckons he was flirting - but Zeedan says he was merely trying to seal the deal - the wide smile on Leanne's face tells otherwise. After all it is £300 and it is too soon after Rana to get involved again. Leanne points out that he only went out with Rana for about a week! And Rana was hot and matching that will be difficult. Leanne says he is too good for Rana. And Leanne invites him round for tea one night so they can have a proper chat. Zeedan agrees and returns to the kitchen leaving Robert to ask Leanne what she and Nick were discussing. She reports that Nick was looking at starting a new business - but it will not come to anything. She went along with it because she felt sorry for him. Nick has of course silently entered the Bistro and is standing at the end of the bar hearing Leanne spout this nonsense. She tries to apologise but he just holds his hands up, turns around and walks out.

Kirk and Norris are playing Boggle. Norris has "created". Seven letters so scores five points. Kirk slowly counts up to ten letters. Norris says it has to be a proper word. Kirk uses it every day "triacetate". The Alexiana range of bras uses it as it is very stretchy! Sent a consignment to Ireland yesterday. Doris is beside himself! Kirk says he is going to go but Doris insists on a rematch! Kirk wants to go but Norris insists on a chance to get even!

Nick is looking at business opportunities in Weatherfield on the internet. Leanne phones but he simply rejects the call and resumes his search.

Beth comes downstairs and tell Max that Gail is helping tidy up upstairs. David and Kylie return. He tells Bethany that the police think Tony did it so they are trying to piece together Callum's movements and so on. Sarah is in safe hands. Kylie is now more worried - she washed the wrench but who knows what evidence remains on it? But was all the DNA removed? David says they cannot do anything about it. They are going to have to wait and hope.

Jason returns to the yard and brings Pat up to date. He tells Pat they have to wait and see. Pat offers to buy him a drink. Pat says he has done the right thing. Jason just feels had about dobbing Tony in. Pat says it is better to get to the bottom of it. Jason hopes it is just a big cock up and that they find him innocent. Pat assures him that for peace of mind he needs answers.

Maria opens her door to find a furious Michelle there. Michelle is not wasting any more time chasing around after that idiot. He has been stringing me along Maria. He has moved on. Michelle tells her he has signed up to a number of dating websites and women are texting him. She did not ask him about it as she did not want any more lies. She has accepted the job on the cruise liner. She is going tomorrow. And the closing shot is of an upset Michelle trying hard to restrain the tears and clearly still furious.

Roll credits.

In other news ITV have released a press release to confirm that Kym Marsh is not leaving.

Cheers until next week.

Richard

Wednesday 29 June

It's Jason's birthday, and among his cards is a statement from the bank showing that his dad's money has gone into his account. However, Jason is far from happy, he says he doesn't care about the money, he doesn't want it. Unless he can find a way to clear his dad's name, he doesn't want to celebrate.

Over at the Platt's, David is assuring Kylie that the only thing the police could find would be her fingerprints on the wrench, and they've already told them that they moved the tools all the time. He says they've got to hold their nerve. "Try telling your sister that," says Kylie. Just then Gail comes downstairs with a bag of Sarah's things to take to the hospital. Kylie asks if there are any scissors or nail files in it. Gail is shocked. "She wouldn't do anything daft, she's got the kids," she says. Kylie reminds her that Sarah is not thinking clearly, and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Outside the pub, Liz gets out of a taxi just as Michelle comes along. She says she didn't know Liz was coming back. Liz didn't know either, until Steve told her the place was a war zone. Michelle tells her she doesn't have to worry about that, she's going away for a bit, she's got a job on a cruise ship, and she's going to Liverpool tonight. Liz is horrified and says she'll talk to Steve, but Michelle begs her not to, and says it's for the best, and hurries away.

Liz turns and sees Steve coming across the road and hails him, asking what he thinks he's playing at. "Do you realise what your wife is about to do?" she asks, and goes on to tell him about Michelle's job on a cruise ship and how she's leaving soon. Steve looks uncomfortable, but asks if she's going anywhere nice. Liz is exasperated and tells him that once she leaves the port, it won't be the only ship that's sailed!

Sinead and Chesney step out of their front door, talking about Kirk and Beth. Ches is sure Kirk will be back soon, but Sinead isn't so sure, and thinks they need a little shove.

Kirk, meanwhile, is having breakfast with Norris and playing a board game. When it's his turn, Norris tries to distract him by asking him what he wants in his packed lunch. All to no avail however, because Kirk beats him, despite never having played before. Norris is furious!

Phelan goes up to the office in the yard to find Jason putting files into a black bin bag. He tells him he shouldn't be doing that, the tax man might want to see the files at some point. Jason says it doesn't matter. Phelan then says that with his inheritance, they could now take the business to the next level, "It's an opportunity," he says. Jason turns around. "What about Callum's kids, what about their opportunity?" Phelan then tells Jason he needs to go away, to have a holiday, he'll mind the business. Just then, Jason gets a phone call, and he moves outside to take it, with Phelan following close behind and listening to every word. It seems that Jason is being called to the police station.

Leanne passes Nick in the doorway of the cafe, but although she tries to build bridges with him, he brushes her remarks aside and continues on his way out. Steve is sitting in the cafe and she moves over to speak to him, telling him he looks how she feels.

Liz is talking to Tim in the pub, urging him to speak to Steve, because if Michelle goes she might never come back. Tim thinks that would be shame, she'd be hard to replace behind the bar. Just then Michelle comes in, looking for her passport. Liz begs her to stop and have one grown up conversation with Steve to fix it. Michelle tells her that would take more than one grown-up. As she goes off upstairs, Steve comes in and Liz tells him to get upstairs after her and nip all this in the bud. Steve shrugs and says he's got to walk the dog, and goes out to the back. Liz tells Tim to go with him and talk him round, promising him free hotpot for a fortnight if he can pull it off. Tim says he'll see what he can do.

Jason goes to the Platts and tells them that the police called him down to the station. They've had the forensics back.

An absolutely gutted Jason returns home and tells Todd that the police think his dad did kill Callum, the forensics have confirmed it. The murder weapon was in the bag with Callum's DNA on it and Tony's fingerprints. If he was still alive now they would have charged him, so now they're satisfied. "So, case closed?" asks Todd. Jason says that unless someone walks into the station and confesses – yes. Jason then starts blaming himself for all that went on between him and Callum that caused his dad to get involved, then maybe he couldn't live with himself afterwards and the stress brought on his heart attack. Todd tells him that none of this is his fault, Tony made his own decisions and stuck by them.

Back at the Platt's, Gail has heard the news and has a lot of sympathy for Jason. "Poor lad," she says to Kylie and David, "the thought that somebody you love could kill, it's hard to live with, I know that." Kylie mutters that it depends on the person. David then asks Gail if she's going to apologise for practically calling him a murderer. She says she was in shock, she'd been sleeping over a dead body for months. She says sorry and then adds that Sarah has to be the priority now, and goes off to get her jacket. David looks at Kylie. "It's over," he says. She tells him not to put the bunting up just yet, Sarah could say anything once the shrinks get hold of her. David isn't worried, however, up to a little while ago, Sarah was convinced Callum was still alive, she's ill, and now it would be her word against a mountain of forensic evidence. "And that makes you happy?" asks Kylie. "No," says David, "it makes us safe. We've won!" Kylie is aghast. "We've won?" she says, "an innocent man's name has been trashed, Jason is in bits, your sister is in a mental hospital, and I've got to deal with the fact that I killed man. God help us if we ever lose."

In the pub, Sean asks Norris how life is with him and Kirky. Norris says he's simply helping him through a bit of marital difficulty. Billy remarks that it must be nice to have company with Emily being away, and Norris tells him that they play board games at night and although Kirk is nice enough, if brains were rocket fuel he wouldn't get off the launch pad. "So he's not presenting much of a challenge?" asks Billy, but Norris says no, on the contrary, there is no beating him, ever! Sean tells him to find a game that is so complicated Kirk can't get his head round it.

Jason is in the pub, buying drinks at the bar. He tells Liz he's sorry, he didn't mean to take it out on her. She tells him she knows, and it's so hard to believe about Tony. Jason goes to sit down with Phelan, and says that when his dad came back, all he wanted to do was to make up for lost time. Just then Gemma comes in and tells Jason that it's all over the estate about what his dad did. She says that Callum had a lot of friends and Jason should watch his back, she knows what Tony did was nothing to do with him, but there's a lot of people out there who don't think like that. She turns and goes out, leaving Phelan looking thoughtful.

Leanne meets Zeedan in the street and asks if he's heard from Rana. He says he hasn't, but thanks her for asking.

She walks on and meets Nick, and tells him that the job at the Bistro is just a means to an end, but she's just been to see Ken and he thinks a restaurant is a great idea. "Good for you," says Nick. "No," she says, "good for us!" She tells him she's going into town to see some commercial lettings people and thinks he should come with her and they can get the ball rolling. "Sorry, busy," he says, and starts to walk away. "What's more important than this?" she asks. He turns, and tells her he's visiting his sister in hospital. "If that's all right with you? And it's got the added bonus of being the truth!"

Norris sees Kirk in the cafe and tells him he's off to town to pick up a new board game. A game of settlement, discovery and trade, that demands high levels of strategic thinking and raw cunning. Kirk wants to know if they can't just play Buckaroo again, but Norris won't hear of it.

When he's gone, Sinead and Chesney come in. Kirk tells them he misses Beth, so Sinead suggests he talks to her. "Why should I talk to her? She's the one in the wrong," he snaps, and leaves in a hurry.

Steve is round at Tim's, and they're drinking the home brew. Tim tells him that if he lets Michelle leave he'll be making a big mistake. "Remember how you felt when Lloyd left? If you let your missus leave you'll feel twice as bad," he says. Steve says it's too late, she's made her mind up, there's nothing he can do. Tim persists, until in the end Steve tells him to be quiet, he feels like he's on Oprah!

Leanne has taken property details back to the Bistro, where Robert pours scorn on the idea and says he thought she'd knocked the idea on the head. She tells him they haven't, they're going to go ahead with it. Robert is still incredulous and says Zeedan would miss her, he's always coming out of the kitchen to moon at her.

Jason and Phelan have left the pub and are walking back to the yard when they stop, horrified at what they see. Jason's van is on fire, a huge blaze, tall flames and lots of smoke. Gemma is standing outside the kebab shop, watching. As Pat pulls out his phone and calls the fire brigade, she looks over at Jason and gives him a knowing nod.

The schedule this week was all changed around with a half hour episode earlier tonight and an hour one later on. This is the first half of the hour long episode.

Written by Martin Allen Directed by Ian Bevitt

Jason is furious and thinks Gemma knows who set fire to the van though she insists she doesn't. Phelan tries to calm him down and he storms away.

In the Bistro, after Zeedan calls Leanne "Lee", he has to endure Robert teasing him about it. They both wonder what she's letting herself in for by going into business with Nick. Tracy comes in with an armful of flowers for the restaurant and winces. She's been getting a pain in her general midsection.

Steve and Tim come along and see the aftermath of the smoking vehicle. Steve is shocked and not a little drunk.

Robert establishes that Tracy is taking her medication and she is, but lists a number of symptoms she's been experiencing. She hasn't got to the doctor yet. He thinks she's trying for his sympathy and coldly tells her to go tot he doctor. She softly asks does he not care? He roughly tells her he doesn't, not at this minute anyway.

Jason and Phelan talk to the police about Jason's theory about mates of Callum Logan being guilty of the fire but as he has absolutely no proof, the police can't do much at the moment. Jason reckons they won't be able to do anything and he might not have a business left if it keeps up. Phelan smirks at his back.

Liz leads Michelle out as Tim is bringing Steve round, each urging the estranged spouses to talk to each other. They are still clearly at odds. Steve reckons she already made up her mind and is leaving, seeing as she has agreed to the job but she argues that she'd change her mind if it was what he wanted. He's not happy she's putting the pressure on him. They stand in the middle of the street but still don't see eye to eye. She accuses him of being more interested in the texts from the dating sites but he does get Tim to admit he's done that behind Steve's back. She doesn't seem to care. They can't seem to agree on anything, both of them filled with defensive attitude and she tells him with disgust that she's got a train to catch. He's resentful and it's obvious it's what she wants so he turns his back.

Nick has come to see Leanne to apologize and she says sorry in turn. She offers him a cup of tea and he stays for a visit.

Sinead and Chesney have colluded to get Kirk and Beth together, Chesney luring Kirk home for a night of Danger Mouse movies. Sinead is to make sure Beth stays in. Beth comes along and asks Sinead to go out for a drink. She pretends she never goes out on Mondays due to a new diet. When Beth reckons she might find someone else, Sinead persuades her to have a quiet night in with her. She heads off as Norris comes by. Chesney tells him they'll have Kirk off his hands by tonight. Norris doesn't quite look as pleased as you might think.

Phelan and Jason are having a cuppa back at Number 11. He suggests he could run things if Jason wants to take a break to make sure the business stays a going concern. He thinks peoples' memories are short and they'll forget the current scandal. Jason considers a break. Phelan suggests a month, to start with and he can see how he feels from there. He himself will keep things ticking over. When Jason, who isn't really all that imaginative, wonders where he'd go, Phelan puts the world at his feet. Put a pin in a map, the world's your oyster. Todd comes in to see if Jason's ok, and to mention that the toilet in the shop needs fixing. Jason decides to do it himself to take his mind off things. Todd leads him out, with a backward calculating glance at Phelan, clearly wondering what he's up to.

Leanne tells Nick she was serious about going into business with him. She shows him some of the brochures of places she's seen already. He admits he's had it rough lately. She's excited and thinks that if it takes off, it'll help him get back on his feet again. He looks at her gratefully and then launches into a speech about how he always seems to come back to her and she always makes him feel like things are normal. She's getting uncomfortable, especially when he tells her she's meant more to him even than Carla. She has always "did it" for him and always will. I don't think that's what she wanted to hear.

After the break, she gets up off the sofa and he realizes he's put his foot in it. He explains it hasn't come out of the blue. It always comes back to her but she thinks he's rebounding. He denies that. They've always had that something there. He leans in for a kiss but she gently pushes him back, saying it's not right. He takes it sort of ok but is disappointed and leaves.

David leads the kids through the rain to the house. Todd comes over and tells David what happened with Jason's van. He asks David if Sarah is any better or has remembered anything. David says she needs a bit more time. Todd wonders if more time will help Sarah realize Callum isn't still alive but if she never gets there, the truth will never come out. Remember, he thinks Sarah killed Callum and that's what sent her over the edge. David shuffles, a bit uncomfortable with the direction the conversation is going.

Steve doesn't think there's any way he can stop Michelle from going. Liz scolds him, he could have easily stopped her but was too mired in defeat. She reckons they're both losers and he could manage to catch her before she gets the train. Liz is frustrated. She came back from Spain to help them sort it out but he isn't interested. Steve leaves with Liz shaking her head.

Jason is back to find Phelan fiddling with new locks for the doors and windows, just in case it will make Eileen feel safer. That has the desired effect. Jason remarks that he could stay away for awhile, if that's the case. He's subtle, is Phelan, but effective. Jason is lost in thought when Phelan invites him to the pub for a pint.

Michelle and Maria are standing by the taxi. Maria points out that Steve was drunk but Michelle refuses to go begging to him. She thinks there's no point making excuses. Steve watches from across the road, seeing that she's off. He stupidly says he hopes it works out. Maria hugs her and puts her in the cab. Steve the plonker watches as she is driven away.

Leanne has a glass of wine. She notices that she's got some messages. Nick has left one apologizing. Robert has left one to see she's ok and apologizes for insinuating things about she and Zeedan. She listens with amusement. Zeedan leaves a message assuring her he just thinks of her as a mate in spite of Robert's assumptions. She giggles. Nick leaves another rambling message. Then there's a knock on the door. She goes to answer it and is pleased to see who is it. She looks up so it's someone taller than her but we don't see who it is.

Beth is on the sofa with Sinead making popcorn in the kitchen. Kirk arrives. Beth and Kirk are annoyed that they've been set up and are angry at Chesney and Sinead who insist that they team up against them. But just then Norris comes knocking and looking for Kirk. His lights have gone out and needs Kirk to have a look. Clearly, he's luring Kirk back under this thumb. Kirk does promise to return but Beth spits not to bother.

Eileen talks to Billy and Todd about how she's still so surprised at what Tony did. Sean comes in to find out if they're still going out. They are as soon as Jason comes back and in he and Phelan come. Jason tells them he doesn't want to go out. He then tells them that he's decided to leave.

Kirk fixes the fuse for Norris but he knows very well Norris has already opened the fuse box door. Before Kirk can leave, he sees a board game set up on the table. Norris tells him it's the new game he was telling him about. And all set up just before the lights went out, Kirk observes, cynically. Norris suggests they play since he's there and has stocked up on beer and prawn cocktails. Sold. Kirk takes his jacket off.

Jason hasn't decided where he's going to go. His family is dismayed but Jason finds he feels awkward around everyone who knows what his father did. Phelan offers to get a bottle of wine while they decide if they're going to get a takeaway and declines Billy's offer to go along. Eileen tells Jason they're there for him.

Outside, Phelan is on the phone, establishing that nobody saw the person on the other end torch the van!!! He congratulates the person for a job well done, better than expected.

There are two nearly finished glasses of wine. Someone walks past and out the door. We still don't know who it was. Leanne comes out wearing a dressing gown, sighing heavily and looking very much like she's thinking "What have I just done?"

What has she just done? And with whom?

Tvor

As has already been explained, the schedules have been all up the spout this week. However, I can confirm that this really is the second half of an hour long episode that aired in the UK at 9.30pm on Wednesday June 29th! Provided that you read the updates in the order they reached your inbox the storyline should make sense. Well, as much as it ever does!

So, to continue where Tvor left off ...

Steve arrives downstairs for breakfast looking the worse for wear and, if he wasn't feeling bad before, he certainly is now after Liz and Amy lay into him for letting Michelle go.

Eva and Aidan emerge from the bedroom. While he goes off for a shower, Eva has a word with Leanne who tells her she was up early looking for a new job. Eva's surprised – she thought Leanne was thinking of going into business with Nick. Leanne tells her it's all got a bit complicated with Nick, Robert and the Bistro …

Over at the builder's yard Jason's telling Phelan that he's decided to go to Thailand when Eileen appears. She's worried he's leaving for all the wrong reasons but Jason's made his mind up.

Meanwhile out on the street a row breaks out when Kirk and Norris come out of number 3 just as Beth, Sinead and Chesney appear from next door. It seems Kirk never came back after fixing Norris's fuse the night before, causing Beth to blow one of her own. She storms up off the street sobbing that Kirk's broken her heart. He tells Ches he loves Beth but Norris is really lonely. Ches tells him it's time to choose his wife or the local newsagent, which shouldn't be that difficult.

Leanne is on the way to her interview when she meets Nick. They're both really awkward with each other but they confirm everything's cool between them. Is this last night's mystery guest? There's no way of telling …

Jason's standing on the balcony of the builder's yard with Eileen, contemplating his future. Norris comes out of the cafe, grumbling about something and Eileen manages to raise a smile when she asks if he's sure he can leave Norris behind. Jason looks wistful as he watches Eva walk past with Aidan.

Maria pops round to Carla's flat to pick something up and nearly jumps out of her skin when Michelle emerges from the bedroom. It turns out the cruise ship job entailed filling in for a singer in a Spice Girls tribute band. As Michelle puts it, she would have looked like the other girls' mothers so she quit before she started. She has a flight booked for Ireland tonight but doesn't want anyone knowing she's back, least of all Steve.

Steve, meanwhile, is moping round the cab office and admitting to Tim that he may have made the biggest mistake of his life. But as far as he's aware, Michelle is now enjoying herself on a cruise ship, making friends with all the other entertainers.

In the florist's across the street, Tracy's complaining about having to act as a therapist. First there's Todd, worrying about Jason going to Thailand and then Beth comes in to talk about Kirk. As if she doesn't have enough problems of her own, moans Tracy. Todd sees Jason walking past and rushes out after him. Tracy advises Beth this is her opportunity to get shot of Kirk for good. After all, she says, he's got the personality of an ironing board. Before Beth has a chance to defend him, Tracy doubles up in pain.

Todd has followed Jason all the way home. He tries to talk sense into him and points out that he's about to hand over his business to Phelan to look after, a man he hardly knows. When that doesn't work Todd tries another tack. What about Sarah, he asks. Doesn't he care what might happen to her? Todd says Sarah's totally broken by what's happened and asks if Jason will be thinking about her when he's lying on a beach somewhere.

Tracy's on her way back from the doctor's. She's telling Beth how annoying it is that if ever she has something wrong they always assume it must be due to her kidney transplant. Robert comes past and Tracy tries telling him but he doesn't want to know.

Across the street Kirk comes out with Norris who has plans to do a jigsaw together later. Kirk sees Beth and asks if they can talk. But Beth tells him the time for talking's over and besides, Tracy thinks she can do better than him any day.

Jason's at the hospital, visiting Sarah. He's surprised how normal everyone looks, including Sarah although no doubt it's the medication. She's really glad to see Jason and says she's lucky to have mates like him.

Leanne calls in at the Bistro on the way to her interview to tell Robert she's going to have to resign. He tells her they need her, he needs her but she won't be swayed. Leanne seems upset and really awkward about something – perhaps it has to do with the events of last night? She asks if everything was all right between Robert and Zeedan after yesterday. Robert says he doesn't know - Zeedan hasn't come in today.

Back at the hospital Jason has told Sarah about going to Thailand. She takes the news calmly and asks him to send her a picture of him with an elephant. Jason appears to have tears in his eyes as he holds Sarah's hand before kissing it gently.

Amy's reading magazines in the Kabin when Maria walks in and asks if everything's OK, earning her a rude retort from Amy who explains she's missing Michelle. Amy declares she's a product of broken Britain and they make documentaries about kids like her. She tells Maria that her dad is really missing Michelle, too. Maria makes a decision. She tells Amy that she promised she wouldn't tell her dad something but she never said anything about not telling her.

Out in the street Leanne bumps into Nick. She tells him that she's sorry, she's going to pull out of starting a business together as she's decided to make a fresh start. Nick is crestfallen.

It's finishing time at the factory. Beth comes storming out of the factory with Kirk in hot pursuit. He just wants a chance to explain. But when Norris tells Kirk he's got some of his favourite prawn cocktail crisps in for later and Beth rounds on Norris, Kirk finally shouts out that's enough. While everyone listens open-mouthed, Kirk gives what must be the longest speech of his life. He tells Norris he's sorry but it's over then turns to Beth to tell her she's his wife and he loves her. While Norris hovers in the background, clutching his broom, Beth cries tears of joy and Kirk takes her in his arms. It looks like all will be well again in the Sutherland-Tinker household.

Michelle's packed and ready to leave for Ireland. Maria pulls a face as Michelle announces it's just too painful to stay around here.

Over at the Grimshaws' thoughts are also on departures as they toast Jason with Champagne – although Sean has to make do with Ribena as Eileen has just helped herself to the last glass.

Michelle comes out of the flat with her luggage to find Steve standing next to the waiting taxi with Amy by his side. "You promised!" declares Michelle to Maria. Amy says she was the one who told Steve. Steve asks Michelle that even if she's determined to go then at least let him ride with her to the station so he can talk to her on the way as he has some apologising to do. They climb in the back seat and start to talk. Steve says he's been an idiot then he taps on the driver's window. The taxi stops outside the Rovers . Steve turns to Michelle and tells her that this is her future. "Our future," he adds as she joins him on the pavement. Steve asks Michelle to give him one more chance. Maria and Amy are making encouraging gestures at her from across the street. Michelle asks Steve whether he's just going to stand there looking gormless or if he's going to take her bags in. They kiss to a round of applause from Amy and Maria.

Round at the Barlows' Ken is laying the table when Amy comes rushing in with the good news. Tracy comes into the room at which point Amy announces if her mother's here then she's not and she walks out. Back outside, another taxi's ready to leave. This time it's Tim who's taking Jason to the airport. Eileen does her best to keep the tears at bay while Jason hugs everyone in turn, starting with Todd who tells him he's going to miss him. Phelan has a final word telling Jason not to worry, he'll take care of everything. In fact, he's the only person without a long face as the taxi drives Jason away from Coronation Street.
