Monday 3 April

All the Barlows are anxious to hear what Ken remembers though Tracy reckons he might not be thinking straight. Is she covering her backside? Sinead isn't going near the hospital because she knows he doesn't think much of her as Daniel's girlfriend. Turns out, Ken doesn't really remember anyway, nothing since breakfast that morning. The police got to him first. He's shocked that the police think it was not an accident. He's further shocked that it could be someone in his family, those high passions and all. He refuses to believe that. For now.

The family arrives. Ken wastes no time bitching at everyone for being hypocritical. They wasted no time bickering amongst themselves. Ken outed them all for secrets like Adam's run in with the drug dealer and he got himself so worked up he had the staff throw them all out, possibly scared of them. Did one of them do it?

Turns out Adam's been holed up in a bedsit, not in Canada but you didn't think he actually took Ken's money and disappeared altogether, did you? They're all going to turn in on each other at this rate, each suspecting the other. Daniel is upset that Ken can't remember anything because it means Ken probably thinks Sinead is still pregnant. He didn't tell him the truth because Ken was upset enough as it was. They argue about telling Ken about the abortion and Daniel reckoned they could lie and say it was a miscarriage, making me holler "Pot calling the kettle black" at the screen. Why is it ok to lie to Ken but it wasn't ok for her to lie to Daniel? yea, I get the difference but it does pain Daniel in shades of hypocrisy. They continue to argue about the whole situation because she thinks he's ashamed of her and what she's done. He does tell her he loves her.

Back on the Street, Rosie bumps into Adam who's sulking on Maxine's bench. He's all concerned about Ken, and it feels a bit "too little too late" to me. Adam hasn't really shown a lot of concern for anyone besides himself so there must be something else going on. Rosie takes him in hand and home for a comforting cup of tea. Adam asks for a favour, an alibi for Monday night because he doesn't have one. She refuses to lie to the police for him. She figures he won't bring up the drug thing like he threatens so she's calling his bluff.

An aside, we find out that Simon's had his phone confiscated on the last day of term before the Easter break for using it in school when he shouldn't have. Peter looks concerned.

Faye's down in the dumps. Anna thinks it's because she misses Miley but she must know it's also that she's upset she's not been allowed to see Seb. Everyone invites her out but she'd rather stay home and do school work with Craig's help. Only it's the first Craig has heard about it and he dropped Faye in it.

Audrey has the shop in stitches telling them about the client that wanted a hairdo like Donald Trump, three cans of hairspray and even then it was a dicey prospect in a little breeze! But disaster strikes in the form of a vacuum cleaner, not a stiff breeze and Audrey landed badly, breaking her arm! Ouch! Maria points out that she's not going to be much use in the salon though Audrey's not looking forward to enforced down time. She might if she takes a holiday in the sun, though.

Roy finds out from Peter about how Ken is and then goes to visit him later because Ken had called and asked him to come. The idea that maybe someone in his family might have tried to hurt him is sounding more and more likely to Ken. He remembers that a lot of his family were angry at him so it makes sense. Roy wonders if he does remember something somewhere but he doesn't think so. Ken admits he felt frightened of them but doesn't know who it would be. I think it's an after effect of the accident. Roy's comment that if someone tried once, they could again so he really needs to talk to the police if he truly believes one of his family could have done this. He might not be so lucky the next time.

Roy is visiting Ken in hospital when the police arrive. Ken's been doing some thinking since their last visit and he's called them back to tell them that he can't think of anyone outside his family who'd have a motive to attack him. On the other hand, within it, Ken believes there are plenty of grounds for suspicion …

And, talking of suspicious, Peter is in the Streetcars office looking at the computer. Tim wants to know what he's up to so Peter explains he needs to get back Simon's phone which was confiscated by a history teacher before the school holidays. As luck would have it, Tim knows Mr Rawlins – he's a difficult customer, keen on historical re-enactments – and he finds the address for Peter.

Back at the hospital Ken is furnishing the police with all the reasons his family might have for hurting him. He's told them about Adam and the drugs, splitting up Peter and Toyah to stop them buying the Rovers and refusing to help Tracy out to save her business. They ask about Daniel. Ken tells them about the offer from Oxford and Sinead getting pregnant but he doesn't think for a moment that Daniel could wish him harm as he believes he has a different relationship with him than the others. The policewoman suggests that that in itself could be a cause for jealousy.

Audrey's in the Rovers, feeling at a loose end. She tells Rita that she fell over the vacuum cleaner in the salon and has broken her arm. Rita advises the best thing to do when life throws you lemons is to stick them in a G and T and she orders some drinks. They're joined by Freddy and Cathy.

Rosie sits down with Todd, hoping to talk about her problems but he has enough of his own with Phelan. He says he wishes for her own sake that Eileen would stay on with Julie rather than coming back to Pat.

At another table, Chesney tries to talk to Sinead who's drowning her sorrows in a bottle of wine. He tells her he just wants to be her friend but she replies that they both know that's not true. Ches walks sadly away.

Adam is working on Ken's kitchen when he receives a visit from the police. Now that Ken's told them about Adam's involvement with drug dealers they're keen to know more.

The scene shifts to the ginnel. Gary goes round to the back of Kevin's house where he meets Faye coming out. He's sure she's up to something and marches past her into the house before she can stop him.

Back at number 1 the police continue to question Adam. He dismisses the claim about the drug dealing, putting it down to having a previous problem with painkillers and Ken getting confused due to the knock on the head. However, he does admit he never went back to Canada and ended up renting a room in a cheap B and B. When asked where he was when the assault took place he tells the police he was with his "girlfriend", Rosie Webster, who lives across the street.

Peter turns up at Mr Rawlins' house, hoping to liberate Simon's phone, but Mr Rawlins is a stickler for the rules and even Peter's pleas that Simon needs it back because his grandfather's in hospital cuts no ice. In desperation Peter sticks his foot in the door, whereupon Brian emerges behind Mr Rawlins. Judging by the outfits they're wearing, it appears the two men have been practising for the next historical re-enactment.

Gary's inside the house with Faye. He suspects she went behind her mum's back and arranged to meet up with Seb but she insists she's innocent, she's finished with Seb and all she wants to do is to be left in peace to get on with her art project. Gary has no choice but to believe her. He apologises and leaves. The moment he's out of the door Faye hurries to the window and nods to Seb who's hiding in the back yard. He comes in and tells Faye that most girls would have given up on him after he got arrested. Faye replies that she's not most girls.

Back at Mr Rawlins' house, Peter is pacing up and down outside while Brian argues the case for returning Simon's phone. He explains that Ken is a personal friend and that the family is under a lot of strain. Brian makes him an offer – he'll make himself available for the re-enactment if Mr Rawlins returns the phone. Mr Rawlins is only too happy to oblige as he tells Brian that nobody fills Lord Strange's breeches quite like him. He shares the good news with Peter but explains the phone is locked in a desk drawer at the school. Peter suggests to Brian he might want to remove the breastplate he's wearing before the three of them set off in the taxi to collect the phone.

Rosie returns home to find the police waiting for her on the doorstep. They tell her that Adam Barlow claims he was with her last Monday night and ask if that's correct.

In the Rovers Audrey's worried about how they'll cope in the salon without her but her friends tell her to make the most of her enforced rest and that she deserves a break.

Beth comes hurrying into the pub looking for Sinead. Chesney points her out. She's draining the last of the bottle of wine. Chesney watches sadly as Beth takes a very drunk Sinead home to get some black coffee down her.

Brian is next into the Rovers. He offers to buy Cathy a drink. She thanks him but declines by placing her hand over his, a fact that doesn't go unnoticed by Audrey and Rita.

Peter is back at home with Simon's phone. He's trying to unlock it but doesn't know the password. He quickly hides it in his pocket when Toyah arrives home from her appointment at the IVF clinic. She tells him her treatment's underway so next it will be down to Peter to do his bit. Toyah asks after Ken. Peter tells her that he's sitting up in bed talking and he thinks the attack has to be down to one of the family. Toyah has a slight question in her voice when she says it can't be Peter and, fingers crossed, Ken will know it wasn't him when his memory comes back. Peter looks worried. The moment Toyah's out the door he pulls out the phone but he still can't work out the password.

Sinead is staggering down the street with Beth. She stops to eat some chips and drunkenly tells Beth that she loves Daniel but, as for Ken, she hates him. She adds that it's the one thing she doesn't have to lie about. "He killed our baby," she says. When she says she's glad he got attacked, Beth tells her she's coming home with her.

Rosie goes round to Adam to give him a piece of her mind. She's furious with him for involving her in the way he did but she tells Adam that she gave the police his stupid alibi because he's just bonkers enough to try to pull her down with him and she will not put her mum through that. Adam thanks Rosie but she tells him not to thank her as she did it for Sally's sake, not his and she just hopes his side of the story stacks up. She adds that she's not lying to the police for him again and she doesn't care what he threatens her with.

Toyah comes in and finds Peter brooding on the sofa. She tells him not to worry, the police will get their man. Peter just hopes that they'll get the right man as the police are known to make mistakes. Toyah leaves and, as soon as Peter is sure she's gone, he gets out Simon's phone and smashes it to pieces with the aid of a hammer.

Wednesday 5 April

The Barlows are in the cafe eating breakfast and talking about the situation with Ken. Peter wonders if Ken really thinks one of them has hurt him, could it be something to do with the fact that he was just writing his will. Tracy points out that Adam is the only one who knows what's in the will, staring meaningfully at him. Adam reminds them all that it's confidential. They decide that only one of them should visit Ken, and it seems that Daniel is the one Ken minded the least, but Daniel isn't keen so in the end it falls to Peter.

Amy and Simon are walking down the Street, and he asks her if there's any news of their granddad. "How should I know?" she snaps. Simon wonders what's wrong with her today. Just then Brian comes out of the shop and asks if Simon's learnt his lesson now, and tells him that he's the reason he's got his phone back now. "What?" asks Simon, obviously puzzled. Brian says that Mr Rawlins was all for keeping it when Peter came over, but Brian talked him round. This is obviously all news to Simon and he rushes off to find out more.

Amy walks on alone, and passes Sophie and Rosie cleaning windows and talking about Adam Barlow. She stops to listen, pretending to be on her phone, as Sophie wonders why Adam pretended to be with Rosie the night Ken was attacked.

Simon has gone straight to Peter's flat and demands to know why he didn't give him back his phone. Peter looks shocked for a moment, and then comes up with a story about the phone falling out of his pocket into a puddle, so he binned it. Simon is shocked and still puzzled, it's not quite adding up. Peter hands him some money and tells him to get and get a new one. Simon looks at it disgustedly. "That won't get me what I had," he says. Peter says he's sorry, but he's skint. Simon leaves in a huff.

Bethany is in the cafe, texting Nathan, when Craig comes in and sits with her and they start chatting. Then Bethany sees that Nathan is suggesting she skips school and goes over to his place, so she gets up to leave. Craig asks who the message is from. "Just a friend," she says, and heads off.

Adam is in the Barlow's house, putting kitchen cupboards together. (Note: No worktops are fitted!) "You never told me you were with Rosie the night Granddad got attacked," she says, going on to say how she heard Rosie and Sophie talking about it. He says he was on his way there when he bumped into her and they got 'sidetracked'. "You'll understand when you're older," he says. "You didn't tell her I was giving you the money?" she asks, obviously worried. He assures her he didn't, and he didn't tell her because the less she knew the less she would have to lie about it, and as for telling anyone about her, his lips are sealed. Just then Tracy comes in the front door and wants to know what's going on. Amy gets up and leaves, to go and see her friends, and Adam says he's off to get cupboard door handles. As soon as she's alone, Tracy rummages through a drawer and pulls out an envelope containing the last will and testament of Kenneth Barlow. She opens it up, reads it, and frowns.

In the cafe, Sinead asks Beth if she did anything stupid when she was drunk. Beth tells her she said she wished Ken was dead! Sinead asks if anyone heard, but Beth doesn't think so. "You might think it," she says, "but you can't go round saying stuff like that."

Peter and Daniel arrive at the hospital and bump into the two detectives, who tell them that Ken doesn't want to see anyone, as it's starting to look as if Ken's assailant was known to him as there was no sign of forced entry or burglary. Peter tries to push past them and go into Ken's room, he wants to see his dad, but Daniel holds him back. Peter shouts through the door, asking if it's true that he doesn't want to see them, and inside Ken puts his hands over his ears and looks terrified.

As Peter and Daniel turn to leave, the female detective calls Daniel back, she wants to talk to him about the disappearance of his mother.

Adam returns to the house with a bag from the DIY store. Tracy asks what he and Amy were talking about when she got back earlier, and wants to know why he lied about being in Canada. Adam sighs and tells her that Ken wanted him out of his life, away from there, so he thought it would be easier if he lied and said he went back to Canada. "Where were you, the night he was attacked?" she asks. He says he was with Rosie Webster. Then she asks him about the will, knowing he helped with it. "It's strange, you, Daniel and Peter have been left huge chunks of money, whereas I have been left with nothing!" she says. Adam looks puzzled and says he doesn't know what she's talking about. She produces the will and shoves it at him. "This is what I'm talking about!" she snaps.

Adam reads the will and looks puzzled, he hasn't seen this version before, the one he saw left most of it to her, Peter and Daniel and he was hardly getting a penny. He points out that his signature isn't on it, and he wasn't even there on that date. Tracy still thinks he must have worked it in his favour and then tried to kill Ken before he changed his mind. Adam says that some might say she found the will and was so angry she tried to kill Ken herself, she couldn't prove she only just opened it. He says it's in no one's interest to go to the police with mad conspiracy theories. "And if you don't mind I've got a kitchen to finish," he says.

The police are talking to Daniel about his mother, and how he hasn't seen her since he was 15. They want to know why he didn't report her missing, and he says he was worried he'd be taken into care. He reminds them that he has reported it now, if he was hiding something he would have just kept quiet. The detective says he doesn't seem to have much luck with parents, his mother vanishes into thin air and his father ends up in a head at the bottom of the stairs. Daniel is very calm. "Look, I've told you everything I know, can I go?" he asks. The detective says he can, but as he stands up she says that he's one of the best liars she's ever met. For six whole years he lied about his mother, why should she believe him about his father? Then she says she's going to find his mother, if she's still out there. "Four months it's taken you, since I reported her missing," snaps Daniel, "I hope you find the person who tried to kill my dad just a little bit quicker!"

Back at the Barlow's, Peter is telling Adam and Tracy that Daniel has not, actually, been in contact with Denise, he hasn't heard from her in six years. It was Peter who persuaded him to report her missing. Tracy reckons Daniel did away with his mother and then came looking for Ken, he's a psycho. "It all makes sense," says Adam, adding that Daniel has a lot to resent both of them for. Then Adam remarks that the police spoke to him yesterday, and Peter wonders why he didn't tell them. Is that why he's keen to pin it on Daniel because the net is closing in on him? Then they all start bitching at each other, with accusations flying.

Sophie and Rosie go into the cafe where Simon is playing with his new phone. Simon then moans about the fact that he's lost all his messages, but Sophie points out that they'll be backed up.

Audrey, Freddie and Rita are in the pub, Freddie is watching Luke playing the fruit machine, and he's sure it's about to pay out. Luke eventually gives up and moves away, so Freddie gets up and starts to play.

Bethany is with Nathan, she thinks she shouldn't stay too long and how she feels a bit guilty about skipping school. Then she starts talking about her chat with Craig in the cafe.

Freddie is still playing the machine, but it has yet to pay out and he's run out of money. Rita ends up lending him a pound coin and hey presto! He hits the jackpot!

Daniel arrives back in the Street to be met by Peter who points out that the police must be thinking that he had something to do with the disappearance of his mother as well as the attack on Ken. Then he confesses that he's told Tracy and Adam about his mother. Daniel is really annoyed, now they'll be thinking the same as the police, and he starts shouting at Peter. Just then Sinead comes along but Daniel says there's things he needs to do and he'll meet her at the flat later. When he's on his own the pulls out his phone and starts looking up train times to Oxford.

Freddie is counting his pound coins, he's won £100. Brian points out that he only won because Rita lent him the pound. Freddie says he hasn't forgotten, and hands Rita a pound coin. "Here's your stake back," he says. Rita is disgusted. "Is that all I get?" she asks. Freddie reckons it was his gamble, his reward. Brian reckons Freddie should give her half, but Freddie says they didn't agree to any sharing. In the end, under suffering, Freddie hands over five pound coins. Rita tells him to shove it where the sun doesn't shine, and takes her original pound and puts it in the charity box before walking out.

Amy is in the flat with Simon, asking if the police yet know who attacked Ken. He thinks they don't. Just then his phone dings all his messages have arrived in his new phone, and he starts listening to the voicemails. There's one from Peter saying he's a bad person, he's messed up and has to get away, but he loves Simon very much. Simon is stunned.

Friday 7 April

Simon's at the bus stop staring glumly at his phone.

Dev's at the door of the old gym and Tracy shouts at him, demanding to know what he's doing. He's just checking the place is secure but there was definitely a note of panic in Tracy's voice. Luke sees her and comes over. He asked after Ken and offers her a share of his bacon barm, but she's not interested. He mentions that she's not answering any of his calls and she says it's a difficult time. When he's gone, Amy tells Tracy she's mean to Luke. Tracy changes the subject, asking Amy to keep away from Adam. Amy asks whether Tracy thinks Adam hurt Granddad, but Tracy changes the subject again and tells her to go and sit with Simon at the bus stop.

As Tracy goes to the door of her shop she's approached by Adam. She tells him off for sneaking up on her and says she'll speak to him later.

In their flat, Peter tells Toyah everyone thinks he hurt Ken. After going on about it, he realises Toyah's finished injecting herself and really isn't interested - it's their future family he should be thinking about.

Bethany's in the tanning salon and seems annoyed that Craig has called her. She gets rid of the call and Nathan suggests she does another vlog, with Mel. Mel doesn't seem that pleased.

Daniel tells Sinead it's hard to get used to being banned from seeing Ken. He thinks everything thinks he's the one who hurt Ken. He wants to get a cheap day return ticket and go to Oxford to see whether he can be reinstated on the Masters course. She goes off to work and he pulls out a bag obviously packed with enough stuff for several weeks, not a day.

The doctor's happy with Ken's progress, though she can't tell him whether his memory of the incident will return. She tells him he can go home.

Over breakfast, Tim asks Sally how she's getting on without her social media fix. Sally says she's not addicted to it - she just doesn't like being out of the loop.

Kevin's angry as he storms away from the corner shop, telling Dev he doesn't need charity. Dev tells Erica that Kevin's card was declined so Dev suggested he take the groceries and pay later, causing Kevin to erupt.

Liz is on the phone and Toyah asks who it was. She thought maybe it was the estate agent. She tells Liz that she and Peter are still interested. Liz suggests that Peter's behaviour in snatching a bottle of whisky made her think the pub wasn't suited to an alcoholic. Toyah says Peter didn't drink the whisky and is stronger than Liz seems to think. She asks if she can clock off a little bit early. It's Peter's weekend with Simon and she's arranged something special for them.

Eileen and Phelan discuss her hangover. She wants pain relief. The doorbell goes and she squints into the bright light as she opens it. There's a barbershop quartet singing Congratulations, half a dozen semi-naked male models and some kind of presenter and a new car.

Leanne and Nick talk about pyjamas but are interrupted by Simon coming home. He says he's told the holiday club organizers he's sick. He plays them Peter's message.

Bethany's planning her vlog and asks Mel if she can use her laptop to check the last one. The first thing she sees is a picture of Mel and Nathan kissing. She demands to know what it is. Mel says it's from ages ago but Bethany shouts, "I'm not an idiot!"

Simon explains about Peter breaking his phone and how he didn't get the message until he got his replacement phone. Nick immediately rants that this proves Peter is guilty of the assault on Ken. Leanne says they can't assume anything until they speak to Peter. Nick won't shut up. "It's obvious - he broke the phone to get rid of this message!"

Bethany is really angry with Nathan and is waiting in his flat when he gets back. He tries to tell her she's behaving like a stroppy teenager, not a grown-up but she's too angry to listen. She shouts that she doesn't like being lied to and stomps out the door.

Eileen's sitting in the car she won through a competition she doesn't remember entering - something to do with Brian's green initiative. Tim sees the irony in that but Phelan points out it's an eco-car and does 80mpg. Eileen's even more gleeful when Phelan agrees to teach her to drive.

Kevin snatches up a bag of groceries from the roof of a car being serviced and is halfway across the road before Luke can tell him the bag wasn't left by Dev but by Erica. He returns to the garage.

Roy arrives to collect Ken from the hospital. Ken tells him he's not ready to go home. Roy realises he's not talking about his recovery but about returning to his family. He offers Ken a bed until he feels he can go home. Ken looks scared.

Sinead goes home to fetch her purse and discovers a note from Daniel.

Sally and Jenny have lunch together at the Bistro. Sally says she's not deleted her social media accounts but is just not posting anything. Jenny says it's a shame because most people contacting the company about the new bras have mentioned Sally's name. She persuades Sally she should talk to Tim and get back online.

Nick's sent two bottles of wine to a table instead of two glasses. He seems rattled. Peter and Toyah come in and Peter says he didn't answer any calls or texts because his phone's on the blink. Nick says Leanne needs to talk to him. Peter and Toyah have the car packed and are taking Simon away to Liverpool for the weekend. Nick immediately offers them a couple of coffees on the house and asks them to wait for Leanne. He phones Leanne and tells her to get over there as soon as she can. He'll try to stall Peter.

Daniel's waiting outside the taxi office (I thought they were broke. Why can't he use the tram to begin his journey?) when Sinead finds him. She accuses him of running away and wants to know whether he remembers how upset he was when she tried the same thing. "Why would you lie to me? What are you running away from?"

Adam arrives to meet Tracy, who is sitting at the bar in the Bistro.

Peter wants to go but Nick won't let him and even stands between him and the door. So he has his back to it when Leanne, Simon and the baby arrive. He tells Nick he doesn't believe he's going to Liverpool and plays the message from Simon's phone. Leanne tries to stop him but he plays it anyway, meaning Tracy and Adam also hear it. "It was you, wasn't it?" says Nick. "You tried to kill your own Dad!"

The end
Margaret Carr

Good evening. This reporter was traumatized by the violence displayed in this episode. If this report causes distress please pursue with ITV.

This is episode 9138 and it was written by Joe Turner. The director was David Kester and the copyright remains with ITV.

We open on the Street with Daniel denying to Sinead that he did. She tells him that if runs away he will be suspected even more. In her gray hair she tells Daniel that he is better and cleverer than the rest of the family and he needs to stand up to them - at the moment he just looks like a coward. He says he needs a few days space, but Sinead knows he will not return. She knows he did not attack Ken (how can she know - because she did it!) - but she also knows she cannot stop him running away.

In the Bistro Peter is explaining his reason for leaving the message for Simon to the Barlow clan. Peter claims he went back to see Chloe on the evening and he made things worse. Chloe thought he had gone there to start a relationship and when he said no, she flipped. She started smashing up her own house. Then she turned on Peter. He grabbed her, pushed her away and then she slipped, fell, banged her head and cut her face badly. She had blood running down her face and her eyes were blazing and she said to Peter that he had assaulted her, punched her in the face and she was going to phone the police. The family (including Nick, Leanne and Simon) are not sure what to make of this.

Bethany returns home disconsolate. She admits to a row with Nathan and that it is probably all over. Sarah moves to console her. Gary and Sarah are of course relieved.

Back at the Bistro Peter continues that he got out there as quickly as possible as he knew he was in trouble. He did not know what to do. So he decided to run away. He phoned Simon and left the message played earlier. Came home and packed his bag. And then met everyone as the news about Ken spread. (BTW if Peter is telling the truth then both he and Chloe probably have alibis!). He admits to breaking Simon's phone to prevent the message reaching him. And it looks like Chloe never called the cops. He did not tell the police either because he did not want them rattling her cage. Not sure Nick believes him.

At Roy's flat Roy explains to Ken and Brian that Ken will have his bed and Roy will use the sofa. Ken is welcome to stay as long as he wishes. Roy explains that Ken feels unable to return home at present. Brian agrees that if clattered by a member of his own family he would not want to allow them a second go. Brian tries to extract foot from mouth. He heads out to buy biscuits to try and put matters right.

Peter insists that they have to believe him. Nick wants to take the recording to the police - Peter asks him not do so. But is gives Peter an alibi says Adam. Or put Peter on an assault charge asserts Tracy. Peter asks for a few hours to sort this out. He will the prove he is telling the truth. Peter goes, no doubt to see Chloe.

Sinead and Sally are both checking their phones on the steps at Underworld. Sally looks strained again.

Kev approaches Erica and says he will pay for the groceries. She tells him there is no rush. He thanks her. She says that she thought Kev would be less likely to shout at her. And she says he does not owe her - they all fall on hard times now and then. It was her pleasure.

Pat and Eileen are going for a driving lesson. Pat wants to go round an empty car park first. Eileen says it cannot be hard, gears, pedals, steer, just point and go. Brian wanders past and Eileen thanks him for the car she has won from his Green Initiative. He seems surprised but lets it go. He asks after Julie who is apparently the happiest she has ever been. She is thriving. Once Brian is gone, Pat says that Eileen told him that Julie had comfort-ate herself to borderline obesity. Not something to tell an ex-boyfriend says Eileen. She gets in the car.

Bethany thinks she may have over reacted but as Sarah says no-one likes being on the end of a lie. Bethany cannot understand why Melanie would have that picture on her laptop. Bethany wonders what else Nathan has not told her. She goes for a shower. Sarah and Gary have a conversation about how glad they are that it is all over. Bethany is halfway upstairs and stops to listen as they make it clear that Nathan was age-inappropriate for Bethany. Sarah is jumping for joy that Bethany can see he is a waste of space. And of course Bethany knows her mother and Gary are wrong!

Peter is on Chloe's doorstep. She opens the door and says she knew he would return. She has a nasty cut under her left eye. Peter wants her help.

After the break we are in the Bistro where Leanne and Nick are arguing in front of Si. Nick is only attacking Peter because Leanne is defending him. Nick points out that the message could mean that Peter had attacked Ken. Leanne accepts this.

Peter surveys the mess - Chloe has not cleared up the crime scene. She still might go to the police. He just wants the truth. She moves over to him and says they should start again. Peter says if he they did he would his attachment clear and would not lead her on. She reaches past him and offers him a drink from a wine bottle she picks up. He reminds her he does not drink. She still wants him to open the bottle. Peter says he has not come to play games. He explains he is a lot of trouble and yet he has not done anything wrong. She has got all the damage she wanted. Ken was pushed downstairs and the police think Peter did it. So she must tell the truth. She asks after Ken. Peter begs for her help.

In the tanning salon Melanie has a very large bag and goes to take money from the till. Warning pain ahead. Nathan is behind her and she closes the till. Nathan tells Melanie off for spooking Bethany. he thinks he can trust her to do a simple job and then lets him down. He tells her to open the till and take out £50. He slams the drawer closed trapping her hand. If she makes one more mistake she will take Bethany's place. She nods acceptance.

Pat admits to being terrified with Eileen driving. She assures him she will get the hang of it. But some professional lessons would be a good idea. She refuses to waste money on driving lessons. Pat insists they leave the next lesson until tomorrow. In the meantime she is going to back a horse in the National.

Roy is collecting Ken's needs - including Eccles. Tracy reckons that Ken thinks one of the family pushed him downstairs. Adam agrees and tells Roy to take the dog. Tracy tells Roy to tell Ken that they will not forget this.

At the Platts Bethany seems to have recovered her good humour and does not want to talk about Nathan. Bethany looks at her phone - no messages.

Over at the Metcalfes Sally's phone rings. It is an unknown caller and Tim offers to answer. But Sally answers it.

Daniel returns to the flat. Sinead's hair has now returned to her normal blondish colour with all trace of the gray having gone! He forgot something important - Sinead. She has been worried about him. He has realised that he always runs away from things. Told lies and kept his head down. It was easier being on his own. But he does not want to be on his own any more. She smiles and they have a snog.

Nick and Leanne are leaving the police station. They have handed in Si's phone but they have done the right thing. And if Peter is telling the truth all will be well. As they leave Chloe is at the front desk asking for DS MacKinnon. Leanne has remembered that Toyah starts her IVF on Monday.

Apparently it was Cheshire Haven on Sally's phone. They want to do a spread on Sally as a public figure. Tim reckons that if she is a posh magazine there will be more nutjobs after her. Sally reckons this is the good side of the job and they can do a spread on the entire family. This might be her only chance to get in the magazine and she is not going to let trolls spoil it.

Kev is cleaning a mini. It is Erica's and Kev offers to do the next service - but Erica insists she will pay in full. They call it quits and shake hands.

Toyah has at Simon's suggestion canceled their trip she tells Peter. Si is confused and does not know what to think. Well it is a mess. Apparently Chloe told Peter that she would tell the police the truth. He has to believe she will. Peter tells Toyah that she can ask any question and he will answer it.

"Did you hit her?" Answer: No
"Did you sleep with her?" Answer: No
"Did you drink?" Answer: No
"Did you attack your Dad?" This time Peter pauses and rubs his face before responding. Answer: No.

He needs Toyah to believe him. She does believe him. Peter hopes when Chloe comes clean they can all go back to being a family and on Monday they can make the family larger.

Chloe is telling her story. And she tells how Peter hates his father for sending him away as a child and how Ken is to blame for Peter's problems. She tried to calm Peter down. He turned on her. Swung his fist. She shows them the damage to her face. She does not want anything bad to happen to Peter. but she is scared and felt she had to say something. The policeman asks her to confirm this was the same night that Ken was assaulted. Monday 27 March. She says no. Her events all happened on Sunday 26 March. So Peter was not with her when Ken was attacked. Chloe does not know where he was on the Monday evening. The police look at each other. Chloe has exacted her revenge it seems.

Roll credits.

The "who pushed Ken" storyline will probably not wrap up until Britain's Got Talent week. Pat Phelan has been ruled out - but I wonder if the time clock on the recording was defective following the change in hour the previous weekend? My original theory of it being Ken tripping over Eccles seems not to fit the facts - apparently Ken was hit on the head. So was it Chloe? Lack of a motive? Denise? Well she is filming in Manchester apparently. Be prepared for a suspect of the week as the case is spun out.

And parents make sure your child is out of earshot before discussing their relationships.

Could Eileen learning to drive scare Pat to death?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Monday 10 April

Written by Mark Wadlow Directed by Matt Hilton

Sally's getting ready to host a press conference with some journalists later this morning. Tim is dubious and then worried when Rosie reveals that Sally has started posting on her social media sites again. Sally has a brave face on but her phone keeps chirping and judging from her face, it's not happy thoughts she's reading, it's trollish ones.

Liz coos over Oliver in his pram. Steve has had him for the night and is taking him home. Liz reminds him they need to clean up the pub because there's another buyer come to look the place over. Steve is still hanging on the possibility that Michelle might back down. Liz thinks he's living in a dream world.

Sarah calls back at Bethany as she's out for a run. Bethany seems to be avoiding her mother and the house and is in a typical teenage strop, as far as Sarah can tell. It might be more than that.

Kevin shuffles all the bills. He doesn't seem like there's much hope of avoiding bankruptcy. Anna's plan is to sell off some of her clothes. I'm not quite sure 5 quid is going to help Kevin's finances but there you go. He apologizes for things not being so good lately. They need some quality time together.

Sally's had her hair done in the salon in anticipation of the journalistic profile being done on her today. Gail comes in to set up an appointment. Audrey mentions to David that one of his old regulars has died, someone he's purple rinsed monthly for years. They mention Phyllis Pearce in conjunction with the conversation. David and Maria take advantage to wind up Gail with a bit of mutual flirting and giggling. Gail smiles. Audrey looks suspicious.

The DS and her sidekick, the one with the 1970s Life on Mars haircut, are back on the Street looking for more answers. Brian tries to get in good with them but is given short shrift when he has to admit he knows nothing though he does mention that Ken is staying at Roy's. They head over Victoria street way and Brian sidles up behind a building hoping to overhear something juicy.

Toyah confirms that they're going to the clinic today for the embryo implant. The doorbell buzzes and it's the police. Toyah is dismayed that the arrest for Chloe's assault is today. Peter's not surprised it's come to this though he does hope that he'll be out in time to go to the clinic with her. He's cautioned by the DS and says goodbye to Toyah.

Kate is looking at photos of Michelle (on holiday, I think, and with a bloke in the frame and a big smile on her face). Robert isn't too happy to see that photo and Steve walks in just as Kate is showing him the photo but Kate covers and tells Steve Michelle is back tomorrow. Steve hands Robert the invoice for the cab delivery.

Brian tells Roy that the police have taken Peter away. He's also making notes of this in a book for some reason. Brian wants to know when Ken is leaving. He and Roy get into an argument with the Selfish One on one side and the lovely, charitable friend on the other. Brian is told in no uncertain terms that Ken can stay as long as he wants. Ken comes out from the bedroom and heads to the bathroom for a shower while Brian wonders if he should tell Ken about Peter. Roy thinks it's a bad idea at this point.

In the factory, Sally comes in late. There is a discussion about the upcoming profile, Jenny wanting to know if the mastectomy bras might get a mention but Sally points out that she's the one they're interested in. She then asks for a copy of the Gazette as she'd had a message about an article that mentions her. There is. It's an obituary, or rather, a large ad that says she died suddenly from cancer. Ouch.

After the break, Sally is sitting there, shocked and upset amid a quiet group of coworkers. She looks at Jenny and tells her that if she's behind this hate campaign she's begging her to stop. Jenny insists that she would never do something like that, nor would anyone else. She doesn't want to give in to the troll but it's wearing her down. Jenny advises her to go to the police. She tells them that Tim had already reported earlier incidents but the general consensus is that she should go back and report it as it has gotten worse. Sally decides to brush it off and stand up and carry on. She puts her phone in her locker so it's out of the way.

Brian suggests that if Peter is the one that attacked Ken then he could make peace with the rest of the family (and go home). Ken comes out, having got dressed and he's apologetic for the imposition. Brian doesn't get a satisfactory answer as to how long Ken might be there so decides to tell him about Peter's arrest.

Eva and Aidan come into the cafe as does Bethany. David and Maria are already there having a coffee and talking about their schemes regarding Gail. Maria figures they'll have to tell Gail eventually. David jokes that Maria's dumping him! He wants to have one last poke and suggests Maria comes for tea and they tell Gail they're celebrating. Maria notices Aidan's discomfort at her apparently flirting with David. Craig and Bethany are chatting. Craig mentions a prison van that crashed and the prisoner is missing, presumed dead. She's paying more attention to her phone and he calls him on it.

Toyah comes in to the cafe to see Leanne who's in the corner. She tells Leanne about Peter's arrest. Leanne now feels guilty about handing Simon's phone to the police in evidence. Naturally, Toyah's not pleased.

Ken is quiet, gazing out the window. Brian is reading about new flats in the Gazette as a possibility for Ken who asks what time Peter was taken away. Brian consults his notebook and tells him the exact moment but then, after his phone goes off, realizes his working from home scam is rumbled and he has to go to work properly. Ken admits to Roy he was a terrible father, sending his children away to Scotland, letting Denise take off with Daniel. He's a man with regrets, is Ken.

Toyah frets about Peter. Leanne wonders if they shouldn't delay the IVF until everything is sorted. She's not about to do that so talks Leanne into going to the clinic with her instead.

At the police station, Peter is being questioned about Chloe. He agrees with the premise. His visit, the argument, the push where she fell, his alibi. He's shocked to find out that Chloe told them it was the day before Ken was attacked, even willing to testify in court. Peter assures them Chloe is lying.

Sally gets irritated overhearing her mates talking about the death notice in the paper, telling them that the troll wants them to make a big deal of it and they're doing just that. Sally wants it all to be ignored. She hears her phone jingle in the locker and decides to go look. Aidan brings in a parcel that was delivered at the factory for her. She slowly picks up her phone to see a message that someone is watching her. Sally is now alone in an empty factory, doing overtime to make up the time off from earlier in the day. She jumps when a phone starts ringing in the office. She ignores that and calls Tim to come pick her up so he can help her with the shopping, clearly unnerved as the office phone continues to ring for a bit longer. She eyes the parcel.

The journalists from the Cheshire Haven magazine arrive but Tim heads out to the pub, I guess he's not got the message from Sally.

Audrey confronts David and Maria but they just look at her innocently. She knows they're up to something but goes round the corner to get a taxi home (broken arm, can't drive). David and Maria spy Gail heading their way and go back inside the Salon. Gail follows them in, having been summoned by David. They wanted to tell her that they're getting married and Maria's pregnant. Gail does not look pleased.

Steve has seen the photo of Michelle draped over a man on holiday. Liz points out that Michelle is still wearing her wedding ring which at least gives Steve a reason to look a bit hopeful. He sees Tim at the bar and wonders why he isn't at the interview. Tim seems a bit fed up with it all and reckons Sally's just asking for trouble by putting herself out there again.

Meanwhile, Sally's still in the factory waiting for Tim and shaking. Her phone jingles again and she's scared to answer it but takes a deep breath and reaches for it. The message indicates the person can still see her and wonders if she liked the present which Sally hasn't opened yet. She walks slowly over to the table where the box has been set. There's a bit Fragile sticker on the side. She cuts the box open to some very ominous background music and cries out when she sees what's in it.

What's in it? Stay tuned.

Wow, Sally Dynevor is really putting in powerhouse performances lately. I am riveted and dead curious as to where this is going.

A panic-stricken Sally shuts herself into the factory office. The phone rings and she's in such a state that she rips the plug from the wall before closing the other door, leaning against it and sinking to the floor with tears streaming down her face. On her phone we see two messages from MUSTHANGSALLY2017. They read "You are heartless" followed, a minute later, by "I can still see you. Did you like your present?" The camera pans over the box. It's hard to tell what it contains but it certainly looks very unpleasant and messy.

Back at home the people from Cheshire Haven are waiting for Sally. As Sophie goes off to look for her mother she rolls her eyes when she overhears Rosie asking the reporter whether Sally's mentioned that she used to be a model.

Meanwhile, over at the fertility clinic, Toyah's getting ready for her treatment and there's still no sign of Peter. Leanne asks her if she's sure this is what she wants. Toyah replies that all she needs is for Peter to walk through the door and tell her everything's OK although obviously she needs something else from him as well if this is going to work.

In the Rovers, Sarah and Gary are enjoying a drink relieved that Bethany is no longer seeing Nathan.

Tim's playing darts with Freddy and Steve when Sophie comes rushing in, looking for Sally. At first Tim's not bothered she's missing her interview but he looks worried when Aidan says he last saw her in the factory and Sophie says she's not answering the phone. Sophie and Tim head off to Underworld.

Maria and David come in, laughing over Gail falling for their story about the wedding and the baby. As David goes to find a table Aidan sidles up to Maria and tells her he's glad she's moving on and that she should go for it. David sees Maria's face fall as Aidan walks away.

Over in the factory Sally is still in pieces. Hearing the sound of footsteps, she curls up into a ball then cries in relief as Tim and Sophie come in. Sally gets up a falls, sobbing into Tim's arms.

Back in the Rovers David asks Maria what was going on with her and Aidan and jokes about them having an affair behind his back. He realises from her expression it's not a joke after all. Maria admits they were having an affair but has accepted he's staying with Eva. She tells David it's a pity she's not really marrying him as he'd make a good husband. This is also meant as a joke but there's a sense that she could mean what she says.

Round at Platt Towers, Gail is sharing a bottle of wine with Audrey and worrying that she might have encouraged David and Maria to get together. Audrey points out that it's funny how they're all lovey dovey when Gail's around but the moment she leaves they drop the act. realization dawns that she's been duped. Gail smiles to herself and tells her mother that two can play at that game.

The scene changes to the tanning salon where Mel is straightening a pile of magazines when Bethany walks in. She pretends she's lost her make-up brushes then casually asks after Nathan. She apologises for going off on one with Mel about her and Nathan and adds that she bets he's had loads of girlfriends in the past. Mel snorts and says he's certainly had plenty of female attention. She becomes much friendlier and tells Bethany that she and Nathan only had a brief fling, not a proper relationship like he had with Bethany. Just then Nathan walks in. Bethany asks if they can have a talk. "What about?" he asks, pretending to look totally disinterested.

At the police station, Peter is still being interviewed and he's getting desperate as time ticks away. He insists he couldn't have attacked Ken as he was with Chloe that night, despite what she says. The policeman produces Simon's phone and then plays back the message Peter left for him. A message in which Peter said he was a bad person, he's messed up again and he's going to have to get away and, whatever anyone says he's done, he loves Simon more than anything. The message is timed and dated, leaving no doubt as to when he sent it. Peter insists he was talking about what happened with Chloe but, as far as the police are concerned, this all helps to put him well and truly in the frame. Peter begs them to let him go as he needs to be at the IVF clinic.

We return to the factory where Sophie and Tim are trying to comfort a very distraught Sally. Through her tears she tells them about the ad in the paper and the horrible messages. She admits her own stupidity for not coming off social media when she'd promised to do so. Tim tells her that he can't look after her if she doesn't tell him what's going on. Sally then tells them about the box. Sophie and Tim look inside and Sophie says she thinks it looks like an animal's heart. Tim vows to find whoever did this and says that when he does there's going to be real death notices in the paper.

Across the street, things are not looking good for Kevin who reckons his business is about to go under. Freddy offers to take retirement but Kevin flatly refuses and tells him that saving on his wages won't stop him from going bankrupt.

At the IVF clinic Leanne is by Toyah's bedside. She can't believe Toyah has gone through this process six times and is now blaming herself for the reason Peter isn't there. If only she hadn't told the police about Simon's phone, Peter wouldn't have been taken in for questioning.

Sally is now back at home with Tim and Sophie and they've told Rosie about what's happened. They all jump when a message comes through on Sally's phone but it's just the reporter from Cheshire Haven saying she'll try to make another appointment. Rosie looks concerned as Sally promises to Tim that she's coming off all social media.

David is round at Maria's when Gail arrives clutching a wedding dress. It's the one she wore when she married David's father she tells them and he's delighted with the news. Maria and David look horrified when Gail starts to reel off all the other people she's told, including Sarah, Lily and Max. Audrey arrives and confirms that Nick is also over the moon with the news and says that Stephen is even coming over from Italy. David can't believe it and admits it was all a joke, there's no engagement or baby. But the joke's on David and Maria when Gail admits she was getting her own back on them and she high fives Audrey.

Over at the tanning salon Nathan is exerting his hold over Bethany once more. He tells her that she is beautiful and intelligent and so much more special than all the other little tarts out there. Bethany begs him to start over again with her. She tells him she's been going out of her mind and she can't live without him. Nathan comes round from the other side of the counter, kisses Bethany and tells her they can give it a try. Bethany promises never to do anything like that again.

Back at Sally's she tells Tim that she's deleted the last of her social media accounts. But there's something else Tim wants her to do – step down from the council. But that's a step too far for Sally. She tells Tim she loves her job and tomorrow she's meant to be at the opening of the new LBGTQI centre and she can't let people down. But Tim is angry and scared by the fact that "some sicko" has delivered a pig's heart to her in a box. He tells her that if she goes she'll be putting herself back in the firing line. Sally doesn't want to back down so Tim tells her if she goes she's on her own and he's going to be sleeping on the sofa tonight.

In the Rovers Steve's on the phone to the estate agents canceling future viewings. Liz is furious – they haven't even exchanged contracts with Peter and Toyah yet.

Bethany comes in to speak to Sarah and Gary. With great glee she tells them that she and Nathan are back together. Sarah makes a show of being pleased for her but Bethany tells her mother she knows that she and Gary don't like Nathan as she overheard them slagging him off. She adds that it's OK because she doesn't get to veto Sarah's boyfriends and that she's going to be spending more time at Nathan's place from now on. With that, Bethany leaves and joins Nathan who is waiting for her in his car outside.

Simon sees Peter arriving back form the police station. He says sorry about handing over his phone but Peter tells him it's fine and he hopes Simon understands about Chloe. Simon tells his dad that he's in no position to judge after the way he treated Leanne. He asks about his granddad. Peter tells Simon the police accepted what he said and they know he didn't hurt Ken. As they hug we see Peter's worried expression over Simon's shoulder.

Toyah is back home where Leanne is looking after her. Peter arrives back so Leanne leaves them to it. Toyah asks if he's been with the police all this time. Peter tells her he has and it was a complete nightmare. However, he does have one piece of good news – he made it to the IVF clinic in time to give them a sample. In that case, asks Toyah, what's the bad news? Peter tells her that Chloe has dropped him in it by lying to the police and saying that Peter went round to her house the day before Ken was attacked which means he doesn't have an alibi and the police are convinced he's guilty. Peter tearfully says it means even if Toyah does get pregnant, she and the baby could be visiting him in prison.

Wednesday 12 April

Rosie finds that Tim has slept on the sofa all night, and he's worried that someone is going to come round and kick the door down. Rosie thinks he might be overreacting, he thinks she's underreacting. Sally comes downstairs, all bright and chirpy, determined that today is going to be a good day and she wants his support. Tim says he can't go with her, it would make him into a hypocrite.

Michelle gets out of a taxi right outside the Rovers where Steve is sweeping. She looks across the road at him, and he looks at her, just as Robert comes out of the Kabin and takes in the whole scene.

Johnny is trying, with difficulty, to button up his shirt, his fingers don't seem to be working. Jenny comes in, oblivious to this, and tells him that Michelle is back today and she's going to have a meeting with her about planning the wedding. Johnny gives up and decides not to wear a shirt and goes back to the bedroom and pulls on a sweater, looking worried.

Maria is sitting with David in the cafe. He's got to go and see a solicitor, one of his clients has left him something in her will. He asks if Maria would like to go with him.

Anna has taken a couple of bin bags full of clothes into the cafe. She tells Roy she's getting rid of them, she doesn't feel confident in them any more. He asks which charity shop they're going to, but she tells him she's taking them somewhere where they'll pay her for them. Roy then asks if she'd like an advance on her wages, or a loan, but she refuses both.

Michelle is in the Bistro talking to Kate, telling her she's concentrating on the wedding planning for now, while she waits to get some money out of Steve. They then start chatting about a 'fit bloke' who was in the photos Michelle posted online, and Robert, nearby, pricks up his ears. Michelle laughingly tells Kate that the guy is Carla's new, gay, best mate. Kate then gets back to work and Robert comes over. Michelle apologises for the way she treated him before she left, and she's feeling much better now.

Toyah arrives at Leanne's flat with flowers to thank her sister for her support. She tells Leanne that Peter made it to the clinic in the end, but Leanne is skeptical that this is the best thing. Toyah is sure that Peter didn't attack his dad, and as for Chloe.....! She's given Peter an alibi, but for the night before the attack on Ken. Leanne is worried that Toyah will be pregnant and Peter end up in trouble.

Sally and the girls are at the town hall, where she introduces them to the mayor, Martin. "Who's gay," she says, pointing out her lesbian daughter Sophie and her straight daughter Rosie. (?) Sally asks if she'll be speaking from a podium or behind a barrier, but is told that today is all about breaking down barriers and she'll be amongst the throng. Sally is clearly unsettled by this news, and looks visibly afraid as she descends the stairs towards the waiting crowd.

Johnny and Jenny are sitting with Michelle in the Bistro, going through the wedding plans, but Johnny is somewhere else in his head and sits looking worried. When he's asked for an opinion he makes an excuse and leaves the table.

Another one who's worried is Tim, and he's in the pub, as Steve tells Sarah about the heart in the box. Tim is afraid someone is going to do something really bad to Sally and tells them how she's at the town hall giving a speech. "And you're so concerned about her you're in here having a pint?" says Steve. Tim thinks for a moment and then decides to go and see how Sally is.

Michelle catches Johnny as he comes out of the gents and asks if he's ok. She tells him it's normal to be having second thoughts. He protests that he's not, he's just under the weather that's all. "If you are getting cold feet, it's never too late to pull out," says Michelle, but unfortunately Jenny has come up behind her and hears this. "Some wedding planner you are!" she shouts, "what the hell do you think you're playing at?"

The mayor introduces Sally to the crowd and, putting her nerves behind her, she starts speaking. Then a camera flash bulb goes off and makes her jump, throwing her off her stride for a moment or two, but with Rosie and Sophie, and Billy and Todd in the audience, she manages to carry on. Tim comes in at one side and sees a girl in the crowd taking photographs with phone. He watches as, smiling, she then turns and leaves. He follows her out and accosts her, demanding to know where she's posting the pictures. "Give me your phone!" he shouts.

Back in the Bistro, Jenny is demanding answers. Michelle tries to explain that Johnny seemed distracted, out of sorts, she was just seeing if he was ok. Jenny starts shouting and ends up sacking Michelle, telling her she's a rubbish wedding planner.

Back at the town hall, Tim has tried to snatch the girl's phone, and got bitten in the process. A security guard holds him back and the commotion brings Sally and the rest out into the hallway. As the guard calls the police, Tim claims that this is the girl who has been trolling Sally.

Toyah is in the cafe and sees Ken go up to Roy's flat. She remarks that Ken could have stayed with them, Peter adores his dad and would never hurt him. "You would say that, wouldn't you," says Roy, going off to put her order together. When he's not looking, Toyah slips through the door to the flat upstairs.

In the Bistro, Michelle is talking to Kate about Johnny and how he seems flustered. Kate is sure it's just Bridezilla Jenny forcing him into marriage that's doing it. Michelle wonders what she's going to do, no pub to run, no wedding to plan.

Toyah is up in the living room of Roy's flat when Ken walks into the room, and is startled to see her. She apologises for scaring him, and says she just wanted a word. She tells him that Peter is innocent. Although he was with Chloe, she is saying it was the night before the attack. She goes on to say that Peter would never hurt him and deep down he knows that.

Tim is at the police station being interviewed. He is adamant that the girl taking the photos is the one trolling Sally. Then the police tell him that she was at the town hall because her dad works for the charity Sally was raising money for, and she was texting her boyfriend. The policeman tells Tim he won't get anywhere by laying into every random he bumps into.

Robert sees Leanne in the Street and tells her that as they haven't yet found anyone to cover her maternity leave, he's offering it to Michelle. Leanne is stunned to hear that Michelle is back and asks if there is no one else who could do it. Robert tells her this is not a consultation, he's just asking her to pass the message on to Nick, and anyway, as Leanne is on maternity leave the two of them won't be in each other's faces. "Please, give the girl a break," he says.

David and Maria arrive back home with a Yorkshire terrier! That is what Mrs Moss left David in her will – she loved David so much she called the dog David! Then he tells them that she also left him twenty thousand pounds!

Tim arrives home and tells Sally and girls the police just gave him a caution. Sally is upset and angry with him, but he tells her he loves her too much to let this go, and he doesn't want to lose her. he's frightened someone might try to kill her. She starts to cry then, saying she hated every minute of today, and she just can't do it any more, she's going to resign from the council. She sobs in his arms.

Anne Logan

Friday 14 April

We begin this episode with Jenny and Johnny talking about wedding plans. Johnny seems a bit fed up with all the fuss and then Jenny announces that she's asked for the invitation drafts to be emailed to him to proofread.

Rosie leans on Tim's van and voices her disapproval at what she sees as Sally letting the morons win. Tim points out Sally's been lying awake all night worrying. Sally comes out in her dressing gown and insists she's going to resign. She warns Rosie not to do anything stupid. Sophie's not there because she's at church - it's Easter, after all.

Anna's in the cafe asking Fay if she thinks Anna is made of money. She shoos Fay away to clear some tables. Fay sees Phelan sitting at a table and asks if he's heard from Seb. He hasn't, but he does know that Seb plans to plead guilty. And, yes, he's likely to go to jail. He broke the other boy's jaw. Fay wants to go to the court hearing but Phelan says Anna would have his guts for garters if he took Fay. "Sorry, kid." Anna spots who Fay is talking to and hisses her away from him.

At home, Gail and Sarah discuss theme parks. Gail doesn't see the point in taking kids to them when they're too young to remember anything. Sarah points out that Bethany's not too young, and Sarah enjoys theme parks too. David comes in and wants to know what they're talking about. Sarah shows him a website and tells him they could take the whole family and it would barely put a dent in their winnings. David points out that, A, it's not winnings. And B, it's his! And if he did pay for a holiday for the kids it would be to Barbados to see Becky.

In the Bistro, Robert's shouting down the phone at a temp waitress who isn't coming back. Nick comes in and demands to know why Robert's deliberately making things difficult for Leanne. Robert protests that he isn't. Leanne's on maternity leave. He thinks Nick's real motivation is because he went back to Michelle's ("Nothing happened," insists Nick) and doesn't want to have Michelle around all the time. "I'm offering the job to Michelle!" says Robert.

Steve's gone to see Michelle. He's arranged a relationship counseling session for them and it's today. Michelle laughs. She thinks he's ridiculous. Their baby had been dead five minutes before Steve had a replacement for him. "You destroyed me, Steve." Steve tells her he doesn't want to let her go. "I reckon that me and you would be all right in the end."

Kevin, Anna and Tyrone sit in the cafe to discuss Kev's possible bankruptcy. Yep, just the sort of conversation you want to have in public. Tyrone has lots of questions but Kevin doesn't have many answers. He's got a meeting with a financial adviser and he'll know more after that.

Gail's at the cafe counter telling Shona about David, the dog, and the money. Shona says he deserves some luck. "Honestly, I'm dead chuffed for him." Gail goes off and Shona gets a weird sort of cartoon-dreaming look on her face (not particularly good acting here) and tells Anna she's just thinking about what she would do if she came into some money. Gary comes in and tries to give Anna some money but she refuses it.

Robert goes to see Michelle and offers her a job. She asks if she can think about it and tells him what Steve has organised. He asks if she's going to go and Michelle tells him that if he'd asked that this morning she would have laughed in his face. But what if Steve's right for once? "Then you should go," says Robert.

Sarah tells Gary that Bethany's planning to spend more time with Nathan. She tells him about David's 20 grand and says he's had a hard time and should use it to take the children away somewhere. Gary says David's not the only one to have had a hard time. "What about my Mum?"

Sally begins to type her resignation letter. She hears a car door slam in the street and hastens to make sure the door is both locked and bolted and nobody can look through the curtains.

Rosie's getting annoyed because she can't get through to Sophie. Sophie arrives and points out her phone was off because she was in church. Sophie's worked out that whoever put the ad in the paper must have left some sort of a paper trail. They probably had to give their name.

Outside her flat, Robert and Michelle discuss the counseling. He thinks maybe she should go. She should hear what Steve has to say. Michelle doesn't think "sorry" will be enough. Robert says he just wants her to be happy and if counseling is going to do that, she should go. Michelle hugs him and thanks him for the job offer.

Johnny's in the factory office and seems distressed but Katie barges in and doesn't seem to notice anything wrong. She notices some spelling errors in the invitations at 50 paces and it's clear Johnny missed them. He gets up and rushes out of the room, saying he's going to the Rovers for lunch, leaving Katie protesting that she brought food with her.

Still in the cafe, Gary points out to Sarah that because of David, his Mum's still trying to come to terms with what happened. She can't just go off to forget about it all.

Michelle gets a text from Robert wishing her luck.

For some strange reason the people at the Gazette have left the front door open on a bank holiday weekend. Sophie and Rosie can't see anyone in the place. They see a bloke whom Rosie recognizes and the photographer who lied about her. They follow him into his office. He's obviously terrified of what they might do. Rosie tells Sophie to get the blinds. "You've got information and we want it," she says.

In the Rovers' back room, Steve tells Liz that Michelle didn't turn up. "Maybe it was too soon," he says. Liz tells him that just because he wants something, that doesn't mean it will happen.

Michelle finds Robert in the street. She realises he wants her to be happy, even if achieving that means she's back with Steve. Robert says he cares about her. "Why?" she asks. "You know why." Michelle says she has to hear it. "Because I love you," he admits. Michelle makes him say it again. She kisses him.

The End
Margaret Carr

Good evening. This is episode 9143. It was written by Susan Oudot and directed by Matt Hilton. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. Those of a nervous disposition may well want to skip the next paragraph.

The episode opens with shot of a naked foot, with red toenails and a tattoo just above the ankle moving across some white sheets. The view point changes and we see Michelle kissing Robert, both apparently wearing no clothes in bed together. For those with long memories I am sure we never saw such a shot when Deirdre was bedding Mike. (Although I do have a memory of her in bed with Dev). Both seem to think that was "amazing" and "unexpected". Michelle just wants someone to come and tell her what to do, about everything. Robert says he knows that they are not on the same page and he knows that now may not be the right time. His choice was not if he loved her, merely if he told her. And he knows she is not there yet. But maybe she will want to be with him in the future? And Michelle does not dismiss it. Her phone goes and she is then apologising to Steve whilst Robert starts to get dressed. Once the call ends Robert is displaying his assets in some underwear and he tells her that she needs to go through with the marriage counseling. She tells Robert she saw Steve getting into the cab and she knew she could not go through with the counseling. She thought about what Steve would say - and she just knew that she could not go back to that. Robert however wants to know that it is the real thing and he is not merely a back up. He has to be the man she wants. She says she is sure.

Sarah has made lunch for Gary. She also tells him that she will not tell David what to do with the money he has inherited. Gary is sure that David could make a story up to explain it if needed. Gary is not going to let the subject drop though.

Johnny is returning to work and talking on the phone to Jenny about the invitation. He then falls to the floor for no apparent reason and Kate helps him up. She tells him off for lunchtime drinking. He looks very worried but tries to dismiss it and hurries back to Underworld.

At the newspaper office the photographer has nothing to do with obituaries he tells Rosie and Sophie (or Scott and Bailey as he calls them). Rosie spots the freshly ironed shirt, the Paco Rabanne and a huge special Easter Egg for Katy. She tells him to cough the password or the egg gets it! Apparently the egg contains an engagement ring. He logs them onto the system.

David and Maria return from the Red Rec with lots of children and he sends Maria to get chips. As David pushes the pram Gary catches him and tells him that Anna and Kev are struggling to survive - and will shortly file for bankruptcy. Gary then reminds David of the pain he has caused Anna with the accident. Gary tells him to stop planning holidays and think about what he could do with the money and stop being sorry as that is not nearly enough for what he did.

Outside the garage Ty is bringing Fiz up to date with his discussion with Kev being likely to file for bankruptcy. They will probably lose the garage. And people may come after them for money. But as Ty says it does not look good. Luke and Freddie don't know - but the latter is going to retire. David overhears them talking about the bankruptcy as he goes indoors. Fiz hugs Ty.

Faye thanks Pat for taking her to court. Seb has been given four months. Faye wants to go and see him as she knows he is scared. Pat suggests she writes a letter. Pat offers to take her. But they have to keep it secret from Anna.

Robert and Michelle are in good humour as they go down in the lift - he has been working on a new dish! She feels like she is about to do the walk of shame. She does not care who seems them and she will be taking the job. He moves to kiss her and the doors open. Being Friday it is of course Steve's time with Ollie and so when the lift doors open Steve catches them as they emerge. At least he has his explanation for her not attending the counseling.

After the break Steve recalls the build up - shoulder to cry on, ear for listening and hero who found her - he is not deceived. Michelle turns on Steve and reminds him of his visit to Leanne's. He shouts after Robert that he has changed his mind and he will fight Michelle all the way.

At the Platts (or is the Tilsleys?) David is looking at David (the dog) and tells the dog that he does not want the dog judging him as well. The dog whines slightly. David gets up and goes out.

Kate is in the Rovers worrying and Liz assures her that Johnny did not drink at lunchtime - an orange juice and left his hotpot. Liz thought he looked as if he had a lot on his mind. Steve storms back in.

Kev is getting a coffee in the cafe with Anna to keep himself awake. David comes in and asks if Anna has a minute. he has come into some money and he wants Anna to have it. Anna wonders why. He says because of the accident and she has to take it. He has thought about his kids and he writes a cheque for £19k. He insists as he hands the cheque over. Shona overhears what he is doing from behind the counter. David refuses to take the cheque back. And he leaves. And we get a shot of Shona smiling in the background.

Michelle is settling into the job at the Bistro. She is not brooding and she is not sad. She has a new job and she has Robert she tells him. She says it is the first time in a long while she has felt in control. Not such good news for Steve. She wants her share and she will fight Steve if he is going back on his promise.

Scott and Bailey, sorry Rosie and Sophie find the advert was placed by a fake name - but they left the advertising footer on the email. Rosie calls Sophie acerbic and goes onto explain what it means. She thought she had been called acidic and was worried about a food allergy! The footer advert is for Cute Cuddlies - some form of pet care with an address!

At home Kev and Anna are feeling happier - the money does not get them totally out of the woods but will ensure that they can keep going. Kev has felt the tension in his stomach disappear. He suggests a couple of drinks and then an early night. Anna's face falls when he mentions the early night. They head off to the Rovers. Seb phones Faye and she tells him that she loves him. He responds in kind. She promises to go and see him.

In the Rovers Ty and Fiz are talking about ways to increase income. They leave as Kev and Anna arrive and Kev offers a drink but Fiz makes a comment about them getting a drink when they are going bust. Kev cannot say much as it is public but that he thinks there is a way out of the mess. He asks for a day or two (the cheque needs to clear). Fiz is not impressed.

Shona and Kate have been chatting. The latter heads off to see Johnny. Michelle strides in with Robert following looking for Steve. He appears from the back and Michelle says she wants him out of her life. He is going nowhere. Michelle will settle for the divorce as discussed and half of everything. Steve turns on Robert blaming him. Steve asserts that this is just Michelle getting back at him. She tells Steve that he does not deserve her and she knows it. And Robert is twice the man that Steve will ever be. Steve observes that Robert is the sort of man who will have sex with a woman wearing another man's wedding ring. Steve wants to know why Michelle is still wearing her wedding ring. Michelle says she is still wearing it to remind her of how much she hates Steve for he did to her. It reminds her that he lay next to her as she cradled their son knowing that another woman was going to give birth to his other child. But the only thing that matters to Steve McDonald is Steve McDonald so she takes the ring off and throws it at him. She tells him that if he chooses to fight her Steve will need all the help he can get! She stomps out of the Rovers. Steve nods as she goes.

Roll credits.

Who pushed Ken was off the agenda tonight.

Are we finally going to hear about Shona's link to earlier events (the answer is yes as I have seen Monday!)?

What is wrong with Johnny? Betting elsewhere in this house is MS. I am not so sure.

And I cannot see Michelle and Robert lasting long term - she has bounced into it far too quickly. What will Tracy have to say when she hears?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard

Monday 17 April

Written by Simon Crowther Directed by Gill Wilkinson

Michelle may or may not be late on her first day at her new job but it won't matter because she's waking up with the boss!

Fiz and Tyrone usher the girls into the car while Sophie and Rosie are off with an address in hand. Rana passes by and admires Rosie's high heels, silver, it looks like, with a pink fluffy bit on top. Faye is by the chippy on the phone finding out where to meet Pat Phelan while Gary is giving David an earful in front of the salon about the money he gave Anna. He is whining that the 19 grand is ok but his mother could have got more if she'd gone for compensation. Ungrateful git. There's a client peeking through the blinds of the salon, waiting for David I think because he brushes Gary off to get inside.

Leanne seems a bit disconcerted to find out that Nick was ok with Robert hiring Michelle as manager while she's on maternity leave. What happens later? Nick says they'll worry about that when the time comes. She's also discovered that Michelle and Robert are an item. Rebound, that's her declaration (I agree).

Outside, David retrieves the little dog who got loose from the back garden. Shona happens by and makes a remark about dogs being the way to attract women. David is nonchalant about it. His client, Mrs. Kitchen, comes out grousing that David is 8 minutes late, much to Shona's bemusement. David wants to take the dog home first but she's not having it. Shona offers to do it but David is reluctant to give Shona his house keys. Meanwhile, Mrs. Kitchen makes dark threats about Trip Advisor and complaining to Audrey. He finally gives Shona the dog and the keys with a warning not to steal anything and goes in to the salon with Mrs. Kitchen who is a superb character and I want to see more of her!

Adam comes into Number 1 through the back door. He shouts but doesn't get an answer. He notices a laptop open to a web page about antibiotics. Tracy comes in and is not best pleased, assuming he's snooping. She pretends she's got a bit of a cough. He wants to know if she has any news about anything such as Denise and Daniel or Peter and his problems. She's reluctant but he asks about Denise. Tracy recalls some of the history, the Brian that Denise used to live with when Daniel was a kid. Not Brian Packham, Brian Dunklin (or something like that). That's all she's got.

Sophie has parked the van on the side of a road. They've come to the headquarters of Cute Cuddlers, someone's home it looks like. They knock but nobody answers.

Shone feeds the dog while she's in the Platt house then has a nose at the photos on the side table. She then looks up the staircase with a shifty glance and decides to take the chance and go up. Just plain curious or casing the joint, we don't know at this point.

In the Bistro, Michelle is giggling with Robert who's trying to go over the ropes he's trying to teach her. Zeedan and Daniel lean against the bar. Zeedan reckons there has been chemistry between Michelle and Robert for ages. Nick comes out of the kitchen and chivvies them for gossiping. Clearly that's touched a nerve, observes Daniel. Michelle continues to flirt with the boss and is not bothered that the staff are gossiping.

Just as Shona's coming down the stairs, Gail and Sarah come in from shopping and they're talking about David giving Anna the money. They're very specific because of course there's an eavesdropper, right? They even go over the details of David's plan to blow up the car and the van that carried Kylie's murderer which was the root cause of Anna's accident. Shona looks pretty shocked and runs quietly back up the stairs. Gail and Sarah hear the toilet flush, so that'll be Shona's excuse. She comes back and tells them she's returned the dog but does admit she's heard what they were talking about.

In the salon, Mrs. Kitchen is complaining about the out of date magazines. (Wait, I've seen Audrey buy new mags for the salon a number of times) David apologizes and blames Maria for it. Mrs. K asks who the girl was (Shona) and hearing David call her the girl from the caff decides that Shona likes David and the feeling is mutual. David just rolls his eyes and continues to fuss over her hair. She's further surprised to hear that a client left him the dog and a wad of cash, making sure he knows she doesn't have either money or a dog, so there. But she also asks what he's going to do with the money, nosy old thing. David tells her he'll buy some new magazines.

Michelle is now on the phone with her solicitor and when Leanne comes in, she makes sure to dig in the knife by reminding the solicitor that "they did sleep together behind my back and had a baby together".

Sarah leaves Gail to deal with Shona. Gail defends herself (keeping secret the real cause behind the accident). She had two little children that had just lost their mother and David was grieving. Shona points out that the boy in the van still didn't deserve it. It's complicated is all Gail can say. She begs Shona not to tell Anna.

Kevin invites Tyrone and Fiz out for a nice lunch at the Bistro but Tyrone tells Kevin that he and Fiz already have plans. Watching a film? Kevin thinks Tyrone is lying and just doesn't want to eat with him. Anna's money is going to help immensely and things will be ok. He looks abashed and says he'll have to ask Fiz who comes up to the door just then. Kevin asks her about the film and she looks confused.

Sophie and Rosie are sitting in the van, waiting and hoping to see someone come back to the house where they think the stalker lives. The house looks very run down with a lot of garbage and old furniture in the front area and graffiti on one of the walls. Sophie's phone rings. It's Kevin but she doesn't take the call. He rings Rosie next and she does the same thing.

Tyrone is skeptical about Kevin's generosity, he still harbours quite a few ill feelings, it's very clear. Fiz suggests they sit next to Tim and Sally who are also invited. He doesn't think a few grand is going to solve anything. Fiz dreams about the Bistro's sticky toffee pudding and reminds him that the girls are at a party and will be out all afternoon. Think about it, please? The more Tyrone thinks of the steak, though, he's clearly tempted but no, no, he doesn't want to be friends with Kevin. Fiz looks at him like he's a stubborn idiot and opens their fridge door. Yep, they can have lunch at home. Celery. A few carrots. Tyrone gives in. But he's sitting next to Tim!

Shona can't get over that David could have killed and hurt so many people besides the one he was trying to kill. Gail accepts that Anna's injury was unfortunate. Shona thinks David should be doing serious time. Gail needs to explain her point of view but Shona thinks you can't keep quiet to save your own children. Gail thinks Shona doesn't understand, not having any kids of her own. Shona says it isn't up to them to decide and leaves.

Mrs. Kitchen leaves. David butters her up but she doesn't tip him. Shona stalks past him and gets on the bus.

Ken comes downstairs, on his way for a checkup. I think Tracy might be taking him. He overhears Adam on the phone trying to track down Brian Dunklin. I wonder why he doesn't just ask Daniel or does he not want Daniel to know he's trying to track down Denise? Roy offers him a cup of tea in the meantime.

Tracy fake-coughs by the corner shop and when she sees Rana exit, calls to her, complaining about the cough. She is hoping Rana could write up a prescription but that's not going to happen. Rana goes across the road and Luke comes up behind her, offering to make her a special lemony drink for her. She finds out it's called a "benjy" because his grandfather used to make it and that was his name. Benjamin Britton. She allows him to make her one after all, taking his arm affectionately and fake-coughing again.

Anna's taking a call from Faye who's trying to get out of a lunch with her mother, saying it'll be too boring. If it's Tracy Ken is waiting for, she hasn't arrived yet and Ken thinks he will have to take a taxi. Adam comes in looking for his jacket and then sees Ken and has a word, saying it's good to see him up and about. Anna passes over the jacket he left there. He offers to take Ken but Ken insists that Roy is taking him, looking a bit upset. Adam says he wasn't the one that hurt him and he knows where he was at the time of the attack. Adam insists he wouldn't hurt Ken and he leaves. Ken tells Roy he's going to order a taxi.

Luke has installed Tracy on the settee with a duvet and the benjy drink. He asks her if they're ok because she's been a bit distant lately. She assures him everything is ok and apologizes for not replying to her texts. She asks him to pick up Amy from the precinct.

In the Bistro, Kevin is frustrated that neither daughter is picking up his calls. Faye is there so her mother didn't let her off the hook. Tim and Sally aren't there yet so they don't put in their food order. Kevin tries to start up a rather awkward conversation about them all knowing each other for so many years. He tries to bring up old memories. Fiz proposes a toast to the garage. Tyrone makes a complement for David's actions (the money) though Anna reminds them that David was responsible for her injury, too which Tyrone does remember. Tyrone then notices that Michelle is working at the Bistro and Anna whispers that Michelle and Robert are together.

We are now in a prison visiting room and look, there's Clayton, him that killed Kylie, coming in to visit someone. Who can it be? Surprise! It's his mum. It's Shona!!!!

Tvor

Written by Simon Crowther and directed by Gill Wilkinson

Well, we now know that Shona is Clayton's Mum. As they face each other across the table in the visitors' room at the prison we learn that she's decided to forgive him for everything, he blames her for being a useless mother and she blames Clayton's father for being an abusive bully.

In the Bistro Michelle's getting stuck into her new job by suggesting they should introduce a cheaper lunchtime menu. Meanwhile Faye is keen to make her escape from Kevin's gathering and keeps anxiously checking her phone.

While Faye wishes she wasn't at the Bistro, Tim wishes he was but Sally refuses to leave the house. He tries to jolly her along by reminding her that Kevin's paying for the meal but Sally is frightened to go out.

Across town, Sophie and Rosie are out on a window cleaning job when Sophie thinks she recognizes a young woman from the LBGTQI event where Sally spoke. Rosie needs no second bidding and marches straight over to accuse the woman of trolling her mum. At first she denies all knowledge, then admits Sally's name rings a bell and tells them her step-mum has a habit of causing trouble on the internet. She promises to have word although her step mum is at the clinic because she's not well. Rosie threatens to involve the police if the woman doesn't sort it out.

Tim has managed to persuade Sally to go to Kevin's lunch after all and everyone is now tucking into their food, apart from Faye who can't wait to leave. Anna's surprised as she hasn't even had pudding but Kevin points out she's fifteen and jokes that she must be bored out of her head listening to Ty wittering on. Faye hurries out and then looks relieved when she sees Phelan waiting for her in his van outside. She gets in and they head off to Weatherfield prison.

Luke says goodbye to Tracy on the doorstep. She does a couple of fake coughs and he's clearly suspicious about her claim that she's ill. The moment Luke has gone, Tracy swaps her duvet for a coat and then hurries off across the cobbles. Adam calls after her but she ignores him.

Toyah and Leanne are having a chat over a cuppa. Leanne is fuming about Michelle taking over her job at the Bistro but Toyah points out Leanne has probably got the better deal, all things considered. She has a baby and a fiancee and Toyah tells Leanne she'd swap places with her in a heartbeat.

We return to the prison where Shona is trying to make up with Clayton but he doesn't want to know and tells his mother not to try visiting him again. Phelan and Faye are sitting at another table in the room and, as Clayton walks out, Phelan turns round and spots Shona. Seb comes in and seems pleased to see his visitors. He tells them things aren't too bad in the prison.

Back on the street Tracy arrives home. Adam follows her inside the house. He hasn't been having much success with his detective work and now he's turning his attention to Tracy. He knows she's up to something but what?

Shona gets off the bus looking down in the dumps. Gail hurries across the street. She worried about her. Shona tells Gail she's not going to tell anyone about David but says he's no better than Clayton. Gail is surprised Shona knows Clayton's name. "Of course I do, I'm his mother," she cries. Gail looks suitably stunned.

Gail has taken Shona back to her place for a cup of tea. Shona tries to explain what happened. She says the moment she saw Kylie's photo in David's wallet she realised who he was but the only reason she ended up living on the street was because Billy came to her rescue. Everyone was so nice to her that she didn't want to leave. Gail wonders how Shona had the brass neck to stick around and look her grandchildren in the eye, knowing that her son had killed their mother. Shona explains that she cares about them and that, as Clayton's mother, she feels responsible for what he did.

Luke bumps into Adam on the street. He was supposed to pick up Amy from the precinct but she wasn't there and he wonders if Adam knows where she is. They continue the conversation and Luke inadvertently reveals that he wasn't actually with Tracy on the night of the concert when she found Amy so Adam works out this must mean he gave a false alibi for Tracy to the police.

Kevin and Co emerge from their lunch in the Bistro which seems to have done the trick. Kev finally convinces Ty that he wasn't responsible for burning down the garage. To Anna and Fiz's delight the two men seal their restored friendship with a big bear hug.

Adam goes round to confront Tracy. He tells her he knows that Luke lied to the police but Tracy reckons Adam's going round looking for ways to lay the blame on anyone but himself.

In the Bistro kitchen Nick asks Robert about the plan to introduce a cheaper lunchtime menu. He thought they'd decided against it a long time ago but Robert says everyone agrees with him, including Michelle. Nick gives him a bit of a look.

Out in the restaurant Leanne has come in to talk to Michelle but her attempt to offer an olive branch down like a lead balloon. They start spitting insults at each other and Leanne tells Michelle to remember that she made the effort to mend bridges and there will be no more second chances.

Round at Kevin and Anna's he's relaxing with a beer following the success of the lunch. He invites Anna to sit down next to him and suggests an early night. Anna's whole demeanour changes and she starts to make excuses. Kevin adopts a resigned expression.

Shona is having a heart to heart with Gail and explaining how her relationship with Clayton broke down. She tried her best to bring him up on her own but then Clayton's dad and his step-brother Macca intervened and turned Clayton against her. Once he moved in with his Dad he changed completely and his behaviour went from bad to worse. Shona says she couldn't even bear to go to his trial. Gail asks Shona which of them should tell David as he's bound to find out sooner or later. After all, she says, Shona isn't the one who killed Kylie. But Shona doesn't share Gail's faith in her David's reaction. She promises not to tell anyone about what David did, provided Gail doesn't tell David about her. Gail tells Shona it's a deal.

Wednesday 19 April

It's breakfast time at the Platt's, and David is looking for David the dog who seems to have gone missing again. He then asks Gail to ask Shona for his keys if she sees her.

Mary is outside the florist when she sees Tracy coming out of the medical centre, but Tracy won't tell her why she was in there. Just then Luke appears asking if she's got a minute, but Tracy hasn't, and she hurries off.

Pat sees Shona and tells her he saw her at the Young Offenders institution, then he asks who she was visiting. She thinks fast and tells him it was her nephew. As Pat walks off, David the dog appears and runs into the house and hides behind the tv set, barking.

Sarah is in the cafe when Craig comes up to her and asks how Bethany is, he says he's sent her a few texts but not had anything back. Sarah tells him she hasn't seen much of Bethany, she's spending all her time at the tanning salon. Sarah then suggests that Craig just goes there to see her, she thinks Bethany might appreciate that.

Mary is working in the florist when Adam comes in looking for Tracy. Mary tells him she's not there much at the moment and when she is, she's troubled.

Fiz is in the cafe, chatting on her phone and arranging to meet her old friend Kim who she was in care with. When she's finished her call, she tells Roy that Kim is now a lecturer at college, she bumped into him the other day. Tyrone comes in then, and she tells him she's going to meet her old friend Kim for a drink later.

Adam sees Amy in the Street, she's not at school because Tracy forgot to pack her lunch, so Adam takes her to the cafe.

Freddie and Luke are working at the garage. Luke says he'll miss Freddie, now he's retiring. Freddie says that in some ways Luke has been like a son to him. Luke suddenly spots Tracy walking down the other side of the Street and rushes over to speak to her. He asks her if she's angry with him, and it seems she's a bit put out because he messed up her alibi. Then he asks to talk to her inside the house.

Adam and Amy are in the cafe, she tells him she doesn't like seeing Tracy upset. He asks if Tracy has said much to her about what happened to Ken. "Why should I tell you?" asks Amy, and reckons he's trying to make out that it was her mum who attacked her granddad. She tells him she thinks it was him. "I wasn't even there," says Adam, but Amy doesn't believe him. She tells him to stop making out it was her mum, or she'll tell everyone what he's really like. She gets up and leaves.

Luke tells Tracy he wants to sort it all out but he can't unless she tells him what's wrong. Tracy, however, is evasive and makes out that her mood is all down to someone attacking her dad. He's not satisfied with this and wants to know why she's so jumpy all the time and why she's never where she says she's going to be, and he wants to know why she wanted him to give her an alibi in the first place, he's sure she's hiding something. "Until you tell me what it is, I can't do this," he says.

David has called on Shona to collect the dog. She's cool as he manages to get Doggy David out from behind the tv, and gives him back his keys as he leaves.

Adam and Daniel are in the Bistro waiting for Peter. When he arrives Adam tells them he thinks it was Tracy who hurt Ken.

Fiz is in the Rovers waiting for her friend, when Tyrone comes in. He goes to the bar to join Freddie who asks who Kim is. Tyrone is just telling him that she's a girl Fiz has known for ages, when Kim walks in, about 6ft tall and very male!

Gail goes to see Shona who tells her that Pat saw her at the Young Offenders yesterday. She doesn't know how much longer she can keep lying to everyone. She says that all she wants is for Gail and her family to leave her alone.

Pat is talking to Tracy, who is querying his bill. He tells her he didn't mean to charge for two worktops, it was a clerical oversight. Tracy doesn't believe him, but just then Amy comes in and Pat leaves. Amy wants to talk to Tracy about something, but Tracy tells her this is not a good time, and wants to do it later. She then tells Amy that she and Luke have split up because he thinks she might have had something to do with Ken's accident, and she adds that Adam going round mouthing off isn't helping. Amy hugs her and says everything is going to be all right. She asks why Phelan was there and Tracy tells her that he had fitted the wrong worktop but then fitted the right one on the night Ken was attacked, but has charged for both.

Craig goes into the tanning salon to see Bethany, but Nathan isn't too pleased to see him and butts in on their conversation. Eventually he drops hints, so that Craig leaves. When he's gone, Nathan does his best to put her off seeing Craig again. He tells her he saw how Craig was looking at her, he's besotted, and advises her to keep her distance.

Back in the Bistro, Daniel asks Adam if he thinks Tracy pushed Ken down the stairs because he cut her out of his will. Peter asks how Adam knew what Ken had done, and he tells them that Tracy told him. He then tells them that Luke gave her a false alibi, Tracy wasn't with him when it happened. "Where was she then?" asks Daniel. "That's the million dollar question," says Adam.

Amy goes into a phone box and calls the police. She tells them that if they check the kitchen worktop and find Adam's fingerprints on it, it means he was lying when he said he wasn't there.

Craig goes into the pub and tells Sarah he went to see Bethany and she seems ok.

Tyrone and Freddie are sitting with Fiz and Kim. Tyrone isn't best pleased to see Fiz very friendly with a handsome young man, and starts making tactless remarks about his name. Kim, however, gives as good as he gets and makes a remark about Tyrone's name. It seems that Kim lectures in antiques at the college, as well as buying and selling a few and making some money at it.

David is at home when Bethany comes in and asks David to tell her mum that she's going to be staying at a mate's. David wonders if she's really going to be staying at her geriatric boyfriend's, he doesn't think her mum will be best pleased. Bethany tells him she's just going to have to get used to it.

Tracy goes into the deserted gym with a torch, calling out and asking someone to show themselves. She announces that because of them she's just stuffed up another relationship. "Go on then, say something," she says, as a dark figure approaches. The man pulls back his hood and we see his face. "I suppose a bunk up's out of the question then?" he says, and we see that it's Rob Donovan!

Anne Logan

Friday 21 April

We begin with a view of the street, a taxi and the dead gym. Inside the gym, we see Rob wake screaming with pain, grabbing his leg and popping some painkillers. Nope. No idea why nobody hears him.

Ken's in Roy's flat, looking up films on a new website he's subscribed to and resisting all hints that poor Eccles might like a walk. It seems he's determined not to set foot outside the flat.

Tyrone, Kirk and Fiz are in the backyard, with Fiz trying to hang out the washing while Tyrone explains the money-making theories behind the pile of junk he's accumulated. Fiz just wants her yard back. She thinks her friend Kim would know about prices for junk. And when a rusty piece of metal stabs her in the leg and ladders her tights, she angry. She and Tyrone have a bit of an argument about who is going to look after the kids tonight. It's Freddie's leaving do at the Rovers but Fiz has her massage class.

As Bethany cooks breakfast wearing not much other than a shirt of Nathan's, he takes a picture of her and sends it to his mate. As Bethany ignores a phone call from her Mum, Nathan gets a reply which says just, "My turn next."

Sarah leaves a message for Bethany to call her back immediately. David tells her Bethany is 16 and can do what she wants. "You're her uncle. Where's your sense of responsibility?" Sarah asks. David points out he's currently feeding her small child. He reminds her that she encouraged Bethany go go on the pill and she was four years younger than Bethany is when she got pregnant. "Yeah, well, I don't want her making the same mistakes I made," says Sarah.

As they open the garage, Tyrone moans to Luke about "perfect, muscly, minted Kim." Luke assures him that Fiz only has eyes for him. Adam comes over and starts verbally poking at Luke about giving Tracy an alibi.

Tracy comes out of the house and heads for the flower shop where Mary is waiting. She sees Adam talking to Luke. As they open the security grille, she asks Mary if she'll be OK on her own. She says she's got lots of running around to do for Ken.

Gemma's helping out in the Kabin for the day. She tells Rita it keeps her out of the pub. She's tickled pink when Rita tells her she's now got her own mug for Kabin cuppas. It's a Little Miss mug but I can't read which one. Freddie comes in but Rita refuses to service him and when he invites her over to his leaving do she refuses that, too.

In the abandoned gym, Rob screams again as Tracy changes the dressing. He tells Tracy she can't blame him for Luke dumping her but Tracy insists it's his fault. She's been lying for three weeks, thanks to him. She says Luke's not stupid and now she might have lost her alibi. Rob thanks her for saving his life and she says she should have left him in the ginnel and let the police find him. [I find this strange, because didn't we see Rob getting away in a car straight after Ken fell down the stairs?]

Mary's in the cafe telling Roy she's looking out some paperbacks for Ken. Roy thinks he's more interested in films at the moment. When Peter comes in, she has a go at him for letting Tracy do all the work helping Ken. Peter says Tracy's barely seen Ken and Roy says she's not upstairs. None of that stops Mary from accusing Peter of internalised misogyny.

In the factory they're talking about Sally and the trolls. Johnny says the best way they can help her is to work extra hard. Jenny ruins that by arriving and demanding that Eva come with her to see the silk fabric which has arrived for the wedding dress. Johnny points out that they both still work there and Jenny says it's nearly dinner time. "It's 20 past 11!" Johnny points out. Jenny tells him she's made "a tiny little bit of space" upstairs for her wedding corner. She and Eva go off and Sean comments that Jenny is a real Bridezilla. Johnny says he's steering clear of anything wedding-related.

Audrey's in the salon with her wrist in a sling. Freddie comes in and says he's in the doghouse with Rita. "Give her the money, you tightwad," says David. Sarah arrives as Freddie leaves. She wants David to look after Harry. The school phoned and told her Bethany's not been going so she's going to sort it out.

Peter and Adam's discussion about Tracy claiming she's been looking after Ken is interrupted when they find the police at the door of No 1. "Adam Barlow, I'm arrested you for attempted murder..."

Sarah arrives at the tanning salon as Bethany comes through from the back with a mug each for her and for Mel. Sarah tells Bethany she's coming home. Bethany says she's embarrassing her. Sarah promises a lot more embarrassment if Bethany doesn't come home right now.

Tracy's back at the gym. Nope. No idea how she gets in. She obviously doesn't go up the steps and through the front door so there must be some other entrance. She's got fresh bandages. She asks if prison is really so bad - at least Rob would get medical care and three meals a day. Rob says there are things he hasn't told her. "You grass me up and I'm a dead man." The phone goes - it's Peter who says she needs to come home - it's urgent about Ken. She leaves Rob and runs off.

In the factory, Kate arrives with lunch for Johnny. As the machinists go off to lunch they tell Kate about Jenny's upstairs wedding lair. Johnny snaps that that's enough. Kate asks if he's OK and he says he's got to be somewhere and will eat lunch in the car. He stomps off and Kirk, who didn't leave with the others, asks Kate what it was about. She doesn't know. The girls mentioned the wedding and he "just went off on one."

Tracy arrives at No 1 to find non-residents Peter and Daniel both there. They tell her Adam has been arrested. Daniel thinks the police must have some proof. Peter asks Tracy what she thinks, watching her reaction carefully. She says they should bring back hanging.

Rob limps around the gym packing his stuff.

Audrey goes to the Kabin to ask Rita out for a drink tonight. Gemma demands to know whether Freddie put her up to this. Audrey says no, it's about a drink in the Rovers. But Gemma reckons Freddie has spoiled the Rovers for Rita now. "It's like finding a plaster in your lasagne." Rita says it's clear that a hundred pounds means more to Freddie than their friendship.

Kate and Kirk arrive at the pub where Eva and Jenny are in full-on wedding mode. Jenny asks them if they've seen Johnny and they say they haven't. Jenny asked him to help with the seating plan but hasn't heard a word. "It makes you wonder why he bothered proposing in the first place," she laughs. Kirk quietly asks Kate if she thinks Johnny's gone off the idea of marrying Jenny.

Sarah's brought Bethany home and they're having an argument. David can't get a word in to find out whether they both want fish fingers for tea. Bethany tells him to shut up. Sarah says Bethany can go and work with David in the salon. "Is this punishment for me or for her?" he wants to know. Bethany stomps upstairs.

Adam tells the police that Tracy's alibi is full of holes. They tell him about his fingerprints being on the kitchen counter, which had only been install the day Ken was attacked. "If you'd not been there for a few days, how on earth are your fingerprints on this counter?" Ooh, good point!

The end.
Margaret Carr

Good evening. I shall try and keep this update a little shorter than normal. It is episode 9148. The episode was written by Damon Alexis-Rochefort and it was directed by Gill Wilkinson. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios to whom many thanks.

Adam has been taken to the police station and we see him sitting in an interview room. No doubt he will be saying "No comment" again soon.

Bethany is apologising to Nathan for Sarah coming to the salon and dragging her out. Nathan makes light of it and also runs down the concept of schooling for a talented vlogger. Nathan offers to go and have a word with Sarah.

Tracy enters the gym where Rob Donovan is hiding. He wants to know if she has dobbed him in again. Tracy says she has had weeks to do that. She says that Adam is helping the police with their enquiries, so it does not matter she no longer has an alibi (she was hiding Rob at the time Ken was "pushed"). She gives Rob some chewing gum because he has bad breath - being a bit short of toothpaste. And now we hear Rob's story. he was not just being moved to another prison. He was being "hidden" from a group of prisoners and guards. Apparently the group could do anything - phones, drugs etc. He blew the whistle on them because it was the right thing to do. They took his cellmate and beat him so he could not walk, because he would not play ball. Then the lad tried to hang himself. Rob prevented it. The Governor questioned him and Rob told him the truth. So he was being transferred for his own safety. Rob also tells Tracy that he thinks the gang arranged the crash - but it was worse than expected and Rob was able to escape with the driver killed - probably in on it. The van went in the river and Rob was able to escape. Tracy has seen nothing on the news about the accident. Probably the gang thinks he have drowned and the police as well. Rob has used his weeks in the former gym to realise that he and Tracy were good together. She agrees, except he then bashed in Tina's brains. he has had nightmares about that and does not know how he could have done it; he must have been out of his mind. He reckons the two of them could have had it all. House, kids. Tracy stops him. He says they have a connection. She gets up and tells him to stop making out they are Bonnie and Clyde. She is a knackered single mum with a flower shop and he is a fugitive with a gammy leg. She refuses to calm down. She says she could go back to prison for helping Rob and now might have the cast of the Sopranos after them based on his story. She is worried that she and Amy could be in danger. She tells him to go to the police and turn himself in as she cannot help him any more. She goes as Rob tells her that if he goes back inside the gang will kill him.

There is a large group waiting to see Freddie in the Rovers. Audrey says he is not answering his phobile moan. Kirk is trying to get Kate to join him and Ty at a car boot sale at the weekend. Kev went to one once, parked his car the wrong way round and sold his engine (stop me if you have heard it before tonight). Kirk says that happened to Ty and Kate dissolves in laughter as Kirk has still not got the joke.

Nathan comes in for the word with Sarah. He denies that he knew about Bethany skipping school. Nathan says he has never stopped telling her about her exams either. He wishes that his mum had nagged him about school as he regrets not going to university. Sarah wants to know what Bethany is doing whilst she lives under her roof and she was worried when she did not come home. Nathan nods as he thought Bethany phoned home. Nathan hints that Bethany's problems might be something to do with Gary and that Bethany is simply keeping out of their way and does not to cramp their style. She appreciates Nathan coming to see her - but she really needs to know what her daughter is doing as she is only 16. Nathan nods agreement to Sarah's requests that Bethany goes to school and keeps her informed. Nathan goes.

Outside he crosses the Street and mimes shooting himself in the head with both hands to Bethany. He asks her how she lives with that. He tells her that Sarah considers her just a kid and that school comes first whilst she is living under Sarah's roof. Bethany says it is David's roof. Nathan asks Bethany if she has a problem with Gary. Bethany denies it - but Nathan uses it to play up how unreasonable Sarah is being. He asks Bethany to move in with him.

Peter is on the phone trying to find out what has happened to Adam. He gets nothing from the police. Toyah says the police must have new evidence to justify questioning Adam. Toyah is certain the right person will go down in the end. She assures him that getting banged up on the word of a sad obsessed nutcase will not get him out of night feeds and nappy changing when the baby comes. They agree they are in it together.

After the break Freddie comes into the Kabin to see Rita. He apologises quite beautifully and hands over £100 and a poster of when Rita Littlewood performed at the Zambesi Club. She is mollified and says she will put the money behind the bar at the Rovers for his farewell. Rita says the poster is the most wonderful thing anyone has ever done for her.

At Peter's flat he, R'Toyota and a solicitor, called Joanne, discuss recent events. Peter tells the complete truth including the kiss with Chloe. Toyah hides her annoyance.

Tracy finds Amy eating dinner at Number One. Tracy tells her daughter than the police have arrested Adam. About time according to Amy - she rang the police as she knew he was in the house the night it happened and that he had lied. Tracy wants to know how Amy knows this - but does not get a straight answer, Amy claims he heard Adam on the phone saying he was here. Amy reminds her mother that she says if someone is trying to hurt you then you've got to hurt them right back.

Freddy goes to see David, he says he cannot face the farewell party. David summons the children and Freddie tells them he is leaving and how much of a comfort Kylie was to him after his wife died. And he will never forget that. Max says he and Lily talk about Kylie regularly. Freddie tells him to keep doing that and he cuddles both of them. He gives David a letter for Audrey. He tells David to keep out of trouble, but the latter makes no promises.

Joanne has gone and Toyah is furious that Peter had not told her about the kiss. And she does not want the gory details when Peter tries to explain. Toyah tells him to go and see Ken; she is going to have a long bath and she needs some time on her own.

David conveys the message that Freddie is not coming to the group in the Rovers and hands Audrey the envelope. She reads it.

At the bar Jenny is discussing the wedding with Eva and Kate marches up to Jenny and says that this wedding planning is all a bit much for Johnny. Jenny says he does not seem interested in it very much. Eva observes that Aidan's idea of a perfect wedding would be a quick pint in the Rovers, chippy tea and a quickie at home. Jenny turns back to Kate and asks her to be her bridesmaid. Kate is astounded. Sarah's phone rings - it is Bethany. Kate accepts the offer and Jenny cannot wait until they are a proper family. Sarah goes into the hallway as Bethany is not making any sense. We switch to Bethany on her mobile where she is telling Sarah that it is not working out at David's (Nathan is hovering in the background listening intently) and she is old enough to make her own decisions. Bethany goes on that Nathan told her what Sarah had said about her being jealous of Gary (which Sarah attempts to deny). Nathan tells Bethany to stay strong. Bethany tells Sarah she is not a kid, she is moving in with Nathan and Sarah cannot stop her. At the other end Sarah is disconsolate. Bethany says she will come and see her and Harry but she needs to this (Nathan is nodding violently in agreement) and she ends the call before Sarah can argue. Nathan says he knows that was hard and he is really proud of her for what she has done. Bethany is crying.

Sarah rushes out of the Rovers saying she has a family emergency. She passes Fiz coming in - but still no Freddie. Audrey says the letter is a bit personal and refuses to disclose the content to Rita. Rita reveals that Freddie gave her a present before his departure - but refuses to tell as it is personal. Audrey is jealous of the present! Ty is not entirely happy with Fiz and Kim - her old friend. Fiz puts it right by telling Ty that when they get home she will show him what she learned at her class this evening. Ty cheers up instantly, he denies being jealous.

Peter is at Roy's flat seeing Ken. He tells Ken that Adam has been arrested. Ken wants to know what the evidence is - but Peter does not know and the police are not telling. Ken wishes his memory would return. Peter felt that Ken should know. Ken does not understand how Adam could hate him so much. And the closing shot is of a tortured Ken worrying about his grandson.

Roll credits.

Rob has had time to think over recent weeks. So I am not sure I buy the story he told Tracy - and I am not sure she does at the moment. Whatever the circumstances (driver and prisoner dead in prison van crash) I am sure it would appear on local news stories - these days our local interest groups on Facebook ask questions about police and ambulances appearing. And people photograph everything.

Next week I believe the Bethany story gets pretty nasty. In the UK Bethany (aged 16) is entitled to sleep with anyone she wishes and can choose to move out of her home - and there is nothing parents can do if Bethany can demonstrate that she is in a safe environment and can support herself financially. Proving her environment is unsafe is difficult to third parties - and Nathan of course shows one face to Sarah and another to Bethany and keeps the two apart - we now have laws on coercive control, however proof is pretty difficult.

And finally - just what is wrong with Johnny. It looks serious and I hope that he is not leaving us.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard

Rob is still hiding out in the gym. There's a close call when Dev turns up outside but he leaves again. In Number 1, Tracy seems to be a bit on edge and ends up giving Amy a cuddle, though Amy feels a bit claustrophobic. Tracy is curious as to why Amy didn't talk to her before calling the police regarding Adam's fingerprints. Amy is adamant she overheard Adam say he was in Weatherfield the night of the attack and then tells Tracy she hates her grandad because everyone has been fighting non stop ever since he was hurt. She also thinks he was mean not to give Tracy the money for the shop. Tracy assures Amy that Ken adores her but it's like water off a duck's back and she goes off to school.

In the jail, Adam has not had a comfortable night. He tells the guard he's ready to talk.

Over at the cafe, Roy and Brian are trying to cheer up Ken who's very upset to find out Adam was the one that attacked him. Roy reminds him that he spent a year looking after Adam. Ken is blaming himself for alienating Adam to that point. Brian reminds him that things are improving with Peter at least. Ken wants to find out for sure so he can make things right with the rest of his children.

Dev comes into the cafe where he finds Aidan at a table and teases him about his vehicle, a gas guzzler. The two of them take the mick out of each other's choice of vehicle in a good natured way. Brian reminds them all there is a pub quiz tonight. Aidan and Dev both rise to the challenge.

Sarah hates that Bethany has moved out. Gary thinks they should go round and see if they can tell that he's manipulating her. Sarah thinks that's a good idea but they need to be careful. Gary bemoans the fact that he can't knock Nathan into next week. He assures her he can be cool, calm and collected.

Over at Nathan's, he's brought in some booze. Mel puts it in the fridge while Bethany is looking forward to the party.

Tracy goes to the gym to find Rob. He thanks her, knowing he outstayed his welcome. She's brought him a radio, ear buds and a scotch egg which he sneers at. He also wants a phone and is going to try to make arrangements to leave. He asks if the police are still questioning Adam. She looks worried, knowing she doesn't have an alibi. Rob thinks Adam is probably guilty. She sort of agrees, as if she wants it to be true. Rob agrees his timing is lousy, bringing all this on her and he looks as if he wants to move in for a kiss maybe but she backs away, explaining it took a long time to get over him and he'll be gone again soon. She adds that all the "happily ever after" stuff would have been amazing.

Todd and Billy are looking forward to a free afternoon, a duvet and a dvd when a man comes up behind him and surprises him. It's Drew, a very old and dear friend come to see him. They all go inside.

Adam is telling the police that Amy was going to leave him money which wasn't where she said it would be. He left by the kitchen door which is how his fingerprints got on the worktop. He admits he heard his grandfather upstairs but didn't want to see him or be seen. He said he was in the house at about 8 for a few minutes. The police don't seem to believe him but he points the finger at Tracy for not having the alibi of being with Luke that she told them. He repeats he was in the house to get the money Amy left him and they should ask her.

Peter is sad to see his father look vulnerable. He tells Toyah that his father plans to make up with Tracy, too. Toyah still seems to have a bee in her bonnet about Peter kissing Chloe. He insists it was barely that. She reminds him that they have to be at the IVF clinic when he talks about seeing his father again. He'd forgotten. She's a bit churlish about it, putting the IVF above all their other problems as far as importance goes. He suggests that they should put off the IVF just a little, just for now but she gets upset and storms out.

Amy comes home after school full of gossip from class. She finds Tracy looking at brochures for mini-breaks, suggesting the two of them go away somewhere in the summer. There's a knock on the door and the police are let in to talk to her about Ken.

After the break, it is clear she's denying everything Adam told them about her, there was no phone call, no money. Tracy declares Adam a liar and a cheat. Amy thinks Adam's losing it. Tracy gets upset when the police gently remind Amy that they will be checking her mobile phone records and makes them leave. They will want to speak to Amy again. Tracy says she'll be taking legal advice. After they leave, Amy turns on the telly but she looks kind of scared.

At Nathan's, the guests are milling about. His friend Neil likens Bethany to Gwen Stefani. Nathan sends Bethany and Mel to tidy up in the salon but gives Bethany a strong drink before hand, insisting she down it in one. The women go off, leaving Neil to give Nathan the third degree, worried that Bethany won't go along with the plan. Nathan promises to sort things. They talk about a woman named Beckah who may be giving them trouble in Newcastle. Nathan suggests they move her again. Neil tells him to sort it because they can't afford any more mistakes. That sounds ominous!

Peter finds Toyah in the pub back room on a break. She's been avoiding his voice mails. He promises he still wants to have a baby but not with all the aggro going on. He wants to wait until the assault charge is dealt with. She is upset and worried and makes him promise there was nothing else with Chloe that he needs to tell her. Peter wants to be with her the whole time they do the treatments and wants not to be an absent father so he begs her to put the embryos on ice, literally, until things have settled down and they know what's going to happen. It's a big thing to ask her and she reluctantly agrees. She says she'll call the clinic herself. They kiss and cuddle.

Drew is having a nice chat with Todd and Billy. Turns out Drew has a daughter called Summer who is Billy's goddaughter. Todd is surprised Billy hasn't told him. Drew tells them he's relocating to Weatherfield. Then Todd finds out that Drew is also Billy's ex which further disconcerts him. He's not pleased to hear Drew say that Billy used to call him the love of his life. Ouch.

Amy is rifling through Amy's dressing table. She looks at herself in the mirror and picks up the one eyed teddy. She soon realizes it doesn't feel as squishy and cuddly. Why? Because there's a roll of cash inside him!

Mel and Bethany are in the salon. Mel doesn't want her to tell Nathan she's got a headache. Nathan then comes in wearing swim goggles, meeting over. He picks her up but the door opens and Sarah and Gary come in.

Tracy is in the gym again kicking things. She tells Rob the police were around to question her and Amy because Adam has told tales. She's worried about the effect all this has had on her daughter. Rob tells Tracy that Amy can rely on her mother and she'll be ok. Rob has called in some favours and he needs a car to get to the Peak District where he'll meet a mate who will take him to Scotland and from there, abroad. He'll live under the radar from there on. He apologizes for ruining everything and strokes her hair. This time she doesn't back away but he does. Briefly. They lean in for a proper snog.

Bethany begs her mother to leave. Sarah wants Bethany to go with her. Nathan thinks it might be a good idea but Bethany starts shouting at her mother who shouts back, accusing Sarah of not wanting her around anyway. Nathan starts saying some nasty things to Gary, insinuating that having a mother and a daughter is a man's fantasy. He gets a pop in the face for that, just as he intended, which drives Bethany even further into his camp and away from her mother's. Just as he intended.

Gary has unwittingly played straight into Nathan's hands. Nathan tells Mel to take Bethany upstairs for her own safety while a tearful Sarah tells Gary that her daughter will never come home now, thanks to him.

Now that Ken believes that Adam was the one who attacked him, he starts mending bridges with the rest of the family, beginning with Daniel. As they chat in Roy's sitting room, Ken admits he doesn't remember much of what's happened so Daniel reminds him that Sinead "lost" the baby. Ken tells Daniel that if it turns out Adam is definitely guilty he doesn't think he could ever forgive him.

Over at the police station Adam is still being interviewed and trying to prove his innocence. He asks if they've spoken to Luke and tells them that Tracy had a motive as Ken had cut her out of the will. The only problem is, Amy has denied having any contact with Adam so her version of events doesn't tie up with his. The policewoman points out that Adam has a motive and no alibi.

Meanwhile, in the disused gym locker room, Tracy and Rob are cuddling under a blanket having just re-ignited their flames of passion. But Tracy seems worried and Rob asks what's wrong. Tracy tells him it's everything, starting with her Dad and Adam, but Rob senses there's more.

Back on the street, Dev is in Prima Doner training up his team for a quiz night in the Rovers and he's determined that they're going to beat Aidan's knicker-stitchers. Kevin comes in for a kebab but when Dev hears Kev's on a rival team, Tim's Angels, he orders him out of the shop.

As Kevin leaves he spots the policewoman knocking on Luke's door and calls across to her. He tells her Luke's gone off to Portugal.

Across the street, Leanne comes along with Oliver just as Toyah gets out of her car. Leanne asks if she's been to the clinic but Toyah tells her sister there's been a change of plan and claims she's been shopping instead although Leanne thinks this is strange since Toyah is currently skint.

A few doors down, Billy is saying goodbye to Drew on Eileen's doorstep. Billy senses Todd is jealous but Todd is wondering why Billy never thought to tell him that Drew was an ex rather than just a mate.

Over at Nathan's the party is still going on. As Nathan examines his cut lip Neil tells him that he's risking a lot and says that he could go elsewhere. Nathan promises he'll "sort it". He goes over to talk to Bethany who apologises for Gary – she can't understand why he behaved like that. Nathan tells Bethany that Gary is an angry little man and she should stay well clear of him. Mel backs him up while Nathan tells Bethany that if she was to go back home, that would be it for the two of them as Sarah and Gary now hate him and there's no way they'd let them stay together.

Back on the street, everyone is settling down in the Rovers for the quiz night but Dev is upset that Brian has joined the team from the factory so he press-gangs Billy into making up the numbers for Prima Doner. Todd comes in, expecting to have a drink and a chat. Billy invites him to sit with him but Todd is still put out about Drew so asks to join Tim's Angels instead. Liz picks up the Corrie clipboard - the same prop they use every time someone has to look busy and/or important in a meeting - and asks if everyone's ready to begin the quiz.

We return to the gym where Rob is trying to reassure Tracy that now they've arrested Adam all her problems at home will be sorted. But what if he didn't do it? Tracy finally admits what's worrying her – she now believes Amy is the guilty party.

Rob is shocked by what Tracy's just told him. He can't believe Amy would have attacked Ken but Tracy is sure and blames herself. After all, she hasn't exactly been the best role model. Rob asks what she's going to do about it. Tracy says she would never turn in her own daughter. But Rob's more worried about how he's going to get away – he has to be out of there by Friday he says. Tracy accuses him of only caring for himself. Rob tells her he does care, he's never met anyone else like her, and if only things were different … Tracy leaves without another word.

Gary and Sarah are arguing about Bethany. Gary's approach is to use his fists whereas Sarah believes they should try treating Bethany like an adult and then, she hopes, Bethany will see Nathan for what he is and come home. Gary apologises for making things worse and they hug.

Toyah is round at Leanne's and she has a confession to make. She wasn't really out shopping earlier, she was having her embryos implanted. Leanne is shocked – Peter said it wasn't the right time and Toyah's lied to him. But Toyah shrugs – she wants to have a baby, whatever the consequences.

We return to the Rovers where Sally has decided she can't face being out any longer and is going home for a bath and Todd is still in a strop about Billy's ex Drew turning up. Liz calls for order and announces the results of the quiz – it's a tie between 'The Dev Stars' and 'All Sewn Up'. Cathy and Brian are nominated to answer the tie-break question for their respective teams. Dev is thrilled when Cathy gets the closest to giving the date that Shakespeare died. But Brian is an ex headmaster – could he have deliberately allowed Cathy to win?

Tracy is at home on the computer. She appears to be looking at remote holiday locations.

As Brian and Cathy leave the Rovers together she tells him she knows he allowed her to win. Brian says maybe he did but it would be good for Dev to see what an amazing employee he has. They stop, look into each other's eyes and lean in for their first kiss. Just as their lips are about to meet, Gemma comes barging across the street and spoils the moment. They awkwardly go their separate ways.

The scene moves to Nathan's where he is appearing to be loving and caring towards Bethany. He sends her off to have a bath and then goes to find Mel who is looking extremely uncomfortable. He asks her what she thinks but Mel refuses to be drawn. Nathan tells her that he thinks "our girl" is ready for the next stage. He orders Mel to go home and get her beauty sleep because tomorrow is a big day. Mel doesn't reply.

Tracy returns to Rob. She's got him a phone and tells him she's been doing some research of places he can go and suggest the Peak District. But Rob needs a car to make his escape and somewhere more remote than that. The Galapagos would be good, without the lizards he jokes. He fantasizes about the two of them having their own island together. But as far as Tracy's concerned, it's not such a fantasy. Rob looks shocked as Tracy suggests that she and Amy should go with him.

Wednesday 26 April

Nathan tells Bethany that the salon hasn't been doing too well and he's having some problems with the bank. He's going to meet some suppliers later to see if he can sort something out, although his fat lip doesn't really help matters. Just then Mel comes in and tells him there's someone on the phone downstairs who wants to talk to him about a late payment. He gets up to go and talk to them.

Rosie is sitting on the wall outside her house, fiddling with her, unaware that she's being watched by Leah.

Drew arrives to see Todd, he says he knows they didn't exactly hit it off before, but if he's going to move into the area he'd like Billy to see a bit more of Summer. Just then Eileen comes to see who is at the door and Drew invites them both for a drink later at 5.30 at the Bistro.

Rosie has gone into the house and got changed. She comes prancing out in bright pink overalls. Sophie tells her she looks like 'mechanic Barbie'. They turn round and see Leah across the Street and go over. She says she's come to see that their mum is ok, adding that her step-mum has promised that she's stopped posting on social media. Sophie wanders off, but Leah asks Rosie if Sally is really ok. Rosie tells her that she's still shaken up, but is generally ok.

Mel tells Bethany that she's worried about Nathan, he's stressing about the salon, and all the business with Sarah and Gary has shaken him up as well. She says that the bank are putting pressure on him, threatening to close the salon down. Bethany looks really worried, and declares that she must do something to help him. Just then, Mel gets a text message from Nathan, asking: 'Is she ready yet?' She suggests Bethany goes to put the kettle on, and when she's gone to do that, Mel replies to the text.

Tracy has taken food to Rob. He asks if she's had any luck getting a car. She says she's got the money and is going to look at one later, it's big enough for the three of them. He can't believe she's serious, he thinks it would be madness to take a 13 yr old on the run, but Tracy says she can't leave Amy there, especially as now she might be in trouble. Rob points out that all Amy's family and friends are there, it wouldn't be good to take her away, she wouldn't even be able to phone them whenever she wanted. Just then Tracy gets a message calling her to Ken's, so she kisses Rob and leaves.

Bethany is on the phone to the bank, checking her balance, she tells Mel it won't be much but she must do what she can to help Nathan. Mel checks her phone and says she has to go down to the salon, and leaves. Just then the doorbell rings so Bethany answers the intercom. A male voice tells her he's Mike, one of Nathan's friends, he's come to pick up some stuff. She presses the button to let him in.

Eileen and Todd are in the Bistro with Drew, who asks if Todd and Billy ever talked about having kids. Todd reckons kids are annoying, but Drew doesn't think Billy would talk like that. When Drew goes off to the loo, Todd tells Eileen that he's sure he's trying to split him and Billy up. Knocking back her glass of wine, Eileen thinks Drew seems like a decent, generous bloke.

Mike is taking all of the photographic equipment from the flat, telling Bethany that Nathan said he could, so then she offers him the laptop, for editing purposes, and he takes that too.

Tracy is enjoying a cuppa with Ken in Roy's flat. He doesn't feel ready to go home yet, but wants to talk about Adam, wondering why the police are keeping him but haven't charged him. Then Tracy asks Ken if he could tell the police that he didn't give Amy money for a new violin. He looks puzzled and asks why, but she won't elaborate.

Nathan arrives back at the flat and tells Bethany the bank refused his overdraft. She tells him that Mike came and took the cameras. Nathan seems horrified and shouts at her that she must be joking, she could not have let that happen! "Do you know what you've done?" he shouts in her face, "you let someone walk in here and rob me blind!"

Nathan is ranting at Bethany about the stolen equipment, telling her it was worth about 5 grand. She's very apologetic and says she'll make it up to him, but he's aggressive and angry and tells her to just go, he can't stand the sight of her. She goes off to get her stuff, and Nathan suddenly doesn't look angry any more.

Tracy is back with Rob, telling him Ken wanted to talk about Adam. She then gives him a present, a baseball cap and a scarf, she thinks if he wears them they could go out for a drink in town. Rob doesn't think they should take the risk , but Tracy thinks it would be exciting – and she then gets all flirtatious and tells him he knows how she gets when things get dangerous! He grins, he seems tempted!

Rosie and Sophie are in the Bistro, talking about Leah, they think there's something weird about her.

Tracy and Rob are sitting on a sofa in a bar, enjoying a drink. She tells him that if he plays his cards right his evening could get a whole lot better. He's worried because he reckons he's got a gang of psychos on his tail, and he can't go back to prison. They kiss and he tells her he's missed her, and she agrees that she's missed him too.

Bethany is huddled on the bed in the flat when Nathan comes in and admits he shouldn't have spoken to her like that. She says again that she's sorry, and he tells her the equipment belongs to Neil, he'll go off his head. He tells her she should go home for a bit, until everything settles down. She wants to stay there with him, she'll do anything to help. He tells her there may be one thing......

Back in the bar, Tracy tells Rob she doesn't want him to go without her. He doesn't think there's a choice, they can't take Amy on the run. Tracy thinks Amy might be better off without her, she might be doing her a favour. Rob reminds her that she wouldn't have any contact, she might never see her again. Tracy says she knows Amy would be well looked after, and she doesn't want to say goodbye to Rob again. This is their chance for a fresh start and she's not going to let it slip through her fingers.

Back at the flat, Nathan is explaining to Bethany that Neil really likes her and they might be able to use that to buy him some time. He suggests Bethany goes for a drink with Neil, and in the end she says she'll do it.

Friday 28 April

Hello,

Who's that skulking around in a baseball cap? What, it's Rob, out in the daylight and of course nobody will recognise him if he wears a cap. He's on the phone to someone called Tiggsy, explaining that there'll be two of them needing his getaway services. He ends the call and leaves a single flower where Tina died.

David's feeding Harry, which annoys Sarah because he's feeding Harry snacks which she bought so if Bethany comes home her favourites will be there.

Nathan rings Neil and assures him Bethany will be there. Bethany's had a thought - why can't Neil claim on his insurance? Nathan points out that Bethany opened the door and practically handed over the camera. He explains that all she needs to do is chat and be her normal self and Neil will realise she made an honest mistake. Plus Neil will get to be seen in public with a woman who is way out of his league.

Tim comes home and Sophie tells him about Sally's almost-panic attack. Johnny has told her to come in when she feels able. Tim tells Sally she's worth waiting for. Sally decides she'll feel better if she changes her clothes and goes upstairs.

David meets Sarah in the street - he's bought a packet of Bethany's favourites to replace the packet he opened. He assures Sarah that Bethany will eventually get sick of Nathan and come home. But Sarah thinks she has to give Bethany some reason to come home. She suddenly spies a "to let" sign and takes a picture of it on her phone.

David continues walking and sees Tracy. He congratulates her on the car she's bought, though doesn't seem to notice that Tracy slams the boot pretty fast when she sees him.

Todd wants to watch a film tonight but Billy plans to see Drew. Todd doesn't trust Drew but Billy says he doesn't have to trust Drew because he can trust Billy. Todd retorts that that's what Sean thought - making Billy slam out of the door in a huff.

Bethany's getting dressed but then takes off the high heels and puts her trainers on.

In the cafe, Sarah explains to Gary that if they get a place together and make room for Bethany to have her own space, she might come home. He agrees and suggests they put a double bed in Bethany's room, then Nathan can stay over. Sarah thinks the place next-door-but-one to the cafe would be ideal.

Sophie and Rosie chat about Sally. Sophie explains that she's had to cancel two dates with a new potential girlfriend and now that woman has blocked her. "I just feel stuck," she says. She doesn't feel as if her own life can move on while Sally's in such a state.

Steve's outside the pub when, whack!, he's served with divorce papers.

Bethany arrives off the bus just in time to see Gary and Sarah meet an estate agent and go into the empty place.

Bethany flees, bumping into Roy and Mary at the same time. Mary sees how upset she is and asks her into the flower shop to mop up the water that was spilt on her in the collision.

Drew knocks on the Grimshaw door just as Billy arrives back to fetch something. He can't stop because he's on his way to an assembly at Bessie Street school. He'll see Drew later. Drew is disappointed - he's got something he needs to tell Billy.

Tracy goes into the back room of the pub, where Steve's trying to get free legal advice from the internet, and asks him for Amy's vaccination records. She says they're due jabs at school. She asks Steve if Amy's all right and he thinks they've done a fine job of raising her. He hopes Tracy has a good weekend at Windermere.

Bethany tells Mary that she always thinks the best of people but always sees the worst. Mary anxiously asks if Bethany has been hurt by a man. Bethany explains that she's talking about her mother. Sarah always told her there was nothing that couldn't be fixed with a hug, but when she came back for a hug, she found Sarah was moving on without her. Never mind, she has someone who loves her. She hears the bus and races out and jumps on it. The bus pulls away just as Sarah and Gary come out of the house, commenting that there's no way the rooms are big enough to call it a three-bedroomed place.

Drew's on the phone to someone saying he hasn't been able to get Billy on his own because there's an interfering boyfriend in the way. The interfering boyfriend overhears the conversation.

Sally chats with Sophie and asks her about her potential romance. Rosie has given them a very strange story about where she is.

Actually, she's in Tim's van watching Leah's house. She sees Leah and another woman emerge from the house, hug and part ways. She leaps from the van and confronts Leah, demanding to know what she's doing with her Auntie Gina, Sally's sister. Leah just looks at her and Rosie seems to suddenly click. It's Gina who's been trolling Sally!

The two detectives watch Adam in his cell. Hmmm, maybe it suits Tracy to have Adam locked up, the female detective says. She's going to pay Tracy an unexpected visit, even if it is a Friday night.

Tracy and Rob finalize their plans. Tracy says Amy won't realise her mother's not coming back until Monday evening. They'll be well away by then. Rob tells her that if she decides she can't leave Amy then he'll understand. But Tracy says that if she disappears then everyone will assume she's guilty of leaving her father for dead and there will be no suspicion on Amy. She's tried living without Rob and it was only half a life. They're leaving at 9.

Bethany meets Neil in a bar, apologising for being late. He tries to calm her down and reassure her that they won't be stuck for something to talk about. offers her a drink. At first she asks for a coke but then asks for a Cosmo. Neil tells her he'll pay for all her drinks. Bethany laughs nervously.

The end
Margaret Carr

Good evening. This update was delayed by not being able to watch a whole week of Corrie because my wife was sunning herself on the Algarve. Sadly it rained on a couple of days! So when she returned we settled down to catching up. I warned her that Emmerdale was going to be a bit of a shock ("The Rape of Rhona") and that Corrie was going to be even darker (and I do not mean they are filming more night scenes). So this update comes with a warning that the content may not be acceptable to all - but was screened pre-watershed.

This is episode 9153, written by Jan McVerry, directed by Alan Grint. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Leah (Gina's step-daughter) is telling Rosie about Gina (Sally's sister) having been married to her father but they split up. Her father now works abroad and she is trying to keep Gina from misbehaving. Rosie threatens to go to the police if Leah does not ensure the trolling stops.

In a bar Neil (Nathan's "friend") is buying the drinks. Bethany says that if they are sticking to the five second rule she will explain about the video kit and proceeds to tell how she handed it over - she absolves Nathan of the blame. Neil is sympathetic - there are some nasty people out there (and the viewers take one look at Neil and include him in that statement, he looks well rough). He says that he and Nathan go back a long way (juvenile prison perhaps?) and they will not be falling out about it. Bethany is much relieved.

Leah is tearing into Rosie - Sally is not a freedom fighter, she is a phony. Leah reminds Rosie that Gina looked after Sal when the cancer came, but when Gina was ill the favour was not repaid - there was silence from Sally. Apparently Sally knew about it as Gina had told her. Sall was contacted several times and in return she sent a card with a rainbow on it plus "The Book of Calm". Gina has apparently been doing disappearing acts, conspiracy theories, spending sprees - which is why the ex-husband is in Qatar earning big money to pay off the debts of thousands incurred by Gina. And Leah is effectively babysitting Gina. Leah threatens that if Rosie goes to the police then she will go to the press about Sally. Rosie is confused.

Todd joins Billy at the bar in the Bistro. Todd recounts the phone call he overheard earlier by Billy's ex.

Tracy is looking at Deirdre's picture when Amy comes home. Tracy has been packing, but it is not for Benidorm - they are off to the Peak District. Amy rightly wants to know if there is wifi! Amy is told to pack books mp3 player, teddy and recorder but not violin. Tracy says it is because they need cheering up. Amy goes to collect her recorder from the Rovers and get some spends! She has to be back by 8:30.

In the Rovers Mary is telling Norris about Amanda Smith from the Golf Club. Apparently she was after Tracy and having her calls blocked so shouted at the monkey rather than the organ grinder! A big fight might ensue - "the Glowers in the Flowers" after the Rumble in the Jungle! Norris goes and Mary is able to tell Sarah about her earlier chat with Bethany. Mary thinks Bethany could do with some TLC. Sarah admits she is feeling lost without Bethany. Sarah reckons Bethany needs to make the first move.

Meanwhile Neil is spinning stories about Glasto to Bethany. Neil reckons they should get back to Nathan's as some of the boys are coming round. She asks about Neil's business and he says it is like Nathan's but he is on the investment side and security. He calls her a breath of fresh air and takes her home.

Drew finally arrives at the Bistro. He buys a round of drinks. Todd is not friendly. Todd goes on the attack making it clear he heard the earlier phone conversation. Drew says he can explain it. Billy says he and Todd are solid. Drew insists they wait until the extra brandy he ordered arrives.

After the break Drew tells them he is dying, right lung adenocarcinoma, secondaries in hips and shoulders and a black dot on his brain. (OK fine - but then why was he so nasty about Todd on the phone earlier - there was no need for that). Todd apologises for his antagonism. Drew has known for weeks. He has a few number of months left. He tells them that Summer needs a guardian; she is 12, selfie-mad, gobby, Little Mix on constant loop, generous, open-minded and full of hugs. Drew needs to know she is going to a good home. He rephrases that - to a family that shares his values. Todd asks after the other father - Charlie bailed after a year as he could not hack it. Drew says he has always tried to be a good bloke (so why the invective in the earlier phone call?). If he could get her settled then he could go in peace. He asks them to talk about it. (And I do not get why he wanted to ask just Billy - if they are a couple then both need to be asked). Billy agrees. Todd is looking totally disconcerted.

Neil and Bethany arrive back at the flat and another nearly all male party is in progress - only Mel present as well. Neil is obviously in a good mood and Nathan praises Bethany for dosing him on happy pills. Bethany reckons Neil is a pushover. Bethany agrees that Neil likes the sound of his own voice. Nathan kisses and reckons she has played a blinder in getting Neil onside. Nathan says she needs to stick to him and keep him onside as the bank will not be helping him. But Bethany clearly worked her magic on him! She says if she is getting bored she will rub her ear and will want Nathan to rescue her. He rubs his ear and agrees. He says once everyone she will have his undivided attention. Bethany is very pleased with herself.

As counterpoint in the Rovers Sarah again talks to Mary about Bethany. Mary explains Bethany saw Sarah and Gary earlier looking happy. Norris says children always upset their parents - he brought home a copy of Elvis's "Hound Dog" that made his father physically sick! Sarah is worried about Bethany and her living with a much older man and her drinking and not going to school. Sarah says she has tried everything - to no avail. Mary thinks Sarah should call Bethany. Norris voices a contrary view - the world does not revolve around Bethany. Mary shakes her head at Norris. Sarah is split between the two pieces of advice.

Back at the party Bethany is trying to get away from Neil - but he will not let her go. And makes Bethany sit on his knee - and he makes sure that Nathan sees it and the latter raises no objection. He nods approvingly at Bethany.

Rob sees the car that Tracy has acquired (an ancient Rover model) and reckons they will break down on the hard shoulder. Tracy counters that it is the perfect run around according to the auctioneer! Rob attempts to drive off - but Tracy says that is not on and puts him in the boot with a sleeping bag to make him comfortable.

At the party Bethany cannot hear Neil's wonderful stories so he ushers her into the bedroom as Mel refuses to turn the music down. Bethany rubs her ear in her agreed signal of distress; Nathan sees it but does not respond.

Rosie in pink pyjamas (her clothing deserves an article all of its own) tells Sophie she was right. They have to get this sorted for Sally's sake. She tells Sophie about going to Leah's and reveals she saw Auntie Gina. Rosie retells the story that Gina has had a "breakdown" and that Sally has abandoned her. They cannot tell Mum and Tim. Tim comes downstairs and has heard enough to know something is going on. The girls do not let on. They tell Tim a white lie but he does not believe them. He is not keen on them keeping secrets. They tell him that Beth was saying that Sally had sent the messages to herself. Tim does not believe the story. He goes and the girls know how much this will hurt Sally. And the factory girls "councilor Metcalfe trolled by her own sister."

Amy and Tracy are getting into the ancient runabout. Tracy gets Amy to play her mp3 player. She opens the boot and Rob whispers to tell her off for bringing Amy. He has been conned. She tells him he has no choice and shuts the boot and drives away from the Street and on the run. [PS No, I know that the police woman was supposed to pick her up when she eating her fish dinner and it is nearly 9 o'clock at night - perhaps the police of Weatherfield eat later than normal people].

Billy and Todd are now in the Rovers seeking doubles. Todd asks how God can strike down a 39 year old father. Billy tells him to stop being glib. Todd suggests they could work out a rota - meals, lifts to hospital etc. Both are sympathetic to Summer's loss. But then Todd swings - they know nothing about vulnerable children (a point Sarah hears). Sarah also hears Mary and Norris saying things were not better in their day. All stick, no carrot, children seen but not heard. Mary says they learnt fear - and for what? Norris spots she is still angry about Jude (and remember the way Mary was "groomed" is not very different in some ways to Bethany ... just a thought). Mary says that if her mother had cared more about her and not what the neighbours felt ... well then life would be different perhaps? Sarah grabs her phobile moan and is looking at Bethany's picture when Norris admits that he knows nothing as he never had children. Sarah retires to the back of the bar and calls Bethany. Mel spots the phone ringing and picks it up - but it is immediately taken by Nathan who rejects the call.

In the bedroom Neil tells Bethany she is stunning. She is not smiling and she is uncomfortable. Neil tells her that Nathan had said they would hit it off. Neil tells her she is better than other girls her age - she has a brain in her head. He moves in and kisses her neck - she grimaces and tries to move away. She reminds Neil that she is Nathan's girlfriend. Neil points out Nathan saw them walk into the bedroom together and tells her to relax. She says she is not that kind of girl. Neil says he knows - she has a brain and will go a long way. Five seconds is all it takes he adds, when you really want something. He puts an arm around her and lowers her onto her left side so she is looking at the camera. We see the dread in her face as he sweeps her hair away and kisses her ear. And then he counts to five; the camera closes in on just her face whilst there is movement behind and she starts crying, no doubt we are to think that clothing is being removed.

Roll credits.

Talk about being action packed.

Will Rob crack from having Amy on the run with him and Tracy?

Will Billy and Todd welcome an addition to the family (will Eileen build an extension?)

How will Bethany feel in the morning?

Can Rosie and Sophie get to the bottom of Auntie Gina trolling her own sister?

These and many more answers will be found in future updates.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard
