2017

Monday 3 July

Good evening. I am a little later than usual as there was no Wednesday episode last week. We will catch up with a Thursday episode this week and I expect to be back again on Friday.

This is episode 9198 and is the first sighting by me of the writer, Owen Lloyd-Fox, the director is Jordan Hogg. Copyright remains the property of ITV Studios to whom many thanks.

We open in the cafe where Robert and Michelle have had breakfast and Robert is dressed up to nines, wearing scent and his best shoes. Later today once he has been to the solicitor he will once again own a restaurant. At another table are Beth, Chesney and Sinead. The latter pair choose white and brown toast and keep talking at the same time. No harmony between them yet and Sinead suggests perhaps they might go into town, but is not enthusiastic. Chesney is underwhelmed and tries to hold her hand, she jumps about 6 miles backwards in shock. She says she is sorry, just taken by surprise. Apparently she is not keen on PDAs (heaven alone knows who uses personal digital assistants any more - it is all on the phobile surely?). Sinead tells Chesney to choose and book.

At the factory Eva can see Aidan laughing at his phone and guesses that her best friend, Maria, is texting him, even though he says it is a silly video on Facebook. Aidan tells her she is beautiful today - she responds she has been feeling ropey all morning (it is lunchtime according to the clock). He suggests seeing the doctor. His phone keeps sounding off notifications. She says she is going home as she is feeling sick and he agrees. As she goes she turns, Aidan has pulled the phone out of his pocket and is again laughing at it. She turns and if looks could kill the viewer figures just fell by about a million!

At Eileen's she returns home to find Pat looking through some old letters. He admits they were to / from Annabel. He puts them in his pocket - he is not trying to hide them but he is finding it hard to be open about everything. She is not too worried at this point as she admits to having love letters from her younger days which Pat will not be getting to read! She says they are pure filth! Todd and Billy come through the front door. Todd is working on Billy to go to the funeral of Drew even though none of his friends are invited. {By the way I believe it is good form to turn up. I can remember being immensely touched when arriving at my father's funeral to see a vast number of people I did not know who had come; he had run a sub-post office for nearly 20 years and many regular customers came}. Pat goes off to the yard, putting the letters in a coat pocket as he goes. Eileen, Todd and Billy discuss the funeral. Billy worries about the empty church and Summer thinking her dad had no friends. And then he agrees they should go to funeral. Todd takes him to lunch. As she takes her lunch Eileen eyes the pocket containing the letters and pulls the bundle out.

At Sally's Rosie is displaying a new blonde hairstyle and the usual load of rubbish issues from her mouth over how it has improved her training! Sal and Gina watch her! Gina has left Sally a little cupcake as thanks for lending her the money for electricity bill on the flat. The doorbell goes and it is a parcel which Rosie thinks is her pair of shoes, so she tears it open to find a plate with a picture of an "Otter Hound" - a rare breed commemorative plate - which Gina ordered for £79 - only £9 less than that famous electricity bill.

Adam returns and is walking past Preston's Petals which gives a chance for him and Tracy to exchange a few, hardly welcoming, words. Adam has moved back in with Daniel. Adam tells her they all have to move on. She calls them two psychos living in domestic bliss.

Sinead and Izzy are leaving the cafe - the former with a chocolate bar and a chocolate milkshake! She needs the chocolate rush. She sees Daniel chatting to Leanne across the Street. She tells Izzy they grew apart and she is well over him. Chesney sees her from the kebab shop and dashes out. She had forgotten about the date! She is tired - what about the Bistro? Chesney says NO. Yesterday a kiss was rushing things. Holding hands made it look like he was mugging her. And now she wants to eat where Daniel works. Chesney tells her that he is not a runner-ups prize. If it is not going to happen then she needs to be honest and tell him. He cannot take being messed around. Gemma shouts through the window of the kebab shop that if Sinead does not want to lose him again, she had better check herself before she wrecks herself!

Adam is outside the house he looked at several months ago - Roy observes that the rent has been reduced - but Adam already knows - he is about to start paying it. Roy reckons it will still be an expensive venture. Adam, noting Aidan in the distance, reckons that he will be coming into a bit of money very soon. Adam sends Aidan another copy of the picture taken in the ginnel with a message telling Aidan to be in the Rovers at 17:00.

At the yard Seb's case worker arrives - but it is not Nicola, she does not explain Nicola's absence, merely that the case is at least temporarily with her. Seb is not bothered, Pat is.

Along at the cab office Eileen holds a sandwich to her mouth for ages without taking a bite. Steve is in the ancient chair in the corner. She tells him about the letters - written by Pat which had been returned to sender. He signed off "All my love always" some quite gushing letters. Steve has trouble believing that Pat "gushed". Steve takes the sandwich off her! Steve tells her she is looking at this in too much detail. He wrote some pretty gushing letters to Wincey WIllis - which probably accounts for his failures with the fairer sex! Steve adds it was a long time ago and Pat will have moved on.

Sinead (her third visit of the day) and Beth enter the cafe. Teas and chocolate eclairs quickly please Roy. Beth makes it crystal clear to Sinead that she has to sort this out with herself and Chesney. Sinead says that she loves Chesney. She makes it clear that Daniel does not matter. Sinead thinks she has a future with Chesney. She is the one with the problem.

Adam is checking that Daniel is OK in the Bistro - not something he does that often. They part having shared a joke, both smiling. As Adam leaves Rich pushes his way in. Rich tells Michelle he wants Robert now. She says he is not in at the moment. Rich wants a lager. He sits at a table and seems less than relaxed. Daniel tells Rich quietly that they do not want any trouble and Rich just repeats that he wants Robert now.

After the break it must be 5pm because Adam approaches Aidan in a booth at the Rovers. Adam wants five grand by tomorrow. He will show Aidan as he deletes the original of the photo. Adam thinks it is a lot less than he might have demanded. Aidan agrees. Aidan backs it up by telling Adam that he would willingly pay a lot more than £5k to someone else to silence Adam permanently. Aidan departs. Adam smiles.

Chesney and Sinead return home. Sinead says that both Gemma and Chesney were right earlier in the day. She does not want to mess Chesney around. She says she is scared in case it goes wrong and she hurts him again. She says she is prepared to try again but if things do go wrong it will be nothing to do with Daniel. She is definitely over Daniel. And she gives him a huge kiss. Later Chesney admits that he was stressed before because he saw Sinead looking at Daniel. He tells her about his visit to Daniel telling him to stay away from Sinead. She is surprised. They are just going around in circles. Chesney says he has got to sort this problem. Chesney will go and see Daniel. If Sinead is over Daniel and Chesney needs to be over him as well - they need a fresh start - and he heads off down the Street.

Robert returns to the Bistro and spies Rich biting his nails. He sends Michelle to the cellar to get a special bottle of champagne he has in store. Robert approaches Rich who reveals he is in trouble. He also reckons that Robert has too much to lose. Rich tells Rob he needs the money sorted and he has run out of other options. Then he asks Robert if Michelle knows about Catherine. Rich will do anything to change Robert's mind.

At the cafe dozy Rosie is caught by Gina and the former tells her that Sally was not keen on the Otter Hound plate. Gemma has also seen the adverts for the rare dog plates in the paper! Rosie explains the confusion over shoes.

Leanne visits Eva who is in her pyjamas. Leanne says that she has not thought through this revenge - where is the bump? Doctor visits? 12 week scan? Eva is prevaricating when Aidan returns from work. He tells her not to be cross but he has got an appointment for her in 10 minutes time at the medical centre as there was a cancellation. She needs to be registered and the scans booked.

Adam is looking pleased with himself when Tracy wanders into the Rovers. He has the funds to start his new business. He has a proper business plan which includes a donation of profits into a savings account for Amy - providing Tracy stands guarantor. Tracy is far from sympathetic. He points out people give her a second chance - yes she answers because they are stupid. She isn't.

Eileen comes into the Rovers to meet Pat who tells her that Nicola has taken herself off of Seb's case. He has toyed with the idea of calling her. Eileen tells him they may be best respecting Nicola's wishes for now and when he puts down her business card Eileen picks it up.

Back at the Bistro Robert, in a very quiet voice tells Rich that the two of them and Catherine is a story long in the past. Rich has five minutes to leave. Robert stands up and tells Daniel to reduce the bills and tell everyone they are closing until evening service. He tells Michelle to take the special champagne back to the flat and they can celebrate there. All of the other guests leave. Rich picks up a glass and drops it on the floor blaming Daniel - Michelle challenges Rich. Rich breaks something else and is clearly working himself up. Robert and Rich stare at each other.

Robert tells Rich to calm down - but he is wired - high on something. Michelle makes it worse by saying she will call the police. Rich is going nowhere. Robert says he is high - but Rich makes his point by turning a table over and the he grabs a broken bottle by the neck and pointing the broken end towards Robert and Daniel who is backing him up. Robert grabs a chair and holds it in lion tamer mode driving Rich back towards the door. Robert keeps telling him to put it down. Rich tells Robert to take the money or people are going to get hurt. He looks at Daniel and Michelle. Robert tells him to leave and they will not call the police. At this point Chesney bumbles in through the door right behind Rich; the latter is surprised and turns pushing the broken end of the bottle into Chesney's chest just below his right shoulder. Michelle screams, Rich drops the bottle and runs out of the door. Chesney grasps his chest, sees blood on his hand and sinks to the floor. Robert tells them to call an ambulance and he rushes out after Rich. The closing shot is of Chesney writhing on the floor with blood flowing from his shoulder.

Roll credits.

So what is they story that Rich knows about Robert and Catherine? And where does this fit into the Robert timeline - post Tracy presumably and pre- Joni? Given that Robert stayed on in London after the divorce from Tracy is history being re-written?

How come Daniel and Adam made up so easily - a few weeks ago Adam was locking him in a car boot and arguing over everything under the sun?

I am not clear why Adam needs a guarantor - is it for the rent? He is not presumably taking a bank loan as he has the £5k from Aidan coming.

And what are ambulance and police response times - it is 30 minutes before the next episode, will Chesney have bled to death by then?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard

We've switched our order this week because there's an extra episode this week on Thursday to make up for last week's missing Wednesday, and this will keep us from getting confused. Therefore, I'm bringing you the update for Part 2 of Monday's Corrie.

Written by Owen Lloyd-Fox Directed by Jordan Hogg

We start off just after poor Chesney has collapsed. Rich has torn out of the Bistro, followed by Robert on his heels but he can't catch up with him. Back in the Bistro, Michelle is crying over the phone for an ambulance and Daniel is on the floor, trying to stop the bleeding. Daniel gives his phone to Michelle but Michelle can't get hold of Sinead who has just left the house and left her phone on the table.

Aidan has Eva at the doctor's, sitting right by her side. She manages to get through the appointment without a proper examination. The doctor says they can't do much until the 12 week scan. She seems to be taking Eva's word that the pharmacy test is definitive. Seems odd to me.

Chesney is awake and talking at the moment, he asks for Sinead and also for Katy's number so he can contact his son. He knows he's in serious condition. But he drifts out again. Daniel asks for another towel and starts wittering about old favourite movies, the Back to the Future trilogy. Daniel reckons BTTF3 is one of the best westerns in the past 40 years. Anything to get a reaction out of Chesney. Meanwhile, Robert is now running around looking for Fiz or Sinead, popping his head into the pub to have a look. Neither are there but Maria comes in. She admires Oliver but Leanne is cool with her. Maria orders two hotpots to go. Eileen is sitting, thoughtful, at a table and Steve goes to talk to her. She's still moping about the letters she found. He admits he wrote some passionate love letters to a television weather girl, Wincy Willis, back when he was young. You can't hold letters like that against a man who was young and foolish. His assurances that Phelan probably did love Annabelle back in the day but since she's dead, he can't do now, and he loves Eileen, don't really make a lot of sense to Eileen.

Gina lies to Sally about where she got the money for the otter hound plate, pretending she paid for it herself , having ordered it ages ago, and she has the 88 pounds to pay her back for the electric bill which she counts out for Sally. Something tells me there's more to this.

Adam comes into the flower shop. Mary is feeling a bit down but she cheers up for seeing him and asks after his business plans. He encourages her crush because she's been useful. This time, when her back is turned making them tea, he takes some of Tracy's paperwork and we later see him practicing her signature while on the phone assuring, the bank perhaps?, that he's got a backer, someone from his family who has a shop herself, just around the corner. Convenient, what?

Sinead is back from shopping and sees the ambulance and police at the Bistro. Robert comes around the corner and sees her and tells her Chesney's been hurt. She drops her bags and runs into the Bistro. She sees Daniel covered in Chesney's blood and immediately assumes he did something to Ches which hurts Daniel to the core. The paramedics have just taken over and she kneels beside Chesney in a panic. When he's later loaded into the ambulance, Fiz has also arrived and she and Sinead go in the ambulance.Robert tells Daniel that Sinead knows what really happened now (told off screen apparently) Michelle wants Robert to tell her what the real deal is and demands he tell her once he's finished with the police. He looks shifty.

Eileen has summoned Nicola to the cab office and finds out that she hasn't given up Seb's case, she was only in court which is why she couldn't see Seb. She hasn't decided what to do about "Patrick". Eileen admits he does want to get to know her or at least make sure there's no bad feelings. Eileen shows her a photo of Phelan dancing with her mother, looking very much in love and urges Nicola to give him a chance. But there's someone else in the photo, her father, looking on from the sideline. She gets angry and tells Eileen that she and Pat better leave her alone or she'll have the police on to them.

Aidan has bought Eva some chips. Maria spots them from in front of the salon and asks if they know what's going on re: the ambulance. Aidan sends Eva off and follows her into the salon to make an appointment for his father but he really wants to tell her that it was Adam that sent the photo of them kissing in the ginnel. He lies to Maria and says he's not broken off with Eva because she's very sick. Maria doesn't believe it. Outside, Eva is angry and decides to follow him inside so Maria switches to saying things about appointments. Eva is all over Aidan, affectionately, while Maria has to watch.

Robert hedges the story to the cops, admitting he knew Rich from a long time ago, as coworkers but hasn't seen him in years until recently. He has no idea why Rich came in today.

In the flat, Eva coos over the kitty. Aidan wants Eva to keep the pregnancy secret for now. Best to wait until they've had the first scan. We know he doesn't want Maria to find out, you see. As a bribe, he says she can have his online login to the internet. I think I want that kind of internet, where one login fits all. Buy baby clothes or something for herself but he warns her not to go mad. He kisses her and leaves. Eva's practically salivating!

We find out where Gina got the money. She borrowed it from Sophie. She's planning on paying her back in a couple of weeks and asks Sophie to keep her loan just between them.

Phelan's feeling down, he messed everything up with Nicola. He has a photo of just her mother that he wants to give her. It's unusual to see him so vulnerable. Not a blustery bone in his body.

Eileen has to confess that she thinks she's made things worse with Nicola.

Leanne really thinks Eva is going too far but Eva is determined to make Aidan pay and pay big, just until she would have to have the 12 week scan. Leanne urges her to spend a bit of money, cut up his suits and then move on. They have an argument about it and Leanne leaves, not wanting anything to do with it.

The ambulance arrives at the hospital emergency room. Sinead and Fiz sit in the waiting area, both frantic. Sinead admits she and Ches had a fight but Chesney went to patch things up with Daniel. Fiz does not look pleased.

The police finish talking to Daniel who washes his hands. He's a bit shaky. Robert asks what Daniel told the police. Daniel just told them that he'd seen Rich around the restaurant but didn't know him. Michelle comes into the kitchen and gives Daniel a hug before he leaves. Robert finally comes clean to Michelle with the whole story. Rich used to be his cocaine dealer. He and Rich worked in a restaurant and the long days had them turning to the drug to get them through. He thinks Robert is still doing drugs and Rich is clearly in trouble. He tells Michelle that Rich wants to launder money using the Bistro but he refused. He clearly hasn't told the police.

Wednesday 5 July

Written by Jonathan Harvey and directed by Jordan Hogg

Sinead has been keeping vigil by Chesney's bedside all night but takes her leave when Fiz arrives with Ty and makes it clear she's not wanted.

Back on the street Michelle is trying to get Robert to talk to her about what's been going on but so far his lips are sealed.

Meanwhile Eva's making the most of her "morning sickness" and tells Aidan she's going to need another day off. She also mentions she has a few deliveries arriving, including a new television she adds pointedly. Aidan kisses her goodbye and says he's going to be home late tonight.

Over at Preston's Petals, Todd and Billy call in for some flowers for the funeral. Mary's face lights up when Adam follows them in but falls again when the next person through the door is Norris. But he's only come to see if she's OK after hearing the news that Jude is staying in South Africa.

In Roy's Rolls, Tracy squirts tomato ketchup liberally onto her cooked breakfast as she gives Ken the gory details of the stabbing. He's impressed to hear how Daniel saved Chesney's life. Tracy reminds Ken how his son tried to end his but, as far as Ken is concerned, Daniel has now been redeemed.

Outside in the street Eva is taking delivery of the tv when Leanne comes along. Leanne still doesn't approve of the way Eva is behaving but Eva says she's already lost her fiance, she doesn't want to lose her too. Leanne gives her a big hug. All of this is observed by Maria who is watching from across the street. She assumes this can only mean one thing – Leanne is comforting her sister because Aidan has finally told Eva about him and Maria.

At the factory, Matthew comes out of the office following a meeting. To the amusement of Sean and the girls, he tells Jenny he's sorry to hear about her breaking up with Johnny then asks her out for a drink. She's flattered but tells him she doesn't want to dip her toe in the water just yet. So Matthew takes her phone and keys in his number so she can call him when she's ready to dive in.

Todd and Billy arrive at the church just behind Drew's mother. She instructs the vicar not to allow them in. Although the vicar's on first name terms with Billy he explains it's close family only and tells Billy might want to do something else to remember his ex-partner by – like plant a tree he suggests, awkwardly. Billy gives up and tells Todd they should leave.

Robert is finally talking to Michelle and it's a sad story he has to tell. His ex-partner Catherine, Robert and Rich used to work in a restaurant together. It was hard work and they got through it by regularly taking drugs. Life seemed great until Catherine overdosed and died. Although it wasn't directly his fault, Robert blames himself. And then, Robert confesses to Michelle, the other week Daniel also took an overdose and Rich gave him the drugs. Michelle is shocked by this revelation. Despite all of this Robert tells Michelle he couldn't have got through what happened before without Rich and, although something has happened to change him in the meantime, Robert feels as though he owes him. Michelle is appalled – the man stabbed Chesney. She tells Robert if he helps Rich then she's off.

Robert arrives at the Bistro to find it cordoned off with police tape and a crowd gathered outside. Steve states the obvious by pointing out that it's not exactly good for business.

Eva's settling down on the sofa to watch the new tv when Aidan arrives home. He manages to keep a fixed smile on his face as she tells him how she paid the delivery men extra to install it and take away the old set and then shows off her new ring which clearly cost an arm and a leg. Aidan reveals he has a surprise lined up for her – dinner and spa treatments and it's booked for today. It's for her and a friend and he suggests she could take Leanne. She and Toyah are busy, sighs Eva looking miserable. Suddenly her face changes. She tells Aidan she'll think of someone to take and thanks him for being so kind.

Billy and Todd are sitting on a bench in the churchyard. Billy is fuming. He says the funeral and the church should be open to everyone. Todd tells him it's about what Drew would have wanted and they decide they're going in. Despite the vicar's protestations they follow the coffin into the church and slip into a pew at the back.

Daniel arrives at number 1 following a text from his father. He's on edge and unsure but Ken tells him he always wants him to feel welcome there. They talk about how Daniel saved Chesney's life. Daniel admits to his father that he only got a 2.2 in his degree. Ken reveals he must have turned over a new leaf because he tells Daniel it's better than a 3rd. The two of them hug and it seems all is forgiven.

Gemma arrives at the hospital to visit Chesney while Fiz and Tyrone go off to the canteen for a break. She's like a mini tornado and the excitement wakes Chesney up. But he's disappointed to discover Sinead isn't there – he tells Gemma he thought they were back together.

Meanwhile Maria is doing Tracy's hair in the salon when Eva comes bursting through the door. Maria's surprised to see Eva looking so perky and even more so when she shows off her new engagement ring. Eva tells Maria about the spa day and, as her bessie mate and bridesmaid, she wants her to join her. David can't believe it when Maria says she'll go. But as Maria points out, Aidan clearly hasn't told Eva after all, so it's about time someone did and it may as well be her.

Over at the factory, everyone has received some post. Everyone that is, except Jenny. She's furious when Sally opens her envelope to reveal it's an invitation to Jenny and Johnny's wedding. Jenny tears it up, saying bitterly that it must be Johnny's way of trying to win her back.

Robert is all alone. He gets out his mobile phone and makes a call. He tells Rich he'll do it but just this once. He asks where he wants to meet. He hangs up and takes a deep, shuddering breath.

Out in the street Aidan comes along just in time to see Eva getting into Maria's car and the two of them driving off together. He asks David if he knows where they've gone. David replies that Aidan's mistress is about to tell his girlfriend how he can't keep it in his pants.

Thursday 6 July

Hi. I keep turning up like a bad penny. Annie will be back next week.

This is episode 9201 and comes from the pen of Jan McVerry, whilst direction was undertaken by Jordan Hogg. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We are in church with Billy demonstrating his strong singing voice as he and Todd stand at the back of the church for Drew's funeral. Drew's parents are not amused. Once the hymn has finished Summer is announced by the vicar as wanting to say a few words. "My dad thought he was the funniest man on the planet. I always said Russell Howard was funnier (no I have no idea who he is either). Dad would make killer mac and cheese on Saturdays. Summer preferred Jamie Oliver's. In the shower he would sing at the top of his voice and Summer would tell him he would never be Ed Sheeran (thank god for that as Ed S cannot sing). But when Summer got called a freak Her Dad went round and blasted the entire family. He was one man ... on his own." Her voice breaks. Drew's mother, Geraldine Spellman, says under her breath that she knew this was a bad idea. Billy tells her to keep going but Summer asks what he is doing there. She says it ruined anyway and descends from the pulpit to sit by her grandmother.

At the Spa a piano plays as Eva tries to put her bessie mate, Maria, off the idea of all the hen party horrors. Maria with guilt and worry written all over her poor face says she is glad that they have this time to be together. Eva agrees as she has so much to tell Maria, who says she has something to tell Eva - at which point both are surprised by the appearance of Aidan. Both want to know why he is there and he explains he heard that Eva was taking another person from the factory and had assumed it was Sean and would therefore need the credit card to book another room. Eva calls him amazing. She takes the card and goes to talk to a waitress giving Aidan a chance to talk to Maria. She calls him spineless for not splitting with Eva. Aidan looks worried.

Johnny and Kate return to the factory talking about money. Jenny is in a real mood and storms into the office after Johnny as Izzy declares round 2. She has a handful of wedding invitations - accusing him of sending them out so she will be putty in his hands. Well forget that. She re-iterates that the wedding is off and it is staying off. Even Kate realises this is "Awkward". And Johnny admits he forgot to cancel the order, having paid extra to get the supplier to send them out. Jenny wants the workforce told before they dust off their fascinators! Johnny accepts the situation.

Gemma is at Chesney's bedside in hospital. She is suggesting he has the scar enhanced by a tattoo. There is a knock at the door but Chesney is disappointed it is not Sinead when Michelle arrives with a basket of fruit. Ty and Fiz argue as she is refusing to tell Chesney that Sinead spent the night at his bedside. Michelle is sorry about what happened - Chesney thinks it is merely random - nutters everywhere and he got unlucky. Gemma starts on a banana with no shame.

In some dodgy car park Robert approaches Rich next to a huge Merc. Rich says he is sorry things got out of hand; Robert points out the lad nearly died. Rich could do without the heat right now. There are some men kicking a football around in the background. Rich says the police are sniffing around and they need to tread carefully. If Robert will launder some money it can be a one-off and Michelle won't even know. Rich promises that if Robert does what he wants he will be gone completely in a few weeks - permanently. They shake hands on the deal. Rich goes to get in the car and Robert asks if he can help with the pressure. Rich suggests he needs a boost to cope with the stress. They both get in the car.

At the cafe Mary gives Adam Barlow the Barlow-Grimshaw business cards she has had printed and she has already distributed some in various local public places where people looking for a solicitor might find them. Adam thanks her with a kiss and she takes a large hug as well.

At the church Todd still thinks they were wrong to go - but Billy does not want bigots to win. Todd notices the business cards for the new Barlow-Grinmshaw solicitors on the side. Strap-line "In IT to Win It". Specialists in personal injury, criminal defense and medical negligence. Where there's a blame, there's a claim. Todd denies all knowledge of any partnership. Outside they run into granny Spellman. She tells them bluntly that they are not the victims. Summer is and she does not want to see them. She sends Angus to look after Summer. Geraldine tells them that if they harass the family one more time she will call the police and then the Bishop. She stomps off.

Rich is obviously doing something unhealthy. He offers Robert another packet - but the latter responds that the one he has is enough. Robert says he does not blame Rich for Catherine's death - they were in it together but it is ancient history. Robert asks if Rich has more any more of the stuff and holds the packet high up so that anyone could see it. He is not sleeping as he keeps seeing the blood leaving Chesney's wound. Rich does not have it on him. The football hits the car which annoys Rich. He jumps out of the car and starts shouting at one of the men. A burly man appears behind Rich and pushes him down on the bonnet of the car "Richard Collis, I'm arresting you on suspicion...". More police arrive and Rich calls Robert a grass and threatens him and Michelle.

At the Spa Aidan has stayed for the salad lunch. He is eating goat's cheese which of course Eva cannot eat. She turns to Maria and says that as bridesmaid and best mate she needs to know that there is a baby on the way. Eva adds they could not be happier - but Aidan looks like he could! Maria does not quite know where to put herself.

After the break David tells Leanne that Eva is out for the day, with Maria. They have gone to the Golden Triangle and Aidan has gone after them but David thinks it might all be too late by now as Eva will have loaded the credit card. Leanne rushes off.

Maria wants to know why they have said nothing about the baby. Well as Eva says she could not lie to Maria any longer - she is not made like that. She wants the big day to be about her and Aidan and not the bump. Maria wants to leave Aidan and Eva to enjoy their good news. She assures them it is good for her to go. Eva says she is surprised that Maria is not more pleased for them. Aidan agrees and says he will chase after Maria and see if he can change her mind. Eva smiles to herself.

A nurse comes into Chesney's room and asks after the guardian angel. The nurse describes the little blonde with eyes like swimming pools who was there all night. Fiz looks uncomfortable. Ty tells Sinead was there all night and this morning. Chesney tells Fiz to stop treating him as if he was nine!

Outside the Spa Aidan catches Maria. She accepts the pregnancy was not planned but tells Aidan this is the end of the line for them. As they talk Leanne emerges from a taxi and sees them sharing a tender moment. Maria tells Aidan she had hoped they would have children but they are done now. Leanne cannot hear this but can see them holding hands as Maria tells Aidan it is important for the baby to have a father unlike Liam.

Jenny and Gemma are in the Rovers - the latter is taking her normally belligerent line! She tells Jenny to phone Matthew Singh. Jenny smiles and does just that. And soon accepts a date and is laughing again.

David, David and Mary are at the bar, the smallest one perched on a bar stool (so cute). Apparently Mary's high pitched voice, when she gets excited disturbs dogs. David the dog yaps at her!

Todd goes to his new offices to find Adam. Todd points out the card - and that Adam does not have permission to use his name. Adam says that Mary's cards are already attracting business - a client due any minute. Perhaps he could make the tea suggests Adam? There's no kettle! Out of shot we hear Summer Spellman turn up for her 2:45 appointment.

Sinead arrives at the hospital, looking as if she has never slept. Fiz emerges from Chesney's room and Sinead remarks at her surprise that Fiz phoned - as the latter explains Chesney wanted to see her. She enters the room and it is clear that they are pleased to see each other. She has brought some Arnica to aid the healing process and Ty is pleased to see them together again, Fiz less so.

Summer's phone goes - she explains she is at her friend Shola's - she is in fact explaining her problems to Adam with Todd hidden listening. She tells Adam that she wants to sue Drew' doctor as they let him die. Adam says that the costs of such a case can be very high. Todd emerges and points out that Summer is 12. She tells them she is not some little kid - she has a brain and she has money, or will eventually. Adam says they will see her properly - but she needs to bring an adult with her. Adam has her file - but Todd cannot see it until he joins the business. Todd sighs and bows to the inevitable.

Robert returns to a very worried Michelle in the flat. He explains that he met Rich - with some plain clothes officers - they have hauled Rich in and Robert needed to give a statement. Robert knew that it was either Rich or Michelle that had to go and he did not want to lose Michelle. She moves to hug him and then offers to run him a bath. She leaves the room and Robert's phone chimes. There is apparently no-one there and he simply tells Rich that he is not that easily intimidated and hangs up.

Leanne has managed to get Eva away from everyone else. She has just seen Aidan and Maria together. Leanne says they were not kissing but they were intimate. Leanne says she has seen him with her own eyes - cheating. Leanne tells Eva not to be sad - just get even. The two of them are going to make him wish he had never been born! In the final shot a grim faced Eva merely nods acknowledgement.

Roll credits.

Oh dear Aidan, your days are numbered.

Come on Johnny stop being a fool and sort it out with Jenny.

And Fiz just accept that Chesney needs the girl with eyes like swimming pools.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you shortly.

Richard

Friday 7 July

Hello,

We begin this Friday episode in the street, where Kate comes out of the Bistro and calls to Johnny just as Gemma and Jenny come out of the Kabin. Gemma tells Jenny to ignore Johnny - she's got Matthew Singh to look forward to.

In the cafe, Dev tells Erica he's cooking tonight and asks Anna and Kevin along - he says he's making enough for an army. Awkward. Kevin says they won't be able to get a baby sitter at such short notice but Anna contradicts him. She'd love a night off.

In their office, Todd hands his signed contract to Adam and Adam tells him Summer's address and phone number are in the file on the desk.

In the Kabin, Mary's looking for a Get Well card for Chesney and Norris is thinking about installing a panic button. Bethany looks very forlorn as she browses the magazines and Mary asks for her help putting together a "modern" bouquet.

Leanne and Eva are in the factory office and persuade Aidan to hand over his credit card so they can go wedding-dress shopping. Eva tells him his card is in good hands.

The machinists talk to Jenny about her date and Mr Singh himself arrives with flowers for her. Johnny comes past on his way into the office and doesn't spare her a glance.

Bethany has helped with the flowers and tells Mary she knows why Mary's being kind to her. She says everyone now knows just how gullible she is. Mary reassures her and tells her none of it was her fault. The judge and jury will see Bethany for what she is - someone who trusted the wrong person. It's good that Bethany will have a chance to have her say.

Johnny admits to Kate that knowing Jenny is going out with Matthew Singh is killing him. Kate urges him to do something about it. He should talk to Jenny and tell her the truth.

Todd's trying to persuade Adam to do something about the awful decor when Summer arrives. She's looking for someone to help her sue the NHS. Adam tells her he can't talk to her without a responsible adult but Todd offers to help.

Billy and Sarah talk about Summer. Billy thinks she must feel so alone. Sarah's phone rings. It's the policewoman who's dealing with Bethany's case. She's got something tell them and arranges to meet Sarah.

In the cafe, Erica's buying eclairs and takes a moment to show Anna the new dress she's got for tonight. Anna's alarmed to hear they will be dressing up. She hasn't go anything to wear.

Liz sees Johnny in the pub and sits down to ask him what's wrong. She wants to know what happened with Jenny. "I blew it," he says. They put their heads together as he talks quietly about his relationship. Across the bar, Gemma asks Norris what he thinks their body language is saying. Liz realises they're being watched and invites Johnny to continue the conversation in the back. Norris and Gemma almost explode.

The policewoman is at the Platts'. She breaks the news to Sarah that the CPS refused to pursue the case and the police have had to release Nathan. Sarah's horrified. "Bethany's going to be devastated."

Gemma finds Jenny in the Bistro and wastes no time telling her that Johnny and Liz are involved. "Johnny's a cheating scumbag and you deserve better."

Summer talks about her Dad and Todd listens.

Matthew Singh has to take a phone call and when he steps outside to do so, Kate goes over to Jenny and tells her it didn't take her long to get over Kate's Dad. "He dumped me," protests Jenny. Kate asks if she ever wondered why. If she ever thought of digging a bit deeper in the reasons. Jenny asks for more detail but Kate says it's not her secret to tell.

Summer tells Todd she overheard him talking about putting her into a children's home and knows he and Billy didn't really want her. Todd tried to tell her that he was making a tasteless joke at the time. She says it wasn't funny. She says that anyway, Todd can't take her it. He still lives at home with his mother. "I have my own room at Gran's.

Matthew Singh is back and asks Jenny why she broke up with Johnny. Though he admits he was surprised to see them together in the first place. Jenny gets up and tells him she won't be long.

Eva and Leanne turn up outside the factory in a bright pink SUV. Aidan comes out of the factory and Eva tells him they got distracted while shopping and bought the vehicle. It's OK, though, they've stuck it on the credit card.

Kevin doesn't understand why Anna's now saying she doesn't want to go out tonight. He's spent £9.99 on the wine and has got all dressed up and Anna doesn't believe his claim it's a casual dinner with friends.

Sarah tells Bethany about the CPS decision. She tells her they can talk to the police about it but Bethany doesn't want to talk to the police. In fact, she dislikes the idea so much she vomits.

In the pub back room, Johnny tells Liz he can't stand the thought of Matthew Singh drooling all over Jenny. Liz has just ask him why he dumped Jenny if he feels like that when Jenny rages in and shouts that this is why he dumped her - he and Liz were having an affair. Liz says she'll leave them to it and leaves the room. Highly unwise with the foul temper Jenny's in, I would have thought. Surely the murder trial will need a witness? But Johnny tells Jenny honestly that he dumped her because he loved her. He was trying to protect her. "I've got MS."

The end.
Margaret Carr

Good evening. Now back in my own timeslot after the recent shenanigans! This is episode 9203 and it was written by Julie Jones; the episode was directed by Jordan Hogg; copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We open in the back room of the Rovers with Johnny downing a whisky and Jenny grasping her clutch bag and phone defensively in front of her. She wants to know how long he has known about the MS. he says about a month and explains the events we have previously seen with Kate and Rana. He admits he did not tell her because he was scared of being seen as less of a man. Jenny, without explanation turns and says that she has to go. Johnny calls after her - but she does not stop.

Mary arrives at the Platts to return Bethany's phone left in the shop. Sarah tells her about the CPS decision, the lack of evidence and that the evidence of Bethany and Shona was inadequate. Bethany continues to blame herself. Mary says she took 30 years to speak about her rape - Bethany is much stronger. Bethany is aware that Nathan will be able to do it again to someone and else and wonders why she was chosen? Mary tells her that people like Nathan know how to manipulate people - but Bethany is not accepting the explanation and continues to run herself down; no-one can help her.

Tracy pops into the minging solicitors' office at 10 Victoria Street - one of the new locations being developed. As Todd is not a solicitor I am not sure how he can be a partner - but he is. She reckons the smell is a combination of damp, death and rat droppings. She has brought them a good luck card (but no air freshener). Tracy wants to know who stood guarantor - but Todd does not know (and of course we can only guess that Adam has faked Tracy's signature). Tracy is just getting used to collecting rent but of course Peter and R'Toyota will be moving to the Rovers shortly and she is not going to move into the flat as her income will fall. She does give Ken some money towards the bills at Number One! Todd has a bright idea and asks if he can look round the flat later (not sure why - he used to live there with Sarah of course). They discuss R'Toyota's need for a new wardrobe for her life as landlady. Her current cardigan is not good enough for Eccles' bed asserts Tracy.

Dev, Kev and Erica are finishing off Kev's rather good bottle of red wine. Dev is about to open another one when his phone goes. Asha has fallen out with Poppy on her sleepover and wants to come home - she is waiting for him. He gets a cab whilst Kev and Erica set about a tiramisu which is in the fridge.

Liz returns to the back room and admits she overheard his explanation to Jenny. Liz had an aunt with MS - some days right as rain and other days not so good. Johnny says he has relapsing remitting. He explains why he ended it with Jenny - he does not know how it will develop and wanted a wife, not a carer. Liz reminds him that none of us know what we sign up for when getting married. Liz tells him to tell Jenny the same thing and let her make her mind up. He nods.

The pink Range Rover Evoque returns to the Street parking outside the Rovers where Sean observes that Barbie has been on the phone and wants the car back. Aidan gets out of the back and tells Eva to take it back to the showroom. Aidan is sure they can find an excuse and it will not look good when he is on a business trip! Eva says they will see him as a fun guy in touch with his sensitive side. He trusted her with his credit card. She bites back on the subject of trust. They are supposed to be in a partnership sharing everything. Either he agrees or they do not get married. Leanne and Eva go into the Rovers and leave him to think about it.

Rosie is not helping Jack do a puzzle - she reckons all of the pieces should be the same shape it would be easier! Anna reckons it is a genius solution and smiles. Jack says that the puzzle is already easy! Rosie cannot believe Kev went to dinner without her. Anna says she just did not fancy it. Anna explains that Erica will be getting glammed up; she feels plain and dowdy, since the accident she has lost all her confidence. Rosie seeks to re-assure that Kev loves the person on the inside - but Anna is no so sure.

Jenny is using her phone under the table in the Bistro and Matthew Singh is doing all the talking. He asks her what she is doing and she apologises for being rude. She admits she went to talk to Johnny. Matthew thinks that Jenny is using him to get to Johnny - which she denies. She tries to leave the Bistro but Matthew grabs her arm and pulls her back, just as Johnny comes in. Johnny rushes forward and tells Matthew to leave her alone. Kate tries to calm him down but Johnny continues so Matthew pushes him off; Johnny responds with a decent right hook to Matthew's left cheekbone. Johnny is stunned by what he has done. Jenny stares at Johnny. Kate tries to apologise to Matthew for Johnny's unusual behaviour. Matthew says he will be taking his business elsewhere. On his way out he tells Jenny that she and Johnny deserve each other. Kate is glad that Johnny has told her the truth. Johnny apologises to Jenny for being a total idiot. She remains hurt by events - it is not easy to get over that. She is not sure they can ever get the trust back.

At Eileen's Todd and Billy are having a rather nice supper Todd has cooked with some red wine. Todd can feel his brain clicking back into gear as he went through some law books. Billy says that Todd must have been channeling Martha Stewart again. Todd says he likes it when there are just the two of them. Todd tells Billy that he thinks they should get a home of their own and Tracy's flat will soon become available. They agree to see it later.

After the break we are in the Rovers where the factory girls recount the goody bag they sent to Chesney earlier. Meanwhile Leanne and Eva discuss Aidan's face. he comes in and apologises to Eva for kicking off. Of course he trusts her. She points out he is the boss at work and the boss when they get home. She hates having to ask for money. She feels like she is living in the 19-piggin'-fifties. He suggests a joint credit card and after initially demurring she says that would be brilliant. He goes to get more drinks and Eva says he will not have a pot to piss once she has finished with him.

Johnny has explained all to Jenny in the Bistro. He had hoped despite being older than her that they would have a few normal years before the age gap made itself felt. He tells her Liz and Rana know as well as Kate. But not Aidan as he could not face the look of pity. Jenny says it will not be pity - it will be sympathy. She says it is a medical condition - not a weakness. And her vows were going to include "in sickness and in health". Johnny asks if she is still prepared to say that. She tells him to stick the ring back on her finger and she will! They are back on and Kate is pleased.

Tracy lets Todd and Billy into the flat and Todd notes it has been much improved since he lived there with Sarah. And it looks like the move is on - Billy is sad that they will not have Summer in the second bedroom. Todd reminisces slightly - looking back on living there with Sarah feels like someone else's life.

Anna has put Jack to bed and whilst she has been upstairs Rosie has made an old fashioned mood board for Anna - using cut and stick rather than doing it digitally as she would normally. She explains it to Anna. Anna thinks Kev will consider her a miserable so and so. Rosie tries to explain treggings (no me neither). Culottes? Crinkly skirts? Anna could really rock the boho chic vibe! Anna starts crying - and she had promised she would not let this get in the way again. Anna tells Rosie that she will make it up to Kevin and that Rosie must not tell him she was upset. Rosie says that tomorrow is the first day of the rest of their lives - a fresh start. Anna seems to cheer up.

Erica wants to know why Anna dropped out, she knows Anna is not ill as she saw her earlier. Kev cannot say - as Erica says relationships are a minefield. Kev feels like he is walking on eggshells all the time. Erica says it cannot be easy to live like that. Kev says that he suffers constant rejection and wonders why they are still together. Erica says she is stupid woman who does not realise how lucky she is. They briefly look into each other's eyes and then lean forward and kiss each other. And then again more seriously with arms around each other. A key in the door and they move apart as Dev returns with the children and some story about the fall out with Poppy. Kev takes it as a cue to go and check up on Anna. Dev shakes his hand and he goes, but not before Erica hopes they can get together again before too long.

In t'Rovers champagne has been poured and Johnny is saying "Cheers everyone!". Raise a glass to me and my future lady-wife. Jenny has a huge smile on her face. And in the time it takes to walk from Bistro to Rovers she has been on to the wedding venue, it is still available and she has rebooked it. And she has sent them catering details and so on. Liz reminds the factory girls that once they are married then Jenny will be half owner of the factory which removes a few smiles! Rana and Kate are once again together in a corner getting on far too well for a married woman and a lesbian. Kate invites Rana and Zeedan over for a whipped up stir fry. Rana goes and Jenny uses the opportunity to thank Kate for getting Johnny to talk to her. Kate says Johnny is his own worst enemy. Of course adds Kate one day he will need full time care and it could be a real tough ride. This seems to wipe the smile off of Jenny's face.

Sarah and Mary are still discussing Bethany's setback. Mary is sure there must be more evidence which can obtained. Sarah does not understand why Bethany will not talk to the police and provide more help. Then Sarah has a think. Mary wonders if Bethany is still trying to protect him - because of her love? Sarah is pretty sure that is not the case. Mary recalls her humiliation and wonders if there is anyone Bethany might confide in? Sarah thinks that if perhaps she got that nice Sergeant - what was his name - oh yes Neil, he was really patient and understanding and kind. Mary says it sounds as if they have found the missing link. Sarah agrees that he may be able to dig deeper and get answers.

Outside the camera zooms and pans down onto Bethany who looks at the cigarette burn on her arm and starts scratching the scab.

Roll credits.

The opening shot of Jenny and Johnny in the back room at the Rovers struck me as prophetic. Will they one day be the Queen and King of the Rovers? A real kickback to the days of Annie and Jack. Go on team - you know it is the right thing to do!! Please pretty please?

To my mind Rana is closer to Kate than she is to Zeedan - is this a good thing?

Adam should employ super decorator Daniel (who managed to do his old flat up in a couple of days) to do up the new office - who even opens an office or buys a desk before doing the decorating or sorting out strange smells?

And Sarah's bright idea is not really going to help Bethany is it? It will give Neil another chance to put the fear of god into her yet again.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard

Monday 10 July

Written by Susan Oudot Directed by Peter Rose

The Corner shop is opened after a renovation. Looks very market-like doesn't it? Dev insists that Erica distribute leaflets and is wearing a bright t-shirt advertising that he's back open again. She looks like sticking pins in her eyes.

Next door, Kevin is still surly at Anna, mainly because he's feeling guilty about that kiss with Erica. When Kevin gets disillusioned with his woman, it's a short fall into someone else's bed and he's already standing on a banana peel with Erica in his sights.

He confides in Rosie in the garage, even though he felt uncomfortable talking about his private life. But Anna overheard Kevin talking to Rosie about breaking up if she doesn't want him like she seems to be demonstrating. That's a tough thing to hear but it might be the kick she needs to try a bit harder.

Erica moans to Liz about feeling in a slump with Dev. Liz reckons it's just reality kicking in. She advises Erica to decide what she wants and go for it. Which is exactly what Erica wants to hear.

Liz is having a really good clear out while she's been packing to move out of the Rovers. Both she and Steve really seem out of sorts about it all, as you might expect. It's going to be a wrench for both of them. Steve decided to sign his mother up for classes at the community centre. His heart's in the right place, at least.

Jenny's already researching MS to find out what she's in for and how she can help Johnny who still hasn't told Aidan about the illness or the reconciliation with Jenny. Aidan had to find out about the latter from the factory gossips. He also realized Kate knows more about the initial break up than she's saying but she won't spill the beans. He did have reason to be angry at Jenny because Matthew Singh took his order away from the factor after the fight with Johnny. In the course of the conversation, though, Jenny let slip that Johnny has MS, thinking he was talking about that when he was actually talking about finding out about them getting back together.

Norris is getting mail addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Cole and it's in his own handwriting. Mary and Rita and Sean can't work that one out. I can. Many things that you send away for, like competitions, ask for a self addressed stamped envelope. That's exactly what it was because Mary decided to steam open the envelope, discovering a letter from the competition people, and a photo of the two of them inside.

Sarah, desperate to get Neil punished for what he did to her daughter, thought she was doing a good thing by getting Sgt. Neil to come and talk to Bethany. Wrong! She told him that she is pretty sure Bethany hasn't told them everything and she wants Neil to encourage her to be honest. She knows not what she asks. She brought him back to the house and Bethany's heart probably jumped into her throat. Panic stations. He reinforced things by suggesting Bethany tell everyone she made it all up, looking for attention. Threw in a threat just for added intimidation.

Johnny gets a warning from Rita not to mess Jenny about. He is suitably chastised.

Erica apparently thinks she can get her sparkle back from Kevin Webster of all people and invites him to meet her at a hotel for a bit of no-strings afternoon delight. He looks conflicted for about a minute but his salivating tongue rather gives him away.

Erica tells Kevin she'll be waiting for him in the bar of the hotel at 4 o'clock. Judging by the glint in his eye he has every intention of being there.

We move to the Rovers where Liz is telling Steve he needn't worry about how she's going to fill her time as she's managed to land herself a job as the receptionist at the medical centre. Johnny says he guesses that means they'll be seeing a lot more of each other. He tells Liz that all he needs to do now is break the news to Aidan about his MS.

Meanwhile Dev is promoting the re-opening of his shop with a two for one offer on chocolate but it doesn't seem to be going down very well with the customers. Something else that doesn't go down too well is a surprise day out he has planned for Erica. When he tells her he's arranged everything and it's all been booked for today she's extremely ungracious. She says she has plans to see her friend Carrie and she'll probably be staying out for the night. Dev has no idea what he's done to deserve her reaction.

Craig comes out of his house in time to see Neil walking out to his police car. He's talking to Sarah about something while Bethany peers out anxiously from behind the curtains. Meanwhile Kevin spots Anna and Rosie leaving number 13, meaning the coast is clear.

At the factory Aidan goes into the office to talk to Jenny. She apologises for inadvertently breaking the news about Johnny. Aidan doesn't know whether to be more upset about his father's illness or the fact he felt he couldn't confide in him.

We go back to the Rovers where Mary confronts Norris. She's incensed that he's entered them into a "Mr and Mrs" competition behind her back and doesn't even give him a chance to explain himself before flouncing out and declaring that she has a sausage casserole in the oven that requires her attention.

Over by the bar, Anna is having a drink with Rosie. She admits she overheard her talking to her dad in the garage. It's made Anna realise she doesn't want to give up Kevin without a fight and, to Rosie's delight, Anna asks if she'll go clothes shopping with her.

Kevin has slipped home to change into smart clothes. He pops his work overalls into a bin bag, checks his hair in the mirror and then leaves.

Back at the factory Kate and Johnny have joined Jenny in the office when Aidan comes in. He's upset all over again when he discovers that Kate already knew about their father's MS.

Erica is waiting in the bar at the hotel dressed up to the nines. She orders a bottle of wine and two glasses to be sent up to her room. While this is going on, Kevin pulls up outside. Just as he's about to get out of the car his phone rings. It's Anna. Kevin tells her he's out on a call and he might be late. Anna decides to take the plunge and tells Kevin why she's rung. She knows they need to talk and she's sorry for the way she's been. She wants to go back to the way they were and she loves him.

In the Rovers Norris explains to Rita why he entered the Mr and Mrs competition. It turns out the prize is a round the world trip. If they won Norris thought Mary could stop off in South Africa to see Jude and her grandson. He only did it to cheer her up. Rita tells him he's a silly old soul and advises him to talk to Mary and explain it to her.

Over by the bar Yasmeen tells Steve he can't have a refund on the classes he booked for Liz but he can always use them instead. He doesn't looked too impressed when his mother suggests he might like to try cake decorating. Peter comes in and asks Liz if he and Toyah can come and do some measuring up. Liz agrees but it's yet another reminder of how her life is about to change.

Aidan arrives home in a state. He breaks the news to Eva about his Dad. She looks genuinely concerned for him and gives him a hug. They're interrupted by Johnny ringing the doorbell.

Across the street, Craig calls round to see Bethany. He tells her he saw Neil leaving the house earlier and after what Bethany said about him before, Craig has realised there's something she's not telling him. Bethany doesn't want to talk about it.

Back at Aidan and Eva's, he is having a heart to heart with Johnny on the sofa. Aidan tells his father he doesn't want to lose him, he's going to be a dad and he'll need his support. Johnny reassures him he's not going anywhere and he thinks Aidan will make a much better dad than he ever was. It makes for very uncomfortable listening for Eva who is eavesdropping from behind the door.

At the hotel Erica is still waiting for Kevin to arrive. But it looks like she'll have a long wait as he has just arrived back home where Anna is ready for his return.

Kevin is surprised to find Anna is wearing make-up and a low-cut dress. She encourages him to sit next to her and they begin to talk. Anna tells Kevin how she overheard him talking to Rosie and she now knows how hard it's been for him and not just for her. She hopes it's not too late. But as she goes to kiss him Kevin pulls away. Anna thinks she's ruined everything. Kevin tells her she hasn't ruined anything but he has a confession – he's been with someone else.

The 'someone else' has finally decided she's been stood up. She tells the barman not to charge the drinks to her room after all as she won't be staying.

Meanwhile back at home, Anna is trying to get Kevin to tell her who he's been unfaithful with. He won't tell her but says it was only a kiss and it meant nothing. Then Anna spots his smart clothes under his overalls.. He admits he didn't want to come back to Anna before because he thought they were over and she didn't want him. But then she called and he came back home before he'd slept with the mystery woman. He tells Anna the only reason he nearly went through with it was because he was so lonely but he came back home to her because he loves her. "We love each other," adds Kevin and says they should try to move on. Anna replies that she's not sure whether she can.

Wednesday 12 July

Steve is showing Peter round behind the bar, when Liz appears, soon to be followed by Sean who has brought her a present – a doll of a Peruvian god of good luck. It seems Emily is always talking about them. Peter says he'll chase up the paperwork so they can finalise everything, and goes off for his shift on the taxis. When he's gone, Sean turns and asks Liz if she's ok because she's not looking happy. She says she is, it's her bed and she's got to lie in it – even if Steve did make it.

Craig is at the police station and he's another one who isn't happy, as it seems that Nathan is going to get away with it. Chatting to Neil, he says there must be something they can do, but Neil, of course, isn't helpful. He says there isn't anything, Bethany's evidence is all over the place, she hasn't even made a full statement. He tells Craig not to speak to her, but to put it behind him and move on, and then he leaves the room. Craig gets up and goes to speak to his superior and says he has a few questions about victim support and home visits.

Anna's in the kitchen when Jack comes in. He asks why his daddy slept on the sofa, and wonders why he heard Anna crying. She tells him she was having a bad dream.

Back at the police station, Craig goes over to Neil and starts talking about Bethany again. Neil starts to get irritable, saying he's like a stuck record. Craig points out that he must be helping, he saw Neil was visiting Bethany yesterday. Neil then says that victims are often overlooked, so Craig goes on to ask how many times he's been to see her. Neil says he doesn't know, he'd have to check his record, and Craig tells him he's already checked, and none of Neil's visits to Bethany have been recorded! Neil then gets a bit shirty and tells Craig to back off – there's not enough evidence, that's the end of it. He pulls rank, saying he's a sergeant and Craig is only a special, if he doesn't stop going on about it they'll fall out.

It's Liz's first day as a receptionist at the doctors' surgery. She's struggling through the appointment system on the computer, watched by Moira. Rita comes in and they have a little chat, Liz asks if her feet are playing up again. That is the wrong thing to do and Liz gets told off and warned about patient confidentiality. Moira then sees the little Peruvian god that Liz has put on the counter and isn't happy about that either.

Mary is also in the surgery waiting room and Rita has gone to sit with her. Mary is cross about Norris entering them into a competition as a married couple and says she's going to inform them of her withdrawal forthwith. Rita urges her to talk to Norris first to find out his reasons and what the first prize is, but Mary won't be put off and starts phoning there and then. As she asks to speak to the organiser of the competition Rita tells her the prize is a round-the-world ticket for two, calling at Cape Town, among other exotic destinations. Mary stops in her tracks and hangs up!

Kevin and Anna are talking. She says she knows she shouldn't have pushed him away and she's sorry, but what he did still hurts, but she still wants them – (him and Jack) – their family. Kevin is pleased and says he'll tell her who the other woman nearly was, if she wants him to, but Anna says she doesn't want to know, she wants them to move on with a clean slate and forget everything that's happened. They kiss.

Craig goes to see Bethany and asks her what Neil did. Bethany gets very uncomfortable and won't say at first. Then Craig says he's her friend and she can trust him, so, tearfully, she tells him that Neil is Nathan's mate and was at the parties. They're in it together, she had sex with Neil, she didn't want to but he made her. She breaks down, weeping.

Erica goes to the garage to see why Kevin didn't turn up. He tells her it was a mistake and should never have got that far. Anna needs him.

In the salon, David is morose. It's coming up to the anniversary of when Kylie died, and now he feels he's cheated on her with the mother of the lad who killed her. Maria points out he only kissed her, that's not cheating. Gail tells him he loved Kylie and that will never change.

In the corner shop, Erica is telling Dev she's bored and wants to have some fun, when Anna comes in. Dev tells Anna that Erica is down because her plans fell through last night, she was let down at the last minute after booking a hotel and everything. Anna tells her she needs a night out with a real mate, and will meet her in the Bistro at 6 pm and they'll have a good chat.

Bethany is telling Craig how Nathan told her to be nice to Neil, and she thought she was helping him. Neil took her to the bedroom and made her lie down, and took her clothes off. She kept hoping Nathan would come in, but he didn't. She wanted it to stop, it hurt her, she was so scared. Then she sobs and sobs, and Craig puts his arm around her.

Liz arrives back at the pub to find Peter and Toyah have arrived with the paperwork for her to sign.

Rita and Mary come in and sit with Norris, Mary tells him he's the most wonderful man she's ever met and she accepts his proposal of marriage. Norris seems very worried until Mary laughs and tells him she's only joking. She then tells him if they're going to pretend to be married, they must study, and she produces a large notebook she's prepared with all her wants, needs and personal habits noted.

Over at the Platt's house, they're looking at photos of Kylie and the family, and the children have made cards and poems. Maria asks Sarah how Bethany is, but Sarah tells her she's not good. Gail can't understand why nobody else has come forward.

Anna is in the Bistro when Erica comes in and she soon realises that Anna knows about her and Kevin. "Look at you with your fake tan and your bleached hair, you're nothing but a cheap, nasty slapper," says Anna, adding that Erica was supposed to be her friend. She then tells her she's watching her and if she steps out of line again she'll tell the whole street what she did.

Outside in the Street, Craig tells Bethany he'll report Neil, but Bethany tells him he can't, he's threatened to hurt her, her mum and Harry, she begs him not to say anything.

Anne Logan.

Friday 14 July

Hello,

It's the anniversary of Kylie's death so the family plans to take flowers to her and to play giant snakes and ladders in the garden because Kylie bought the set and never got to play. Audrey gets all choked up reading a poem Max has written and while she's emotionally vulnerable, David asks to borrow a couple of grand. Before Audrey can reply, Gail comes in. Bethany's gone off to see someone and will catch them up later and Sarah isn't there. She borrowed the car earlier this morning. David gets really annoyed that they're not prioritizing Kylie. Gemma is. She "tah dahs!" though the door in a home-made Kylie T-shirt.

Sarah and Gary are on a stake-out at the tanning salon, where they ask Mel to testify. She refuses and Sarah asks if she wants to stop Nathan doing this to other girls and says she knows Mel must be scared. Mel opens her mouth and screams, "Help me!"

Kevin and Anna are in the street and see Dev and Erica also walking along. Anna tells Kevin she knows the other woman was Erica and she's not worried. She thinks he's had a lucky escape.

Bethany's gone to see Craig to ask him what he's going to do. He says he's duty-bound to report what she said. She thinks there will be others, apart from Neil, who will come after her. She just wants to forget about it all. She knows nothing will happen to Neil because of who he is.

Eva knows it's Kylie's anniversary and talks to Leanne and Aidan, but at the same time she's looking at pictures of nurseries and talking about how small the flat is. When Aidan goes out of the room, Leanne asks Eva what she's going to do. She says that when she heard about Johnny's MS she thought of abandoning her revenge plan but this morning she heard Aidan in the bathroom phoning someone - and she's sure it was Maria. When Aidan returns, Leanne also casually mentions the size of the flat. Aidan points out they can't afford a bigger place while they're splashing out on pink cars. Eva ignores that and says she's phoning estate agents to set up some appointments, which means she won't be at work again. "What's more important? Me sewing knickers for a few hours or our baby's future?"

In the cafe, Sarah tells Gary they can't give up. They'll just have to track down some of the other girls used by Nathan. Sarah overhears Yasmeen and Rana talking about volunteering with a charity that helps street girls and asks if she can come with them.

At the police station, Craig asks to speak to the inspector.

Liz has been learning the ropes at the medical centre. Leanne's first in the queue, with Beth behind her. Then Erica arrives behind them. Liz has a bit of trouble checking them in on the computer. She tells the others they're checked in and then has a natter with Erica, telling her she has to tell Dev it's over.

At the drop-in centre, Yasmeen listens while a young woman says she just needs a place to stay "where he can't find me." Sarah leaps forward and asks who "he" is. Yasmeen tells her off. This is supposed to be a safe place for these girls, not an interrogation centre. Sarah switches to asking whether any of the girls have seen Bethany and shows her picture.

Craig tells an officer that his meeting with the inspector went well. He's thinking of quitting. He sees Neil come in and says loudly that the police force isn't what he thought it was.

Sarah and Rana are outside the centre when they hear an argument. It's Shona with Laura, the girl who had the same necklace as Bethany. Mel's almost doubled-over in pain. Sarah and Rana run to help her as Laura pushes her and runs off. Shona calls Sarah stupid and says she's messed it all up. "You've let her get away!"

Dev and Aidan chat and Aidan says Eva wants a place of their own. Dev says he's thinking of selling the flat. Aidan's interested.

Leanne's still sitting in the surgery waiting room and everyone else has been called in ahead of her. She's fed up and Liz realises she didn't check her in. Leanne stomps off in a huff. Liz misses answering a phone call and has a quick vape. The practice manager thinks they need a little chat.

Neil finds Craig and says Paul told him Craig's thinking of quitting. He asks if Bethany said anything to Craig and tells him this story about being undercover.

Dev tells Erica he has great news. He's found a buyer for the flat. He thinks they should spend some of the money on a holiday. "We need to talk," says Erica.

A bloke called Joe, an old army mate of Gary's, has come to see him. He'd like a word in private.

Billy and Sarah are with Shona at the hospital. She's got some kind of spleen problem and the hospital doesn't want to discharge her if she'll be living on the streets. They suggest she puts her address down as 11 Coronation Street. Shona doesn't want to upset David but Billy says they'll take her back when he's not there. Sarah says she'll make sure he's not there. She wants Shona to talk to Beth and to help them find Laura.

Neil tells Craig he was working for CID when he was sent in undercover to target Nathan. "I was just getting close to him when Bethany got in the way." And Bethany proved to be an unreliable witness. Craig shouts that Neil groomed her and had sex with her in Nathan's flat. And that wouldn't be part of any CID plan.

The End
Margaret Carr

Good evening. A quieter week on the Street this week - or so it felt. Stories are rolling along in a steady way as we reverted to a focus on Bethany and away from the Barlows. Eva added to piggin' and chuffin' with minghole - the language gets improved again! As I write this I am listening to Sandy Denny. Not a well known name as she left us far too soon. Go and listen for yourselves.

This is episode 9208. The writer was Ellen Taylor. The director was Peter Rose. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Sergeant Neil is explaining to rookie Craig that the allegation is nonsense and could seriously undermine his role as a undercover police officer and the operation itself. Neil admits that if he were Bethany's friend he would believe her as well - but Bethany was confused, under Nathan's influence and did not know what was going on. When Neil first met her at a party Bethany was a mess, definitely drunk and probably high as well. So to protect his cover he took her into the bedroom and put her to bed. He admits she probably remembers him sitting on the bed - fully clothed - when she awoke. Nathan gets the girls confused so that they cannot tell fact from fiction. Craig still wants to know why Neil made unrecorded visits to Bethany. Neil points out they were at Sarah's request, so he did not put them in his log book because of his undercover work. Craig wants to confirm it with CID but Neil warns him off saying they can end his career for blowing his work. Neil reminds Craig that he will make a good officer and should not jeopardize that. Neil assures Craig he would not abuse the trust involved in being a police officer. Craig looks unsure whom he now believes.

Sarah, Shona and Billy are leaving the hospital. Sarah says she will make up an excuse to cover her absence and they need to make sure David does not see Shona's return to the Street (so they need to return via the ginnel). Sarah says she will talk to David but it cannot be today (anniversary of Kylie's murder by Clayton, Shona's wayward son). Billy asks why Shona could not trust him and she felt he would react badly.

Dev is stacking shelves to postpone the reckoning he knows is coming. Erica insists they talk. He stops her prepared speech and says he knows what she is going to say - he has felt the problem as well. They are spending too much time together - at work, they live together, go out together, sleep together - which he loves but he realises she needs some space. So he has a simple solution - tonight he will sort the kids and she can go out with whoever she wants. Erica does not think that is enough and suggests not working in the shop. Dev agrees if it will make the relationship work - Cathy can do more. He asks if they have a deal and they shake hands - but this is not what Erica wanted.

In the cafe Mary and Norris are getting to know each other's foibles and history. Kirk arrives - he has picked up a parking ticket and Beth suggests they ask Craig to sort it out. Underworld are refusing to pay it (rightly). Kirk refuses to talk to Craig as he does not want to make a big deal out of it. They argue watched by Mary and Norris who suggests they should work on their marital disharmony for the sake of veracity. (Reminder Beth and Kirk are not actually married - remember the bigamy?)

In the Rovers Gary is bringing Joe (the old army mate) on the state of his relationships, child and lack of regular work since the gym closed down. Sean quite likes the look of Joe who insists on getting another round, accidentally on purpose demonstrating that he has a huge wad of notes in his pocket. Joe is doing well, running his own company undertaking private security work in the Ukraine. One of his lads does two weeks out there and gets what Gary gets in two months. And Joe assures him it is not dangerous - they just drive people around and even though they are fully armed Joe has never used his weapon once. Joe wants Gary to work for him.

Eva is in an absolute fury - Aidan has made an offer on "this flat?" It is a ming hole she tells him - which explains the knock down price. Aidan suggests redecoration. Eva thought he had promised a house and a garden! She wanted a house in Didsbury, not this pit. Aidan says he needs to be close at hand for Johnny. Aidan has spoken to the accountant and he cannot afford a house at the moment. Eva boils over. She is not keen on raising a child above a piggin' kebab shop. Aidan hopes they can trade up later - but Eva wants a house NOW! Aidan suggests she needs some patience. She tells him to go to hell and storms into the bedroom slamming the door behind her. Then the cat tells Aidan off as well.

Gail, Maxim, Bethany, David, Gemma, Audrey and Lily are in the garden. Sarah returns with a very lame excuse and leaves the garden gate open. She has brought cakes! David the dog jumps down and seeing the open gate heads out, chased by the real David. He manages to catch David the dog and he looks up the Street to see Shona and Billy climbing out of a Streetcars cab before going indoors.

After the break David is banging on Eileen's front door. He tells Billy he wants Shona - she is Clayton's mother. Billy says he knows, she is upstairs and unwell. David wants her off the Street now and squares up to Billy who looks down at him and tells him not to be so silly. David tells him that Shona is to stay away from his family. Billy returns indoors and assures Shona she is not going anywhere and gives her a huge hug.

David returns home and breaks up the party sending Audrey, Gemma, the children and David the dog indoors. He tells Bethany, Gail and Sarah that Shona is back and Sarah cannot avoid admitting that she was aware. Sarah insists that they need Shona to help Bethany. David throws a table over (watched by Max) as his anger boils over.

Joe is still trying to convince Gary that the job is good but Gary reckons it is danger money and he does not want to use a gun again. He also does not want to get killed. Gary insists on ending the conversation. He tells Joe that he is just not interested. As he goes his wallet drops on the booth seat. Joe sees it and that it is empty, takes out his wad of cash and puts it in the wallet which he then hands to Sean explaining it is Gary's.

Erica is sitting in a corner of the Bistro reading "Girl on the Train". She tells Robert she is having some "me time". Robert is serving because Michelle is out buying a car (interesting - why does she suddenly need a car?) and Kate phoned in sick (I wonder who she is seeing). Erica cheekily asks if he wants more staff. She explains she is not working in the shop any more and Liz can provide a reference on her bar work. Robert says he will check with Liz and will be in touch.

Eva emerges from the bedroom and says sorry. She got carried away with the idea of a house. And backing down she agrees they can redecorate. Aidan reveals he may have to ask Johnny to help with the deposit. Aidan has been looking at recent spending and things are more difficult than he thought! He promises to try and find the money from somewhere other than Johnny accepting the latter does not need to bothered at the moment. He rubs her tummy and says that the future of the family is important.

David, Sarah, Bethany and Gail are now indoors but the argument over Shona continues. David regrets letting Gail back into the house. Sarah explains to Bethany that she has been looking for any other girls who might support Bethany's story. Bethany wants her to leave it alone. Bethany shouts at her and follows Gail upstairs, Sarah dissolves in tears and David moves to comfort her.

Erica returns home where Dev is making chili gone barmy - using up leftovers. Erica says she fancied a quiet night in front of the tv. And she has a new job at the Bistro. Dev says if it makes you happy then it makes me happy. They smooch but her face does not show much happiness.

Gary returns to the Rovers and Sean returns the wallet. Kev and Anna note the wedge and Gary says he got it out of the bank to pay the rent. In answer to a query from Sean he says that Joe has never had a girlfriend for as long as he has known him. Apparently Joe is a bit of a handful. Gary does not expect to be seeing Joe again much to Sean's disappointment. Anna tells Gary that she and Kev are back on - they are going to watch Bridget Jones later. Craig arrives and ignores Beth and Kirk. Beth tries to ask Craig about Kirk's parking ticket but Kirk stops her. Craig sounds off angrily about how wrong trying to pull strings is. He says that some people join the force because they care about doing the right thing. "Whatever that is" - and Kirk and Beth leave him alone.

Sarah tells David Shona's story - how she had found Lara and they lost her. They discuss Bethany moving out to live with Nathan and Sarah thinks it is largely her fault - the dieting, the pills, the bullying and so on - because Sarah herself was not normal this time last year and so Bethany was very unhappy. Sarah continues to blame herself. David says that if Sarah goes on like this she will be ill again. Sarah believes she should have done more to protect Bethany. David replies that you cannot blame the parents for everything - but Sarah uses this as an opportunity to tell David that is exactly how he is treating Shona as Clayton's mother. Inside Sarah is sure that Shone is as eaten up as she is. And that is why David is still attracted to her. David admits he WAS attracted to her before he knew she was Clayton's mother. Sarah thinks he still is and Sarah knows that Shona is a good person. David shakes his head. He cannot fancy the mother of a kid who killed his wife. As Sarah points out we cannot always chose who we fall for - look at her exes - her brain would have chosen none of them. David sighs - he wants her gone so he does not have to deal with the situation. Sarah cannot agree, but she remains sure Shona can help Bethany and therefore help all of them. So she asks David not to push Shona away again. And the closing shot is of David - he needs to think about it all.

Roll credits.

Spoilers - do not read on if you do not want to know about future events:

We have been promised that Nathan will eventually face a court - but at the moment that seems a long way away. Mel is the eventual key - and she needs rescuing as well. I wonder if a way can be found for her to stay on the Street? After all she has been around for some time and can presumably name names?

House moves are imminent - Liz and Steve will be moving to the flat above the taxi office, Peter and Toyah into the Rovers; Billy and Todd into the flat above Preston's Petals. We have already had hints of the larger set which is coming and Liz's new boss at the medical centre will presumably live somewhere close by. Just watch out for her deadly tuna bake and custard. It would not surprise me if Brian and Cathy moved in somewhere together soon.

It has been announced that Erica (Claire King) and Anna (Debbie Rush) will both be leaving in the next year. It is unclear where this leaves Faye. And there were hints this evening that Gary may also be heading out of the Street for a while.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Monday 17 July

Written by Carmel Morgan Directed by John Anderson

Aidan and Eva have breakfast in the cafe, while Aidan is working on the mortgage application, something that needs concentration so yes, a busy cafe in the morning is just the place to do that. Aidan is trying to work out where they're going to get enough money for the deposit and comes up with the idea of selling his flash car. She's shocked that he's serious. Gemma comes in and sees Bethany sitting alone and looking down and out so she sits at the table with her, gently asking how she's doing. It starts out well, but Gemma's enthusiasms get rather loud and intrusive on the rest of the customers and Roy pulls her way to ask her to run an errand for him.

Eileen is fussing over Shona who is resting on the sofa. Todd leaves for work. Shona promises she'll be out of their hair but Eileen doesn't want her to leave. She likes having another woman in the house. David comes creeping in, having been let in by Todd. He wants a word with Shona. He doesn't appear to be aggressive or angry.

Seb finds Phelan looking at an online news article featuring Nicola but the laptop gets closed before Seb actually sees anything. Phelan sets him a few labouring tasks to do while he goes to price some jobs. Seb wants to go with him but is told to do what he was asked. Seb wants to learn more but Phelan hasn't the patience. He takes off, warning Seb not to break anything. Seb checks out the laptop and sees the news article. He smirks.

Cathy gets up and is wearing Brian's bathrobe. He sits her down and hands her a cuppa. He tells her they should have nicknames and suggests a few including Catherine Wheel. She thinks about what to call him. Bri? Bpac? She thinks they should play it by ear. He then pulls out a megaphone that he's going to have to use for work. He's going to make a complete idiot of himself, you can see that coming. He's going to be a litter enforcer.

David is asking Shona for help finding Lara. He tells them that Sarah is devastated and Bethany has shut down. Shona thinks Lara will have gone to ground and they won't find her. She doesn't think Lara will ever testify against Nathan even if they did find her but David won't accept that. David thinks Shona is just happy to have landed on her feet and he gets sarcastic. He leaves, slamming the door.

Peter and Ken have had a once over at Adam's new premises. Peter is pleased for Adam though Ken wonders if all the work that needs doing might mean it's a money pit. He just worries. Adam is confident anyway. He's written the last exam and thinks he did well. Didn't even cheat. Ken tells him his mother would be proud. Adam reckons he has a good handle on the cash injection. (It's called Aidan Connor)

Aidan has gone ahead and sold his car. Eva is a bit shaken but thanks him. Aidan thinks he can help his father out by doing more of the driving and can use Johnny's car for work. They spot Maria across the road. Eva waves and makes him wave as well. Maria looks uncomfortable.

Shona has come out with Eileen. They see Bethany at the bus stop. Eileen leaves them to it and Shona sits with her. Shona notices Bethany picking at her cig burn scab and shows her the scars on her shoulder from similar burns. She tells Bethany that she made a full statement to the police. Bethany doesn't think anything she does will make a difference. Nathan and the others will get away with it. A bus comes along and Bethany decides to take it. When Shona tells her to be careful, Bethany says she's not scared of anything anymore. It feels like she's been rubbed out. Poor kid!

After the break, we're back in Underworld where Aidan is looking online for baby seats. Adam comes in, Aidan is not happy to see him. Adam has heard the news that Aidan and Eva are buying a flat. Aidan realizes Adam wants more money and he admits it. Aidan refuses to give him more. He wants 10 grand. Johnny comes in at this point so Adam leaves it there and goes. Johnny takes a call and goes back out of the office.

Brian is picking up litter and toting the megaphone over his shoulder. He tells Todd that litter is now part of his job and he's doing the litter picking as a good example for the rest of his team. Cathy smiles at him from the door of the shop. She's brought him out a coffee and a compliment. Phelan comes to the cafe and when he pulls out his phone, a piece of paper falls out of his pocket. Brian notices and rushes down the road, spitting orders to pick it up into the megaphone. He's perilously close to wearing that judging from the look on Phelan's face.

Aidan has come to see Maria and has told her that Adam wants more money. She doesn't have any suggestions but she doesn't seem to have much sympathy either. Aidan wants Maria to try to convince Adam that they're finished. After all, he points out, Adam and Maria have history so he might believe her. That only sets Maria's temper off and I don't blame her. She throws him out.

Phelan comes back to the yard where Seb is throwing pieces of wood towards the bin and keeps missing, nearly hitting Phelan. Seb is bored and as a result, is mouthy and Phelan shouts back at him. Seb wines that Phelan is upset because Nicola has disappeared and tells Eileen who is with her husband that he's been stalking her on the internet. Phelan sacks him. Eileen is not impressed.

Maria has gone back to work and is in a mood, telling David that Aidan is a disgusting pig. Shona comes into the salon and tells David she'll help look for Lara. She's not optimistic but she'll try. David thanks her. Shona tells him she's broke, no transport and feels like crap but she's good to go. In other words, you drive. David takes the hint and picks up his jacket.

Brian finds Gemma putting chewing gum in her mouth but she pockets the wrapper so he megaphones her to remind her not to spit the gum on the ground when she's done. I know where she needs to spit it. She wants a go on the megaphone but he pulls it away from her. He finds a receipt for a set of salt and pepper mills on the ground and picks it up, examining it. It was a purchase at the Trafford Centre in the daytime on Friday and they discuss what it might mean about the purchaser. Maybe it's supposed to be a funny scene, but even the wonderful Gemma can't save this one.

Aidan makes a call and tells someone that he's "got it", with a fist full of money. Johnny comes in and Aidan admits that Adam's blackmailing him.

Shona and David are in a park, Shona talking to a couple of people but they haven't seen her in months. But oh look, Shona turns around and spies Lara outside the fence around the park.

Adam has arrived at Aidan's flat. Aidan tells him he's not got the money and he's not going to, either. Adam starts making noises about telling Eva but Aidan threatens back, he'll go to the law society and then the police. Eva arrives home and sees Adam there. Aidan can't persuade Adam to go and then lies that Adam's there on a legal matter on behalf of one of Underworld's clients but Adam denies it. They talk in vague terms until Adam has enough. He tells Eva that Aidan has something to tell him. Eva, of course, is pretty sure where this is going and it will blow her revenge scheme out of the water.

The episode ends there.

Written by Martin Allen and directed by John Anderson

Just as Adam is about to speak and give the game away Eva collapses onto the floor. Aidan tells Adam to call an ambulance and adds that Eva is pregnant. Eva insists she'll be OK and, as Aidan goes into the bathroom to fetch a cold flannel, Eva whispers to Adam to meet her in the ginnel behind the Rovers in half an hour. She adds that Aidan can't know.

Having found Lara, Shona and David show her a picture of Bethany and ask if she knows her. Lara says it was thanks to Bethany grassing up Nathan that it messed things up for the rest of the girls. She isn't keen to talk but is finally persuaded by the offer of a hot meal.

Aidan's all for Eva going to the doctor's but Leanne has come round to look after her. The moment Aidan goes, Eva confesses she faked the fainting fit as Adam was about to let the cat out of the bag about Aidan and Maria's affair. Leanne wonders how she's going to get him to keep quiet. Eva tells her not to worry, she's already thought about that.

Luke and Alya are in Roy's Rolls trying to decide on pizza or chips for their tea. They're clearly enjoying their new roles as flatmates. Eileen comes in and notices Seb looking dejectedly at a plate of untouched food. They talk. He mentions Phelan seems obsessed with Nicola. Two sentences into the conversation Seb works out that Phelan thinks he could be her dad. Eileen says it hasn't been confirmed and he needs to keep the news to himself.

Eva and Adam have their secret assignation in the ginnel. He shows her the photo he took of Aidan and Maria kissing. She tells him she knows about the affair but she doesn't want Aidan to know that she knows. This is for the sake of the baby, she explains, as she doesn't want it growing up without a father. Adam thinks she's mad but agrees to keep quiet.

Across town David and Shona sit with Lara while she eats the meal they've bought for her. Shona tries to tell her she understands what Nathan's like – she's been there too and she shows her scars to prove it. But Lara is homeless and at least he put a roof over her head. Now she has nowhere to go and she blames Bethany. It looks like it will take more than a slice of sticky toffee pudding to persuade Lara to talk to the police.

Eva is back at the flat with Leanne and sharing a bottle of wine when Adam turns up. He's forgotten his keys. When he comes in to collect them he spots the bottle and two glasses on the table. He doesn't say anything but it's obvious what he's thinking – would Eva be drinking wine in the middle of the afternoon if she was pregnant?

Back at the cafe Shona is still trying to convince Lara, but to no avail and, as she finishes her meal, she jumps up and runs out before David can catch her.

We return to the street where Eileen comes home to speak to Phelan. He seems to have mellowed and agrees that he'll give Seb his job back. But he's not so calm when Eileen confesses what she's done. First she tells him about showing Nicola the photos and then she admits about her conversation with Seb earlier.

Brian goes into Roy's Rolls to buy a cake where he spots some packaging lying on the side. The details match the receipt he found on the pavement outside and he issues Roy with an FPN – or a Fixed Penalty Notice for £70, he explains. Chesney can't believe Brian is intending to fine Roy for littering. Judging by his reaction, Roy can't believe it either.

Aidan goes round to see Adam and is somewhat surprised when Adam says he's no longer trying to blackmail him. He tells Adam that now there's an innocent child involved it changes everything. Aidan looks skeptical, Adam Barlow is hardly known for being so caring, there must be a catch. But for the time being he takes it at face value. He asks Adam not to mention the pregnancy as hardly anyone knows yet.

Back in Roy's Rolls, Kirk has been checking the internet on his phone. He tells Brian he can only fine Roy if he saw him drop the receipt. Brian refuses to back down so Roy refuses to sell him a cake.

David and Shona have come back home. He's grateful to her for trying to get Lara to talk. In fact, he says, she can stay around if she wants to. In case Bethany needs to talk to someone, he adds, just in case Shona should get the wrong idea.

Aidan and Eva are in the Rovers and he's getting all broody thinking about the baby. She takes advantage of this by suggesting that when they buy the flat it should be in their joint names. Just in case something happens to him, she adds, and she's left as a single parent. Eva's phone pings with a text message – it's Adam saying he's "got her game" and telling her to meet him in the ginnel at 6. He catches her eye from across the room.

Eileen's having a drink with Phelan. She's doing her best to cheer him up but he's retreated into his shell. This whole Nicola business is really getting to him.

Meanwhile, it looks as though Seb might have taken matters into his own hands. He arranges to meet Nicola in the cafe. First he tells her that he's been sacked but then he lets slip that he saw Phelan looking stuff up on the internet. When she questions him further Seb tells her that he thinks Phelan may be dying …

Eva meets Adam in the ginnel. She tells him she'll have to be quick. But what he has to say doesn't take long. He tells her he's worked out she's not really pregnant and knows that she's doing her best to take Aidan for everything she can get. He says that it they team up together they can screw him for a whole lot more. Eva says she doesn't want his help but Adam replies that she's coming in with him or he'll tell Aidan exactly what she's been playing at.

Wednesday 19 July

Eva is just taking several takeaway coffees out of the cafe when she bumps into Adam. He asks if she's had any ideas about how to bring down her lying, cheating boyfriend? Then he goes on to say it might be a good idea to look at Aidan's finances, if they're buying a flat together, if Eva can show Adam the paperwork, there's bound to be something they can use against Aidan.

Craig is in the cafe, and confesses to Roy that he thinks he might quit his job, it's not what he thought it would be. Roy thinks that would be a shame, Craig makes a fine special constable.

Seb goes to the yard and asks Phelan if he can look for his jacket he left behind. Phelan asks him if he's seen Nicola lately, and then goes on to say he knows that Seb knows he might be Nicola's dad. After a bit of chat, Pat tells him he could still have a job if he wants it. He knows he's a grumpy so and so, but promises he won't kick off like that again. Just then Nicola turns up and sees that Pat's had a rethink about the sacking. Just then the Pat's phone rings and he goes off to answer it. Nicola quietly asks Seb why Pat is still working if he's so ill. Seb tells her Pat is stubborn, but he doesn't have long. When Pat gets off the phone, Nicola asks if he'll go for a drink with her, so they can have a chat.

David and Sarah are in the cafe, talking about Nathan and one of his other victims who has refused to testify. Sarah says Nathan has to get what's coming to him, otherwise Bethany won't get better. Just then Bethany walks in and says she knows they were talking about her. She tells them she's had a chat with Shona, but it hasn't helped – nothing helps. She's broken and nothing is going to fix her.

Brian is in the pub, talking to Cathy about Roy and the receipt he dropped. She tells him that he should let Roy off, after all, Roy is his friend and his landlord. Brian says he's a man of principle, and refuses. Cathy tries again, and tells him that one of them needs to back down. "Fine!" says Brian, and Cathy smiles. "Roy can," he adds, and Cathy sighs.

Nicola and Pat are in the pub, she's saying she doesn't want any regrets, she does what makes her happy. When he makes a move to get another drink, she tells him she'll get it, he should be taking it easy. Then she goes on to say that she thinks it's amazing that he's just carrying on. Pat is puzzled. "Why wouldn't I be carrying on?" he asks, and that's when it comes out that she thinks he's dying.

Aidan goes up to Eva in the factory to say that they can meet the mortgage guy later to talk about the flat sale and asks if she's got her bank statements ready. She tells him all her stuff is all over the place, coat pockets and the like, but suggests he gives her his stuff that he's got together so far, and she'll get hers and meet him there with all of it. He's happy with that and goes off smiling.

Nicola and Pat go back to the yard and confront Seb about his lie concerning Pat's health. He says they've both done so much for him he just wanted them to sort it out. She's cross with him, and tells him this is her life he's messing with, then she goes off, saying she should never have come.

Aidan arrives back at the flat and tells Eva that the meeting with the mortgage guy has been brought forward. She looks rather panicked when he asks if she's got the paperwork sorted, but says that she has. When he goes off to get changed, she rings Adam and tells him she needs it back right away. He tells her to stall Aidan for 20 minutes, he'll take it to the factory.

Roy is sweeping outside the cafe when Brian comes along, saying that Roy has surprised him, He's always thought he was an honest man, and he knows that Roy knows he dropped the receipt. Roy tells him he lost it, he didn't drop it on purpose. Roy then notices that Brian has dropped a piece of paper and picks it up and hands it to him, remarking that he hopes he'll be issuing himself a fine. Brian tells him he's being ridiculous, but adds that if Roy doesn't pay his fine he'll have to go to court. Cathy is there, trying to soothe ruffled feathers, but they ignore her. Roy tells Brian he'll see him in court, and also that he can pack his bags!

Craig sees Bethany sitting outside the chippy and sits down with her, asking if she's all right. She wishes everybody would stop asking her that. He tells her that he spoke to Neil, who denied everything, but he knows that Bethany is telling the truth. He tells her that she's still Bethany, and she's stronger than ever. She tells him she's not strong, she can't deal with any of it. He tells her she is dealing with it, she's amazing, she's the strongest person he knows.

Eva and Aidan are hurrying along, on their way to the meeting. She obviously hasn't got the paperwork, she tells him she wasn't thinking straight – baby brain! - and now remembers it's all at the office.

Adam arrives at the factory and hands a folder to Kirk, saying he found it outside. Kirk sees it's Aidan's, and thinks he picked it up with the boxes by mistake. Adam suggests he gives it to Eva, so Aidan will never know.

Eva and Aidan arrive and go into the office, Eva slips away and phones Adam, but while she's on the phone Kirk hands her the folder, which she stuffs into her handbag.

Bethany is at home, looking at the website about victims of abuse. Sarah comes in and tells her she's proud of her. Bethany tells her that she's found that there's loads of support for people who've been through what she has, and thinks maybe she should speak to someone. Sarah thinks that's a good idea.

Aidan is searching his office for the folder. Eva hasn't told him that she now has it, and tells him she was looking at it earlier and it doesn't look like he earns much at all. He tells her his accountant writes a lot of his earnings off as expenses. She then goes on to say it might be better if the flat was put in her name only, so they don't shed light on his tax dodge. Then she whips the folder out and pretends to find it so they go off to their meeting.

Kate, Luke, Alya, Zeedan and Rana are in the flat playing a texting game with their phones.

Pat walks into the Rovers and sees Nicola there, but she tells him she doesn't want to see him. "Oh, that's why you're having a drink in my local is it?" he asks. She gets up to leave but he stops her, asking if she's not curious about whether he's her dad.

Unbeknown to Roy and Brian, Cathy has set up a meeting with both of them in the pub. While Roy goes to get a drink, Cathy tells Brian that this needs sorting out.

Eva and Aidan are enjoying a drink in the pub when Adam comes in and gestures to Eva to go outside.

When Roy comes back to the table with his orange juice, Brian takes out the fine notice and tears it up.

Back in the flat, a rather drunk Kate proposes a toast to Luke and Alya, saying they are the best house mates. She staggers off to bed, and then Alya turns to Luke and says she thinks they should go to bed. "Okay," he says. Then she adds – separate beds.

Eva is having a quiet chat to Adam, at the back of the Rovers. He tells her he doesn't like seeing what Aidan has done to her and what he's taken from her. He tells her that the one thing Aidan really loves is factory – if they take that from him he really will be left with nothing. "So are you in, or what?" he asks.

Friday 21 July

Peter and Toyah come out of Roy's Rolls making plans for their move to the Rovers.

Craig and Kirk also leave their house. Kirk's got a toothache. Craig's got a day off.

Sarah meets Audrey outside the salon. Sarah's taking Harry to the child-minder's. She's doing a double shift at the Rovers today because Liz and Steve are packing. Sarah sees Craig and asks for a word. She thanks him for having a chat with Bethany. Bethany's now found an online forum for girls in her position and it seems to be helping.

Kate and Luke both have hangovers. Alya, of course, is chipper! Kate leaves the flat and Luke apologises to Alya, saying he likes her but he shouldn't have tried to kiss her and he won't be trying it again. Alya looks as if she'd quite like him to try it again.

Toyah, ignoring moving etiquette, arrives at the pub with a box. She and Peter thought they'd move some of their stuff across. Tim arrives behind Toyah. He's come to help Steve pack. Liz thinks that's very thoughtful - until she finds out Steve is paying Tim. Tim asks how the new job it going. It seems he knows Moira and describes her as a right laugh. He tells Liz it must be difficult to be working for someone else. Liz goes off to work but lingers in the bar for a look round on her way out.

Phelan quickly hides a Freshco bag in the front of the van as he sees Eileen coming along. He tells her he's had a call about a quote on an extension and he won't be back until late this afternoon.

Adam's on the phone telling someone that 1500 pounds is pretty steep. He sees Eva and tells her it's the latest quote for rewiring the office. It's still cheaper than Phelan's quote, though. Eva tells him she's starting to have second thoughts about their plan.

Craig and Bethany chat and she tells him the forum makes her feel less alone and less stupid. As they chat, Michelle shouts from over at the Bistro that Craig should drop off his CV when he can. He tells Bethany he's asked about a job there. Bethany doesn't see how he can do that and still volunteer for the police. She's upset for him but Craig says he's failed. He couldn't protect Bethany and he stuffed it up with Neil.

Adam tells Eva she needs to get a job in the office.

Gail's getting her hair done (well, she's wearing the cape). She tells Audrey that Nick's found a buyer for the flat – an investor who already owns some of the flats. Audrey asks what Leanne thinks about this. Gail couldn't care less. But Nick's solicitor has been trying to get hole of her and can't so they've sent a recorded letter. If Gail had her way, she wouldn't even get a letter.

Kirk shows his tooth to Aidan and is sent off to the dentist. Aidan and Alya share a little joke about Kirk and Maria being siblings and Eva overhears the end of it. She says her back hurts. She's going to go to the medical centre to get it checked out.

Craig arrives at the police station and Neil meets him outside and asks if he took his advice. Craig says he will be staying on as a Special. But he's going to ask for a different mentor. Neil's angry because how will that look? It'll just cause questions. "We need to go for a little drive," he tells Craig. "And I'm not asking."

Kate's on a break in the Bistro and tells Michelle she saw Steve with a lot of boxes. Rana and Alya come in. Alya wants their advice. She's met a boy, a sales rep, through work and he's funny and kind and good looking. She doesn't know what to do next. "What if it's a mistake?" The others aren't having that. "What if he's The One?" they ask.

Neil's police car is parked by some derelict buildings and he's lecturing Craig. "How many times do I have to tell you? Nothing happened. I was trying to help her. This is my career. My family, so I need to know, mate, what are you going to do?"

Shona's tucked up recovering on the sofa, watching Trawlermen and boring Eileen. Nicola knocks on the door and asks for Phelan. She's got a DNA kit for him.

Eva's in the flat when Aidan calls her but she says she's still at the doctor's.

Liz is outside the medical centre staring at the pub when Peter passes by with another box.

Gail meets Shona and says she'd heard Shona was back. But she doesn't want to fight. She wants to thank her for helping Bethany.

Moira comes out and sees that Liz is outside the building without signing herself out. And if Liz is going to vape, she'd be better off doing it outside the other door. It's not a good advertisement for the medical centre. "Round the back? Where the bins are?" Liz is incredulous.

Neil demands to know whether Craig's going to let this drop. "Sorry, no," says Craig. "You will be," snarls Neil. He grabs Craig by the face and says, "If you don't keep your big mouth shut then I will do a lot worse to your little Bethany than I did the last time." Craig says he knew it! He knew Neil was lying. How could he hurt Bethany. "I didn't hurt her. She loved it!" He says the other blokes got what they paid for so Craig should forget it. "This is not a game and I swear, if any of this comes out, I will ruin you!" He tells Craig to get out of the car, though Craig protests that he has no idea where they are. "Ask a policeman!" snaps Neil, driving away.

Eileen tells Phelan about Nicola's visit.

Steve carries a few cushions while Tim struggles along behind with a heavy carton. He asks Steve what he's got in there and stops to look in the top. Uh oh, it's one of Peter's boxes that's got to go back to the Rovers.

Michelle stands outside the flats watching Steve trying to open the taxi flat door while he's holding a heap of cushions. The postie stops by. He's got a recorded-delivery letter for someone in the block but they're never in. Michelle says she'll sign for it and pass it on. Turns out it's addressed to Leanne.

Eva tells Aidan that her back pain is down to her posture when leaning forward over her machine. Aidan thinks she should give up work but she suggests she should work in the office.

Peter, Toyah and Sarah put up balloons and a poster for Liz and Steve's last night at the pub. Liz takes Toyah aside and tells her there's a plant in the back yard that she planted when Steve and Michelle lost their baby. Toyah promises to look after it. Liz can even drop by to water it.

Craig is at Bethany's. He tells her he's had a run-in with Neil. She says he'll have to let it go now. It's too dangerous. So Craig plays her a recording he's made on his phone of Neil admitting his guilt and threatening Craig. She asks if anyone else has heard it. "Not yet, but they will."

The End.
Margaret Carr

Good evening. This is being written in a little bit of a hurry as I am about to go on holiday - Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Budapest for 10 days. With thanks to the technology I will be here next week if a little late.

This is episode 9213. It was written by Mark Wadlow. The director was John Anderson. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. And now over to the mean Street of Weatherfield.

The opening scene is at the Platts where Craig sits Bethany down and reveals that he has been naughty and stitched up his sarge and mentor right royally - the evidence will not stand up in court but there will now need to be a proper investigation and Nathan and Neil will face charges. Bethany has to call DC Leigh and say that Sergeant Clifton is corrupt. Bethany tells him no chance - but Craig responds that she has to do it for all the other girls on the help forum. Bethany dials the number.

Steve is sat in the back room of the Rovers supping a pint. Liz returns from a hard day and they discuss the future. Liz took the job to be dealing with people - but they are so miserable - drunk people are always happy! And Moira the boss is watching her every move (just watch out for her tuna custard bake Liz - then you know you have problems). Steve tells her they both have to see it as a fresh start. Liz hates people saying that! And Steve needs to pull his weight tonight.

Jenny and Johnny are in the office when Aidan and Eva come in with Eva wanting to know where her desk will go this time. Alya also pops her head in the door (what happened to the story of the magic machine they bought for her special products?), and she never sits in the office either - too many management people. Aidan says he has promoted Eva and he is a director of the company. Jenny reckons if anyone should be promoted it should be her - she has proven her business (blackmailing) ability. After all Carla said Eva was good last time around. Johnny backs Aidan as Eva is family. Jenny leaves trying to put her nose back in place (and Sally will have summat to say no doubt). Eva looks like the moggy what got the cream! Once everyone is gone Aidan tells Johnny that machine work is straining Eva's back and is not good for the baby. So it is medical.

In the Rovers Toyah is showing Peter how to pull (a pint) watched by Leanne. Toyah will not drink the pulled pint as she might, just might be pregnant.

Sarah returns home to find Craig briefing DC Leigh on the new evidence. Craig plays the tape. Sarah realises that the nice friendly policeman she has kept using to see Bethany was actually one of the abusers. Craig then explains events. Bethany then fills in the missing story about the video kit which was Neil's which was stolen so she had to be "sweet" to him. She recounts the events at the party, going to the bedroom and how Nathan would not "rescue" her from the bedroom. She now realises it was all a setup which they had probably used many times with other girls. She wanted to tell Sarah but could not find the words. The DC says the allegations will be investigated by Counter Corruption. Craig is sure Clifton was protecting Nathan. The DC wants a new video interview from Bethany and a statement from Craig. Sarah will only believe the police take it seriously once they are all in jail.

Eileen has prepared a nice "Jewish" tea for Nicola's visit. Matzo balls, gefilte fish! Todd notes some garlic bread! Nicola sees the food and assumes there are people coming over. Pat explains it is for her. Eileen said they are some kosher snacks because she likes Topol and then realises that might be a bit racist. Nicola explains that whilst her "parents" were religious she is not.

Luke is telling Zeedan at the Bistro that he thought this girl fancied him (we know it is Alya - he is not admitting anything to her brother of course). And then it went weird. Zeedan tells him to go on a dating site and find someone. Leanne pops in to invite Zeedan for tea (he is good friends with Si remember) and she hands out an invitation to the Rovers that evening for opening night. Michelle emerges from the kitchen and the girls exchange barbed comments. Leanne goes, Michelle sees the flier and tears it up and she also tears up the recorded delivery letter she signed for earlier.

Sergeant Neil Clifton arrives at the police station to commence his duty. A reception committee of Craig and DC Leigh is waiting. CCU want a word. As he goes he stares at Craig. No doubt he will be seeking revenge.

After the break Alya returns home from work and Luke tells her is off on a date - which disconcerts her slightly. He reminds her he is young free and single! Kate arrives with a giant half price pizza from Freshco if people want to share. Kate asks about her new squeeze (Luke) and Alya says not - she is really happy being single (not convincingly enough though).

Moira (Liz's boss from the medical centre, another red head) comes in and returns Liz's make up bag which she had left on her desk and is reminded they operate a clean desk policy in the centre. Steve instantly sees her as an attractive proposition and tries to chat her up. He offers her a drink but she is tee-total, although she reckons it is not a bad little boozer, she has been in for a couple of wakes and always found it friendly. Looking a bit tatty though and perhaps some paint would be a good idea. Moira leaves telling Liz not to be late in the morning. Steve sees her going and tells Liz she looks nice enough and he has no idea what Liz was moaning about. (Keep Moira away from the kitchen knives is all I would say).

At the Platts Sarah tells a very tired Bethany that she is very proud of her. She is also certain dozy Craig has played an absolute blinder, maybe the world is not too bad. Clifton's house has been searched and a laptop removed. They are sure the evidence will allow CPS to charge both men. However Craig broke the rules and despite the fact that he might be a hero it will count against him if he wants to join the police.

Nicola stayed for tea and is happy - and insists on the saliva test which Pat does. He acknowledges that the two of them would prefer different outcomes. She will phone with result. Pat tells her that if he is just a mad builder who loved her mother then he wishes her a wonderful and happy life. She returns the good wishes.

Bethany visits number 5 to see dozy Craig and he did not tell her about his problem - because she would have refused to tell the truth. And the truth needed to come out. Craig cares about Bethany and knew he had to do the right thing even if the police do not like it. (He called them the police force but that is very non-PC these days - they are a service!). She calls him the best friend in the world and gives him a huge hug which surprises Beth as she comes in the front door. Bethany excitedly tells Beth that Craig busted a cop today - Beth looks at her son with new respect.

In the Rovers Johnny and Jenny are saying congratulations to Aidan and Eva. Izzy and Sean are bitching ever so slightly about Eva's elevation. Izzy decides to speak up about Aidan promoting his girlfriend - Aidan points out she is his girlfriend. Aidan explains there are medical reasons behind it. Izzy backs right off. Aidan says Eva is pregnant. Toyah did not know her "sister" was even trying. Eva says it is very early - but the doctor has said not to work on the machines. Izzy and Sean apologise and Leanne thought the secret was to be kept so is a little surprised.

Beth wonders if Craig might be biting off more than he can chew? Craig tells her that he may never be a policeman - but ensuring the people who hurt Bethany face justice was more important. He says he would do it for anyone. He tells his mother that they were merely hugging as friends - it has been an emotional day. Beth says that she thinks Craig is in love with Bethany. He gets angry and goes to leave - but then turns and asks if it is that obvious - has she twigged? Beth says she has not because Craig is so lovely to her. He is happy being her friend and knows nothing will come of it. But he still do the same thing for everyone because it is the right thing to do. Beth hugs him.

Back at the Rovers it is time for the changeover. Ken, Audrey, Ty, Fiz are present - Liz has been there for about 20 years on and off. Gail is telling Izzy she is the best. Sean is glad he is not on the rota tonight or he would be serving pints of tears. Toyah emerges from the back with a huge basket of flowers for Liz. Peter gives Steve a shoebox full of bar snacks! Toyah wants to say a few words. Tomorrow there is a changing of the guard. She knows she has some pretty big boots to fill. Some awesome women have stood behind that bar - because in this business women do go all the way to the top. Women like Annie Walker, Bet Lynch, Vera Duckworth. But Toyah aspires to the woman who is a great boss and a great friend - Liz McDonald. Applause - and we see Jenny, Johnny, Aidan and Eva. Toyah continues that the Rovers will not seem the same without Liz and she hopes that Liz will sprinkle a bit of her magic dust around the place before she goes. In response Liz keeps it short and sweet. She has loved every minute of working in the Rovers, she had made some wonderful friends, (we see Pat and Eileen now in the background) and the place will always have a special place in her heart. She is sure Toyah and Peter will have every success in the Rovers and that they will do a grand job. So for the very last time she rings the bell "Last orders please". Toyah and Liz hug. Steve has a broad grin on his face. In a booth Eva is telling Leanne that she cannot handle the lying - especially to Toyah who is so desperate for a baby. Eva just does not know how much longer she can keep the act going.

Roll credits.

I am sure we all hope that is the end of Nathan and the Bethany grooming story. But will Nathan and Neil's friends exact some revenge on Craig? And will he become a policeman?

Toyah came back about 6 months ago and to date I have not been impressed. Let us hope tonight is the start of her being a real central star. If she can do it then good, evidence over the last 6 months is not great and frankly I cannot see Peter surviving running the Rovers.

Michelle was a cow tonight over Leanne's letter. And without real reason. Out of order.

And how long before Luke and Alya get their wires uncrossed?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard

Toyah's name is over the door of the pub. Not Peter's, surprising me. I would have thought both names would be there like Steve and Michelle's were. Never mind. She's delighted, looking back at the stroppy teenager she was 20 years ago (this month!) and never ever thinking she'd own the local pub. They are also looking forward to a pregnancy test in a couple of days at the clinic. She utters the phrase of doom "I've got a good feeling about this" which is inevitably going to jinx her fertility endeavor, just you wait.

Steve and Liz walk across the street, looking at the happy couple. The end of an era, Liz muses.

Mary and Norris are through to the final three of the Mr. and Mrs. competition. She launches into a story about entering a weekly application to go on Block Busters. It never happened. Her face falls as she reads the rest of the letter. Something in the letter is disturbing.

In the cafe, Beth is ruminating about an alcoholic running the pub. Roy gives the old tv show Cheers a shout out, saying it worked for Sam Malone though Beth thinks that's the fella with the eye patch that ran the Flying Horse. Roy remembers that Hayley was a fan of Cheers. Beth preferred Friends. There was a going away party last night, tonight there's going to be a New Management party. Robert and Michelle are at a table and realize the Bistro will be empty if there's a do at the pub. She reminds him that the pub has punters, the Bistro has clientele.

Mary rushes in to see Bethany who is sitting at a table with Craig. She's desperate for assistance. She tells them about the competition and here's the thing, they need photos but she can't look the same in each photo. Bethany agrees to help her with different hair styles and makeup and Craig offers to take the photos.

Sarah asks Gail to look after Harry. She's got to go in to work early in lieu of the party. Gail goes on an apparent rant against Toyah for making Sarah work, calling her selfish and proposing to give her a piece of her mind. But it turns out she was on the phone to Nick. The new owner of the flat wants to move in today, in the fastest real estate transaction in history. Leanne has ignored all his calls and texts and the registered letter. (because Michelle ripped that up) Gail offered to speak to her because she's looking forward to the confrontation. Might even enjoy it!

Fiz is taking an antiques class in addition to that massage therapy one (what ever happened to that, anyway. She's not mentioned it nor is she attempting to make any money from her new skill). Kirk suggests she look through Tyrone's junk in the back yard. She has already but there's nothing worth while there. There's chit chat about the new owners of the pub. Sean is going to miss Liz, his bezzy mate. He reckons he was the glue that held that place together. Sally reckons she's seen a lot of people come and go (yes, yes she has) and the drinks still taste the same. Fred Elliott gets a mention with Kirk doing a passable impression of him. Aidan comes in with Michelle who's passing out flyers for 2 for 1 drinks. Sinead asks Aidan for an advance on her wages since Chesney has been off work after his injury but is turned down. Michelle takes note.

Todd and Billy have been buying flat pack furniture but a strong brew first is called for before attempting to put it all together. Out the window, Todd notices Summer get off the bus and decides he needs to get in to work early, leaving Billy to grapple with the flat packs himself. Todd promises to help him later.

Peter is hanging a sign over the pub advertising it's under new management.

Todd approaches Summer. He questions whether her grandparents know where she is. Apparently not, they think she's gone to Summer Sunshine Club. She decided it was too babyish for her but Todd makes a deal. She spends the morning at the club and she can come and talk later. Deal accepted. They shake on it. She goes back to the bus stop.

Gemma is visiting Chesney to try to cheer him up. Her idea of that is proposing to stuff her gob with satsumas. Er, no, that's ok. She jumps up to go make him lunch but runs up to the loo first. He gets up to answer the door, cringing a bit with the pain around his wound. It's Michelle at the door. She has brought chocolates and an envelope and leaves. The envelope contains cash!

Leanne and the baby are in the cafe. Tim mentions that his father had wanted to name him after his favourite actor whose name is Oliver. Oliver Hardy! Steve can see why! Gail arrives, armed and ready. They start right off bickering and then Gail points out that Leanne has ignored Nick's calls and a letter from his solicitor. She genuinely has no idea what the letter is about. Gail tells her the new tenants want to move in.

After the break, we are in the Bistro. Norris and Mary are dressed up and Mary's pumping air into balloons. This is the photo shoot for Date Night. Robert reminds them they must order something. Mary orders drinks, non-alcoholic ones for the teens. Norris then orders a bottle of champagne but it turns out he only wants the bottle as a prop. No dice, Robert says, you want it, you pay for it. Norris forgets that idea. Just the drinks, then. Bethany offers to change her makeup to make her look younger still but Norris thinks if it's supposed to be a recent photo, she should go makeup free and show all the blemishes and wrinkles. I think he's missing the point.

A woman comes in to the Bistro for a table. Daniel approaches and knows who she is, the editor for the Gazette. He's applied for an internship there and has done his research. She's impressed. He wonders if she was there because of the stabbing. She doesn't seem to have heard about it but she's immediately interested. He offers to write an article about it and submit it for consideration.

Leanne has packed all her worldly goods into a large suitcase, a couple of big carry-alls and a couple of bin bags. Simon comes along and wonders what's going on. She doesn't break the news gently. Nick has sold the flat and they have to get out. She hands the bin bags to him and tells him she'll sort somewhere for them to live.

Michelle had given Chesney 200 pounds which Gemma thinks is not very much for the injury Chesney sustained. Sinead has come home from work for her dinner and hears all about it. Sinead thinks it was nice of Michelle but Gemma loudly protests, through all the chocolates she's shoving in her mouth, that it's an insult. It's a flamin' liberty! Sinead takes umbrage at her and asks her to leave. Chesney kind of agrees with Gemma, though.

Summer is back at the law office, enjoying some fizzy pop that Todd brought for her. He's concerned that she's hiding from the staff at the summer club. She doesn't want to talk about her grandparents, she wants to talk about her case. She reckons her grandfather is ok but her grandmother... well she's not an old lady knitting in a rocking chair as Todd describes. Billy comes in with coffees and is surprised to see Summer there.

Sally and Tim have given a card to Toyah and Peter. Sally was initially thanked but Tim pipes up that it's from him too and he's the one that picked it out. He grumbles that men are never expected to be able to do nice things like that. Sally and Gina drag him away to a booth. Sean is next up to the bar, hoping they know what they've got themselves in to. Peter comments that Toyah is a fast learner (and I wonder again, if nobody has remembered that Toyah worked in the pub back in her early 20s as did Peter back at the same time as she did). Sean makes sure they know he will be there at their service. Sarah mentions they're out of tonics and Sean just happens to have the number of the delivery man in his phone so he calls, hoping he's making himself indispensable, I suppose!

In the booth, Sally recalls working behind the bar for awhile. Tim finds that amusing. Bet Lynch gets a shout out in the conversation. Fiz, Kirk and Beth come in. Fiz looks glum, not found anything for her class tonight. Gina tells her she might have something.

The stalwart Mr. and Mrs. are now on a photo shoot to commemorate their "first anniversary" (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, December 2015) when Norris took Mary to see Star Wars, which he protests he would never do. Nonetheless, she has them both dressed up for the occasion. Mary has her hair wound up and is dressed like Princess Leia and Norris has the robes of a Jedi on. They approach the bus stop but Craig wonders if they would have gone on the bus dressed like that. Turns out Mary has worn that exact outfit on the bus many times. She assures them it's a lot less trouble than the Chewbacca get-up. Why am I not surprised?

Gemma is in the Bistro waiting for Michelle. Daniel asks the editor if there's anything else she needs. She's left Daniel a good tip and promises to read his article when she gets back at the office. Robert seems taken aback when he hears her mention that Daniel was lucky to be witness to a stabbing. Off she goes. Daniel tells him what's happening, that he wrote an article, not for publication, to the editor. Robert is not best pleased. It better *not* be for publication. Why do I think that's what's going to happen? Robert's concerned about the connection to Rich getting out. Gemma listens with interest.

Todd tells Billy that Summer wants to sue the hospital for negligence because her father died there. But Todd gently explains that there isn't a case. He also says he encouraged her to think there might be one so he could get to know her better, make sure she's ok and make up for that stupid remark she'd overheard about the children's home. He apologizes for making things worse. Summer accepts the apology and thinks while it wasn't a nice to trick her, it was a nice thing to do just the same. Billy thinks they need to call her grandparents but she doesn't want them to know she was truant from the summer camp.

At the pub, the party is starting to get busy. Eva hasn't accompanied Aidan as she's at a wedding fair. Toyah is excited for Eva being pregnant. She then takes a short break to head to the ladies' room but hesitates a minute, looking concerned. Meanwhile, Leanne and Simon come in, with Oliver in tow. She asks Peter if Simon can stay with him and tells him about the situation. She asks Aidan if she can stay there but apparently there's junk in Si's old room and hers is flooded from a radiator leak. Peter offers her a room at the inn. Literally. He says Toyah will be ok with it. But Toyah is in the toilet, sobbing, taking a tampon out of the machine on the wall. (When she's probably got boxes of them upstairs, for free!) I guess we know there's no baby this time around.

Gemma is determined that Chesney should get the compensation he deserves and she knows just the man who can help him. To Sinead's annoyance she invites Adam round to their house to discuss the case.

In the Rovers Fiz is about to go off to her antiques course. She needs an object to take with her so Gina has come to the rescue with a rather dubious looking figurine. Kirk suggests she just lends it for the class but Gina is more than happy to sell it to Fiz for £40.

Toyah comes into the bar where she finds Peter cuddling Oliver. It's all she can do to hold it together when he tells her that Leanne and the baby are coming to stay for a few days but she makes out everything is fine.

In the Kabin Craig is taking photos of Mary and Norris posing with a large jar of bonbons when Bethany gets a call from the police. Rita's had enough. She tells Norris and Mary what they're doing amounts to fraud and she takes herself off to the Rovers.

Meanwhile Adam is trying to persuade Sinead and Chesney it's worth trying to get some money out of Robert. He points out that Chesney has suffered loss of earnings and, as Robert knows Rich, he bears a degree of responsibility. Sinead and Ches look like they might be coming round to the idea. Gemma is delighted.

Back in the Rovers Toyah's doing her best to cope while all around her things are busy and everyone else seems happy. Blissfully unaware of her sister's news, Leanne thanks her for letting them stay and says she'll be able to get in some practice with Oliver.

Out in the street Summer is ringing her granddad. Billy tells her she shouldn't have lied and he needs to take her home but Summer asks to see the new flat. Billy doesn't take much persuading and goes off arm in arm with Todd and Summer.

Adam goes over to the Bistro to have a word with Robert about the stabbing. Robert tries to make out it had nothing to do with him but Adam says they both know better than that. Michelle looks concerned as Robert takes Adam through to the back.

Round at the Rovers, most people are in party mood apart from Liz who's finding it hard to go back and Toyah who wouldn't be happy wherever she was right now. She makes an excuse to go to Dev's to buy some lemons. Leanne tells Steve she's moved in there for a while so he pops out the back to see Oliver. Gail comes in with her mother and starts mouthing off about Leanne and saying she wouldn't be happy about her moving in if she was in Toyah's shoes. Audrey says she's a harbinger of doom who ought to be wearing a black cowl and carrying a scythe.

In the Bistro Adam puts forward his case for compensation for Chesney and throws in what he knows about Rich, the drugs and his Daniel's involvement. This doesn't go down well with Daniel. Robert tells Adam he hasn't got a leg to stand on and they're not liable. Really, asks Adam, then why did Michelle give Chesney £200 this morning? Oops, looks like Michelle has just cost Robert a whole lot more money. Robert is not a happy man.

Toyah returns from Dev's to find the back room at the Rovers filled with Peter, Leanne, Oliver, Simon and Steve. She declines the offer of a cuddle with the baby and says she needs to get back to the bar. Leanne senses something is wrong.

Summer is having a picnic on the floor of Billy and Todd's flat. She tells them about her life with her grandparents. What with bible study three times a week and not being allowed to talk about her dad, it doesn't sound too good. Billy agrees with Todd that they have to do something.

It may be July but Mary has put up a Christmas tree and she and Norris are sporting festive jumpers. It's all part of their competition ruse. When Craig has taken his photos Bethany says she has to get home as the police are coming round to see her. Craig offers to go with her.

Norris wonders if Rita's right, perhaps it is fraud. Mary says they could always get married for real. Norris dismisses the idea out of hand. But Mary warms to her theme, this competition means a lot to her and she's desperate to find a way to get to South Africa and see Jude. She takes a deep breath, gets down on one knee and proposes. Norris says he must be mad but …. OK, he replies.

Back at the Rovers the customers are continuing to enjoy the drinks. Then the till gets stuck and a tipsy Beth staggers out of the ladies and announces the hand drier has fallen off the wall. Liz and Steve decide now would be a good moment to make their escape and head for the Flying Horse.

Fiz arrives back from her antiques class in tears. She was the laughing stock when she failed to notice the 'Made in Taiwan' sticker on the bottom of Gina's figurine. Sally makes her sister return the forty quid, otherwise she can start paying rent she tells her.

Leanne finds her sister in tears on the bench in the street. Toyah finally admits what's wrong, she's just found out she's not pregnant. Leanne tells her to talk to Peter, he'd understand. But after her experience with Toby, Toyah is worried and, besides, she doesn't want to spoil Peter's memories of the first night of owning the Rovers.

Bethany is talking to DC Lee at home and Craig is with her. The policewoman has good news – they've found laptops and phones all containing details of Neil's connection with Nathan and it's enough for the CPS to authorize charges being brought. A tearful Bethany wants to know if she would have to testify in court, she doesn't think she could face him again. The policewoman reassures her if it comes to that they can use a video link. Craig puts an arm round Bethany and tells her she's the bravest person he knows and he'll be with her every step of the way.

Daniel is stopped by a woman in the street. It's the editor from the Weatherfield Gazette. She loved his article and wants to publish it. But Daniel refuses, it was just a writing exercise he says and he gave his word that it wouldn't be used. However, Gemma overhears the conversation and the moment Daniel leaves she tells the editor she knows the whole story and the lad what got stabbed …

Toyah is sitting quietly in the back room when Peter comes in. He's so happy she doesn't want to spoil his mood and still doesn't tell him what's happened. Before returning to the party in the bar, Peter gives Toyah a kiss and tells her she's right, he is going to remember this night for the rest of his life …

Wednesday 26 July

Gemma and Adam are outside the medical centre and have a copy of the Gazette. Robert and Michelle walk past, but make a point of looking the other way. Chesney comes out and they show him the headline: "No Go Bistro! Local Eatery at Centre of Stabbing Investigation". Chesney looks worried, even though Gemma harps on about compensation, it feels wrong.

Peter finds Toyah sitting in the back room of the Rovers and asks her the result of the pregnancy test. She tells him she hasn't done it yet, so he suggests she does it now. She takes a breath and starts to tell him, but just then his phone rings, he's needed for a taxi fare, so off he goes, saying they'll do it later. As he goes out, Leanne comes in and takes one look at her sister. "You haven't told him?" she says. "I couldn't," says Toyah.

Over in the Bistro, Michelle and Robert are puzzled by the number of customers phoning in to cancel their bookings, when Daniel and Kate come in and show them the newspaper. Robert is furious, he realises that some of it is part of the article Daniel wrote, although Daniel says that Cindy went behind his back and published. Michelle is reading it, and wonders who this 'inside source' is that's being quoted. Daniel swears it wasn't him, but Robert is incandescent with rage and tells him he might just have cost him his business. He tells him to get out of his sight.

In the cafe, Adam is trying to push Chesney to pursue a claim against Robert. Chesney is reluctant and points out it wasn't Robert's fault. Adam says Robert knew the bloke, and it was on his premises. Chesney again says it doesn't feel right, but Adam scoffs. "Who cares, as long as you get what's due to you?" he says. Chesney gets cross as he realises that Adam has his own financial interests at heart here. But Adam presses on and asks how Chesney felt when he woke up this morning and knew he had to face the world. Vulnerable? He tells Chesney that money can't change what happened to him, but it can make things a whole lot easier, going forward. Eva has come in to the cafe and listens to all this with interest.

Billy and Todd are discussing Summer. Todd points out that she reached out to them, and just because she isn't being physically mistreated doesn't change the fact that she's miserable, and they need to sort it.

Back in the Bistro, Kate thinks the whole thing will be forgotten by the end of the week, but Robert thinks they'll be out of business by the end of the week. Adam comes in then, and asks for ten thousand pounds for Chesney. Michelle is incredulous, and Robert tells him he can either walk out or be carried out, and has to be restrained by Kate. "Ten grand," says Adam, "and this all goes away. I expect to hear from you soon."

In the medical centre, Liz is still trying to get the hang of the computer system. Moira tells her she's doing well – all things considered. Liz asks what she means. "Your lack of relevant experience and limited skill set," is the reply. As Moira walks away, Eileen comes in and Liz confides that Moira is doing her head in. "So what can I do for you, love?" she asks her friend. Moira pops up behind her and coughs. Liz takes a breath and starts again. "How can I help you madam?" says Liz. Eileen looks baffled. "Much better," says Moira, "remember, friendship is no substitute for a tight ship." Eileen has come to give blood, and also make an appointment for Pat, which Liz manages to do. Then they chat for a few moments and Eileen tells her that the Rovers won't be same without her.

Michelle goes into the office at the Bistro and tells Robert of yet another cancellation. She suggests that they use some of her Rovers' money and pay Chesney off. Robert is adamant they won't do that, and shouts her down when she tries to argue, but he's gloomy too, and says that it's always one step forward and two steps back, he thinks he's jinxed. She gets cross and tells him to stop whining and grow a pair. "Flippin' heck, I thought that Steve was high maintenance....." she says. Robert stares at her, and she immediately apologises, but he gets up and walks out.

Billy and Todd are visiting Summer's grandmother, who is very frosty and assures them that she knows what's best for Summer. Billy asks if she's sure Summer is happy, and Geraldine replies that Summer is fine. Todd tells her that Summer is not fine, she's feeling miserable and isolated. Geraldine then works out that they've had contact with Summer and doesn't believe that she went to them. Billy tells her that Drew wanted him to be part of Summer's life for a reason. Summer appears in the hall, but stops outside the living room door to listen. Geraldine tells him that whatever her son said when he was alive, it's irrelevant now. There will be no access, she won't let them drag that innocent girl into the filthy cesspit they inhabit! Billy tells her that Drew told him some of the things she did to him, and he hated her then, but now he just pities her. He goes on to say that Summer deserves the life Drew wanted for her, and he won't rest until she gets it. They get to their feet, saying they will see her in court. Geraldine says that if they are here to frighten her, they're more deranged than her son was. At that point Summer steps forward. "Don't talk about my dad like that," she says.

Michelle and Kate are talking in the Bistro. Michelle tells her that it's probably just well they've had cancellations, seeing as how the chef has done a runner. She tells Kate she might as well go home, there's no point in staying open.

Back at Geraldine's house, Summer tells her grandmother she talks about her Dad, Billy and Todd as if they're freaks. Geraldine tells her she won't discuss it, and turns to Billy and says that already the corruption has begun. Geraldine tells them to get out, or she's calling the police. Summer asks why she can't see them, like her dad wanted, and tells her gran that the way she talks isn't normal, none of it is normal. Just then Summer's grandfather, who has been sitting quietly throughout all of this, suddenly says that they can't force Summer to live with them. Then he gets up and gets a document out of a drawer, saying that the solicitor rang, Drew had changed his will, making Billy Summer's guardian. He hands the envelope over to Billy. "How could you!" says Geraldine. Summer's grandfather turns to her and says it was her father's wish, but it should be her decision. Summer walks over and stands between Todd and Billy.

Peter comes back to the Rovers and wonders where Toyah is, Leanne tells her she's popped out for a bit. He looks at Leanne and reckons Toyah already did the test without him, but Leanne tells him she had no need, her period started last night.

Eileen has come over to Billy and Todd's. They're a little nervous about suddenly becoming parents, but Eileen tells them they'll be fine. Summer comes out of her new room and Eileen tells her to go easy on them.

Eva is in the Rovers, where Leanne is walking about with the baby in her arms. Eva coos over the baby, a fact which doesn't go unnoticed by Toyah.

As Eva walks to the door, she sees Daniel looking at the article in the Gazette. She says that as long as it gets Chesney some compensation, who gives a monkey's? Daniel says that he does, and Adam doesn't care about justice, he just wants his 20 percent. Eva thinks he's wrong, she thinks Adam really cares. Daniel says he finds that hard to believe.

Leanne goes to put the baby to bed, as Toyah and Peter meet up behind the bar. He tells her to take the evening off and he'll make her some food. The penny drops and Toyah realises that Leanne has told him and is cross that they've discussed her and snaps that he should just marry Leanne again because clearly she is surplus to requirements.

Michelle is in the back room of the Bistro, trying to get Robert to answer his phone. Just then she hears a noise out in the restaurant and is startled. Picking up a heavy bottle of champagne as a weapon, she creeps out, looking around and then is shocked to see the letters RIP sprayed on the wall in bright red paint!

Friday 28 July

This is episode 9217. It was written by Joe Turner. The director was Tim Finn. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. When this aired I was elsewhere in Europe so my thanks also to ITV Hub for being able to watch a week old episode. Also please note that as I am doing two updates until we have new volunteers this will not be in the usual detail.

Toyah is finding Leanne presence at the Rovers very difficult - or more likely the loss of her chance of a baby. Peter is trying to be understanding, but is not very good at it. Peter assures her that they will win in the end. A bit later she finds Leanne dancing in the bar with Oliver and gently says she does not need Leanne to tell Peter news - she can do it herself. Toyah assure Leanne she knows how to cope. Toyah asks Leanne for some space. She phones the clinic and is going for an appointment later in the day - without Peter, which Leanne hears. Sarah comes in but she will be late for her shift as Gail is delayed coming back from the shops to babysit. Leanne then gets a message on her phone which leaves her looking quizzical.

Gina had had a postal delivery - Rosie cannot even remember what an envelope is called. Gina opens the envelope to extract what looks like a huge number of forwarded letters. Sophie comes in and reminds Gina about the money she is owed.

At the Bistro Michelle is being a scrubber (removing the RIP which had been painted in red) and Pat is changing the locks. Michelle assures Kate that it was probably just kids who got in - just a stupid joke. Meanwhile Robert did not come home and is not answering his phone. Once Pat has finished he refuses a free lunch - he has to go to a leaky radiator in Crimea Street. Michelle's phone goes - Robert is at the magistrates' court.

With Sophie earwigging Liz is telling Steve about how difficult Moira (Steve pronounces it Moora) is as a boss. Steve also calls her the snarling beast of Rosamund Street. Sophie denies being one of Moira's spies. Liz is thinking of calling her two faced - but she probably has far more. Liz refuses to quit the job. Later at work, Liz chats to our favourite doctor, Susan Gaddas, who it turns out is also scared of Moora! (She should be - watch out for Moora's famous tuna custard bake). Moora is not giving the doctor any respect - saying it needs to be earned and Susan has not done her paperwork! Moora also tells Liz off for gossiping with Susan! Later Liz tells Moora that in her experience running a pub a positive encouraging attitude really helped with staff morale. Moora responds that highly qualified professionals need completely different handling. Perhaps Elizabeth could stick to answering the telephone and booking appointments?

Todd is telling Tracy about Summer who is 13 - which is the same difficult age as Amy who tells Todd that privacy is important - no-one should be looking over their shoulders and asking daft questions. Todd reckons he and Billy understand teenagers and Tracy merely starts laughing. Todd says that Summer is super confident and self-sufficient. Amy says they are going to have their world totally destroyed. Then Tracy raises puberty and offers a joint masterclass provided by herself and Amy. Todd starts looking worried.

At the factory there is a production problem which Johnny solves by offering £100 to the person producing most garments by 4pm to meet the customer deadline.

Gail has Leanne round for coffee at Nick's request. We eventually discover that Leanne has been struck dumb when she opens an envelope from Nick containing a cheque for £25k. Apparently it is her share of the flat. Leanne did nothing to earn it. Gail was against Nick giving her the money as she makes clear. Gail says Nick insisted. Leanne however had not expected to be kicked out of the flat and then have to ask Toyah to take her in. Gail tells her this is better than the lottery and she has not even had to buy a ticket.

Angus (Summer's grandfather) has carefully arranged to hand over Summer's belongings which Billy and Todd bring to the flat without conflict with his wife. He wants Summer to be happy and hopefully Angus's wife Geraldine will come to the same view (although Hell might have to freeze over first). Summer is a keen book reader and she prefers real books to e-readers. Tracy turns up with Amy; we can see she is looking for free childcare but sells the idea of the two girls being the same age, will be at the same school, so need to get on. Amy is not amused at being dumped! We are reminded that Amy is lactose intolerant. The two girls eye each other.

Robert has returned with a story. He left the casino when he got mugged, losing phone and wallet. Police arrested him for being drunk. In court he was fined £200 for being drunk and disorderly (do they still do that?). Michelle, like the rest of us, is seeing a whole new character being generated in front of her eyes. He promises he will never let her down again. Clearly Michelle cannot easily rely on him. Robert admits to being a mess last night and he was a mess a long time ago. She wants to get back to the Bistro - but he does not want to leave her alone again (he needs to clean up as he has blood down his white shirt).

Leanne is going to give at least some of the money to Peter and Toyah for the next round of IVF. Except Peter does not know where Toyah is. Leanne does of course - she has gone to the clinic, although she admits she was not supposed to tell Peter.

At the clinic Toyah says she is feeling OK. However the doctor advises that as Toyah's endometrium is not developing the right thickness to support implantation there is no point in any further IVF cycles. The clinic is not willing to continue and the same will apply elsewhere. And the Doctor makes it clear that they have reached the end of this road - Toyah probably should see a counselor. She leaves the doctor's office and Peter has come into the clinic where me finds Toyah crying.

Amy and Summer are ignoring each other, one reading, the other on her phone. Billy and Todd suggest that Amy helps Summer unpack. Billy and Todd head out to get some tea. Amy offers to give Summer a makeover sorting out her eyebrows.

In t'Rovers Johnny comes across Gina, Sally, Izzy and Sean. Deadline achieved and surprisingly Gina has won the £100. Sophie witnesses the money being handed over.

Robert and Michelle head back to work. He has ideas for rebuilding the lost bookings. At the end of the Street a hooded guy throws a molotov cocktail at one of the Bistro signs and a fire starts. The hooded guy runs away with Robert in pursuit. Michelle screams after him.

Roll credits.

It probably will not happen but getting Steve and Moora together might prove interesting.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you very shortly.

Richard

This is episode 9218. It was written by Joe Turner. The director was Tim Finn. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. When this aired I was elsewhere in Europe so my thanks also to ITV Hub for being able to watch a week old episode.

We open in the back room at the Rovers where a disconsolate Toyah sits. Peter brings a poured glass of white wine and the rest of the bottle. He tells her none of it is her fault. She assures him that he is a great help and asks if he could tell Leanne what the clinic has said. Toyah says she wants to be on her own for a while, but she was glad Peter was there today. He tells her she can drink as much of the wine as she likes, he will carry her to bed if necessary. (Toyah by the way is wearing a very odd dress which looks more like a dressing gown!).

Out on the Street Zeedan is extinguishing the fire on the board and Robert returns unable to catch the toerag who started it. Michelle is in shock. She comes clean and tells Robert about the earlier message inside the Bistro.

Gina heads out through the Rovers back yard where Steve is sitting in the sun with a pint and fiddling with his phone. R'Toyota emerges with her wine and Steve asks if Peter is around - he is behind the bar she answers. Leanne is in the same place Toyah almost snaps at him. Steve calls her stroppy and then calms down and tells her how much little Oliver helps fix his bad moods with his cheeky face. This of course makes Toyah feel even worse and she stomps away into the Street.

Gina rounds into the Street at the corner of the Rovers and meets Sophie who insists on getting her £88 out of the £100 which Gina has just won.

Liz is "vaping" outside the medical centre when Toyah walks along. Liz can see she is distressed and says that as a nearly trained medical professional perhaps Toyah would like to talk, she is a good listener? They go into the medical centre for some tea. Inside Toyah reminds us that this was her seventh failure and that Peter has been a great support. She does not deserve him. Liz is not a fan of Peter - but she does know that he loves Toyah. She says she needs to stop chasing summat that is never going to happen, giving up on dreams is difficult. Liz reassures her that she might find a new dream. Toyah also reminds us she is a trained counselor - but cannot sort her own head out. Liz tells her talking helps and she is always prepared to listen. Toyah has also realised that having Leanne and Oliver in the Rovers is not helping. And Toyah knows she has to ensure she and Peter are all right. Moira emerges and Liz says she will go once she has sorted the remaining forms. Moira is impressed by Liz being conscientious.

Amy and Summer are not getting on (yet - I rather think they will). Amy outlines her single mother, part-time dad, half brother, but they are unlikely to be sharing clothes. Amy finds a brightly decorated box which Summer snatches from her and warns Amy that if she ever touches it again she will slap her. Summer calls Amy shallow, dim and vain - but at least she says what she thinks! Amy is unsure if that is an insult or a compliment. Summer is still scowling.

In the Rovers Peter has told Leanne who is very sympathetic. Toyah wants some space and a bottle of chardonnay. Peter wonders if this outcome might not be such a bad thing - taking on the Rovers and they are up to their eyes at the moment. And the IVF did not help Toyah's marriage - Leanne points out that Peter broke that up, she also assures Peter that R'Toyota loves him. But they do need each other. Peter says they are more of a mess apart. Leanne goes to check on Oliver and Steve is at the bar and needs a favour. Steve tells Peter about Liz's moaning about Moira and does not know if she is coming or going. Steve suggests that if Liz did a few shifts behind the bar it might be a solution. Peter is reluctantly talked into making the offer - even though he describes Liz as a backseat landlady - he does get all the airport runs and it would give Peter and Toyah some time to themselves! Steve reports Toyah looked a bit distressed earlier, Peter explains and Steve realises he has put his foot in his mouth.

Billy and Todd return to the flat. Amy emerges from the bedroom claiming that Summer attacked her and heads home to Tracy. Summer calls her a drama queen. Apparently Amy dissed Drew. Billy says violence is never the answer. Summer asks if she should turn the other cheek. Summer is sure Amy meant to upset her. She still thinks that Amy deserved the slap and she has no intention of apologising! Amy will not do it again. Summer takes her box to her room.

In the Bistro Robert and Michelle are talking about their problems with a couple of policemen whilst Toyah sits at the bar. The police offer a rapid deployment alarm. Robert is sure it is Rich trying to intimidate him. Of course the people described are not Rich as he would not undertake his own dirty work. The policeman tells them to be extra vigilant from now on. The police leave. Robert advises Zeedan and Kate to keep an extra wary eye for anything unusual. Robert is sure it will all blow over shortly. Michelle asks Robert what he is going to do if the police cannot stop this harassment.

After the break Rosie has joined Toyah at the bar and is her usual empty headed self. Toyah is waiting for Leanne. So Sophie goes on about being willing to do anything for Rosie. When Leanne gives Toyah a hug Sophie joins in, then hearing mention of a clinic she moves away!

At the Rovers Liz is asking Peter why he would insult her with such an offer. Liz immediately works out that Steve is behind this. She also replays Steve's earlier words to Peter when he sheepishly admits that Steve put him up to it. She denies she is a charity case. She says there may be a few teething problems - but she is a grafter. She denies talking to Toyah earlier. She assures Peter that they will do a good job with the Rovers. Liz tells him to look after her and he is not sure if she means the pub or Toyah - R'Toyota of course!

In the Bistro Leanne soon grasps that Toyah needs her, Simon and Oliver to move out, so that Toyah can plan a different future path. Leanne entirely understands. Leanne tells her about the £25k from Nick - she was going to offer it for more IVF - but she will use it for housing. Leanne tells Toyah to go and talk to Peter.

Peter meanwhile is investigating other treatments and other ways of having children. Gina meanwhile is reviewing a huge pile of bills. Steve comes in and sits with Liz who explains that Peter had offered her some shifts as he was finding it more difficult than expected. Steve cannot believe it. Liz tells him he has some fluff on his face - Steve leans towards her and gets a clip around the top of his eye. Peter is laughing as he watches this. Liz tells Steve off for interfering in her life! Liz likes moaning, so she will moan! Steve moans about Eileen every day - but does she do anything about it? As they argue Moira Pollock comes into the pub, looks around the unchanged environs and tells Liz and Steve that she had heard that it is looking much better under its new owners. (I told you to watch out for the tuna custard bake). She then asks Liz for a favour and not to wear that top again as it will give their patients a migraine in 10 minutes. But Liz likes the top. Moira suggests she wears something beige in future. Moira then offers to get Liz a drink. She asks for a large red wine. (Steve should certainly start chatting Moira up in my view). He refuses a drink. But has a broad smile on his face and leaves.

Michelle and Robert return to the flat and find that it has been turned over but nothing stolen. He calls the police.

Moira, drinking an orange juice, has sat down with Liz who asks if she knows that she used to run the Rovers. Yes replies Moira. Liz asks if Moira had thought her comment about the place being better now might have caused Liz some offence. Moira says not as Liz as a rhino skin - you only have to look at her to see that and besides Liz knows what Moira is like! Toyah and Leanne return to the Rovers and the former gives Peter a huge hug. R'Toyota says she will be OK. Leanne sends them to the back whilst she looks after the bar.

Billy, eating from a bowl of crisps, and Todd, eating from a bowl of different snacks, are on the sofa worrying ifSummer is OK. They agree to give it another 5 minutes before checking on her and will have to take Tracy kicking off when they see her. And Todd knows Tracy better than Billy. Todd reckons Amy was making a meal of it. Probably just pushing and shoving. Billy asks if they are out their depth. Todd agrees they are well out of their depth.

Peter has made a brew for Toyah. Peter decides to tell her about the research he has done on other treatments, fostering, adoption, third world adoption. Toyah does not want to know. She loses it and shouts NO at him. She just wants it all to stop. She cries, head in hands. Peter says sorry and holds her close to him.

Michelle tells Robert to leave the mess for the police to see. Oddly no sign of forced entry. So managed to get through the front door of the flats as well as the front door of the flat itself. Michelle points out that somehow Rich has managed to get someone in their home. Nothing taken. And the scare tactics are working as Michelle is scared stiff. And she knows Rich will get away with it. The police arrive. Michelle is worried about what will happen next. She sobs and the credits roll.

Do I sense some real changes? Liz and Steve bringing some light relief and does Moira have the hide of a rhino as well?

If they can make it work I can see Amy and Summer being real trouble as a duo.

Lot of online comment about Peter and Toyah not being the right people to run the Rovers. Toyah needs to find some proper large earrings and really get dug in. You cannot be miserable behind that bar. Sort it love and I reckon you will prove the doubters wrong. We are all waiting for Peter to fall off the wagon - I hope he has had it written into his new contract that that will not happen and we can see some real performance from him.

And I do not get Robert's character development - he was a carpet fitter; now a chef and has done a lot of drugs apparently. Sometime we need to be told that story - but honestly Michelle he is not to be trusted. Steve may be useless - but at least you know he is useless. Quick before someone else sees his good points!

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I am still very worried about Emily Bishop or perhaps that should be Eileen Derbyshire.

See you next week.

Richard

Monday 31 July

Written by John Kerr Directed by Ian Bevitt

Rich had an alibi for the night the Bistro had all that trouble. Michelle reckons he still could have had one of his mates to the job but they can't prove it. Robert feels bad for Michelle getting into all this bother. She's just glad he's there to protect her but when she hugs him, he has a rather strange look on his face. Not sure if it's guilt or something else. He gets ready for work, not anticipating his meeting with Adam and Chesney.

Eva is shocked to find out that Toyah has asked Leanne to leave. Leanne clarifies the situation and thinks it's probably best anyway, as having Oliver around is tough on Toyah who's just found out she can't have a child of her own. Eva does sympathize. Leanne asks if she and Oliver can stay with she and Aidan, just for a bit. Simon can stay with Peter in the pub. Eva gets distracted by Maria and Liam walking past. She smiles and waves a cheerful hello and then hisses an insult under her breath when Maria is out of earshot. But yes, Leanne can stay with her, of course she can. Never mind what Aidan thinks.

Beth irons Craig's uniform because he was going in to the station. Craig tells her it isn't a shift, just a meeting. Beth complains about getting up early to iron when she could have had a longer snuggle in bed. She then asks him about Bethany but he gets cranky about that.

Gemma and Rita are in the cafe for breakfast this morning. Rita is thoughtful, thinking about Norris and Mary's wedding. Kind of daft to get married for a competition. Adam and Chesney arrive to meet Robert. Robert tries to bargain over the 10 grand but Shona, who's back under the pinny in the cafe, drops a load of dishes behind Chesney who jumps like a cat on a hot tin roof. It's clear he's pretty nervy. Robert tries to get the amount negotiated by half. Adam thinks he must be joking. They argue but Chesney decides 5 thousand is fair. Robert warns that it might take him some time to raise the money. Adam tells him he's got 28 days and then scolds Chesney who just wants to put this all behind him.

Erica comes in the corner shop to get some milk. Dev is pleased to see her because Chesney isn't back to work and Cathy can't cover his shift today. Erica refuses to pitch in because she's starting her first shift at the Bistro today. How would it look if she ditched it? She accuses him of not wanting her to work at the Bistro. He denies it but she reckons he's got a funny way of showing it.

Robert and Michelle are now in the Bistro, open for business for the day. She finds out what happened at the meeting and that the amount was negotiated down. He mentions how jumpy Chesney is so feels it's the right thing to do but he hasn't got the cash. He refuses Michelle's offer to pay it. He'll sort it. She invites him out later after Erica starts her shift but he tells Michelle he's got another meeting and suggests she see if Maria is free. Zeedan brings some food out and Robert asks him to keep an eye on Michelle until he gets back. He then cleans out some cash from the till and leaves.

Todd, Billy and Summer have had a breakfast in the cafe as well. Todd tries to complain about his food but Billy contradicts him and tells Shona it was fine. Summer asks if they always bicker over meals. One says Yes and one says No! Tracy and Amy arrive just then to have a word about Summer's behaviour with Amy last week. Summer insists she's not sorry and the two girls sling insults for a minute or two. Tracy's threat about her cousin the lawyer is countered with Summer's guardian having God on her side. Amy says she better start praying and Tracy leads her away. Billy and Todd both gently scold her for hitting Amy.

Leanne has dropped Oliver (played by a different baby, one with dark hair but equally cheeky and cute!) and she's told him she has to move into Eva's. Steve starts to chide her about Oliver's routine and him crying at night and he's read an article about "controlled crying" but.... Leanne interrupts because she's stressed and has to start packing and moving her stuff.

Maria was free and has joined Michelle for a bottle of wine in the Bistro. They talk about disasters in their lives, Michelle admitting the Bistro isn't doing all that well. Maria tells Michelle she's downloaded a dating app and shows her a few likely candidates. Michelle doesn't think much about the first two but discovers that her ex, Will, is using the same app. She encourages Maria to go for a date with Will, she doesn't mind at all. Maria swipes and matches!

Robert, meanwhile, is in the casino.

Craig is in the corner shop looking moody and staring at one of the shelves. Dev wonders if he's ever going to decide. Sophie comes in with a cheerful hello but Dev wonders why so happy! What a downer! Sophie is in a good mood, Kevin has had an offer on the second garage space. Dev is unimpressed. He tells Sophie about his staffing problems but she says she's still got 3 hours of jobs to do. Craig jumps at the chance and offers to do her windows if she wants to work for Dev. Is he trying to swerve that meeting? Sounds like it. Sophie and Dev negotiate a salary. She asks where Erica is. Dev admits things are a bit bumpy there but Erica has started a new job in the interests of having her own space.

Adam sees Eva and tells her that the paperwork she gave him was no help and he needs her to get the computer hard drive for him. She figures they'd know it was her since she's only been in the office a couple of days but she'll try. He also offers to check over her employment contract to make sure Aidan isn't trying to pull a fast one. She realizes he might be right and feels a right fool. Adam assures her she's not gullible, she just thinks the best of folk.

Gemma brings she and Rita out a cup of tea from the back room of the Kabin. Rita notices the "Little Miss Trouble" mug of Gemma's and says it's perfect for her and asks where she bought it. Gemma looks at her and reminds her that she bought it. Rita realizes her mistake. Mary and Dev come through the door. Dev is buying a Good Luck card for Erica for her first day (something Sophie had urged him to do, wish Erica good luck).

Todd has given Summer over to Eileen for a few hours' shopping. Billy asks if he managed to get Summer to apologize to Amy. He says he did, eventually, and now that they have a couple of hours to themselves...Billy pleads his paperwork but also says that he checked Summer's room because she said she hadn't unpacked fully, and remembered she said something about a box Amy was snooping in. He found the box and tells Todd to look inside. It's a lot of odds and ends, including photos of her and Drew. She hasn't put any of them up in her room. Todd wonders if she's still hurting too much but Billy thinks maybe she doesn't feel like it's her home yet.

Michelle has shown Erica the ropes and Erica is quite confident that she'll be fine. Erica also flirts mercilessly with Zeedan which is a bit creepy. Dev and Mary arrive, surprising Erica. Dev comes bearing his card and they both have wide smiles on, planning to stay for lunch to cheer Erica on. She doesn't look impressed.

Robert doesn't seem to be having much luck. His phone rings and it's Michelle. He gets her off the phone as quick as he can but she hears a croupier in the background calling for bets to be placed. She quickly grabs her bag and tells Maria she has to go, will update her later. Elsewhere, Erica confronts Dev and Mary about why they're there and even though they say they're supporting her, she tells them to behave. When Zeedan finds out from Maria that Michelle left, he goes running out the door after her but she's already driven off (since when did she have a lovely car? Did she buy it with her divorce settlement?)

Tracy comes into the cab office. Steve hushes her because Oliver just fell asleep. He tells Tracy about Leanne changing abodes. He tells Tracy Leanne's stressed because he was criticizing her for moving so often and unsettling Oliver. Tracy insults Leanne but does have a modicum of sympathy, after being dumped, lost her home and bringing up a baby alone on 2 hours sleep a night. Steve realizes he's got groveling to do.

Robert tries to get more money out of his account via the casino cashier but is having a bit of trouble.

Chesney finds Sophie in the corner shop. He realizes Dev's staffing issues are down to him. Craig returns, having done Sophie's window cleaning. Chesney asks him about the meeting. Craig admits he doesn't want to go to the meeting. He tells the two of them that the way he got the evidence might have cost him his job. Sophie urges him to face up to the music.

Steve finds Leanne outside the cafe. He apologizes for being insensitive and then offers her a place to stay with him. He's asked Liz to stay with Erica (though where she's going to stay in that house already bursting at the seams, I don't know). It might give Oliver some stability and they can share the child minding. Leanne thinks it's a great idea and accepts though seems to think the offer certainly came out of left field.

Back at the casino, Robert is betting and hoping for a win. Michelle arrives. Not your lucky day, mate.

Michelle is not impressed to discover Robert has been gambling and she makes her feelings very clear as she gives him a dressing down in the middle of the casino.

Back on the Street Leanne and Steve are attempting to settle down with a cuppa and the papers and put Steve's plan for "controlled crying" into practice but he's the one finding it very hard not to leap up every time Oliver makes a sound.

In the Bistro Maria's dithering about whether she should go on a date with Will so Erica makes the decision for her. She takes Maria's phone and accepts the request. Meanwhile her own love life is in a downward spiral. She confirms with Liz it's fine for her to move in. She can share her room and Dev can kip on the sofa. Erica confides to Liz that everything Dev does annoys her and she thinks the relationship is terminal.

Round at Billy and Todd's they are putting Summer's photos up on the wall in the hope of making her feel more at home. But when Summer comes in she's furious. She tells them her stuff is private and storms off to her room and slams the door.

Dev is back at work where Sophie is standing in for Erica. He casually asks her for the name of the person who's put in an offer to buy Kevin's garage and then goes through to the back to make a phone call. Gemma comes in to buy a bottle of vodka. She's followed by Bethany. Sophie asks whether she's heard from Craig following his meeting with the police as she knows he might lose his job over what happened. Gemma declares that's bang out of order - he did a good thing! Bethany's upset but Sophie and Gemma try to reassure her this isn't her fault. Craig did it because he's her mate, Gemma tells her.

Back in the Bistro, Erica is flirting outrageously with Zeedan and Kate can't resist winding him up about it. Kate then asks Luke if he's going out again with Vicky. No, he says, he's dumped her. Alya seems pleased which doesn't go unnoticed by Luke. It looks like the two of them will be having a cozy night in and, since it's his turn to cook, Alya says she hopes to have her "low quality dinner" on the table by 6.30.

In the Rovers Will is on his date with Maria while Aidan is talking to Toyah at the bar. Aidan and Maria keep glancing across at each other. Aidan then tells Toyah that Leanne has moved in with Steve. She looks worried until he explains it's only so that they can sort out Oliver's crying.

Gemma is sitting with Chesney in the Rovers when Robert comes in with an envelope full of cash. It's the full five thousand they agreed. Gemma's eyes light up – she offers to act as Chesney's bodyguard for a mere £500. Chesney declines her offer. He looks decidedly unhappy about taking the money.

Robert is coming back home along the street when, to his horror, his sees Michelle's car has been vandalized and the driver's window smashed in.

Robert comes bursting into the flat in a panic, worried Michelle has been hurt but she has no idea what the problem is. He apologises for lying to her, then fails to mention her car's been smashed up. He adds that he won enough money to pay Chesney. Michelle is furious and gives him a lecture about all the mistakes he's made and tells him he keeps making one bad decision after another. Robert is contrite and says it's due to his pride, he wants to try and fix things. Michelle doesn't think she can take much more and insists there's no more lying. Robert agrees, gives her a hug and then tells her to stay and relax while he goes off to "sort out a few things" and fetch a bottle of wine.

Leanne arrives back at Steve's with some shopping to find he's given up with the controlled crying plan and is playing with the baby on the floor. She joins him and the two of them coo over Oliver. Steve tells Leanne he has her smile and she replies he has her eyes. They are starting to look like the perfect family unit.

Round at Billy and Todd's it's far from happy families as Summer is refusing to come out of her room. Todd tries tempting her out with cakes but Summer cries that she wants her dad. Todd isn't about to be defeated and says that with Billy's brains and his good looks they're bound to sort something out.

Maria is still enjoying her drink with Will in the Rovers while Aidan continues to watch jealously from his place by the bar. Kate comments they look happy together. Aidan can stand it no longer and drags Kate out before she's had time to finish her drink.

Dev takes Erica to one side as he has something to ask her. He explains he's had an offer to buy the gym but it's from Clarence West, the same person who was going to buy Kev's garage. Dev's looking worried as he knows he's put one over on Kev and he asks Erica what she thinks. Erica reckons it's business and her eyes light up when she realises how much money Dev will now have – enough to take her to the Maldives she suggests, coquettishly. Suddenly she's changed her mind about wanting to talk to Dev about their relationship …

Alya arrives home with a portion of chips, expecting to find Luke has made the usual beans on toast for tea. But she's secretly delighted to discover he's cooked a risotto which just happens to be her favourite meal. She pops out of the room as the doorbell rings. It's Robert, looking for a favour. He needs Michelle's car sorting before she sees it. He gives Luke a handful of cash and asks him not to mention it to Michelle. Luke apologises to Alya – she'll have to enjoy the risotto on her own.

Craig comes home from his meeting at the police to find Sophie, Gemma, Bethany and Chesney all waiting for him. They think he'll need their support after what has happened and are ready to cheer him up with pizza and beer. But it turns out they needn't have worried. Craig has been let off with a warning and kept his job. He looks thrilled when a relieved Bethany flings her arms round him and gives him a big hug.

Liz pops home to collect something and finds a scene of domestic bliss. She comments that it's a shame they've only got this short time together as a family. Leanne and Steve exchange awkward glances.

Robert arrives back after his visit to Luke but he's forgotten to buy the wine he promised. However, Michelle has calmed down after her outburst and she tells Robert she thinks what he did for Chesney was nice. She says that we all make mistakes. Robert asks if Michelle still loves him. "Of course I do," she replies as they cuddle up together. Michelle tells Robert she's thinking of going to visit her friend Lucy in Leeds tomorrow and is surprised when he asks to go with her – she thought he hated Lucy. But Robert doesn't want to leave Michelle's side. Michelle says she's feeling much better now that Chesney's been paid off and they've had no more threats ….
