Part 1 Written by Ella Greenhill Directed by Suri Krishnamma
Part 2 Written by Cameron McAllister Directed by Suri Krishnamma

Anna is still looking out for Seb and his siblings secretly, supplying them with groceries, washing bedsheets and lying to Faye about it. Seb doesn't tell Faye, either, not wanting his home life to be public even to someone that's supposedly his girlfriend. Anna takes the groceries and supplies to Seb's mother Abi who looks a bit bedraggled and in the kitchen she hides a flask of booze in her dressing gown pocket before coming back to the lounge. She heads upstairs for a nap while Anna is there but Anna sees the bottle and gives her a hard time for drinking while looking after her kids. Like water off a duck's back, criticism to this woman. It helps her sleep, that's all. Anna is shocked at her behaviour.

She later gives Abi a mouthful of grief about her lifestyle but Abi is unrepentant. Seb gets home and shows concern for the children. After Abi decides a bath is in order, Seb tells Anna that his mother is or was a heroin addict and he's seen her dealer hanging around. He's scared she's not going to stay clean. Oh, great.

Tim knows what Anna is doing and he's worried that Anna's going to get in over her head. Anna returns to apologize to Abi for interfering but Abi threatens to report Anna to the police if she comes round again. She sees Seb later at Number 13 where he's brought his washing. Anna tells him what happened with his mother and she tells him that Faye's mother was an addict. She thinks she can still help Seb and his family when his mother isn't around. Seb seems very relieved to have the support he's not getting from his mother.

Daniel is apparently working part time for the newspaper as a freelance journalist but he's not having much luck. Freelance means you find your own work so why is he complaining that the editor isn't giving him any assignments? Anyway, in the cafe, Phelan overhears Daniel moan and mentions about a former Bistro worker that wrote vampire fiction. How does he know that? Oops! He offers the excuse that he was his landlord. Doesn't really follow but Daniel seems to have accepted it. Later, he overhears Yasmeen make a caustic remark to Phelan about the development scam and his "mate" Vinny. Daniel finds out more detail from Zeedan. Looks like his curiosity is piqued and he might just follow that thread a bit and see where it takes him. He's going to get more information from Yasmeen, too. That does not bode well.

Colin is still schmoozing Norris over the sale of the Kabin. As he's supposed to be a temporary character, I don't think the sale will go through in the end but it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. In any case, Colin is driving Norris mad with boredom with his wittering on and on. In the Kabin, in the pub, he follows him around.

Rita seems intent on spending all her money since you can't take it with you. She is meeting with the doctor tomorrow and seems to be quite sure the outcome isn't going to be good. She's offering Gemma a shopping trip and a splash up lunch. She does have a doctor's appointment ahead of further investigation tomorrow, so she says and she's acting like it's all ok.

Rita tells everyone that the appointment was fine, standard stuff about when to be at the hospital etc. She splashes out on champagne but Colin intrudes his obnoxious self. Rita doesn't mind, she wants a word. She wants all the paperwork drawn up asap. Colin proceeds to get drunk on Rita's champagne, as you might expect. Rita later comes out onto the cobbles on her own and surveys the street where she's lived a great deal of her life, and she looks scared. She then tells Gemma she wanted to spoil her friends for once but she's holding back the sobs. She and the Street have a few words. It's clear she doesn't think she's going to survive.

Unemployment is not good and all the factory girls are getting bored. They spend their time drinking tap water in the pub or watching daytime tv. Fiz comes up with an idea of making head scarves for children out of fun patterned material. Sounds like a good idea. Alya suggests setting up one of those online crowd funding schemes to raise money for the supplies. Apparently if you don't meet your target, you get nothing. Sounds like a good idea but when Eva offers to donate on Beth's suggestion,Adam sticks an oar in where it doesn't belong, accusing them of bullying Eva.

Adam shows up to Eva's flat later with booze (rum and coke, that's a bit different at least than the usual wine or vodka) to comfort her. The drinks seem to perk her up and she's reluctant to see him leave. She coerces a heartfelt admission from him that he's in love with her. She takes the rebound road and ends up in a clinch.

Gary and Nicola cross paths in the cafe and he apologizes for being a bit of a twit the other day. Love 'em and leave 'em Windass. He makes sure she knows he loves Sarah and that's who is important in his life. Nicola also regrets what happened between them and will keep their dirty little secret.

In the biggest storyline tonight, it's the day of the trial. Nathan really pours it on with Mel, promising her the world and all her wildest domestic dreams. She asks him if he loves her and he does a quick step and a huge avoidance complete with a bit of passive aggressiveness before getting gentle and telling her she's the only one for him. You and me always, baby. As long as she stops Bethany from getting to court. His control over her is complete in spite of her occasionally showing cracks in the facade when she seems to be nearly convinced by Bethany but she's going to do as ordered. She pretends she will go to the police and make a statement and insists Bethany come with her but only Bethany, nobody else, getting very nervous when Sarah offers to drive them in Audrey's car.

Audrey's car still gets used because Mel drives them off after Craig checks up on Bethany. but she drives to a deserted area by a rail track and attacks the younger girl, threatening her with a crowbar and dragging her off.

The next thing we hear is that the trial start is delayed because the Judge was on a train that's been delayed because of a fatality on the train line. Sarah paces at the courthouse waiting for Bethany. Where is she? Craig is with the police that are attending the incident and they show him a woman's necklace and it looks very much like Bethany's. Surely his heart drops but we viewers know that Nathan gave the same necklace to every one of his girls and women. Is it Mel's or Bethany's? Did she and Bethany fight, with Mel ending up dead? Craig comes back from viewing the teenage body and vomits. Oh dear.

No, Mel apparently dragged Bethany into a deserted shack and was keeping her there. Bethany tried to get her to see that Nathan kept her with him, not because he loves her but to use her to keep all the other girls in line and make them feel safe, reel them in. Mel has Bethany's phone and keeps rejecting calls from Craig. She won't hear Bethany, she's determined that Nathan will always take care of her. Bethany's tearful attempts at getting through to her seem like they might be working in spite of Mel's denials. Maybe she's crumbling. She finally listens to one of Craig's messages. The dead girl was Lara, the 14 year old Bethany tried to get to testify against Nathan. It looks like she jumped in front of the train and killed herself. Mel's resolve seems to crack. She pulls Bethany out of the shack, saying "This wasn't supposed to happen".

Nathan is told that Bethany hasn't shown up and that little bit of worry leaves his face, he's now cockier than ever. But he's going to get a big surprise. Mel has driven Bethany to the court, or as near as, and hands back her phone. She finally faced the guilt and her part in the whole scheme. She still refused to be a witness. She is too much a guilty party. Bethany gave her access to her debit card and the money in it, not a large amount but in hopes that Mel could find a way to make a fresh start. Mel tosses her own identical necklace out the window and Bethany goes to face her tormentors. (I thought it was Audrey's car but it can't be. Must be hers or Nathan's, I guess)

Bethany faces Neil and Nathan in a fabulous showdown, face to face instead of by video link. She's nervous and wobbly but she tells the court everything even though Nathan stares at her or makes faces like he can't believe the things she's managed to come up with, trying to shake her. Neil looks a bit more nervous but the vibe we see is between Nathan and Bethany. It's really difficult for Sarah to hear, too. Her testimony is at times tearful and always heartfelt. The cross examination is tough and insidious. There's also a court artist drawing Bethany and I'm pretty sure that's not legal in this sort of case but never mind that. The defense really tears her testimony apart Bethany thinks she's blown it. We'll find out on Wednesday what the outcome is.

Wednesday 4 October

Sarah, Bethany and Gary are sitting outside the court, Bethany's nervous and thinks she did really badly. Gary tells her she was brilliant. Along the hallway, Craig is telling his mum she can go now. He tells her he's got to remember what happened to Bethany and he can't be dealing with Beth fretting.

Anna has been babysitting Seb's little brother and sister, and just after he gets back they hear his mum coming in the front door. Anna rushes out of the back, dropping her purse on the way. Luckily, he sees it and kicks it out of sight.

Norris, Gemma and Jenny are worried, Rita has disappeared, and Gemma is convinced that she has no intention of having the operation.

In the cafe, Yasmeen is talking to Daniel about Pat and the flat conversion. Just then Pat and Eileen come in, so, while Eileen is at the counter, Daniel goes over to talk to Pat about the Calcutta Street development. Pat fixes him with a steely stare and won't discuss it. When Daniel goes back over to Yasmeen, she remarks that it touched a nerve.

Adam comes into the cafe , and as he's ordering, Eva comes in behind him. She takes one look and turns and runs out again.

Back in the court, it's Craig's turn to testify, and Neil's barrister tries to imply that Craig was just out to make a name for himself, and tries to trip him up. Craig tells them that he'd noticed that Sergeant Clifton had visited Bethany's house many times, but not logged any of the visits. Being nervous, he then makes a mistake with the time, saying 8pm instead of 8am, and then gets very flustered.

Back in the cafe, Eileen is at the table with Pat now, and, in front of her, Pat is charm itself and talks freely to Daniel about the development scheme. Eileen is hopeful that if the Gazette runs the story, they may be able to get some of Jason's money back, but Pat is adamant that Vinny has disappeared without a trace and the whole thing is a non-starter.

Back in the court, Craig is still being grilled and somewhat ridiculed by the barrister, and it's put to him that all he wanted to do was impress a pretty girl and make a name for himself at the station. Nathan sits there and smirks.

Craig is outside the courtroom, upset and angry with himself, he feels he should have done better. Bethany's brief tells him he did well. Bethany comes up and he tells her that the jury have heard three other solid accounts, from Shona, David and Mary and he's quietly optimistic.

The factory girls are in the pub, drinking water and looking at some designs for reversible children's head scarves. Eva is serving behind the bar, and talking to Izzy, when Adam comes in so she immediately ducks down to the floor. Izzy is puzzled and calls out to her, so Adam knows she's there. She stands up, looking somewhat abashed, and mutters something about the pipes. Just then Gemma comes in and shouts out that Rita is missing and if anyone sees her they must let her know.

Daniel is talking to his editor about his investigation into Pat and the flat development. She tells him to keep digging.

Eva is struggling with a difficult conversation with Adam, telling him she doesn't want to be anything but friends. He tells her she's got under his skin, swigs his drink and goes.

Seb arrives at Faye's house and asks if Anna is in. Faye tells him she's never in these days, she's been working long hours. He asks her to hold his jacket while he nips up to the toilet, and in hanging it up she discovers Anna's purse in his pocket.

Neil Clifton is on the stand, denying everything and saying he's a good police officer. The barrister accuses him of plying Bethany with alcohol and having sexual intercourse with her when he was supposed to be protecting her. He starts to say that she came on to him, when the barrister interrupts and asks how old his eldest daughter is. Clifton tells them she's 17, but reckons Bethany looked older.

Phelan goes down to the cellar to see Andy. He gives Andy a tablet and tells him to swallow it, but when he isn't looking Andy slips it into his shirt pocket. Andy is still telling him he could go and get a replacement prisoner for him, he'll get Andy's guaranteed silence and he'll get his life back. Pat tells him it's too risky, it isn't going to happen.

Seb comes down from the bathroom to find Faye sitting at the table. He takes one look at her face and asks if he's done anything wrong. She starts waving the purse at him as Anna comes in. "Hey, you found it!" says Anna, and asks if she'd left it in Dev's. Seb mutters that she did, and Dev asked him to give it to her. Faye is suitable chastened and apologises to Seb for thinking he'd stolen it.

Daniel has gone to the derelict house and sees Pat coming out. He tells him he's got a few more questions. "You don't mind, do you?" he asks. Pat looks grim and starts breathing heavily.

Nathan's brief is trying to persuade him not to give evidence and when he asks why, she tells him it's his demeanour, but Nathan's not having any of it, he wants his moment in the witness box.

Jenny, Gemma and Norris are still in the flat, worried about Rita, when she lets herself in. She tells them she's not having the operation.

Nathan has now taken the stand. Shona and David sit and watch, and Shona is worried. Nathan is going to come over as Mr. Nice Guy. "This is going to be Oscar winning," she says.

Anne Logan.

Nathan tells the court that Bethany pursued him after he saved her from a drugs overdose.

Rita locks herself in her bedroom. Norris packs Gemma and Jenny off so that he can talk her round.

Phelan is angry that Nicola gave Daniel the house's address. He refuses to answer Daniel's questions about Michael Rodwell but accidentally points him in the right direction by assuming that he's spoken to Anna.

Rita tells Norris she'd rather go quickly than face a long decline. She's scared of becoming a shell of her former self and becoming a burden on her friends.

Nathan says he felt responsible for Bethany as she was so messed up. He denies burning her with the cigarette and claims she self-harmed.

Daniel asks Anna about Michael. She advises him to forget about the Calcutta Street scam as Michael paid for it with his life.

Todd tells the factory girls that they haven't made any money because their crowd funding page is boring. Beth wants to use Hope's cancer as a sob story but Fiz and Tyrone are against it.

Norris shows Rita how much their friendship means to him and tells her he'll be there for her whatever happens.

Sarah worries that Nathan's crocodile tears will convince the jury. He continues to deny that the three men in Bethany's room paid him in exchange for sex with her but the prosecution lands the killing blow by asking him about the texts he sent asking for the usual price and the money found on him which was traced back to ATMs where the men made withdrawals.

Daniel questions Todd next, who tells him that Phelan had nothing to do with the scam.

Rita changes her mind and decides to undergo he surgery. She kisses Norris before going into the operating theatre.

The jury reach a verdict. Nathan is found guilty of rape and conspiracy to commit rape, the other men are convicted of rape. Bethany cries with relief.

Rita is back from her surgery. She's asleep and hooked up to monitors. Gemma and Jenny sit by her bedside, drawn together by their love for a woman who means so much to them both.

Phelan makes his daily visit to Andy who makes his usual plea to be released and then asks for more painkillers. Phelan remarks he seems to be getting through a lot of those but he obliges with another packet and throws in a bottle of Scotch for good measure.

Round at the Platts' they're wishing Shona a happy birthday. She seems genuinely delighted when Gail gives her a gift of a white jacket, despite the fact that the others point out it's one of her old cast offs. Shona's face drops momentarily when she receives a birthday greeting text from Dane but she brushes it off and tells David it was just an old mate.

Phelan arrives back on the street to discover that Daniel has been delivering notes to everyone, asking if they know anything about Vinny's disappearance. Eileen thinks it's a good thing but Todd understands the implications. Phelan tells Todd not to worry, he'll take care of Daniel …

Back at the hospital Gemma and Jenny are delighted when Rita comes round and recognizes both of them. She asks if the doctors have said anything. Jenny tells her they've removed the tumour but now they have to wait for the rest results. Jenny is more upset than Rita who seems to have come to terms with what might be.

Pat goes into the Bistro to settle a couple of people straight. First he has words with Gary about his interest in his daughter and then he moves on to Daniel and his leaflets. Daniel says that the truth has a way of coming out but he clearly doesn't realise quite what he's taking on with Pat Phelan.

Tyrone is confused when Yasmeen turns up at the garage, gives him a hug and hands him some money for "poor Hope". She's seen the Crowd-funding page on-line and thought it had something to do with Hope's illness coming back. Ty is mystified – it doesn't have anything to do with Hope he tells her. Yasmeen takes back her money.

Gary, Sarah and Bethany are in the cafe. Bethany is worried that everyone is looking at her after the trial. She's also worried about Mel but at least she's now taken the money from her account she says. Sarah reminds Shona they're meeting in the Bistro later to celebrate her birthday and then she, Gary and Bethany leave. Meanwhile Dane has come in for a word with Shona. Todd overhears him demand she gives him the money she won. Shona refuses, saying she's saving it for Clayton but Dane makes it clear he'll be back.

Phelan overhears Yasmeen telling Daniel she's delighted he's following up the story of the dodgy development. Then Daniel gets a phone call. It sounds like a lead and he jumps into a taxi. Phelan gets into his van to follow him.

Daniel's destination is a nursing home. He goes in as Phelan draws up in his van outside.

In the Kabin Gail and Eileen ask Colin for news of Rita. He has the sensitivity of a wrecking ball but fortunately Jenny comes in at that moment and updates them. She's upset and the three women hug, while Colin hovers awkwardly behind them. He's more concerned whether Rita will still be able to sell him her flat and go off on a round the world trip like she planned.

Phelan goes into the nursing home but he has to blag his way past the security at reception. He manages to catch a glimpse of the visitors' book and sees Daniel has gone to see a Flora McArdle. When they ask for some I.D. he hands over a passport in the name of Mr Frost. The woman on the desk directs him to his "auntie Flora's" room.

Bethany is still feeling traumatized by everything that's happened and she's having a heart to heart with Sarah who suggests she needs something to take her mind off things. Perhaps a trip to the cinema or some baking? Clearly it will take more than that. How fortunate that Gary comes in at that moment with a surprise: three business class tickets for a trip to Milan. They leave in a few hours and he's even arranged for Sarah to get time off. Bethany is thrilled and jokes that Gary must be on a guilt trip, perhaps he's cheated on her mum or something? Sarah throws her arms round Gary and asks what she'd do without him.

At the nursing home Phelan takes a bunch of flowers out of a vase in the corridor and then hovers outside the room of Flora McArdle. The door is open and we can see Daniel is talking to her.

Back on the street, David has gone to collect a car he's buying from Ty at the garage. As Ty points out, the two of them don't have the best track record when it comes to cars but they both seem cool about it.

Fiz arrives with Ty's sandwiches and he asks her about the Crowd Funding page. Fiz checks it on her Smartphone and is shocked to see a photo of her daughter with this words "Please help us support Hope" on the front page. They are both furious at what has been done behind their backs.

Shona goes to see Todd. She tells him she plans to withdraw her money and hand it over to Dane but she wants somewhere safe to keep the cash in the meantime and asks if he'll look after it in his office. And she doesn't want David to know. Todd offers to turn the legal screws on him but Shona just wants Dane out of her life and thinks this is the best way to do it.

Rita's illness is bringing people together. In this case it's Eileen and Jenny who are having a cup to tea in Roy's Rolls. Eileen tells Jenny she looks knackered and advises her to go home for a sleep rather than rushing straight back to the hospital.

Andy has a row of painkillers laid out in front of him. He's crying as he starts to swallow them, washed down with the bottle of Scotch.

At the nursing home Phelan slips out of sight as Daniel leaves. As soon as the coast is clear he goes into Flora's room and hands her the flowers. He asks her about Daniel but she's very confused and obviously suffers from dementia. Phelan spots a photograph on the side. Flora's eyes light up. This is something she can remember – the photo is of her son, Harvey. Phelan tells her he knows him as Vinny. Flora says he uses lots of different names, it has something to do with his work. She misses him, she says. "Me too," replies Phelan

This is episode 9268. The writer for this episode was David Isaac and the director was Tim Dowd. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Flora McDonald is the woman who helped engineer the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Scotland after the Battle of Culloden. Oh whoops wrong soap - Flora McArdle is the mother of the award winning Harvey (better known to the inquiring Pat as "Vince" - so he did not know his old mate very well did he?). Award winning you ask - so Flora has been told by the young journalist from the Gazette and luckily it is Flora's birthday next Friday and Harvey always calls her on her birthday so he can be told about his award!

Shona has told Roy the weekly wifi is "Beefcake" - because as he tells Beth it reminds Shona of him! He is assuming it is a joke! Beth logs onto the "Hope" fund raising page as an angry Fiz arrives; the latter after a tussle gets to see the page. Beth reminds her just how hard it is for the out of work factory girls. Beth has been going to the foodbank. Beth admits it is wrong and agrees to take Hope off. When she looks at the page she sees the donations have reached £300. "StickyDaz44". She pleads with Fiz to let it run.

Also in the cafe is Daniel and the editor from the Gazette. Turns out the editor (Cindy Watson) knows "Mike" - an ex-copper who has a lot of contacts. The police spoke to Flora when "Vinny" disappeared but got nothing from her. The editor congratulates him on being a proper little Sherlock and puts her hand on his knee, he looks startled and she asks if he lives nearby!

In the Bistro, David, Gail and the children are waiting for Shona. The somewhat thickset Dane Hibbs comes in and asks for a table for one. David is trying to explain why a good man like Robert is in a prison like Clayton. He settles down to watch the family.

Colin is hassling Todd to go and visit Rita and get the deal signed for the flat. Todd counsels against it initially - but Colin does not want the flat tied up in probate and if it is not signed then Todd might be considered negligent. Todd agrees to go at 5 this afternoon. Shona bursts in and Colin is ever more creepy. Colin goes and Shona hands the money over to Todd. She is wearing a black leather jacket and jeans.

Beth is back at home and Craig is working on the 24 hour clock. He is upset - he still has a thing for Bethany but she merely kissed him on the cheek. Beth tells him he needs to speak to her, Craig does not feel it is the right time and he is nervous. She tells him to be brave again.

Andy is dosing himself with whisky and tablets in the dark. He is writing a farewell note to Steph.

Ty asks Michelle if the Bistro needs Fiz for any work - but they are not recruiting at the moment. Shona arrives wearing the stunning white blazer (and jeans) and joins the family before spotting the glowering Dane sat in the corner.

Pat in angry mode stomps to Daniel's front door and rings the bell, insisting Daniel opens up. When he does Pat sticks his foot in the door and guesses that Daniel has a young lady upstairs - we see Cindy listening to the conversation and she is obviously unclothed. (Like father like son!). Pat reminds Daniel he had asked him not to make him angry but he could not help himself. Pat denies any involvement in the scam over the flats. Pat proposes a deal - Daniel stops his investigation and Pat will not make life difficult for him. Daniel cannot make a promise like that. Daniel knows that Pat is hiding something. Pat gives him another warning.

After the break we see Pat watching Daniel and his new squeeze leave the flat and wander down the Street.

The birthday meal for Shona is progressing in the Bistro with some banter. They have another present for Shona they are going to the "dark spot" in the Peak District. It is a real thing http://gostargazing.co.uk/events/locations/surprise-view-peak-district/) - and Max is hugely excited! Although Gail admits it is not her cup of tea! David gets some drinks from the bar and Dane takes the opportunity to ask if he knows him - perhaps via Kylie, all of which disconcerts David. Shona worries and pretending she has forgotten her phone goes into the lobby and using her shoe sets off the fire alarm to create a disturbance.

Ty returns home - Fiz and the girls are in the yard. In a wonderful piece of "non-acting" "Hope" puts her finger to her lips in a sign to "Ruby" not to talk because they are now filming. Sweet! Fiz has to admit that Hope is still on the crowdfunding page. It is now £500; Ty is not happy but Fiz wants it left a little longer, just to see if the business can get going. Ty unhappily agrees.

Daniel and Cindy are having another mug in the cafe. She offers to take over the story but he refuses and he is not handing his knowledge to the police either. Pat is not scaring Daniel off. She suggests meeting up later as she runs her shoe up his leg (do people actually do that other than in tv programmes?). She is sure it will be as enjoyable as their last meeting. Daniel makes an excuse about not being in the right head space at the moment. They both agree they do not want a relationship. Daniel admits there was someone else. Cindy tells him he is good at his job and other things. Her phone goes and she has to leave "Ross Watson" is on the phone. Outside she tells Ross that she is still stuck in the office and he is not to wait up and we see her re-instate rings on her ring finger; I rather think Ross must be her husband. Pat clumsily knocks her over and takes the opportunity to steal her mobile phone. Pat apologises and helps pick up her bag.

Sadly for Craig Roy tells him that Bethany, Harry and Sarah have gone to Milan with Gary.

Grapes, Colin and Todd enter Rita's room in that order. Todd can see that Rita is not up to legal matters but Colin insists. With Rita almost awake they explain why they are there and then Todd decides to leave the contract on the side and Rita can read it when she is ready and he ushers Colin out the room. Perhaps Todd is not all bad?

Outside the Bistro Shona offers Dane £1k and she adds he can have it tomorrow. He threatens her family is she does not do it. Continuity as to why they were there and why he had walked there made no sense. David comes out and Shona gets him back inside for some pudding.

Well we know that Andy likes zombies and it looks like has is about to become one. Pat finds all of the tablets and it is clear that Andy has failed to kill himself. Pat tells Andy things have changed as there are people asking questions. Andy pleads not to be a killed. Pat says that Andy's swap plan is on - he has someone in mind who has annoyed him to replace Andy.

Roll credits.

Not much resolved in this episode - it very much felt that all sorts of stories were being setup for next week.

Do middle aged women really behave like Cindy? Or is it those old Barlow genes at work? Of course once Daniel goes missing will anyone want to look for him?

Dane Hibbs is hanging around like a nasty smell. I cannot see Shona's plan working.

Someone shoot Colin before he ever appears on our screens again please.

And will Daniel's next expose being the Hope appeal page and if not why not?

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very concerned about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Monday 9 October

Part 1 and 2 Written by Debbie Oates Directed By Tim Dowd

David and Shona are planning an late night out to the Peak District with the kids to go star gazing but Dane is insisting that Shona pay him the money he wants. She gets the cash from Adam and David walks in, having followed her. She admits the cash is for Clayton's father. David goes with her to meet Dane, but they've left the cash with Adam. They tell Dane he's not getting the extortion money and warn him to stay away. He makes threats to tell David's kids that Shona's son killed Kylie, and he winds David up so much that David launches himself at the man who's twice his size with a threat. No coward, is our David.

Shona wavers about giving Dane the money but David is adamant. Then she utters the Phrase of Doom "I'm sure Dane won't bother us again" It'll take him about 5 minutes to start bothering them again now she's said that. Sure enough, Dane's lurking around the corner of the Kabin while David and Shona start to load up that new car David's bought. The kids are in the car and belted up along with the dog. David gets in the car but Shona can't find the blankets Gail left out. David gets out of the car and Dane scoots across and gets in with the kids and locks David out.

The kids are scared. Dane starts talking to the kids and tells them that Shona's son killed their mummy. With that, he gets out and runs away, damage done. Later, Max is discovered missing. Shona is the one that finds Max, he's hiding in the empty factory which now seems to have a roof since there's no sunlight streaming through. Shona talks to Max through the storeroom door about how her son did a terrible thing but she's trying to help make things better for him and Lily. David arrives and it seems like Shona realizes this might be the end. It takes him awhile to get through to Max, too.

Max finally comes out of the storeroom for a hug. David tries to explain, agreeing it's a bit weird that Shona's in their lives given the circumstances. He explains how you can love lots of people and you don't love any of them less in order to love a new one. It kind of makes sense to the lad. Max worries that he might meet or see Clayton some day. David assures him that will never happen.

Back home, Shona and Gail wait for David who's put the kids in bed. Gail goes up to watch a DVD with Max. David does take some of the blame, for having a go at Dane earlier. He wants her to tell Max that she's disowned Clayton. She tells him that they agreed no lies and she can't agree to cut off her son but will keep him away from David's family. She tells him the rest of the money is being kept for Clayton. She hates what he did but he's her son. It seems like they are going to have to call it a day. It was never going to work. She's probably right.

Fiz is upset about Beth using Hope's story for the crowdfunding, feeling like it's tempting fate. Roy thinks that the ends justify the means but is surprised at her superstitions. Fiz mentions how most of the factory staff are struggling. Billy overhears as Roy donates to the fund. Turns out Todd told Billy his suspicions about Adam's involvement and Billy thinks Adam should give a hefty donation to make up for it. Billy comes to the law office and takes note of the envelope of cash on the desk. Adam ignores Billy's hints about the crowdfund scheme and leaves and what does honest Billy do? Grab the envelope of cash!

He then divides it up and puts it through the letterboxes of the former factory staff, watching to see nobody catches him. Adam tells Todd over the phone that the envelope is gone, he thought Shona must have taken it. Adam comes to the conclusion that Billy must have taken the money. Todd can't believe it. Adam demands he get that money back because if their reputation suffers, the police will be involved. In the pub later, as Todd joins him, Billy hears Fiz and Sean talk about the anonymous donations, 100 pounds each. Todd tells Billy who the money really belonged to.

Billy tells Shona what he's done and why and promises to get the money back to her. She decides to leave it be where the cash was doing good, since the alternative recipient, Dane, would only have wasted it.

Ken's birthday is today. He doesn't want a fuss, just a quiet night in with friends, Brian and Cathy included, with Roy and maybe Audrey. Amy and Asha comes barreling down the stairs, knocking Brian's coffee all over him. Later, Brian is heard moaning that Roy's attempt at fixing the shower has not had good results. Brian decides to ask Ken if he can shower there. (ugh)

Ken has made Asha and Amy hand write an apology to Brian and they're highly resentful of the punishment which includes no screen time before bed. Roy brings a cake from the cafe and we see a sad looking concoction that's supposed to be a cake, with aqua blue icing and it's barely able to stay on the plate, it's so saggy. Simon apparently baked it for his granddad. Roy likens it as an homage to Deirdre's pottery which is a lovely little throwback and which makes Ken smile much more indulgently at the confection than previously. The girls overhear that Brian will be coming to Number 1 to take a shower and they glance at each other with evil little smiles. Uh oh.

The dinner party is enjoying the vegetarian meal. Eccles is making a nuisance of himself under foot under the table. There's a reason for that. Brian appears to have a beefy scent to him and they realize that Amy had a shower after Ken but before Brian and knew Brian was expected. Little minx! Amy shows up later when Ken has served the cakes and is called back with the evidence of a stock cube retrieved from the shower head. She's got to write another apology and make it better than the last one, which Brian gave a C grade.

Andy confirms from Phelan that he's going to let him go and replace him with someone else, Andy being the new prison "guard". Phelan hasn't decided yet who it's going to be. Phelan comes to the Bistro and overhears Daniel asking for Friday off this week. When Michelle goes to sort out something, he grabs the rota and changes the X by Daniel's row for the Friday to a check mark.

Eileen joins Phelan, armed with holiday brochures. He has a few digs at Daniel for his investigations into Phelan's deals. Looks like Phelan has spent his meal with Eileen keeping an eye on Daniel as he works, not afraid to catch his eye if need be.

Rana finds Imogen and Kate in the Bistro being friendly. Rana is decidedly *not* friendly, blanking them to speak to Zeedan, and he gets the sharp end of her tongue as well. Back in the medical centre, she's surprised to hear that Sean has a son (Dylan will be 10 soon!). She tells him she already had to stop Yasmeen nagging them about grandchildren though Sean could see Yasmeen's point of view. Rana looks thoughtful.

We later find out that Imogen doesn't like camping or traveling, which is disconcerting to Kate. Kate, in turn, is not really comfortable that Imogen wants her to meet the parents. Kate later admits to Zeedan that it feels too soon for that sort of thing. I don't know where Kate disappeared to all of a sudden but Rana comes marching in and drags Zee into the kitchen and tells him she wants them to have a baby.

Zeedan is shocked at Rana's demand. She is definitely on edge. She doesn't get an immediate yes from him so she storms back out again, confusing the heck out of him. Kate soothes Zeedan's fears. They chat about babies and relationships but it's clear Kate has gone off Imogen. The shine is off the apple, as they say. She likes the first part of "getting to know you" but is not so keen on the actual ongoing relationship, it seems. But Imogen was on the other side of the door to the kitchen and it all comes out. Kate suggests a slow down, Imogen realizes she means a full stop and storms out, hurt.

Rana finds Imogen on the bench. Imogen accuses Rana of fancying Kate and being jealous and walks off down the road. Sean returns Rana's phone and sees that there's something bothering Rana who seems to be a bit stunned at Imogen's accusation. Sean takes his break and sits with Rana, telling her Zeedan was probably just taken by surprise. Rana returns to the Bistro where Kate tells her she and Imogen are finished. Zeedan tells Rana he agrees to have a baby. As it's his break, she pulls him out (back home, presumably, to start straight away. Since she's on birth control pills, that might be a bit tricky) with a glance at Kate over her shoulder.

Wednesday 11 October

Todd meets Rana in the Street and asks if she's ok after the barney with Imogen. She looks somewhat flustered, and then states that Kate is better off without her. Todd watches her walk on with a questioning look on his face.

Nicola is walking along, talking on the phone, promising to go and see someone soon, there's a lot to catch up on.

Outside the builder's yard, Pat is loading his van with, among other things, a length of rope, when Daniel comes out of the cafe and bids him good morning. Nicola approaches Pat then, and he slams the doors of the van in a hurry. She asks if he's got time for a brew, but he says he has to be somewhere. As she's on a day off he asks if she'll take in a delivery of timber for him later.

In the cafe, Beth is talking to Rosie about the money that came through her door. Rather than pay bills with it, she's planning on buying a mini trampette.

In Yasmeen's house, she and Zeedan are talking about Kate's split with Imogen. Rana comes in with milk and Yasmeen rushes over to hug her, all delighted, because Zee has told her they're planning a family. They ask her not to be quite so enthusiastic and she promises to try, but is still full of it. Rana doesn't look quite so happy.

Over at the Platt's, Gail reckons it's probably for the best that Shona has dumped David. "That's what I love about you, Gail, your sunny, optimistic disposition," says David, adding that he just wants to take the kids out and give them a good time and try and undo some of the damage Shona's family did to his.

Nicola has called on Eileen. While they're chatting, Shona comes downstairs sobbing, saying she's messed everything up.

Rana goes into the bistro where Zeedan suggests it's time she and Kate made up. Kate mutters that she doesn't think Rana would be comfortable with that. Rana tells her that it was Imogen she didn't like, not the fact that Kate is gay. Zeedan murmurs that his wife is not a homophobe. Rana snaps at him not to call her his wife – it's patronising, and Zeedan looks a bit puzzled for a moment. Then the two girls hug and make up.

Amy, Summer and Asha are walking down the Street talking about Brian smelling beefy after their oxo in the shower prank. Asha asks Amy if she's decided what her dare is yet. Amy looks over at Roy's car, parked outside the cafe, and says she has.

Aidan is in the pub, looking morose. Toyah asks if there's any news on the burglary, but he reckons the police aren't interested in a load of old sewing machines. Johnny remarks that as it's cost so many people their jobs, they might be.

Todd is sitting with Rosie and Sophie, and sees Rana come in. As the girls talk about going shopping, he suggests that they include Rana, she's been a bit down recently. Rosie immediately takes the idea on board and goes over to chat to her, eventually inviting her back to the table. Then they tell her they're going to town and ask her to go with them, and she agrees.

Pat goes to see Andy, who asks him if he really meant it – has he found someone to take his place? And how long does he have to wait? Pat tells him he'll be there soon enough. "He? So it's a man?" asks Andy. Pat tells him of course it's a man, does he think he would do this to a woman? "What kind of monster do you think I am?"

The girls have been round the shops and now find themselves in a bar. While Rosie goes to the toilet Sophie asks Rana to tell her the real reason Imogen and Kate split up. Rana tells her it had been on the cards for a while, it was no surprise when Kate dumped her. Sophie remarks that they should have invited Kate out with them, after all, they're all single girls now. "Apart from you...." she laughs. Rana looks uncomfortable.

Yasmeen is in the cafe, clucking on to Roy about Rana and Zeedan's baby (which has yet to be conceived, let alone born!) and how they'll be a real family at last. Shona is working there and looks upset. Brian comes in and asks Roy if he can borrow Woody (Roy's car) later, he wants to take Cathy to see Phoney M, a Boney M tribute band.

Gail comes in to see Shona, and tells her she thinks it was brave of her to finish with David, to put the kids' feelings before her own. She says knows David thinks the world of her, and Shona says she likes David a lot too. Gail says that David is her son, she wants the best for him, Clayton is hers and, no matter what he's done, she wants him safe, that's never going to change.

Amy, Asha and Summer are hanging around outside the kebab shop. Cathy sees them and gives them a pack of chips to share, thinking that they're there because they can't afford any. Brian comes in, and Cathy tells him to make sure he dresses up for tonight.

The girls have gone round the corner and the real reason for them hanging around starts to become apparent. Amy hands Asha a bottle of blue water colour paint and asks if she's ready. Summer is worried and says it could be dangerous. They tells her if she doesn't want to be in their crew she might as well go, so she walks off.

Johnny and Aidan are walking up the Street and see Alya and Beth unloading a sewing machine on a workbench from a van. They hurry over, demanding to know where they got it from. Alya tells them she bought it, and it was dead cheap. Aidan tells them it's one of their old machines, and points out a place where Beth had carved her and Kirk's initials on it. Johnny tells Alya they need to know where she got it from.

Back in the bar, the girls are downing shots and talking about past experiences. Rana tells Rosie she really admires her, she's fearless, she doesn't care what anyone thinks. Then Rosie and Sophie go off to the ladies and, left on her own, Rana looks down at her phone where she has opened up Kate's contact details.

Daniel comes up the stairs into the office at the builder's yard. There's no one about, so he picks up a folder from the desk and starts looking through it. Nicola comes up behind him, demanding to know what he's doing. He jumps and tells her he's just looking for Pat. She tells him he won't find him those papers.

Over at David's house, Max wants to know why Shona isn't coming round for tea. David tells her that after everything that happened yesterday, she feels bad. Max says it wasn't her fault, and she was very sorry about it all. David starts to say it's complicated adult stuff but Max persists with saying it wasn't Shona's fault what Clayton did, and anyway, he's locked away. He tells David that he and Lily really like her, so they reckon David should keep on seeing her. She's nice, and he laughs more when he's with her. Then he reminds David that Kylie always said that life was too short.

Nicola is still questioning Daniel when Pat comes back. He tries to send her home but she says she needs to talk to him, so Daniel makes a quick exit. When he's gone, Pat turns to Nicola, sensing that something is wrong, and asks what's the matter. She tells him she's pregnant!

Cathy and Brian come out of the cafe to get in Woody and set off for the gig. Cathy is dressed in 70s disco gear, silver trousers, boots and hat, with a purple shirt and round, rosy glasses. Brian is dressed to the nines in a dinner suit and bow tie, which wasn't quite what Cathy meant when she told him to dress up. Cathy gets in the driving seat and they set off down the road, much to the horror of Amy and Asha, on the pavement, who thought Roy would be the next one to drive Woody. "Let's hope they don't use the windscreen wipers," says Asha.

As they progress down the Street, Brian remarks to Cathy that the windscreen is filthy. She switches on the wipers and blue paint squirts all over the windscreen, obscuring their view, just as David the little dog runs into the road. Cathy manages to screech to a halt, and David rushes over to pick up the dog. A very shocked Brian and Cathy get out of the car and Cathy notices the girls over on the other side of the road. She realises immediately what they've done and points an angry finger at them.

Rana arrives at the flat to see Kate, who realises that she's been drinking. Rana suddenly lurches forward and kisses a very shocked Kate on the lips!

Kate bustles Rana out of the flat before Alya comes into the room, saying she'll meet her in the Rovers afterwards.

Amy and Asha admit that Roy was their intended victim. Steve, Tracy and Dev are summoned. Amy is grounded. The parents each blame the other's child and bicker. Tracy throws them all out of No.1.

David goes to chat to Shona in the cafe. Shona tells David she can't just abandon her son. He laughs when she is cheeky towards Tracy and tells her how neither he nor Max blame her for Clayton's actions.

Eileen is told the news about the pregnancy. Although initially pleased to be a grandad, Phelan is staggered to be informed that Gary is the father. Eileen asks Phelan to leave her and a torn Nicola alone while they discuss what she's going to do. Eileen tells a questioning Nicola how pleased she is that she had Jason and Todd, composing the girl.

Johnny and Aidan burst into Barlow-Grimshaw and tell Adam they've got proof that he was behind the theft. The supposed proof is a business card of Adam's that was found in the premises selling the sewing machines. He dismisses it and threatens a charge of slander. The Connors promise to get more evidence.

A confused Rana confesses to Kate that she's harboured feelings for her for some time. Zeedan and the others are oblivious to the undercurrents when they join the two women. Aidan tells Alya and Kate that the police will ensure Adam gets his comeuppance but, making a pointed reference to an uncomfortable Rana, Kate tells him he's the one at fault for his affair and she can't stand cheats.

A mortified Amy and Asha are forced to put on a private Boney M. show for Cathy and Brian.

Toyah forces Liz to promote some foul-tasting wasabi nuts she's bought in.

Rana tells an enquiring Todd in no uncertain terms that she is not questioning her sexuality.

Summer tells the girls she wants to join in their pranking from now onwards.

Phelan promises Nicola his full support and tells Eileen he's never been so happy.

David and Max look up at the stars from the back garden. They're both delighted when Shona turns up with Roy's telescope.

Zeedan suggests to a guilty Rana that they get married legally.

Friday 13 October

Written by John Kerr and directed by Durno Johnston

Nicola calls round to see Pat and Eileen. She's suffering from morning sickness and feeling nostalgic. Her parents may no longer be around but Pat reminds her he's her dad and he'll always be around, whatever she decides to do.

Round at Billy and Todd's there's tension in the air. Todd tells Summer it's nothing to worry about, he and Billy have had a minor row to do with work. He's bent the rules a bit, he says, but that's OK, as long as you don't get caught.

Alya's concerned about Kate. She seems on edge about something and she reacts strangely when Alya mentions that Rana and Zee are going to get married officially.

In the Bistro Daniel is telling his editor he's going round to the nursing home this afternoon so that he can be there when Vinny calls his mother to wish her happy birthday. She reminds him he'll need to make sure he gets Vinny's testimony for when his story breaks. While they're having this conversation, Pat comes in with a quote for Michelle.

Pat smiles to himself when Daniel discovers Michelle thinks he's about to start a shift (quick reminder: Pat sneakily changed the rota in a previous episode). Daniel's confused. He knows he's not meant to be working today. He pleads with Michelle - he has something really important to do. Luckily Michelle agrees to let him go if he can find cover but Pat doesn't overhear this bit.

Nicola has gone visiting. She arrives at a house and is greeted by an older woman who is delighted to see her and invites her in.

At Weatherfield High, Amy, Aadi and Asha have persuaded Summer to do a dare as an initiation into their gang. It involves a can of shaving foam and a teacher's car. Unfortunately for Summer, just as she completes her artwork, the teacher appears.

Nicola is having a cup of tea with the woman who turns out to be on old family friend called Lydia. They talk about the pregnancy then Nicola tells her she's discovered her mum had an affair and she's met her biological father. Lydia is surprised but when Nicola shows her a photo of Pat she appears really shocked. Nicola is concerned by her reaction.

Back on the street, Liz is working behind the bar in the Rovers. She tells Audrey and Yasmeen that, now Toyah has wound her neck in, she's rather enjoying being back there but without the stress of running the business.

Adam and Todd are in the office. Adam is just telling Todd that his contact has successfully off-loaded all the dodgy factory equipment when Billy turns up. He tells Todd they have to go to the school because Summer's in trouble. Alya finds Zee in the Bistro. She's still worried about Rana but he's busy with other things and doesn't know what all the fuss about. Kate listens on with a look of panic on her face.

Pat isn't happy to discover his plan to thwart Daniel has failed. He watches him get into a taxi and ask for the nursing home. But before Pat can follow him, Nicola comes along, wanting to talk to him urgently. Pat tries to leave but then Nicola mentions Lydia's name. He makes out he doesn't know who she is but Nicola is insistent that Lydia knows Pat.

Pat has taken Nicola into the house. He sticks to his story that he doesn't remember meeting Lydia but clearly he's hiding something. He tells Nicola he really has to go.

Billy, Todd and Summer are in the teacher's office where we discover Summer drew a certain part of the male anatomy in shaving foam. Billy is very apologetic and insists Summer is sorry for what she did. He is not best pleased when it's revealed that Todd told Summer it's OK to bend the rules as long as you don't get caught.

At the nursing home Daniel is sitting with Flora, waiting for her son to call. She insists he never forgets her birthday but it looks as though he might have done on this occasion.

Rana arrives home and has a chat with Yasmeen who thinks Rana is just a bit overwhelmed with everything going on in her life at the moment. She advises her the most important thing in a relationship is to talk and be honest with each other. They're interrupted by Kate who's popped round for a quick word. Yasmeen leaves them to it. Kate tells Rana she needs to know what's going on.

Back at the nursing home, Daniel does his best to stay awake as Flora drones on. He's rescued by a knock at the door. It's a nurse who takes him outside for a quick word. She tells him that Flora gets confused. It was her birthday two weeks ago, she says, and as far as she knows her son hasn't called once since she's been there.

Eileen arrives in the Rovers. She's had a hard morning and fancies going into town for a drink with Audrey and Liz. But Liz realises life's not quite as good as she thought when Toyah tells her she can't have the afternoon off. Not only that, she wants Liz to deal with a blocked toilet in the ladies'.

Todd and Billy arrive back on the street with Summer to see Adam getting into a police car. The police are pleased to see Todd as it will save them coming back, they say. Billy and Summer watch as Todd is arrested on suspicion of burglary.

At the nursing home, Flora's laptop is open and we see the words "Harvey Calling" flash up on the screen. Vinny's face appears and he wishes his mother a happy birthday. Flora tells him there's someone with her who wants to say hello. "Surprise!" calls a voice as Pat comes into view alongside Flora.

Karen

Hello again.

This is episode 9274. The writer for this episode was John Kerr and the director was Durno Johnston. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Well it might not be Flora's birthday and Harvey (Vince is the name we knew him by of course) might never have called - as Pat no doubt told the nurse to tell Daniel - but there is Harvey on the screen and very surprised to see Pat looming over his poor dear mother. Pat implies that some care homes are not good at looking after residents. Flora and Pat would both like Harvey to return to Weatherfield. Harvey sends Flora to get a member of staff so he can talk to Pat. Pat reminds Harvey he skipped with the money. He has had to lie and cheat to keep from being banged up. Now Pat knows how far he is prepared to go to get what he wants. And he wants to meet Harvey face to face. Pat gives Harvey a week to get back to Weatherfield or both Harvey and his mum will find out what Pat is capable of doing.

Kate (in Yasmeen's house) admits to Rana that she may have been a bit harsh yesterday. Kate says she does care about Rana and Zeedan. Rana says she and Zeedan are in love and going to have a family - but Rana has a problem in that she cannot stop thinking about Kate! Rana realised it when she saw Kate and Imogen kissing. Rana says it took her a while to realise that she hated because she wanted to be kissing Kate, she realised she was jealous of Imogen. Kate is lost for words. She can see Rana is confused about her feelings - but Kate always knew she was gay. Rana denies she is gay. She also denies being bisexual, she says she is straight and loves Zeedan! Rana admits she is unhappy - but because she is confused, she knows she is not gay or bisexual and she does not feel like this about other women. Just Kate and she knows that it cannot happen with Kate - who decides she must leave.

Billy reassures Summer that Todd will be fine. Summer is not convinced, she knew the family would not last. Summer tells Billy to leave her alone.

Todd is being questioned by the police and attempting to answer their questions. The only evidence they seem to have is the business card which was on the premises where Alya bought the sewing machine. Todd explains he did a card drop off - shops, offices, factories, churches. Proves nothing. And he cannot see why his fingerprints would be on the stolen machine. Todd then explains that he tends not to get his hands on women's knickers.

Liz is still clearing the ladies' toilet. Mary is excitedly awaiting her son and family and they are staying at Norris' for a month! How will they fit Jude, Angie and George in a house with Norris, Mary and Sean? Correction Mary is moving back to Dev's for a while. Liz emerges - it was a BIG problem! Liz wants her break - but Toyah wants one of the pumps looking at! Liz insists on her break first!

Flora returns - Pat tells her the call has ended as Harvey had to go. Pat leaves but not before thanking the carer for getting rid of the reporter sniffing around and upsetting Flora. The carer is called Jane and thinks Pat is Flora's nephew and is called Alan.

The police release Todd and Adam - the latter said no comment and the former recounts the story he told the police. Now they need a drink.

In the Bistro Daniel is explaining is failure to Cindy who thinks he is very attractive when he is angry. A man pushes a wheelchair into the Bistro and wanders over to them. Cindy asks Ross (her husband remember?) what he is doing there? He asks if he is interrupting anything? Ross says he has been told exactly what is going. Ross introduces himself to Daniel. Ross grabs Daniel and lifts him out of his seat and tells Daniel to stay away from his wife or he will break every bone in Daniel's scrawny body! Kate and Zeedan get Ross to leave. Cindy goes with him. As Daniel goes to leave the Bistro Pat stops him and says "Dear oh dear, looks like someone has been a naughty boy". Daniel guesses that Pat told Ross. Pat feigns shock. Pat tells Daniel that he got off lightly this time - but whilst he might be relieved he should continue to be scared.

After the break Jude and family arrive. Angie is worried about it being cramped but Norris is a convivial host according to Mary. They go to settle in.

Pat tries to cheer up Andy by offering a bed turn down service. He tells Andy that he has the replacement sorted out and he will be here very soon! Pat tells Andy he is working on plans to get a victim in the cellar. They share cans and a toast.

Rana comes into the Bistro to see Kate but the latter warns her it is not ideal and Zeedan has returned - the van broke down and he needs to get the food back into the freezer so Rana helps him. Rana refuses to stop chasing Kate until she knows if Kate feels the same about her as she feels about Kate. Kate replies that nothing is going to happen between the two of them and Rana is to stay away from Kate.

Adam is relieved as he and Todd have a drink in the Rovers. Adam reckons they are home free - the Connors can do no more. Todd needs the job and has Summer to think about - so no more daft stunts. Adam agrees that they will be strictly legitimate. Eileen and Audrey leave the Rovers, Liz has to look at the pump. A tall gentleman comes in - Tom is from the brewery and Liz introduces him to Toyah. He tests the pint and tells Toyah that it is far from acceptable. Tom hands over his card - Thomas Ridley (of Newton and "Ridley" fame). He is not happy, he may have to stop supplying the pub - it is not just a beer - it is a family legacy. He says he will be in touch to let them know his decision.

Norris takes a wash bag to Mary which she left behind. She is not happy. Mary says she is happy but she is not sure Angie is at all happy. Norris puts it down to jet lag. (Unlikely as South Africa is actually on more or less the same time zone as Weatherfield). Norris says she will settle in within a few days and not overdoing the excitement may help. Mary seems unsure.

Todd does not get a warm welcome from Billy who knows Todd was released hours ago. Todd admits to going for a drink. Billy tears a strip off Todd for not letting them know he was OK - and Summer has been worried sick. Billy says Todd cannot see Summer until tomorrow as he does not want her further upset. Billy tells Todd he is not exactly the right role model for Summer at the moment. They argue. Todd says he is going to Eileen's because he does not want Summer to be aware they are at each other's throats.

Pat is in the dark at his yard - cleaning a gun. It all seems good and he is preparing his plan for Harvey/Vince.

Roll credits.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Monday 16 October

Part 1 and 2 written by Julie Jones directed by Matt Hilton

Todd and Billy are giving each other the silent treatment in the wake of Todd's arrest and his remarks that caused Summer to believe she could break the rules if she wants to, which is a bit ironic given Billy's recent theft of Shona's money. Todd stayed over at Eileen's. Poor Summer's not having a good day. It's her father's birthday and that's always tough. Todd and Billy are fighting and she's worried about that, too. At the bus stop, Amy, in true Tracy style, tells her she's lucky her father's dead because she can then get away with whatever she wants. I don't think she sees it that way. At least Simon knows what she's going through. She sees Todd later and is inconsolable with the fear that they're splitting up. Todd promises they'll both be there for her no matter what but it's not what she wants or needs to hear.

Simon shows off a joint he found at school and he dares Summer to smoke it. She throws it away but when they all head back to the bus stop, she retrieves it. Summer sits in the ginnel tearfully looking at photos of her dad, poor little lost thing. She pulls out the joint and box of matches it was in, lights up and in a clever camera shot, moves the match towards the joint but we don't actually see her light up because that would be too much for before the watershed. Apparently this new drug is called spice which she smokes later in the ginnel and subsequently passes out.

Amy and Simon find Summer and freak out when they find the end of the joint. Amy runs for help and finds Peter and Simon calls for an ambulance. Todd is chatting to Eileen in the cab office as we hear the ambulance arrive. Peter calls Todd and he rushes out. Billy leaves Chesney to the EMT and Sinead just as the next ambulance rolls up for Summer and he goes running when he sees Todd carry her out of the ginnel. Simon hands over the end of the joint that they "found" with her, not telling anyone they knew where she'd got it.

It's down to Toyah and Peter to wheedle it out of Simon thought Summer had thrown it away. He's very sorry, he didn't expect it would harm Summer like that. The doctor in the hospital tells Billy and Todd that the drug appears to be something called Spice and asks if Summer had been upset about anything recently since they were adamant that she's a good kid. Summer's not conscious and there's no further news at the moment. While waiting, Billy and Todd make up but are frantic with worry because they don't know what the damage might be until she wakes up.

Billy comes home to get some things for Summer and Peter goes to talk to him about the situation. He tells Billy rather than making Simon do it himself and even brushes it off as "just kids being kids". Peter then insinuates that Billy's making a bigger deal of it because of his brother being an addict and then, even worse, blames Billy and Todd for Summer's being so upset she decided to take the drug. He pushed Billy's guilt button well and truly. He gets a smack in the face for it. Several, in fact. It was kind of scary watching Billy lose control like that. I tell you, first robbery, now assault. Billy's going to hell in a handbasket.

In the end, it's all ok. Summer is going to be fine with no lasting effects. She says she only did it because she wanted them back together and Todd does scold her but not really angrily. Billy lies to Todd about how he hurt his hand. Slippery slope, that.

Sinead is making the rounds looking for jobs. Freshco's is hiring, or at least, she had an interview there. She also asked Tracy for a job, trying to impress her about the history of flowers, but gets a mouthful for her efforts there. She should have expected that! Daniel happens by, tosses off an insult at Tracy's expense. Sinead drags Daniel off to the Bistro for a fancy coffee as an apology for thinking he'd hurt Chesney while poor old Chesney has to work because he's the only one in Number 5 with a job at the moment even if he's still not feeling himself. Sinead chats to Daniel about job hunting and he tries to prod her to be more ambitious than working in a shop or the pub. He tells her he nearly had a good story but it fell apart just like everything else in his life that he loses. But later, Chesney collapses at work and luckily Billy is there.

Sinead and Daniel are enjoying each other's company as friends. They've started on the wine and are getting a bit tipsy but Sinead avoids all talk of feelings though she does admit she thinks about what might have been between them. But she gets a call about Chesney's collapse and goes running, realizing where her priorities really lie. She's gone before Daniel comes back from the kitchen with cake for them. Oh crap, lost another one. He leans on Kate who tells him about a mutual fancy with a friend who's attached. They commiserate.

Cathy keeps Sinead company in Chesney's room. Turns out a fragment of glass got missed and he's had an infection. Cathy tells Sinead how much pressure Chesney was feeling financially and didn't want to let everyone down. That's only adding to her guilt. Cathy sends her back to get some things for him while she sits with him. Sinead asks Kate to tell Daniel to keep away from her altogether. She's made her decision.

The unsuccessful brewery visit from the other day has Toyah worried. Sure, there are other breweries but the Rovers has always served Newton and Ridley and it's a firm favourite with the punters. What if the brewery does pull out? Turns out, according to Liz, Tom Ridley likes the ladies. Liz is convinced to turn on the charm, schmooze Ridley, which she agrees to if she isn't assigned all the dirty jobs anymore. Deal.

But it all seems to be a set up apparently. Turns out the pint was just fine after all and Tom is gay and impervious to Liz's cleavage. Sounds like whatever plan Liz concocted had the desired effect, putting her on the road to returning her to Queen of the Rovers status. In other news, Peter and Toyah's surrogate is pregnant! We've not seen Toyah smile this much since she's been back on screen!

Jude and Angie are in Weatherfield to look for a house during the month that they're visiting and Angie has to start putting out feelers for a job. Add to the situation that Mary, a new mother and grandmother, is in their face and can't contain her joy and enthusiasm. Angie's finding it a bit claustrophobic I think.

Jude talks to Mary about Angie. Later Norris cautions Mary for being over zealous, sometimes making her unstoppable. She feels like she needs to seize every moment she can have with them. Angie wants Jude to ask Mary to back off but he thinks Angie needs to get to know her a bit better.

Nicola has decided to keep the baby and Phelan is really pleased. She's not going to tell Gary. We find out that Phelan will expect Andy to live in the unfinished house which he will sign over to him while he's looking after the new hostage, Vinny/Harvey. He has to promise never to come to Weatherfield so the house must be in an outlying community. Andy agrees. Back at the yard, Phelan sends Seb over to the cafe and has another look at the gun that he had stored in the safe. He jumps when Seb comes back in looking for money. Did he see the gun?

Maybe not but Seb wants a key to the safe just in case. But maybe, he thinks he saw something but Phelan puts him off, firmly.

Wednesday 18 October

A rather bruised and battered Peter is sweeping up outside the pub. Toyah comes out and says they've made the right decision not to go to the police, Billy must've been out of his mind with worry. Todd walks by on the other side of the road, and stares at Peter's bruised face.

Sally's sister is in the cafe. From a conversation with Tim, it becomes apparent that she doesn't want to be Kirk's campaign manager any more, but doesn't know how to tell him. Kirk comes and sits down with her, and she tries asking him if he might be better with someone else behind him, someone who thinks outside the box, but he doesn't. He's sure he'll win, with her behind him. 'The dream team!" Gina then goes over to the counter to pay for the coffee, but finds she doesn't have the cash. Sally comes in behind her and pays for her.

Sinead is in the cafe too, and picks up a message from Daniel on her mobile phone. He says he doesn't know why she ran off like she did, and if he'd upset her then he's sorry. He begs her to ring or text him, he just wants to be friends.

Just as Todd arrives at the hospital he gets a call from Summer's social worker, it seems the school has informed them of what happened. The social worker wants to come round and see them. Todd then asks Billy about his injured hand, did he hurt it on Peter Barlow's eye socket? A contrite Billy tells him that it was Simon who gave Summer the spice and Billy didn't like his attitude. He asks Todd if he thinks Peter will go to the police. Todd doesn't know, but advises him to go and find out.

Tim and Sally tell Anna she should stop helping Seb's family and let Social Services get involved. Anna doesn't want to break up the family, she thinks Seb's mum is doing her best.

Billy goes to see Peter who is in the back room of the pub. He apologises, and admits that he lost it, but says that if Social Services get involved they could lose Summer. Peter thinks she has been through enough, but tells him to leave Simon alone. He's a good kid who made a mistake. Then he tells Billy that if he ever pulls a stunt like that again he'll beat the living daylights out of him. They end up shaking hands, and Peter shows him out. However, then they've left the room, Simon appears from the kitchen, it seems he's heard everything.

Fiz, Tyrone and Sinead are outside their house when a distressed Izzy comes along, she's had a phone call from her dad – Katy is dead, killed in a car accident. Joseph wasn't in the car, and her mum is looking after him.

Jude and his wife are in the pub, looking at property online. They see something that looks nice and decide they'll view it together later. "Just the 3 of us," says Jude. Angie knows he's referring to Mary coming along, and she's not too pleased. Jude tells her that she's just excited. Just then Mary and Dev come in, and sit down with them. Toyah comes over and mentions it's her afternoon off and she's planning on going to town. Mary suggests that Angie goes with her, although Angie looks somewhat underwhelmed, and Toyah is obviously taken aback too, but recovers quickly and says she's welcome. Angie looks imploringly at Jude, who tells his mother that they were planning to go and look at houses. Mary brushes all that aside, so in the end Angie tells Toyah it looks like she's saddled with her.

Summer is now back at home, and is on the sofa. Billy and Todd are fretting about the forthcoming visit from the social worker when the doorbell buzzes. It's Aadi, Asha and Simon, who've brought Summer a tin of chocolates. As Aadi and Asha chat to Summer, Simon stands a little to one side and then remarks that he doesn't know what all the fuss is about, she looks fine. Asha tells him she could have died, but Simon doesn't look convinced.

Fiz, Tyrone and Sinead have gone to see Chesney, and they break the bad news about Katy. When he realises she's dead, he leaps out of his hospital bed, pulling the tubes off himself, saying he has to go and look after Joseph, and despite a doctor's protests, he rushes out of the hospital.

In the cafe, Anna puts a meal in front of Seb, and tells him he should be earning more than the pittance that Phelan pays, and he should ask for a pay rise. Eventually Seb agrees.

Chesney and Sinead have gone to Dev to ask for a loan of 500 pounds so that Chesney can go out to bring his son home. Dev lends it gladly, and Chesney rushes off to sort a lift out. Sinead stays in the shop picking up some snacks for Chesney's journey, when Daniel comes in behind her and hears a snippet of her conversation with Dev. He asks if something's happened, but she just turns and rushes out. Dev explains to him that Chesney's ex has just been killed.

Kirk is in the pub playing darts, when Tim asks if he can play too. Kirk however, declines, and Tim then mutters that he should have been Buzzer the Bee.

Toyah and Angie have returned from the pub, Angie says it was good to get out of Weatherfield. They chat and Angie mentions how Mary seems to want to take over and she feels she barely gets a look in with George or Jude and she thinks Mary would prefer it if she had them both to herself.

Gina and Sally are in the pub, and Gina confesses to Sally that she doesn't want to be Kirk's campaign manager any more. She thinks Beth would make a better mayor than he would. "And that's saying something," she says. She thinks Sally would be much better, she gets things done, and she wants to join her campaign. Sally grins at her. "Welcome aboard!" she says.

Chesney's bag is packed, and he's ready to go. Fiz is worried, he should be in hospital, not on a plane full of germs. Ches tells her that Joseph needs him, and he's not about to make him an orphan. "Look at you, all manly!" says Fiz, while Sinead looks on also seemingly impressed.

Mary is preparing to give baby George some mashed banana, despite the fact that he's not yet on solids, and is ignoring Jude's protests. Just then Angie comes in and isn't pleased. She tells Jude that they will decide when their son is weaned, not Mary. Jude tells her that Mary is trying to make up for lost time. Angie then tells him that her old firm want her back in Cape Town, they've offered her a promotion. He's aghast and they start to argue, so she picks up her bag and, taking the baby, slams out of the front door.

The social worker has arrived, and Summer's friends are leaving. Summer tells the social worker that she was sad because it was her dad's birthday, and she won't be doing it again. She said Billy and Todd gave her a massive telling off, but they're the best dads ever. Simon, who has just put his coat on, hears this and turns round. "You reckon?" he says, and goes on to say that his dad has a black eye thanks to Billy. "He beat him up," he says. "He's not a vicar, he's a hypocrite!"

Chesney is about to get in the car. Sinead gives him a big hug and tells him to go carefully. Just as he's about to get in the car she stops him. "Will you marry me?" she asks. Chesney looks stunned, but Tyrone hoots the horn and so he jumps in and they drive off.

Anne Logan.

Billy confesses his assault to Jeanette who tells him that it raises serious questions about the adoption.

Craig, Kirk and Beth realise that Joseph will have to live with them. A shocked Sinead tells Beth about her impulsive proposal. In his taxi, Chesney tells Tyrone the same.

Simon storms into the Rovers, livid that Peter didn't report Billy to the police. His father makes him see that if he had done so, Summer would have suffered by being taken into care. Simon has to admit that social services know now.

Jude tells Mary that Angie can't settle into living in Weatherfield.

Sally lies to Kirk that Gina has the hots for him and she's amazed Beth hasn't noticed. Kirk falls for the ruse and realises he has to part company with Gina.

Chesney rings Sinead and, satisfying himself that she's serious, accepts the proposal. She's deliriously happy and they all celebrate in the Rovers.

Seb asks Phelan for a pay rise. Hearing that he's been talking to Anna, he demands to know exactly what they've been talking about, not happy that he's pally with her and has mentioned the contents of the office safe. He fires him, saying that he doesn't trust him anymore.

Sally gets Gina to wave to Kirk across the bar, further unsettling him.

Peter calls on Billy and Todd while Jeanette is still there and takes the blame for the incident.

Kirk tells a relieved Gina that he doesn't need a campaign manager any more. Grateful, she agrees to carry out the same role for Sally from now onwards.

Jeanette says Summer can stay with Billy and Todd for now, but they will be monitoring the situation. Todd demands that Billy is honest with him about how violent he was.

Angie confesses to Toyah that there is no job offer but she is desperate to return home.

A shocked Daniel hears about the proposal. Outside the pub, he is overcome and is sick on the pavement.

Phelan removes the handgun from the safe and hides it in an old paint pot.

Todd and Billy agree to a clean slate in the future with no more secrets.

Friday 20 October

This is brief update on last night's first visit to the cobbles. This episode was written by Jonathan Harvey and directed by Michael Lacey

We begin with Mary and her newly-acquired family who are about to head back to South Africa. Angie can't wait to get away from her mother-in-law but Mary has other ideas and asks Jude if she can take the baby out on her own one last time.

Todd is getting things beck on track with Summer and has plans to have a belated birthday celebration for her father in the Bistro but Billy is distracted by his guilt over beating up Peter.

Meanwhile Gina is getting deeper and deeper into debt and receives another final demand. She wonders how much she'll earn for being Sal's campaign manager. Not enough, it would seem so she goes off in search of employment.

There's a man in a car hanging around the street. He looks like a nasty piece of work and we gather someone – presumably Vinny - has sent him to go after Phelan. Later on, while Eileen is outside clearing out the shed we see him watching her from an upstairs window so somehow he's found his way into their house.

Angie and Jude are waiting for the taxi to take them to the airport but there's no sign of Mary and the baby. Angie is furious. Jude finally gets through to her on the phone. Mary claims she's taken the baby out in the van and they've broken down whereas in reality they're in the back office of the florists where she's feeding the baby mashed bananas. Her plan is to keep him there long enough so that they miss their flight.

Of all unlikely people it's Adam who discovers what Mary's done and persuades her to do the right thing and take her grandson back home.

Gina goes into Dev's to ask for a job. She's after a lot more than that it turns out when she kisses him passionately by the baked beans display. Dev appears more than happy with this turn of events.

Mary arrives back with the baby. Angie is livid. At first Mary tries to stick to her story but then admits what she's done. She and Angie continue to argue while Jude is stuck in the middle and Norris tries to calm everyone down. Angie demands an apology from Mary.

Daniel goes into the Rovers with Kate but the sight of Sinead sitting there with a large display of balloons and flowers sent by Chesney tips him over the edge and he rushes outside to have a quick meltdown. Ken tries to talk to him but he gets short shrift.

In the cafe Anna is giving some bags of food to Seb who has told her he's lost his job. Suddenly Anna has an idea – she thinks she knows just the person who can help him.

Todd and Summer are waiting in the Bistro for Billy to join them. They are getting on really well. So well, in fact, that Summer tells Todd she thinks her dad chose the perfect couple to look after her. Todd declares they will forever be the three amigos. What neither of them know is that at that precise moment Billy has taken himself into the police station where he's turning himself in for committing an assault.

Angie is desperate to leave for the airport but she and Mary are still at loggerheads. Norris interrupts them – he's noticed there's something wrong with the baby.

Eileen and Phelan come downstairs from, we imagine, having a good time. Neither of them notice that the thug was upstairs with them. Eileen leaves and Phelan goes into the kitchen but before he has time to react he's attacked from behind with an iron bar.

This is episode 9280. The writer for this episode was Mark Wadlow and the director was Michael Lacey. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks. I am a little later than normal as real life has sadly intervened this week.

We open with Pat on the floor with Vince's heavy standing over him having floored him with a crowbar. Pat offers him double what Vince/Harvey is paying him. Once Pat gets back to his feet the two struggle before Pat asserts his authority over the intruder. Damage is done to a variety of Eileen's photos and decorations. The intruder beats a speedy response. Pat first rings Eileen to get her to stay away but then realises she might be at risk and tells her to come home now. He also bandages the wound on his arm from the crowbar as he clears up the mess. But all messages are going to voicemail.

Vicar, man of God and rough houser Billy is giving a statement of his evil doings to the police over beating up Peter. This will I assume end his career in the God squad. He tells the truth and the policeman will need to get confirmation from Peter Barlow. Billy says he could not face his parishioners if he did not own up. He deserves to be punished for his actions.

Angie carrying George, Jude, Mary and Norris run into A&E where she Angie wants help for the 8 month old boy. Mary assures Angie nothing happened whilst George was with her earlier in the day. George and his parents are soon taken to be seen. Mary and Norris are left to worry but when the family emerge it seems to be a viral infection. Sleep and fluids are the solution. Mary suggests it would be best if they did not return to SA until George has made a full recovery but Angie makes it clear that is their decision not hers. Angie then flies off the handle as she thinks everyone is calling her a rubbish mother. The medic hears all of this and asks Mrs Appleton if they could have a few words and takes her off to a side office.

At the cab office Anna wants Tim to give Seb a job as a junior window cleaner - nothing doing. A smart Sally comes in ahead of her "do" as she cannot find her campaign manager Gina to hand out the nibbles. Anna tells Tim that people gave him a chance - and Seb deserves a chance as well. Seb has to admit that Pat has sacked him. Tim says no job.

Pat goes onto the Street calling for Eileen and as he reaches the Rovers she emerges from having a drink with Liz - her phone battery is dead. She spots the arm wound - which is still bleeding and Pat reckons he scratched it at work. he explains his concern for her as being down to an anonymous call which said that she was in a car accident. He is very pleased to see her - perhaps he does love her.

Billy returns home where Todd reminds him he missed the meal with Summer. Todd says he has explained that Billy is like a doctor on call. Billy tells Todd where he actually was. Todd thinks he must be mad - but Billy cannot live with the lies. He cannot participate in a cover up. Todd thinks he has jeopardised everything. Billy is sure he is a better dad for telling the truth. Billy is expecting be arrested and charged with ABH. Billy is off to pray.

After the break Angie is trying to explain herself to the medic, partly that she feels like a complete failure as a mother and is constantly tired - the medic immediately and with little evidence diagnoses postnatal depression (there is an ITV outbreak at the moment as Emmerdale has the same problem). Angie refuses to discuss the subject with Jude or Mary. Anyway Angie does not want to know and grabs a number of different leaflets from the display without seeing if they are relevant.

On the Street Sally is still looking for Gina she tells Tim. Tim explains that Anna asked for a job for Seb; he said no and now he feels guilty. Sally heads off to greet her guests as they arrive and Tim goes back round the corner and tells Seb he can have a trial and Anna says he can do anything so long as he keeps Seb out of prison. Tim goes and Anna and Seb have a celebratory hug which Faye seems from the other side of the Street.

Mary worries some more until Angie emerges. Apparently she has been thinking and maybe they can stay a bit longer. Mary would love that.

Sally is handing the nibbles around to the councilors and is about to discuss her plans when Dev and Gina emerge from upstairs where they have been clearly enjoying each other's intimate company. Dev has been completely converted to Sally's camp by a passionate exchange of views with Gina. Gina says he took some wooing - but once he was pressed he melted. Gina has the biggest widest smile on her face imaginable through all this. Dev admits he is rock solid behind Sally now.

Seb and Anna returns to Anna's house and tell Faye the good news about the new job helping Sophie. Faye goes to get a different textbook and hears Anna telling Seb she cannot do her usual time tomorrow.

Pat says he knocked the wedding photo off the unit and will get it sorted. He is going out and tells her to put the deadlock on.

Once the councilors have gone Sally tries to tell Gina off - but she and Dev still have their hands all over each other. Sally is definitely not amused. Once Dev goes Gina asks Sally not to tell Dev about her problems. Gina reckons it will probably fizzle out in a couple of days.

Back at Number three George is sleeping peacefully. Angie is knocking back more than her share of a couple of bottles of wine and admitting that she is a control freak - and Mary agrees they are very similar. Angie has not phoned her employer - which Norris finds surprising.

A high court enforcement officer is collecting debts - from either Gina or Sally Metcalfe who is guarantor. Gina admits who she is and promises she will settle up next week. He goes. Dev sees from across the Street and asks if she has another admirer?

Angie takes another glass of wine to go and have a soak. Norris is still surprised she has done nothing about the job. Mary is clearing up when the leaflets fall out of Angie's bag. The leaflets are for alcoholism and Mary jumps to the conclusion that Angie is a drinker.

Pat pops over to see Flora and takes her on a little adventure. So apparently she is happy to go. Then she remembers Harvey will be there tomorrow. So Pat promises that Harvey can join them as a welcome home party.

Roll credits.

Busy episode. Not sure how the heavy got into Eileen's house. And is there real evidence that Pat despite being a bad boy actually loves Eileen?

Faye has no idea what Anna has been doing with Seb so will no doubt think the worst.

And Billy was no doubt right to admit his guilt - but he should have talked to Summer before going off to pray.

And that debt collector looks a nasty piece of work as well.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Monday 23 October

Part 1 and 2 written by Susan Oudot Directed by Michael Lacey

Phelan helps Nicola look over plans for her flat with a view to renovations to improve the space, needing to make room for a baby but she wants to talk about Seb and why he sacked the lad. Noted, Eileen pats him on the shoulder right where he was crowbarred the other day and it's clearly still tender. She is offered no reason as to why. Later in the Bistro, Nicola then brings up Gary's name. Phelan doesn't think she should tell Gary, give him the chance to know his son and vice versa but Phelan doesn't think it's necessary. He points out the whole family is poison and they hate him. Anyway, places to go. He takes off looking grim.

Later, we see Vinny coming up stairs and through the hallway of the nursing home looking for his mother. But it's Phelan that comes out of the bathroom.

Phelan has spirited Flora away somewhere and Vinny promises to kill him if he's hurt her. Phelan wants to talk business. Vinny is given 24 hours to come up with the money he stole from Phelan. Later, Phelan is in the cellar with Andy, telling him the new hostage was a mate once, but it went wrong. He tells him it'll be Vinny and he places Michael's death at Vinny's hands too. He's doing it to get Andy angry about having to look after Michael's "killer" and it's working

Down the road, Seb can't start working with Sophie because he has to look after the children so Anna volunteers to go over. Kevin is less than impressed and nothing he says is going to change her mind about helping. Faye's suspicions aren't going away either. Tim's annoyed that Seb hasn't shown up and Faye admits to Sophie that she thinks he's cheating on her. Not sure if she thinks he's cheating with Anna or not. Sophie thinks she would confront him or her if she was in that position.

Over at Seb's, Abi finds Anna there and is angry. Seb tells her he's got a job and they need the money but a social services worker arrives just as he's about to leave. Abi is erratic, still furious at Anna who's telling white lies about being a family friend who helps out now and then. The Social Worker wants to help and is anxious to get the family into the system so they can get that help. Abi is clearly on the edge. Anna and the Social Worker eventually leave and when she closes the door, Abi reckons it was Anna that called the Social. Seb goes off to work with Sophie and Abi starts to make a phone call but doesn't. Not then.

Later we see her answer the door to her dealer and make a transaction. She's in tears because she can't resist and can't take the stress. At Number 13, Seb thanks Anna for helping and she hugs him, again noticed by Faye. Anna nips to the shop, leaving Faye to confront Seb. Yes she suspects he's together with her mother. They argue and he defends himself, telling her she's got it wrong. He takes her to his house to help explain things, and they find Abi out cold on the floor.

Faye calls the ambulance in spite of Seb's objections. Faye is sent upstairs to keep the twins away while the EMTs are working on Abi who is still unresponsive. She eventually comes out of it and breaks down. The EMTs want to take her to hospital. She doesn't want to go and Seb promises to look after her. Faye has had her eyes opened. I wonder how much she remembers from when her own mother was a user?

Anna tells Kevin about the social worker and how it all sounded very positive. Problem is, Abi has overdosed and that's going to bring social services down on the family like a ton of bricks. I'm guessing it was Kevin that called the social after his reaction that morning and how pleased he was that "whoever" called did the right thing according to Anna.

Abi is on the sofa sleeping it off and gives Faye a bit of history. Abi started using shortly after the twins came. He admits acting up at school to get some kind of attention. His father isn't around and she's scream at her son now and then, too. She tells him about her birth mother. Someone's at the door. It's that social worker, backed with police. The authorities won't let the children stay with Seb who's only 16. He's adamant they aren't taking the kids into care and they're insisting they have to. Abi mutters that Anna can't have them when Seb suggests it. Faye realizes there isn't any choice and he probably does, too and he lets them take the kids, making them promise that the twins will stay together. He's really upset, crying and devastated.

Back at the Street, Anna knows that Kevin was the one that called. Wasn't he? Maybe not. Faye comes in with Seb who's resentful. He blames Anna for putting Abi in the state of mind that had her so fearful of losing her kids that she overdosed and lost them anyway. He thinks Anna called Social Services and Faye does, too. Anna shrieks for no good reason and Seb calls her an evil cow. And Faye? She stands by her man and leaves with Seb.

Steve has been signed up on a dating site. Or he did it himself, not sure. He's getting romance advice from Dev and Tim and neither one of them have been all that successful over the years. Dev admits to a fling with Gina and advises him to get back to playing golf. Later in the pub, Dev tells Tim they need to help Steve. Later we see him in the cafe and so does Moira. They exchange few small talk words. She offers him a go at her new yoga dvd and goes off. Dev arrives with a fitness tracker for Steve as a way to help him. All those endorphins from exercise, you see.

Alya is waving a very brief pair of knickers around the garage. Kevin retreats quickly. Luke admires. It's not what you think. She's sampling new products of her own design but can't get anyone interested without Underworld being a going concern. Luke encourages her. Adam also admires them as he comes by. He wants Luke to put a stack of business cards in the garage.

Back at the flat, Aidan is surly and snaps at Alya about the messy flat. Her flat, she reminds him. She asks him for some input but he's not interested and leaves to go to the pub where Eva's serving. Adam arrives and Eva's awkward with him, too, while Aidan pours booze down his gullet. All three of them snipe at each other with Aidan being very rude, throwing money at Eva.

Aidan continues to drink and gets surlier and surlier and is about to wipe the floor with Adam's smug mug after Adam deliberately waved the red rag but Johnny had just come in an is able to keep Aidan back. Adam looks satisfied and Eva looks very sad. Johnny takes Aidan back to his flat, playing a tough love card and telling Aidan to stop the self pity and just get on with things. He thinks Aidan would love to rise to a challenge but Aidan is not in a good place. Johnny reminds him he's only got one life. Aidan later apologizes to Alya who's surrounded by drawings that she's not happy with. He offers to help after all.

Mary apologizes to Jude and makes no excuses. He tells her they are only considering staying. He is a bit subdued. She offers to go on a viewing of a flat with Angie if he thinks she wouldn't mind. I think she would but he smiles. The next time we see Mary, she's come out of Victoria Court flats with Angie who doesn't seem too happy to have Mary with her. Mary offers again to help with the baby and hopes Angie's employers weren't too let down. Angie brushes it off, because it was all a lie anyway, if you'll recall. They go into the cafe but Roy is nowhere to be seen. Angie uses the excuse to leave and change George's nappy.

Wednesday 25 October

We open with Phelan searching through drawers and cupboards until he finds a photo album of Eileen's. He pulls out a photo of her and Michael and tears it until he has the part showing just Michael.

Over at Anna's house, she's in the kitchen looking fed up and worried. Faye is over at Sally's, talking to Tim, telling him that while Anna pretends to like Seb, she obviously doesn't. Tim tells her to cut Anna some slack, but Faye just flounces off.

Kevin goes home to check Anna is ok. She asks him if he phoned social services, and he protests vehemently that he didn't. Anna says they must find out who did, because until then Faye and Seb are going to blame her. Kev tells her that if it wasn't her, and it wasn't him, there is only one person it could be.

Sally comes downstairs and Faye asks her if she can stay there. Sally says she can, but urges her to talk to Anna.

Alya and Aidan are in the cafe, working on their new business. Luke comes in and tries to talk to her, and she explains that the wifi in the flat is playing up, that's why they're there, but they are very busy following up leads, she hasn't got time to talk to him. As he walks away, Tracy, who is standing nearby, makes an acid comment about the work/love life balance.

Fiz comes in and is somewhat puzzled to see Alya and Aidan working together. Aidan gets up to go and see a potential customer, and Fiz goes over and asks Alya if she could give them a hand with their crowd-funding page. Alya explains that she's rather busy, she and Aidan have started a new project. Fiz reminds her that he's the reason they're in this mess, but Alya says she's thinking of her future. Fiz is angry and walks off.

Craig is about to leave for work when his mother comes in. He tells her he's on the late shift with his new mentor.

Seb sees Phelan loading up his van and asks if he needs a hand, and tells him that Anna dobbed his mum in to social services. Pat calls her a chargrilled fishwife, and says she loves sticking her beak in. Seb tells him he doesn't know what happened before, but he would never talk to anyone about his business, especially not Anna. Then he asks for his job back. Pat says he's about to go on holiday, he'll see when he gets back. As Seb walks away, we see Vinny in a parked vehicle, on the phone to someone, saying how 'it' didn't work, and they would have to go to Plan B, and would need cash, fast.

Steve is looking at the fitbit on his wrist. He's done 42 steps, and tells Tim he's aiming for 10,000. Just then Moira comes in and tells Steve she's bought a dehumidifier for the flat, and he now owes her 78 pounds. Steve isn't sure they need one, but she assures him they do.

Phelan visits Andy and gives him the photo of Michael, and tells him he would still be with them if it wasn't for Vinny. Andy asks what Pat wants him to do. "Easy tiger," says Pat, "if this works we'll both finally be free."

Dev sees Sophie and Seb in the cafe and asks about having his shop windows cleaned today. Sophie tells him it'll be done this afternoon, and tells Seb she'll do it, he can do Adam's office. Anna goes over and tries to talk to Seb but he won't respond.

Tracy sees Luke in the pub and asks how it's going with Alya, only she seemed very cozy with Aidan. Luke gets cross and tells her not to judge everyone by her twisted standards.

Back in the cafe, Seb tells Anna they were doing ok until she poked her nose in. She swears to him she never told Social Services, but he doesn't seem to want to listen, and shouts at her that they don't want her, they don't need her, even Faye hates her. "You're just an ugly, chargrilled fishwife who won't leave us alone," he says. At that, Anna slaps him hard across the face, much to the horror of everyone in the cafe. (Except Pat Phelan, who smirks!) Anna then realises what she's done and tries to apologise, but Seb is having none of it and rushes outside.

Steve goes into Dev's shop, and Dev asks how the dating game is going, and then suggests that they get a gang of 'the boys' together, and hit the clubs. Gina is working in the shop and pricks her ears up at this, and doesn't seem to like it, so she comes up with a plan which involves inviting Steve to Dev's for his tea, and she'll get a single friend there. When Steve has gone, Dev asks Gina who the friend is – but Gina doesn't know, she tells him they've got 5 hours to find her.

A furious Anna tells Roy she saw Pat smirking, and she's sure it was Pat's words coming out of Seb's mouth. She gets more and more worked up, so Roy tells her he doesn't want to see any more violence in the cafe.

Fiz and Beth are also in the cafe moaning about Alya, they think they should all be working together, she's stabbed them in the back. Alya comes in then, and Beth starts to get up to go over to her, but is held back by Fiz. Beth mutters that she deserves a slap, but Fiz points out that if things go well for Alya she might have jobs for them. Alya comes over to them and says she doesn't want any bad feeling, so Fiz wonders if she might have jobs for the rest of them. Alya tells them it's really early days, and while they might need some help making up prototypes and samples, there won't be any money in it. Beth gets cross then and says she wouldn't work for her even if she was offering a million quid a day!

In the police station, Craig gets a bit stroppy with a female police officer, who, he says, is drinking out of his mug. She asks him if he's sure, only there are plenty more in the cupboard just like that one. He says he knows it's 'his' because there's a chip on the handle. She repeats that it's identical to several others by the sink. Then she asks his name, and tells him she's PC Jess Hayward, his new mentor!

Fiz joins Tyrone in the pub and he shows her a cheque he's just got in the post from a woman who saw the publicity about Hope and thought it might put a smile on her face. Fiz stares at him, and asks if he thinks they should keep it. He says, yes, he thinks so.

Seb sees Sophie and says he'll go and clean the solicitor's windows.

Anna comes up to the builder's yard office, and tells him she's sure he was behind Seb getting so wound up. He says he can only take credit for the 'chargrilled fishwife' line. Then he goes on to say he was sorry to hear about Katy, and starts talking about daft Owen. Anna gets so wound up then that she flies at him with a hammer in her hand, but he quickly overpowers her and flings her to the floor, telling her to get out of his office. When she has sloped off down the stairs, he picks something up from the floor – it's one of Anna's earrings.

Steve arrives at Dev's house, smartly dressed and looking forward to his blind date. Just then there's a knock on the door and Gina opens it to let in – Moira!

Shaking and upset, Anna arrives back at the cafe, to find Roy has closed and is off to the cash and carry. She avoids eye contact with him, telling him she's ok when he asks briefly if everything is ok.

Sophie is at home, telling Sally about Anna's behaviour towards Seb in the cafe. "First she dobs his family in, then she slaps him across the face," she says. It's then that Sally confesses that she called Social Services. Sophie is shocked and tells her that Seb thinks it was Anna. Sally wonders if she should talk to him and asks where he is now. Sophie tells her he's at Adam's office, cleaning the windows. Just then Faye comes in and asks how Seb did today. Sophie and Sally break off their conversation abruptly and Sophie tells her that he did well, he's a good worker. "Why does everyone lie to me," says Faye. Sophie protests that she's not lying. Faye tells her that she and Seb have phones and she's heard about the bust up in the cafe. Sophie tells her it was over quickly and they went back to cleaning windows.

Seb has put a ladder up to the upstairs windows at Adam's office, and starts climbing the ladder. At the same time, Anna comes out of the cafe. As Seb gets close to the top of the ladder he manages to lean backwards a bit and whole ladder tips back and he falls to the ground with a yell. Anna turns and sees him lying flat on his back on the cobbles, motionless. She rushes over and kneels beside him. There's blood coming from behind his head, so she pulls her phone out and calls an ambulance. Just then Faye comes out into the Street and sees him, she screams his name and rushes over, begging Anna to help.

Anne Logan.

Most of this evening's first visit to the cobbles centres around Pat Phelan. I, for one, will be glad to see the back of the basement where he's been keeping his hostage and no doubt Andy feels much the same way.

He has now been joined by Vinny who is desperate to convince Andy that Pat was the one who killed Michael. But Pat has messed with Andy's head to such an extent that he doesn't know who to believe.

Meanwhile Nicola is on a mission to find out the truth about her biological father and she starts by going to the cafe to ask Shona what she thinks of Pat. She doesn't learn much there, so she goes round for another visit to their old friend and neighbour, Lydia.

At first Lydia is afraid to talk to Nicola but finally she admits the sordid truth. There was no love affair between Nicola's mother and Pat – she became pregnant with Nicola when Pat raped her.

Meanwhile on the street, Alya is annoyed with Luke for being annoyed with her for missing his surprise date and for assuming there's something going on with her and Aidan while all she's doing is trying to set up a new business with him. She takes out her frustrations by cooking chicken goujons for tea.

Back in the basement Vinny is desperately trying to convince Andy that the two of them can join forces to make their escape from Pat. But Andy's been locked up for so long he's totally lost the plot and he knows Pat will be ahead of them every step of the way. He tells Vinny Pat will be listening, he's probably got CCTV cameras as well. As it happens, Andy's right and Pat arrives in person.

Pat has heard all he needs to know. He takes Andy to one side and tells him he has to kill Vinny. Andy begs Pat not to make him to it. Vinny can't hear what's been said but, whatever it is, Andy is very upset by it.

We have a few moments of respite in between all of this unpleasant Pat/Andy/Vinny business.

Fiz is in the cafe splashing the cash, which hasn't gone unnoticed by Beth and others. There's an awkward moment as she and Ty try to get their stories straight as to why they've suddenly got money to spare. Fiz mentions the large tip Ty got for doing a pick-up job. Luke says that's strange, they didn't have any pick-ups.

Back we go to Pat who is just putting Vinny and Andy in the back of the van when he's interrupted by a phone call from Nicola. She presents him with an ultimatum – he must meet her by her parents' bench or he'll never see her again. So Pat locks the two men in the van while he goes off to find out what this is all about.

We return to the street where Aidan and Alya arrive back at the flat in high spirits. It looks as though they've got an order and their business is taking off. But Aidan takes his joyful mood a bit too far when he goes to kiss Alya who backs away in horror.

Back in the van, Vinny has worked out that Pat wants Andy to kill him. He tries to convince Andy that Pat's a liar and that he intends to kill them both. He tells Andy their only chance of escape is if they work together.

Meanwhile, Nicola is waiting for Pat at the bench. When he arrives, she confronts him with what she's found out. She tells her father he's a liar who rapes women and, to make it clear she knows exactly what she's talking about, Nicola says she knows he raped Anna Windass and he also raped her mother.

We open at the park bench where Nicola is confronting Harvey Weinstein, sorry Pat Phelan, over the allegations that he raped her mother and Anna Windass. Harvey, sorry Pat, only ever took part in consensual sex you will be pleased to know. Pat loved Nicola's mother more than Eileen or anyone else. He also says Nicola has changed his life and he loves her. Nicola wonders if Pat was obsessed with her mother (Annabel) and is now obsessed with her. Pat continues to shout at her. He calls Anna Windass a malicious bitch. Nicola says two people have never met each other have told similar stories about him. Pat adds Lydia's name to the roll call. Apparently Lydia always hated Pat. But Lydia was only repeating what she had been told by Nicola's mother. Throughout all of this Pat is pacing around and is clearly angry whilst Nicola is merely distressed. Nicola walks away from Pat and he follows her. Pat reckons Annabel made up the rape story to save her marriage to Isaac. Pat is sure they loved each other and Anna is a psychopath. Nicola turns back to him and says that at work she hears kids lying, and their parents and she always knows it. But with Pat she does not know if he is lying or not (to be honest I am not sure if Pat knows either). Pat tries to explain events with Anna - he did not force her - Nicola spits in his face that Anna was blackmailed and that is tantamount to rape. Pat assures Nicola that she willingly prostituted herself but Nicola repeats it was rape. Pat calls it a "transaction". So Nicola asks about Annabel. Pat says that was as far from rape as it is possible to be. Nicola decides that either he is telling the truth or is he really good liar and she cannot work out which. But she knows that Anna and Lydia were not lying. She tells Pat what he has done is evil. Pat does not understand why Nicola will not believe him and slaps his head repeatedly. Nicola tells him to get away from her. She heads away from the pond and tells Pat never to come near them (her and baby) ever again.

Alya returns from her meeting and Luke asks her how the meeting went. Apparently she has a big order (excuse me she has zero production capacity!). She also admits that Aidan ought to be known as Harvey Weinstein as he does fancy her (remind me how many notches there are on Aidan's bedpost?).

In the van Harvey/Vince is shouting for help but the radio is playing and no-one can hear. Andy is virtually mute. Andy says he will not kill Harvey who says they need to prepare for Pat's return. If not they will both be dead. Andy still believes that Pat is not a killer. They hear external noises and Harvey shouts and sits up. Pat opens the rear door of the van and hits Harvey hard knocking out again.

In the Rovers, Eva is serving Fiz who is asking Ty about the Mandy who checks out his bum. Luke comes in looking for Aidan who emerges from the Gents. Ty grabs Luke who tells Aidan to keep his sleazy hands off of his girlfriend. Alya comes in and she leads Luke away before they come to blows. Eva says "It didn't take you long to get back to your old tricks, did it?".

Nicola is at Eileen's front door but she is not answering. She wants to tell Eileen the truth but a passing Anna tells her that Eileen will not hear such stories and it would be a waste of time. Anna tells her to get away from here and from Pat - for the sake of the baby (remember Anna you do not know it is your grandchild). Otherwise Pat will make her life hell as he has Anna's. Nicola gets in a waiting black cab as Eileen emerges having been in the shower and sees her departing. Rosie dressed up to the nines walks by.

Pat is driving his cargo of captives into some dark and remote location. Harvey looks to be still out for the count but is actually releasing the ties on his wrists. As the van stops he shows Andy he is free and believes that Andy will help him over power Pat. He does not realise the extent to which Andy is in thrall to Pat. Harvey feigns still being unconscious. Pat tells Andy to get out of the van. Pat unties Andy's hands. Pat has his back to the van as Harvey eases himself to the door. As Harvey goes to jump Pat Andy gives him a warning. The two men scuffle until Pat hits him hard again and knocks him out. Apparently the action is taking place at the J Pinfold and Son Limited Legacy Reach Paper Mill which produces Industrial Paper! Grabbing a leg each Pat and Andy drag Harvey inside. Once there Andy resumes the whining telling Pat that he was to be trusted and that he had tried to convince Harvey not to attack Pat. Andy comes up with another possibility whereby it is made to look like Andy has killed Harvey. Pat is not interested and gives Andy the gun. He reminds Andy that Harvey laughed at Michael's death. Pat tells a story to get Andy believing Harvey watched Michael die after pulling a gun on him. As Harvey sits up Andy pulls the trigger believing that Pat will then release him. Pat tells him "Well Done" and to give him the gun. Andy then points the gun at Pat and we go to a break.

Pat's silver tongue goes into action as he tells Andy he is free now and not to be silly - just hand over the gun there's a good boy. Andy is in about ten different minds and he eventually hands the gun over. Pat raises it and Andy reminds Pat he is not a killer. He knows Pat has done some bad things - but he also knows he has changed in recent months (the influence of Nicola of course). So see Pat - you cannot do it can you? Underneath it all Pat you are a good man Andy adds, you are not a murderer. Pat says that Andy does not know him. We switch to an external shot of the location and we hear a gun discharged. Pat is looking down on two bodies conveniently lying on mats. He closes Andy's eyes. He then says that he is really sorry kid, but he had to as Andy would have been unable to live with himself. Pat then says "Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen".

Next we see Pat putting two bodies individually wrapped in plastic (or similar) into a river. We can se rain pouring down on the river surface. He collapses with tiredness into the driver's seat of the van. His hands are shaking - and his phone rings who reports that Nicola was there earlier but that they did not talk as she stormed off. And Anna was there as well. Which reminds Pat that he has Anna's ear ring.

In the Bistro Kate is telling Aidan that he needs to leave the flat. Alya comes in and also tells Aidan to leave. Aidan accepts it and will pick his stuff up and leave (looks like it is the pink Range Rover tonight). Alya and Aidan do agree to continue to keep working together proving he controls his Weinstein behaviour.

Pat sneaks into the legal offices (which are on the first floor and were the windows Seb was going to clean earlier when he over balanced - has Tim never heard of Elf'n'safety and done a risk assessment for lone working at height? - he puts some form of camera on a tiny tripod in a corner and then disturbs Rosie who is watching the season finale of SVU (with pink earphones) as her internet has gone wonky at home. Pat has an excuse to go into Todd's office and plants Anna's ear ring on the floor near the window. Pat leaves and I doubt if Rosie will remember if he has been there!

Aidan finds his worldly belongings packed up and waiting on the doorstep.

In the Rovers Fiz gets a bullseye - she is still thinking of Ty's bum! Pat strolls in and finds Shona who tells him he is in trouble with Eileen who wants to open the bubbly as they are on holiday. Pat gets a bottle of Prosecco and he, Eileen and Shona share it. He and Anna keep exchanging looks. He stands next to Anna to order. He tells her that he knows she spoke to Nicola and Anna believes that Pat will never see Nicola again. Pat says she should not have done that but Anna responds she is not scared of him. Anna keeps on digging the hole deeper. Pat pretends to ignore it. Eileen appears and kisses him and he merely refers to the same old mad Anna. Pat may have had a rotten day but about to go on holiday and sat with Eileen and Shona it does not seem so bad after all. Shona toasts "Best Day Ever" and the three clink glasses. Anna watches. Pat appreciates the best day ever and the Prosecco.

Roll credits.

Well he has now crossed the point of no return. He has now killed and there must be a day of reckoning. So will he kill again?

I am not sure I ever want to think about Ty's bum.

And Rosie continues to entertain.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop or should that be Eileen Derbyshire?

Part 1 written by Ella Greenhill Directed by Brett Fallis Part 2 written by Mark Burt Directed by Brett Fallis

It's Phelan's birthday and Eileen is trying to organize a birthday lunch before they go on their holiday. After the events of last week, Phelan is anxious to get Eileen out of town so he wants to get to the airport early instead. He doesn't want Nicola to rock up and pour more poison about him into her ear, poison she's heard from Anna, which, of course, is the truth backed up by her mother's friend's testimony, and Eileen just might believe Nicola where she wouldn't believe Anna.

Funny how he managed to find time to visit the hospital and whisper into Seb's ear that Anna wanted to kill him. A bit redundant since I'm pretty sure Seb is already predisposed to blaming Anna anyway. We don't even know if that kind of subliminal stuff works!

He gets Eileen off in a cab to the airport just in time to miss a visit from the police. Todd and Summer are there instead. Turns out the house he's been working on has gone up in smoke, and they suspect arson. Convenient, eh what?

Faye wishes she could be at the hospital 24/7. Anna wants to go with her and Faye can't stop her but plans to ignore her! Again, the doctor tells all of Seb's medical business not to his mother who's standing right there, next of kin and legal guardian, but to a stranger, the mother of Seb's girlfriend along with Tim and Faye. But when the doctor says Seb's white blood cell count is low, Abi is distinctly uncomfortable. Turns out, Abi, in all her medical knowledge is pretty sure Seb has contracted HIV from a former girlfriend. Seems his girlfriend died in an accident and while she was in the emergency while they were trying to save her, tests for a blood transfusion showed she had HIV but Abi never told Seb nor had him tested. She tells this to Anna who starts mouthing off at Abi yet again.

Later, Anna tells Tim the HIV news which potentially affects Faye. She thinks Seb should be told by Abi and they shouldn't tell Faye until they know if Seb has it or not. Tim is so upset about the potential problem that when Sally calls him to complain that she thinks she's losing the election, he shouts at her.

As expected, when Seb wakes up he, he's in pain and has a difficult timetalking. Faye puts lots of words in his mouth like "love" and such and she's very glad he's going to be ok. But he tells her Anna wants him dead and she pushed him, miming what Phelan said to him. I guess it worked, then.

Anna has obviously persuaded Abi to tell the doctor her suspicions. Faye is asked to leave the room. She doesn't want to but Tim takes her off. Anna stays in the room, too at Abi's request. Seb is told about his possible medical condition in the worst possible way. He asks if he's dying and his mother blurts out that HIV doesn't kill anymore if it's treated. (well, yes it does, but you can live a very long time if it's managed well) Seb is furious at his mother for not telling him before. This leads to Seb admitting to Anna he may have exposed Faye to it after a one time condom accident.

Out in the hallway, Anna's temper has the better of her yet again because Abi makes one dodgey comment about Faye and she's all over Abi like a rash, shoving her up against a wall. Faye sees it and after she calls the police on her. They question Seb who can't remember much about the accident. When he hears that Faye told the police what he'd said when he woke up, he's shocked that she'd turn in her own mother. Abi's not surprised, not after Anna was rough with her earlier. Faye later regrets it and admits to Anna she called them.

It's election day and Sally is having a photo shoot in hopes that she'll come out on top and will need a family portrait. She's not pleased that Tim is wearing work clothes nor would I be. Surely he knew this was coming? He tries to get out of it by saying he has to take Faye to the hospital. Sally's further embarrassed by Kirk and Beth who are dressed up in costume. You know she feels it cheapens things. People are voting for Kirk but Gina tried to impress on Kirk all of the good things Sally is standing for and wants to change.

After Tim has shouted at her over the phone, Sally's upset that she's not putting family first but Gina, Sophie anye. Sally and Tim follow her out, leaving Seb with Anna. He doesn't seem to have that seething hate for Anna at the moment.

Laterd Rosie persuade her that she has to follow her dream and she can do so much good for so many people. She even makes a great speech out on the street, only it's just to Beth and Kirk and her own female family members. Before she heads to the town hall, though, Tim calls her and tells her the HIV news that he's just heard from Anna. Instead of going to the town hall, Sally changes direction and joins Tim at the hospital. Seb asks Faye to leave and turns away when she kisses him goodb at home, Sally, Tim and Anna sit Faye down and tell her about Seb's HIV potential diagnosis. They tell her that she'll have to have a blood test.

It all turns out well for Sally's campaign when Kirk throws his support behind her and Sally wins the election by a narrow margin. I really fail to believe that there was not one other qualified candidate in this race but there you go. Lady Mayor Metcalfe it is. What does that make Tim? And Kirk? He gets a job doing deliveries for Tracy's flower shop, after Sally puts her on the spot.

Chesney is bringing Joseph back. Poor little lad has lost his mum and now has been taken away from the only home he likely remembers well, including his granny and grandad. Sinead finds that she's thinking a lot about the pregnancy she terminated but Beth, dressed as a big pink flower (and the little dog is a butterfly!) tells her there's lots of time yet if she wants another baby with a good future for she and Chesney. Craig offers to let Joseph have his room and he will sleep on the couch. Sinead thinks that's a great idea and utters a phrase of doom "everything is going to be perfect". See, Sinead decided to have a welcome home party for Joseph, with banners and balloons but considering the state of the poor lad, (see above) he runs upstairs to hide and Chesney is annoyed at her for her bad judgement call. He apologizes to Sinead later for kicking off but she feels terrible. He admits the last couple of weeks were very rough and admits he's not sure he's ready for full time fatherhood. He might let the lad down.

Michelle goes to see Robert who is now the Silver Fox of the prison. Who knew he'd been dying his hair? He hasn't had the opportunity while inside the Big House and he's now completely white headed. Can't say it looks bad on him. Anyway, Robert is on a major pity party, feeling guilty that he left Michelle on her own but she tells him she loves him and misses him and they look forward to his release. Shouldn't be long now and she's doing ok in the meantime.

You may remember when Hope was sick and Tyrone was planning the Lapland Christmas where he turned into a spend-o-holic, yes? Seems having that bit of extra money was burning another big hole in his pocket. He's taken the donation they were given through the crowdfund and bought a second hand van to use for his metal scrap collecting. Fiz is not best pleased since she felt they should funnel it back into the fund (which is where the donor should have put it in the first place). She's also worried because he hasn't actually cashed the cheque, just bought the van on spec. What if the cheque doesn't go through, then what? Tyrone lies to Kevin about an inheritance from an uncle and the more people ask about his "uncle" the more elaborate the lies get. Fiz insists he sell the van.
