Friday 2 February

Written by Simon Crowther and directed by Tim Dowd

Carla's at a loose end and telling Roy a story about how she wouldn't give money to a stranger who asked to "borrow" £2.99 from her. He gives her pause for thought by pointing out that if Kate and Aidan don't prove to be a match she might well end up relying on the generosity of strangers.

The new lad, Josh, has started work at the garage. Sean comes past on his way to the job centre and Ty introduces them. Josh uses the opportunity to tell Sean about the boxing match whereas Sean, who declines to sign up, uses the opportunity to give Josh an admiring once-over.

Across the street, Aidan waylays the postman and puts some letters for Johnny in his pocket. He tells Kate it's his own credit card statement. They mention the fact they're off to the hospital later to be tested to find out if they're a match for Carla.

In the cafe Beth is trying to give Sinead some relationship advice. She tells her to stop worrying about what other people think. It's obvious she loves Daniel so she should accept his gift of a plastic Venus fly trap and go back to him.

At another table Steve and Tracy are trying to have breakfast but they're being hassled by Amy. Apparently the pipes are frozen at school so it's closed for a second day in a row. Amy has plans to meet her friends and go to the cinema. She tries to get £20 off them and says she'll get the bus back. She would call them to be picked up only she doesn't have a phone …. Steve gives her £10 and says she doesn't need a phone - he'll pick her up at 6pm, sharp.

Carla's bored with nothing to do so she's drinking coffee in the Bistro and chatting to Daniel. She asks what time he finishes work and then invites herself round to his flat later. He looks a bit surprised but not too unhappy with the suggestion.

Kate and Aidan are in the waiting room of the renal transplant unit and filling in forms. Kate wonders what they'll do if they're both a match, toss a coin? Aidan says straight away that he would do it, so that his little sister doesn't have to lose a kidney and his big sister won't die. They turn away from each other, both looking worried at the prospect.

Tracy goes into the corner shop with Beth and has a moan with Dev over the situation with school and the frozen pipes. He tells her that Gina has got the twins working for her making bobble hats for a craft fair.

With the upcoming boxing match some people are starting to get in training and Gemma sets off for a run with Shona and David. Shona seems to be particularly keen on the whole idea.

Across the street Peter watches Daniel and Carla come out of the Bistro together and head over towards Daniel's flat …

Sally has a problem. She has a flat tyre and can't get hold of Kevin. Tim's staying with his father so what is she to do? Gina, who is in the middle of one of her manic highs, says they'll do it. Sophie admits she does have the keys to the garage but there's no way she'll get involved in this daring operation. (With this amount of fuss, anyone would think they were proposing to fit an entire new engine).

Round at Daniel's he's tidying up the flat and chatting to Carla. They seem to be getting on very well and enjoying each other's company. She has a funny turn and asks to lie down on his sofa, claiming she's just tired after a late night chatting to Roy.

At the garage, Gina means business and she's even donned a set of overalls. "Give me strength!" sighs Sally as Rosie joins them, dressed in her bright boiler suit.

Across the street Amy's with one of her school friends, discussing boys. Someone's having a party and one particular boy is going to be there. It sounds as though they won't be going to the cinema after all …

Rana calls in to see her brother who gives her a set of keys for his flat. She's looking in a really bad way. He asks who she would choose if she could have either Kate or Zeedan. Rana can't answer the question.

Sinead, on the other hand, seems in a far more decisive mood as she takes herself into Dev's to buy a fly swatter.

Back at the garage Gina is struggling to get the wheel off when a woman turns up wanting to get an MOT for her car. No problem, declares Gina and books it in. Sally is horrified when she discovers and rushes after the woman to cancel it. Sally realises Gina hasn't been taking her medication.

Robert spots Zee carrying a bag of bottles. He follows him into the house and is worried to see he's carrying whiskey rather than balsamic vinegar. Isn't that against his religion? But Zee's determined to drown his sorrows and has no interest knowing he should be at the Rovers right now, finding out who he's up against in the boxing match.

We return to Daniel's where talk turns to Sinead. Carla, who seems to have perked up since her funny turn, tells Daniel that if she'd been in Sinead's shoes, she would have bitten his hand off when he made the peace offering with his plant. She follows this with a quick kiss and tells Daniel that if he hadn't been fussing round after her all afternoon he would have noticed she's been flirting with him. But Daniel, who is now well experienced in the ways of older woman following the brief fling with his boss, knows exactly what is required of him and they start to kiss in earnest.

Over at the Rovers everyone has gathered to find out who they'll be matched against in the boxing. Josh announces that Shona will be fighting Maria. As Gemma recounts some of Shona's past escapades, Maria starts to look very worried indeed.

Back at Daniel's, Carla asks him to lead the way to his bedroom …

Karen

Good evening. Another week, another update. After next Friday I will be away for a while - so we are still looking for additional people to prepare these updates - please get in touch.

This is episode 9370. The writer for this episode was Simon Crowther and the director was Tim Dowd. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

Sinead is showing her blue fly swatter to Beth and trying to explain the ironic nature of the gift for Daniel. Beth thinks chocolates might work better; Sinead assures her it is worth a thousand words! Sinead is making amends for yesterday apparently as she wants to give it another go. Beth tells her that if it does not work then she will take it off her hands and use it to give Kirk a good spanking, then she wishes Sinead good luck with her unconventional approach.

At his flat Daniel emerges from his bedroom and is rebuttoning his shirt. Carla also emerges and is also refastening her blouse buttons. At last she has a smile on her face. She assures him that it was strictly a one-off. It is a good way to pass the time of day. Daniel invites Carla for a drink later. After some banter over a post-match debrief she agrees.

Zeedan seems to have got to grips with downing lots of alcohol very quickly (personally I don't think he would - but I merely report events). Robert thinks he has had enough. Zeedan has had enough of being made to look a numpty. Robert tries to joke - but fails dismally! Robert had hoped that Rana's infatuation would blow over - but clearly it has not. He cannot stop Zeedan drinking.

Sally is now concerned about Gina who is clearly not taking her medication - Gina assures her sister and Rosie that she feels fantastic. Gina is still arguing she could have done the MoT. Sally points out that she and Rosie had changed the flat tyre - not Gina - who needs to get her meds. Gina says she is not sticking around to be bad mouther by a stuck-up little pixie like Sally. (Rosie is wincing). Gina slams out. Sally chases her but she has vanished by the time she reaches the Street.

Carla has come out of Daniel's flat and says she will see him later before leaning in for a kiss. As they do so Sinead appear by the pillar box behind Carla carrying her blue fly swat. Neither of them see her before she turns on her heel and retreats out of sight, distressed.

(Definition - Jordskott is a Swedish detective/crime drama originally broadcast on ITV Encore - the channel ITV normally uses to show tv reruns and original drama not meeting the quality requirements for broadcast on ITV1).

Ken is looking on his PVR box for Jordskott - Tracy denies all knowledge. Steve wanders in before he collects Amy - still no sign of Jordskott. Steve presses a couple of buttons and suddenly Jordskott appears on the screen. Tracy points out that Steve has his uses! Ken fails to agree.

Sinead is reporting what she saw with her own eyes to Beth whilst dumping the broken fly swatter. Beth calls Carla a dirty little tramp. Beth reckons Carla must have been hammered, after all she is old enough to be Daniel's mother. (Fact check - Carla is 20 years and 1 day older than Daniel - both had birthdays earlier this month). Neither Sinead or Beth can understand it. Sinead feels rejected all over again. Beth suggests Sinead has a bath and they go out for a drink later. Sinead is not sure.

Carla with a huge smile on her face pokes her head around the cafe door. Roy notes some colour back in her cheeks. She admits to an invigorating afternoon. Carla then admits to being shattered and is going to have a snooze before she goes out for a soft drink. Roy is glad to see her in high spirits and Carla admits she feels like a 17 year old girl again ... with ten minutes to live.

At an unknown location the entire Weatherfield population of 14/15 year olds are partying! They are only staring at their own mobile phones and not talking. Amy and her friend, Jessica, are messaging Ben and Matthew on the other side of the room - apparently they are all going into the kitchen. It is six - Amy knows Steve will be looking for them at the cinema. The two boys want the two girls to go upstairs. Kitchen first is the response.

Roy catches Aidan and Kate as they return from their appointments. A drunk Zeedan falls out of his house with Robert following behind. Rana sees them and rushes over. Zeedan tells her to keep away from him. Sophie stares at the mess. Gina catches the bus away from the Street. Rosie and Sally cannot find her.

Steve has returned to number one to report Amy missing. He waited half an hour before returning. Tracy will have to phone round the families to see who knows anything. Tracy points out that it is Steve's fault for not replacing her phone - Steve says that the lack of phone is not the problem. Tracy has not kept the arrangement made. Ken urges Tracy to start making calls. Steve has looked at his phone but there is nothing on it.

After the break Kate goes to the Bistro to start work and finds Sophie waiting for her. Sophie invites Kate for a drink but is once again knocked back. Michelle tells Kate that Zeedan has been on the whisky all afternoon and Robert is keeping an eye on him.

Amy is on her own, Jessica has left and Amy has not gone because she forgot her bus pass. The boys argue and Amy notes it is 7:30pm. Matthew, the one she is interested in, wants to know why she is not answering his texts. She has no phone. He kisses her and offers her either a walk home or upstairs. Tracy is still making phone calls with no luck so far. Then Ken remembers a girl called Jessica. Tracy and Steve head out planning to make further calls on the move.

In the Rovers Ty wants to know why Sophie is unhappy. Daniel and Carla come into the Rovers and Peter immediately spots them together. Peter asks Carla if they have been together all day. Peter says he curious / amused. Carla says no comment. Peter keeps pushing the point wanting to know what Carla has been doing all afternoon. She responds she read the Golden Bough (a wide ranging study of mythology and religion). Peter admits defeat and will bring the drinks over.

Tracy and Steve arrive at the party venue. Amy has told Matthew Begley that she cannot go upstairs and likes being where she is. Her parents catch them cuddling in the kitchen and they leap apart. All the other kids gather in a semi-circle as the parents start asking Amy questions! Amy is ordered into the car. Matthew lifts his head and says "Hello Mr Barlow" to Steve, who wanders out.

Ty and Sophie are discussing Daniel and Carla having a drink together. Ty says a tenner that they end up back at Carla's. Ty changes it to back at Daniel's after Sophie points out that Carla is staying at Roy's. Sophie reckons it is all innocent. Aidan is bringing Carla up to date with his appointment earlier. Aidan hopes one of them will be a match. Meanwhile Peter is finding out from Daniel about him hanging out with Carla. And did she read a bedtime story asks Peter. Daniel is trying not to give anything away. Aidan is reassuring Carla that her illness is simply bad luck and does not reflect her life choices. He is sure Carla will be OK. She returns and sits down very close to Daniel. Kate comes in and smiles at Sophie - so perhaps they will share that drink.

Zeedan is unsteadily telling Rana that she lied to him - she knows that. Rana says she still loves him and that she did not plan any of this. Zeedan says he is going to bed but he wants Rana out of his house. She goes, Zeedan struggles to the kitchen, grabs the whisky bottle and staggers across to the stairs bottle in hand.

Amy is pointing out to her parents that if she had a phone she could have called them. Tracy starts at Steve who says Amy broke their agreement to meet at the cinema. Amy calls him a hypocrite as Steve had his phone all along. Tracy knows that Amy had no intention of meeting Steve and did not even go to the cinema as the party was on the other side of town. Steve points out that Jessica no doubt had her phone which Amy could have used. She does not know the numbers off by heart. (I well remember reciting my home and mobile numbers to my daughters until they knew them). Ken fingers that the technology is to blame for this, otherwise she would know her home number. Tracy disputes that anyone memorises phone numbers any longer. Ken rails at the technology and so Tracy reminds him that he has every episode of Jordskott at the touch of a button! Amy goes to bed. Tracy assures her departing daughter that Steve will buy her a new mobile phone with credit. Tracy says Amy only did it to punish Steve so it was his fault! She reminds Steve of the original deal. Steve is dumbstruck.

Daniel is telling some story about a lecturer called Mike to Carla. Apparently all the students corpsed over some joke. Meanwhile Sophie and Kate are getting closer. Apparently Kate agrees it is a date. Meanwhile Carla admits to 2 GCSEs - Food Tech and German! Daniel asks if she can make a good wiener schnitzel, which is Austrian! Beth wanders in to find them together. Beth realises that Sinead was telling the truth and says as much. Then Beth tells Daniel that Sinead bought him a fly swatter. Sinead wanted to give it another go. Daniel moves awkwardly. Daniel denies there is anything like that going on with Carla - it is not like that (Carla's face is a picture at this point). Carla agrees that it is just a friendly drink. Beth points out they were seen necking on Daniel's doorstep earlier. Ty can hear all of this and realises his bet was right! As can Peter! Beth observes it is a good thing that Sinead has not come to the pub to have her nose rubbed in it again! Beth has a go for the speed at which Daniel has moved on - yesterday he wanted Sinead and today he is going out with everyone's old boss. Daniel denies any going out. Peter asks if anyone actually read a book. Daniel points out he asked Sinead yesterday and Beth tells him Sinead was playing hard to get. Can Daniel "read between the lines"? Beth tells Daniel and Carla that they deserve each other. Beth leaves. From the bar Peter observes that they make a lovely couple. And the closing shot of Carla's face could mean trouble yet for R'Toyota.

Roll credits.

I have to say that if Carla was as ill as portrayed I struggle to believe she would want to fall into bed with anyone - and an ex's brother does rather stretch credibilities. Will it be Ken next?

Kate - are you sure that Rana does not want you?

And I hope someone will help Gina reach a more stable life.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about both Emily Bishop / Eileen Derbyshire and Norris Cole / Malcolm Hebden?

Monday 5 February

Part 1 Written by David Isaac Directed by Tim Dowd
Part 2 Written by Perrie Balthazar Directed by Tim Dowd

Rana's very worried about Zeedan the morning after his drunken rampage and decides she needs to go see if he's ok, even against the better judgement of her brother Imran. Inside, Zeedan is nowhere to be seen but they don't take the chance to go upstairs yet and while they wait for Zeedan to stagger his hangover down the stairs, Imran tells his sister she did the right thing by telling her husband the truth. Zeedan is feeling the pain and is in a mood but he won't accept painkillers from his wife. She gets a text, apparently her parents are coming over. Now. And she looks scared!

Rana begs Zeedan not to say anything to her parents about she and Kate. She professes her undying love, that never changed, but Zeedan has a difficult time believing that. As you would. He reluctantly promises not to say anything. Somehow I think his temper is going to override reason.

The parents have landed on the doorstep this morning because work had told them Rana called in sick and she wasn't answering her phone so Mrs. Habeeb made comfort food and brought it over. Zeedan brings a bottle of whiskey to the table instead of the teapot. You see, things have changed. He then insists that Rana tell her parents what's happened. Rana gasps that she had an affair and Zeedan adds "with a woman". Shocked looks around! Her parents are incredible, lashing out at Rana and calling her selfish and willful. Zeedan is bitter but at least Imran sticks up for his sister, accusing them of putting an impossibly high expectation on their daughter all her life.

The family dynamics are still ongoing over at the Nazirs. Zeedan plans to drag Rana's name through the mud with legal papers and everything and then he throws them all out of his house. They all leave except Rana's father, Hasaan who wants a few serious words with Zeedan.

Zeedan has called Leanne to come and lend a shoulder. We forget they were good friends. Leanne sympathizes. Zeedan doesn't seem as positive about it all being over as he was. Turns out Rana's father offered to finance the new cafe he wants to open if he stays married for a year so there's no scandal. Zeedan is actually considering the offer. Yasmeen and Alya come in, having spent the night at an Auntie's. Leanne makes herself scarce.

Imran and Rana are in the cafe chatting quietly. Alya texts Rana to come over but Imran doesn't think she should as the family will all still be angry with her. Rana decides to go anyway. When she gets there, it's clear Alya and Yasmeen don't know what happened yet and when Zeedan tells Rana about her father's offer, she's furious at her parents' interference. He wants to accept the offer. She accuses him of only wanting to do it to save face. Protecting her has nothing to do with it. He lowers the guilt trip on her, if you have ever cared about me, you'll do this! Imran backs up their parents' offer and suggests that it's not such a bad idea, one year. Work hard at the business, like a partner, gives Zeedan a successful business and her a better divorce settlement. Is one year worth it over some girl she's not even with anymore?

Rana goes to tell Zeedan she'll do it for a year. She owes him that much. He agrees. They will sleep apart, work on the business and that's what this is. A business deal though everyone else will think it's a marriage. They shake on it.

David has taken fitness on as a new thing and Maria sees him coming back from a morning run. As she teases him, he gets a leg cramp and asks her to rub it. Shona's none too pleased to see another woman's hands on her fella's flesh, though. David is amused. Later in the cafe, Shona winds up Maria by telling her that she's been training for the fight. Later in the pub, David winds up Maria by insinuating that she, like most women, does actually fancy David. He thinks it's quite funny that two women are literally going to be fighting over him. David insists he told Shona that he and Maria were just mates. Maria recalls that Shona grew up on a rough estate and thinks maybe some private lessons with Josh might be in order.

Tyrone is getting some boxing instruction from Josh but he's not a fighter, is our Tyrone. David comes along and decides he wants a go and he does a bit better. Later that evening David asks Josh if he'd be willing to provide some private training. David doesn't want to look foolish at the match. It's agreed.

Peter's perturbed because someone's had their hands on his flesh, his melon to be precise. He tears a strip off Leanne who he's caught tucking into it. Leanne knows exactly why he's in a mood, started when he found out Carla had sex with Daniel. He's ranting about Carla sleeping with his brother so Leanne calls him a hypocrite, considering he's currently sleeping with her sister. It comes down to having to accept it but not liking it one little bit. At the top of his voice.

In the Bistro, Robert advises Kate to stay clear of the Nazirs for the time being as it will only stir things up. Carla arrives to jokes about Mrs. Robinson. She protests that it was a one-off. Michelle is highly amused. She can't even blame the booze this time.

Down at the Rovers, Daniel has arrived to face the lion in it's den, Peter. Peter pretends he's not bothered by the whole thing but then implies that Carla only slept with Daniel to get back at Peter. Like water off a duck's back, Daniel bluntly tells Peter to get over himself. When Daniel and Carla pass in the cafe, it's a little awkward but she brushes it off and says she'll speak to him later. Maria then teases her but Carla, now that she knows Sinead wanted Daniel back, only wants to put things right with Sinead. Roy disapproves of Carla expending all that extra energy on whatever it was they were doing when she should be preserving any energy she can muster.

Peter sees Carla on the cobbles and makes a petty remark about Daniel being a great deal younger. She swiftly comes back citing it being about the same difference in age as was between he and Tina. Point to Carla. Peter accuses her of having a midlife crisis, using people. Carla reminds him that she knows him just as well as he portends to know her so he needs to search deeply and figure out why he's in a state.

Johnny arrives in the cafe to see Carla who is there avoiding Peter's morality lectures. Whatever it was Johnny said to her must have worked because we next see her in Daniel's flat with Adam when Daniel arrives home with cider under each arm. Adam makes himself scarce after taking the mick. Carla came to apologize for winding up Peter. Daniel reckons in for a penny, in for a pound, leans over and starts kissing her. She doesn't object. Later, they're wrapped up on the sofa, basking. Daniel thinks there's no reason they shouldn't wind up their families a bit and tells her they should go out.

And out they go, to the Bistro where Johnny, Jenny and Aidan are dining and Tracy is loitering at the bar. She's bemused when Carla and Daniel come in, laughing, arm in arm. Jenny asks Johnny what he thinks but he's of the opinion that if it makes her happy, why not? Carla decides to have wine much to the disapproval of Kate and Aidan. They end up backing down when Carla tells them she'd rather take her chances than one of their kidneys if they are going to try to run her life. But after only one glass of wine, Carla is feeling the booze and when she tries to demonstrate a yoga position, she nearly collapses. Daniel helps her out the door. Johnny and Jenny think she's drunk but Aidan and Kate know the truth.

Gemma has made plans to double date with Henry and his mate. Gemma thinks Chesney ought to go out for lunch too but he's now got to work her shift. That is, unless Dev can track Cathy down to take over. It's all a bit confusing. Sally and Rosie come into the cafe with Rosie asking after Tim, acting as if they've split up but Sally assures her they haven't. Dev approaches asking after Gina who he assumes stayed at Sally's last night but she didn't and Sally thought she was at Dev's. So where is Gina?

It's mid day and Gina is still unreachable. Sally feels very badly since she could see Gina was acting up the day before. Dev is confident things will be ok and Rosie teeters over saying she's found out that Gina was arrested. It's good news because they know she's all right at least. They all leave together to fetch her. She'd been shoplifting fish fingers or something similar apparently. Though the police kept her overnight, they soon realized that Gina was not well and we hear her ranting already as she's being brought out. Gina comes running out and launches herself into Dev's arms, crying hysterically.

Sally has Gina settled down on Dev's sofa where she's fallen asleep. Dev says he thinks she stopped taking her medication. Sally thinks Gina should come back to hers but Dev wants to take care of her and is willing to try.

Anyway, Chesney and Brian lunch in the Bistro. Brian digs himself a hole while trying to describe Sinead as a bicycle but Chesney knows he doesn't mean it in the wrong way. He tells Brian he's not that interested in dating again. Henry and Gemma are at the bar, waiting for Henry's made Hugo and his girlfriend. Gemma downs a whiskey chaser for Dutch courage Henry assures her everyone will like her. Hugo and his date, Carly, arrive. Carla is not what you might expect. Even Gemma thinks Carly's rough! She's very similar to Gemma in many ways so is this bet to see which one of the men can stay with a "diamond in the rough" type of woman the longest?

Gemma doesn't like the soup, it's cold! She wants Robert to heat it up for her which goes against every one of his chef genes and makes Hugo smirk behind his hand. Chesney and Brian settle up their bill at the next table after a bit of arguing over who should pay. Behind them, Hugo and Henry have gone to the bar, with Hugo congratulating Henry on dating the worst of the two women. Chesney realizes that Henry is not being genuine with Gemma and stays behind after Brian leaves.

Chesney must have had a couple more drinks while keeping an eye on they odd couples. We listen in as Hugo is actually quite rude while disguising it as all in a bit of fun but Gemma is starting to notice and tells him like it is. Henry grabs a smirking Hugo and drags him to the bar where Hugo mentions that he'll win the 5K bet. Chesney overhears that of course, and he overhears Hugo ask Henry if he can fake it much longer. That's all Chesney needs to hear and he goes to Gemma and tells her. She doesn't want to believe him but she knows Chesney wouldn't lie to her. Right. Confrontation Street it is. She necks a tequila shot and heads back to the table. She seems to overhear Hugo accusing Henry of falling for Gemma but she throws three plates of food over him anyway and storms out with Henry hot on her heels, shouting that he really, really likes her. She's having none of it.

Gemma runs off into the night, determined to find a real man. Chesney tries to get hold of her later but she's incommunicado by phone. In actually fact, she's drinking down in the ginnel and deleted the photos of she and Henry off her phone, broken hearted.

Wednesday 7 February

Daniel is in his dressing gown when Ken drops in with a book to lend him. Daniel tries to get rid of Ken in a hurry, but before he gets to the door, Carla comes out of the bathroom, also in a dressing gown. There's an awkward, silent pause, much to Adam's amusement, until Carla retreats back into the bathroom.

Alya is staring miserably at a breakfast that Yasmeen has cooked her, when Zeedan and Rana come downstairs. Alya gets up to go, and then asks what the surprise was that they were talking about yesterday. Zeedan thinks quickly and tells her that Rana's parents are going to invest in his new business, so he's put an offer in on some premises. There are hugs all round, but Rana looks less than delighted.

Chesney and Cathy are in the kebab shop, talking about Gemma's situation with Henry, and how she went out on the razz last night. Dev comes in and wants to know where Gemma is, and Chesney mutters that she's on her way, the bus is late. Dev points out that Gemma only lives at Rita's, and Chesney tells him she stayed over with a mate in town. Just then Gemma comes through the door, still wearing the clothes she wore last night, but looking rather disheveled. Dev takes in the situation and then leaves. Chesney then tells her to go home, get a shower and some sleep, and come back later. She hugs him and says he's the best boss ever.

Robert tells Michelle that today would have been his dad's birthday, he wishes they'd had longer together but now he realises how lucky he is to have survived. Michelle kisses him and then goes off to the shops.

In the cafe, Aidan asks Kate if she's heard from the hospital, but she hasn't. Carla comes in then and tries to sneak past Roy, but he sees her. She tells him she's going to get a bath and get changed then she's off to lunch with her toyboy. Aidan and Kate have heard this, and Kate thinks she'll just make herself worse, and wonders if she'll listen to their dad. Aidan tells her that Carla doesn't want him to know and they must respect her wishes.

Zeedan goes to the Bistro and tells Robert that he and Rana are going to stay together, he'll come back to work on the condition that Kate has to go. Robert tells him that's difficult, she's Michelle's cousin. Zeedan then says he'll make it easy for him, and he quits, and walks out of the door.

Gary sees Steph looking sad in the cafe and sits down with her. She tells him she's leaving later but there are farewell drinks in the Bistro first. Just then Pat comes in and sees Steph talking to Gary. He goes over to try to talk to her, but Steph gets up and says she's leaving. Gary says he'll go with her but Pat stops him and says there's something he wants Gary to do at the mill. Gary points out that it's his day off. "Not any more, sorry," says Pat, so Steph just turns and leaves Gary standing there.

Aidan and Alya are talking business and she remarks that he's the boss. He tells her she's the manager and hopefully they'll have some orders when the factory reopens. Just then Aidan's phone rings and he takes a short call just as Kate comes through the door. When he's off the phone she tells him the hospital rang and she's a match, and then he tells her that so is he!

Michelle arrives back at the Bistro where Robert has planned a romantic, candle lit lunch. He tells her they're celebrating life, and he wants to thank her for being the best thing that's ever happened to him. Then he tells her that he's going to change the sign outside, and they can decide together what it's new name is going to be.

Gemma is in the pub eating a hotpot and moaning about men in general.

Gina is sitting with Dev, thanking him for going to the doctor with her and sorting out her medication. She tells him she'd understand if he wanted them to part company, but he says he doesn't want to. It's been a learning curve, but she'll keep him on his toes.

Aidan and Kate are also in the pub, where he's telling her that he'll be the kidney donor, but he looks worried.

Zeedan and Rana have a meeting with her parents in the cafe. Rana's father says that in the long run this will benefit everyone, but Rana is sulky and says she can't believe she wasn't even consulted. Her dad tells her she forfeited any rights when she did what she did, and produces a contract which he puts in front of Zee. It's enough to cover the deposit and the cost of renovation. In return, Zeedan and Rana have to agree to stay together for at least a year. If the marriage dissolves before then, the money has to be paid back in full, immediately. Zeedan then tells them that he needs more money because he's had to quit his job at the Bistro because Kate works there. He now will have no income until the new place is up and running. He needs another £10k. Rana's father agrees and says they'll get the sum amended and get back to him. Zeedan then leaves, and Rana's parents get up to go. Rana asks if it's always going to be like this, with them refusing to even look at her. Her mother says that she brought it on herself.

In the Bistro, Steph is having farewell drinks with Leanne, Alya, Robert and Michelle. Alya lets it slip that Rana's parents are helping Zeedan buy his own business. Leanne says she knew about it but didn't think he would take them up on the offer, and looks puzzled. Gary comes in then and asks for a word with Steph. He takes her to one side and asks what the encounter with Pat in the cafe was all about. Steph tells him it's complicated. Gary tells her that Pat set Anna up, and he's pretty sure he's done worse, so anything she can tell him would be good. Steph says they can't talk there, (why not?) and arrange to meet in the pub at 3.30.

Henry arrives at the kebab shop asking for Gemma. Chesney tells him she's not, and to get lost. Henry says that it's not what they think, yes, it started as a bet, but for him became more than that. Chesney tells him he humiliated one of the nicest people he knows, and bundles him out of the shop, telling him to stay away from Gemma.

Leanne sees Zeedan in the street and asks if it's true that he's taking Rana's parents up on their offer. He says he deserves something out of all of it. Leanne asks if Rana is happy about it, but Zeedan doesn't answer. Leanne accuses him of guilt-tripping Rana into it and says that's not the Zee she knows. Zeedan tells her that he's changed. As Zeedan walks off down the street, Leanne goes over and knocks on Yasmeen's front door. Once inside, she tells Yasmeen all about Rana's affair and what the offer of money is all about. Yasmeen is shocked and stunned. "How could she do this to him?" she says. Then she asks who Rana was seeing, and is even more shocked to hear that it was Kate.

Steph is lighting a candle at Luke's shrine when Pat comes along. He corners her and tells her that being rude to him was plain disrespectful. She seems frightened (as well she might) and tries to walk away, but he bars the way. "I think we need to talk, don't you?" he says.

Daniel and Carla are in the pub, and being watched by many. Ken is at the bar and remarks to Peter that he was a little shocked, not just by the age gap but it's a bit close to home. Peter says she just making a show of herself. (It's funny how there's a huge age gap between Johnny and Jenny but because it's the man who is older, no one thinks twice about it...but the other way round, apparently it's shocking!) Johnny hears this and then has a go at Peter, telling him it's just that his pride is hurt and he should grow up! Carla gets up to go to the bar but sways slightly. She asks Peter for another glass of red wine but he refuses to serve her, saying she's had enough. She points out she's only had one glass, but Toyah backs him up. Carla then collapses on the floor and Roy shouts at them to call an ambulance, telling them that she's not drunk, she's seriously ill.

As Roy and Johnny rush to Carla's aid, Aidan fills in his dad about Carla's kidney failure. Daniel and Peter are equally surprised by the revelation.

Gary excitedly tells Nicola that they have a new ally in Steph. Phelan throws off Steph's suspicions by asking her to pass on a message to Andy when she gets back to Portugal.

An ambulance arrives and Carla is rushed to hospital. Daniel stays behind as the Connors rally round.

Rana returns home to an interrogation from Yasmeen. She vows to put a stop to Zeedan's grubby deal with the Habeebs.

Cathy invites Chesney tell Gemma how he stood up for her but he gets embarrassed and leaves instead.

Although disapproving of Rana's affair, Yasmeen urges her not to let herself be used as a bargaining chip. Rana feels obliged to help Zeedan and insists that the deal will go ahead.

Adam visits Billy while he's having a session with his physiotherapist and does some chores for him.

The Connors are told that Carla has an infection and they need to move fast to save her.

Peter goads Daniel, saying that he didn't notice Carla's condition as he only has one thing on his mind. Tracy is shaken to hear about Carla, remembering her own kidney failure.

Johnny doesn't want Aidan putting himself at risk and insists that he'll be Carla's donor instead. He backs down when Jenny and Aidan protest on account of his MS.

Gary is angry at being stood up by Steph. She leaves without giving him any new leads against Phelan.

Zeedan finds a flat to rent. Yasmeen gets at him for cashing in on Rana's affair. He tells her it's none of her business.

Cathy fills Gemma in on Chesney's scuffle with Henry.

Yasmeen demands that Zeedan treat Rana with respect and forces him to stay at No.6 so she can keep an eye on them by threatening to spill the beans otherwise.

Phelan drops Nicola off and nearly catches a glimpse of Seb.

Aidan tells Carla that she can have one of his kidneys.

Friday 9 February

Written by Joe Turner and directed by Nickie Lister

It's Eva's 30th birthday and Leanne can't understand why she seems down in the dumps, especially when she's serving Buck's Fizz for breakfast to celebrate. She's given Eva a new dress as well. Perhaps she can wear it tonight? Toyah and Eva exchange worried glances. Then Peter produces a present but it's for Toyah, not Eva. He's bought a baby-sized football shirt with Barlow on the back. Toyah pulls herself together and tells him it's gorgeous.

Round at the Metcalfs' things are not going well. Tim's popped back to pack some more clothes. While Phelan's still around he's going to stay at his dad's with Faye, whether Sally likes it or not. Sally just doesn't get it, even when Tim reminds her that Pat framed Anna and he almost certainly murdered both Michael and Luke.

Adam's sitting in his office, examining a bottle of painkillers when Summer comes to see him. She thanks him for helping Billy but tells him that she's going to look after him from now on. She doesn't want to give her grandmother any ammunition and is determined to prove Billy and she can cope on their own. Adam says OK but then asks if Summer's going to Amy's birthday party later. Will Billy be OK to be left on his own? Summer hesitates but says it will be fine. After Summer leaves, Adam gets out the painkillers again and stares at them thoughtfully.

Aidan's about to spend the day at the hospital having tests. He's clearly worried while Johnny's fretting and wishing he could do more. Aidan says the best thing he can do to help is to stop fussing and go and visit Carla.

Gary gets a call from Nicola asking him to go round but then Faye asks him for a lift into town. He has no choice but to take her with him. Meanwhile Tim has told Steve he wants to sell him his share of the garage. He's determined to put as much distance between Faye and Phelan as he can.

In the hospital Carla is lying in bed with Roy holding her hand on one side and Johnny on the other. Johnny says he and Jenny will delay going to Spain until she's better. Carla doesn't want him to change his plans for her but Roy and Johnny point out it's going to take some time for her to recover and besides, someone needs to get the factory up and running again. A doctor comes in and tells Carla her kidney function has dropped further. If Aidan isn't a match she'll need to start dialysis straight away.

Over at Nicola's flat Seb is looking out of the window. Nicola pulls him away but not before he spots Faye sitting in the car outside. Nicola asks Gary if he can get Seb's prescription for his HIV meds as she has to stay in all day and do some work. Then Faye rings Gary to ask how long he'll be as she's starving hungry. He tells her he'll be right down but he'll need to stop off and pick up a prescription for Izzy.

Back in the Rovers Eva finds Toyah crying in the back room. Toyah is upset about their plans and feels as though she's just trying to replace one baby with another. But Eva comforts her and says it will all turn out fine and says she's also doing something to help her. Eva suggest the two of them should spend the day together remembering the baby Toyah has lost.

In the cafe, Zeedan confronts Leanne for talking to his grandmother behind his back. He tells her to stay out of his way and mind her own business.

Gary and Faye are also in there. While Gary goes off to the loo, Faye tucks in to her meal.

Daniel is next to come in. He asks Roy what sort of book he should take for Carla, who are her favourite authors? Roy suggests Daniel doesn't know Carla too well – to the best of his knowledge he's never seen her read a book. Daniel decides to make it his mission to introduce her to the literary greats. On his way out, Daniel picks up something that's fallen on the floor by Faye's table and hands it to her. It's a box of medication with Seb's name on the front …

Pat calls in at Streetcars with a sticky bun for Eileen but Steve is on the switchboard as Eileen's gone to the dentist so Pat settles down to wait. The phone rings and, as bad luck would have it, it's Faye calling for a cab to take her to Nicola's flat. Pat listens as Steve repeats back the address. Pat suddenly remembers he has to be somewhere. He leaves the bun with Steve, and gives a maniacal laugh as he threatens to kill Steve if he eats it himself.

In the Rovers Tim breaks the news to Sally he's intending to sell his share in Streetcars to Steve. Sally still doesn't understand his need to put Faye first.

Zee comes in and Leanne tries to apologise but he's having none of it and won't even allow her to serve him.

Toyah and Eva come back from their outing. They claim to have been shopping and Eva has to do some quick thinking when Leanne asks why they're not carrying any bags.

Then Adam comes in carrying a big bouquet of birthday flowers and tells Eva he's taking her out to lunch to her favourite sushi restaurant. Eva's face falls – sushi's best avoided when you're pregnant. She claims she has nothing to wear. Leanne suggests the dress she gave her this morning and packs her off upstairs to get ready. Then she tells Toyah and Adam she's planned a little surprise party for Eva later. Well, more like a monster booze-up, she corrects herself. Toyah looks worried – something else Eva needs to avoid in her current state.

Aidan's in the waiting room between tests when Jenny arrives to keep him company. It's the last thing he feels like, particularly when she tells him how grateful she is as it's sparing Johnny the need to volunteer. Aidan is clearly wishing he wasn't going through with it and he seems very worried indeed.

Back on the street, Amy is waiting for the bus with Asha and Summer and boasting about her birthday dinner in the Bistro later. She tells the girls they can having anything they want, including lobster. Her wind is taken out of her sails somewhat when Steve comes along and downgrades the meal to burgers and mocktails. Amy reminds her father she's fourteen but Steve continues to speak to her as though she's four. Amy then produces a sparkly top that she's lending to Summer to wear to the meal.

In the Rovers Eva's getting ready but Toyah's struggling to zip up her new dress. Leanne goes upstairs to find something else for her to wear and Toyah breaks the news to Eva about the surprise "monster booze-up" party. Eva is in a panic and tells Toyah she'll have to get her out of it somehow.

Summer arrives home to find Billy struggling in the kitchen. He obviously can't manage to be left on his own so she tells him to sit down and she'll take over. He feels guilty but Summer says that asking him to look after her was the best decision her dad ever made. Summer tucks Amy's top back inside her bag as it looks as though she won't be going to her party after all.

Across town, Faye arrives at Nicola's block of flats and rings the outside bell. Seb tries to answer it but Nicola stops him. Faye keeps ringing the bell. Nicola looks out of the window and spots Pat's van but it's too late as Seb has released the door. Faye goes in and Pat follows her. He confronts her in the hallway. He asks what she's doing there. When Faye won't tell him Pat says they'll go upstairs and ask Nicola what's going on.

Karen

Good evening. Another week, another update. I am away for the next three weeks visiting Sri Lanka and Martin will be reporting in my place. However I am sure he would welcome offers of assistance.

This is episode 9376. The writer for this episode was Joe Turner and the director was Nickie Lester. Copyright remains the property of ITV to whom many thanks.

We open at Nicola's flat where she finds that Faye and Pat are standing on her doorstep and Seb is told to go and hide in the bedroom whilst she lets them in after chastising Seb for letting Pat into the building. Faye of course did not know it was Nicola's flat and has no explanation lined up. After about 30 minutes she tells them both that she cannot talk to anyone about Anna plus she is being bullied at school and thought that Nicola was so good with troubled teenagers that she might be willing to listen. As he comes into the flat Pat looks at all of the doors in the hope of seeing Seb (he is pretty sure someone is there as a curtain twitched on a previous visit). Nic appears to be in pain and rushes to the bathroom. Pat does not believe a word of Faye's lies. When Nicola emerges it appears she is bleeding and insists Pat takes her to the hospital now. As they leave Faye is told by Nicola (with a wink) to ring Gary to tell him all that has happened and then she tells Pat to leave the green parka/anorak on the rack and she will wear a blue coat. Seb emerges and hugs Faye.

In the Rovers Toyah and Leanne are explaining Eva's illness to Adam but he persuades them to let him go in the back to see her. Peter is "off out for a bit". In days of old this meant that Peter was off to see his bit of stuff on the side. Toyah oddly does not ask where he might be going! In the back Eva might have food poisoning or perhaps a migraine! Adam knows she is lying and wants to know why. Eva is not feeling great, she has put on some weight and is not happy about being 30. Adam suggests she struggles through the party and when she is "better" they can do something special. She agrees.

Aidan is now being interviewed by a doctor more concerned about his mental state than his physical state. {I assume the team have researched the story well and that this is normal when a transplant is being considered - well done to all concerned}. Does Aidan understand the risks and the doctor needs to be sure that Aidan is not being pressured to do this. The doctor asks him to think about the process going wrong and that if he changes his mind he need only tell the doctor and they will use a medical excuse so Carla and others do not know he changed his mind. The doctor says some donors think it all through and come to a conclusion they are not ready or not capable. Aidan looks troubled but does not stop the process.

Kev goes to see Sal. She apologises for the fuss at the garage a few days ago. She then admits Tim has moved out. She thinks Faye is with Tim and living at Tim's father's. Sal does not know how they will get through this rough patch. Kev moves to give her a re-assuring hug.

Summer is at the flat getting numerous messages from the party for Amy at the Bistro. She would rather be with Billy - he assures her he is fine. She refuses to go to the party. Billy however is not fine but is in pain.

At the hospital a quick scan shows the Rubinstein baby is alive and well; Pat sits in. And Gary arrives as well. Pat is quite struck by the heartbeat and the sonar picture. After some discussion it is revealed the baby is a boy. All's well and there are smiles all round. Pat suggests that Nicola move in with him and Eileen so she has help to hand - but Gary is not keen.

Eva joins the birthday party and Toyah goes to great lengths to swap the fizzy drink for ginger ale so she appears to be drinking. And Liz has news for Toyah (who almost ignores her) - the medical centre have asked her to go back there and so she will only work evening shifts in future. Liz is happy to be in demand (Come back Moira). Billy staggers in on crutches and is looking for Adam. Anyway Leanne ribs Eva about coming to terms with being the big three oh! Toyah keeps swapping drinks. Billy wants more of Adam's strong drugs. Eva also tells Leanne that she is going away for some sun to save on fake tan (although this was badly edited and almost got missed). Adam turns Billy down - but the latter says it helps him being a better father to Summer. Adam says it is not right. Adam tells Billy to find a way of dealing with this on his own.

After the break we are back at the hospital where Carla (with completely unnecessary plastic tubes fitted to her nose - why does Corrie do this?) has Peter sitting on her bed and Daniel sitting on the visitor's chair. And they had come separately as neither knew the other was visiting (what did I say earlier about Toyah not asking where Peter was going?). Both tell Carla she should have told them how ill she was. She tells them that Aidan is likely to be a kidney donor. Daniel volunteers to be tested. Carla pointedly tells Daniel that she did not tell him as she did not wanted to be treated as an unwell person - she wanted some fun. And she did not tell Peter as it was none of his damn business. And she points out that Daniel has bought her grapes and books. Peter knows she does not like grapes - she does not like the way the skin pops when you bite into them. Daniel realises how little he knows about her. She assures Daniel she loves grapes now as her tastes have changed! Johnny arrives and Daniel says he will go. Carla assures Daniel he does not need to do anything; Daniel says he will pop in and see her. Peter makes it clear that Carla has given Daniel a "get-out-of-jail" card - but who asked Peter asks Daniel who departs after kissing Carla gently on her forehead. Peter has a huge smile playing on his face. She tells him to go as well. He says he will be thinking about her.

Kev is telling Sally that she and Tim are in a good place and they need to start talking about TIm's wish to move away from all they have built on the Street. To Tim Faye comes first Kev explains. He and Sal would both do the same for their children. She and Tim have something worth fighting for. Sally's decision is the big one.

Pat cannot stop looking at the sonar picture of his grandson. Nicola has been thinking and decides to accepts Pat offer of moving in. When Pat goes to get a copy of the photo Nicola explains that if she is in Pat's house and confidence then it will be easier to look at his computer and phone and see what he is doing or has done. She tells Gary she will be safe and he needs to go and sort out Seb and Faye.

At Eva's party she is pretending to be a little tipsy. Apparently there is a hot new doctor joining the practice and Liz will have to break him in. Peter comes in and goes over to Daniel who is playing the one armed bandit. Daniel assures Peter that he and Carla are just good friends and like him more than she does Peter. Peter says he still cares for Carla and does not want her to get hurt (oh come on Teflon Carla is not going to get hurt). Peter says Carla is upset, scared and confused and he does not think she knows what she is doing. Daniel thinks she does! Toyah is still delivering "drinks" to Eva. We also get the near obligatory Dirk #not Kirk shot.

Gary is telling Faye that she cannot tell anyone what is going on. Gary says that Nicola thinks Pat will eventually make a mistake and that will lead to Anna being freed. But it is dangerous - so Faye needs to be careful. Michael and Luke are dead already Gary points out and Seb will be added to the list. She has to keep her trap shut until it is sorted.

Billy uses the stair lift to get back into the flat - but he is now in even more pain. He tells Summer he may have done a bit too much - and he is going to get an early night.

Carla is almost asleep. Jenny joins Johnny and Carla stirs. Aidan then appears around the door. Jenny reveals that Aidan has been poked and prodded all day. He has passed all tests with flying colours. Now just a question of time. Carla starts crying - Johnny points out that it is good news. Aidan says she would do the same for him - she makes a joke of it - a kidney yes, a liver no! Jenny says Aidan should be proud of himself as he is saving a life. Carla promises to look after the kidney. No late nights, no boozing sessions, no pizza binges. She is kidding - she will drive the kidney like a Formula 1 race car. They all laugh. Aidan still looks very worried about it all.

Leanne, Eva and Toyah are discussing the party in the back room of the Rovers. A tipsy Eva has had the bestest birthday ever. Leanne goes to bed, the other two are going to have a black coffee. A sober Eva pronounces the evening as an absolute nightmare. She is absolutely knackered. She is going to get Adam to back off until after the baby is born. Toyah thinks he will wait (not a chance - his known count since returning is either five or six). Eva is not showing her happy face.

Eileen is happy that Nicola is moving in she tells Pat back at their house. And they both like looking at the scan picture. Eileen observes that Pat's grandson looks handsome and will no doubt get away with murder. Apparently Pat scared the living daylights out of Steve saying he would kill him if he ate Eileen's iced bun - she ate it all. Eileen reports that Steve was still shaking like a leaf when she got back from the dentist. Pat asks Eileen if she remembers Seb wearing a green parka. Eileen does not know. Pat lies saying he saw a lad wearing one and thought it looked a bit like Seb. Pat did not manage to catch up with him. But that is not important is it? What is important is Nicola and her beautiful baby boy. That is Pat's priority - his family. Closing shot of Pat thinking that getting at Seb will be easy once Nicola has moved in to his house.

Roll credits.

Aidan looks worried but on the whole I think he will do it. I suspect Johnny will have to get the factory up and running with Alya whilst Aidan and Carla are both laid up.

Not sure that Eva and Toyah can keep up the pretence for much longer; Toyah ignored Liz moving to evening hours only and did not spot Peter heading off to see Carla. And Eva will have to tell Adam something ...

I still don't get the Adam / Billy / drug addiction story. What has been shown does not make any sense - swapping pills and so on. The programme is being so circumspect to avoid causing upset that it is not telling the story.

And I am not sure I share Nicola's confidence that she is immune from Pat's paroxyms when he loses his temper.

Finally in the words of Mrs Dale I remain very worried about Emily Bishop / Eileen Derbyshire and Norris Cole / Malcolm Hebden?

Monday 12 February

Part 1 written by Cameron McAllister directed by Diana Patrick

Craig cannot step outside the door now until his watch reaches a certain number!

Eva's got a plan. Pretend to be on a beauty course for four months in America while she lets the baby finish baking in the oven. Surely Adam will believe that? Eva and Toyah are naively hopeful. They nearly bump into a very visibly pregnant Nicola who's moving into Eileen's. Adam comes along with an armful of flowers for his mother's grave as it's the anniversary of her death. Eva offers to go with him but he gently declines and affirms he'll be around later.

Tyrone gets up in the morning to all his laundry done and a cup of tea ready. Sean would make anyone a good wife! He's good with the kids as well and he's impressing Tyrone with his organizational skills and his ways with poached eggs!

Phelan comes across to see Nicola and Eileen moving boxes. He fusses over Nicola lifting a box which doesn't look that heavy. Gary comes along and is seconded into the box shifting. There's more to come and Gary manages to stop Phelan from going to the flat later to get it. Sarah and Bethany come out of the Kabin. Bethany can't resist shouting sarky comments from across the road about Gary's bit on the side.

Tim drives up. The two men exchange steely glances before Tim goes into the house where Sally is waiting. She tells him she's not coping. She is having a difficult time thinking about leaving her life there on the Street, her memories, both good and bad. He understands. She tells him she didn't want to ask him to stay, she's going to come with him.

Craig has made a boiled egg and soldiers for Bethany but waits for his watch to ding before serving it. She's pleased even if he's overcooked the egg. David isn't pleased that there's only a bread heel left for him while Sarah is rushing around with the laundry basket. David notices that all the appliances have been unplugged. Bethany decides to not eat the egg after all and tells Craig she has to go into work to get her wages. Bethany catches the bus but Craig just misses it.

Peter has brought Adam back home from the cemetery in a cab. They talk about Susan and Eva. He tells Adam they all owe it to Susan to get past what Billy did.

Summer had gone into the cafe for a breakfast sandwich but doesn't have enough money for more than a bag of crisps. Adam pulls out a fiver and pretends he found it outside, it must be hers! Adam tells her he knows what it's like to lose someone close. She can always come to him if she needs anything, deal? Deal.

Tim isn't sure Sally is positive about moving somewhere else but she insists she is. She says she'll have to resign as mayor which makes him feel bad. She feels she needs to be with him. They have a lovely kiss, full of genuine emotion.

Dev has a long floppy wig for Billy as part of a prize giving ceremony to do with the kids. Billy doesn't know anything about it but pretends Summer told him and he forgot but probably she didn't tell him at all. Elsewhere, Jess is in the cafe. Yasmeen recognizes her as being Craig's partner. She'd come looking for him but Yasmeen tells her she saw him waiting for a bus. Then she takes a call on the radio about a man hanging around a club giving the girls a hard time. The description sounds very much like Craig. Jess says she'll handle it.

Eva is cuddled up with Adam. She gathers her courage and tells him about the beauty course, three months or so in America. She bigs it up as a good opportunity. Adam doesn't want her to go. He doesn't know what he'll do if she goes and he's genuinely upset. He asks if she's finishing with him and she protests that's not what it is. He calms down and she promises they can make it work. She tells him she loves him and he says it back.

Billy has had a doctor's appointment and he's looking for stronger meds. He's told he's on the strongest already and they're addictive. All she can do is refer him to a pain clinic. He's not happy about it.

Jess has picked up Craig and brought him home. Jess gives him a hard time for putting her in a difficult position. It could come down to either her career or his.

At the garage, Tyrone is complimenting Sean's poached eggs. The lads tease Dev for using some of Sean's hand cream and then have a good natured go at David's "handbag dog". Sean appears just then to let Tyrone know about him handling the girls' schedule for the rest of the day.

Craig tells Jess that he didn't have a choice about Bethany going back to work so he went there to keep her safe. She tells him he has to keep his personal life at home. Jess wants to report Bethany for being under age and it looks like she's going to do just that which makes Craig worry that his girlfriend might find a sleazier place to work.

Toyah's pleased that Adam accepted the excuse of the beauty course. Eva talks about how much she loves Adam and Toyah reckons when she gets back, maybe he could be the "happy ever after". Toyah is looking forward to the future.

A woman called Mona has come into the cafe and spotted Phelan who's having a meal with Gary, oddly enough. Sounds like she was looking for him but Phelan isn't too keen on her. She's the project manager for the mill development and tells him the developer has been wondering where he is. They're told the developer wants to build another 10 flats and the plans had already been approved. The project has just doubled in price so their wages will also be a lot more. Phelan is chuffed about the good news on top of having Nicola move in today.

Eva is looking at places to rent. Country cottages look lovely but Toyah points out that she needs to be close to hospitals and buses and not so far away that Toyah can't visit. Peter comes into the back room with Adam in tow. Adam has a surprise. He wants to come with her. Imran can look after the office and he can always do some research projects. Uh oh.

Part 2 written by Mark Wadlow directed by Diana Patrick.

Kirk is shoring up for a "run for my wife" event by drinking wine and eating crisps which is how he interpreted suggestions from a website he looked up. Toyah seems concerned that Adam has been in the back quite awhile with Eva. Eva, meanwhile, is thrown that Adam seems keen on going away with her while she "takes her beauty course". How is she going to talk him out of this one? He tells her a break away from his life there in Weatherfield sounds like just the thing. Busy schedules don't cut it, he's determined so she tells him she doesn't want him to come.

Billy has emerged from the medical clinic and meets Izzy on her way in. Izzy mentions she has to get a renewal on her pain meds which barely do the job anyway though they're so strong that anyone else would be knocked out.

Sean and Tyrone walk home under an umbrella, chatting about Sean's cooking and job hunting.

Eva insists that she'll be busy with clients and he'll have nothing to do. He finally gets the message. She agrees, maybe they should cool things. His phone rings and she insists he take it. He jumps up and leaves the room, looking grim. Toyah, who's been waiting in the hallway comes in to find Eva in tears.

Sally and Tim have gathered Sophie and Rosie to tell them the news. They are moving away and they can come if they want. Rosie doesn't want to, she's got a highly skilled job! Sophie says she'll just find a flat with someone she knows.

Eva comes out into the bar. Adam confronts her and asks if there's someone else. She tells him they want different things and he's certain now that she's cheating on him. He calls her a hypocrite and walks out. She says nothing to try to change his mind and you can tell she's heart broken.

In the cafe, Bethany shows Craig some very high heeled shoes, asking his opinion. Izzy comes in and wows at the shoes. Roy delivers a dead pan lecture on the types of damage she could do to herself. He advises sensible shoes. Izzy joins Billy, leaving her hand bag on the table. When she turns her back, Billy grabs Izzy's prescription which is peeking out of the bag. He's gone when she comes back to the table. Craig and Bethany argue about her job with him explaining it's illegal. Just then she gets a phone call from her boss, LuLu and it turns out Bethany has been reported for being underage and is sacked.

Phelan has met up with the developer to talk about the extra work. Turns out what they want to do is drain the water area (the pool/lake where the bodies are buried!). Pat tries to talk them out of it, is it really going to be worth all the extra effort?

Back to the cafe, Tyrone tells Izzy he's not running in the couples' race because Fiz isn't there and she teases him about Sean. Craig tells Bethany he was outside the club earlier because he cares about her, he was just looking out for her but Jess found out and realized she was underage. He tries to convince her that the kind of job she's doing is demeaning but she's not impressed. She tries to storm out but he pulls her back and causes her shopping bags full of scanty lingerie to spill out.

Eva's heartbroken and crying in the back room. Peter comes in. He's heard about the split from Adam and is concerned. Can they not patch it up? Peter doesn't understand why, if she loves him, she is binning Adam. She can't talk to him, though, but admits she isn't being honest. If she is, other people will get hurt. Peter tells her that you really have to look after number 1 sometimes. She tearfully agrees.

Eva heads to Adam's flat but he won't buzz her in at first until she says she has something to tell him. Peter tells Toyah back at the pub that Eva's gone to see Adam. Toyah tells him that the break up was a case of 'too much too soon', downplaying it. Peter admits he talked to Eva who's gone to tell Adam the whole truth. Toyah doesn't like the sound of that.

Back to Adam's, Eva apologizes. She's about to be honest with him but spies two wine glasses. It didn't take him long. He gives her chapter and verse, with all the reasons she gave him for the split. The owner of the other glass of wine comes out to make her presence known. Eva runs away.

Eileen and Nicola are in the pub, waiting for Phelan who joins them along with Gary. Nicola gets him a drink and they go sit down. Phelan whines about the project manager who calls just then. Gary tells Nicola that Phelan really got upset over something the project manager told him though he doesn't know what it was. Izzy wheels in to pick up Gary for their movie night with Jake but just then realizes she's lost her new pain pill prescription. She's going to nip back and have a look at home first. Phelan has been summoned back to the building site. Toyah tries to call Eva but gets voice mail.

Sean was talking to a man who had promised to call him or text but Sean never got any of the messages. Ty and the girls are having their tea when Ruby gets up and decides to run upstairs. Sean wonders if anyone deleted the messages. Hope says Ruby was messing with the phone earlier. Tyrone goes calling for Ruby who denies deleting messages. Tyrone doesn't believe her. Why do I start thinking that Hope just might be the culprit even if Ruby isn't turning the blame around on her sister. It's just that it's too obvious.

Toyah frets about Eva. Peter comes in and Toyah is about to tell him something important when Eva comes in. She tells them Adam found a shoulder to cry on so Toyah realizes she doesn't have to tell Peter anything. Eva knows Toyah was relieved. Toyah assures Eva she's not forcing her to do anything she doesn't want to. Eva thinks but decides she's doing what she had planned to.

Billy is taking loads of photos of Summer with her award. He's all smiles.

At the building site, Mona and Phelan are tramping around where the water is. He is trying to tell her it's a bigger job than she realizes. She tells him he's got 6 weeks to do it or she'll give the job to someone else.

Wednesday 14 February

A weary looking Summer is loading the washing machine. Her phone bleeps with a message and when she checks she finds that Amy has sent photos of her birthday celebration that Summer didn't go to. She puts down the phone and starts to empty the kitchen bin.

Craig arrives at Bethany's door with a bunch of flowers. She's not impressed, she's cross with him for losing her her job. He snaps back that it's not all about her, twice he's risked his job for her. She yells at him that every time he interferes in her life, everything goes wrong, and he's to leave her alone! She slams the door.

Craig walks away and dumps the flowers in a bin, noticed by Jude who walks around the corner with a bunch of pink and red balloons. He goes straight over and pulls them out, and takes them to Angie.

Adam is out on the Street too, he sees Summer heave the bin bag from the kitchen into a wheelie bin, and he sees Angie give Jude a hug and a kiss. He looks pretty fed up.

In the Bistro, Michelle tells Robert she's glad they're finally in the black, and also that Robert is fit enough to run the race later. He reminds her that she's running it too. Kate comes in and thinks that Michelle's pretty bracelet must have been a Valentine's day present from Robert, but it seems that Robert didn't even get her a card.

Billy is up and struggles into the kitchen where Summer, who is now ready for school, tells him what there is for lunch. He says she doesn't have to do all this for him, and warns her she's going to be late for school. She lies, and says they're starting later today, there's a staff meeting. He's sorry she missed Amy's birthday meal, but she brushes it off. Then he gets her to open a cupboard and inside is a Valentine's card that he's made for her. He then asks where his hoodie is, that he left on the back of the chair. She tells him she put it in the washing machine. She goes off to school and he opens the machine to find his pills ruined!

Up in the solicitor's office, Adam gets a text from Billy asking for help, he's desperate. Mary comes in then, she's brought Adam a rose that was left over in the florist. Rosie makes a remark about the rose and Eva, and Adam confesses that she's given him the elbow.

Sarah and Bethany are in the cafe, Gary comes in and looks across from the counter. Sarah looks at him too, and mutters that the one she wanted didn't want her enough. Bethany tells her to have some self respect. As Gary comes out, Aidan comes in. Bethany asks Sarah if she didn't have a 'thing' with Aidan once. Sarah tells her it was one disastrous date, and she's wiped it from her memory.

In the garage, Tyrone is telling Kevin and Josh how helpful Sean is around the house, especially with Fiz away, and he's thinking he should do something to thank him. Just then Sean appears, asking if there's anything Ty needs from Freshco. Ty takes the opportunity to invite Sean out for dinner later, they'll have a night on the town.

Amy and Summer are sitting in class, while the teacher gives back their work. Amy isn't listening, she's trying to show Summer the pictures of her birthday meal, on her phone. (She's allowed it in class?) Summer yawns as the teacher gives her back her work, commenting that it's the lowest mark she's ever had, 32 percent.

Eva is in the cafe, where Shona asks her quietly if she had the termination. Eva says that she did, and she's ok. Billy hobbles in on his crutches, and sits down with Adam who hands him a bottle of pills, something which doesn't go unnoticed by Eva.

In the Bistro, Aidan tells Kate that the hospital has been in touch, the operation is on for next week. Just then, Bethany comes in and sits down next to Aidan, all chummy-like, and starts a conversation along the lines of him having a sister who works there and can fit him in on a night like tonight – Valentine's! Aidan points out that he doesn't have anyone to have a meal with, and he's not going to sit on his own. She then suggests he asks her mum, saying they've both been through a rough time recently, they could cheer each other up. Aidan doesn't think this is the right time, he's not in the right place for a relationship. Bethany says she's not asking him to marry her, and thinks they could just have a nice time.

Class is dismissed at school, but Summer's teacher asks her to stay behind for a quick chat. She then talks to Summer about how her results are slipping, not just in science but also in maths and English, and her timekeeping isn't great, she's often late. Her teacher kindly tells her not to worry, and says that if they address this right now they can turn things around. Summer gets a bit tearful, and says she'll work extra hard from now on. The teacher asks how things are at home, and wonders if anything is bothering her. She adds that Summer's grandma is worried too, and phones the school a lot. Summer tells her that everything is fine and makes a quick exit.

In track suit and bandana, Mary is getting ready for the run, and wondering why it's called Run For Your Wife. Craig is going to run with her, as Norris isn't up to it.

A car pulls up in the Street, and a young, bearded man gets out.

Eva is ringing on Billy's doorbell, but not getting any answer. As she walks away, Billy peeps out from behind the curtain upstairs, and then, breathing heavily, sits at the table and takes more of the pills that Adam gave him.

Kevin and Josh are in the pub talking to Leanne. Just then Tyrone appears, all ready for his dinner out with Sean, and they tease him about it. Just then, Ty's date for the evening arrives – Sean, looking very smart. Tyrone tells them this is not a date, just one mate saying thanks to another.

In the community centre Mary is taking the runners through some warm-up exercises.

Over in the medical centre, Liz goes in to introduce herself to the new doctor, who is the bearded young man who arrived in the Street earlier. She's amazed to find that it is Alex, Michelle's real son that was swapped by mistake at birth in the hospital. It seems that Michelle doesn't know he's there. Yet.

Eva is at Eileen's house, and she rings Summer to see if she's heard from Billy. He's not answering the door or his phone, but Summer hasn't heard from his either, and she's now worried in case he's had an accident. As she hangs up and tries ringing Billy himself, we see him apparently unconscious. Summer then rushes to get her bus, but misses it, and is immediately approached by a man in a car, who offers her a lift. He opens the car door. "Hop in," he says, "I'll have you home in no time....."

Entering the flat, Eva and Eileen are shocked to find Billy comatose. Eva finds the pills she saw Adam give Billy.

Summer is uncomfortable as the man in the car keeps pace with her walk. Phelan stops by in his van and rescues her from the man's attentions, who then speeds off.

Ali is surprised to hear that Michelle is still in the area and makes it clear to Liz that he's bitter at the lack of contact he's received from her over the past few years.

Bethany helps Sarah with her hair and make-up and tells her about the date with Aidan she's organised for her. Sarah refuses unless she patches things up with Craig.

The runners are cheered on. Billy has recovered and Eva questions him about the pills that Adam gave him. She refuses to hand them over to him, saying she wants answers from Adam.

Mary and Craig find the run difficult. Beth worries where Kirk has disappeared to, not realizing he is stuck in a portaloo. At the finishing line, Robert goes down on one knee and proposes to Michelle. Delighted, she accepts as everyone applauds.

Billy tells Eileen that his painkillers are the only thing keeping him going.

Tyrone finds the restaurant prices expensive and pretends that he and Sean are a couple to take advantage of the Valentine's Day half-price offer. The Maitre D' is taken with Sean.

Eva confronts Adam in his office, mistaking his motivation as making money from drug dealing and accusing him of making Billy an addict. Arriving outside the door, Peter overhears and steps in to stop Eva ringing the police, saying he will deal with the matter. Peter tears a strip off his nephew, telling him how upset Susan would be at his actions. Adam agrees to drop the matter.

Aidan takes Sarah to the Bistro where the two feel awkward around all the Valentine's couples.

Kirk arrives home, traumatized after being stuck for hours.

Following advice from Gail, Bethany organises a lunch with Craig, saying it's make or break time.

Sarah is impressed when Aidan tells her about his kidney donation.

Sean is annoyed that he can't get to know the Maitre D' due to his deception with Tyrone.

Geraldine rings Adam who tells her he can't help her any more.

Eileen and Eva promise Billy their full support in recovering and keeping Summer.

Friday 16 February

Audrey and Bethany are talking to Sarah about her date with Aidan. She tells them he's nice and he's funny but they just didn't click. Then Sarah asks Bethany about her and Craig, and they have a lunch date today to try and sort out their situation. Audrey says that if they really like each other they'll find a way to make it work.

Craig, meanwhile, is in the cafe with Beth, Kirk and Sinead, nervously awaiting his lunch date. Sinead thinks they're perfect together. Just then Craig's superior officer comes in, and he gets up from the table. As the others leave, they make jokes about his date with Bethany later, and the policewoman talks to him about her. She tells him that the club swore they didn't know Bethany was underage, but all the other girls were ok. He asks if that'll be the end of it, and she tells him to be careful, this is how it starts, turning a blind eye, doing a mate a favour....that's how it started with Neil.

Eileen is looking after Billy who is going through severe withdrawal symptoms, coming off the painkillers that Adam was giving him. Summer has been told that he has the flu, and is staying with Eileen.

Michelle and Robert are visiting Carla with their news about their forthcoming marriage. Carla asks what they're doing to celebrate, they have nothing planned so she picks up her phone and invites Johnny and the rest of the clan to the Bistro for the afternoon before they can stop her. Then they tell her that they haven't told anyone else yet. Just then Daniel arrives at the window outside Carla's room so she tells Michelle and Robert they have to go now.

Craig is busy ironing a shirt to wear for his lunch date with Bethany, he's meeting her at 1.30. His phone rings, it's Bethany, but he tells Beth and Kirk that he can't answer it, he's started his ironing and has to finish or else he'll mess it up. Then Beth and Kirk leave him to it, with Beth calling out as she leaves to check the grill, she thinks she left it on. He puts down the iron on the shirt, and goes over to check the cooker. He rushes back to the ironing board, it's now 1.21. He looks worried.

Daniel is sitting with Carla, but their conversation seems a bit awkward and stilted. She then asks him about Sinead, and he tells her how he's now keeping his distance. Carla asks if he still loves her and the confesses that he does.

Liz and Michelle's son Ali come out of the medical centre. They see Michelle and Robert hugging Kate and Johnny outside the Bistro, and Liz says he should be going over there for his lunch, he could get some freebies from his mum. He asks Liz not to tell Michelle that he's there.

David is in the cafe, asking Shona for beans on toast without the toast, he's watching his carbs. She then goes over to Eva and asks if Billy is off his crutches yet, and she says how she's been reading about herbal pain relief. Just then Imran comes in and tells Eva that first Todd went, and now Adam has gone, he's apparently taken a last minute holiday to Tenerife. Meanwhile, David is getting text messages about diet and fitness from Josh, and arranging to meet him later. Just then Audrey comes in and tells David he has to get back to the salon, and she'll bring his beans over. Liz comes in and Audrey asks her about the new dishy doctor, and Liz confides in her that the dishy doctor is Michelle's biological son, but Michelle doesn't know he's there, and he doesn't want her to know.

Everyone is arriving at the Bistro for the celebration, including Maria who tells Aidan she thinks it's great that he's donating a kidney to Carla. Then she sees Bethany, who is waiting for Craig, and goes over to speak to her. Maria tells her that Craig is a lovely bloke, and that's something rare round there.

It's now 1.40 pm and Craig is trying to get everything in order so that he can leave the house. He unplugs all the plugs from their sockets, and checks the cooker controls again and again and again.

In the Bistro, Bethany texts Craig, asking where he is. Back in the house, Craig is still checking everything over and over, and the time is now 1.56.

In the Bistro, all the Connor family start asking Daniel if there's anything between him and Carla, he tells them they're just friends.

Liz comes in and asks to speak to Michelle, but she's in the ladies. Johnny calls her over and asks if she'd like a drink.

Eva arrives to see Billy, who is suffering on the sofa. She's brought herbal pain relief teas and tries to cheer him up. She tells him she's sorry for what Adam did, but Billy reckons he was only trying to help.

Michelle is out of the loo and Liz goes over to speak to her, but Michelle is busy and asks her to wait a few minutes. Liz goes off to the ladies herself, and while she's gone, Michelle cuts her hand pretty badly. Jenny reckons it will need stitches, so Robert takes her over there.

Shona goes into the pub and spots David having a drink with Josh, and it's a pint – but a pint of cranberry juice, not beer. Shona thinks he's being weird!

Liz is now out of the loo and is running down the road to the medical centre.

Maria and little Liam are walking down the road, when they see Sinead. She goes over to speak to her, giving Liam the keys to the flat, where Craig is still inside going through numerous rituals, he's been unable to leave to go to meet Bethany. Liam then comes in and asks what he's doing, telling him that Bethany is waiting for him. Liam asks why he's doing what he's doing, and Craig explains that he has to, if he doesn't, Bethany will hate him, or something bad will happen. Liam thinks it's stupid, and he should stop, but he promises that he won't tell anyone.

Michelle has arrived at the medical centre, and Robert calls for someone to come and help. Liz runs in but before she can tell Michelle that Alex is working there, he appears, asking if he can help. Michelle stares at him, "It's you!" she says, stunned. Ali says he'll get someone else to help her, but Robert, who knows nothing about any of it, asks why he can't help, and Michelle then tells Robert that he is her son.

Anne Logan

Hi folks, it seems that you have to put up with me for the next three weeks, while Richard is on holiday.

Opening with Robert coming to terms with meeting Michelle's son. (It is lucky that when they arrive at the surgery there are no other patients waiting and Ali can see her immediately!)

Over at the flat, Craig is still counting knives. Maria comes in and is surprised to see him there when Bethany is waiting for him.

In the surgery, Michelle is having her wound dressed by Ali. He tells her that he has only been working there for a few days, but when she asks when he was going to tell her, he changes the subject. Then he goes out to get some dressing and another doctor comes in to take over.

Bethany returns home and tells her mother that Craig stood her up, without any message. She is convinced that he is not interested in her any more.

Eva goes round to see Billy. He opens the door, all hunched up, hardly able to walk. Eva rings Eileen and leaves a message on her answering machine to say that Billy is not better and could she have Summer for another night.

Sinead visits Carla in hospital. Carla says she is not apologising for sleeping with Daniel. Carla tells her that he still loves Sinead. He didn't say anything before the wedding as he thought that was what she wanted, and he is an idiot. Carla explains that she may die, and doesn't want anybody being upset by her past actions.

Craig goes round to apologise to Bethany. He tells her that he had to go to work, and his phone was broken. She tells him he is lying because she saw him through the window. She wants the truth, but he says he can't tell her. Bethany says that she cannot take it anymore, and doesn't think that they can continue together. He checks the time on his watch.

In the Rovers, Ty is joking with Josh and Sarah about the photos of his dinner with Sean. Shona comes in. When David explains to her that he is on a fitness plan with Josh, Shona goes home because he has become too boring.

Back home Robert and Michelle are discussing her son. She said she often worried whether he liked her or not. She is convinced that he doesn't. She does wonder if it is a coincidence that he is working on the same Street as her. Robert says that if it wasn't a coincidence it must be because he wanted to see her.

Liz goes into Ali's surgery (still no patients!). She wants to discuss the events of earlier. He admits he doesn't care for Michelle although Liz doesn't believe him. He says that he doesn't bear her ill, but as far as he is concerned she is a stranger to him.

Ty arrives home and bumps into Maria. She teases him about not being with his 'other half'. The kids are with him, and ask if she means Mummy. He explains he was with Sean for a meal on Valentine's Day, and there is nothing funny about that.

Sinead goes round to see Daniel. He offers a cup of tea, but turns it down so she can stand by the radiator as she is so cold. Then she says it wasn't her idea, and takes off her coat to reveal that she is just wearing her lingerie! Saying that she loves him and she believes he loves her too. Daniel is somewhat confused and distracted.

Maria tells Craig that she is going to the pub, and wonders if he will be alright on his own. He says he is okay. Liam comes down to watch tv, and asks him if he is going to do 'that stuff' again. Craig says "probably".

Sinead and Daniel are in bed together. When Sinead explains that Carla arranged it all, Daniel is surprised. Sinead says that Carla obviously wants the two of them to be together.

Eva is round with Billy again. He is still hunched up , in pain, lying on the sofa. She is trying him with some herbal medicines. Eileen comes in and says she has been to the Medical Centre. He is worried that they will find out he has been taking illegal painkillers.

Michelle is looking depressed on the couch. Robert wonders if she wants to go back and see if her son is still there. Michelle says that he is obviously trying to keep his distance and she doesn't want to frighten her. She tells Robert that she had been trying to keep in contact with Ali having written to him at his last known address, and sent him a Christmas card telling him all about herself, but not heard from him. Robert insists that she goes to the Medical Centre tomorrow and talk to him.

Will Billy get over his addiction? Will Carla / Aidan's transplant be successful? We will hopefully know the answers to these questions by next week, when I will be back.

Part 1
Written by Carmel Morgan
Directed by Sean Healy

It's come to the day where Aidan and Carla are having surgery. Aidan is bundled into a cab accompanied by Johnny and Kate with a wave off from Jenny who never does seem to manage the appropriate thing to say, does she? Aidan says he's not nervous but he looks a wreck. Peter waves them off as they go by and exchanges a few words with Jenny.

Summer is spending the day with Amy (no school? half term?) who offers Summer a hang out spot in the florists whereby she can cadge some spends off her mother. i guess we'll find out soon enough whether Tracy has deep pockets or not. In the meantime, Summer sympathizes with Aidan who will be getting far fewer flowers than Carla when his op will be more difficult.

Upstairs, Eileen is with Billy who is still in pain. They've told Summer he's got the flu.

Michelle has been up brooding about Ali. He doesn't want to be there but she hopes to take advantage if he does. Robert is firmly in the yes dear mode of support.

Over at Maria's, Liam is faffing about before going to school. He tells Craig that he's checked all the switches so nothing bad will happen. After they leave, Craig starts up his round the room checks, counting and balancing.

Carla and Aidan sign their forms while Kate and Carla tease him about the hospital fashion he has to wear. Left alone, Aidan and Carla have a moment. She's very, very grateful. He tells her it's the best thing he'll ever do.

Liz is telling Steve all about Alex and how the medical boards to send students on placements and the students have no say in where they are sent. Steve doesn't really believe her and they have a little gossip about him until Ali himself turns up to see Steve. One person he's glad to see and they shake hands. Ali suggests a pint at dinnertime and after Steve downgrades his to a Half a shandy since he's working, they agree.

Kate gets emotional with Aidan and Johnny is clearly a bit worried but proud. The nurses come for him and ask if he's really going ahead with it. Speak now or forever hold your peace. Aidan is completely clear. He needs to do this for himself as well as for Carla.

Eileen has to go to work and is trying to ask Pat to come sit with Billy for awhile but he's got excuses. Billy insists Eileen go to work and leave him on his own. He really is a mess. Eileen decides to lock him in and will be back as soon as she can. Billy shakes and tries to pray. Summer comes in and sees him in that state. To her eyes, sweaty and shivering, he does look like he's got the worst flu ever.

Back to Carla's room, Kate and Johnny are watching Carla and Roy play Scrabble. Her surgery doesn't get scheduled until a bit after Aidan's starts. Carla is a bit creaky. Johnny takes the opportunity to try to get Roy to leave but Carla wants all three of them there before her op. Roy is sent for tea instead. She scolds Johnny for his attitude with Roy.

Billy insists he's just got a really bad flu. She's scared he's dying and he reassures her he's not. He sends her to fetch Eileen. He snatches his phone off the table and staggers to his feet. (she will have left the door on the latch).

It's Carla's turn to go to pre-op. Carla tells them all she loves them. She even manages a kiss out of Roy.

Summer returns with Eileen to find no trace of Billy. Eileen pretends it's a good sign that he went out for some fresh air. She promises she'll go look for him since Summer is supposed to go to the cinema with Amy. Summer wants to stay and help but Eileen overrides her and looks concerned.

Shona and Maria commiserate about the tough training sessions and about getting and keeping men. At a table, David tells Bethany she can come back to work at the salon if she wants. She agrees. Craig arrives, late and apologetic. Craig is pleased to hear she's giving up the dancing.

Steve is in the pub with Ali. Liz has swapped shifts with someone at the medical center so she can be nosy and watch (she wasn't invited). Liz reminds him to put in a good word for Michelle. Behind the bar Peter comes out from the back room just as Jenny goes by and he asks after Aidan and Carla. So far so good. Ali and Steve chat about the old days and his ex-relationship with Michelle. Steve's assessment of the downfall of he and Michelle and of he and Tracy's relationship is quite funny and startlingly accurate. Michelle and Robert come in, and spot Steve and Ali immediately which throws Michelle for a loop.

Carla is on the table, and the doctor and technicians are putting her under.

Billy is outside his church. A man comes along the path and it's his brother Lee, the junkie, as you may recall. Billy begs him to get him something for the pain. It looks as if Lee is going to go into smug overdrive hearing that.

Back to the pub, Robert suggests they go sit with them and leads her over. She uses her recent cut as her excuse to talk to him which puts him off. When she asks if they can join them, he gets out of the booth and says he's got to get back to work. She backs down herself and drags Robert out. She's in tears. Ali offers Steve another round.

Billy tells Lee he had an accident and has been in terrible pain. He'll even take Class A drugs if he has to, he's that desperate.

And one episode ends, the next will begin...

Part 2
Written by Mark Burt
Directed by Sean Healy

As the opening credits roll, Lee is indeed taking the high road (pun intended) and Billy begs. Lee shouts at him for abandoning him and being previously holier than thou and tells Billy he's embarrassing himself. Billy doesn't care. And conveniently, Lee has a bottle in his pocket containing Methadone and warns him it's stronger than he's used to. Billy just wants to get better. Lee snorts, keep telling yourself that, mate. Lee leaves him with the bottle in the churchyard.

Johnny joins Roy on a park bench outside the hospital while they wait. Johnny takes off his watch so he isn't looking at it all the time. He tells Roy he doesn't know Carla like he wishes he did. Roy offers to give Johnny some insights.

Josh comes into the cafe to offer Shona an available training spot. She decides to back down and let Maria take the session (because she knows Maria fancies Josh). She can't say what she really wants to so she ends up taking the session herself. Bethany tells Craig that working in the salon will get the family off her back.

Michelle has come to the medical centre to see Ali. Liz apologizes for Michelle finding out about Alex the way she did. She was going to tell her but couldn't find the right time. She tells her that Ali asked her not to tell Michelle.

Peter comes into the shop looking for Tracy. She's summoned him because she needs to borrow his car for deliveries. He doesn't want to so she tries to get him to take the deliveries instead and he can even drive. When he finds out all the flowers and things are for Carla and Aidan, he agrees to drive her.

Michelle has had Ali check her injured hand again. They make small talk. She gets a text that says Aidan is out of surgery and tells Ali that family means everything to her. Ali looks like she slapped him in the face and I can't blame him. He doesn't say anything though, and when she asks how long he's going to be at the clinic, he tells her 4 months and brings the visit back to business only.

Johnny and Roy are still talking about Carla's personality traits and whether they're inherited or not. Johnny apologizes for being shirty with Roy earlier and confesses that he's a bit jealous of how close Roy and Carla are. Roy admits it's because of their shared experience (Hayley) and he and Carla's relationship is no threat to his. Kate comes out to tell them Aidan's out of surgery and it all went fine. Johnny sighs. They turn around to go in and see Aidan.

Eileen knocks at the church door. Billy is outside around the corner. She's checked everywhere. She scolds her about how worried they all were. He only says he needed time to think. He does admit he feels a bit better for the fresh air and maybe the drugs are working their way out of his system. (or into it). She leads him out of the churchyard.

Johnny and Kate are at Aidan's bedside. He's still asleep while they sing his praises. And they are indeed high praises indeed especially from the father from whom he's always tried so hard to gain approval. Kate insists he tell Aidan that when he wakes up. A nurse comes in to tell them Carla's out of surgery and awake.

Tracy and Peter, arms full of flowers and balloons, walk through the hospital. Peter is a bit sarcastic at Tracy's attitude but considering she was willing to kill Carla just a couple of short years ago, she's doing quite well! They see a somber Roy talking with a nurse and Tracy immediately thinks Carla's died. No, no she's fine, Roy insists. Tracy tells him he's got to work on his happy face! Roy points them to the waiting area.

Eva has been staying with Summer who tells her she really likes her and she's very calming. She would have liked Eva and Billy to be a couple if Billy wasn't gay. Eva isn't quite sure what to say to all this. Eileen brings in Billy who's shivery but only because he's cold now. He apologizes to Summer who hugs him and tells him not to do it to her again. She can see he looks a bit different than before. Summer wants to come back home. He assures them all he's over the worst and wants her home as well.

In Maria's flat, Craig and Liam are watching telly and Liam wants to know if he kept everyone safe today. Craig thinks he did, one person in particular. So what happens now pipes the little boy. Craig says he can't stop being vigilant.

At the clinic, Liz has a word with Ali about Michelle. He tells her Michelle's hand is ok but he has no idea about her emotional state. Liz is surprised they didn't have any serious conversation. Liz tells him she's just looking out for her friend. He cuts her off and goes into his office.

Josh is putting Shona through her paces, stretching her hamstrings painfully but it did seem to work. Session over. He does tease her about playing matchmaker with he and Maria and tells her Maria isn't his type.

Johnny and Kate come in again to see Aidan. They promise him a party when he and Carla are better. Aidan tells them he needs a rest so they might as well go. Johnny kisses him goodbye. The minute they're out, Aidan breaks down in tears! That's got all of us wondering what's going on there? Roy is in Carla's room and Carla says she feels a bit better already. She asks Roy if anything interesting happened while she was under. He relates that he and Johnny talked about her and they came to an understanding. She tells Roy that she's going to sell up the Devon house and move back.

Summer finds Billy cooking and looking better. He promises things will change. He calls her God's greatest blessing. Then sends her to her room to do her homework. When she leaves, he opens the cabinet to find the bottle of methadone and takes another sip.

Wednesday 21 February

Pat comes downstairs to find Nicola in the kitchen and Eileen engrossed with the laptop, he slips his hand into Nicola's bag and takes her keys, putting them in his pocket. It seems Eileen has been looking up drug withdrawal symptoms on the internet, and the way Billy is behaving doesn't add up. Eileen thinks they may need to keep Summer occupied today, and Pat suggests that he and Nicola take her out somewhere.

Johnny goes into the cafe looking for Roy and offers him a lift to the hospital to see Carla and Aidan, and then lunch at a country pub. Roy however, says that's difficult, because his mother, who is in Hastings, has slipped a disc and needs him to go and stay for a couple of weeks, but he's also worried about Carla. Johnny tells him they can look after Carla he should go and look after his mum. Roy then goes off to book the ticket.

Billy hobbles into the kitchen where Summer has been ironing. He tells her as it's half term he'll take her to the cinema. Just then Eileen arrives and asks Summer to go back to her house and fetch her purse. When she's alone with Billy she confronts him about still taking the pills.

Michelle is visiting Carla, and tells her how sad she is that Ali doesn't want anything to do with her. Carla tells her she just has to find another way of getting through to him.

Back in Billy's flat, Eileen is still telling Billy she knows he's taking pills, but he says he isn't, he still feels a complete wreck, but he's putting on an act for Summer. Just then Summer comes back with Eileen's handbag and so Eileen leaves.

Jenny is in the medical centre giving Liz the address of their accommodation in Spain, telling her that the medical centre over there will need Johnny's details. Steve comes in with Liz's packed lunch, and she's just saying to Steve that she needs a holiday, when Pat Phelan comes out of the doctor's surgery, saying he needs to be seen again in about a month. Liz asks if he thinks Eileen would like to go on a trip to Barcelona with her. Pat gruffly tells her that Eileen wouldn't like to go, after all her son is still missing and the last thing she needs is to go on a drunken bender. Liz starts to protest but Pat is curt and asks her to just make him an appointment. As he walks off, Liz remarks to Steve that Pat is a real control freak. Liz doesn't like him and cursed the day Eileen married him.

Nicola outside going through the shed, on the phone to Gary telling him she's searched the house twice and not been able to find anything that might help them.

Carla is taken in a wheelchair to visit Aidan in his hospital bed. He's still getting some pains and won't eat anything.

Tracy has taken Amy into the Bistro where she makes nasty comments about Steve giving Michelle the money. Just then Billy hobbles in with Summer, they didn't get to the cinema in time to see the film. When the girls go off to sit by themselves, Billy suggests to Tracy that Amy and Summer team up to work together on the school history project. Tracy declines, telling him that she wants Amy to pass, whereas Summer's school work has been very bad lately, so Amy has told her.

Steve has joined Amy and Tracy in the Bistro for a meal. Michelle comes out and tells Steve his steak is on the house.

Billy and Summer are sitting at another table and he brings up the subject of school. She tells him she's falling behind but is sure she'll catch up soon. She goes off to the loo, so a worried looking Billy texts his brother, saying he needs to see him asap.

Roy and Johnny are visiting Carla. Roy tells her she'll be well looked after while he's away, and Johnny tells her he's going to look after Roy's allotment. Roy goes off to catch his train, and Carla tells Johnny that she's going to transfer her shares in Underworld to Aidan.

Eileen is in the medical centre, where Liz asks if there's any news of Todd, but there isn't. Liz then brings up the subject of the holiday, and Eileen seems well up for it. Liz then tells her how Pat had dismissed the idea earlier. Eileen then looks very doubtful and when Liz suggests they book it, she says she has to discuss it with Pat first. They then get into an argument about Pat, with Eileen asking if Liz doesn't like him. Liz then tells her no, she doesn't like him, but is sure that news doesn't come as a complete shock, after all she could ask anyone on the Street and she'd find he's not exactly Mr. Popular. Eileen is obviously very offended and picks up her bag and goes.

Back at the flat, Billy is feeling rough and tells Summer he's going to have a lie down. He suggest she goes over to see Asha. When she's gone, Billy gets a text message from his brother saying he can't get there until tomorrow.

Johnny breaks the news to Jenny that they have to delay their trip to Spain for three months because they'll have to look after Carla. She's not at all happy, she's booked flights and even bought a trikini. (?) She can't see why they have to wait three months, anyway. He then tells her that he wants to keep an eye on the factory as Carla has given her shares to Aidan.

In the hospital, Aidan and Carla are playing cards, and talking about the factory.

Nicola is on the phone to Seb when Pat comes back, so she hangs up quickly. When she leaves the room, he pulls some keys out of his pocket, he's obviously had a spare set cut. He throws Nicola's keys back into her bag, and pockets the other ones. Eileen comes in then, asking why he never told her about him and Liz not liking each other. He says he didn't want to upset her, but he always thought Liz was self-absorbed. He then tells her that he's realised there are two types of people in this world, those who stand by you, and those that break your heart. Those, he says, have to be cut loose, permanently. (Possibly referring to Nicola? Ooh err!)

Liz invites Eileen out for lunch by way of apology for slagging off Phelan. Eileen makes a point of checking with Phelan before accepting.

David returns home after a night out on the town with Josh.

Billy gets Eva to take Summer shopping so that she's not in the flat when Lee arrives.

Johnny can't wait to start gardening on the allotment.

Michelle reaches out to Ali by making a curry dish for him.

Sarah is shocked to see Lee enter Billy's flat.

Eileen falls out with Liz again when she refuses to take back her comments about Phelan.

Lee is cool towards Billy, believing that he's only using him to get drugs. Billy tries to prove otherwise by offering him a hot meal and a bath and promising never to abandon him again. He doesn't tell Lee about Summer and says that a photo of her is of Todd's niece.

Phelan uses his key to get into Nicola's flat and finds Seb listening to music on his laptop. He leaves without making his presence known to the lad.

David finds Sarah hiding from Lee in No.8. Lee lets Billy have more methadone as a birthday present and asks if he can stay the night. He's sceptical of Billy's excuse that Todd's family are coming over.

Johnny finds the allotment too cold and ends up sharing a bottle of brandy in the empty factory with Liz.

David pins Lee against a wall and demands to know why he's back. He's momentarily distracted when Josh calls over to him, allowing Lee to knee David and flee.

Nicola rushes home when a "concerned neighbour" sees an intruder in her flat and calls the police. Seb thinks it was Phelan.

Jenny peeved that Johnny has been getting drunk with Liz while she's been getting the flat ready for their guests.

Ali returns Michelle's curry, saying that he doesn't accept food from patients.

David explains his history with Lee to Josh. Josh offers to help him should he decide to sort Lee out.
