Derek's humiliation continues: Victor has Derek chauffeur him
to Halifax for a meeting. Mike's plot ripens: he cuts Ingram out
and goes straight to the travel agent for whom the bags are destined.
Maurice's daughter Stephanie is wed, but she and new husband Desmond
are off to a rough start: a fight in the street upon returning
from the reception, and Steph locks Des out (they are supposed
to leave on their honeymoon in the morning). Audrey is going out
looking at houses again. Mike's plan involves using Alma's flat
as a temporary factory. She says "no", but is weakening.

Mike leaves Alma to supervise the "factory" - Gail is
furious. Victor takes Mavis to lunch while Derek is out of the

???? - Monday 14 May 1990
Tracy tries to see Ken at his new flat, but he's out. Meanwhile,
Deirdre and Dave figure out what she's done, and decide to pretend
nothing's happened. Alec sees Nigel Ridley about Newton and Ridley's
plans for the Rovers, and is told it will be "nothing like"
The Riverboat--no, a New York bar, instead, to be renamed "Yankees".
Bet starts a campaign to change these plans. Jim finishes the
motorbike work. Ivy demands that Gail marry Martin.

???? - Wednesday 16 May 1990
Gail and Martin argue about whether they should marry. Bet and
Alec are summoned to the brewery - Alec believes they are to be
dismissed because of Bet's stirring up the regulars over the planned
changes, but Nigel just wants to show them the blueprints. Jenny
and Felicity have a roommates' quarrel. Deirdre gets a second
letter from the estate agent offering to buy her house at above
the market value for an undisclosed client. Emily thinks it could
be Ken, but Deirdre finds this unlikely. Jack finally wheedles
Jim into agreeing to let him drive the newly-finished bike, "just
around the block". He sets off with Vera, and comes back
half an hour later, pushing the bike and with a police-car escort.
He was caught speeding, and the bike was unlicensed and untaxed,
so Jim is in trouble, too.

Non-regular cast: Nigel Ridley JOHN BASHAM PC Nailor PHIL HEARNE
???? - Friday 18 May 1990
Jack and Jim fume over responsibility for the motorbike escapade.
PC Nailor reads them out, but says they've decided not to prosecute
and advises Jim to get rid of the bike--which he does: he sells
it to PC Nailor for £800! Alec tells Nigel that he and Bet
would really rather not see the Rovers converted into "Yankees".
Nigel tells him that N"won't force things on you," and
"neither I nor the brewery would ever force you into a situation
you were unhappy with." Felicity has agreed, without consulting
Jenny, to let a mutual acquaintance, Rodney Whitworth, kip on
the settee until he can make arrangements (he has been evicted).
Jenny says "no, absolutely not", but when she returns
from the disco, Rodney is there. Mr Simpson, the estate agent,
stops by Deirdre's to reiterate the offer from his still anonymous
client, and to raise the offer to £5,000 over the normal
value of her house.

Bet convinces Alec to lock up the Rovers in protest. N & R
send a replacement manager, Mr Smedley, but Bet sends him packing.
Later, Nigel Ridley himself shows up in high dudgeon, and Bet
ejects him as well, with the aid of a draught excluder.
