The worst kept secret in soap history oozed out this week when Stella revealed she was Leanne's real mum.  Peter had found a photo of Leanne in Stella’s purse and when questioned, she crumbled by the teapot in the Rovers' back room.  Finding out that your mother's an ex-EastEnders slapper is hard enough for anyone to take and it all comes out at Leanne's 30th birthday in the pub.  Leanne tells Stella that she wants her to leave, so Stella tells Steve she's going and starts to pack up in the pub. That is, until Peter makes Stella realize she's taking the easy way out, running out on her daughter, again, and so she decides to stay. Whether Leanne will decide to thaw towards her mum remains to be seen. Relationships remain decidedly frosty for now.

Meanwhile, Fiz gets her collar felt by the fuzz and she's arrested and charged for murdering Colin Fishwick.  I have no sympathy, really, she should've been arrested months ago for marrying John in the first place. Anyway, Fiz is denied bail and little Hope is left with the Croppers to mind while Chesney cracks up on losing his sister and Fiz breaks down in her prison cell bunk. Better get used to it, we're going to have crying and wailing for weeks.

At Roof and Refuge, there's a charity auction to raise charity funds.  The event's held at Nick's Bistro and the movers and shakers of the Weatherfield world  are bidding to win luxury items such as Deirdre's hand made pottery vase and a month of brunches at the caff.  Carla gets her head turned by psycho Frank when he bids £500 to win her a handbag that looks like it's only worth two bob and a half.

Anna's worried about losing her home when she finds out the owners are selling it and she can't get a mortgage. Never mind, Owen steps in that very same day announcing he's bought the house and she can stay on as his tenant.  Anna's grateful as it means by keeping the house the social services will let her keep Faye, she just doesn't realize yet just how much of a control freak landlord Owen will be.

And in Gail's house, it's shopping bags at dawn as Gail and Kylie go to war in the battle to feed David. In a fantastic shot, Kylie's at one of the street with her Freshco bags and Gail's at the other. Which woman will be first to get their goodies in the oven and into David's tum?  Kylie of course, she's younger, she's faster, she's got barbeque food.  Gail's not best pleased, as you can imagine, and she tuts over the garden fence from Sally's place when Kylie and David get frisky al-fresco. "Me mam loves a good moan," says David. "It's one of her five a day."

And that's just about that for this week.

This week's writers were Jayne Hollinson, Julie Jones, Ellen Taylor, Jan McVerry and Mark Burt. Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at:

It's fair to say that Gail and daughter-in-law Kylie aren't getting on that well. "She's a Tasmanian devil in a push-up bra!"snorts Gail when tensions grow in the Plat household.  It's Ivy all over again and great fun to watch. David wants his mam to look after both him and his wife, and Gail's at her wits end as neither of the young ‘uns do anything in return around the house for being cooked and cleaned for.  "We're all women, we gotta stick together," says Kylie to Audrey in the salon at work.  "I'm a feminist, me.”  Audrey arches her perfectly manicured brows and invokes Mrs Pankhurst. "Is she me first client this morning?"asks Kylie.

Anyway women and men are much on Audrey's mind this week as she decides to give Marc the benefit of the doubt and turns up as his house to tell him she's ready to be more than just friends. Trouble is, Marc's in full Marcia mode, all made up and ready to go out on the tiles. Reluctantly, Audrey agrees to go with him and meets one of Marc's mates, Aaron/Anthea who's there with his wife Christine/Christine. Audrey and Christine have a good long chat about fellas who wear frocks and it's clear that Audrey's fallen for Marc.

In a cold prison cell, Fiz sits and cries and as we're going to be in with this for  the next few weeks I'll probably just recycle this line in every weekly update until she gets freed, which you know of course she will.  Meanwhile little baby Hope's being looked after with care by the Croppers. And Chesney defends his sister against Norris' nosiness by sticking a cream cake in nosy Norris' face. Wonderful stuff.

Kev's unwilling to loan the Roof and Refuge charity any cash so Sophie logs into his bank account online and moves twenty grand of his lottery cash to the couple who are running the place. Only trouble is, they go and do a runner, taking Kevin's money with them. It's fair to say Sophie is beside herself with guilt and Kev's not best pleased either. Well, you wouldn't be, would you? The cops are called but Kev can't bring himself to dob Sophie in so he tells the fuzz that he transferred the funds as he argues with Sally over Sophie.

Over at the Barlow's, James is embroiled in the missing money misery and it's becoming clear he's not as innocent as we first thought. He meets with the fella who did the runner with Kev's cash and gets his share of it, a measly three thousand pounds when James wanted more.  Back at the house, Ken tells his grandson that he believes in his innocent. "What's mine is yours,"he tells him as James takes more than a passing interest in the bricks and mortar of Number 1.

Elsewhere, the lovely Amber returned from University for the summer, much to Dev's delight and Sunita's chagrin.  "You look better with some weight on yer,"says Amber to Sunita, making it clear where things lie between them both. Tommy Dickworth, sorry Duckworth, gives Amber the glad eye but she's having none of him yet anyroad and as she's a smart lass, let's hope she won't.

And finally, there's a new baby Barlow on the way when Leanne tells Peter she's pregnant.

And that's just about that for this week.

Greetings and welcome to the Coronation Street Weekly Update. And so without any further ado, here we go with this week'soronation Street update.

Tracy goes for an interview at the florist shop in the precinct, leaving little Amy at home with Uncle James who hushes little Amy when a surveyor comes and inspects the Barlow residence at James' request. He threatens Amy if she tells anyone that there was a man in the house when everyone else was out, her mum'll go back to prison and everyone she's ever loved will just disappear. Amy spills the beans eventually to her mum which fuels Tracy's suspicions that James is up to no good (he's not). Not only has he had the Barlow house surveyed and valued, he's now awaiting the cheque so he can naff off with the equity from his grandad's house leaving Ken and Deirdre high and dry. Ooh, he's a bad ‘un, that James (he is). One of the best scenes of the week was Tracy playing her tapes, singing along to Bros… "when will I, will I be famous... when will I get my picture in the papers…?" When you twonk your boyfriend over the head with an ornament and get put away in the big house for manslaughter for 15 years, Tracy-luv, that's when.

Over at the factory it's all go when Sally steps up to the supervisor role as Hayley's at home looking after baby Hope. Carla and Frank need someone in charge as they plan a romantic tryst to Rome leaving the girls and Sean at their machines. Yes, Carla and Frank are now An Item although Carla still wants to get into Peter's pants and snogs him upstairs in the flat while Leanne lays in hospital. But let's rewind just a bit. Leanne in hospital, you say? She and Peter argued about Carla, of course, and after Peter stormed out of the flat Leanne went after him, lost her footing at the top of the stairs and tumbled to the bottom. The impact of the fall made her miscarry their baby and as she lies in her hospital bed, heartbroken, Peter's fighting off Carla's advances in the Barlow marital home. He tries, he really does, and eventually, but not as decisively as Corrie fans up and down the country would have liked, he tells Carla to leave him alone and the he heads for the hospital to see his broken wife. Stella's also in there quick sharp, catching Leanne when she's at her weakest, offering her a brittle-snap hug and pretending it's motherly love.

Speaking of which, there's two types of mothering going on at Roy's Rolls. We've got Hayley looking after baby Hope while Fiz is in pris, and Sylvia and Roy finally building bridges and making amends for years of neglecting each other. It's wonderful stuff to watch and extremely well acted by all. Watching Roy change baby Hope's nappy, wearing his yellow marigolds was a joy.

Sean wants his fifteen minutes of fame this week, for son Dylan at least, when he spots a Face of Freshco competition for kids aged 4 or under. Problem is, he can't take the time off work to take Dylan to the photo shoot so Marcus takes the kid instead, the photographer takes a fancy to Marcus and Dylan's through to the final of the Face of Freshco, soon to appear on a TV ad. But when Sean's found out that Dylan's going to be famous without him, he throws a strop, barges into the photoshoot and ends up being thrown out. Marcus and Dylan walk out in support and Sean's pushy dad routine almost ruins the family unit.

And finally this week, Owen Armstrong becomes Anna's new landlord when he buys the house from Jerry Morton (remember him?) for a knock-down price. I don't like the glint in Owen's nasty eyes when Anna invites him for tea. No, I don't like it, one little bit.

And that's just about that for this week.

This week's writers were David Lane, Debbie Oates, Jayne Hollinson, Joe Turner and John Kerr. Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at: http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.com/2008/11/exclusive-all-current-corrie-writers.html

First off folks, I don't usually do this but this deserves a special mention. If you're a fan of Coronation Street cabbie controller Fat Brenda, you might like to know you can see her in the flesh, on stage, in a one-woman show at The Harrogate Theatre, Yorkshire in April 2012. Full details are here.

Mikey North, the actor who plays Gary Windass, has played a blinder this week. Gary is still going through post traumatic stress disorder after his short stint in the army and the death of his mate Quinny.  Pretending to be ok is a recipe for disaster when he goes into meltdown back on civvy street. He takes his role as protector of Izzy just a little further than she would like after he gets a packing job in the factory as the new man in ladies pants.  But when Izzy wants a night out on her own without Gary, she's mugged at a cashpoint and is thrown from her wheelchair. When Gary finds out, he goes ballistic and thumps Sean by the beer pumps, giving him a black eye, taking his anger out on totes the wrong man. Ooh, I've said totes. Get me.  Anyway, Izzy's fine, just shaken, not stirred and determined to get on with her life despite a few bruises from the mugging attack.  But Gary's not having it. He pretends he's taking her wheelchair in to get fixed but leaves it in his van, making Izzy a prisoner in her own home.  He closes the blinds in Izzy's flat, tells her he'll protect her from the bad ‘uns outside her front door, turns off the lights and locks her indoors. Izzy is beside herself with worry and after Chesney and Katy come calling at her door, and Gary tells them Izzy's asleep and doesn't want to see them, Katy tells dad Owen who goes round to the flat and kicks the door in.  Owen finds Izzy cowering in the corner of her bedroom with Gary protecting her, but it's clear he's suffering as much as poor Iz is.  "Help me," he cries out to Owen. "Help me."  And there wasn't a dry eye in our house, I can tell you.

Over at the Barlows'. Deirdre runs a bath for Ken and puts fresh batteries in his waterproof radio but it's not enough to get Ken out of his stupor and his dressing gown. He's been betrayed by grandson James after he found out that James had taken out a loan of £50k on his house. Ken finds the cheque and confronts James who knocked Ken against the wall, battering the Barlow. It's left to Rita and Dennis to take Ken out to the pub and into the land of the living to cheer him right up.

In the back room of the Rovers, Steve settles himself on the sofa for an afternoon of misery with The Smiths and Scotch. He's feeling sorry for himself when he finds out that Becky's gone to Crete with a fella called Clarkey. I know a fella called Clarkey, he's a painter and decorator, but I digress.  Tracy's straight in there trying to cheer Steve up and invites him for tea chez Barlow. She even irons the tablecloth in readiness for his visit to tea. What she has in store for dessert is anyone's guess. Actually, it's everyone's guess and we'd all guess it right and Steve, as we know, will get it horribly wrong.

And over at Bessie Street Infants, Julie takes little Dylan to a pre-school reading as neither Marcus nor Sean are free.  Julie's loving playing mum to the son she's never had and so when another mother thinks that Dylan's her real kid, Julie does nowt to contradict her.  However, the teacher giving the reading turns out to be Brian and Julie comes over all peculiar as she stares into his eyes while he reads out The Cat in the Hat. Sadly for Julie, Brian tells her he didn't realise that she was a mum and that she'd be best off without him. Julie's too dumbstruck to reply and goes home to Sean for a  cry.

And that's just about that for this week.
