Don't you just love soap?  In half an episode, Bill Webster returned after months away, declared his love for Aunty Pam and told everyone he was going to wed her then he fell down flat with a heart attack, ended up in intensive care – and all before the adverts came on.  Bill in hospital, however, was the catalyst for getting Kevin all mushy-eyed and loved up on red wine with Sally on the sofa. A kiss on the lips later and they're upstairs renewing acquaintance again until the morning after when Kev's taking it for granted that he's back with Sally and flings his overalls at her for a hot wash.  Sally is not best pleased, tells Kev to stuff it and chucks him and baby Jack out before waltzing to the Bistro with boyfriend Jeff.   Kev's attempts to woo his wife back with a bottle of plonk and a cheap bouquet from Dev's shop fail to have the required result.

But never fear, there's more canoodling across the cobbles as Anna and Owen get to spend more time together, which is kind of nice to see but would be even better if Eddie's side of the bed had been allowed to cool down.  And if Owen didn't have such a particularly nasty streak stamped through him and you know it's going to get stamped all over Anna sometime soon.

Over at Carla's flat, she overdoses on sleeping pills but manages to ring Peter for help before she slips into a coma. It's all been Peter and Carla this week, with Leanne giving Peter ultimatums and hard stares.  Doesn't she know he was once a bigamist and therefore having two women on the go is playing to his strengths? If she'd read these weekly updates you see, she'd have known to stay well clear of me laddo.  Anyway, Carla moves in with Maria and little Liam and Kirk moves out and moves in with Ches.

Actually, do you know what? There's not been much else happened this week.  I've just had to check my notes that I scribble on auto-pilot while watching the Street, to see if there's owt that I've missed and there's not. Well, there was Chris and Russ and Lloyd and Cheryl struggling and failing to get along but that's been so dull we'll give that a miss.  And there's been Steve and Tracy and Becky but that's trundling along doing nowt much either, so we'll give that a miss too and you can all go home. Class dismissed.

And that's just about that for this week.

This week's writers were Julie Jones, Joe Turner, Damon Rochefort and David Lane.  Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at:

It's Eileen Grimshaw's 50th birthday this week and she's got a face like a wet weekend in Weatherfield. In serious need of cheering up at getting old, she registers with an online dating agency but only after Rosie has photoshopped Eileen's picture so she looks all sleek and wrinkle free and her face resembles a new salad potato.  Anyway, Eileen doesn't get a date from the internet but she does end up having dinner in the Bistro with the fireman who comes to rescue her when she gets her head stuck in the railings on the roof of Underworld.  What was she doing up there in the first place? I hear you ask, well, I'll tell you seeing as though you asked so politely. The factory girls had put up a huge banner announcing to the world that it was Eileen's big Five-O. Horrified to see it, Eileen went up there and tried to take it down and got her head stuck in the process. But at least she did get to meet a man on her big day which is pretty much what she wanted.  Gail's jealous as sin on finding out nemesis Eileen has managed to bag a man: “Been hanging around outside the one o'clock club, have you?”
Over at Weatherfield General there's a bombshell dropped when the ultrasound confirms two heartbeats - it's twins for Tracy and Steve! She's not sure she can cope with two more babies as well as Amy and in what appeared to be a genuine plea to Steve, Tracy tells him she's going to have an abortion, she can't cope with being a single parent to three kids. Steve does the right thing and tells her he'll stick by her but it's not enough for our Tracy, she always wants more, and this time she gets it when Steve agrees to be her fella and they are now officially an item. I'd love to see these two get wed in the nastiest, cheesiest McBar Corrie wedding that's ever been seen.  In the church, Steve's mum Liz can seethe at her son's side. Deirdre can wear a mad fascinator, little Amy can be bridesmaid and Ken can fall asleep.   Now that Tracy and Steve are together, she tries and fails to lord it over Stella in the pub.  I've still not warmed to Stella at all, not one little bit, and I've tried really hard, really I have. But if there was one way that Corrie could get us fans to like Stella, it'd be to have her clamp down, and hard, on toxic Tracy-luv, ‘cos someone has got to.
Carla's still staying at Maria's flat and gets a visit from Stella who shares news with her that she too was raped. She gives Carla some wise advice, to get back on her life, the sooner the better. Fired up after their talk, Carla swans back into work only to find Frank's evil mum acting as his proxy for his 40% share in Underworld now that Frank's been released out on bail. “"'ll be watching you, ladeh!" I think (hoped) she told Carla.
At Lloyd and Cheryl's, Chris gets some good news from the hospital although needs another scan to confirm if he's getting better or not. Does he share this good news? No he does not, in fact he pretends he's getting worse so that Cheryl will feel sorry for him and he can get back with her. His evil plan looks like it just might work too. What a nasty piece of work he is. Wrong move of the week though, Corrie – when Lloyd and Cheryl were sharing a tender moment on their sofa in the house, the soundtrack was all wrong. There is no way in high heaven that Lloyd would ever listen to Simply Red, not in a million years.
Over at the Barlow's, it's Ken's 72nd birthday and Deirdre's present is a hand-made pottery gift where Ken can put his nuts. “They're peanut bowls!” she shrieks in delight as she dances around the living room to Hooked on Classics in a wonderful little scene.
And that's just about that for this week.
This week's writers were Peter Whalley, Chris Fewtrell, Jonathan Harvey and Ellen Taylor. Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at: http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.com/2008/11/exclusive-all-current-corrie-writers.html

Greetings and welcome to the Coronation Street Weekly Update. I won't be here next week with the update as I'm off to be wed as we've been living over the brush for over a decade and you know, let's face it, I'm not getting any younger.  While I'm away next week your weekly update writer will be top man Richard Whitbread, who I can't thank enough. And so without any further ado, here we go with this week's Coronation Street update.

There's chaos in the comping world when Norris and Mary dream up slogans to enter a cough medicine competition.  Norris doesn't like Mary's poetic musings and she bins the piece of paper where she's scribbled her thoughts, only for Sylvia in the café to pick it up and enter it in her own name. Roy isn't best pleased at his mother's dishonesty, neither are Mary and Norris when they found out what Sylvia's gone and done.

Over at Underworld, Frank sends his mother in acting as his poxy proxy and she strips out the fixtures and fittings taking 40% of everything she and her hench mob can lay their nasty fingers on. This leaves Carla with nothing to work with and she lays off her staff.  There's a wonderful scene when she sacks Sally. "But this job, it's the only thing that's, well, mine," cries Sally with tears in her eyes.

Anyway, Sally's tears dry soon enough when Frank's mum Anne poaches Sally and she sets to work for Frank. It's another blow to Carla who's already been beaten down by the cops for harassing Frank when all she did was go round there to complain about him nicking half the factory machines.

Meanwhile, Sally gets jiggy with Jeff and he starts staying overnight, much to Sophie and Kevin's dismay.

Eileen gets warm and cosy with fireman Paul and he stays the night at her place after a night on the sofa with the red wine. What she doesn't know yet is that Marcus has spotted Paul in Frescho with another woman, a woman that he hugged and kissed and could well be his wife.

Elsewhere, there's cuddles on the cobbles when Matt takes Tina to a dinner dance and insists he takes her out to buy a posh frock. Tommy thinks Tina's going to get sick of Matt and he hovers at her elbow's edge, just in case she changes her mind about dating a dishy doctor and falls in lust with a greasy, thick, grease monkey instead.

Also, Tyrone tells Kirsty that he's falling fall her after revealing the truth about Molly, Kev and little baby Jack.  She seems like she's got her head on the right way round, does Kirsty, but she and Tina keep having a dig at each other, putting Tyrone in the middle, where he never likes to be.

And that's just about that for this week.

This week it was a good week for the lady writing team of Debbie Oates, Julie Jones, Jayne Hollinson with Damon Rochefort and Martin Allen.  Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at:

John Stape reappeared on the Street this week and then he went and died. But not before he gave this Corrie fan a right good chuckle when he kidnapped Rosie Webster for the second, and last time. To be kidnapped once by Stape is unfortunate. To be kidnapped twice is simply careless. He ties her up in the flat and with the help of charts and diagrams, forces Rosie to take in as much information as possible about his three murders so that she can be of some help in getting Fiz out of pris. She's no help to anyone, but that's by the by. It was a wonderful scene, with John marking Rosie's homework in red pen while blaming her for starting it all. Jason and Kevin soon figure out Rosie's missing and burst in through the door. John escapes and scarpers off in his car at top speed with Kevin close behind. John's car crashes and he's rushed to th'ospickle where he later dies, but not before giving the cops a full confession. Will it be too late to save Fiz who's been sent down for 15 years for killing Charlotte? Fiz asks Chesney to organise John's funeral, and to his credit, Ches refuses to put the murdering no mark to rest. Ah, but all he ever wanted to do was teach.

In Roy's Rolls, Sylvia's over the moon when she finds out she's won a cruise in the competition that she entered with Mary's slogan. Mary, as you can imagine, is not best pleased. Roy refuses to be drawn in but makes it clear to his mother that he's not that happy with her either.

Over at Underworld, Carla undercuts Frank in underpants to win an order for knickers that'll have the girls and Sean on overtime in no time. How they'll finish the order in time with no machines, no material and few staff remains to be seen but Carla wasn't going to let Frank win the deal.

Julie and Brian move into the flat above the butchers. It's a move that lifts up their lust level and they set about making babies after they unpack the kettle.

Chris continues to pretend that he's dying (doncha just love soap?) in order to sweetheart Cheryl and get back his family. Poor Lloyd doesn't know what's going on but he ain't going to be happy when he finds out.

And that's just about that for this week. Janet Waterhouse will be here next week.

This week's writers were Joe Turner, John Kerr, Carmel Morgan, Jan McVerry, David Lane and Ellen Taylor. Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at:
