It’s the first week since Phelan’s death and there’s been a lighter side to Corrie that I enjoyed in a way I haven’t done for months. Nicola and Michelle are released from hospital after being caught up in the bloodbath in the bistro when Phelan met his maker. Nicola doesn’t want Gary to see baby Zack, blaming him for bringing Phelan back to the Street, but that doesn’t stop Gary from claiming his child and declaring himself the Street’s best dad *cough, remember your other son, Jake, you never see? cough*.
In an attempt to clear the Platt family of the Richard Hillman curse, Gail seeks out psychic Rosemary again. Rosemary wants a few thousand pounds to give Gail a private reading and Gail applies online for a loan. “If I can’t get a loan then I’ll pawn me wedding rings!” she cries. Audrey, Roy and Cathy insist on going with Gail to the psychic afternoon, determined to out Rosemary as the fraud they know she is. Gullible Gail has the scales lifted from her eyes when Roy finds out that Rosemary’s psychic strings are being pulled by none other than conman Lewis Archer! Roy wrestles Lewis to the ground, intending to make a citizen’s arrest in a truly wonderful scene. On the ground with Roy sitting on him, all Lewis can do is smile up at Audrey and tell her how wonderful it is to see her again. Left alone with Lewis in his car, he sweet talks Audrey into letting him get away scot-free and sends her a text later to tell her he still loves her. Oh, there’s no fool like an old fool, Audrey. Who’s the gullible one now?
Meanwhile, Kirk has got himself involved with a young woman called Sharon whose dog he’s walking for her. As Sharon’s young and pretty, Tyrone advises Kirk to lie to Beth and tell her that Sharon’s an old woman so that Beth doesn’t get jealous. All goes well until Sharon starts falling for Kirk, asks him to go shopping with her (he does). She also gives him a bag of clothes that used to belong to her ex-fella and he starts wearing one of his suits. Beth’s none the wiser, at the minute, but it’ll all come out in the wash, especially when Kirk accompanies Sharon to Speed Daal where she tells him she’s waiting for a date. But the date never comes and then she admits to Kirk that she wanted to spend time with him because she likes him.
Less enjoyable this week was Rosie Webster’s leaving storyline which felt as if it had been written on the back of a Newton and Ridley beermat. In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, Rosie got involved in something to do with a bag of drugs. Or was it icing sugar? Anyway, Craig wrestles the drug dealer to the ground, Gemma helps Rosie get the drugs and the three of them are rewarded by an interview on ITV’s This Morning for their good work (aka yet another ITV cross-promotional plug). While at the studios, Rosie is approached by a chap who wants her to head to Japan to join a game show. This she does - and off she goes. Sayonara. Tara.
And finally, Adam tells Jenny and Carla that if they want to keep the factory from being willed to Alya, as per Aidan’s wishes, they have to say that Aidan wasn’t of sound mind when he made the will. Before she leaves for Japan, Rosie photocopies Aidan’s will in the office, leaves it there by mistake and Imran finds it. He immediately goes to Alya to tell her the truth, that Underworld is hers. Oh dear. I can’t see the Connors taking this well, can you?
