Ken takes Peter to an AA meeting where the group greets Ken. “Hi, Ken!” they chime. “Hi!” Ken replies, quickly adding. “I’m not an alcoholic, by the way.” But his son Peter most definitely is and there’s a touching scene when Peter begs Ken not to leave him on his own in the house at No. 1 because if he’s left alone, he knows he’ll turn to drink.

Up in Victoria Court, Toyah decides to take the sheets off Leanne and Nick’s bed (and I’m still all ‘urgh’ about this). Under the bed she finds the stolen Health and Safety report that was nicked from Wayne’s car. Nick’s nicked, taken in for questioning and is suspect number one in the factory roof collapse. My money’s on Adam Barlow, wanting revenge on the Connors for taking the factory he always felt was rightfully his.

Sally’s determined to make Tim’s diet heart-healthy, whether he wants it or not. She cooks a vegan dinner but is disheartened to find Tim has been buying crisps and sugary snacks on the sly.

Elsewhere this week, there’s a mix-up over Jan the Polish builder. Mary fancies him, as does Moira and Eileen’s keeping her thoughts to herself for now. Jan doesn’t want to upset Mary by telling her he’s not interested in her, so instead he invents a dead wife to put her off him, saying he’ll never get over his heartbreak at losing his loved one, the light of his life. Jan tells this to Eileen who tells Moira who passes it back to Mary who dumps Jan before they even get started.

But Mary’s got more on her mind when Emily’s niece Freda arrives at No. 3 with news from Norris. He’s in a silent retreat in Shepton Mallett, apparently. Freda tells Mary that Norris wants a divorce and is selling what was Emily’s house too.

Pregnant Gemma threatens to run away and Rita’s distraught enough to tell Chesney the truth, that Gemma is carrying his baby. Chesney finds Gemma on the streets with her bring pink pull-along suitcase and begs her to come home. After much deliberation, Gemma does indeed go home, but not to Chesney. She cuddles up on Rita’s sofa and it was a lovely sight indeed.

And that’s just about that for this week.
