It's been a bumper week in Weatherfield this week as the year turned and a new decade started. Although, if Roy Cropper was here, he’d explain that the new decade hasn’t yet started, it’s in its final year. But I’m not Roy. And so off we go with events from the cobbles this week and it’s been a rather refreshing week. After Christmas week’s shootout and dopey Derek dying, we also lost Robert, the dullest man in soap who was also killed. And not just that but Michelle Connor left too. Now, I don’t mind Michelle and I never have but without her, you soon realise how much of the action had featured on her over the last few months. And now it doesn’t and other characters get their chance to shine. It’s been a good week indeed.

Tracy ends up in bed with Paula this week after Tracy gets drunk in the Rovers and falls into Paula’s arms after an argument with Steve. Paula tells Tracy she’s got the night on her own after her kids (her kids?) are elsewhere and Tracy tells Paula she’s had some lady loving before when she was banged up in the big house for killing Charlie Stubbs. She has? Well, it’s news to this fan. But I don’t care because these two together were always going to be fun to watch. Except they weren’t sadly. It all fell a bit flat. Amy finds out where her mum slept on New Year’s Eve, and who with, and is so ashamed of Tracy that she moves out of the flat and in with Emma and Bethany. Maria’s moving out to live with Gary in a flat in Victoria Court even though she knows the truth about him being a loan shark and gangster. If Gary is the street’s Tony Soprano then Maria is the new moll although she’ll never be no Carmela.

Elsewhere Abi and Kevin try and fail to get together on a date. They’re both up for it until Kevin overhears Abi telling Eileen that she sees Kev as a safe date rather than a sexy beast. But she also tells Eileen that’s exactly what she’s looking for. Unfortunately, Kev doesn’t hear this bit and wants nothing to do with Abi, assuming he’s not her type after all. Abi chucks herself at horrible Ray who now owns the Bistro and there’s a wonderfully funny scene when Sally catches them at it in her living room.

At Weatherfield General, Shona’s still in her coma. David’s called to court to testify in the rape trial against Josh Tucker.

And Jade continues her plan to turn Hope against Fiz and get Fiz into trouble too. Jade takes Hope to the hospital after she falls and hurts her arm, but she gets Hope to lie to the nurse, saying that a door slammed on her arm and that’s how she hurt it. When Fiz arrives, she’s confused by the conflicting story and so is the nurse, whose face flickers with doubt over who’s telling the truth. It’s Jade’s intention to get Fiz into trouble, marked out as a child abuser, and so far Jade’s evil plan is on track. Only Evelyn – and Corrie fans up and down the country – are on to Jade and are screaming “Kick her out!” of Tyrone and Fiz’s house. Jade even takes Hope to visit John Stape’s grave and tells her they’re sisters.

And that’s just about that for this week.
