I was born in Beith Ayrshire but moved to Manchester (Salford really) at an early age. After leaving school at 15 I went to work down the coal mines (Bradford Colliery on Grey Mare Lane.) I left the mine after about three years and was immediately called up for National Service.

Because of my Scottish heritage I ended up doing 3 years with The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Two years of which were spent in Cyprus having some argy bargy with a group called EOKA.

I met my missus on a weekend trip to Blackpool. Couldn't resist her. Here we are, 41 years later half a world away from Salford but fortunately still together. We are blessed with three wonderful grand children who think its the greatest thing in the world to come over and play Toonstruck on the puter with Granddad.

I have lived in Canada since 1965 and I can only say that this country has been very good to me and mine even though I do bitch constantly about the level of taxation.

My favourite pastime here is clay bird shooting and in the fall I go hunting for moose, deer and ducks. Something I dont think I would ever be able to afford to do in the UK.

I have been a fan of Corrie right from day one and in fact the original opening scene was of a real street near the junction of Oldfield road and Ordsall lane. It was called Unwin street I think, Its long since been razed. For a short while I worked as a coalman and actually delivered coal down that same street.

When we first arrived in Canada we missed a few years as the show was on in the afternoon and we both had to work outside the home. The situation would be unchanged today except for that marvellous tool, The VCR. My most favourite episode, even to this day is the one where it was Christmas and Derek got locked in the factory where he worked and he climbed out on to the roof in a Santa Claus suit only to be seen by Jack Duckworth who was just arriving home from a boozing session at the Legion. Jack swore of booze for several episodes until he found out it was only Derek up there.

My other great love of Manchester of course is Man Utd. I went to my first game when I was 6 and it was at Maine Rd. because Old Trafford was still in ruins from wartime bombings. Thanks to satellite telly I do manage to still see a few of their games.
