Diane Johnston

Hi! I'm TVOR, Diane Johnston. Since you asked, TVOR stands for The Voice Of Reason, a nickname I acquired by having two friends whose tendency to impulsive behaviour counterbalanced my one foot on the ground "anchor" of our terrible triad! Yes I admit I'm sensible. But not boring I hope!

I've been a Corrie fan for 10 years, my earliest memories are of the Alan Bradley stalking Rita storyline and the aftermath of the death of RBrian. I have seen older episodes on video and read anniversary books and other Corrie related books. I found ratucs about three years ago and started on #coro_street about 2 years ago. I've been lucky enough to meet many of my fellow Corrie net fans via pings here where I live (more on that in a minute) and also in Toronto and Ottawa.

I just reached the milestone of 40 (1999) and live in Halifax Nova Scotia, by the sea! I'm divorced and have no children to interrupt my Corrie watching. Not that that makes much difference as my mother more likely than not will call 15 minutes before the end of the two hour omnibus on a Sunday morning! I enjoy my Sunday routine with my tea, my newspaper and Corrie for 2 hours!

Corrie memories?

Well, my favourite characters over the years I've been watching are Rita, Jack, Vera, Jim, Bet, Mavis, Curly, Raquel and Roy. I enjoy a lot of the others as well but these are the ones I always looked for.

My least favourites are Ken Barlow, Derek Wilton, Norris Cole.

I enjoy most of the characters or at the very least am indifferent. Our Canadian Cable station WTN is showing older Corrie episodes, starting from 1989. We are now up to mid 1991 where Mike is about to marry Jackie Ingram. I write episode updates of these shows, twice a week this season though I did them all last year. I don't know how I managed, now! I must say that since I've been on the net and interacting with other corrie fans, their opinions have often influenced mine.

Now, getting to watch the episodes from the early 90's, even though I saw them before, I have a new appreciation for the quirky and eccentric characters and character "teams". I now enjoy Reg Holdsworth where i found him just plain absurd the first time around. I now like Mavis much more and i know i'm going to be quite a bit fonder of Raquel and her ups and downs. Still detest Ken and Derek though.

My absolute favourite storyline was the Des/Tanya/Raquel/Bet/Charlie storyline in the mid 90's.

I enjoyed Deirdre's break up with Ken in an unhappy sort of way. I had a similar experience, and I empathised with Deirdre's gamut of emotions all the way from shock to bitterness to anger to acceptance.

The storyline that culminated in Jack thumping his son Terry for selling their grandson to the other grandparents was touching too!

I pretty much never liked any major storyline Derek was involved in, from the Gnomenapping to the Mile muncher!

Anyway, I could go on and on but I won't. come chat on #coro sometime if you want more details or swap memories...

Diane
