Ron O' Brien

Ron O Brien is ratucs's man in Showbiz. Ron is our window into the world of 'luvvies' and with his inside knowledge has been able to fill us on many of the practices of the CS casting dept etc. Ron also knows which CS cast member 'is' on the Internet but has sworn secrecy!

Here's Ron in his own words.

Born Chester at the same time Bill Haley was Rockin' around the clock! (what do you mean who is Bill Haley!). BTW I'm not sure if I have spelt *Haley* right - I couldn't spell at that age :-)

I now live in Luton, but am applying to the parole board to see if I can get out soon.

Left school in 1970 to work in the photographic business. In 1983 I took over the running of an actors and model theatrical & casting agency. Since 1987, my efforts at providing food on the table have concentrated more on Castcall, a casting information service I run, and on the casting of corporate videos / training films / commercials etc etc. - Sounds more glamorous and fun than it actually is!

I remember seeing the very first episode of Coronation Street. I had the mumps at the time, hence the reason for being up so late! I thought Ena Sharples was a real old bag.

I have a number of fav characters: Hilda & Stan, Eddie (without Marion!), Albert Tatlock and Minnie Caldwell with Jed Stone immediately spring to mind from the golden era.

Now, I think I have to say that Jack Duckworth ranks high. Sir Royston a close second. Reg was brilliant and Maude a fine contender for him. For obvious reasons I feel I must mention Maxine ($%&*^%$ - sorry, a sudden rush of hormone shot through me).

Worst characters have to include: Shamir, Mr Rashid, and Dreary's last husband (!) - in that order. Previously I never liked Susie Birchill.
