Romy Baskerville was born in Essex and trained at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In a career that has spanned over twenty years she has appeared on stage in The Threepenny Opera, The Ruling Class, Equus, The Hostage, Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, Night Must Fall, Bingo and The Tempest. She has worked in theatres including The Gateway, Chester, The Nottingham Playhouse, The Greenwich Theatre, Manchester's Library Theatre and The Dukes Theatre, Lancaster. She has also toured with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Romy has worked extensively in radio in plays such as Naked In The Sun, Marriage Blanc, Pere Goriot and Hulme Stories. On television she has played Sheila Anderson in The Andersons, Dr Marshall in Families, Dr Mills in Brookside, Pat in Waterfront Beat, Miss Paxon in Heartbeat, Enid in Coasting, Janet Cross in Chillers, Mrs Hobbs in Cracker and Mrs James in Circle of Deceit.

In 1989 she played Peter Reynold's secretary in Coronation Street before going on to play in The Bill. On 18 March 1991, Romy rejoined Coronation Street, this time she played headmistress Sue Jeffers, a role she played on and off until 14 March 1997.

Romy then played Madame Denart in Hettie Wainthropp Investigates, Francisca in Measure For Measure and Dr Littlefield in Prime Suspect 5.
