After her parents divorced, Sally Anne was brought up by her headmaster father. As a child Sally Ann joined the Oldham Theatre Workshop under director David Johnson.

Sally Ann's experience at the workshop included Marta in The Sound of Music, Narrator in Joseph, Blousey in Bugsy Malone and Becky in Tom Sawyer and Huck Fin. Other stage experience includes Duffy in Annie at the Tameside Theatre and Jennifer in Babes In Arms at The Grange Arts Centre.

In 1986 she joined Coronation Street as Jenny Bradley and played the role until 1992. She returned to the series briefly in 1993. After leaving The Street, Sally Ann played Pat in The Grove Family, a nurse in Stay Lucky, Lady Mullett in Brill, Paula in Heartbeat and Tracey in Missing Persons. More recently she appeared in the BBC series Hettie Wainthrop Investigates and Common As Muck. Sally Ann also appeared as a waitress in the film Brassed Off and in several Radio 4 plays.

Her stage work has included Aladdin, Dick Whittington, Jack & The Beanstalk, Slyvia's Wedding, The Suicide, Feed, Fur Coat No Knickers, My Fat Friend, Gaslight, Accrington Pals and Biloxi Blues. She has also presented The Giant Nativity Festival.

Sally Ann took her GCSE's whilst in Coronation Street and passed seven. She is single but has been romantically linked with Oldham Athletic players Norman Kelly and Michele Cecere. She lives in West Yorkshire.
