The Bannisters were a "slightly mad" couple from Cadishead
[near Urmston] who came to look round the Corner Shop after Alf and Renee
Roberts put it up for sale. The henpecked Mr Bannister had been
made redundant and was using his redundancy to buy the shop, Mrs
Bannister talked non-stop. The Roberts finally agreed to the Bannister's
offer of £15,000 - £1,000 below their asking price.
When Alf pulled out of the deal after Renee's death, Mr Bannister
was very understanding.
