Bert was a friend of Jack Duckworth's who sold Jack a dog - Boomer.
Bert was actually pulling a fast one on Jack - Boomer was short
for Boomerang, and no matter who Bert sold him to, he always returned
to Bert. Boomer managed to steal the Duckworth's Christmas dinner,
and whilst he trapped them upstairs, he ate the turkey. Later,
Boomer caused the Street's first fox hunt, involving Jack, Curly,
Bert, Boomer and the Wiltons 'pet' fox, which ended with Mavis
smashing Bert over the head with a frying pan.
