In reality, Ashley's parents were Fred Elliott and Kathleen, a young worker in the Elliott's old shop in Nelson Street; Fred fell for Kathleen a year after his wife Sybil died. After Kathleen literally left Fred holding the baby, Ashley was brought up by the Peacocks as their own son, never telling Ashley his true parentage.
