A friend of Vera Duckworth's mother - it was her dying wish that she looked after him. Joss was an inveterate liar and dreamer - so it was hard to seperate fact and fiction.

He claimed he was Vera's real father - but then again, he claimed that Edward VII was his grandfather and he had played darts in Oldham with Ghandi.

Vera fell for his stories hook, line and sinker - but Jack was never convinced. When Joss died in May 1991, she spent all her savings on ensuring he had a good funeral.
