Nicholas Wilding. (known as Uncle Nick to many)

Played by: Mark Lindley

Appeared: First Appeared: 1991. Shortly after the death of Vicky’s parents. Nick was called upon to deal with Vicky’s father’s probate and invested her inheritance.
Last appeared: Left the show in 1996, when Vicky left. Both Vicky and Nick came back for the Brighton Special in 1999.

Occupation: Solicitor. Partner at Vicky McDonald’s father’s law firm.

Family: No reference was ever made to Nick’s family. Good friend of the Arden family. Mr Arden owned law firm where Nick was partner. When Mr and Mrs Arden died, Nick became very close to Vicky, and her newly appointed guardians Alec Gilroy (her grandfather) and wife Bet, sorting out all her financial matters.

When Vicky Arden’s parents died in a car crash, in 1991, Nick was called in to deal with her father’s probate and invest her inheritance. From hereon in Nick dealt with Vicky’s finances, such as altering her allowance (when she, or more commonly Steve McDonald, needed more money) and transferring her inheritance on her 21st birthday.

In 1995 Alec Gilroy attempted to prevent Steve McDonald and Vicky marrying by falsely informing Steve that Vicky would lose her inheritance if she marries before 25. Alec then asked Nick to reinforce this message. Nick said he would not lie in this way, as he is a truthful and honest solicitor. When Vicky called Nick to see if Alec’s claims were true Nick informed her there was no such clause and she could marry before 25.

Christmas 1995, Vicky had bribed Malcolm Fox £5000 to tell the police husband Steve McDonald did not know the whisky he had bought was stolen, even though he did. The bribe worked and Steve was released. Nick warned Vicky that he knew what was going on and that if the police found out she would be in serious trouble.

Later on in 1996, the police found out about the bribe. As Nick warned, Steve and Vicky were arrested for Perverting the Course of Justice. When Steve alleged it was all Vicky’s idea, Nick persuaded her to tell the police that Steve made her do it and to give evidence against him. Nick represented her in court. Steve got a two-year sentence whereas Vicky got a one year suspended sentence.

Uncle Nick returned in 1999 in the Brighton Special and, standing in for the absent Alec Gilroy (who was working abroad on business), gave Vicky away at her wedding.
