After this, Alan turned from charming father to abusive boyfriend, and tried to kill her by smothering her with a pillow - but Martin Platt and Jenny rescued her just in time. Alan disappeared, and then tracked Rita down to Blackpool, and then the classic moment came when Alan met his end after being hit by a Blackpool tram in late 1989.
Fact: The Bradley demise pulled 26 million viewers, and was originally aired on ITV on 8 December 1989.

He then stole Alma's car and drove himself into the wall of the viaduct at high speed, dying in the ensuing explosion in 1997.

In revenge on Quigley, Jim attacked him - unfortunately, Jez punctured his own spleen and lung with a busted rib in hospital on 15 September 2000, meaning Jim had killed Jez. Jim escaped from prison in 2003, and attempted to escape to Ireland - fruitlessly, however.

Then, he smashed his ex in the face with a shovel on 20 May 2002, killing her in the process. He married Gail Platt in July 2002 - and tried to make her mum, Audrey Roberts, think that she was going mad. Richard burned down her house, but didn't kill Audrey. The car spiralled out of control, and smashed into a brick wall. Martin was pulled from the car to safety just before the vehicle exploded.

Maya Sharma
Fact: Arrived as a solicitor, a lawyer. Maya was so bad in her time on the Street that she almost made Richard seem OK compared to her. First, she killed Monica, Kirk's dog - then, she took Dev Alahan for a 90mph joyride, married six illegal immigrants under Sunita Parekh's name, and when all that didn't work, she burnt down all of Dev's shops. Maya apparently died after a lorry crashed into the back of her car during the flaming finale of the Corner Shop.

He fancied her and wooed her and persuaded her to accept his engagement ring, but she had fallen back in love with Liam Connor who was engaged to Maria. Tony was known to use bully tactics to get what he wanted. He'd already forced old Jed Stone out of his house in order to raze the houses on that street for redevelopment and he'd smoked out a colony of bats to do the same thing on Victoria Street for a block of posh flats, much to Roy Cropper's dismay. When he found out about Carla and Liam's affair, he arranged to have Liam run over and killed on the night of Tony's stag do. Carla ran away but returned to marry him. Jed Stone returned and Tony nearly killed him but managed to get him out of town. Not before Carla figured out there was a connection. Carla realized that Tony killed Liam and left him. Maria had always suspected Tony but was considered hysterical in her grief. Tony ended up convincing Maria that he was falling in love with her and her new baby, Liam Jr. and they would have been married if Carla hadn't returned and insisted that Tony leave Maria. Tony's life went downhill and after nearly killing Roy, he turned himself in. Some time later he engineered an escape from prison, took Carla and Hayley hostage in the factory and after letting Hayley go, set it on fire. He let Carla go at the last minute and went up in flames when the factory exploded.

Frank Foster
Fact: Frank was an Underworld client and persuaded Carla to let him buy into the factory. Are you spotting a trend here? He was ruthless and persued Carla who was in love with Peter Barlow who was married to Leanne. Still spotting that trend? Carla told Frank the night before their wedding that she loved Peter so Frank raped her. During the trial, Frank's mother made sure Leanne saw the photos of Carla and Peter together and that marraige blew up. Peter moved in with Carla. Frank was not convicted of rape but later turned up dead in the factory. Did Peter do it? Did Carla? No, it turned out his mother did it when she realized he really was a rapist and that the stress over thinking their "innocent" son was going through a trial caused her husband to die of a heart attack. She lashed out with a heavy bottle out of anger and it killed Frank.

Karl Munro
Fact: Feckless Karl was Stella Price's partner. They moved to the Street when Stella wanted to look up her long lost daughter, Leanne, whom she'd abandoned as a baby. They bought the pub from Steve and settled in but shortly after that, Karl started gambling. After that was outed, he allowed Sunita Alahan to seduce him and they had a fling. He finished it and she went back to Dev but she pushed him for more and their affair was discovered through Sunita's manipulations. Stella kicked out Karl, Dev left Sunita so Karl moved in with Sunita. Big mistake. Sunita soon realized he wasn't the man she thought she loved. Stella got on with her life and even had a fling with younger man, Jason Grimshaw. Karl thought he lost everything and after Jason did some electrical repairs to fix a short that Karl caused, Karl decided to set the pub on fire to set up Jason. Unfortunately, Stella was upstairs. Sunita saw Karl set the fire but he pushed her down the stairs and left her to burn. He later tried to rescue Stella but couldn't get them both out of the flaming building. A firefighter got Stella and then Karl out but died when the roof collapsed. Sunita was brought out but was in a coma. When she started to come out of it, Karl killed her. He later terrorized young Craig Tinker who saw him come out of the pub on the night of the fire but later confessed and gave himself up.

Rob Donovan
Fact: Rob is Carla Connor's brother and has already spent time in prison for his participation in an armed robbery. He and Tracy Barlow set up a pawn shop and occasionaly dealt in stolen goods. He killed Tina McIntyre when she threatened to tell the police on him. Carla found out he was Tina's murderer just as he was going to marry Tracy. She called the police on the wedding day and Rob went on the run. He tried to talk Tracy into running away with him and she nearly did but in the end, she called the police and made a deal. They would overlook the stolen goods in exchange for Rob.

Callum Logan
Fact: Callum is the biological father of Kylie Platt's son, Max and Sarah Platt's son/daughter. He's a drug dealer and has been in prison. He decided to get custody of Max and in the process, had David roughed up and coerced Sarah's daughter Bethany into doing some drug deliveries for him. He had a gun in his flat which Max found but he was able to get rid of it before the police searched his place. He owes money to a higher up drug "boss" and was planning to skip town but blackmailed David and Kylie for cash in exchange for letting them have Max and never bothering them again. They couldn't raise the money and Sarah lured him to the house to talk to him but he lost his temper and attacked her. He nearly killed her but Kylie whacked him over the head with a wrench and killed him. His body is currently in the old drain under the annex room that Gail built, converting their garage to a room for herself. She has no idea! (January 2016)

Jamie
Fact: Jamie is Steph Britton's ex-boyfriend. He got into debt and blackmailed Steph's brother Luke into doing some illegal car racing. If Luke didn't, Jamie threatened to post some nude photos he had of Steph to the internet. Luke did race and won but later when Jamie pushed for more, Steph found out. Jamie posted the photos anyway. Luke and Steph's boyfriend, Andy Carver, caused Luke to lose his girlfriend while Steph went to the police and had him arrested. Later, when he was out on bail, Andy and Luke caused Jamie to lose his job. Jamie took revenge by staking out the Bistro where Steph works, planning to stage a robbery and scare Steph badly. But the restaurant had been closed due to a power cut and Carla Connor was the only person inside. Jamie and his mate ransacked the place but there was no money in the till so they grabbed Carla's handbag and she chased them outside, getting dragged down the road by the car door in the process. They have been arrested again.
